all right, let's go big show.
Speaker 4 (02:04):
Let me welcome in my co host, he is Washington.
That's right. What's happening to my man's on Thursday? With
my brother feeling good?
Speaker 6 (02:13):
Uh, you know, enjoying the fact that look, today was
the last day for us who live out here in LA.
We got some big time storm coming about to act.
When the when the storm's coming, we don't know, not act.
Speaker 1 (02:22):
The only reason we got this coming is because Rob
g had planned his big birthday party for his daughter
outside and gave us the whammie you know what.
Speaker 6 (02:30):
I mean, All the times he had like every weekend
for the last six months to pick and then they
picked this one. So uh yeah, I feel bad for
my guy Rob G and the fan, but you know
they they figured out the alternative, so they're gonna be
all right.
Speaker 1 (02:44):
Yes, but you know how that is that. I always
remember the graduation from Columbia. Uh had the big graduation
outside in the courtyard. You know, They're and uptown Manhattan,
and the whole nine yards rained like kats and dogs.
Speaker 4 (03:00):
Oh terrible, And I didn't feel bad.
Speaker 1 (03:02):
I'm from New York, but I thought all these parents
were flewing from you know, Colombia is an international school.
People flew from all over the world to see their
kid graduate and couldn't take in the the the you know,
the New York Yeah, you know what I mean outdoors
and then you have to do the little private one.
Speaker 6 (03:20):
But all right, that's yeah, that's that's the part about
what living here. When people get excited and so one
weekend is raining or cold in LA, You're like, I
swear it's beautiful every other weekend, They're like.
Speaker 4 (03:30):
No doubt.
Speaker 1 (03:30):
All right, Hey, aches and pains can sneak in during
the holiday hustle and bustle. A leave can help you
forget that pain, make happy memories instead with just one
pill us right, A lead provides up to twelve hours
of body pain release so that you can keep.
Speaker 4 (03:47):
Moving used as directed.
Speaker 1 (03:50):
All right, Hey, hey Kelvin, we're just we already know
sho hal Tani was named National League MVP, and I
guess are they.
Speaker 4 (04:00):
Still milking it?
Speaker 6 (04:01):
They're milking it, brouh nothing yet, not for what I've seen.
Speaker 7 (04:06):
I'm just Atani is talking. Right now, they're talking to
col Schwarber Otani and Juan Soto, and they're showing clips
of them talking to them.
Speaker 4 (04:13):
So they haven't announced anything.
Speaker 3 (04:14):
Wo.
Speaker 4 (04:15):
The show is that long?
Speaker 3 (04:16):
Apparently listen, man, they gotta listen. Their season is over roped.
They got it.
Speaker 6 (04:20):
They're trying to NFL this thing. How can we prolong
our season and continue to make it a thing?
Speaker 1 (04:25):
I mean, but I get the suspense of it because
unlike show, Hey, you knew he was gonna win, do
you know what I mean? Like, so that's anti climatic.
There's nothing to build up there. I don't think anybody
thought that Otani was not gonna win. He wasn't unanimous, correct,
Monty Bilanos, Right? Uh, show, Hey, he wasn't a unanimous
(04:48):
last year? No this year?
Speaker 4 (04:50):
Right, They haven't said anything.
Speaker 7 (04:51):
They haven't announced it.
Speaker 4 (04:52):
No, he's been he hasn't been announced. He has not
been announced. Rob it is long.
Speaker 3 (04:56):
We might have be on here till listen, we might
have to switch on her sho.
Speaker 4 (05:00):
So why would they So they just interviewing the three of.
Speaker 7 (05:02):
Them, correct, and right now they're talking to Colle Shober.
Speaker 4 (05:05):
I thought he was okay, I thought he was already announced.
Speaker 7 (05:08):
No, they have not announced it.
Speaker 4 (05:10):
So all right, we got our time screwed up then because.
Speaker 6 (05:13):
That, Yeah, we're gonna just switch our whole thing because
that because they're gonna milk this thing like somebody here.
Speaker 4 (05:19):
Here's where I want to pivot to this.
Speaker 1 (05:21):
Just if Aaron Judge were to win, he would win
three out of four years, right, Okay, here's why I
think you can't have a one off, because you want
to spread the net. Let somebody else win. Aaron Judge
(05:41):
got more chances. Cal Raley probably will never be in
this position again. Like right, Kevin, you don't expect him
at sixty home runs next year or any other year
in his career and all that. But but if Aaron
Judge wins and it's three out of four, there are
only two other players who won three out of four.
