Speaker 3 (00:27):
He was the first and he's still the best. For
thirty years, Tom Gresham has been your trusted source on
all things ballistic, new guns, Second Amendment, Personal protection be
part of it. Called Tom Talk Gun Now, here's Tom.

Speaker 4 (00:46):
All right, let's crank this thing up. Man. We got
ten pounds to put into a five pound back today.
We got a lot of stuff to cover. I'm Tom Gresham,
I'm your host. This show is called Gun Talk because
that's pretty much all we do today for hours and
well actually the rest of the week. Two just talk
about guns and rifles and handguns and shotguns and reloading

(01:07):
and AMMO and bullets and scope said, you know, it
just goes on and on. There's no end to it.
I mean, you know, the drill right and all. I
don't really want all the guns in the world. I
just want one more, just the next one, please, if
that's okay with you. We've got so many things to
talk about today. We're going to be talking about well, reloading.
You're going to talk about rifles and how to choose

(01:28):
a bullet. What's the best bullet for your rerifle? Well,
you know, as I always say, the answer is always
the same, right, Well, the answers always it depends. We'll
get into that. Also, you could make your rifle more
shootable by choosing different loads. We'll talk about that as well.
And as far as handguns go and self defense, I
want to talk to you a bit about road rage

(01:49):
today and the whole idea of feeling like you've been
wronged or feeling like that's just not right or people
shouldn't get away with stuff can get you killed, and
you need to get your head right about this stuff.
And the time to do it is not in the
middle of an event. The time to do it is now.
We'll talk about that as well. Also, we may be

(02:14):
getting a new director of the ATF. We've been working
with interim directors for quite a while and now we
got a chance for the Trump administration to put in
a director of the ATF. He isn't going to be
any better. Well, it kind of dependient on who you
talk to. But we're starting to get some positive signs

(02:36):
and maybe it could be better. I don't know. On
the other hand, we got Pam Bondi over the Department
of Justice. Now they just filed a brief in court
supporting the National Firearms Act, supporting the regulations on suppressors
in short barel rifles and short barrerol shotgun even though

(03:02):
we got the two hundred dollars tax removed from those
and the thinking is we'll walking in without a tax.
The NFA is a tax bill, it's a tax law.
Without the tax, there's no law. The Trump Department of
Justice doesn't see it that way. So we got things
working in two different directions, some goods, some maybe not

(03:22):
so great. And of course we'll be talking about what
you're carrying, what you're doing, the things you're shooting. Here's
a question for you, leather or kaidecks. You ever get
a kaidex holes after you've warned it for a while,
screws start coming out, straps fall off at the most
end opportune times. What do we do about that? Well,

(03:46):
we'll talk about that as well. Hey, wait a minute.
We'll be right back in just a second. But I
want to tell you we're gonna be talking about rifles
and bullets and loads. But you can weigh in. You
can give us a shout eight six six talk gun
or Tom. That'll get you in here. I'm Tom Gresham.
This is gun talk.

Speaker 5 (04:18):
When it comes to carry guns. Size matters, but so
does performance. The Smith and Wesson Buddyguard two point zero
delivers both. It's slim, ergonomic, and built to handle recoil
like a champ. The upgraded slide serrations mean you can
wreck it fast, even under pressure. And that striker fired
flat face trigger, clean, crisp and repeatable. Like your favorite

great nation. So Tom, we thank you for these last

(06:43):
thirty years and we look forward to thirty more.

Speaker 4 (06:45):
Buddy, all right, welcome back. I'm Tom Grescherber's Gun Talk.
If you want to join us eight six' six Talk
gun Or Tom. Talkgun same not br just different ways
of remembering. It you, know of, Course i'm a. HANDLOARDER
i have been handloded probably SINCE i was about fourteen
thirteen maybe ACTUALLY i was an indentured. SERVE i didn't

(07:06):
know what was going, on but my dad had me
loading his traploads for him so he could go shoot
trap AND i was stuck in the corner and MAKING
ammo back. There i've learned a lot in the. Process
we're joined right now by one of our, Friends Gavin
gear From Ultimate. Reloader ultimatereloader Dot com had lots of videos. Online,
Gavin you've been up to so many. THINGS i, mean

(07:28):
you're not just doing reloading. Anymore you're testing different kind of,
gear you, know scopes and really everything that has to
do with, shooting aren't.

