You're listening to the best of the Odd Couple.
Speaker 3 (00:25):
All right, rob g.
Speaker 4 (00:26):
The biggest news going on in this sports world is
still percolating because Lane Kiffin has made a move. He said,
thank you very much, oll Miss, but I'm blowing this
popsicle stand and I'm done.
Speaker 3 (00:42):
The fallout. Yeah, we have a new pope.
Speaker 5 (00:44):
It seems like because we had the conclave, I mean
the con Lane going on our weekend.
Speaker 3 (00:49):
Marty Smith, God rested saw it. It was alive. But damn
that dude was at ole.
Speaker 5 (00:53):
Miss facility for like twenty four straight hours waiting for
the announcement that Lane Kiffin would in fact.
Speaker 3 (00:59):
Did you really think he was not going?
Speaker 4 (01:01):
I mean, I really I'm stunned that people are stunned
that he's going.
Speaker 5 (01:05):
Well, he is, like you mentioned, he's leaving all Miss
on the eve of the college football playoff, which the
running Rebels will be in. We don't know if they'll
be in the top five, top ten, but they'll be
somewhere in the top twelve. And even still, Lane Kiffin
leaving All Miss to take the LSU at coaching job,
he'll be at worst the second highest paid coach in
(01:26):
college football and his team right now left holding the
bag because even though he said he wanted to stick
around and coach them finish out this season with the Rebels,
they said, no, hell no, you're leaving. Don't hit the door.
Hit you on the way out with splitcher. Stay in LSU.
And that's where he's at.
Speaker 3 (01:45):
I'm fine with that.
Speaker 4 (01:46):
If they don't want him to coach, I get it,
and we've seen that happen before. But I don't know
where he's the bad guy. This is the system that's
set up.
Speaker 3 (01:57):
You know. I'm waiting to hear from.
Speaker 4 (02:00):
Nick Sabin and Tom Izzo and them telling me how
bad college sports is with the kids leaving and going.
Speaker 3 (02:08):
To the transfer put where those guys.
Speaker 4 (02:10):
I want to see those guys stand up on big
platforms today and tell me how terrible it is that
coaches walk away from kids. And if you want to
blame Lane Kiffin, Please save it. People have been walking
out on kids forever. This is not new, no breaking news.
This is the system that's set up. This is the
(02:32):
time clock that's set up, right, this is when you
can do it. We know all the Lions fans had
their panties in a bunch last year because Ben Johnson
was interviewing during the playoff.
Speaker 3 (02:42):
Well that's the.
Speaker 4 (02:43):
Timetable, right, You can't you can't wait, You can't.
Speaker 3 (02:47):
You gotta get somebody in place. You gotta get ready.
Speaker 4 (02:49):
This is what happens. So all I'm saying is I
do not blame Lane Kiffin. All these people are like.
Speaker 3 (02:57):
Oh didn't you turn this back on the kids? It
was a shame.
Speaker 4 (03:01):
They had a magical teagion and he could he walked
down on there and this four years seat. Dude, there's
nothing new here, there's nothing special. There's no guaranteed gonna
win some national championship. And it's an opportunity of a lifetime.
And this was a step. Jobs come open, they don't
(03:23):
come open every year. Guy gets and he might have
it for ten years, you don't know, or at least five
or six, and things happen, maybe I'm old miss reverts
back to where it was and it isn't that good
or whatever. After this group of players, there's a lot
of the things that play in but I am going
to wash the hands of Lane Kiffin and I have
(03:44):
no issue with it. Kids, bounce when you're ready to bounce.
Lane Kiffin, bounce when you're ready to bounce. I just
all these people do it, and now it's the end
of the world.
Speaker 1 (03:56):
I'm calling him Lane dipping because he's always dipping. Always
get out of there, and nobody has. You have the
absolute right to go where you want. That's true, but
that doesn't mean people have to like it. And to me,
it also doesn't have to necessarily make sense. I feel
like he all has as a case of the gag.
Grass is always greener. Somewhere else. Feel like he's somewhere
else is gonna be better. Go to else, you somewhere
else can be Alabama, somewhere else.
Speaker 3 (04:17):
Is gonna be better.
Speaker 1 (04:17):
I gotta go to Ohio State, or like, I have
a feeling like this will something will never be satisfied
within him, which is fine, that's just prerogative, but where
you can't have issues where I wonder about the decision
to leave and specifically going there is a couple of things. One, rob,
your program is better than LSU. You literally have built
a better bro You've done now what you hope to
(04:39):
do at LSU, which is build a college football program.
They're not build a program that. I can't tell you
about what they did in the past. I'm telling you
about what I've done. If I'm playing kiffing, don't tell
I don't want to hear about that. I'm telling you
I've been here and we've been playing very well to
the tune now of the best record in the school
history and a chance of the college football playoff. And
(05:00):
when you bring up you're mentioning that to kids, that's
the thing you're leaving them now.