Speaker 4 (06:01):
Hello, Barry Bonds and sho hey o Tani. You know
what I mean?
Speaker 1 (06:05):
Like that is the part of the baseball history that
you I don't think you want Aaron Judge not to
be a part of because you're giving the MVP because
you think it's somebody else should get a chance, or
it's not fair because big bad New York wins everything,
even though the Yankees haven't won a World Series since
(06:27):
Moby Dick was a guppy.
Speaker 4 (06:28):
You know what I mean. But that's the way it is.
It always plays like.
Speaker 1 (06:32):
Oh, well, you know what, why can't Seattle win for
a change. Why is it always gotta be the Yankees
or the Dodgers or whatever?
Speaker 4 (06:39):
Those are the best players. You have any problem with that?
Speaker 6 (06:43):
I mean, I think you're under selling what Kyle Riley
was able to do. I mean, Kyl Riley, I mean
you're talking about again and you know this, you've becovered
the sport for almost forty years. Baseball loves its numbers.
Baseball loves it's you know, historic to be numbers records
to hold nine and specifically for a position like a catcher,
(07:04):
for him to have the all time home runs for
a catcher, for him to do it for a switch hitter,
for him to break a franchise record. I think you're
under selling because and this is the challenge with Lamar Jackson,
this is the challenge with Lebron James, and now this
is the challenge with Aaron Judge.
Speaker 3 (07:20):
When you're this great, it's like, well, how do you
top that? And show?
Speaker 8 (07:24):
Hey?
Speaker 3 (07:24):
Otani probably hints.
Speaker 4 (07:26):
Forth if he wasn't, but Otani to keep giving it
to him.
Speaker 3 (07:29):
I just said, if he wasn't pitching, you even.
Speaker 4 (07:32):
Pitch that great? Like he wasn't, like he would rob.
Speaker 3 (07:35):
He pitched, Just start and say he pitched, all right,
what's it?
Speaker 1 (07:38):
But he also didn't have the offensive yearit he had
the year before when he did the fifty to fifty.
He also betted two eighty, not over three hundred. My
point is that for some reason somebody didn't go well.
Kyle Schwarber hit more home runs than or close to
show hey, and look at what he did with the
Philly They had the number one overall record in the
National League.
Speaker 4 (07:59):
To make a simp the case, no, and my only
point is it just shouldn't be based with that.
Speaker 1 (08:05):
Barry Bonds won seven because he deserved to win seven,
not because you want to give it to somebody else, because.
Speaker 3 (08:13):
I don't.
Speaker 6 (08:14):
I don't disagree with that statement, but I think you're
you're Why is it that they're just giving it to him?
Speaker 3 (08:19):
I think again, what he did.
Speaker 6 (08:20):
And for franchise that that was able to get into
the postseason. We you and I were on the air
when he ended it that season was home run a
couple of home runs in that game and almost cemented
it right, because it's so nip and tuck. So I
just think that it's not as number date.
Speaker 4 (08:38):
Well that's that's the only thing.
Speaker 6 (08:40):
But it is for the value, like meaning what his
position is versus Aaron Judge, right, they're completely different positions.
Speaker 3 (08:46):
Is an outfielder.
Speaker 6 (08:47):
He's a catcher, So that's where it is nipping tuck
for that position. You're not expecting a catcher to hit.
Will Smith is one of the best catchers in all
of baseball. He has clutch bowmens. He hits thirty home
run just a night.
Speaker 1 (08:58):
Wow, sixty is can I give you this? And I
was on MLB Network, So I'm cheating. I didn't do
the research they did, Okay, I'm cheating. No, No, I'm
just being honest, they did the ops right, and the
thing that was crazy, and Judges has like a two
hundred point lead, okay over cal Rawley. And here's the
(09:21):
thing that was crazy, the between Judge and Riley Raleigh.
Speaker 3 (09:27):
Right.
Speaker 4 (09:27):
If they took that same number and did two.
Speaker 1 (09:31):
Hundred points separate to the next guy from cal Raley, right,
two hundred, it would go from Kyle Raley being fourth
to the next player two hundred down would be number
forty four, Like, that's how many spaces it would be
forty spaces even though cal Raley was fourth compared to
(09:53):
Aaron Judges. First, do you see I'm trying to give
you the point that that's how big of a gap
it is when you talk about a difference between two
hundred and ops uh every category judgments ten games and
Roley has seven more home runs, not twenty seven, not
fifteen more.