Speaker 7 (07:36):
You.

Speaker 10 (07:37):
Yeah, Absolutely and we're also building rifles and showing people
some of that machining know how and whatnot on the.
Channel so, basically we build THE, ammo we build the,
guns and then we shoot them at near and far.
Range it's a lot of.

Speaker 4 (07:49):
Fun how in the world did you get? Start what's
your background that made you want to do?

Speaker 10 (07:54):
This, well you, Know i've always been in the fixing
things and, wrenching AND i got to make antical engineering,
degree and you, know not long after getting my centerfire
rifle fired, UP i, thought you, know what IF i
built one of these? Things you, KNOW i can load the?
Ammo what IF i actually built the? Gun and that
consession has just never stopped since that.

Speaker 4 (08:14):
Point it's one of those things that if you don't
get into, it you don't understand that there's no end
to this rabbit. Hole it goes on and on.

Speaker 10 (08:24):
Forever absolutely so many, cartridges so many, rifles so many,
scenarios you, know from hunting to target. Shooting it is
definitely a lifelong. Adventure and THAT'S i think. QUIET i
don't Think i'll ever get bored of.

Speaker 4 (08:37):
It, now you don't people want to started doing the
show that people, say how can you talk about guns
for an? HOUR i, said you're A Kevin you talk
about guns for twelve hours a.

Speaker 10 (08:45):
Day you, know absolutely all.

Speaker 4 (08:49):
Right question for. You i'm looking at share your website
over at The ultimate reloader dot com and you got
an article on the arcs reloading the. Arcs talk to
me about. That what's the? Deal what ARE arc? Cartridge
explain that to.

Speaker 10 (09:00):
People, Yeah, horny these advanced rifle cartridge. Concept you, know
these these cartridges are optimized for THE ar, Fifteen so
there are two point two six zero cartridge overall. Length
they'll fit in THE ar fifteen mag and they're really
all about taking performance to the next. Level you. Know
the twenty TWO arc takes something like what would normally

(09:24):
be a two to two three ballistics package and it
really extends. That you, know you can shoot eighty grain
bullets in that general. Range and you, know we've we've
actually taken two of these, cartridges the twenty TWO arc
and the SIX arc to the bolt action. Platform we've
done building on. Them AND i don't know, why but
the twenty TWO arc and a bolt to action rifle

(09:45):
has become one of my absolute, favorites not only to
shoot but to teach people long range shooting, with because
it's so easy to see your, trace to see your
impacts and your. Misses and you, know we've we've had
four out of four hits on a target at thirty,
ninety so the performance is definitely. There, yeah and obviously

(10:05):
on THE ar, side very similar performance depending on YOUR
ar and it just packs a lot more ballistics punch
into those familiar.

Speaker 4 (10:15):
Platforms you, know you just kind of sideway stepped into
a place WHERE i wanted to go. Anyway you said
it's easy to see the, arc it's easy to see your,
hits but you didn't say. Why and the why is less,
recoil right.

Speaker 10 (10:30):
Absolutely you know a lot of guys, think, oh, WELL
i can handle the, recoil my shoulders just, Fine and
that's really not what it's about at. All if you
go to A prs, match for, instance you learn real
quick the less the rifle, moves the more you can.
See and seeing is absolutely. Everything when you see that
tiny dirt splash off the right hand corner of the
target and you have your, radical you, know with your,

(10:54):
subtensions and you can see you were one mile to the,
right you're gonna get on target with the next. Shot
if you can't see what's happening on, target it's a,
guess right because you're you're gonna you're going to miss
that that VISUAL q and and it's anybody's guess at that.
Point you know.

Speaker 4 (11:14):
You don't know what. HAPPENED i love that old phrase
is to hit is, history to miss is. Mystery you're,
going you, KNOW i don't know where you. Going anybody
see where we're. At you're A but if you see
it in the, scope you, Go, OKAY i. Hit you
know whatever it is six inches to the right or
one dot to the, right you move it. Over fire,
Again good to, go move on to the next. Thing
but there's another thing, here and that's WHAT i want

(11:35):
to talk about with the idea of because people, say,
well IF i, RELOAD i can make more ACCURATE. Ammo
possibly probably if you get good at. It but one
of the THINGS i think people MISS a big BENEFIT
i don't think people really take advantage of it is
the ability to load with less. Recoil not necessarily we're

(11:56):
going to go hunting with a less recoiler or a lower,
velocity although you, can but just they are easier to,
shoot and it makes you a better shot when you're
not sweating. Recoil and, yeah you're. Right everybody said recoil
doesn't bother. Me liar bothers, everybody.

