Chris started down there. That was awesome the game down there,
(02:19):
and then I did my little baseball tour Pittsburgh, Cincinnati, Cleveland, Detroit,
checked on the radio station for a few days in
Detroit on that and then spent some time with the
family in New York over the weekend. Took my great
nephews to a Mets Astros game on Sunday. That was
(02:39):
fun for them. They're sixteen and twelve baseball. No, they
just sent to hanging out with their great uncle, and
I thought that was cool.
Speaker 6 (02:49):
They were just happy to kind of have a day
out with me.
Speaker 3 (02:52):
You know what I mean.
Speaker 1 (02:52):
I don't get to see them as much because I'm
just so busy and I'm not in New York a lot.
Speaker 6 (02:57):
But it was great. We had a great time. Christopher

Speaker 6 (03:28):

sound like.
Speaker 3 (03:31):
It was a good weekend.
Speaker 4 (03:32):
All right, let's get it started. We got the Eye

Sieh DJ Alex tyser A k A Alex the Vegan.
Speaker 3 (03:47):
He won't be here all week, but we'll take whatever.
Speaker 6 (03:49):
Is so brown.
Speaker 1 (03:50):
I'm surprised he doesn't get stopped by the police every
night driving home.
Speaker 6 (03:54):
For my response from MLB bro.
Speaker 3 (03:56):
So that is that is, that's gotta be that.
Speaker 6 (04:00):
It's sad, sorry, but he's really lound.
Speaker 4 (04:03):
We got our man, Rob g the super producer is
in the house and on the ones and the two's
no on the updates, no on the social media.
Speaker 3 (04:12):
Our man e Elijah Sabunia. All right, Rob, let's get
to it. End of an era.
Speaker 4 (04:17):
Clay Thompson leaving the Golden State Warriors signing a three year,
fifty million dollars deal with the Dallas Mavericks, who obviously
just played in the NBH finals.
Speaker 3 (04:33):
They lost, but they played there.
Speaker 4 (04:36):
And rob you give us a little background because a
lot of people thought, I actually thought it'd be a
great move for the Lakers if they could get him.
Speaker 3 (04:45):
Obviously, Clay has a history with the Lakers.
Speaker 4 (04:47):
His dad, Michael Thompson, not only played there with won
a championship, was a part of the Showtime Lakers.
Speaker 6 (04:53):
He's on the radio broadcast.
Speaker 3 (04:55):
Yeah, he does a radio broadcast.
Speaker 4 (04:56):
So there were all types of reasons for the Lakers
to get this done, including.
Speaker 3 (05:02):
That they offered more money.
Speaker 4 (05:04):
Four years eighty million to five years fifty million.
Speaker 3 (05:08):
And Clay said thanks, but no thanks.
Speaker 4 (05:11):
Rob Gie, give us a little bit of background from
the reporting that's out there.
Speaker 5 (05:14):
You're spot on there, Chris. According to Bleacher Reports, Chris Haynes,
friend of the show. The Lakers after their meeting had
an offer. It was either three years or four years,
depending on what Clay preferred, averaging twenty million dollars per season,
so a maximum would have been four years eighty million dollars.
According to Chris Haynes, the terms of the deal would
have had have included a sign in trade with DiAngelo
(05:36):
Russell in order to match salaries. The problem, though, is
the Golden State Warriors had no interest in reacquiring DiAngelo Rush.
Speaker 6 (05:44):
Thank you, but no thank you, which is so.
Speaker 3 (05:46):
Late they have gotten it done some other way, So the.
Speaker 5 (05:48):
Lakers would have had to canvass the league and find
another team with cap space where they could just dump
D'Angelo Russell and include some kind of compensation. And apparently
Clay Thomas didn't want to wait that long, so he
ultimately decided to the Dallas Mavericks deal, which, according to
Adrian wolog Gerowski, a reason why he was more willing
to accept the Dallas deal quickly quickly is because of
(06:10):
the tax benefits in Dallas as opposed to what he.
Speaker 4 (06:14):
Which are significant when there's no state tax. I mean,
that might not sound like a lot to some people,
but that's a big difference, you know, when you don't
have to pay that income tax. So so he probably
did the math and it may not have been that
much of a difference, if any, to be honest. So
that would have been interesting to see what those final
numbers look like. But who knows how long he could
(06:37):
have been waiting, right D'Angel Russell. We know he picked
up his option Rob with the Lakers right eighteen million,
which is for a player of his caliber, he's worth
more than that. I mean, I'm not saying he's an
awesome player. He's fine, he's a good player, but on
the open market he is worth more money than that.