Speaker 4 (10:13):
He has seven more.
Speaker 1 (10:14):
And they're trying to sell us on the idea of, oh,
well he catches to the way he frames the ball.
I've heard all kinds of stuff about he only had
one pass ball.
Speaker 4 (10:26):
Be honest, Kelvin, what have you ever heard.
Speaker 1 (10:29):
Anybody discuss how many pass balls catch?
Speaker 4 (10:32):
A halt?
Speaker 3 (10:33):
No?
Speaker 4 (10:33):
I'm just just you do it.
Speaker 6 (10:37):
Very, very very when you read write the script and
you're doing Dodgers pre and post.
Speaker 4 (10:43):
How many times did you talk about how many pass balls.
Speaker 6 (10:47):
Somebody had about games?
Speaker 3 (10:52):
And I might have said it point zero zero one time.
Speaker 1 (10:56):
But that's what they're the point, rob Okay, how many
he only had one?
Speaker 3 (11:02):
You know we do, right, you know what we do.
Speaker 6 (11:04):
And I told you this, who's better Kobe or Lebron?
We gotta start nitpicking? Right, well, who's better Tom Brady,
peyton Man. We gotta start nitpicking well Aaron Drudges and
the fifth Inning of the World Series.
Speaker 3 (11:16):
John.
Speaker 6 (11:16):
I don't know if I can trouble like this is
I'm just saying this is what we do. We start nitpicking,
or are the opposite, We start finding more little random
stats that fit our narrative for our guy in an instance.
So in this instance, for folks, it is cal Riley
And I think that again, but I do think you're
under selling. Sixty is huge, like not like wow, you
(11:39):
had a great see judge in fifty three he's a catcher.
That's the difference. Judge. Again, this is the challenge. This
is what you and I both agree Michael Jordan should
have more than what is it five MVPs.
Speaker 3 (11:55):
That's kind of crazy when you frame how great he was.
But this is the challenge with how does Myel Jordan
top Michael Jordan? You know what I mean?
Speaker 1 (12:02):
But that hasn't stopped a show. Hey, that's the that's
the only pushback. But and I think that that because
some people could have said, well, he only he didn't
pitch that much this year.
Speaker 4 (12:12):
Okay, he didn't pitch at all. Last year.
Speaker 1 (12:14):
He went from fifty stolen bases to seventeen. I don't
know what the number was, but he didn't steal basis. Okay, Uh,
he didn't have the fifty to fifty anymore. He went
from batting three ten to two eighty or two seventy eight, so.
Speaker 4 (12:27):
He dropped up thirty points.
Speaker 1 (12:29):
He went from having one hundred and thirty RBIs to
maybe I don't I don't have the numbers in front
of me, to one hundred and one. Do you know
what I mean? Like he's off thirty RBIs. I'm looking okay,
so not bad, right, I said one oh one? Right,
and he had one hundred and thirty last year? How
many stolen bases seventeen eighteen, he didn't have the fifty
Oh this is hold on, if you haven't he.
Speaker 3 (12:50):
Had, where are we at twenty twenty five?
Speaker 9 (12:52):
Yeah, I'm keep going, keep going, okay, but you know,
I'm just saying, like the numbers weren't what he had
last year. And I think and what did he bat
so I said seventeen I was eighty two?
Speaker 3 (13:06):
Yeah to eighty two batting average?
Speaker 4 (13:08):
What about last year? Three ten?
Speaker 6 (13:11):
Last year was I'm pulling it up now, uh three ten?
Speaker 4 (13:16):
Yeah, these are the numbers I'm talking about like that.
Speaker 1 (13:20):
So there were drops in his numbers where people can
make the argument that he didn't have the same kind
of year he had the year before, But that's not
going to stop him from winning.
Speaker 6 (13:29):
And that's what I said. But here's the magic thing
for talking about show. Hey, he started fourteen games, he
didn't just come in a reliever role. What was his record?
What was his elra?
Speaker 3 (13:40):
What they are I'm about to tell you e alra.
What do you think it was?
Speaker 6 (13:43):
Uh three point two two point eight seven? Okay almost so, yeah,
you got a two point eight seven.
Speaker 4 (13:51):
Well his record four and.
Speaker 3 (13:55):
Five hundred, he's only actually ended up being one in one.
Speaker 4 (13:58):
Okay, I can remember it. In the beginning, he didn't
pitch enough.