Speaker 10 (12:13):
Right, yeah there's the time to have fun with the
guys shooting a FIFTY bmg or a five Hundred smiths
and mess And, magnum you.

Speaker 4 (12:19):
Know, yeah that's.

Speaker 10 (12:20):
Fun but when the bear is charging you and you
need to get shots between the, eyes that's a whole different.
PICTURE a you better, practice and the recoils is a
the greater of, accuracy whether it be a handgun or a,
rifle you, know and.

Speaker 4 (12:36):
Just for, practice if you SAY i want to go
out and shoot one hundred rounds through my ex rifle
whatever it, is BECAUSE i want to get better at. It,
well if it's a not six and it's you, know
our seven mag that's beating you, up that's one. Thing
but if you can take that and load it down
and make your odd six kick like a thirty thirty
or your seven mags shoot you, know like a seven
oh eight or even less than, that you could just

(12:57):
shoot more and work on your game.

Speaker 10 (12:59):
Better, yeah and what if you have a six FIVE
prc that you enjoy, shooting and you've got a fourteen
year old daughter that wants to take a, deer you
can load it down to a six y five creed more,
right and not have to buy another. Rifle hopefully she
has the appropriate lenk of poll and can get her
arm around, it, probably, so you. Know And hodgden actually

(13:22):
on their website if you go to Their Reloading Data,
center they have three different sections for center fire. Rifle
they have standard, loads they've got reduced, loads which we
just did a complete story, on so you can Get
hodgden validated data for reduced loads for quite a.

Speaker 4 (13:40):
Few of the.

Speaker 10 (13:40):
Platforms and then they've also got. Subsonic so that was
kind of related to the OTHER arc cartridge that it didn't,
mention which is three thirty EIGHT, arc which will send
a three hundred and seven grain projectile subsonic and do
some things that are harder to do with a three
hundred blackout. Right so the arcs is a very interesting.
Family twenty TWO, arc SIX arc very, similar three thirty

(14:04):
EIGHT arc whole different, deal you, know but they all
have the same case, room, Right so.

Speaker 4 (14:12):
Interesting all, Right so people ask you to, say, well
what bullet SHOULD i? Use what's the process you go
through to, say all, right let's talk about either the
type or the, style or the size or the weight
or how did you use the rifle?

Speaker 10 (14:25):
Bullet, well there's so many things to think. About one
of the first things to think is what are my.
Goals If i've got a three hundred, blackout WHICH i just,
mentioned AND i want to just go and have, Fun
i'm probably looking for something economical to. Shoot you, know
these two hundred grain class bullets can be really really
expensive if you go to the jacketed, variety for. Instance

(14:48):
but if you grab something like a berries plated bullet
two hundred and twenty grain three hundred blackout, bullet you,
know you could be cutting your your bullet costs in
half approximately and get results that are going to be just. Fine,
now if you're out for precision long, range now we're
in a whole different category of thought, process you, know

(15:09):
regardless of it's for you, know subsonic clinking or hunting
or long, range one of the first things you need
to think about is will the bullets? Stabilize what twist
rate DO i have in my? Rifle IF i have
a seven rep mag it's going to be slower. Twist
IF i haven't one of those new seven prcs with

(15:30):
one in eight, twists for, EXAMPLE i can go with a,
longer HIGHER bc bullet and know That i'm going to
get you, know good. Performance for, instance if it's a
three hundred, blackout you, KNOW i want to make sure
that that bullet is in comfortable, stability not, marginal but you, know.
Comfortable and that was one of the MISTAKES i made early.

(15:50):
ON i had a twenty two two fifty AND i
pushed some really, long HIGH bc twenty two coup projectiles
and they were you, know key holding on the target
and also the, accuracy AND i very early on, learned,
oh this thing has a really slow twister. Rate this
is for light. Bullets this is for you, know exploding
prairie dogs and.

Speaker 4 (16:10):
Stuff SO i did the same. THING i, mean we
had a two three and old or two two, three
AND i got some of the seventy grain bullets and
shooting them out of. It and at twenty five yards
we've got bullets going sideway is it in the? Paper
and going, okay this is not going to.

