Speaker 1 (01:59):
Jared Smith, Fox Sports Radio host Countdown to kickoff Saturday's

Uh and uh Matt Verddam right. He is an NFL
staff writer with Sports Illustrated. He'll join us shown in
the third hour. So we have a lot to do

(02:20):
so little time. So let's bring in the odd couple
crew because we wouldn't be able to do this fine
radio program without him. Facts, ma'am, we got we got
everybody here today. Shay is our producer. Yo, I haven't
seen I haven't seen, uh, Bill, I know I got

(02:45):
the name wrong. I haven't seen you in like three months.

Speaker 3 (02:48):
Hit me up, mighty, Mark.

Speaker 1 (02:50):
Mighty, All right, Mark, I haven't seen you in months.
My god, you're back.

Speaker 6 (02:55):
Uh.

Speaker 1 (02:56):
Mark is our engineer, filling in for everybody. He's on
vacation except Steve de Sager, who of course is here.
Steve de Sager, me and of course Elijah. So Mark
is the engineer, Shaye is the producer.

Speaker 3 (03:10):
Uh.

Speaker 1 (03:12):
Steve de Sager's at the update desk, and Elijah's doing
social media.

Speaker 4 (03:15):
It's kind of like the Olympic team.

Speaker 5 (03:17):
You know, Steve's the lebron James of the group, and
you got some new faces, the Jason Tatum Anthony Edwards
of the world, you know, in Mark and and Shae.

Speaker 1 (03:25):
I mean, I'm literally I'm not working with Mark in
about six months. Mark, have you been hoting? You're doing
other shows? You don't love us anymore?

Speaker 3 (03:35):
Working other shows? All the above? All right, you have,
I haven't seen you in months. I can't believe it's
been a while.

Speaker 7 (03:43):
Well I watched some of the internet stuff, so I've
seen you, but you haven't seen that.

Speaker 3 (03:47):
There you go, all right, but we got Mark.

Speaker 1 (03:49):
He'll be uh here with us throughout all right, Uh,
let's do this to Sean King, who of course played
in the NFL.

Speaker 7 (03:56):
Uh.

Speaker 1 (03:57):
Everybody knows what the quarterback with the Tampa Bay Bucks,
that team that just couldn't get over the hump. I'm
not trying to rub it. And I'm just saying, you
got to.

Speaker 4 (04:04):
Film a championship. I don't know what you're referring to.

Speaker 3 (04:06):
You guys were really good.

Speaker 4 (04:08):
Yeah, we want a championship.

Speaker 1 (04:09):
Yeah, I'm just saying you should have wanted where Tony
Dungee is all I'm saying.

Speaker 4 (04:13):
I agree.

Speaker 5 (04:14):
I truly if the Buccaneers organization had taken a Pittsburgh
Steelers approach and show patients with Tony, I think the
team would have more than two Super Bowl titles.

Speaker 4 (04:28):
I truly believe that.

Speaker 1 (04:29):
Yeah, it was definitely one of those things. I just
kept thinking that they were gonna win and it just
didn't happen. And before we get into our topic, I
do want to say we should condolences and love and prayers.
Phil Donahue passed away, who was a television icon used
to rule daytime television. When you think about the studio

(04:50):
audiences and hot topics that people were talking about. Back
in the day it was Phil Donahue. Everybody came after him.
He started off with a show and dy Ohio and
it became a national show and been big. And then
Oprah Winfrey and everybody else, you know what I mean,
followed that show and became even bigger than Phil was.

(05:13):
But Phil wasn't was an iconic figure. And Marlo Thomas's.

Speaker 4 (05:19):
Rip to the Donahue family.

Speaker 5 (05:20):
No sounds like every week somebody big icon of your
adolescents or early years is passing away.

Speaker 3 (05:28):
It's crazy.

Speaker 1 (05:29):
But you know what, there are a lot of big
celebrities who are up there in age.

Speaker 3 (05:33):
He was eighty eight. I mean, it just happens. All right,
let's kick off with football.

Speaker 1 (05:37):
And we know the preseason games all weekend long, and
Sean I get it.

Speaker 3 (05:45):
And you know this. People are wrong in sports all
the time about people.

Speaker 1 (05:51):
Oh they can't do this, they're not good enough, this,
that the other thing.

Speaker 3 (05:57):
You know what happens a lot.

Speaker 1 (05:58):
Okay, it's not like everybody who's who's drafted high. Everybody says, oh, yeah,
he's gonna be a star in their star or he's
going to be a bus and he's a bus. It's
it's not like that. It's all over the map. But
Tua comes out and shade, shade, Do we have sound
of No, it's just words. Do we have sound?

Speaker 4 (06:22):
We got we got sound?