Speaker 6 (14:01):
Yeah, he was to get a couple of in and
he was worked his way up to about four. That
was it for a while, then five and six, so
one in one. But I mean, you're you're talking about again.
Fourteen games started, forty seven innings pitched, uh, and sixty
two strikeouts. I mean that that's why. That's what separated.
If it was just strictly off the bats, I would
give you that. I'll give you it'd be much closer,
right sore, Okay, ooh, this is close.
Speaker 3 (14:22):
It's close.
Speaker 6 (14:23):
But when a man can start fourteen games, that's crazy, Rob,
That's just that's just not normal, all right, mean fifty
five home run.
Speaker 1 (14:29):
Here's the other thing too, okay, eight seven, seven ninety
nine on Fox eight seven, seven nine nine six sixty
three sixty nine. Still waiting on the results. We know
show he's gonna win. We do not know what's going about.
Speaker 3 (14:41):
To they're about to be like and we're here now
with fifth grade teacher. This is his fifth grade teacher.
What was he like in fifth grade?
Speaker 1 (14:48):
You know, people gonna scream bloody murder if you don't win.
I'm serious.
Speaker 3 (14:52):
Aaron Judge is six seven. When when did he grow?
We're here now with his teacher who saw his gross
spurred Yeah.
Speaker 1 (14:58):
I remember fifth grade four.
Speaker 3 (15:02):
He's sixty one.
Speaker 4 (15:03):
He came back and all of a sudden he's wearing
high waters.
Speaker 3 (15:05):
Yeah. We're about to milk this thing for sure.
Speaker 1 (15:08):
All right, eight seven seven ninety nine on Fox, we
want to hear from you, just as we wait on
the votes to come in. Which one would shock you more?
That Judge wins or that Cal Riley wins.
Speaker 4 (15:23):
You know what I mean? Like which one?
Speaker 1 (15:25):
Because I'm telling you right now, I will be shocked
if Aaron Judge doesn't win.
Speaker 4 (15:31):
I will be shocked.
Speaker 6 (15:33):
This for me is exactly you and I sitting here
doing this for weeks and months last year.
Speaker 3 (15:37):
About the NFL quarterback. You know how I feel about
Lamar Jackson.
Speaker 6 (15:41):
But I just can always sense when this is about
to be a whatever In that case with Josh Allen.
Speaker 3 (15:45):
This is Kyle Riley, It's cal Riley.
Speaker 1 (15:48):
All right, eight seven seven ninety nine on Fox, We

I have been running this show without headphones. So I
asked Elijah's like, Elijah, do you know anybody I can
get some headphones from? He said, you know what I
got you and he brought me a brand new pair
of headphones.
Speaker 4 (17:58):
Are you serious? So now from that remote for now?
Speaker 3 (18:01):
You know who? Eli?
Speaker 4 (18:03):
Wow?
Speaker 6 (18:06):
Never forget this day November thirteen, twenty twenty five, the
day that we finally knew Elijah that's right, yes, so
wait wait wait wait, wait wait wait, we got to
back this train up a little bit. What do you
mean you just did this whole show without head phones?
Speaker 3 (18:23):
Say one more time, what do you mean you're doing
this show? Without headphones.
Speaker 4 (18:26):
I just don't. I just was running it through the speakers. Okay, sorry,
we got breaking news. Well quick, let's.
Speaker 2 (18:34):
Breaking news.
Speaker 4 (18:37):
It's a big mail.
Speaker 7 (18:38):
It is a big deal, all right. It is official.
The National League MVP is going to show. Hey o
Tani Okay, he got all thirty first unbelievable.
Speaker 4 (18:49):
I'm surprised.
Speaker 6 (18:50):
I remember they were saying, remember the players voted, they
gave it to Schwarbert.
Speaker 1 (18:55):
That's what I'm trying to tell you, Like we talked
about it with the players, like Schwarber wanted.
Speaker 4 (19:00):
With the point of players.
Speaker 1 (19:02):
Vote, Aaron Rodgers didn't win it. On the players voting,
Aaron Judge didn't win it either.
Speaker 7 (19:06):
Yeah, Kyle Schwarberg got twenty three second place votes and
a five third place votes votes. He ended in second
place with two hundred and sixty points. Will Oh Tony
got fim.
Speaker 4 (19:19):
Okay, there we.
Speaker 1 (19:19):
Go, So we got one more to wait on our WI.
We're doing that, thanks MONTSI appreciate it.