Speaker 3 (05:05):
And I agree with you, he can't.
Speaker 1 (05:06):
The timetable sucks because the whole point you've preached is
come here, we're gonna build something. Come here, we got
a chance compete for a title. Come here, We're gonna
do something that hasn't been done in fifty six years,
whatever it's been for them. And you literally are living
that now. You have a chance to compete. So you're
leaving the college. The coaches do are there with you're
leaving the students, you leave in everybody that's a part
of this program that helped build it to the point
(05:27):
of getting to where you want to get to. You're
going to LSU to hope to compete for a title.
You literally have a chance to now, So that part
of it doesn't make sense to me. If they were
a good team nine and three and competitive and he
just felt like, oh, well, I can understand it. You're
literally having an opportunity to compete for a championship. So
that part of it I don't get. And then the
other thing to at LSU is you gotta you gotta
(05:49):
be careful what you wish for. In a sense of
it is just checking a box because you can go there.
We've seen Brian Kelly just got a whole bunch of
money to leave fifty some million dollars. But ain't guarantee
you can go there and be man and then you're
gone in three four years and what would have happened
You've been another coach at LSU that was there and
you want a few.
Speaker 4 (06:06):
Games, or you might go there and win back to
back championships. How about that and do something as special? Yeah,
you could do that as well. You could have did
it at all, miss No, but now it ain't. No
old back to back championship is an old mess because
I just.
Speaker 3 (06:21):
Dabo Sweeney.
Speaker 1 (06:21):
If I told you he was gonna run off a
decade of greatness, you'd be like, yeah, right, it happened.
Speaker 3 (06:26):
If I told you what. Miami reed and they've had
great coaches.
Speaker 4 (06:32):
Nick Saban went down there unless all these people because
there's something.
Speaker 3 (06:36):
There and maybe this was one of his dreams.
Speaker 4 (06:39):
So that for people, just like a kid who's somewhere
and they go to to Michigan or whatever, they could
have gone to Ohio State, but that might have been
their dream or that that's school.
Speaker 1 (06:49):
That's Howard. He's from Cleveland. Everybody was like, what are
you leaving? So again, that's his absolute prerogative. And I
don't necessarily I don't mind in the sense that this
is like, I would have been more shot for Lane
Kiffer and to stay because that would be counter with
lang Kiffin is typically done. But they hired him knowing
his history, right, That's what I'm saying. So shocking would
have been more if he was, like, you know what,
I didn't doubt at all that he was going. But
(07:11):
I just wonder, like what for him, what's he what's
he chasing? Like what it feels like it for him?
Like I don't know if I gotta do this, I
gotta do that because you got a great situation. You're
the man, you created something there, you got a chance
to compete. You're a better organize, you're a better program.
Right now, I'm not saying historically right now, but he
can look at it.
Speaker 4 (07:30):
And say, look look at what I was able to
do there. Imagine if I had all these LSU resources.
Speaker 1 (07:36):
And people know, the governor, the government, you got about
the governor tell you to get up out of here.
The government, don't be playing around the governator, be paying
attention out there in Louisiana.
Speaker 3 (07:46):
It's it's it's the way things work in life.
Speaker 4 (07:48):
There's opportunities that come and people will look back and
sometimes you'll regret that you didn't take a great opportunity,
you know, something that you really wanted to do.
Speaker 3 (07:59):
And I believe that that's what it is.
Speaker 4 (08:01):
He's one of those guys who's not staying for twenty years.
Speaker 3 (08:04):
That's not his make not his makeup.
Speaker 4 (08:06):
So I don't know why people are so worked up
and they can boo him as he gets on his
private plane to go.
Speaker 3 (08:11):
To bath Rouge or whatever they want to do. Well,
you know he has.
Speaker 1 (08:15):
It's also interesting about lang keivin God have got that
Chip Kelly of what I was talking about failing.
Speaker 3 (08:19):
Up and that he hasn't.
Speaker 1 (08:20):
He hasn't even won a conference title in his career,
Like he keeps getting opportunities.
Speaker 3 (08:25):
That's how few people there are.
Speaker 4 (08:27):
And those are the names Lincoln Riley got.
Speaker 3 (08:30):
Look at the deal he got at USC. What does
he want? There are many people that anything. I agree
with you.
Speaker 4 (08:36):
Again, no big games, always the same situation.
Speaker 3 (08:39):
And then he's mad at everybody else.
Speaker 4 (08:41):
Yeah, and people looking at at USC and go oh
you know no, no, when you hired him, get him
all that loo, he hadn't wonted.
Speaker 1 (08:47):
Ye, So what you thought you were gonna get Caleb?
