Speaker 1 (00:01):
You're listening to Fox Sports.
Speaker 2 (00:04):
Well, they say you're supposed to step out of your
comfort zone every now and again, And I got a
question that will force all of you to do it.
It's one you've probably been asked before, but it's one
of these questions that's supposed to gauge your own selfishness.
So I don't know if the answer people give is
a genuine one. I throw it out there in just
(00:24):
a second as we welcome you in hope you are
safe and.
Speaker 1 (00:28):
Sound wherever you are.
Speaker 2 (00:29):
Bringing us in on Fox Sports Sunday alongside e from Salama,
Mark Willard, and we are broadcasting live from the tyraq
dot com studios tyraq dot com. We'll help you get
there on mattch Selection, fast free shipping, free roadh hazard protection,
and over ten thousand recommended installers tiraq dot com The
way tire buying should be. We can be straight with
(00:51):
our audience. The first thing I got to ask you is, actually,
are you okay? Because I am in the Bay Area, California.
It is a eighty five degrees and perfect here right now.
You are in southern California. Or did you put all
the patio furniture away? Like, y'all do it all right
down there?
Speaker 1 (01:11):
No, we're good man.
Speaker 3 (01:12):
It's rainy, it's raining, but it's just rain, right, it's raining, Okay.
Speaker 2 (01:19):
But I do not mean to make light because I
know there are certain people in certain places where it's
it's not right all on the up and up right now.
But this is also in my twenty years living there,
this is the most Southern California thing ever, which is
to freak out about what's about to happen, and then
(01:40):
what happens is a huge nothing burger. Do you remember Karmageddon?
Do you remember that, like seven or eight years ago,
when they were gonna do a bunch of freeway work
and close a freeway for an entire weekend, and everyone
predicted if you needed to go somewhere, a one hour
drive was gonna take like, I mean, you're not gonna
(02:01):
be able to move. Oh, And everybody did one of
two things. They either left buckets of time to get
where they were going, or they just stayed home and
the freeways were completely wide open. In fact, it was
the most glorious driving weekend in the history of Southern California.
And this feels like potentially the weather version of that
(02:22):
for for a lot of.
Speaker 1 (02:23):
People down there.
Speaker 3 (02:24):
Yeah, it's it's been raining since the early morning the
whole time. But other than that, you know, it's by
the time it started raining, it was not even it
was a tropical storm and not a hurricane anymore. Uh,
there's a lot of you know, it's a wind out
there's a lot of rain. You know, Southern California isn't
built itself for steady rain like that. That's why we
(02:48):
have the mud slides. And then you have, you know,
an occasional sink hole here and there, because it is
very dry out here for the most part year round.
But the great thing is we had a winter where
we had an excess amount of rain. So any rain
(03:11):
we get is good rain. That's the way I've received.
Speaker 2 (03:14):
Yeah, yeah, amen, Amen to that. So wherever you are,
I hope you're safe. I hope you're chilling, and I
hope your flights didn't get canceled. My son is down
there visiting family right now, and he has a flight
tomorrow morning, and they canceled it two days ago. But
all good, all good, we rescheduled. I hope everybody is
safe and sound as they hang. All right, Here is
(03:36):
the question much asked in sports media, and I bet
I know what an offensive lineman would say, But would
you rather be a great player on a bad team
or would you rather be kind of a mediocre player
(03:56):
on a good team.
Speaker 3 (03:58):
I would always want to win. Professional sports is too
hard not to win. It takes too much out of you,
and people get blinded by the money and the fame
that comes with being.
Speaker 1 (04:09):
A professional athlete.
Speaker 3 (04:10):
But just think about it in the terms of this
is a job that the individual has worked pretty much
his entire life to get to. He's been really exceptional
at every step along the way, and in most cases
used to winning a whole lot. And then you get
(04:33):
to a point where you reach the pinnacle, you reach
the dream, and you're still talented, you're still doing what
you're doing, and it's not enough to help a team win.
That'll drive a professional athlete crazy. Then you become jaded,
Then you don't care. Then it's just about the money.
(04:58):
So I was a just a regular player on a
pretty darn good team that.
Speaker 1 (05:04):
Got us to the Super Bowl. I was a rookie.
Speaker 3 (05:08):
I had zero technique playing right tackle because I was
a left tackle, But they put me out there because
I love to compete and I worked my butt off,
so yeah, I wouldn't trade that in for the world.
I wouldn't trade that in to be you know what
Joe Thomas was for so many years. I hate the
fact that he didn't get a chance to really win.
Speaker 2 (05:30):
Right, right, right, No, That's exactly how I figured you
would answer this question. That's the mindset of someone who
plays a position that is I don't know what the
right word is.
Speaker 1 (05:46):
It's not that your complementary.
Speaker 2 (05:47):
The offensive line is as important as anything, but you
know how it works.
Speaker 1 (05:51):
Like you, guys don't get your name called till you.
Speaker 2 (05:53):
Mess up, so you're not built on the attention seeking
and and and the fame that goes with.
Speaker 1 (06:02):
Quarterback, wide receiver, etc.
Speaker 2 (06:04):
I would answer it the same way as you, even
though I'm someone who has.
Speaker 1 (06:08):
Not played at a level like that. Here's why I ask.
Speaker 2 (06:13):
We are already starting to see the articles and I
read a long one this morning with regard to the
New York Jets and whether or not there are enough
footballs to go around, and it struck me. It struck
me as interesting because outside of Aaron Rodgers and I
guess Dalvin Cook, but I would submit that Dalvin has
(06:35):
been through an experience the last six weeks that would
I don't know if it humbled him at all, but
he was damn well aware that he was not going
to go somewhere and get fed like a feature back
twenty five times a game like he did in Minnesota.
Outside of Aaron Rodgers, the expectations that he brings with
(06:58):
him to the New York Jets, you have a number
of people on that offense who have never experienced any
kind of professional what I would call true greatness, like
really humming at a.
Speaker 1 (07:15):
High level name value.
Speaker 2 (07:16):
I know there's rookies who popped last year in a
short sample, Priest Hall in a larger sample, Garrett Wilson.
Speaker 1 (07:25):
But with those two.
Speaker 2 (07:26):
Players, and then add in now Dalvin Cook, Aaron Rodgers
old friend Alan Lazard is thrown in there, I tend
to think that thoughts like this are kind of overdone
a little.
Speaker 1 (07:42):
Bit of a waste.
Speaker 4 (07:43):
I don't really have any illusions that anybody on the
New York Jets is going to fly off the handle
and out of line if there are a couple targets
short week to week.
Speaker 1 (07:58):
But you tell me if I'm off there, no, no it.