Speaker 3 (06:56):
But he opted in for a reason, Rob.
Speaker 4 (06:59):
And I believe it's because his agent had done his
homework and found that, you know what, there aren't that
many teams willing to give you this type of money,
and the teams that are good aren't willing to do
it or don't have that type of money. And so
I think he's going back to the Lakers see if
he can help them, you know, go deep or win
(07:21):
a championship and then you know, kind of even up
his value more. I'm sure that's his thinking. But that
it doesn't surprise me that a lot of teams aren't
like ready to make that trade for a guy that's
on a one year deal and has you know, it's
good but not great. And so Rob, I'm gonna just
say this, I think Klay Thompson made the right deal decision.
(07:45):
If he had gone to the Lakers for the personal
reasons that we mentioned, the emotional sentimental reasons.
Speaker 3 (07:51):
I would have been fine with it. I think he'd
be good on the Lakers.
Speaker 4 (07:55):
But I think Rob, there is certainly a part of
him that wants a tad bit of retribution against the Warriors. Right,
they paid Andrew Wiggins, they paid Draymond Green, who's obviously
had his issues, and you won't pay me, And I
get why they won't, But I'm just saying that's probably
his thinking.
Speaker 3 (08:15):
And so what's the best way to get back.
Speaker 4 (08:17):
At them is to win a championship. And he's got
a better shot with the Mavericks than he does with
the Lakers. I think he's a perfect fit there. So
I get what he was thinking. If indeed, I'm on
the money, but I think that makes sense.
Speaker 1 (08:31):
Yeah, I think it's foolish from this standpoint.
Speaker 6 (08:34):
I really do.
Speaker 1 (08:36):
When you've had a career like he's had and won
as many championships and it's anonymous. We see this happen
a lot of times. Guys go and finish their careers elsewhere,
which is fine. But it wasn't like they didn't offer
from a deal Chris which was close to what he
wound up taking. Right, Well, initially Rob he turned down
(08:56):
forty eight Yeah, two years forty eight, which is more
per year.
Speaker 4 (09:00):
So rog was there any but there was Then there
was the reporting that they really weren't.
Speaker 3 (09:05):
That that kind of was off the table. I guess
he may have won it more.
Speaker 1 (09:08):
Well, he wanted more than that, right, but he got
two million more. And it's fine if you want to
go and do that. Yeah, Now, I just don't. I
just don't think that that's if you have a chance
to play your career and where you won and you'll
always be remembered that. I don't think there's a price
you could put on that. I really do, really, yeah,
(09:29):
I really don't. I don't think because I don't think
automatically going to Dallas means he's gonna win a championship
or anything. And there's a chance that he could be
as bad as he was the last time we saw him,
when he was zero for ten from the field or not,
you know, not play that whole way. But he's on
the down side and he has to be honest about
what it is that the Warriors they had given him
(09:51):
a contract. He's been had too serious injuries, they did
give him a contract. Chris, Again, I don't think that
the Warriors have done anything wrong. He in that you
just can't be giving away money and fall in love.
Speaker 6 (10:03):
With the past.
Speaker 1 (10:04):
You can't do it because you wind up hurting your
organization long term, paying somebody who you already paid and
you already had to parade and all that. And Clay,
we love you, we want but you're not the same guy.
And it's hard for guys. They want love and affection
from somewhere else, so they'll go somewhere else. And everybody
always thinks, well, it doesn't work out there, but it'll
(10:26):
work out here.
Speaker 6 (10:28):
I get it.
Speaker 1 (10:28):
People always think that that it's gonna work out somewhere else,
and it doesn't. Always sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn't.
It would be one thing, Chris, if they say, you know,
don't let the door hit you on the way out,
then you have no choice. But I think if they
could have it their way, they would love to have
them stay and retire as a Warrior and never wear
anybody else's uniform. So I mean, it's a decision he
(10:50):
has to live with. The curious one to me is
not wanting to go to the Lakers. I mean, that's
curious to me, and I would I hear the tax
rammifications of whatever.
Speaker 6 (11:00):
But if you're really trying to.
Speaker 1 (11:03):
Make a statement or go to a team and be
in a situation, especially your dad works for the organization,
your dad has history there, you're gonna do you.
Speaker 4 (11:12):
Think he has a better chance of winning with Dallas
or the Lakers.
Speaker 6 (11:15):
I mean, now that the Lakers have Brownie, I would
say the Lakers.
Speaker 5 (11:18):
Right.
