Speaker 1 (00:00):
Ocean Beach, speaking of breaking one hundred is about to
get his very own sitcom. This is super cool. It's
called the End of the Eight and it's about the
tight knit community. And the pilot episode is now out.
Speaker 2 (00:12):
So we talked to the creators of End of the Eight,
Daniel Dreyer and John Christine.
Speaker 3 (00:17):
Thanks again for having us. We really appreciate any sort
of publicity for this. It's kind of like John and
I's a little love letter to Ocean Beach in the
form of a silly little sitcom, just because we both
live in Ocean Beach. We have a bunch of friends
in a wide array of different groups here, from musicians
to business owners to just locals that have lived here
their entire lives, and we've kind of like learned over
(00:37):
the years of us living here that is just a
really funny, quirky spot, like you kind of mentioned, that's
get its own little unique charm, and we thought, well,
why not make a sitcom out of this? So we
started to film and write some scenes down with our buddies,
and then one thing lets the next, and it kind
of builds enough momentum that people are aware of it
now and they've been enjoying the first episode, and it's
just been a lot more than what we expected originally because.
Speaker 2 (01:00):
As a guy, say, if you've been to Ocean Beach.
Speaker 4 (01:02):
You know you'd seen like all the different array of
characters we get down here, and we got like the
crystal cellar vendors down by the grass, to the drum circle,
to the business owners have been here for fifty years,
to the people that just drove to the end of
the eight and then stop by at a bar, and
it's just like, you get such a clash of all
(01:23):
these characters, and that's where a lot of our scenes
kind of like stem from.
Speaker 3 (01:27):
Yeah, it's a love letter to Ob, but it's also
a very satirical love letter, so it's not it's endearing,
but it's also making it to make fun of it,
and yeah, trying to make fun of ourselves and not
take ourselves too seriously, just because this whole town is
just a bunch of unserious folks that have beautiful passions
and just love to be in this community.
Speaker 1 (01:44):
You know, this sitcom basically leans into the weirdness of
Ob their words and the title of the sitcom makes
most sense to locals.
Speaker 3 (01:53):
Also, at the end of the day, Like, if you
don't know what the end of the eight is, you
can kind of eventually put it together yourself just by realizing, oh,
like the eight like maybe the freeway, you know what
is at the end of the ocean, beaches at the
Oh that's maybe they're talking about. Ob Yeah, yeah, so
you can kind of put it together yourself eventually. Yeah. Yeah,
So it's got a lot of layers to it for sure.
Speaker 2 (02:13):
Okay, so far they just have the pilot and a
couple of episodes going because they're still working on crowdsourcing
and the funding.
Speaker 3 (02:20):
So ideally, what we're trying to do is kind of
rinse and repeat with the funniness and the overall feel
of it. But the dreamline it but may it faster
and make it so we can release like you know, three,
maybe four more episodes and then our biggest goal what
that would be to shop around to a streaming network
or a service to actually get this thing somewhere other
than this on YouTube.
Speaker 2 (02:39):
So yeah, right now, the pilot's on YouTube and it's
called End of the Eight. You can find more information
because they have an Instagram page that's called the End
of the Eight Official.
Speaker 5 (02:49):
Do we ever find out what the end of the
eight is or is it just well, OB is the
end of the eight. So if you get on the eight,
oh I see yeah, and you keep driving west, either
you're going to be in Ob or you're going to
be in the water.
Speaker 1 (03:05):
There is the sound of Veronica leading the horse to
water again.
Speaker 5 (03:09):
Duh.