Speaker 3 (08:02):
Look the thing about the NFL when they start talking
about not enough footballs to go around, Well, you don't
necessarily need enough footballs to go around.
Speaker 1 (08:14):
You just need people to be hot. Right.
Speaker 3 (08:17):
This is not like basketball, like every single possession you
can come down to court and everybody gets to touch
or anything like that. You call plays and you exploit
what the defense gives you. So if you're the quarterback
and you have dynamic receivers on the outside, you're gonna
(08:37):
spread it around. They're gonna have to double someone, so
someone to be open. Running backs right the fresher. Your
high quality running backs are the better. So if you
have two of them, you hitt and pay dirt. This
notion of oh is too much too many? No, what
(08:59):
are they gonna do? They're going to prosper offensively because
of the weapons.
Speaker 1 (09:04):
The only.
Speaker 3 (09:06):
The only thing there is the offensive line. Right, they
have some guys injury. When Dwayne Brown comes back, that'll
be better for him. It just the skill positions you
want to have.
Speaker 1 (09:19):
Too many? Did the Kansas City chief have too many people?
Speaker 5 (09:25):
What?
Speaker 2 (09:25):
The funny thing is that the Chiefs are a great
comp because I think San Francisco again are a better
example is they're too much Chiefs wide. No, absolutely not.
Nobody is saying that the Chiefs wide receiver corps is
starting to become very, very reminiscent of Tom Brady's great
(09:46):
years in New England. You know, once they got rid
of Tyreek Hill, there are no stars there. And even
who was their top receiver last year in Juju Smith.
Speaker 1 (09:55):
Schuster, he's gone, he's gone.
Speaker 2 (09:57):
I would defy if you're if you've not already had
a fantasy football draft, I would defy the average football
fan to be able to name three wide receivers on
the Kansas City Chiefs.
Speaker 3 (10:09):
Couldn't do it. Couldn't do I couldn't do it. I
had a draft already, but my drafts I.
Speaker 2 (10:17):
Had a league that drafted like brother like two weeks ago.
Speaker 1 (10:22):
It was absurd. It was way too early, way way
way too early, and I knew it, and it was
just a matter of when everybody could get together. But
I hated it from the beginning.
Speaker 2 (10:32):
And then you know, I think in the fourth or
fifth round, I grabbed Breist Hall and then two weeks later,
Dalvin Cook signs and you throw your hands up in
the air and you scream.
Speaker 1 (10:41):
Our draft was too early. That's the kind of stuff
we do this time of year. Why don't you take
control of that?
Speaker 2 (10:47):
Then?
Speaker 1 (10:47):
Man, okay, get it together over there on my league.
Speaker 2 (10:50):
I got, I got a league and then my league.
But you know, you handle that whole thing. But but yeah,
the Chiefs are a great example. Like nobody's saying with
the Chiefs, nobody's wondering if, like, are people gonna start
chirping at Patrick Mahomes And no one would even say
that to Kelsey. I know, is their perception out there
(11:12):
that Travis Kelcey gonna start freaking out if Kadarius Tony
gets nine looks in a particular game.
Speaker 1 (11:21):
Like what that's a squad that knows how to win.
Speaker 3 (11:24):
What happens when you win? Guys are fine? Guys are fine.
Guys start arguing and wanting the ball more when you're
not winning because they feel like I could do more.
Give me the ball, and I and and I can
do more. Remember Keishawan, throw me the dang ball.
Speaker 1 (11:44):
Yep.
Speaker 3 (11:45):
Right, So the Jets weren't very good there. So anybody
who can play and who knows that they can make
a difference when the ball is in their hand, they'll
start to chirp when you're now. You can't chirp when
you're seven and two and the number one seed in
(12:07):
the AFC or the NFC and winning your division by
three games, Like, you can't start complaining now you look
selfish in like a clown.
Speaker 1 (12:16):
Yep.
Speaker 3 (12:18):
So this notion of us not too many for win,
There'll be plenty of footballs around now individually for stats.
I don't know if that's more important than the actual win,
then you'll let everybody know.
Speaker 2 (12:32):
Yeah, well, you know, to a lot of fans it is.
And I do think that's where a lot of this
comes from. This comes from the fact that it's August
twentieth and a lot of people are having fantasy drafts
this weekend and next weekend, and so we get very
focused on stats. I had a fun little conversation with
my son, was driving him to the airport the other
day and he goes, I really don't like how the
(12:55):
NFL has gone to this running back by committee thing
across the board.
Speaker 1 (13:00):
I said, why, he goes, it's bad for fantasy.
Speaker 2 (13:01):
I go everybody dealing with it, so it's not like
whoever you're playing against, it's not like they have access
to a bunch of every down backs and you don't
so like it's all good.
Speaker 1 (13:13):
But that's where our brains are. That's where our brains are.
Speaker 2 (13:15):
On August twentieth, we are all trying to figure out
who's gonna stuff the staff sheet stat sheet this year.
Speaker 3 (13:21):
Yeah, running backs are tricky now in fantasy football. They
used to be bill gals. Remember they used to be
first off the board. Now you better luck, you better
off taking it, depending on how your point structure is.
Speaker 1 (13:32):
No quarterback not in round one, many of them. Well, no,
that's not that's not true.
Speaker 3 (13:39):
Blow Because I play in the league with my wife's family,
my father in law. They have a league and the
most valuable commodity in that league is a quarterback because
there's you know, you can change however discording system you want.
So I think it's a yard point a yard and
then seven for a touchdown and then if you if
(14:02):
it passes over like so you can a quarterback in
this league. Now listen, listen. The quarterback in this league
can score one hundred and three points in a game.
Ninety eight eighty. The average, the average in the league
that I'm in for a quarterback is right around seventy points.
Speaker 1 (14:26):
Okay, so it's broke. That's that's all that means. I signed.
Speaker 3 (14:29):
They look they've been doing this league for a long time.
It was the first time I ever played fantasy football.
So if you don't grab a Patrick Mahomes, if you
don't grab a Joe Burrow, if you don't grab one
of the Josh, if you don't grab one of them.
Speaker 1 (14:47):
How many people in your league we have? Is it
you got ten? Yes? Ten ten teams? Ten teams? Yeah.
Speaker 2 (14:55):
See, I mean that's kind of the problem though, or
not the problem. That's kind of what I mean. You're like,
if you don't grab an Allen, a Mahomes, a Burrow,
a Hurtz, a Lamar Jackson, I mean like a Justin Fields,
a Trevor Lawrence, if you don't grab one of those guys,
I'm like, everybody gets to grab one of those guys.
(15:15):
There's almost ten guys who you know, Justin Herbert I
just name eight guys right there.
Speaker 1 (15:23):
So that's why you wait, man, that's why you wait.