He did and he got a heisman, but they didn't
win any big games. So my point is lang kivvn
is he still has a lot to prove in that
sense of actually winning something big. He he's turned floor
at Athletic around, obviously, turn old miss around. But that's
the thing to meet is the crazy is that he's competing,
(09:08):
he has a chance to win a national title this year.
Who knows what happened, and he's leaving out on that.
That's the only part for me that's really crazy.
Speaker 3 (09:14):
That's the whole point. Which compete for.

Speaker 3 (10:01):
And uh, it's crazy.
Speaker 4 (10:04):
As bad as the Steelers were and as bad as
the Ravens were, and they're both still fighting for the division,
you know what I mean, Like one of these teams
gonna make the playoffs.
Speaker 1 (10:14):
Joe Burrow picked a bad year to have been down
because I'd be looking like.
Speaker 3 (10:17):
Man, if I was here this whole season, we would
have we would have been done with the division by now.
But you know what I mean.
Speaker 4 (10:22):
But obviously there was the Mike Tomlin bowing and people
want to you know, fire Mike Tomlin, and we do
have the sound on that.
Speaker 3 (10:30):
Let's say listen, you know what, it's not surprising at all.
Speaker 4 (10:45):
And I've said this to you before that they haven't
won a playoff game in a long time.
Speaker 3 (10:50):
You can't keep resting on that championship.
Speaker 4 (10:53):
It's the same thing like John Harbaugh and I said,
I said it both and he's been coached.
Speaker 3 (10:57):
Think about this, Mike Tomlin.
Speaker 4 (10:59):
Ain't teen years dude, And that finishing above five hundred
or I had five hundred or better mediocre Like okay,
Like is that that's cool? Like for a few years,
you know, if you're mixing another one or another championship
or something.
Speaker 3 (11:17):
So I'm not I'm not against.
Speaker 4 (11:18):
I understand the frustration of the Steelers fans, you know,
like this is this is real. Fans want to win
like this, there's and we get it. You don't get
to win that many times. You know that if you
could get see your team winning your lifetime once or
twice you're good. Yeah, and the Steelers one, but that
was what was that? That was before because they lost
(11:40):
to the Packers in twenty ten? So was it before
that or rob g when was that? Yeah, they won
two thousand and eight or nine.
Speaker 1 (11:48):
I know they won with because they run in Detroit
when the Super Bowls in six But I think that
was cowards last one, so I.
Speaker 3 (11:53):
Think he won to beat Seattle. Was that the one?
Speaker 1 (11:56):
Yeah, so that, but I think that was Cowards and
then he went off into the sunset. Yeah, two thousand
times and then that was great. And then they lost
the next year. Right, a year or two later they
walked to the Packers. Yeah, was that two years later?
I thought they won in twenty ten? No, Well, it's
always that weird super Bowl in the next year. But anyway,
(12:16):
my point is if I'm pitched so twice years right,
twice a couple of years later, so then, but then
it's been up a long drought for a long time.
Uh and and people get restless to natives. So I'm
fully if I'm the Steelers.
Speaker 4 (12:32):
Organization, and I know they don't do it because they've
had three coaches over fifty years or whatever it's been.
It feels like about that right. Three coaches and forty
year crazy, Yeah, maybe forty is that the right number.
But anyway, my point is unless they get to the
super Bowl, I'm ready to move off of Mike Tomlin.
I've had enough. I think you need a new voice.
(12:54):
Even they could even get a playoffs, win a playoff game,
and I still would be ready to move off. That's
that's why I am. And I know that sounds hard
because you go, well, you took the next step. I
just think that it's played out, it's it's old. There'll
be other teams that would take him overnight. He get
a job overnight. Brother ain't gonna be unemployed. Sometimes you
just need to move all off. And we saw that
with Tony Dungee. I brought that up before. Now he
(13:16):
wasn't there that long, but they couldn't get over the hump.
Tampa Bay. Tampa Bay and John Gooden showed up. Now
John Gordon, other than that year, he wasn't a great
coach man. Done you a check? You remember that Rob
g showed up and then of course to play his
former team. That helped what was going on, and that
defense man. That's one of my favoriteams. They scored, they
(13:38):
scored more points in the opposive Dude, they would they
would get interception, running them all.
Speaker 3 (13:42):
Back, dude.
Speaker 1 (13:42):
Derek Brooks, Warren Sack. That was That team was Farland
Rendez Barber. That team was amazing. Was a Simeon Simeon
Rice No, that the team was that that was insane.
It was like Miami oh one and Miami certain the
Miami teams were. Okay, everybody in the entire defense is
going on that. Tim I covered that. That was the
number one offense against the number one defense.
Speaker 3 (14:06):
What do they say, defense wive Championship? What the heck
is this?
Speaker 1 (14:10):
Oh?
Speaker 3 (14:10):
Couple things? Number one.
Speaker 1 (14:12):
The Steelers always tell us that the standard is a
standard and Daggy, what is the standard now?