Speaker 10 (16:26):
Work yeah. Yeah so you, know hopefully people can listen
to this and. Learn, okay Well i'm going to learn
my twist. Rate and you, know when we build a,
rifle we engrave it right on the side of the.
Barrel we do the, cartridge the barrel, length and the twist.
Rate you might have to go and do a little
research if you have a common factory rifle where they

(16:46):
don't put that information, on but it's not hard to.
Find and so you, know once you've thought about your,
goal AM i AM i? Plinking or AM i doing something?
Serious serious hunting or serious? Target When i've determined what
my totrait is AND i know a bullet of a
secure length and weight is going to. Stabilize now we
want to get a little bit more. Specific so let's

(17:09):
move over to hunting for a. Second we are spoiled
with hunting bullets in this day and. Age you've got
all sorts of great match bullets that can be used for.
HUNTING i know that's highly, controversial but a lot of
people do, it and we've done ballistics gel testing And
i'm a believer that you can do that if you. Want,
well you don't have to, either because bullet makers Like

(17:32):
sierra just came out with the match KING x THE.
Mkx it's a match bullet and it's a hunting. Bullet
so if you have a six to five Creed more
you want to shoot it one thousand, yards go for.
It if you have that same sixty five creed more
and you want to take a deer to one hundred,
yards go for. It but within, HUNTING i think of

(17:52):
it a couple few different. Ways first, off if you're
in a state Like california where you're mandated to use
a solid copper projectile that free, state right, now you're
down a kind of a different rabbit.

Speaker 4 (18:04):
Trail.

Speaker 10 (18:05):
Right solid copper bullets need more. Velocity they're lighter for
the same, volume they're going to go, faster which is
great because they need that velocity to. Expand, Right you
got to worry about pressure when you're loading copper projectiles
Because i'll stop.

Speaker 4 (18:23):
Rsure, yeah let's make sure people. Understand that's a great.
Point you cannot just start swapping out bullet types and
dippleleet brands for the same load. Data because if you
go from a hot load with your old cup and
core bullet and go to a solid copper, bullet your
pressures are almost certainly going to go. Up you cannot

(18:43):
indiscriminately swap out.

Speaker 10 (18:44):
Components, absolutely and you might need to adjust your seating.
Depth sometimes copper projectiles really like maybe a couple hundred
thousands of an inch to get going before they slam
into the. Rifling and, no.

Speaker 4 (19:01):
Go, ahead go, Ahead. TOM i know that you're the
ultimate reloader. Guy you always talk about, reloading but we're
talking about bullets. Here and the amazing thing is for
those who are, saying BUT i don't, reload you, know
these days you don't have to reload to get access
to a lot of really great. Bullets there are so
many from the major manufacturers OF. Ammo but also you
got some smaller outfits MAKING ammo.

Speaker 10 (19:23):
Today oh, yeah, yeah, Absolutely and you know some of
those same considerations will apply if it's FACTORY ammo still
has to, stabilize, right, yeah and you won't have the
ability to find. Tune but you, know there are so
many different things that you can do without LOADING. Ammo you,

(19:43):
know trying a different muzzle, device using a, tuner, uh
trying different different types OF. Ammo you, know sometimes swapping
out components will will help with with. Accuracy we see
that on the reloading, side even with the same lineup
of BULLET a tip bullets From, hornby for, instance ones
with the machine aluminum tip on. THEM i was shooting

(20:06):
six to five Cred. More it did not like the
one fifty, threes but it really liked the one thirty
five's and it was dramatic the difference between. Them it
just happened to be my rifle likes this particular, bullet
So i'll swap out bullet. Skews sometimes it's a really
easy reloading hack to see IF i can get into
a good, load or you could take the time and

(20:27):
work up your powder, charge work up your seating depth
and all. That so sometimes bullet preference for me has
to do with which one will shoot.

Speaker 4 (20:35):
Better you, know you, Know and there's no end to
how geeky you can get into this, stuff which because
it leads me back to if people want to follow
you and look at your videos and everything, else what's
the best way to do.

Speaker 10 (20:45):
That go to YouTube and Search Ultimate, reloader or like you,
said go To ultimate reloader dot com and check us out.