Not in his lead.
Speaker 2 (15:28):
Okay, Well I'm not in your I'm not in your
crazy scoring system league. But anyway, we're brought to you

its August twentieth. August twentieth today is Sunday, so that
means three weeks from today first full Sunday of action
(17:58):
in the NFL.
Speaker 1 (18:00):
It found so far away three weeks. I know, I know,
like it's it's it's here.
Speaker 2 (18:05):
But when we get close, I mean, it's like telling
the kid that we're going to Disneyland this weekend.
Speaker 1 (18:10):
That week at school is long.
Speaker 2 (18:14):
Yeah, I mean right, it's like, come on, I'm staring
at the clock.
Speaker 1 (18:19):
I wanted to be over.
Speaker 2 (18:24):
If you tell me on August twentieth that you haven't
decided who your quarterback is, it means you don't.
Speaker 1 (18:33):
Have a quarterback period.
Speaker 2 (18:39):
That's my contention. And and and I'll skip out on
the idea that it means you've got two good ones.
And I'm looking straight at you, Tampa Bay Bucks.
Speaker 1 (18:53):
I'm looking straight at you. Man.
Speaker 2 (18:55):
You've put a couple of teams not on blast, but
on the list of teams that are taking action this
year purposefully to set themselves up for a shot at
Caleb Williams out of USC. Are the Bucks on the
list because it feels like they punted on the idea
of solidifying the quarterback position when Tom Brady left.
Speaker 3 (19:19):
I mean, what could they do if you weren't in
the draft and you weren't at the place to get
one of the top three quarterbacks, then you're pretty much punting,
you're pretty much rolling the dice on what you do
have or what you do draft after that, it may
(19:42):
work out, it may not work out, But yeah, you
would eye the next year's top quarterback, and it'll be
a couple. Next year, it'd be probably about three guys
who any team would want to have, Caleb Williams being
the jewel of that. And look, we have haven't played
a down of college football this year yet, right, But
(20:05):
I'm going to go out on a limb and say,
even if Caleb william didn't play this year, he would
be the top pick in the draft based on how
he's played and how people are evaluating and grading him.
So you know, yeah, you cross your fingers. Man, you're
(20:27):
in the sweep. Sakes, what did the seventy six ers say?
Speaker 1 (20:31):
Trust the process? Trust the process? Yeah? I don't trust it.
Though it did work for him.
Speaker 2 (20:35):
Its been a long time, yeah, but it's been a
long time since it worked without Tom Brady.
Speaker 1 (20:40):
And you're right about the draft.
Speaker 2 (20:41):
They were all the way down to number nineteen because
they won that division even with a terrible record, and
so maybe they.
Speaker 1 (20:47):
Weren't positioned to pounce in terms.
Speaker 2 (20:50):
Of a rookie but I also don't think Baker Mayfield
was the top of the free agent market this offseason either.
Speaker 1 (20:59):
And I'll trask, I mean, we haven't seen him, but
I just.
Speaker 2 (21:09):
We'd have heard or seen something by now if they
are actually excited about him.
Speaker 1 (21:13):
That's my contention.
Speaker 3 (21:14):
And you're right, And look, you have to realize the
league needs backup quarterbacks. So even if you draft a quarterback,
there's nothing he has. It has to come down to
a situation like Tom Brady. They didn't draft Tom Brady
(21:35):
to ever play. You don't draft a quarterback in the
sixth round for him ever to start in the regular season.
You don't draft a quarterback with the last pick in
the draft for him ever to start. But what you
want to do is you want to develop him and
you want to keep him in your in your in
(21:55):
your organization just in case something happens to the guy
who's starting, you can bring him in and he can
be a band aid. Gary Kubiak was in the league
for twelve years. He was John elways backup for twelve years.
(22:15):
People don't even know that Gary Kubiak was a professional
quarterback in the NFL. He was playing behind John Elway.
So every quarterback that's drafted is in the starter, and
we got a there's a lot of pressure on these kids,
(22:36):
and of course in their minds and their minds they think, yeah, okay,
they think so. But how many times have we seen
quarterbacks like Baker Mayfield, quarterbacks like any of the Jacksonville
quarterbacks outside of Byron Leftwich and Trevor Lawrence, the Blake
(22:57):
Bortles and those guys be drafted high and end up
being backup quarterbacks more than they were starters.
Speaker 2 (23:10):
Of course, I mean it's in many ways it's the norm.
And we'll we'll get to that a little bit later
because there's more to discuss with with Trey Lance and
and and others like him. Again, I'm just I'm interested
in this because you look at that division and I'm
a firm believer that the Saints are going to win
it this year. And it's because they're the only team
(23:33):
that went out and addressed with any serious notion, addressed
the quarterback position. Uh, with now in mind, I'm not
going to say the Panthers didn't address the quarterback position.
They most certainly did.
Speaker 1 (23:46):
But not with now, not with this year in mind.
Speaker 2 (23:51):
I'm not expecting Bryce Young to come out and set
the world on fire, because that's that's not the way
it works. But more on that coming up in just second.
But right now, let's get what is trending on another
very very busy weekend. And welcome in our buddy Nick Cope.
Speaker 1 (24:08):
Hey, Nick, what's up?
Speaker 5 (24:09):
Guys, going to be with you, Happy to help out Steve.
He is currently at SOFI Stadium where he got the
Chargers in the Saints tied to ten late in the
second quarter. Jameis Winston has looked alright twelve of eighteen
abut twenty seven. Easton Stick has been a quarterback for
the Chargers eight of eighteen and an interception, So no
Derek Carr in this one to know, Justin Herbert as well.
(24:32):
Other NFL news reports say Aaron Rodgers will play for
the Jets in their preseason finale next Saturday against the Giants.
Colts coach Shane Steiken said running back Jonathan Taylor will
travel with the team to.
Speaker 1 (24:43):
Philadelphia next week.
Speaker 5 (24:45):
Rams receiver Cooper KAlP is set to return to practice.
He's been dealing with a hamstring injury, but they will
get him back on the practice field this week. They've
got joint practices with the Broncos. Interesting story in Cincinnati
Bengals running back Joe Mixon declining to speak reporters in
his first practice since he was found not guilty in
an aggravated menacing case. Mixon did say he would be
(25:07):
boycotting questions from four specific reporters representing ESPN Sports illustrated,
the Cincinnati Inquirer and Pro Football Network for what Mixon
deemed as disrespectful behavior from those reporters. In baseball, he
got the MLB Literally Classic in Williams Poor going on
a four to zero lead for the Nationals over the
(25:29):
Phillies in the fifth inning finals. From earlier. In baseball,
the Mariners finished off a sweep of the Astro seven
to six. Seattle has won six in a row. Blue
Jays club five homers and attended to thumping of the
Reds Toronto, just a half game back of Seattle for
the final AL wildcard spot. Yankees have now lost eight
in a row, their longest losing streak since nineteen ninety five.