Speaker 6 (11:19):
I'm just saying. I'm just saying now.
Speaker 4 (11:23):
I disagree with your I mean because just what you
said for them, Why you know, it's not like he's
the same player.
Speaker 3 (11:31):
They can't hurt their business model.
Speaker 4 (11:33):
He gotta think about business too, And I get he's
not getting much more money. And I don't even know
that the Warriors robe might not have gone to fifty
million two years, right, it's only two million dollars difference.
A lot of times, though, you'll be willing to take
less somewhere else than where you're at because you feel
a certain way.
Speaker 6 (11:52):
You feel no doubt, you see it all the time, right.
Speaker 4 (11:54):
Right, But I think he wants to win, and you're right,
there's no guarantee. But there's not a team he could
go to in the league that would guarantee him a
championship in this era of parody in particular. But he's
in as a great situation and he is going to
be a.
Speaker 3 (12:13):
Critical player for them.
Speaker 4 (12:14):
And look, we know the last game, ohver ten, Fine,
it's a game.
Speaker 3 (12:19):
But the dude ain't that bad.
Speaker 4 (12:22):
He averaged eighteen points last year on thirty nine percent
shooting from three, So he still can play. He's not
what he used to be, certainly defensively, but he still
can play. And I just don't think, especially nowadays, Heck,
Michael Jordan didn't finish with the Bulls, you know, and
(12:42):
we don't, I mean, think about the Washington year as
much or hold it against him.
Speaker 3 (12:46):
It is what it is.
Speaker 4 (12:48):
Most players nowadays don't finish, even stars.
Speaker 3 (12:52):
With the team that they started with. I don't think
it's that big of a deal.
Speaker 1 (12:55):
But in Jordan's case, Remember they did that they could
to make him leave.
Speaker 6 (13:01):
I mean, hey, we want I want Phil Jackson back.
Speaker 1 (13:05):
First thing they did phil Jackson not coming back, you
know what I mean, like like they did everything to
try to force Michael not to be there, and that's
what wound up happening, which is fine in the Warriors case.
Speaker 2 (13:16):
I just.
Speaker 1 (13:19):
I mean, is Dallas really gonna make another run and
be in the championship? They I don't know, because there's
twenty five years, no, But the other the rest of
the league is going to be. That's one of those
run the mix. That's one of those runs that I'm
not convinced it's gonna be.
Speaker 4 (13:37):
Ain't looking that great right now. I mean it's it
is open, But they're one of those teams. I mean,
luka Dac. I think this is just what he needed.
It was what the doctor ordered. As far as his
come up ins in the finals, I think he'll come
back better. I think a keeing him Rob is Kyrie.
It can Kyrie play as well as he did last year?
Speaker 3 (13:58):
Uh? And if he does?
Speaker 4 (14:00):
And then you got Clay and I liked the other
moves they made Quinton Grimes and Naji Marshall like they
have done some good stuff.
Speaker 3 (14:08):
Nico Harrison. Credit to him the GM. But let's throw
it out to the listeners.
Speaker 4 (14:11):

Speaker 4 (15:15):
Klay Thompson out of Golden State now playing with the
Dallas Mavericks. I think it was good basketball move. Rob
thinks he should have stayed in Golden State. What say you?
Speaker 6 (15:30):
Real quick?
Speaker 1 (15:32):
James Wood a high prospect Chris for the Washington Nationals.
Is first that bat in the big leagues gets a
hit standing ovation in DC. Pretty awesome. The young brother
is a number six prospect in baseball. All right, I
was watching, so I got excited.
Speaker 6 (15:48):
Eight seven seven ninety nine on Fox. Let's do it
Marty in Kentucky. You're the couple of Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 3 (15:55):
What's up, Marty?
Speaker 9 (15:56):
What's up? It's Magic Kitty Monday.
Speaker 1 (15:58):
How you fellas doing doing great?
Speaker 9 (16:01):
What's up? Chris? Glad to have you back. Rob. I
wanted to tell you last week my nephew he worked
out at Columbia. Uh he may be playing basketball there.
Speaker 6 (16:12):
Wow?
Speaker 7 (16:13):
Ver nice.
Speaker 9 (16:13):
Yeah, they went and picked up Yankees Dodgers game after
after the workout and they come back home. But he's
in Portugal right now playing, so you know, we'll see.
Speaker 3 (16:23):
He must be pretty good.
Speaker 6 (16:24):
No, that's pretty impressible.