Speaker 4 (20:53):
There all, right so you're building, rifles you're making, ammo
you're testing optics and everything. Else lots of information you're
providing a great. Service. GAVIN i appreciate what you do
AND i enjoy having. Here.

Speaker 10 (21:05):
WELL i feel the same way about you. Guys congrats
on Thirty Tom, oh thank you, sir AND.

Speaker 4 (21:10):
I know that you've been down to arrange. Ready that's
quite the, place isn't.

Speaker 10 (21:14):
It, YEP a great group of.

Speaker 4 (21:16):
Guys it Is Gavin gear From Ultimate. Reloader thank, you.

Speaker 10 (21:19):
SIR i appreciate it all, Right Calculator, tom you take.

Speaker 4 (21:23):
Care you. Know the thing, is you don't have to
be a reloader to take advantage of all this. Information
but once you really start tinkering with, it you may,
say you, KNOW i THINK i might want to try,
that and it becomes you can, tell just as our
conversation goes, on it becomes its own hobby in and of.
Itself now you get to tweak and play with. Stuff

(21:44):
you know what it also forces you to. Do forces
is an interesting. Word it makes you go out and shoot,
more because the only way to know if these, loads
these changes you're making are going to work is to
get out and. Shoot the more you, shoot the better you.
Get the more you, shoot the more discerning come about
what accuracy level is, acceptable how far you can shoot.

(22:05):
Baby you, said, well you Know i've never shouted in
a thousand. Yards, well now you can if you got
the right, gear fun. Stuff all, right we're open lines.
Now question for you leather Or kaidex for your. Holster
you ever had A kaidex holster kind of start coming
apart on? You what do you do about? That eight
six' six? Talk Gun I'm. Tom gresham this is. Gun talking,

(22:34):
all right we're open. Lines now if there's something on,
your mind a question you want, to ask or just
a point you want to. Bring up now's THE time
i did throw out the idea.

Speaker 7 (22:43):
Talk.

Speaker 4 (22:44):
ABOUT holsters i was thinking about everyday, carry holsters can steal,
carry holsters but actually commeding. GUN holster i have had
a number of times Actually a kaidex holster, come apart
or parts of it, come apart where screws because, you
know the straps are off and putting them with screws
or they've got different kinds of adjustments and screws, come loose,

(23:06):
screws come. You KNOW and i mentioned that OVER on
x you can follow me. Over there i'm at gun
talk and several, people, say YEAH when i Get a,
kitex holster with the screws and things in IT because
i take it APART and i put blue lock tight
on the screws and then put it all. BACK together,
I okay i could argue that you shouldn't have to,

(23:31):
do that But maybe i'm looking at. It wrong maybe that's,
just normal and that's kind of what, You Do like Mountain,
the scope you put block tight, on SCREWS and i,
don't know there's just something about having to take apart
your holster and put lock tight on the screws keeping from,

(23:53):
coming loose and then putting it all. Back TOGETHER but i.
Get IT but I mean i have been carried a
gun and had a strap come off and the holsters,
starts slipping and the gun, starts slipping and you're out.
In public, You're, going holy this is. Not good And
now i'm trying to clamp my arm and my elbow
down on a pistol that's trying to, slide down and

(24:15):
just just it's a. Bad situation you could make the
argument that most, leather holsters the ones that have just
a slot or a tunnel and slot where you put the,
belt through there's no snaps to. Worry about there's, no
straps to. Worry about it just fits together and if it's,

(24:36):
well made it'll last fifty years and no maintenance is,
NECESSARY generally i, don't know doubt a lot of people, can,
SAY well i wouldn't go. In leather that's. Old fashioned,
Yeah yeah why is it? Old fashion why does some
of the old guys have been carrying for fifty years?
Like them could it be because?

Speaker 11 (24:55):
They?