Speaker 3 (14:16):
Upper tier mid because that's what they become. Robb.
Speaker 1 (14:19):
When it was sixteen games, they'd be you know, nine
are you know they'd be nine and seven eight?
Speaker 3 (14:25):
You know?
Speaker 1 (14:25):
Now it be what ten and ten and seven or
nine and eight. That's like what they have been the
last decade or so. They've been having such bad offenses.
They've been struggling offensively, and I can see why the
fans will be like, enough is enough. We've given grace,
We've given time. We said, okay, this quarterback is young, Okay,
this one we've gotten thereon Rogers, like we've done a
multitude of things. This just ain't it. And so if
(14:48):
they decided to move from Mike Tomlin eighteen years in
the twenty twenties and twenty tens, isn't a remarkable gig.
That doesn't happen in sports, That doesn't happen in the
world anymore. Gone other days of your father working for
IBM or the GM planning Detroit for thirty forty years,
fifty years.
Speaker 3 (15:06):
This is a different area. This is the what have
you done for me lately?
Speaker 2 (15:09):
Here?
Speaker 1 (15:09):
And if you haven't done something in three four years,
us year out the door. So Mike Tomlin has been
elicited some grace that other coaches don't often get. So
I look at this you mentioned the fans are staying,
we're used to Super Bowl being a chance, right, a
chance they had historically a chance. They had a nice
room with Ben Roethlisberger where we got to a couple
(15:31):
of Super Bowls, we won one, and we were right
there on the edge. A few years they were used
to being relevant. The Steelers are no longer relevant in
a positive way, and so yes, fans are gonna boo
and I don't I think they also don't see green pasture,
like nothing looks like it's gonna get better, Like they
don't have that like all this is where we're going
in the direction.
Speaker 3 (15:52):
I think it's bigger than that.
Speaker 4 (15:53):
I just think like they he's been there too long
and there's no like like they'll give it a shot
and be like, yo, let's see, but after a while,
like eighteen.
Speaker 1 (16:02):
Years and nobody could be mad at my job.
Speaker 3 (16:05):
Is a real long time to be a coach, he himself.
Speaker 4 (16:07):
It's not the old days where Tommy Walter Alston was
the Dodger manager and he signed twenty four one year contract,
you know, like in those days, like guys didn't go
where are they going, dude? And the Dodgers didn't win.
It didn't win all the time, you know what I mean.
But they didn't change managers like that.
Speaker 1 (16:24):
Yeah, I just think Mike, Mike, the fans are fed up.
They booed him, They booed Aaron Rodgers who just came
back in the game from a broken nose. What it
looked like or at least a beat up, bloodied up nose.
And he even he even caught a stray. So fans
are just fed up in Pittsburgh for one of the
first times we've seen in a while. And they even
had you know, Aaron Rodgers had to talk about it
after the game go ahead.
Speaker 3 (16:45):
We got that all. That's part of it.
Speaker 6 (16:47):
You know, they pay money for a ticket, so they
have the right, could better indifferent to say what they want.
So I totally understand the frustration. I've been booed on offense,
even in Green Bay over the years. So is booeworthy
performance and understanding frustration right, And at least he's honest.
Speaker 4 (17:06):
Like some guys they don't want to hear any boos,
like they think that we.
Speaker 3 (17:10):
Don't need that right now. What I like, I appreciate
him at least be keeping it right.
Speaker 4 (17:16):
It was worthy of them boing me. I get it
out and even said it. I was booed in Green Bay.
Speaker 3 (17:21):
Yes, And here's what we were talking about. They've had
three coaches since nineteen sixty nine. Think about what sense
for you? That is crazy, which is why no.
Speaker 4 (17:34):
Twenty two years Bill Cowell fourteen fourteen Okay, so what
is that? That's thirty six and then you add another
eighteen for Mike Tomlin four.
Speaker 3 (17:45):
That's over fifty of their three code back men your
whole life.
Speaker 1 (17:50):
Think about that almost that's crazy, and again compliments to them,
but that's why they've had stability, that's why they've had
this twenty one seasons without a losing record. But at
a certain point, that be the standard. The standard has
to be we win super Bowls, we get to super Bowls,
we are competitive in that regard, and they're falling off
like you.
Speaker 4 (18:07):
Can't even say that, like even that because they haven't
even they haven't even won a playoff game.
Speaker 1 (18:12):
And since these eight nine years now, right, I think
this year would this is nine going on ten, like
almost a decade, and that can't be the case because
now you look at it as we got the Monday
night getting ready to kick off. Are the Patriots back, right,
Drake may Hoo? Many years has it been rob g
just off the top of since they want to playoff
or a playoff game or or been relevant. It's been
(18:34):
twenty eighteen. What was it that six?
Speaker 3 (18:37):
Six or seven? Is that it? Okay? Yeah? But was that? What?