Speaker 11 (19:23):
Eight seven to seven ninety nine Off Fox, we're talking
about the AL one, which is the next one we're
waiting on. And uh, should it just go to whoever
the best player is or do you have to put
in all these other little qualifier qualifiers in order to
get an MVP.
Speaker 4 (19:40):
I don't know. Let's go to Seattle and Bob.
Speaker 1 (19:44):
You already know, Bob, you're already a couple of Fox
Sports Radio.
Speaker 4 (19:47):
What's up, Bob?
Speaker 1 (19:48):
Hey?
Speaker 12 (19:48):
How you guys doing a longside listener? First time calling?
Speaker 4 (19:51):
Thanks for calling, Bob, and we appreciate the support.
Speaker 12 (19:54):
Hey. Cool. So I just want to back on Rob
for his closed mindedness on this MVP thing. Cal rally, please, catcher,
Bro you've been covering Major League baseball for one hundred
and fifty.
Speaker 4 (20:04):
Years, thirty nine years, probably, yes, go ahead.
Speaker 12 (20:07):
I was off by a little bit. So he hit
that many home runs, that's cute.
Speaker 5 (20:11):
I know that's cool.
Speaker 12 (20:12):
But he plays catcher, dude, He's responsible for every pitch.
Aaron Rodgers only.
Speaker 4 (20:17):
Had to judge. Judge, Aaron Judge.
Speaker 12 (20:19):
I'm sorry, Aaron Judge. Yeah, you're right. Yes, So Aaron
Judge has to catch a fly ball or three or
whatever and maybe halfway throw it to the infield and
strike out two or three times and maybe get a
base hit at a home run. Cal Rally, cal rally, MVP.
There's there's no.
Speaker 4 (20:34):
Question, Okay, there it is.
Speaker 1 (20:37):
I disagree, but I'm not mad at you. You watch
col rally every day. I get it, and you would
have the affinity. You're obviously a Mariners fan, so I'm
not mad at you, and I'm not saying he shouldn't
be in a conversation.
Speaker 4 (20:50):
I just judge his numbers are a total Listen.
Speaker 12 (20:53):
That is bro so valuable, valuable to the team, value
to the team. He's responsible for every pitch of the game.
Speaker 3 (21:02):
That is your tone, Rod, Thanks for the car. I
don't like your tone.
Speaker 6 (21:05):
You over here acting like cal Riley is Like, that's
just cal blasphemous that he is. Dude, Again, I told
you when you break home run records for a position
and a catcher, switch hitters, and you're making franchise if.
Speaker 4 (21:19):
He broke Aaron Judges record. No no, no, okay, no, no, no.
Speaker 1 (21:25):
You're talking about for a catcher, since one is it
qualified for a catcher?
Speaker 3 (21:29):
What is that we do that all the time?
Speaker 6 (21:31):
Well, do this person for the best for the for
a third base, this person is the second base.
Speaker 3 (21:36):
This shortstop never hit. We do that, Oh, short stops
aren't expected.
Speaker 6 (21:39):
To hit massive amounts on parent Aaron, I know, I know,
it's so many, Alex, it is so many ars, Alex Rodriguez,
Aaron Rodgers, and then Aaron Judge is too many's Austin
Reeves too many?
Speaker 1 (21:52):
A rs d oh in Rhode Island. You're on the
couple of Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 4 (21:57):
What's up, d o?
Speaker 12 (22:00):
Hey, guys, I love the show.
Speaker 4 (22:01):
Thank you, thank you.
Speaker 8 (22:04):
Thanks calling in to talk about with Tony and what
he's doing as a you know, as.
Speaker 5 (22:10):
A batter and a pitcher.
Speaker 8 (22:12):
It's obviously super impressive.
Speaker 5 (22:13):
I safety did it ten years ago. Fifteen years ago,
it'd be a ten.
Speaker 8 (22:17):
Out of ten difficulty, but right now the rule changes.
I think it's closed like a seven out of ten,
eight out of ten. And the reason for that is
because I'm watching the games and the guy has a
walkie talkie that are telling him what pitches to pitch.
And if Kyl Radley is getting credit for his framing,
(22:38):
we're going against the Dodgers catcher credit for calling all
the pitches is show Hill toning, you know, studying all
the players and you know, taking his own pitches. And lastly,
again recently, the National League wants to the designated hitter.
Speaker 2 (22:59):
UH before that would have had to pitch and go
out and then take the field.