Speaker 1 (06:23):
Okay, let let's let's hear this. Okay, Sean, Okay, we'll
get to that. But he just basically criticizes Brian Flores, who,
if I remember correctly, Sean didn't want to didn't want
to draft him. So it's always a tough spot when
you're a coach and you draft somebody that you don't
really want at that time. I can't remember who it

(06:45):
was he wanted, but I don't believe it was Tua.
And so Tua was on the Dan Lebratard Show and basically, quote,
to put it in the simplest quote, if you woke
up every day and I told you, told you that

(07:06):
you sucked at what you did and that you don't
belong doing what you do, and that you shouldn't be here,
that this guy should be here, and that you haven't
earned this right, and then you have somebody else come
in and tell you, dude, you're you're the best fit
for this, You are accurate, you are the best whatever

(07:30):
you are this Okay, do we have the sound? All right,
let's let's hear from from two himself.

Speaker 4 (07:37):
All right?

Speaker 8 (07:39):
To put it in simplest terms, if you woke up
every morning and I told you you sucked at what
you did, that you don't belong doing what you do,
that you shouldn't be here, that this guy should be here,
that you haven't earned this right, and then you have

(07:59):
somebody else come in and tell you, dude, you are
the best fit for this, like you are accurate, you
are the best whatever you are, this you are that,
Like how would it make you feel listening to one
or the other? You see what I'm saying, and then
you hear it. You hear it regardless of what it is,
the good or the bad, and you hear it more

(08:20):
and more. You start to actually believe that, I don't
care who you are, you can be the president of
the United States. You have a terrible person that's telling
you things that you don't want to hear or that
you probably shouldn't be hearing. You're gonna talk to believe
that about yourself.

Speaker 1 (08:36):
Sean, here's my problem and what he's saying. I get
it positive reinforcement negative. We get that if you tell
a little kid that they could do whatever they want
to do in life or whatever. You probably got a
good shot that that kid's going to believe it, or
you know, and have a chance to do something. Or
if you tell a little kid every day that they're
dumb and stupid and that'll never amounts to anything, probably

(08:58):
not gonna work out either. Okay, So I get that.
My only issue is why why even bring that up?
He got the contents, He played great last year, he
stayed healthy, he got the contract Brian Flores.

Speaker 3 (09:13):
Is that really where you want to go?

Speaker 4 (09:15):
Like?

Speaker 1 (09:15):
Why he's not even a head coach anymore? I think
he won by default, right, he got the big contract
for the Dolphins. He's still there. He's their franchise quarterback.
Brian Flores is in Pittsburgh as an assistant coach and
the end of story and probably will never get another
head coaching job. Do you really need Sean to say anything?
I guess that's my only issue, not not not the

(09:37):
context of it.

Speaker 5 (09:38):
Well, Rob, it enhances what I still believe. And this
is in spite of Tua getting the four year I
told you you're going to.

Speaker 3 (09:45):
Get his cotch track you were in. They believe I'm.

Speaker 5 (09:47):
Happy for him, but Tua is seeking comfort in this situation.
He's not in alpha male. Blan Flora has got the
Miami Dolphin job after spending ten years. One of the
his alphas we've ever seen named Tom Brady. Not a
great skillful athlete. Nobody thinks that Brady throws the best football,
or has the most arm talent, or is even an

(10:09):
average athlete. But his combination of football IQ, calmness when
everything is chaotic, and his ability to lead and be
an alpha created a lot of success. Blind Flores got
to Miami, and never forget this. Joe Burrow was the
first picking to his draft, but Justin Herbert was taken
directly after Tour, and Jordan Love was taken at the

(10:30):
end of that first round, and Jalen Hurts was taken
early in the second round. I challenge people right now
to tell me one NFL team not named the Miami
Dolphins that.

Speaker 4 (10:39):
Would take Tour over Herbert or Jordan Love.

Speaker 3 (10:43):
What has Herbert done?

Speaker 4 (10:45):
He's just his ceiling is just how I get it.

Speaker 3 (10:47):
But did you see what he did last year?

Speaker 1 (10:50):
Last year he had a lot of bad fourth quarter interceptions.
He took a step back and I understand you like
what he looks like, you like the arm, but the
results were good. You gotta admit that when you would
you acknowledge that he didn't play well last year.

Speaker 4 (11:06):
I think Herbert has a lot to prove in this league.

Speaker 5 (11:08):
What I'm saying is, if I'm gonna hitch my wagon,
my career, my legacy to one of these guys, the
ceiling is so much higher with those other guys. I
don't think you can win championships with a tour at quarterback.

Speaker 1 (11:23):
You can't say, but a lot of guys have won
quarter bad quarterback.

Speaker 4 (11:28):
With the leadership with an i Q of Drew Brees with.

Speaker 3 (11:32):
The Tampa with Tampa one, Baltimore one. Without star quarterbacks.

Speaker 5 (11:38):
Tampa had Pro bowlers on the defense, four Hall of
famers to do with the quarterback. Brad Johnson's better than Brad. No,
he's not stop it stop it's not. This is how
t is. If you go back and listening to audio,
listen Tua said, what if somebody came in the room
and told you shouldn't be here, you don't belong here,

(11:58):
you're not good enough. What would you think then when
he went to the good side, rob The only thing
he could say was what if somebody else came in
here said you were accurate? And then he went dot
dot because he can't even come up with something else
that he does at an elite level. His ball location
is the only he had.