(25:50):
Red Sox got to go ahead ninth inning RBI double
from Justin Turner to win six to five. Giant salvage
their weekend against the Braves with a four to three win.
San Francisco still hold holding onto that second wild card spot.
Cubs edge Royals four to three. Chicago's got a one
game lead for the final NL wildcard spot. Twin shut
out the Pirates two to not Thing Brewers swept the
Rangers a six to two win.
Speaker 7 (26:12):
On Sunday.
Speaker 5 (26:12):
Max Scherzer moved into eleventh place on the career strikeout list.
But the Rangers have lost four straight and the Orioles
had seventeen hits in a twelve to one blowout of
the A's. We'll go to tennis quickly got the Cincinnati
Open going on the prelude to the US Open. A
dramatic match and Novak Djokovic comes back from a set
down and defeats Carlos Alcarez in a third set tie break.
(26:35):
Earlier this afternoon, you had American Coco Golf winning the
women's title. Now let's send it back. Mark Willard and
E from Saloon, Okayn.
Speaker 1 (26:44):
Great stuff. Appreciate you on that one April.
Speaker 2 (26:46):
Maybe it was because I just heard someone else say
it instead of just reading it myself. The Joe Mixon
story that Nick just talked about.
Speaker 1 (26:54):
I saw it earlier.
Speaker 2 (26:55):
Where he's going to shut out ESPN, Sports, Illustrated Cincinnati
and Whire and Pro Football Network for being disrespectful.
Speaker 1 (27:05):
All right, hold on for a freaking second. So Joe Mixon.
Speaker 2 (27:15):
Would like to shut people out, in other words, not
give them a second chance or a chance to explain
themselves because they were disrespectful.
Speaker 1 (27:32):
Okay, there's two things about this.
Speaker 2 (27:36):
First of all, I can't stand it when people use
their words to ask for respect the second you do it.
Just my opinion, yes, sound pathetic. You don't ask for respect,
you just earn it. It's just there. I can go
(27:56):
to bed tonight like many of you did in LA
and say I'd like there to be sudden tomorrow, but
it's either just gonna be there or it's not.
Speaker 1 (28:06):
Asking for it doesn't.
Speaker 2 (28:08):
Do a damn thing. Respect is earned. It is something
that people want to give you because of what they
view and what they experience. Now that's one side of it.
The second part of it is obvious. You already know
what I'm gonna say before I say it. How disgusting
(28:30):
is it for someone like Joe Mixon, with what he's
been through in his life to tell other people you
step out a line. I'm gonna shut you out because
if that's the way he thinks it should be handled,
then the NFL should have never let him in in
the first place, because what he did in his past
(28:52):
is literally the most disrespectful thing that you can do
on planet Earth. That bothers me that Joe doesn't like
it when somebody steps out of line, as he's now
dealing with.
Speaker 1 (29:06):
His third legal situation in his career.
Speaker 3 (29:13):
Stupid is what stupid does, Okay. And when you're a
public figure and you do some things that you shouldn't
do and they have legal ramifications, then you consistently do
those things, then each offense, your skin gets thinner and thinner, and.
Speaker 1 (29:41):
You can't.
Speaker 3 (29:43):
Criticize people for being disrespectful to you when they're talking
about the things that you've done that are disrespectful. No
reporter puts you in any of those situations. Even going
back to college, No reporter told you to do any
(30:06):
of those things. What there can do is they can
give their opinion and then they can report on the case,
and if you don't like it, then change the behavior.
Like you said, this is the third situation he's had
to deal with.
Speaker 1 (30:28):
With the law.
Speaker 3 (30:32):
Coming out of college, didn't even know if it was
gonna get drafted or be in the league. Altercation at
a bar hit a young woman. So you don't get
to have it both ways. You don't get to burn
(30:53):
up at the house and then complain because they came
and talked about how you burned the house up.
Speaker 1 (31:02):
Well, why don't you just you know, let me live.
I don't like how you.
Speaker 3 (31:07):
Well, you standing in the middle of the living room
with a can of gasoline and some matches.
Speaker 1 (31:11):
Brother, we're going to talk about it.
Speaker 3 (31:16):
You gotta be able to control yourself, and you got
to pass when you were a kid coming out of
CAI as a young man, he made a mistake.
Speaker 1 (31:28):
Well, now you.
Speaker 3 (31:28):
Can't be a grown man and continue to make mistakes
and expect people not to talk about it. Don't blame
the media. People have their own opinions and they're going
to report things based on the facts that they have,
(31:51):
and they're feeling about those facts. I can promise you
you're not gonna like it all.
Speaker 1 (31:58):
Now.
Speaker 3 (31:58):
I don't know if that's a breach of the media
code of conduct where he can exclude not. This may
cost him some money because from what I know, you
as a player, aren't allowed to do that. If you're
requested for interviews, then you got to go do the interview.
(32:24):
You can't walk in and be like, oh, I'm not
talking to him. So hey, man, if you create situations,
you got to live in them. You really do disrespectful.
Speaker 2 (32:41):
I'm on Joe Mixon's Wikipedia page, the legal issues portion.
Speaker 1 (32:47):
I have to.
Speaker 2 (32:48):
Scroll in order to read it all. It doesn't fit
all on one screen. So if I not disrespect I
understand the background of Joe Mixon. I understand the allegations.
I know that that there are allegations that that are
(33:08):
racial slur was used by a group of women potentially
before the day after his eighteenth birthday that he broke
her face. I understand that. And you can have any
feeling that you want about it. Two people are allowed
to be wrong at the same time.
Speaker 1 (33:25):
Yeah, it's consequences for every action, right, Yeah, Like.
Speaker 2 (33:30):
Like this, this man is making millions of dollars and
has been welcomed into the Bengals organization and the National
Football League and uh and everybody this weekend in the
third or fourth round of their draft will say, Joe,
I'll take it, Joe mixing and life is is that
And because someone's got opinions about a Wikipedia page of
(33:52):
legal issues that I can't fit on one screen, that makes
them disrespectful. There are four different items listed here, starting
with when he broke the woman's face at age eighteen,
which people will say as a kid.
Speaker 1 (34:05):
It's also not a kid, not a kid, So.
Speaker 2 (34:11):
Yach I don't know what else to say about Joe
Mix and Joe Mixon should be cruising around in life,
thankful every single day and everybody he comes into contact
with that he has been welcomed into the league. That's
my opinion on Joe. We're in the tire Raq dot

More to say on that NFC South the Tampa Bay
quarterback situation. We'll go through all the NFC win totals
next hour and get to one of our own, one
of our brethren here at Fox Sports Radio that said,
within the last few years, potentially the worst draft pick
(35:00):
that's ever happened in the history of the NFL took place.