Speaker 8 (23:06):
Now it's a little bit less work because he doesn't.
Speaker 3 (23:10):
Have to be.
Speaker 1 (23:13):
Right right, no doubt d Thank you, my man, appreciate
that for real.
Speaker 4 (23:18):
Thank you and thanks for the support. All right, Uh
all right, coming up ahead.
Speaker 3 (23:25):
Yeah, we'll just see what happens here in live time.
Speaker 6 (23:27):
We'll see if even maybe uh manzivest around and get
it rush she's doing her update. Uh, we'll keep it
an eye on the al MVP. All right, manzi's got
what's trending?
Speaker 7 (23:37):
I legit lost what time it was, who time it was,
And so when you were talking to me, I thought
you were teasing a break as a copy.
Speaker 6 (23:46):
Oh no, no, no, haven't here girl, girl, you got
work to do.
Speaker 2 (23:50):
No.
Speaker 4 (23:51):
We wanted to just get the update as soon as possible.
Speaker 7 (23:54):
Yes, there is no further update on the American League,
but it has officially been given to show Heotani unanimously
winning his second consecutive National League MVP award, and obviously
he has a translator with him. But then at the
very end, as they were saying bye to him, they
were like, show, hey is deyke is decoy gonna get
extra treats and he did not wait for the translator
(24:15):
and said yes, so.
Speaker 3 (24:17):
He don't need no more.
Speaker 4 (24:19):
You don't need no man.
Speaker 6 (24:20):
I met with at the parade like, hey, y'all want
to thank you your boys so easy, you know what
I'm saying, And shoot west Side, I was like, wait what.
Speaker 7 (24:31):
Yeah, yeah, it just cracks it cracks me up.
Speaker 13 (24:33):
But congratulations to show hey Otani americanly MVP is going
to be announced within the next I would say twenty
or so minutes, because that's how much longer this event has.
Speaker 4 (24:44):
All right, guys.
Speaker 7 (24:45):
Week eleven of the NFL is gonna kick off soon
in about forty five minutes. Patriots and Jets, an AFC
East Divisional matchup.
Speaker 4 (24:51):
Kickoff is at eight fifteen Eastern time.
Speaker 7 (24:54):
When it comes to other NFL and US, no practice
today for Broncos running back JK Dobbins, Chiefs running back
Isaiah Treco and Lions tight end Sam Laporta. The Jets
of placed wide receiver Garrett Wilson on the injured reserve
because of a knee injury. Bengals quarterback Joe Flacco was
limited in practice today with his shoulder injury, but Lamar
Jackson back on the practice field today. He's going to
start Sunday in Cleveland. The Texans have ruled dot quarterback CJ.
(25:17):
Stroud for a second straight week because of his concussion.
Davis Mills is going to get to start Sunday in
Nashville against the Titans, and forty nine Ers quarterback Brock Party.
Speaker 4 (25:25):
Is going to start in Week eleven. This is against
the Cardinals.
Speaker 7 (25:28):
He hasn't played since Week four because of that toe injury,
and he has only appeared in just two games this season.
When it comes to men's college hoops, there is a
top ten matchup going on. Number two Purdue and number
eight Alabama are tied at thirty right now with about
seven minutes.
Speaker 4 (25:42):
To go in the first half, and at the half, number.
Speaker 7 (25:45):
Seventeen Michigan State is leading San Jose State forty six
to twenty three.
Speaker 6 (25:50):
Back to you guys, all right, Manzi, thank you, SdiA, Coble,
Rob Parker, Kevil Washington on a TV. Things on Thursday

Speaker 3 (26:08):
Use as directed.
Speaker 6 (26:09):
We're joined now by our guy Mark Stein, Fox Sports Radio,
NBA Insider distributor of the Stein Line on substack, Mark,
what's up, man?
Speaker 5 (26:20):
I need something to leave. It's been a long week.
Speaker 1 (26:23):
I was gonna say, no doubt about it, no doubt about.
Speaker 5 (26:28):
Because Rob Parker and I are old. We need, we need,
we need some help.
Speaker 4 (26:32):
I need.
Speaker 3 (26:33):
I'm pretty old. Yes, I'm pretty old. I ain't too
far behind you, guys.
Speaker 4 (26:36):
I'm with you, Mark Man. That'll leave us some good stuff.
Speaker 1 (26:39):
Uh, let's talk about the Dallas Mavericks where you live
down in Dallas. And uh, of course Nico Harrison getting
fired and the hold behind the story. I mean, obviously
you start out three and eleven and just just a mess.