Speaker 4 (24:56):
Work MAYBE and i. GET it i have, both KINDS
and i Think probably kaydex holsters are faster if you're
trying to get that last one hundred thousands on a
draw and you're timing yourself at. The range nobody. YOU
know i don't know that that's gonna be all that

(25:16):
important in, A, gunfight mike. WHO knows i. Don't know
just think about. It, here so on the topic of
carrying a gun, For protection i'm seeing a lot of
stories about road, rage incidents and people are getting shot

(25:39):
at road, rage incidents and sometimes it's the people, are
involved and sometimes it's bystanders or people in, the car
or eleven year old is just killed in the back of.
A car let's talk about this for. A second first,
of all let me make. This point this is just
me being your father figure shaking my finger. At you

(26:06):
if you're the person who drives and people are flipping
you off all the time because of the way, you
drive you're. The problem if you're driving fast and cutting
in in front of people because you're such a, good
driver you know you're. The problem you're causing. The problem

(26:27):
so just file that one away for. A, second now
let's just assume that's not, the case that you're not
the one who's causing. The problem and, trust me if
you're flipping, off, people boy how to hear you? The
problem you, should, never, ever ever ever ever. Do that
why he? Deserved? It, yeah right what if he kills
you or your wife or your child because you felt

(26:51):
entitled and you are mad at, This guy you're gonna.
Show him you're gonna flip. Him off you know there
are people who will kill you. For that was it? Worth?
It well they shouldn't, do, That right, oh, yeah okay wouldn't?
You know. They shouldn't. They, couldn't yeah if you're flipping,

(27:12):
people off you need a real attitude. Adjustment here, all
right let's talk about a road raids incident where you're not,
the problem but somebody cut, you off or they blocked you.
Or whatever rules of. The road you can't get shot
if you're. Not there let's examine that a. Little bit
you can't get shot if you're. Not there WHAT do

(27:38):
i mean? By that don't, be there. Don't stop he,
pulls over he's gonna make a big deal. Of it
and you got mad because you know he got in
your space and you're right and. He's Wrong and i'm
going to show him except he's going to come out
with a crowbar and beat you, to death or he's
going to come out with a gun and. Shoot you?

(27:59):
How about and this IS where i talk about you
have to. Decide now i'm not in the middle, of
it because if you've gotten yourself into the middle of
it and you don't have your, attitude right there's an
excellent chance you're going to make a. Bad decision but
if you make the, decision now it's. Already made you
don't have to think. About it you know what. To

(28:19):
do you've already made. That decision here's how it goes.
For me guy flips. Me off i'm gonna, slow down let.
Him go i'm gonna slow down to where you just go. On,
Ahead man we're not gonna get into. A race i'm
not gonna. Race you i'm not gonna. Tailgates you i'm
not gonna break. Check you i'm not gonna do any
of that. Stupid stuff i'm gonna slow down and let.

(28:41):
You go but if you've wos to pull, a head
wants to stop ahead, of me wants to, Block me
i'm gonna drive. Around it i'm. Gonna go, Of course
i'm gonna call ninety one one report what's. Going on
driving around is a really. Good idea if you don't
have the opportunity to drive around some'ny gets out with,

(29:01):
a gun drive right over the top. Of, them yeah
EXACTLY what. I said if they get out of their
car and come at you and they've got a gun in,
their hand drive right over the top of them and
don't stop and call nine, one one tell them, what
happened and drive off a mile and pull over and say,

(29:22):
All right i'm. RIGHT here i didn't leave the scene of.
THE accident i just left the seat. Of word someone's
trying to. KILL me i don't know what the, situation
IS but i wasn't gonna let them. Shoot Me and
i'm calling this in what you don't do ever is
get out of. Your car yeah but, he, no, no, no, no

(29:44):
no There's, no yeah but don't get out of. Your
car keep the, doors locked don't roll down. The, window
hello keep the, shields up don't roll down, the window
don't get out of. The car but what if he
comes up to the side of, My car, drive away for. Heaven's,
sakes now if you have, your gun and if he's

(30:09):
trying to break out the window to, get you and
you have no option of driving where you're blocked front
and back because you know you can't put it in
reverse and. Back up if he's blocked you on in,
the front, back up go. Around him but if you
have no other choice, to do what you. Gotta do
but Of what i'm saying is that you can, be

(30:31):
right completely in, the right and still. Be dead you
could be completely in the right and other people get
hurt because you wanted to make a point. OR something i.
Don't know i'm not sure what, Happens There but i'm
just telling you from a safety general, safety standpoint there

(30:53):
are some people who, are. Disturbed upset you don't know
what's going on. Their lives maybe he's, been arrested forty,
two times and his, attitude is, You know i'm just
not gonna take it from, Anybody anymore and you just
have to be the one you got on his. Last
nerve you don't know what the situation is with. That

(31:15):
person the best way to avoid the problem is to not.
Be there don't start at the, first place don't be
the one that, instigates it don't be the one that.
Exacerbates it. Just don't and if that requires a serious
adjustment in the way you go about, your life and
your attitude adjustment, is necessary then do what you got.
To do because just because you're right doesn't mean you don't.