Who was the quarterback.
Speaker 5 (18:42):
Well, they made the playoffs with Mac Jones, but they
didn't win a game, that's right. And then they made
they won one. Not Brady's last year, the year before
his last year.
Speaker 3 (18:49):
They want a playoff? Kay, yeah, but that's how it happened.
Speaker 4 (18:53):
And before you know it, years go by, and in
this case, I mean eighteen years at the helm, I
think your voice gets stale. It doesn't mean he can't cold,
it doesn't mean that nobody cants him or whatever, but
sometimes it's time to move on. And I think if
even if I'm him, you gotta like think about it.
And I know it's hard to just like you've been
(19:15):
running the place or whatever for a long time. Nobody's
gonna push me out, but at some point you gotta
look at yourself and go, like, you know what, I
need a fresh start. I need somewhere else. And that's
a great run.
Speaker 1 (19:27):
But I wonder so that I don't disagree with the
idea that he's had a run and an uncomparable I mean, again,
you don't get that run. You can win a super
Bowl and be out in two years. You can win
in Philadelphia the exactly. Then we see that like Doug Peterson.
It was like you. They said, you can do the
Douggie on somewhere else.
Speaker 4 (19:46):
You can go to Jacksonville and then get bounced from
there in two years.
Speaker 1 (19:50):
And that serious they've been calling Serrianti's done nothing but
win at a high clip, one of all time clips
of the first five years been that goes five or.
Speaker 3 (19:59):
Something, and they every week.
Speaker 1 (20:01):
They're calling for him. So that so that's why I
go to your point about him leaving. That's why he
probably would not want to leave, because as long as
I'm competitive and good, all I've known is a job.
All I've known is security, and it ain't like that
everywhere else. If he becomes available, he's going to get
his job. He would get a job anybody he would
get a job. Then he got he get a job.
(20:23):
Like what I'm saying is so many, so many bad coaches,
like like you ain't lying about that, There's so many.
But I'm saying, what if he don't what if he
enjoys the stability is what I'm saying, meaning, Okay, I
take the job for them making it up the Titans,
but but I'm just got two years.
Speaker 4 (20:38):
You get stale, though, don't you think that you know
there's situations it could get stale on you.
Speaker 1 (20:44):
The biggest challenge for him job and relationship is not you,
it's me. You know he can run. Is that the
line run with the Steelers. It's not you, it's me.
Speaker 3 (20:53):
It's me. It's me.
Speaker 1 (20:55):
Just I see so much more for you girls, just
going ahead ahead. I'm sure I want to see you fly.
Speaker 4 (21:01):
Somebody else will treat you way better than I can
treat you.
Speaker 3 (21:05):
Can do I gotta fix me right now.
Speaker 1 (21:07):
But my only point, Rob, we might not be having
this conversation if they had changed their philosophy a bit
more offensively. They have been stay offensively even before Aaron Rodgers,
like they don't have a juice in that regard. And
when I think you look at the collective of the NFL,
where teams are going, and the teams that you know
who kind of are popping, and you got you already
got the guys you knew, Josh Allens, the Lamar, the
(21:29):
you know, Patrick Mahomes, guys you chased. Then you got
these Drake Mads and the boat Nicks and then wherever
you want to put justin Herbert kind of in the
middle of those, like, you got a lot of guys
in your own conference that are compete. C. J.
Speaker 3 (21:38):
Stroud seems to.
Speaker 1 (21:39):
Be coming back around, and I know about that, and
that they're looking at it like no touch. Are the
Coats real like I think they're looking at it like, Man,
we can't be behind all of these teams in our
own let alone the other conference, just in our own
conference at AFC, and they don't have anything inside. Aaron
Rodgers is this last year. He doesn't look great. The
offense is struggling, can't run the ball. They were talking
(22:02):
about bringing him back next year. That can't be good.
So it's like what's coming down?
Speaker 4 (22:06):
The pilot always depends on the finish obviously that that
will determine everything where they are. They're not out of anything.
As we just talked about it, that the division is
there to be had. Can you can you finish straw?
They play this? Man, they got some good games. I
mean might and and and and I'm going to Detroit
on Thursday.
Speaker 3 (22:26):
That's another one. Destroyed Cowboys a good one because that's
a big one.
Speaker 4 (22:29):
If the if the Lions lose that game, they're don't
have a really hard time to make their house.
Speaker 3 (22:35):
Maybe that's almost a playoff game.
Speaker 1 (22:37):
Seriously, well for both teams view it that way because
the Cowboys feel like, especially the Eagles loss, we got
a shot, you know, a long wind, and you're.
Speaker 4 (22:44):
Gonna look at the Cowboys who think to themselves, dude,
look at what we've done the last few weeks.