Someone's got to be sent to the Wolves. What what'd
you make of this whole thing?
Speaker 5 (26:58):
We look I think when the season started, Patrick Dumont's
intention and hope was that Nico Harrison would have the
whole season to try to put a winning team on
the floor and start to pull this franchise away from
the case. But they've started so poorly and opening night
(27:24):
you get drilled by thirty three against San Antonio. Two
nights later, you lose to Washington. If you've noticed in
the standings, the Wizards are one and one against the
Dallas Mavericks. They are oh and ten against the rest
of the NBA.
Speaker 4 (27:40):
That will go your good career right there.
Speaker 5 (27:43):
So they started oh to two and it just kept
getting worse, including a loss at home to New Orleans.
The Pelicans are on the second night of the back
to back, the mass have a rest advantage and Zion
Williamson is out injured. The Mavericks lost that game, and
the Mavericks nearly lost to Indiana, who has more injuries
(28:06):
than anyone. If Aaron Nethsmith makes a wing three wide
open wing three at the buzzer, that's another loss. Then
the Pacers are one and ten. So it was so
bad that the negativity of last spring, it all came
rushing back, and I just think ownership did not want
(28:26):
to subject itself and did not want to subject the
fans here to They wanted to give the they wanted
to change the atmosphere in the building. I mean, it
just really reached the point that MAVs players were looking
more forward to road games than home games. And all
of this is happening with the MAVs having a home
heavy start, thirteen of eighteen at home to start the season.
(28:46):
And if you look at NBA history, the MAVs are
three and nine. If you look at NBA history, there's
been about two hundred and sixty teams that have started
three or nine and worse in the history of the league,
and only third you're thirty thirty or so of those
have made the playoffs. And in the modern day, in
this century, only three teams in the West have have
(29:09):
been able to survive a three and ninth start and
make the playoffs. So the season in effect has already
slipped away.
Speaker 4 (29:18):
And so Mark kimy.
Speaker 5 (29:19):
Happened faster than expected and they are going to try
now to start on the road to move this thing forward.
Speaker 6 (29:27):
Well, I want to know, Mark, you're connected, You know
a lot going on down there in Dallas. Tell me
more about the ownership because you hear that all their
business people they don't really know basketball. Okay, Oh, this
is all about a casino that they thought they could
get attached to the building and they couldn't, are.
Speaker 4 (29:42):
They And makes sense to me?
Speaker 1 (29:44):
Right, they would know whether whether they don't have gambling
in Texas.
Speaker 6 (29:47):
Mark, so tell me, tell me really not just don't
need but tell folks more about this ownership group.
Speaker 5 (29:54):
Well, I think now we're seeing Patrick Dumont take a
much more active role than he has and we're coming
up on two years. It's Mark Cuban sold the team
to the Dumont and Adelson families. That was right after
Thanksgiving in twenty twenty three, so we're almost two years in.
But I think that was another thing that happened that
(30:15):
kind of showed you that this thing had that had
it run its course. Was this past weekend, the MAVs
had a back to back in Memphis and Washington. They're
coming off the loss to the Pelicans that I described you,
the home loss. They go to Memphis. Memphis is engulfed
in its own chaos and headline, you know, turmoil. MAVs
(30:41):
go down by thirty five in that game at Memphis.
It's the only game the Grizzlies have won in their
last eight. Then they go to DC. Anthony Davis wanted
to play, Nko Harrison wanted him to play. We then
found out that Patrick Dumont actually stepped in and said No,
it's too soon for him to come back from a
(31:01):
CAF train. It's too risky. We need Anthony Davis to
spend more time healing pactor. Kumont had never inserted him
in himself into an on court matter at any point
in his ownership ret reign. That was really the first time.
Speaker 1 (31:16):
And so this is if Nicol knew his job was done,
then I'm telling you.
Speaker 5 (31:21):
That's what I'm saying. When you combine all these things
that have happened in the first few weeks of the season,
that's why it accelerated, and that's why it happens after
eleven games. I do because go ahead, you guys, Yeah.
Speaker 1 (31:33):
I want to ask you about John Murry. I do
want to want to shift over there as well. And
just you know, when a twenty seven year old who's
making I don't know what forty million dollars or whatever
says he's lost his joy for basketball, I don't know
if I really want him on my franchise, on my team.