Speaker 1 (12:15):
He had a good hass. He had a very good year.
You cannot show.

Speaker 5 (12:19):
Twenty nine touchdowns and fourteen picks. That year is so overblown.
He was in the top five and like every category. Okay,
he threw twenty nine touchdowns fourteen.

Speaker 1 (12:30):
He also put up a seventy piece and we're not
talking about McNuggets.

Speaker 3 (12:34):
He put up a seventy piece in the NFL.

Speaker 4 (12:36):
Seawan Peyton still should be fired and.

Speaker 3 (12:38):
We haven't seen that. Okay, now that alone, buddy.

Speaker 1 (12:41):
You know, for a socio quarterback to put up seventy
sean you played in the league, you ain't see nobody
put up no seventy points in no NFL game.

Speaker 5 (12:50):
Come on, man, that was rough. I'll say this man, listen,
I'm not anti tour. All I'm saying is I understood
Brian Flores's position. If you're going to take a quarterback
at five, I would have went with the upside play.
And when you look at to his career, he's always
a guy that seems to be seeking love. Mike McDaniels
really the first time he's ever founded ROB When he

(13:12):
got to Alabama, he had to back up Jalen Hurts.
When he eventually took over for Jalen Hurts, they had
Matt Jones in behind him, so when he got hurt,
Matt Jones came in and played at a high level.
He's looking at him for love. He founded at McDaniel
Hopefully it works for him. I don't think it will.

Speaker 1 (13:26):
We'll see this will be something. But they had no shot.
They had twenty some of our quarterback since Dan Marino left.
What what choice did they have other than to go
with the guy who stayed healthy all year, put up
top five numbers in almost every category.

Speaker 3 (13:40):
And if you're the Dolphins, what was your alternative? It's
easy to say.

Speaker 4 (13:45):
You don't even believe what you're saying.

Speaker 3 (13:46):
Yes I do.

Speaker 4 (13:47):
It's heed a too guy. You don't believe.

Speaker 1 (13:48):
It's easy to just say, get somebody else. There is
nobody else. That's the problem. Eight seven seven ninety nine
on Fox eight seven seven nine nine six sixty three
sixty nine. I get what he's talking about. I just
don't think it was necessary to air that out. You
got the contract, you're the starting quarterback and the franchise
quarterback of the Dolphins. Brian Flores is out, will probably

(14:10):
never get another head coaching job.

Speaker 4 (14:12):
You won.

Speaker 3 (14:13):
You don't have to say it. You don't have to
tell them.

Speaker 4 (14:14):
Eyth By the way, Joss McDaniels got multiple shots Brian Flora.

Speaker 1 (14:18):
Should I'm just saying, after the lawsuit with the against
the NFL, you think you'll get another hedge coaching job.
I'm just asking no, Okay, that's my that's my reason.
Not because he can't coach. I just don't believe once
you bring litigation against the league that they're gonna hire you.
I don't all right, we want to hear from you.
What do you think about to its comments? Were they necessary? Unnecessary?

(14:41):
I just think they're unnecessary. He's already won. No reason
to step on Brian Flores at this time. You got
the bag, you got the contract, you got the starting
franchise quarterback situation.

Speaker 3 (14:55):
You're good, all right.

Speaker 1 (14:56):

(16:37):
sixty nine eight seven seven ninety nine.

Speaker 3 (16:39):
On Fox.

Speaker 1 (16:40):
We're talking about Tua who went after his former coach
Brian Flores. Was it necessary or was it a fair game?
We want to hear from you, Sean. I know people
want to jump in absolutely.

Speaker 5 (16:52):
I mean it's an interesting conversation. I mean I'm just
sick of to it, trying to play the victim. Hey,
dra from Michigan. You're on the odd couple? What you
got for us?

Speaker 10 (17:00):
What's going on?

Speaker 6 (17:01):
Rob?

Speaker 3 (17:02):
What out?

Speaker 4 (17:03):
Not much?

Speaker 11 (17:04):
Shine?

Speaker 1 (17:04):
Man?

Speaker 11 (17:04):
You're more of my favorite team back in the day
of the Buccaneers.

Speaker 3 (17:07):
Man, I appreciate that, Yes, no doubt.

Speaker 12 (17:10):
No doubt, Hey, but knock out something to streamer.

Speaker 11 (17:13):
Not only was it unnecessary, but it was premature.

Speaker 5 (17:16):
Dude.

Speaker 13 (17:16):
You had one good year that you too, that you
can be healthy.

Speaker 11 (17:19):
The on reason why you got no contract because it
just happened to line up like that. My thing is,
you know, you know, we've seen a lot of good
quarterbacks come I mean quarterbacks come through and have one
good year. It's not like he made multiple Pro Bowls,
AFC Championship. He hasn't even proved he can win in
cold weather games.