Speaker 9 (16:26):
He's not very tall. He's about six foot tall. I
mean I'm six five, so I mean I guess six.
It's not short ripped.
Speaker 2 (16:35):
Yeah.
Speaker 9 (16:36):
For basketball, he can shoot it and he's and he's
an excellent student. He wants to study as pro physics.
Speaker 6 (16:43):
That's awesome.
Speaker 9 (16:45):
Yeah, I'm sorry I got off the subject. I like
Clay's move for one reason. I agree with Robbed that
you want to stay at one place. But they didn't
want him, and he knows it. They really didn't want
him to side, and I think he knows it and
he wants to out improve something. He got left out
of the top one hundred if I remember correctly, top seven.
(17:06):
I felt like he got shafted. Was the top seventy five.
Speaker 3 (17:09):
CRIZ top seventy five. I agree.
Speaker 1 (17:11):
I had nothing to do with the Warriors. I had
two major injuries.
Speaker 2 (17:16):
He can ruin.
Speaker 9 (17:17):
Something away from the Warriors, away from Steph. I think
I think he can push him in that. I thought
he belonged anyway. He was an elite face face guard defender.
The only time you ever seen the guy get beat
is when the offense spread out and he got he
cheated a little too much, got beat on the back door.
But when he face guarded people, he just straight locked
him down. And he was one of the best shooters
(17:38):
in the league. He was. I mean, he was a
great player before his injuries. And I think he really
just wants to prove something. And he knows that the Warriors,
they really want to move on from him. They need
to get younger, and he went to a team that's
got young players. He needed to get somewhere with young
players that you can't have all old players.
Speaker 6 (17:56):
No doubt.
Speaker 3 (17:58):
Good pickuplor in New Jersey.
Speaker 1 (18:01):
You're in the odd couple of Fox Sports Radio. What's up,
Laurie Hi.
Speaker 10 (18:05):
I'm a first time caller, longtime listener, just excited to
be able to talk to you. I'm a Dallas I'm
now a Dallas Maverick band. I feel like that was
Golden State Warriors loss. I get the game of business
and basketball, but I feel like he was a real
dog in the game. He put everything on the floor
(18:27):
every time he tried to play. So I think he's
going to be missed, and I think I again, I am
a Dallas Mavericks band. Now I didn't I didn't ever
think I would find myself here, but here we are.
Speaker 3 (18:38):
So who's who's been your team? Your NBA team?
Speaker 7 (18:42):
I haven't had a.
Speaker 10 (18:43):
Team since Magic Showtime. I like players now because they
just moved from team to teams, so they don't have
I guess, any stability. I don't know if it's stabilities
right where, but I just don't feel like they don't
have They're not right.
Speaker 1 (19:01):
And the other thing to Laurie is as a fan,
you could see if you have a favorite player, Chris
like unlike before where you couldn't see team.
Speaker 6 (19:10):
From out of markets.
Speaker 3 (19:11):
You know what I mean.
Speaker 1 (19:12):
You can watch all the games now you could actually
see players. I think that's what makes people be able
to Lauri, thanks so much for your support.
Speaker 3 (19:20):
We appreciate you and loyal you know what I mean.
Speaker 1 (19:23):
Yeah, you don't have to because I could watch if
I if I like Klay Thompson, I could watch the
Warriors games. Where before, if you grew up in New York,
the only games you got what the Knicks game. That's
that's right, so game unless it was the weekend, you
know what I mean? The game of the week or something.
Speaker 3 (19:39):
Right, that's mean, that makes sense.
Speaker 6 (19:41):
Michael and Dallas. You're on the odd couple of Fox
Sports Rado. What's up, Michael?
Speaker 11 (19:46):
Hey, how you guys doing great show?
Speaker 6 (19:47):
You guys got thank you bank you.
Speaker 11 (19:51):
The Lakers are going to be a circus this year.
I know that this this topic is about Clay, but
him getting not going there. I think it's better off.
How how many questions times do you think is there
gonna be questioned? When is BRONI gonna play?
Speaker 7 (20:05):
Before that?
Speaker 3 (20:07):
I mean that?
Speaker 4 (20:08):
And Rob you you obviously weren't here when the Brownie
thing went down, But yeah, I look, it shouldn't even
be a question unless he's really good.
Speaker 3 (20:19):
I mean, and Lebron I don't think should push it.
Speaker 10 (20:21):
Rob.
Speaker 4 (20:22):
He should just let JJ Reddick and the coaches to
have determined when or if Brownie's going to play, or if.
Speaker 3 (20:28):
He does get involved, it will be a circus.