We'll talk about all of it coming up next on
Fox Sports Radio. All right, we're live in the tire
Rack dot Com studios with all kinds of stuff just teed.
Speaker 1 (35:15):
Up and ready to go, just like a on a
Hammer mix right now, Oaktown Touch and this is you
can't touch.
Speaker 2 (35:28):
Remember when he rebirthed the first time and took over
the Atlanta Falcons sideline?
Speaker 1 (35:32):
You remember that?
Speaker 2 (35:34):
Yeah, I mean that's a Bay Area boy right there.
He grew up as an Oakland A's bat boy. And uh,
I think it was because mainly the presidence of Dion.
Speaker 1 (35:45):
Man. He just struck.
Speaker 2 (35:47):
He was like he was super cool. Then he got
ripped by the hip hop community. And then Dion went
to the Falcons and Hammer showed up on the sideline
and too legit to quit and it was like a rebirth.
Speaker 3 (36:01):
Man hammer Man, Yeah, tackle ball, commercials, cereal everything.
Speaker 1 (36:08):
Yeah. Oh he's a sellout.
Speaker 2 (36:12):
Watch what you do when somebody shows up at your
door with that offer.
Speaker 1 (36:18):
I never got that man.
Speaker 2 (36:19):
In music, how come if a song ends up on
a commercial orders sellout and the song is dead?
Speaker 1 (36:26):
Why? Why?
Speaker 2 (36:28):
Like I was watching one of those old VH one
behind the music deals one.
Speaker 1 (36:32):
Time, and I don't even remember what the band was, but.
Speaker 2 (36:35):
They're like, look, man, you could say that we sold out.
But when some corporation calls and basically what they're saying
is we'd like to use your song and in exchange
will put your child.
Speaker 1 (36:48):
Through college, both of them like, yes, how about yes?
Sell out? My gosh, people offer you money, you.
Speaker 2 (36:57):
Say yes, well you're not not not no matter what.
But you know what I'm saying, like breaking the law
over here.
Speaker 1 (37:06):
Broke thank you? Oh live golfers sellouts?
Speaker 3 (37:15):
I mean yeah, okay, now everybody's lived golfers.
Speaker 2 (37:20):
Yeah, you turn it down, you turn it down. I
can't believe he took a hundred million. You can't believe
he took a hundred million dollars? That's your contention?
Speaker 1 (37:32):
Is it that hard to believe?
Speaker 2 (37:34):
It's really not, it's really not. Well what kind of
a face would you use at a person who's like, so,
they offered me a hundred mil. But yeah, just couldn't
do it. I don't know if we could be friends, man,
Let yeah you did what unless it was something in
ethical right, then it's like I get it. Well, many people,
(37:57):
many people would make me. I mean, there you go.
I know, I know many people feel this is unethical.
My well, because they're you know, Saudi government money to
make money.
Speaker 1 (38:12):
Well, thank you, thank you.
Speaker 2 (38:13):
I would like you to so all the other governments
are clean? Is that what I'm to be told?
Speaker 1 (38:18):
Thank you? That's all I'm saying. Anyway, glad you're with
us tyrack dot com Studios.
Speaker 2 (38:26):
We'll get to that draft pick in just a second,
real quick. I was watching a lot of baseball today.
I don't know how familiar are with it. Do you
ever watch you watch a lot of ball and watch
Angel Hernandez ever behind the plate?
Speaker 1 (38:40):
Never seen this happen?
Speaker 2 (38:42):
No, you don't even do like, no, you don't watch
them or I mean you know what I'm getting at right?
Speaker 1 (38:48):
Yeah, good lord? What happened? Why?
Speaker 2 (38:54):
Why are baseball umpires like their like ten year track teachers?
Speaker 8 (39:02):
The performance doesn't matter? But just like no, why why
can something not be done? He misses like every pitch.
It's complete insanity.
Speaker 1 (39:16):
Watching him umpire its wild. I don't get it. At
least be talking about it. When the book is written
on why they switch the robot of this will be
the first chapter.
Speaker 2 (39:36):
They are keeping Angel Hernandez around so they've got someone
to put on the cover.
Speaker 1 (39:43):
That's he's on the cover of the book. It's just incredible.
Speaker 2 (39:50):
It'll drive you, I mean if you don't, if you
don't just laugh at it, it'll drive you absolutely nuts
watching him call balls and strikes. Absolutely incredible. All right,
smart with ay from salam As. We said, glad you
are with us this evening. Thankful and hope you're safe
(40:10):
and warm and sound and all that wherever you are.

Speaker 1 (40:58):
Be yet it. He's our mutual friend.
Speaker 2 (41:02):
He is none other than Rich Ornberger, Fox Sports Radio's
own former co host of Mine and offensive lineman brethren
of yours.
Speaker 1 (41:10):
And look, we've.
Speaker 2 (41:13):
Talked about the forty nine er quarterback situation. Who hasn't
Ritz said something interesting though. I was watching a video
that he and Fox Sports Radio put together from the
last forty eight hours, and he basically said that the
forty nine ers have done such a good job in
pivoting from.
Speaker 1 (41:32):
What normally would be a fireable offense.
Speaker 2 (41:38):
Now, everybody has their opinions on Trey Lance.
Speaker 1 (41:43):
It is very emotional.
Speaker 2 (41:45):
And hot here in the Bay Area with regard to
whether he's had a fair chance, whether the discussion about
him is fair, unfair, or what have you. I think
there's some fair points on both sides, which I'll hold
for just a second. So I don't want this to
sound like Rich or anyone else for that matter, is
(42:08):
saying that Trey Lance is never going to be good
in his careers over and he's a bust.
Speaker 1 (42:13):
That's not even the point. Forget Trey and his career
for a.
Speaker 2 (42:17):
Second and instead simply look at a football team that
gathered three years worth of first round draft assets and
put them all into one player, and that player is
not playing for them, and they are now willfully deciding
that that player does not play for them, he's not
(42:39):
supposed to play for them, and he probably won't even
play for them if the guy in front of him
gets hurt, because they're two guys in front of him.
So it appears from that perspective, when you quote unquote
as a coach and a GM hit your wagon too
a player and it goes that way, that's normally a
(42:59):
fireble offense. Forty nine ers have recovered by finding other
production and success into the playoffs. But first and foremost,
what's your reaction to that that what Kyle Shanahan and
John Lynch did with Trey Lance in the NFL is
normally a fire ruble offense.