Speaker 1 (22:48):
This is winnable, like no Saint Brown right, oh no,
they look scary, dude, which I don't know what is he?
Speaker 3 (22:55):
Dude? Right now? Come back? Did he laugh?
Speaker 1 (22:59):
He's like, but you I'm not gonna be here. That's
the typical lions. And I'm gonna tell you why that
was a good tease. Okay, that was a good tea.
Speaker 3 (23:06):
I'm just gonna keep it real.
Speaker 4 (23:07):
Why why announced that before he has his physical? Like seriously,
like like you retired when you coming back?
Speaker 1 (23:15):
They posted it too, like on their page, there's a
picture him in the tunnel.
Speaker 4 (23:19):
All I'm saying is, hey, come in, let's get the physical,
let's get everything straight. And then we announced it. Everybody's excited,
like they they they they messed off because they jumped
the gun and you already know that the guy retired.
And then you got to make sure you know it
ain't like, oh you're coming back. Okay, you're on the team. No,
this is a physical leg stuff. There's a lot to
(23:41):
go through. So guess who welcomed them back?
Speaker 1 (23:43):
The Lions could have welcome back Barry Sanders and Calvin Johnson.
Come on back to the I retire when I still
have something left in the tank club Megatrons to come
on over here. There's me and you and Barry great
greats who still has someff left in the tank.
Speaker 3 (23:54):
But we got out lioned. We tied of the Lions.
Speaker 2 (23:57):

Speaker 1 (24:08):
I tell you what, if you're the Giants, you know,
win lose. You just want to compete obviously right now.
But you got to be feeling good Jackson Dart feeling
good about Sam saying they got Jackson Dart who they
feel good in, Malik Neighbors, who was a top receiver
when he comes back.
Speaker 3 (24:23):
He obviously got her early this season.
Speaker 1 (24:25):
And then you got Scataboo as well coming back, like
they got some nice pieces along with some good defensive
players as well. So you got what I can't do
an acknowledgement. Why I got to tell you the next year,
I just can't.
Speaker 4 (24:37):
I'm saying, I think a team that's two and ten
and you're talking about injured because.
Speaker 1 (24:41):
Their quarterback has been First of all, they started Russell Wilson,
not a few games.
Speaker 3 (24:45):
That's where they went wrong. I told you that.
Speaker 4 (24:47):
But their quarterback like okay, like he hadn't won any games.
I mean, my god, I get it. He's a young guy.
He's reckless out sit here and tell you that he's
not gonna have the career you think, because if he
canntinues to do what he's done and continues.
Speaker 3 (25:02):
To run, he will not be a quarterback for the Giants.
Speaker 1 (25:05):
In the law been a half three quarterbacks, he said
the same thing. They need to calm down, and he
learned to slight and they did. This is his first
year in the NFL.
Speaker 3 (25:15):
Is first disagreeing with you. I said he needed putting
his head in there. Take he got rock, he got right,
keep doing it, keep doing it. They got to be
a quarterback.
Speaker 1 (25:27):
And then they're going hammered that to no pun intended,
hammer that on his head this offseason. I mean, just
com're gonna say that because it's ro Let me tell
you why. You know why, we're creatures of habit. Okay,
so when I start.
Speaker 3 (25:40):
Saying this, you want to ask me, are they gonna
be in.
Speaker 1 (25:42):
The super Bowl? That's because you're a creature of habit.
I'm not doing that for forty years. I'm not going
on the stove hand like that. They after their fans
have to be saying, hey, I like our quarterback. I
like Scataboo, I like the energy. What they are able
to do when leak neighbors is insane when he comes back.
So I'm saying, if you're a fan of the Giants,
you gotta be feeling a little bit of like, all right,
(26:03):
I like what we can be next year. They got
some nice pieces Defensively, they got a couple as well.
That's what I'm saying, Rob, not saying that the super Bowl.
What you gotta start. You gotta take anything.
Speaker 4 (26:13):
I've never seen anybody more positive and more rainbows lollipops
than you. Everybody's great, everybody's gonna be great in the future.
Speaker 3 (26:23):
Not at all.
Speaker 4 (26:23):
Yeah, let me look at this young guy. Yeah okay, yeah,
Like you sat there and you told me yeah, oh, yeah,
this guy's gonna be great. Well, I'm just saying, like,
what what what.
Speaker 3 (26:31):
Rub rub this? So this is our company?
Speaker 1 (26:35):
Well, you can literally have somebody be fifteen and two
and you you find, oh, the one game they lost
even though you picked them to lose every single week.
I can come out of here and tell you I
like this person, this team, and then tell you what
I don't like about him. Yo, they gotta give it.
A great example. I don't like the way Dan Campbell
(26:55):
is coaching right now, Lion's rooting for him. I can
also tell you that with you it's gang related. If
I like you, you can do nothing wrong. I actually
can be objective and come on here and tell you
you will not like.