Speaker 4 (20:31):
And I think one of the things for Clay too
is I know Jason Kidd can coach.
Speaker 3 (20:36):
I have no idea whether or not JJ Reddick can coach.
Speaker 1 (20:39):
And speaking of Bronnie Christ in the third hour tonight,
I have some comments and thoughts and I don't think
Lebron's gonna follow me, or he'll unfollow me like.
Speaker 3 (20:49):
He follows you out.
Speaker 1 (20:50):
Okay, then there won't be no issue there, like he
unfollowed Rachel Nichols after her Uh.
Speaker 6 (20:58):
Her comments on Bronnie is that, Oh I didn't know that.
Speaker 7 (21:01):
You know that?
Speaker 1 (21:01):
Oh yeah, they were close Rachel Nichols when she had
her first CNN show.
Speaker 6 (21:06):
Yeah, Rom was the guest. Supposedly he blocked her right
after her comments.
Speaker 3 (21:10):
Oh wow, I gotta see Okay, all right, well we
got uh it's his Twitter he can Anthony. Yeah, I
know you ain't ripping anybody.
Speaker 6 (21:20):
I just said that. I just said.
Speaker 4 (21:22):

Speaker 3 (21:48):
How y'all doing doing great? We are great?
Speaker 7 (21:51):
Man?
Speaker 3 (21:51):
What what a day? End of an era.
Speaker 4 (21:53):
What is the feeling up there in uh, San Francisco
and Oakland now that Clay thoms and is gone.
Speaker 7 (22:01):
Well, the feeling in my house right now is that
you guys love talking to me. Though when that drama
pops around in the.
Speaker 6 (22:07):
Warriors, you know that, yes, it ain't just you.
Speaker 7 (22:12):
Let me tell you. How are they feeling. This has
been accepted for probably a week, I would say, and
you know, my sources were telling me on the on
the Clay side that this is a decision he's made
for a while now for several reasons. He may ask
me about some of them. I'm writing a big article
for the Athletic tomorrow that'll kind of like detail it
with more layers to it about how it actually got
(22:33):
to this point. But they know for a little.
Speaker 1 (22:35):
While now, Clay, I mean, they had offered him, what
was it, two years, forty eight million. Uh, he was
offended by that, but takes fifty million to go to
Dallas for three years? Does this probably got hurt or something?
I mean he felt like they didn't want to pay him.
Speaker 7 (22:52):
The timing of that is relevant here. That was in
the preseason. He's coming off leading the NBA and you know,
made the season prior they were better, they made the playoffs.
His market that was considered, you know, relatively team friendly
at the time. He obviously had a worst year of
his market. The market in general was just colder to
veteran free agents. I think this time around, and that
(23:14):
two for forty eight has not been on the table
for a long time. It's not like he turned that
down from the Warriors a week ago or two weeks ago.
They didn't make him any type of offer.
Speaker 4 (23:22):
Part, so there was no offer, like because I saw
your tweet I think it was last week at some
point where you said there's no offer on the table.
So are you saying from the end of this season
they weren't offering him a contract?
Speaker 7 (23:35):
They weren't even neithers I was really even talking that much,
to be honest. You know, you always, especially as somebody
who's around and all these figures, you kind of felt
some important conversations. What happened to bring a reunion together?
You almost didn't fully believe that it would go this way.
But yeah, I mean, part of why there's no offers
because the words have been trying all these various things,
(23:56):
you know, trying to get Paul George. They're kind of
sniffing around Lori Marketing right now. They're they're trying to
cut salary. They had to deal with the Chris Paul
guarantee your non guarantee on the thirty million, and they
basically told Clay, hey, you know, we'll get to you
when you get when we get to you. And that's
part of the you know issue here is it's like
if you went to your boss and kept asking, hey,
can we talk about that race? Hey, can we talk
about that raise? They kept going We'll do it later,
(24:16):
and Clay essentially recently decided we won't get to it
because I'm not gonna be here.
Speaker 6 (24:21):
So why did he not go to the Lakers?
Speaker 7 (24:23):
Is he is?
Speaker 1 (24:23):
He got a bugaboo with them? His dad works for
the Lakers, dad has a history there. Well, does he
want to play with Lebron or is it strictly sales
tax or state income state income tax?
Speaker 7 (24:35):
Yeah, you know, I don't. I don't know that. There's
like one final reason why he did or didn't go
to the Lakers. He certainly thought about it. He was
deciding at the end between the Lakers and Mavericks, and
honestly a team like the seventy six ers or even
the Magic probably could have gone him if they just said, hey,
there's like five years or one hundred, you know whatever million.