Speaker 5 (31:50):
Well, I think there are many, many, many, many people
in Memphis who would disagree with you. John Morant is
beloved in that community. It's his city, it's his team,
it's his building. And I think all that factors in
to the Grizzly strategy, which to this point the messaging
out of Memphis has been, we're not looking to trade job,
(32:11):
We're not looking to trade Jaron Jackson Junior. Let this
team get healthy and let's see what it is. But again,
their start to the season, it's been almost as lifeless
as the Mavericks start again. They got throttled at MSG.
John Morant didn't play Wednesday night in Boston. They lost
(32:32):
by thirty six. I mean again in Memphis. In the
Grizzlies last eight games, their only win was against a
Dallas team in an absolute spiral. I mean, they are
going through a lot of the same stuff.
Speaker 12 (32:44):
Now.
Speaker 5 (32:44):
You could also say in the Grizzlies defense, Brandon Clark,
Zach Edie, Ty Jerome, they're big free agent acquisition, Scottie
Pippens Jr. They haven't had these guys, and if you
have those guys, you really can make the argument that
they will be a different team. And Brandon Clark's still
out long term, but the other three are making their
(33:05):
way back, so they should get an infusion of help there,
whereas the MAVs don't know when they're going to see
Anthony Davis and the MAVs obviously are not going to
see Kyrie Irving anytime soon.
Speaker 6 (33:17):
And Mark, I gotta go here. Last night, we see Wemby,
we see the Spurs, and we one knows it's Whim.
Speaker 1 (33:27):
Every one knows it's Whim.
Speaker 4 (33:32):
That was for you, Mark, Come on, I have to
get that.
Speaker 3 (33:34):
There you go, Mark, you all right.
Speaker 4 (33:35):
On my on my phone?
Speaker 12 (33:37):
On my phone?
Speaker 5 (33:38):
Is it sounded like a different language. I couldn't even
make out what you were singing here, so I don't
know what that was.
Speaker 3 (33:44):
He's screaming.
Speaker 6 (33:45):
Everyone knows it's Wenby By the association and instead of Wendy. Uh,
real quick, let me let me go here. What do
you What do you think of the Spurs team? Are
they ahead a schedule right now? Do you think the
hot start will continue to slow down?
Speaker 3 (33:58):
Uh?
Speaker 6 (33:59):
Or are they looking at this and saying, hey, we're
actually real team that can compete now.
Speaker 5 (34:04):
I like him, and look, Wenby has clearly taken a leap.
I mean, yes, he's you know, he has not been
able to sustain what we saw in the first few games,
but I mean his impact defensively just gives you a
chance to win. Every single night. But look, the real
story here is the West. You have all these teams
we can put all We can talk about the Nuggets,
(34:25):
we can talk about the Lakers, we can talk about
the Spurs, we can talk about the Rockets, Timberwolves, you
can talk about the teams that are struggling. Everyone in
the West has the same problem. Friends, the Oklahoma City Thunder,
who are not even whole, who haven't even had Jalen
Williams yet, who are sitting out two or three guys
every night, are just destroying anything in their past. And
(34:49):
they look so good, and they've already beaten so many
teams that are you know, in there, that are supposed
to be their challengers. The Nuggets do look great, and
the US did take him to seventh.
Speaker 1 (35:01):
I was gonna say that's the one team, and they
got better this past offseason.
Speaker 5 (35:06):
And Jokic looks ridiculous. All the talk has been about
how Jokic is taking four or five shots fewer a game.
They said, you know what, I'm going to bust out
a double nickel here on the Clippers. So they look great,
but the Thunder, the Thunder had they just they loom
over the entire league.
Speaker 4 (35:26):
Right now.
Speaker 1 (35:27):
It was so bad that one of the fans tried
to d up the joker last night.
Speaker 4 (35:32):
He came out of good luck.
Speaker 6 (35:35):
Yeah, I don't know what that dud was. That well,
we neither have like a real mission or something to say.
He's just like, hey, I lost the bed. Hey he's lucky.
Speaker 1 (35:45):
The security guards, dare they were light. If he did that, Mark,
you know that in Philadelphia, New York or Boston he
would have got worked over like a Burger friese.
Speaker 4 (35:57):
Yeah, I mean he got off light.
Speaker 3 (36:00):
I was expecting the two pieces in the biscuit. I
ain't gonna lie.
Speaker 6 (36:02):
I thought somebody was gonna hit him with him none
of that. All right, Mark, we appreciate you chanking, by
the ways, Thank you so much.
Speaker 5 (36:08):