Speaker 1 (17:34):
And you know what, like that conversation if you wanted
to after winning the Super Bowl and you just you
know what I mean, like if it was heartfelt. Man,
I remember when people just didn't believe in me, and
you know what I mean, and you did one of
those I'm with you.

Speaker 3 (17:48):
This is just unnecessary.

Speaker 4 (17:51):
Thanks all right, Andre from Massachusetts. You're on the odd couple.
What you got?

Speaker 6 (17:57):
How you doing that?

Speaker 10 (17:57):
Thanks for taking the call.

Speaker 6 (17:58):
Listen to other Lowe. He's down there in Miami, in
the state of Florida where Tom Brady went ahead and
won a Super Bowl, So he should take some advice.
Tom Brady said, well done is better than well said.
What is the need to be taking shots at this
particular point in time? And at Brian Flores, who's in
another organization, who's moved on who's doing his thing after

(18:19):
you signed the contract, while you're going into a pivotal
year in your development as a quarterback in this league.
Bottom line is this. The AFC is absolutely loaded, and
where are the Miami Dolphins going to fare? Not just
in the AFC East, which has improved, but the AFC
writ large for the healthy Joe Burrow coming back with
a Justin Herbert who actually has the true general to
lead him to it. You got your work cut out

(18:41):
for you. What the heck are you digging up old
grievances for going you know, you know, having this little
pity party when you're going into a pizzolt year. Because
if the fact of the matter is this, at the
end of the day, if he regresses in this year
under Mike McDaniel's leadership and all these other quarterbacks take
a step forward, Ryan Flordes is gonna have to say
nothing because the avalanche of criticism coming down on tour

(19:02):
is going to be overwhelming and he would have done
it to himself.

Speaker 10 (19:06):
No need for this, no doubt.

Speaker 1 (19:09):
Thanks Dre and my man Miami Mando, who's down there,
who's a big Dolphins fan. He said, definitely fair game.
He tweeted this at me. Definitely fair game by Tua.

Speaker 3 (19:20):
What up? Rob Parker and the odd Couple? All right, man?

Speaker 4 (19:23):
Fair game? Did you tell your buddy down in Miami?
Stop it?

Speaker 5 (19:28):
Two us up there crying the river seeking comfort? He
just got the bag. He should be focused on trying
to Actually, I agree something in the playoffs, right, don't
worry about what happened before eight seven, seven ninety nine
on Fox. Back to the phone line shown from Sacramento.
You're on the odd couple? What you got?

Speaker 10 (19:45):
Yeah? My uncle from another mother and the only other
shot I like hearing on these their while hang it today?

Speaker 3 (19:52):
What's up? Shorn from Sacramento?

Speaker 10 (19:56):
Real quick, Rob, I know you ain't helping this man
cryer river it I'm not.

Speaker 1 (20:01):
I said, I said no, I said, I don't understand
why he would go there.

Speaker 3 (20:05):
I'm not on the side.

Speaker 10 (20:06):
Yeah, okay, I appreciate that man, because I ain't.

Speaker 6 (20:09):
No way.

Speaker 10 (20:10):
Is it Brian Flora's fault that to of them know
how to fall down for two years and kept getting
his head busted every single year? Is that his fault?
Is it Flora's fault that he saw better up and
coming quarterbacks and his GM went ahead and selected the
one guy that was going to be injury from this
whole year. Robin is like six years ago if the
boss of the FSR said, do you want to get

(20:30):
with Chris Brussard or do you want to get with
just and Whitlock and they formed Jason anyway.

Speaker 1 (20:35):
Man, Man, I tell you what thing I would not
I would have not.

Speaker 3 (20:40):
Been on that show. I'll tell you that. I guarantee
you that.

Speaker 10 (20:46):
How much better y'all off for it? Man? Six years
later and y'all still running these other ways? Man, But
yeah too, any of the focus on his game and
stop focusing on guys that he may see in the future.
It's a small league. Keep it professional, shut your mouth
and do work.

Speaker 3 (20:59):
There you go on, Thank you, appreciate.

Speaker 1 (21:01):
Let's squeeze another one and if we can show on
eight seven, seven ninety nine on Fox, Michael.

Speaker 5 (21:06):
From North carolina' on the odd couple. What you got
big Dalkin?

Speaker 10 (21:09):
What's going on?

Speaker 14 (21:09):
Gentlemen?

Speaker 3 (21:10):
How are you?

Speaker 13 (21:12):
Rob?

Speaker 12 (21:12):
I'm doing great.

Speaker 14 (21:13):
I'm a big fan of yours.

Speaker 6 (21:14):
You know.

Speaker 13 (21:14):
I always call in once a week.

Speaker 3 (21:16):
Appreciate you, you know.

Speaker 14 (21:19):
Yeah, So, regarding the tow A situation, do I think
it was out of bound.

Speaker 10 (21:23):
Yeah. I mean, I don't think you should.