But when he was deciding between the Mavericks and Lakers,
(24:58):
I think how close Dallas Fields compared to the Lakers. Right,
Dallas is just in the finals. The Lakers don't seem
as close. And then and this is just me more
psycho analyzing. I'm not saying I've heard this, but I
do think part of where things just went sour for
him over the last couple of years around the Warriors,
it's just a fish boulder in the constant criticism, the
(25:18):
headlines after everything. Uh, you guys on the radio, right,
if anything, Clay Tomas, would you say that, Well, I
just think that he's at a point of his career.
He was unhappy last year. You know, it was just
not that it was a grumpy season for several reasons.
But I do think part of this decision to get
this is me more psychoanalyzing than telling you for sure this.
(25:39):
I just think getting away from the spotlight has a
little bit of an appeal. You know, if he's in
La with Lebron, his dad doing radio. Like y'all are
still talking about him every day. There's probably gonna be
a little less of that in doubt.
Speaker 4 (25:49):
Let me ask you, of of course, Steph and Draymond,
how do you think they are reacting to this news.
Speaker 7 (25:56):
Well, look, they've they've been in on the like you know,
the Paul George Shay they were, I should say, that's
obviously over at this point. They're in communication, particularly Steph
with the front office.
Speaker 6 (26:06):
So it's that Steph pop champagne after Clay said he
was leaving. That's not true.
Speaker 7 (26:10):
No, no, And again, I'll have a little bit more
detail about this in my story tomorrow, So I don't
want to, like, you know, necessarily spoil it, you know,
I like, I think it was voiced that it's over,
you know, and like not because of Steph certainly, and
and Steph I think, you know, may have gone to
(26:31):
the bat harder if Klay wanted him to, but just
seemed too too far gone.
Speaker 3 (26:36):
How close were.
Speaker 4 (26:37):
The three of them, you know, they were the they
were the big three of the of the dynasty.
Speaker 7 (26:42):
Uh yeah, I mean, like, you know, I think there's
a deep, deep level of respect and admiration within the
three They wouldn't necessarily, especially in the later years as
they all, you know, Draymond had several kids and a wife,
Steph obviously just had his fourth kid. Like there's several uh,
like their lives is gone in different directions. Clay, you know,
he's a boter, Like they don't necessarily hang out all
(27:02):
the time off the court, but I mean, they know
how deeply connected they are from a historic standpoint, right,
And I think there is even if they felt the inevitability,
and even felt it during times last season when it
was kind of going haywire, I think there's probably a
level of sadness that, you know, as it sinks in.
Speaker 1 (27:20):
Well, was there any chance that if Clay understood where
he fit in the constraints with money and said, Okay,
I made a ton of money here, I won a
lot with these guys, it would be great to play
my whole career and go out with those guys. Was
there any of that, like some sentimental feeling that it's
(27:40):
not like the fifty million is going to change his
life financially, but it could have been a nice way
to go in together, you know what I mean, and
go out gracefully together.
Speaker 7 (27:50):
I mean, that would have been the pull to go back,
but you know, he opted for different reasons to kind
of uproot his life a little bit. It felt like
he needed to. And again you can go back to
the injuries. I think this is a pivot point of
his career. He's twenty nine years old. He's really the
best player. In Game six of the Finals, he has
thirty points in the third quarter and he tears the
acl and then he tears Achilles. Misses two and a
half seasons and really spent the last couple of seasons
(28:12):
trying to chase his former self, and there was anguish
within that. I think anybody even watching from the outside
could see that. So I just think it's a little
bit of a search for something different.
Speaker 4 (28:21):
You mentioned Lowry Mark, and then I man, I love
the fit with Golden State. If they can get him,
how realistic do you think the chances are of them
landing him.
Speaker 7 (28:33):
Yeah, they're in the chase. They're in the chase for sure.
You know that's that's probably a better question for Danny Inge.
But I don't go public right now and say exactly
what I'll get it done. But he seems to be
the fish where depending on who you talk to in
the league, Like, how realistically is he available? It's hard
to know with Danny Inge, but that is certainly on
the the Warriors radar.
Speaker 4 (28:53):
What do you think it would I mean, I know
you don't know exactly, but you know, I mean Kaminga
who I know they want to keep. But would he
have to be in some type of deal like that.
I'm sure they'll give up Wiggins if they would take you.
Speaker 7 (29:07):
Yeah, I mean, that's all what's kind of being sorted through.