Speaker 1 (43:19):
I mean, I would agree with that.
Speaker 3 (43:21):
Very few gms and coaches survive a miss like that,
especially when you trade up to get somebody and you
give away so much.
Speaker 1 (43:32):
Future capital.
Speaker 3 (43:34):
You gotta remember, NFL first round draft picks runt like
NBA first round draft picks. You know, those are premium.
You can find Hall of Fame starters, you can find
them in any realm. But those first round picks majority
of the time turn out to be year one starters.
Speaker 1 (43:58):
There are more busts in.
Speaker 3 (43:59):
The first round in any other round because of the
notion of first round draft picks should be ready to play,
especially top ten draft picks. If you move up to
get a quarterback, you should hope you do the right
thing and you get one. But the Bears did it.
(44:20):
Matt Naggy, right, yep, Matt Naggy did it. It didn't work.
He went up to grab Mitchell Trubisky. Nobody it was
on no one's radar. He was on no one's radar.
They really could.
Speaker 1 (44:34):
Have waited and got him.
Speaker 3 (44:37):
Didn't work out for Matt Naggy or the GM And
so what the forty nine ers did, Yes, you gave
up so much future capital for someone who was beyond
the project and he still may very well be a
tremendous quarterback in the league. The difference is the forty
(45:01):
nine ers were not in the place of rebuilding to
let this young man learn on the go. It is
very difficult for you to draft Most good teams aren't
in that position or can't get to that position to
draft a quarterback. So it's very difficult for a player
(45:24):
to develop, a young quarterback to develop when the team
is ready to win now, because your leash is so short. Yep,
it's very short. And if you get hurt anywhere in there.
It's been two years, he's had two separate injuries, it's like, okay,
we got to keep this thing, we got to keep
this train going when we've seen Remember he's the starter
(45:47):
Week one last year. Granted it was a month soon
in Chicago, but it was very underwhelming, then came out,
underperformed again, got hurt, and the train keeps moving. It
is a player's job to continue to run and catch
(46:11):
up to the train. The train won't stop. The train's
not stopping for you.
Speaker 1 (46:17):
No no, no, no no.
Speaker 3 (46:19):
The train's not gonna stop. It's not gonna pull into
the station and allow you to step on. When you're
on a team that's Super Bowl or bust, that thing
is that's not only a train, that's a bullet train,
and you gotta be ready to go. These are metaphors
I'm using, but you literally have to be in a
(46:41):
in a position to step right in, learn, understand, and.
Speaker 1 (46:47):
Be willing to whatever you do.
Speaker 3 (46:55):
Grab onto that train, and and and and hitch on
and at the quarter a position, you got to drive
a train. So not only do you have to get
on it, you have to somehow get on it. You
got to drive that thing at that speed. And that's
difficult to do and you don't have a lot of time.
They're not going to give you a lot of opportunity
to do that because they're trying to win. They're trying
(47:20):
to win. They thought they had something, they don't. Now
they got something again, and you know, but they so
hey man, look that's how they survived because they continue
to win.
Speaker 1 (47:31):
Yep, yep.
Speaker 2 (47:34):
What's wild though, now is that unless something unforeseen happens, and.
Speaker 1 (47:41):
Seemingly it always does, especially with them.
Speaker 2 (47:44):
Right, but unless a very certain set of circumstances unfold,
then Trey Lance is never going to be the starting
quarterback for the forty nine ers. So again, if we
separate his future, let's say he goes somewhere else in
a year and actually has a career, whether it's a
great one, a good one, a sustainable one, something in between,
(48:05):
whatever whatever it is. But even if that happens, even
if Trey Lance becomes a QB one, somewhere. If he
doesn't do it with the forty nine ers, does it
go down as one of the worst, if not the
worst draft moves in the history of the league.
Speaker 1 (48:27):
It's not JaMarcus Russell was pretty bad. But it's three
first rounds. It's three first rounds.
Speaker 2 (48:38):
And so again I'm trying to remove anything personally directed
at Trey here and just look at it from the
perspective of the team.
Speaker 1 (48:46):
They they used.
Speaker 2 (48:48):
As many rounds, as many first rounds on him as
games that they got back in return.
Speaker 3 (49:00):
Yeah, they didn't get They didn't get the return. They
didn't get the return of.
Speaker 2 (49:05):
The ROI has got to be there with the worst
things we've ever seen.
Speaker 3 (49:09):
No, Yeah, but look, I want Trey to understand that
this isn't the end of his story. Look at Brett
farrv was the second round draft pick. He lasted one
year in Atlanta and went on to be one of
the all time greats.
Speaker 1 (49:31):
So, you know, I.
Speaker 3 (49:36):
Don't know what it is with Trey Lance. I know
he hasn't played a lot of football, and even more
so in practices because when you're hurt, you're hurt, so
you don't even get those practice reps running the scout
team learning all of that. So, first off, this young
(49:57):
man has to stay healthy. Second off, he has to
take huge strides and understand that this is a business.
Stop reading what the people say. San Francisco may not
be your spot. Don't hold on to it, don't hold
on to it. Don't feel like you're a failure. Don't
(50:18):
use the narrative. I didn't get an opportunity. Just take it,
learn from it, and move forward. Because if you hold
on to how people see you, it won't allow you
to get to the next destination and progress because you
always be looking over your shoulder.
Speaker 2 (50:37):
I just don't understand why two things cannot both be
acknowledged as true. Number One, Trey lancewers as you just
put it, his story is not complete yet. He has
not played a ton of NFL football, and so to
write him off today and call him a bust and
(50:59):
say you've enough and his career is never going to
be anything is incredibly premature.
Speaker 1 (51:08):
True.
Speaker 2 (51:10):
However, here's something that's starting to get to me, because
you hear a lot of people give the man a chance.
He's barely played football.
Speaker 1 (51:25):
You know where I'm going.
Speaker 2 (51:27):
Stop with the he's barely played football. Okay, brock Purdy.
Speaker 1 (51:34):
And I know about a four year starter.
Speaker 2 (51:37):
Mark great as if that just makes people good in
the NFL. Well, if you went to college, then you're
good when you get to the NFL. No, No, that's
not how it works. One of Trey's biggest problems is
that somebody who's the exact same age as him, who
(51:57):
came in last year and what isn't even getting reps
in training camp. Okay, walked in, snapped a finger and produced.
You talk about Trey Lance's lack of opportunity because of injury.
Speaker 1 (52:14):
The injuries have always happened in season.
Speaker 2 (52:17):
This is now training camp three, and he's never been
fully hurt and unable.
Speaker 1 (52:24):
To go in training camps.
Speaker 2 (52:26):
He was ready to go as a rookie and under
Jimmy g last year, QB one reps starter training camp,
this year training camp.