Speaker 14 (21:24):
Have said those comments.

Speaker 10 (21:25):
Really, I mean, he won the battle.

Speaker 12 (21:27):
But I think every I'm.

Speaker 14 (21:29):
Surprised nobody said this point. I think those comments for
Brian Flores kind of indicate that he's kind of, you know,
when it comes to player relationships, he's hard to get
along with. H I mean, like, why would you tell
your quarterback you suck.

Speaker 13 (21:47):
At your job?

Speaker 14 (21:48):
Like that's not something you would want to tell.

Speaker 5 (21:50):
I'm not I'm not one hundred percent sure, Michael did.
I think that's what Flora said. I think two was
embellishing slightly to make himself like the victim.

Speaker 1 (22:01):
And you don't know, it could be tough love that dude.
You need to get better. This is not you know
what I mean?

Speaker 5 (22:06):
And no head coaches walking in the quarterback room and
say you suck.

Speaker 1 (22:11):
Right, let's squeeze one more, go ahead, go ahead, you
got last point?

Speaker 3 (22:17):
All right, Michael, Thank you appreciate it.

Speaker 5 (22:18):
Let's thanks Michael. Dwayne from Michigan. You're on the odd couple?
What you got for us?

Speaker 3 (22:21):
What's up? Dwayne?

Speaker 12 (22:23):
Hey?

Speaker 13 (22:23):
What's up? Fellas? How y'all doing this?

Speaker 4 (22:25):
Evening? Man? Great?

Speaker 1 (22:27):
Hey?

Speaker 13 (22:28):
Rob? I just wanted you to know before I make
my comment that you know us from Michigan. Man, you
a legend to us, especially when you was covering the Pistons. Man.
We appreciate your work, man, and you guys are doing
a great job. And you couldn't have found a better
replacement for Chris with Sean. I love the way Sean
played when he was playing man, and I appreciate it.

Speaker 1 (22:47):
Man.

Speaker 3 (22:47):
Thank you, Dwayne. I appreciate that. I really do. Thank you.

Speaker 13 (22:51):
Thank Yeah.

Speaker 4 (22:52):
Yeah.

Speaker 13 (22:52):
I want to comment on tour so, I mean, I
know two of them ain't playing Minnesota and that's a
good thing because why is Tour rambling off about something
that a coach said. I mean, he could have been
trying to motivate him to say, a better player. But
you gotta have thick skin. And the bottom line is,

(23:14):
you know, that's kind of like when you go on
Facebook and people instead of talking face to face, they
rather get on Facebook and spill out what they feeling.
And it's like that's kind of what I get from too,
And I'm like, man, look you in the NFL. You're
playing with the big boys, and you shouldn't be spelling off.
You take that no matter what anybody said, if people
talk trash in sports, you take that and use it

(23:37):
for motivation and silence the critics. And I think how
he went about it, that's not what grown man do,
that's not what adugs do. So I think you guys
made some critical key points and everybody else that got
on here. So he should have just kept that to himself.
Go out there and play football.

Speaker 3 (23:54):
Right, and you know what, just prove.

Speaker 13 (23:57):
Them wrong, but more importantly, prove yourself. There you go,
what I got.

Speaker 3 (24:02):
Thanks Fellers, Thanks no doubt.

Speaker 1 (24:05):
All right, Coming up next, John Morosi from MLB Networking,
of course a Fox Sports Radio MLB insider. But first
let's get you caught up by Uh. You know they
used to call Jackie Gleeson the great one. How about
Steve the Sega. Uh, he's at the anchor desk and Steve,
you heard what I said about real quick Phil Donahue.

(24:25):
He was a legendary broadcast.

Speaker 3 (24:27):
Yes, I didn't realize he'd passed, Yeah, passed today. Yeah.

Speaker 7 (24:30):
He was, like I say, kind of the original original
in our lifetime of this of the daytime talk, which
of course developed into something that people have opinions on,
whether it's Jerry Springer.

Speaker 3 (24:42):
Yeah, that's a joke, Springer, but.

Speaker 7 (24:45):
Yeah, not the nighttime Johnny Carson staff on a daytime
issue oriented not celebrity and.

Speaker 3 (24:50):
You know what, and he won up. Marlo Thomas, what.

Speaker 7 (24:52):
A who guessed it on his show?

Speaker 3 (24:54):
I fell in love, great story.