(31:39):
Get hurt just because you have a legally carried gun
doesn't mean you don't. Get hurt not being there is
the best way for you to not. Get HURT so
i throw all that out because a lot of people
talk about road. RAGE today i got. My gun i'm gonna. Do. This,
yeah Really As steve, farreadi says when they're dealing with
professionals to carry guns all, the time you have to

(32:00):
go to. Your gun you. Have failed you have failed
to see, The problem you've failed to avoid, the problem
you failed to disengage from the problem you fail several
times if you got to go to Your gun foods

Speaker 4 (34:37):
Oh boy here's a question that we get every once,
in a while but. NOT really often i think. It's
worth exploring jimmy's with Us, Not. A Dallas, texas hey
jimmy you, got the question throw, it. Out there Sir, Oh.

Speaker 7 (34:49):
Hey tom hey. So real quick i'd like to throw
out another. Option for holsters, you have leather but also
you have pressed leather fits exactly the style. Gun, you
have now if you have any modifications that may not
work out, well for you but a press leather holster works.
Pretty well anyway, as, my question so to break in

(35:13):
or not to break in? A HUNTING rifle so i
Have A a brigara b fourteen And years ago brigara
said you can or you don't have to break, in
a barrel but nowadays they, kind of say you got to.
Break it in what are your? Thoughts on that what's
the consensus on breaking in a? Long range?

Speaker 4 (35:29):
Rifle all right so there in. Lies the question you
kind of touched on it at. The very end what's?
The goal here because if you're gonna be shooting near
one hundred yards it. Just doesn't matter but if you
want to, shoot long range if you, want ultimate accuracy
there might with, emphasis on might be an advantage to
doing a. Break in process and for those who are

(35:49):
saying what are, You, talking about tom basically breaking in
a rifle barrels when you, first get it got, at
the range, clean the barrel then you shoot around or
two and then you, clean the barrel and then you
shoot around or two and you clean the barrel, and
oh yeah, by the way people on a bolt action
rifle clean it from the rear and use a board
guide so that you're sliding the cleaning rod into a

(36:13):
plastic boar guide before it goes into the barrel, to
protect it because otherwise you could be damaging the throat.
Of the barrel and you probably do that for fifteen
or twenty rounds and you're. Pretty much. Done. It's over
now is there an? Advantage to it, maybe maybe not
but there's really no disadvantage as long as you're using

(36:34):
a board guide and not damaging the barrel when. You Clean, it.

Speaker 7 (36:39):
Thanks. Tom appreciate, that all.

Speaker 4 (36:41):
Right good deal thank. YOU for call i appreciate that.
He makes you, by the. Way pressed leather when you
buy good leather holsters from some of these really good,
companies out there they're all going to be formed. Around
your gun they have molds for all. The different guns,
And you say i'm going to have a a clock
nineteen or a nineteen, eleven commander size they have, molds

(37:04):
for that and they have people who are molding and
pressing the leather around the mold so that when the
gun goes in it is an exact fit as. It
should be, and oh yeah if you're getting, a leather
holster make sure that the opening at the top of
the holster almost certainly will have a metal band, inside

(37:26):
the leather or at least an additional strip of leather that.
Keeps that Open you cannot you should not have a
leather holster where the top closes after you take. The
gun out you must be able to reholster. With one hand,
the problem is if you get one, of these holsters

(37:47):
and there are a lot of, them out there, cheaper
leather holsters when you take, the gun out it. Collapses and,
polls you know now you can't get the. Gun back
in so what. Do you do people reach over with
their other hand and hold open the leather holster with their.
Thumb and forefinger then they go to holster the gun

(38:08):
and the muzzle sweeps right across the top of their hand.
Every single time you must be able to reholster, with
one hand no matter what kind of. Holster you have
so just. Food for thought but if you buy good
leather holsters and, they're more expensive they're generally more Expensive than.