Speaker 1 (52:38):
This idea, I've never heard this.
Speaker 2 (52:40):
Before in professional sports, where somebody looks at a highly
touted player three years in and goes, we gotta give
it time. You've got to give it time. I will
totally hear you. If you tell me he's not had
enough games to write him off, that's fine. Put the
(53:05):
number three overall pick three years later. Wow, we have
to give it time.
Speaker 1 (53:14):
I'm sorry.
Speaker 2 (53:15):
It's not that this sport doesn't work that way. You
don't get picked top five and three years later have
people go, yeah, I haven't, haven't had I don't. I
don't know how we can even have an opinion. Yet,
Yes you can, Yes you can. His career can still
have a lot left, and I can I can kindly
and confidently say right now this has not gone well
(53:39):
and should be further along.
Speaker 3 (53:41):
Oh, without a doubt. When you see the progression of
other first round quarterbacks. I mean, this is year three, correct.
Speaker 1 (53:54):
This is year three. This is year three, and we've
all made up.
Speaker 2 (53:58):
We've all made up our mind on Zach Wilson, picked
right in front of him. We've all got opinions on
mac Jones. We've decided that Trevor Lawrence was great and
he went through Urban Meyer.
Speaker 1 (54:09):
As a rookie.
Speaker 3 (54:12):
You got to bring something to the table that your
team and others can latch onto. When you don't do that,
it is your responsibility as a professional athlete to bring
something to the table. The higher you are in the draft,
(54:34):
the more you must bring to the table. That is
the fact of the matter. Now you sitting here feeling
like you didn't get the opportunity you needed, or you
didn't get a chance, or any naysayers that they need
to give him a chance.
Speaker 1 (54:52):
He got a chance, and.
Speaker 3 (54:53):
A chance is like everybody else, you have to bring
something to the table. You have to be like Justin
Fields as a good example, that awful, right, he's had
awful seasons. Bears haven't done anything. He has more leeway
because they weren't built. Their roster itself was awful, probably
(55:16):
one of the worst in the International Football League.
Speaker 1 (55:19):
Yep.
Speaker 3 (55:20):
So he's had time to be bad and make mistakes,
get those corrected as the team is growing. This is
year what for Justin Fields?
Speaker 1 (55:31):
This is three. Guess what they're saying.
Speaker 3 (55:34):
Guess what they were saying with Jalen Hurts at the
beginning of year three. Mm hmm, this is it now.
If you haven't done enough to stay in a position
to advance in year three, brother, you got to look
in the mirror. You got to look in the mirror.
(55:57):
You had all the offensive weapons you can possibly handle.
If you can't get them the ball or have a
firm grasp of the offense, it's a you it's not them,
it's not Shanahan, it's not John.
Speaker 1 (56:16):
It's a you thing. We have to take ownership as
professional athletes. For us.
Speaker 3 (56:22):
I beat somebody out my rookie year as a seventh
round draft pick to start on a super Bowl caliber team.
Speaker 1 (56:30):
And where did they make that evaluation in training camp?
Thank you?
Speaker 3 (56:35):
The last preseason game he started, I played, the second,
he played, the third, I played the fourth. Whoever played,
we were told this before the game. Whoever plays the
best will start next week in Carolina Opening Day.
Speaker 1 (56:52):
That's it. Nothing was given. I was trying to make
the team and starting. Yep, it was earned. All right.
Speaker 2 (57:04):
Much more on this because, by the way, we started
this conversation with something our buddy Rich Hornberger said, he
tweeted something else.

tape yet. I do know this, I do know this.
Perdy came out and he looked like Perdy. Trey Lance
had a lot of the second half duty and looked
much better. Not perfect by any stretch, but much better
(58:22):
than he did against the Raiders the week before. Sam
Donald I have not reviewed yet, but for the most part,
it sounds like the reviews on Sam were that he
was like, you know, put a tone.
Speaker 1 (58:34):
To it good. It didn't you know, it wasn't like amazing.
He didn't do anything wrong either.
Speaker 2 (58:40):
So the Rivers comment made by our guy Rich Hornberger
a reference to something that Kyle Shanahan recently said on
a podcast which was that had the forty nine ers
somehow made it through the Eagles and into the super
Bowl and Perdy was a no go and Garoppolo wasn't ready,
they were gonna call Philip Rivers, and Philip Rivers was
(59:03):
just gonna sign and play the Super Bowl. It would
have been the most amazing story ever. It would have
been incredible. Philip finally makes the Super Bowl?
Speaker 1 (59:12):
Are you kidding? Incredible?
Speaker 2 (59:18):
But Philip, who's on his seventy eighth child, I believe
they just had it.
Speaker 1 (59:28):
Do something. Man, we need we need some other things
to get into Philip is forty one.
Speaker 2 (59:40):
And break seriously, seriously forty one years old, and and
Rich says that's still their best option behind Brock Party.
Speaker 1 (59:54):
What's your reaction to that.
Speaker 3 (59:56):
I think Sam Donald, you know, Sam Brono is a
viable option in that offense with those weapons, Philip Rivers,
it's too removed from the game.
Speaker 1 (01:00:10):
Once.
Speaker 3 (01:00:10):
You can't sit out like that and income pop back.
No matter how good you've been, it just doesn't work
like that. Football doesn't work like that, especially when you
have as many miles on that arm as Philip Rivers does, right,
that's just like someone said, Eli Manning could come back
and they can't even run fast enough to catch up
(01:00:31):
to the train. Now, that was if they would have
somehow miraculously won that game at the NFC Championship Game
and found themselves in the Super Bowl, then that's a
hell marriage. You had nothing else, But you don't go
into the season, you know, even thinking about that like that,
you got three guys on the roster, that everything else
(01:00:56):
being perfect, God forbid, something happened to the Brock party again.
Sam Donald can step in and then you know, eventually
you're gonna have to just put him out there, Trey Lance, and.
Speaker 1 (01:01:10):
Go down with the ship. You gotta let him fits.
Speaker 3 (01:01:12):
Well, the thing is they don't. The least is so
sure because they don't. They can't afford to give up
two three games, right when isn't that going? It's like, oh, okay,
we got to make a switch. So if you're the
last option, then you got all the time in the world.
Speaker 2 (01:01:28):
Well, I like, I'm not convinced. I have no idea
who's going. It sounds like Donald is in the lead
for QB two. It sounds like that's what the forty
nine ers want. I don't know that it's gonna end
up going that way. They've still got another preseason game
to play, And even if it does go that way,
it doesn't mean it won't change by the time something
happens if it does. But I'm a believer in two
(01:01:50):
things in this particular situation. A I'm a believer that
players can look different with different surroundings. So as much
as the world wants to talk about whether or not
you're giving up on Trey Lance, I haven't fully given
up on Sam Donald.