Speaker 7 (24:57):
For many many years together. Yeah, just start with the
NFL news as the Washington Commanders officially named rookie quarterback
Jaden Daniels as their starter. The franchise has a new
starting quarterback to open the season for a seventh straight year.
LA Chargers coach just a quarterback. Justin Herbert said, well
he's back, and his coach, Jim Marbo said, I thought
I heard the angels singing. Things look good now somehow,

(25:19):
because if you've seen the Charger preseason, you know the
backup quarterbacks have been unable to lead the offense to
a single touchdown so far. So Herbert resumed practicing for
the first time in a month today. He had been
on a walking boot with a foot injury. Quarterback Colt
McCoy retired after twelve seasons. Ravens tight end Mark Andrews
misspractice after a car accident last week, but his coach said,

(25:40):
don't worry. Buffalo wide receiver Marquis vowed as Scantling will
miss multiple weeks with a sprain neck and so we'll
back up quarterback Mitchell Trubisky with a knee injury. So
Buffalo is due to sign quarterback Anthony Brown. Steelers running
back Jalen Warren could miss multiple weeks with a hamstring injury.
Ohio State has four players on the AP preseason All
American Team. Tyler Reddick won NASCAR's Cup race at Michigan.

(26:03):
William Byron was second. That finished today due to weekend rain.
There to Major League Baseball Arizona and the fourth inning
leads for to one at the Marlins. However, Dback's All
Star second baseman Katel Martez on the injured list with
a sprained ankle. The Padres will be one of the
late games on FS one, hosting Minnesota at nine to
forty Eastern time. The Padres are three games back at

(26:24):
the first place Dodgers in the NL West Arizona four
back back to you.

Speaker 1 (26:30):
All right, Steve, thank you appreciate it very much. It
is the odd couple on a Magic City Monday. Rob
Parker Sean King filling in for the vacation at Chris Bussardam.
We're coming to you live from the tire rack dot
Com studios. And now let's welcome in our buddy John
Morosi from the MLB Network and of course Fox Sports
Radio MLB insider John, say hello to Sean King.

Speaker 12 (26:52):
How are you hey, Rob? And Seawan? How's everything going doing?

Speaker 4 (26:56):
Gooreat good.

Speaker 5 (26:57):
I'm a raised fans. I've been better that and recognize
a single player on the field.

Speaker 4 (27:02):
But other than that all as well, Sean.

Speaker 12 (27:05):
It is it is part of the natural circle of
life for the Rays, I would say, but but I
tell you what they have done an admirable job of
being a very consistent ball club for a long time.
And I expect, my friend, better days are ahead.

Speaker 1 (27:19):
And Sean, the greatest part down there is that is
that the Rays, with their fan base of building a
new stadium that houses nine thousand people, So you should
be full.

Speaker 12 (27:31):
It's gonna be three times that. And listen, I do
think this, and I'll make this point about the modern
ballpark construction. Not not every stadium has to be the
fifty five. I agree, I agree, and so I think
that they have put the right size on that stadium.
And I really believe. I know that there are some

(27:52):
traffic related issues still in Saint Petersburg, but I think
one thing I've heard consistently from people who live there
and really understand the market is that things did change
a bit with the pandemic in terms of where people lived,
what their habits became, in terms of wanting to live
in that area. And so I do think, and I
am an optimist, the Rays will be well supported in

(28:14):
their new ballpark.

Speaker 1 (28:15):
Well, we'll see about that. Let's go here. I'm saying
the Braves will not nt make the playoffs. My goodness, gracious,
all the injuries that they've suffered this year, and now
Austin Riley that third basement out six to eight weeks
and we only got six weeks left to the season,
so basically he's going to be out. They've had nothing

(28:35):
but injuries. Can they make the playoffs?

Speaker 12 (28:39):
You know, Rob, I am skeptical like you are about
the Braves, and listen, I don't think that any Braves fan,
I really don't think that any Braves fan will blame
the front office, blame the manager, blame any individual player
for what's happened. Sometimes, Rob and Sean it's just not
your year, and a year like this with Akunya's injury, Alb's' injury,

(29:03):
Bred has missed some time now, Riley is out, how is.

Speaker 3 (29:07):
The second was out for a while too.

Speaker 12 (29:09):
That exactly Harrison center field very good. And then you
think about Murphy really hasn't met himself either. It has
been honestly a very strong managerial job by Brian Schnitker
just to get to disposition that they're even within range
of a playoff first And similarly, you look at the

(29:29):
Mets and they've overachieved a little bit, which has been
a little bit unique to see from their standpoint. Neither
team is better than the Phillies. But I want to
give credit to my friend Jeff Passing for something he
mentioned this week about how we are on track in
Major League Baseball right now to have not a single
team zero finish with a winning percentage above six hundred,

(29:51):
and that hasn't happened in a decade. And Jeff's statistic
on that really support something I have observed during the
course of the year, which is all the good teams
have their flaws. The Yankees have their flaws. We saw
that on display again last night they lost the walk
off to the Tigers the game that I was at Williamsport.

(30:12):
The Phillies have had some stretches where there the Dodgers.
The Dodgers, my goodness. Rob the very good point about
their number of pitching injuries, So even the really good
teams are flawed, which to me says that we could
be in for a surprising get ready for your Twins
Padres World.

Speaker 3 (30:32):
Oh my, you almost off the grid.

Speaker 5 (30:35):
You almost took the words out of my mouth. Substitute
Astros who finally started to play up to their expectation lately,
I got an Astros Padres. Oh god, World Series. There's
no way I'm trusting Rocco Baldelli in the playoffs with
the way he plays around with the lineup, So he'll
do something.