Speaker 3 (27:07):
The Lions and I don't like that. I'm not even
gonna sit You're weak.
Speaker 1 (27:10):
For you in the best about it, if you're a fan,
the best part about it, and the part about it
you gonna take your allowed that you're not objective.
Speaker 3 (27:20):
Your best part about fan? Do you have a good
can Can you admit your fan? Your fan? I'm the Lion.
Who is anybody Lions jerseys and who is? But that
you're a fan. I'm not gonna buy that. To buy it.
We're not gonna care. You're not. You're the only one
(27:41):
that has a problem with you know, we know you,
but it don't sit in and go it's freedom.
Speaker 4 (27:47):
I'm objective, absolutely, you're the lion's part and you pick
the lions out and I can tell you.
Speaker 3 (27:54):
Go to his instagram, li is one again, one again?
How are you object one? Because I I'm on the air,
so so is there a partition here? Do you listen?
Speaker 1 (28:04):
Is your left ear messed up? I tell you every
week what I see, what I call it as it is.
Every single week, I'll tell you whatever team we could
be talking about. I like Patrick Gohoman and I don't
like the way he's playing. I don't like the way
they're they're going right now. I can tell you, Josh Allen,
I don't like the way that they're sold. Josh right,
Josh Allen lyon. I tell you every week. That's the difference.
I can tell you a team that I like, but
(28:24):
I don't like what they're doing. Or I like this system,
but I don't like that you if you're in it's
gang related. I got blinders on. I can't see anything else. Hey,
Aaron Rodgers suck well, well, Lamar Jackson. He went well,
Lamar Jackson. That's the difference. I'm the best part about
everything is taped.
Speaker 3 (28:41):
Got all. Difference between me and you is that you're rooting.
Speaker 1 (28:44):
You want the Lions to win a sair.
Speaker 3 (28:48):
Want to tell you that's what being a You're not
liking somebody's not being conjected. No, I don't care who wins,
but you're not. That's the difference. Don't come on here
and say no, I am from the metro Detroit area.
That's fine. I've been a fan of the Lions. That's
you're not playing well right now? Boy, just sharing off.
(29:10):
I'm a fan boy, I love Detroit. Do we need
to go back to the comment? Do we need to
go back to the commons? I'm gonna because I'm not
that god, but you are not. It's okay.
Speaker 1 (29:22):
I feel like I'm inn say intervention off a Yankee fan.
I've never been to tell you about your history. I'm
telling you about your president, telling you. Everybody who listens
to the show knows we just had a whole segment
and nothing but comments.
Speaker 3 (29:36):
They know you ain't hiding it. I'm not work.
Speaker 1 (29:40):
Honest, I'm a Lions fan who is disappointed in the
way that they've been performing, Disappointed in Dan Campbell, Dan
Gamble as you call him. I agree, I text you
all the time. I tell the people on all the time.
He is gonna cost him several games. He continues to
not do this. I do this about the James just
sixty at a time, Lebron James. Shouldn't have did this,
shouldn't have did that. The best part about this we
got podcasts, we got YouTube. Why can we any time
(30:03):
that we are the odd couple?
Speaker 4 (30:04):
I'm you and you're a fan because I'm a reporter.
Speaker 3 (30:11):
I am you're a fan. You're a fan. Keeps it
a buck. That's why. That is what I am.
Speaker 1 (30:17):
Fans who keep it a buck, and I'm about to
keep it a buck about somebody else you're a fan of.
Speaker 3 (30:21):
Since you want to go there, Rod, no know.
Speaker 4 (30:23):
The only reason that you don't like Caleb and they'll
win it because this affects the Lions. This doesn't affect
That's what yesterday that they're going to win the division
and it's the reason that the Lions aren't. And that's
gonna hurt you.
Speaker 3 (30:37):
The Lions don't win is because the Lions haven't played
well enough to win.
Speaker 4 (30:40):
Sure, Patrick Mahomes didn't play well. They all you talked to.
What did I say every week throughout was yeah, it
made the play win.
Speaker 3 (30:47):
What did I say win? That's what That's what. That's lies.
Speaker 1 (30:51):
Put the camera on me, That's what every single week
when I set up here and told you, unfortunately ride,
I got to agree with you. Patrick Mahomes is off
right now. Some doesn't look right right now out the
offense can't get going. Thank God for the defense.
Speaker 3 (31:03):
That's what I do.
Speaker 1 (31:04):
You know, I'm a news anchor too, right. I come
in with the facts and be objective.
Speaker 3 (31:08):
Brother, you know this.
Speaker 1 (31:09):
Put the camera back home. Let's talk about these bears.
Let's get back to these bears.
Speaker 3 (31:14):
I was sitting here saying.
Speaker 1 (31:15):
They actually have a high ceiling because Kayler Williams hasn't
played well, because Kayler Williams is either middle or last.