I think probably what appeals most to the Jazz would
be the picks package coming from the Warriors, especially because
if you get a Warriors pick later in this decade
when Steph Curry might be gone, that could be a
very valuable pick. So that's probably more what you thought
might be looking for. If they hit the rebuild button,
if you're trading Lorie marketing, you're hitting a pretty big
(29:28):
rebuilts go here. So.
Speaker 1 (29:31):
Jason Dumas, a buddy of mine from ninety five to
seven The Game, said on the radio today that behind
the scenes, Clay was equally as exhausting as Draymond, and
that Clay made the locker room uncomfortable. Was there an
experience as well there when you were around the team,
was that how you saw it?
Speaker 7 (29:52):
I mean, like again, Clay didn't get suspended, Clay didn't
do several things that I think probably have more of
a of an impact on and uh, you know where
the last two seasons went, which were obviously disappointing from
the warrior side, he you know, kind of grappled with
his career mortality the last few seasons and had grumbling
moments and uh, certainly wasn't wasn't the easiest at times.
(30:16):
But I'm not gonna go as far as to kind
of back that statement up.
Speaker 1 (30:21):
I guess so well, he didn't make things uncomfortable as
I was just saying he did not at times.
Speaker 7 (30:25):
I mean certainly, look he got he got benched in
February and kind of you know, blew up a little
bit about it. You know, there were several other moments
where shot selection really the last two years has been
you know, really kind of a point of contention because
you know, his thirst to be Klay Thompson's though, right,
like twenty seven year old Klay Thompson, and they've had
to have like shot selection conversations with him a lot.
(30:46):
If you go back to his rehabs. They did not
like how he the ACL rehab finished up because he
was away from the facility when he tore his achilles,
you know, which has been put out there and Clay's
acknowledged he screwed that up. But you know that led
to that second, you know, and a happy also miss
So there's a lot of layers to it.
Speaker 4 (31:03):
Last thing before you go, Anthony, there was a report
that the Warriors could have gotten Zach Levine for Chris
Paul or Andrew Wiggins. That to me, that would make
sense that they want Levine, especially if you're just getting
rid of Chris Paul's contract. So what do your what
do your what are your uh, what's your reporting on that?
(31:25):
Telling you is that that doesn't seem to make sense
to me, But what's your report?
Speaker 7 (31:30):
I mean, I don't know these like exacts like how
close that necessarily was, but from what I've been told,
it's I mean, Chris Paul is getting way regardless is
non guaranteed. So you almost in the equation you could
take Chris Paul's contract out of it. From a Warrior's perspective,
you would really be talking about Andrew Wiggins making three
years and eighty four million, h or Zach Levien making
three years and one hundred and thirty eight million. And
(31:52):
I mean the Warriors calculation there is like Wiggins is
still a better deal. They're saying they're the same age,
twenty nine years old. They're obviously different players. Wiggins a
better defender, Levin a better score. Uh Wig. But you know,
I know he's had his he had a bad year.
Speaker 4 (32:05):
Yeah, you think he'll bounce back in because he's he
had played really well with the Warriors except.
Speaker 6 (32:09):
For last year.
Speaker 7 (32:11):
Yeah, agreed, But you know he played seventy one game
last year. Zach Levine played twenty five. Because Zach Levine
comes with his own injury issues and that. So I
just think they've just looked value at value at the
contract and decided Wiggans is still better value.
Speaker 3 (32:23):
All right. That's Anthony Slater of the Athletics.
Speaker 4 (32:26):
So you got an article coming out tomorrow about this,
so make sure you check it out.
Speaker 6 (32:31):
Make sure as that's forty dollars a month, No, it's
only a dollar.
Speaker 7 (32:36):
That's great, Yes, yes, appreciate that, definitely right out for it.
Speaker 3 (32:40):
Great stuff, man, keep up the great.
Speaker 7 (32:42):
Work, all right, els all.
Speaker 4 (32:44):
Right, mora our couple come in your way, Rob, one

Speaker 3 (33:27):

Speaker 2 (33:31):
Shekel City the home base for Rob Parkers Daily Dix
against the Spread.
Speaker 1 (33:41):
All right, Chris, you saw light night in uh Major
League Baseball travel day after the weekend series. Only three
games tonight one complete Astros one, Washington up to nothing
against the Mets in the fourth inning. And tonight, Chris,
I'm gonna take the Brewers minus one and a half
(34:01):
runs at the Rockies in Denver. So the Brewers minus
one and a half at the Rockies tonight. That's coming
up momentarily. And remember I'm not telling you who to
bet on. I'm telling you who I bet on and Chris.