Speaker 1 (30:52):
Outside the box across the Twins. Sean, I actually I'm
with you. I like the Padres. I'm going to Astros
Padres World Series. Talk me out of that.

Speaker 12 (31:01):
Well, no, Sean, let me tell you this. You make
a very good point, Sean, about where the Padres could go.
Because one thing we know about about postseason ball, what
do we always talk about the bullpen and what do
they focus on the bullpen, and look at how well
they've played since the trade deadline and even a little
before that. That is a team that, as much as

(31:22):
they underachieved last year, they're almost overachieving now. And I
think that team, Sean you're calling it, I think that's
the really clip this one off, Rob and play it
back when the Friars are the champions of the world
there and having a pread down the gas Lamb Quarter
in San Diego, because I think Sean is onto something.
And remember, I think their lineup will get a little
bit better as it gets back to full strength. Jerks

(31:44):
and PROFI has been phenomenally.

Speaker 1 (31:46):
For the tattoos is out for them. They'll get tattoos
junior back. Let me ask you one last thing, John
before we let you go. And I know that Aaron
Boone has given Clay.

Speaker 3 (31:58):
Holmes the uh, you know, the say he's there unquestioned close.

Speaker 1 (32:04):
He blew his tent save uh yesterday in that game
that you were at and williams Port. But I don't know.
I just he just doesn't seem to be able. He's
not the same picture. He gives up a lot of games.
Should they make a change, Well.

Speaker 12 (32:21):
Rob, it's a very fair question. That's an important one,
because you're right. I mean, he's he really he's a
difference in this divisional race right now.

Speaker 2 (32:29):
I mean.

Speaker 3 (32:31):
That's a lot.

Speaker 12 (32:33):
But in Serenis it's not as though it's not as
though Craig Kimberl and Baltimore has been the second coming
of roleygh Fingers either. There been some concerns there about
the Orioles bullpen too. I'll say this, I would imagine
if Aaron had a reliever that he trusted with that job,

(32:54):
he would have made a change. By now, I look
at the Yankee pant. I think Tainley might be able
to handle it. They just brought in Mark Leider Junior
at the deadline and he actually he gave up the
walk off yesterday. But again it's it's the unique structure
of the extra innings. I don't really count that against
Mark Flider. For me, I think under the circumstances, he

(33:16):
is choosing from among unappealing options. And I think that,
but I agree that maybe at this point it's gone
on long enough. What do you hit double digits and
blown saves? Rob the more than I'm thinking about this
as you ask me, I think it's probably time to
give Mark Lyder or keenly an opportunity to potentially be
the Yankees closer, because you're right, it's just not working

(33:38):
right now with Holmes.

Speaker 5 (33:39):
Right quick, before you go right quick, I think their
issue with they're not athletic enough. Only Chisel, who they
added in Vopia, any threat to steal bases. They live
and die by the home run. That's a terrible way
to go into the playoffs.

Speaker 12 (33:52):
No, you're right, Sean, and I'll make this point quickly.
I believe that teams that have success and can surprise you.

Speaker 13 (33:58):
Look at the.

Speaker 12 (33:58):
Arizona diamondback year ago and how well they run the bases.
That's why they beat the Dodgers, That's why they beat
the Philly and the Rangers had some very good athleticism
on their team last year as they won the World Series. So, Sean,
Rob great points by both of you there.

Speaker 1 (34:11):
All right, Always a pleasure, John Morosi, check them out.
MLB Network of course right here as an MLB inside
on Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 3 (34:20):

Speaker 4 (34:20):
Appreciate it.

Speaker 1 (34:21):

Commanders that have their quarterback. Sean will tell us about that,
plus a little Shekel City, that and much more. It

Express that's Expresspros dot Com. And now it's time for
the Express Pros Protoweek. The protoweek goes out to the
Detroit Tiger centerfielder Parker Medals, who had a walk off
RBI single to beat the Yankees last night at the

(35:40):
Little League Classic. That's right, so again, congratulations to Parker
medals for being our Express pros Pro of the week,
showing it is now time for Shekel City.

Speaker 2 (35:53):
Welcome to Shekel City, the home base for Rob Parker's
dally against the spread.

Speaker 3 (36:05):
All right, here we go. I'm gonna start best bet.

Speaker 1 (36:09):
I know the Padres are unbelievable so hot, but I'm
gonna take the Minnesota Twins plus one and a half
runs on the road in San Diego.

Speaker 3 (36:18):
That's my best bet.

Speaker 1 (36:19):
Minnesota plus one and a half down in that beautiful
ballpark in San Diego. I'm gonna take the San Francisco
Giants minus one and a half runs. They're hosting the
woeful Chicago White Sox. So we got the Giants minus
one and a half runs. And Seattle is in Los
Angeles taking on the Dodgers. Take Seattle plus one and

(36:41):
a half runs. So Seattle plus one and a half runs,
the Giants minus one and a half runs, and I'm
taking the Twins on the road in San Diego is
my best bet. Plus one and a half runs. And remember,
Sean King, I'm not telling you who to bet on.
I'm telling you who I bet on.