Speaker 3 (31:21):
When it comes to your TJ Houshmanjao. When he was
on don't go part, go ahead, forget it, go ahead
they right now, we all came into this season.
Speaker 1 (31:30):
With Williams of Philadelphia one gotta he gotta No, I
don't have a I'm saying they're winning despite him, the
fact that the Bear. We came into the Bears saying,
Ben Johnson, Kayler Williams, how's this marriage gonna work? How
is Kayler Williams gonna improve? And what it ended up
being is that Kayla Ben Johnson reminded us that what
(31:51):
Ben Johnson did, despite all the sexy and Q plays
in Detroit, Ben Johnson at his core is a running
actually a running style, offensive coordinated and I think we
got reminded of that this season because they're number number
two in rushing right now, the Bears are averaging about
a buck fifty a game. And then you look at
what their defense is doing right now. They're first in takeaways.
(32:12):
So this team has been built between defense running the ball,
which we all get. Ben Johnson will draw up some
crazy plays, but that's the core of who he is.
And then you look at Caleb Johnson, right kaylb Williams,
who's been struggling right now, as he had fifty percent
against those Eagles. They ran the ball almost three hundred
yards and he is averaging, like his completion percentage around
fifty seven percent right now, and he's at qbr is eighteen.
(32:36):
So they actually been winning despite what we all came
in wondering how the pairing between Caleb Williams and Ben
Johnson it would be. It hasn't been great. Ben Johnson
has said we've gone in spite of the passing game.
I ain't the coach, That's what he said. And so
that's to me why it's been remarkable and to that credit,
their ceiling can be high. If Caleb Williams starts to
get it going, that would be impressive because the defense
(32:58):
has been spectacular. Over is getting takeawayunning game, what's the record.
Speaker 4 (33:04):
It's just it's just silly, like like you could go
and hand pick whatever you want. If you watch, if
you if you if you watch the game, it's about
it's about it's about making plays. Did you watch the
game that the touchdown he threw the seal of game
in Philadelphia? That wasn't a running play. He rolled out,
he rolled left and made up and threw a dime.
(33:25):
Go watch the play. He doesn't have to throw three touchdown.
Patrick Mahomes threw four touchdowns.
Speaker 3 (33:30):
And they lost. That's great. All I'm trying to say to.
Speaker 4 (33:34):
You is that this whole idea that you worried about
completion percentage. It ain't got nothing to do. It's about
wins and losses and making plays. That's what the NFL is.
It's about making plays. It's about did you tackle a
guy or did he get by you. It's really a
really simple game. Did you catch the ball or did.
Speaker 3 (33:54):
You drop it? So did you throw the touchdown when
it mattered?
Speaker 1 (33:57):
How many big games did they win at the end
where he do a touchdown, I'm asking you a question.
Just don't understand it. He's won three that's what has
he performed? Well, that's what I care about.
Speaker 4 (34:09):
Perform second year quarterback would have coordinate absolutely.
Speaker 3 (34:13):
Okay, well, his own coach.
Speaker 1 (34:15):
His own coach doesn't think that, and nobody's saying again,
that's why I said the ceiling is high for them.
If he can get it right. That's why I just
said that. If he can actually get it right, they
won four games when trailing with two minutes.
Speaker 3 (34:28):
To go in the game. He's done something right. That's
my point is that he has made plays to game.
So so you're two minutes to go, how about we
not be down all the time. That's that's not how
it goes.
Speaker 1 (34:42):
And again, so my whole point is they've been able
to dominate with the defense. Caleb Williams, this is what
we're just talking. Nobody said they can't approve. That's that's
literally that's they've been able to. It's a backhanded compliment. Man,
get out here with that.
Speaker 3 (35:00):
What it is he hasn't played West. He made, but
he hasn't played well.
Speaker 4 (35:06):
They won four games in the final two minutes and
you're acting like he hasn't done anything.
Speaker 3 (35:11):
That's not what I said.
Speaker 1 (35:11):
I said he has not played great maya a professional athlete.
That's literally what we do, not it because he's being
this is come on, you at least have some consistency
because matter of factor, maybe the opposite. You do have
consistency because Matthew Stafford has been playing out of his
mind and he ain't this and he ain't that. But
then Kayler Williams, who is fifty percent passing QBR is
(35:35):
lower than half the league.
Speaker 3 (35:36):
But he's out here playing well. Boy, I can't keep up.
I can't keep up with you.
Speaker 1 (35:40):
Actually, yeah, it won't make his second year, they started
out oh and two, they gave him fifty points to
the Lions and now they're nine and three.
Speaker 3 (35:49):
One of the best records in that and you see
a bunch of coming.
Speaker 4 (35:53):
Your comment and your conversation is about how bad Caleb
Williams said, he come on, whinning's awful, that's awful.