(38:29):
The kaidex holster there's a lot of. Handwork in them
there's a lot of. Craftsmanship in it it's also one
of the reasons that people who make leather holsters have
trouble finding people to work because a lot of people
don't want to apprentice for a while to learn how to.
Make good, leather but man when you get, a good
one and there are number of, companies that do and
then we'll talk about that and sometimes it's. AN amazing

(38:52):
thing a. Good quality holster the OLDEST leather HOLSTER i
have i bought in, nineteen seventy six and right now
today it's just as IT is today. I bought it
that's what buying quality. Does, for you hey there's a
new rifle just got Accepted By The. Special operations. Command
so calm we were talking about that in just. A few.

(39:12):
Minutes you, Know of course i'm kind of a, stickler
for safety and it probably comes from all the DIFFERENT dangerous.
THINGS i do i don't consider it, to be, dangerous

(39:32):
but yeah. THEY'RE higher risks. I get that i do
a lot. OF active stuff i have, friends to say
we don't find an airplane isn't any more dangerous than. Driving,
the car, well that's ridiculous of. Course, it is statistically
it's probably more like. Riding a motorcycle and then new
motorcycle riders Know exactly what. I'm talking about, you do
it you know there's, a higher risk but you do

(39:54):
it because you. LIKE doing it I get that i
FLY airplanes because i. Like doing it, NOT only that
a fly planes right through the middle of the mountains
and down canyons and land next to rivers and do.
Stuff like that at, THE same time i believe in trying,
to mitigate risk, measure the risk try to figure out

(40:14):
there's A way that i can, make this. BETTER less risky.
I don't KNOW jim and i were talking before. The
show started i'm going to be making a road trip,
here next Week and already i've got the car packed.
With some STUFF and see i only have three. SURPRISE
my STUFF i thought, i had two but actually have an.
Extra small one three fire extinguishers, in my car two

(40:35):
cans of PEPPER spray, that i know a very large
first aid, kit not, one not two but three sleeping
bags with pads in case we get trapped in the
winter winter storm, as we're driving, an extra large super
duper winter COAT in case i have to get out
and do something in the middle of. A winter storm

(40:58):
it's one OF the reasons i have. A large car
i've tried with going around with. These smaller SUVs never.
Works for me. I'm always disappointed. I'M always mad i
never have enough room for, all my stuff and then
you start throwing gun cases in there. And other. Stuff
say okay it's a way of, thinking about, things, of saying?

(41:19):
Okay what if what are the things that? COULD happen
here i can't. PREPARE for everything i, can't ANTICIPATE everything
but i can anticipate some of the more likely things
and try to have a. Solution for that try to
solve it without calling somebody and hope that they come in. Time,
to help look if, your carcatches fire you can put

(41:42):
it out with. A fire extinguisher if your, carcatch is
fired you don't have, a fire extinguisher just get out
and watch it burn because nothing's going. To stop it
it's just going. To go up and it might, not
be yours it might. Be somebody else's you see a,
car on fire you run over there and you can. Put,
it out now it's not a case of trying to.
Save the cars more than likely you're trying to. SAVE

(42:04):
the people i have hanging from my rear view mirror,
a glass breaker and it's attached with a very. Lightweight
zip tie if we turn over and go, INTO the
water i can, snatch that thing break, THE zip tie
i can pop the glass and we. Can get out

(42:27):
is that? PARANOID or prepared. I don't know, ANY given
day i can argue. IT either way i don't. Think
IT'S paranoid do i? Have a fire are? You kidding
ME of course i, have a fire at, Least one
always and it's not. In the console it's on my
BELT because if i have to bail out in a

(42:50):
hurry something weird. IS going on i don't want to
have to reach find my gun in a center console or.
Some other place it had better, be on me because when,
you need it you need it more than anything. In
the world just would ask you to give some. Thought
to that We're heading, into christmas season, the holiday season,

(43:12):
gonna be traveling gonna. Be doing stuff go through. The
what ifs what if we run, off the road what
if we get caught? In the? Snowstore what? If what?
If what? If what if can't? Prepare for, It absolutely
everything but you can. TAKE some steps a basic, first
aid kit. Turn a, kit oh yeah go take that
stop to, believe class, okay all right Coming Up The,

(43:34):
special operations command so calm just accepted a new rifle
Being made in texas. Of all places we're gonna be
talking to the people who are making a, cool rifle,
that oh yeah it's, not Just Them the special operators who.
Can get it you can, get one too