Speaker 4 (37:01):
Charlie played the Mariners money line tonight.

Speaker 3 (37:02):
Oh did you really.

Speaker 4 (37:03):
Yeah, I like the Mariners night. I think they're live dog.

Speaker 3 (37:06):
Very nice.

Speaker 1 (37:07):
I like that. All right, so I feel better about it.
You know a little something about quarterbacks in the NFL.
What did you play twenty three years in the NFL?
How many years was it?

Speaker 5 (37:15):
Yeah, Madden, I think I'm still on the game. Then
you can create your own team.

Speaker 1 (37:19):
Hey, one thing I'm gonna say real quick is and
that you didn't play that long ago.

Speaker 3 (37:24):
Okay, but can't you believe the salaries? I'm su I'm
seriously sean context.

Speaker 5 (37:29):
No, I'm serious for context in two thousand, I think
it was.

Speaker 4 (37:34):
Going into two thousand and two.

Speaker 1 (37:36):
I mean, that's still twenty almost twenty five years ago,
but go ahead.

Speaker 5 (37:39):
The Bucks signed Brad Johnson to be the starting quarterback
to replace me and gave him a five year, twenty
five million dollar deal.

Speaker 3 (37:48):
Unbelievable.

Speaker 5 (37:49):
The Raiders signed Gardner Minshew to a two year, twenty
five million dollar deal this offseason, and now he's just
starting quarterback for the Raiders.

Speaker 3 (37:56):
And that was like and that was like twenty some
years ago.

Speaker 5 (37:59):
Right, got to get into the fifty of year guys
about the Gardner Minshows of the world.

Speaker 3 (38:03):
No doubt.

Speaker 1 (38:04):
But the Commanders have named Jayden Daniels their starting quarterback.
They was a number two pick, right, I mean, this
makes sense. Nobody's waiting for these kids to develop. The
Packers are the only team to me that seems like
they've had guys sit. Aaron Rodgers said almost three right,
three years? Jordan Love said three years, you know, but

(38:24):
most teams don't operate like that. They put those guys
in right away. Will he make a difference or will
he struggle? What have you seen and what can you
tell us?

Speaker 4 (38:33):
Box office?

Speaker 3 (38:34):
Okay?

Speaker 4 (38:35):
As good as c J. Stroud.

Speaker 5 (38:38):
I don't know if the Commanders have the same level
of cohesiveness in year one that Jamiko Ryans was able
to provide CJ with the Texans.

Speaker 4 (38:49):
But Jaydon Daniels is the real deal, the real deal.

Speaker 3 (38:52):
When you say that, what does that mean?

Speaker 2 (38:54):
Like?

Speaker 3 (38:54):
Okay?

Speaker 5 (38:55):
Like he means that when I look at him, he
has the composer that rookie lack and granted a lot
of these guys coming into the league now, Michael Pennis
boltonicks they're all in their mid twenties because of COVID,
But he's composed way beyond his years. He throws accurately
from within the structure of the offense. He has elite
athletic ability, he has elite arm talent his own.

Speaker 1 (39:18):
Is that gonna equate to wins or or you can't
say that because the team?

Speaker 3 (39:23):
Do you know what I mean? Can he win you
a couple of games?

Speaker 4 (39:27):
Yes?

Speaker 5 (39:27):
I think they're headed in the right direction. The only
reason that I hesitate rob because I think the Commanders
definitely had the worst offensive line in football last year.
They only slightly improve. So until I see that group
be able to truly protect the quarterback on at least
an average level, I'm hesitant to like go with the
high ceiling from a win total standpoint. But you know

(39:48):
it when you see it, and when you watch the
Commander's play this year, you will be like, Yeah, that's
the one.

Speaker 3 (39:54):
Okay, that's gonna be interesting.

Speaker 1 (39:57):
And we're gonna talk more about quarterbacks coming up in
in our number two. And I just real quick, Caleb Williams,
were you thumbs up or thumbs down? Because there was
a lot of noise about him prior to the draft
thumbs down?

Speaker 5 (40:11):
Okay, I'm not as hound Caleb is a lot of
other people. I'll explain on the other side of the break.
But yeah, I want to hear that highlight reel. But
I don't know how many press conferences are gonna be
in with Bears w's and I'll explain.

Speaker 1 (40:24):
Okay, we're going to see that. I think they're much improved.
I think he has a real chance. They added some
pieces that I like. We'll see and we'll talk about
that in our number two. Also, Jared Smith from Fox
Sports Radio of course countdown to kickoff a sports betting guru,
so we'll get into that in the second hour as well.
And as always, it is fun to have Sean King

(40:47):
during football season. I know he knows all sports. But
we'll do much more of that stick and stay America