I brought up James Wood from the Nationals. So he
(34:22):
got a second at bat, you know, face to lefty
the first time, got a hit the first time. I know,
there's got to be a big relief to get a
hit your first time up in the big leagues. Struck
out the second time. He's six foot seven and from Rockville, Maryland, Chris,
so imagine playing for your hometown team. He was a
part of the one Soto trade, so they got something,
(34:43):
you know what I mean, like when they trade him,
to be able to get a guy who's actually made
it to the big leagues, because.
Speaker 4 (34:50):
You know, it's not a guarantee that trying to make it.
It'd be nice if he can turn out to be
a really.
Speaker 6 (34:55):
Good, good player. Yeah, he's a top prospect, So we'll see.
Speaker 4 (35:00):
Rob. I don't know how closely you were following, obviously
you were at the baseball games with the free agent
moves in the NBA. But man, Oklahoma City has had
to me a great offseason. We know they were the
number one seed in the West this year. We know
(35:20):
that they were the youngest team ever to get to
the second round of the playoffs or to win a
playoff series.
Speaker 3 (35:28):
And now Josh Giddy, who really didn't do much for him.
Speaker 4 (35:31):
He's a pretty decent player, but he wasn't doing anything
for them in the playoffs. They trade him for Alex Caruso.
They already had a great defense, and now you add
one of the best perimeter defenders in the game who
also can shoot the three. And they got Isaiah Hartenstein
from the Knicks three year, eighty seven million dollar deal
(35:54):
for him. Now he'll be He's been a journeyman and
had a great or for him, his best year ever
under Tom Thibodeaux. It'll be interesting to see if he
can translate that, you know, somewhere else because you know,
Tibbs has helped a lot of players and they might
not play as well elsewhere.
Speaker 3 (36:14):
But I think it's a good pick up.
Speaker 4 (36:16):
He's a legit seven footer, plays near the basket, good defensively.
Speaker 3 (36:23):
And you still got check Holger.
Speaker 4 (36:25):
So one of their problems rob this year was their
rebounded and their lack of size. And now you add
a seven footer to go next to home Grin, who
can we know can play on the perimeter and you
add Alex Caruso. So I think my only question about them,
and you know we were talking earlier about the Mavericks.
I mean, the West is open, so I'm not about
(36:46):
to make a prediction right now, but I like them
a lot, and my only question will be their youth.
Speaker 3 (36:55):
You know, they're still young.
Speaker 4 (36:56):
Even though they took some lumps in the second round
against Dallas, They're still very young.
Speaker 3 (37:00):
But I love their off season.
Speaker 1 (37:04):
Yeah, I mean, especially Chris, when you answer some of
the things that that you were looking to answer as
you just talked about height. You know when you're right
and when you when you can add those players you
hope too. It's not automatic that you have a shopping
list and those guys are available and within your budget.
Speaker 2 (37:24):
So I'm with you.
Speaker 1 (37:25):
I mean it's hard to look and not think that
they didn't improve. Does that mean they're going to make
it to the Western Conference finals? No, but they did
answer some questions.
Speaker 4 (37:36):
Yeah, and you know s g a rob Shake, Gilgess
Alexander we talked about him finished second in the MVP voting.
Speaker 3 (37:44):
I mean he could he could win an MVP.
Speaker 4 (37:47):
They had a lot of MVPs go through there, you know,
I mean for a team you know that that hasn't
been there that long. Obviously they came from Seattle. But
Durant won an MVP, Westbrook won an MVP. There, hardened
one in MVP. Not there with OKC, but he won
one in Houston. And now you've got SGA. I gotta
(38:08):
give Sam Presty some credit. They have not yet brought
home the goal so to speak. They have no ring,
but Sam Presty does a tremendous job and so they.
Speaker 6 (38:19):
Just gotta win though. You know, like he's at that
point now, Chris, where you're right.
Speaker 1 (38:24):
He has done that right, put together some teams, drafted people,
he's got, He's got a great resume, No, I should
say that he has a very good resume.
Speaker 6 (38:34):
Greatness comes with winning. So he needs to win.
Speaker 4 (38:37):
Yeah, and he's building something there right now. So we
will see if it continues. All right, We got two
hours left of the odd couple, Mark Stein joining us
next hour. You won't want to miss that, and then
in the third hour Funky Cole Mark Medina.
Speaker 3 (38:54):
So keep it locked, Ah couple