Speaker 1 (01:02:05):
Like I don't start just as a viable player in
the NFL.
Speaker 2 (01:02:11):
I'm very curious to see what he looks like with
an offensive coach.
Speaker 1 (01:02:21):
I am, especially this one.
Speaker 2 (01:02:23):
I'm very curious to see if that doesn't look different
than what we've seen to this point in his career,
which is way too turnover heavy.
Speaker 3 (01:02:34):
Remember when David Carr left Houston, he became a good,
solid backup in New York for a long time. That's
Sam Donald. He can step in, he can fill in.
(01:02:54):
He can get you a win or two three, depending
on the talent on your team. But that's that's it.
That's that's what and that's what you want from a
backup quarterback.
Speaker 1 (01:03:09):
That's why they're a backup.
Speaker 3 (01:03:11):
You don't need Sam Donald to come in and and
and try to regain his form and be the starter
for the next ten years. And it's not gonna happen
because after a certain point, you are the player you are.
Speaker 1 (01:03:28):
This is Sam's what third team. Third team.
Speaker 3 (01:03:33):
Sam had a lot of opportunity to keep himself a
starting in the National Football League.
Speaker 1 (01:03:41):
It doesn't work. It doesn't work. He didn't do it. No,
I'm with you, there.
Speaker 3 (01:03:47):
With there, I'm not saying that he doesn't have value.
There's no value. He definitely has value well.
Speaker 2 (01:03:53):
And the trade thing and again I don't know if
he's QB three or or what happens with Trey Lance,
but uh, for most NFL teams, if you lose your
starter and your backup in an NFL season.
Speaker 1 (01:04:05):
Your year is cooked already anyway.
Speaker 2 (01:04:08):
So the forty nine ers are actually in an advantageous
position that if it did fall that way, there's still
a storyline and something to incentivize this.
Speaker 1 (01:04:19):
Whole thing to go.
Speaker 2 (01:04:22):
Like, if it falls to that again, any other NFL
team gets to QB three, their year is cooked.
Speaker 1 (01:04:28):
If the forty nine ers get to QB three the.
Speaker 2 (01:04:32):
Well, or even if they don't, it's like, well, okay,
here it is your chance. I don't know if they
get their but here's your chance, and let's see if
you can make good on it. So it's the most
controversial quarterback situation in the NFL, but it might end
up in some ways like no, I wouldn't trade a
(01:04:55):
Mahomes or an Allen for this situation, but the depth
of what's going on there is actually a strength potentially.
Speaker 3 (01:05:08):
I look, they need it because we saw the wheels
fall off in the biggest game of the year for them,
and it.
Speaker 1 (01:05:17):
Was fast too.
Speaker 3 (01:05:18):
They had an opportunity in that game because Philly to
really win that game, and it did not work.
Speaker 1 (01:05:27):
Out for him. So they've stacked the day. They've stacked
the day.
Speaker 2 (01:05:37):
So have we because even when we lose Steve de Seger,
we get Nick Cope. So like an example of what
we're talking about right here at Fox Sports Radio going.
Speaker 5 (01:05:50):
On what's going well latest storm watch here for Hillary.
We all just got beeping notifications about flash flood warnings. Well,
at the same time, none of our satellite signals for
the televisions are working anymore. So that's the latest going
on here in terms of the storm, in terms of
sports going on the field, though, I just got a
(01:06:11):
picture here New Orleans leading the Chargers nineteen to ten
here early in the fourth quarter, moving on to Jay
Cayner now at quarterback, four New Orleans. We got one
baseball game about to wrap up Nationals on the verge
of closing out the Phillies four to one. That's the
MLB Literally Classic that is taking place in Williamsport, Pennsylvania.
(01:06:32):
NFL News reports, Hey Aaron Rodgers will make his debut
for the Jets in their preseason finale next Saturday against
the Giants. Colts coach Chane Steiken said running back Jonathan
Taylor will travel with the team to Philadelphia next week.
Rams receiver Cooper Kelp is set to return to practice.
He's been dealing with a hamstring injury. Bengals running back
Joe Mixon declining to speak to reporters in his first
(01:06:54):
practice since being found not guilty in an aggravated menacing case.
Mixon did say he would be boycotting questions from specific
reporters going forward for what he called disrespectful behavior. Finals
in baseball, Mariners finished off a sweep at the Astro
seven to six. Seattle's won six in a row. Blue
Jays stumped the Reds ten to two, Toronto, just a
(01:07:15):
half game backup Seattle for that final wildcard spot in
the AL. Yankees have now lost eight in a row,
their longest losing streak since nineteen ninety five. Red Sounds
beat him today six to five. Giants over the Braves
four to three, San Francisco, holding that second wild card
spot in the NL. Twin shut out the Pirates two
to nothing. Minnesota starter Dallas Kaikl carried a perfect game
(01:07:35):
into the seventh inning. Cubs edge the Royals four to three,
Chicago with one game lead for the final wild card spot.
Brewers swept the Rangers six to two. Rangers have now
lost four straight, and the Orioles had a twelve to
one blowout win against the A's Tennis at the Cincinnati Open,
Novak Djokovic won a grueling three set near four hour
(01:07:55):
battle against Carlos Alkaaz for the men's title. Earlier today,
American Oko Goff won the women's title. Finally, in golf,
Victor Hovelin won the BMW Championship with a course record
nine under sixty one to Serge Pascottie Scheffler and Matt Fitzpatrick.
Let's go back to Mark Willard and eat from saloon.
Speaker 2 (01:08:15):
Okay, Nick, great stuff, Thank you very very much, appreciates you.
We are going to get to win totals across the NFC.
We'll do the NFC this week, the AFC next week
and allow that to kind of open up a conversation
about what we're thinking about some of these teams.
Speaker 1 (01:08:32):
Because I told you this, I told you this last week.
He from my laugh.
Speaker 2 (01:08:36):
Every year when we look at a big board of
the standings from last year and we make a couple
of tweaks based on some popular thoughts, and then poof,
that's it. We've all decided. We know exactly how this
is going to go. You know, I think in the
(01:08:56):
East it's the Bills with three viable challengers, in the
North it's the Bengals with two and a half viable challengers.
The South is the Jags and a bunch of junk. Again,
this is perception, not what I'm saying. And the West
belongs to the Chiefs and we'll see if the Chargers
and Broncos can can do their thing Niners win the West,
(01:09:19):
NFC South is a bunch of who cares. The Lions
will over overtake the Vikings in the North, the Eagles
will edge out the Cowboys in the East. And that's
this year's NFL season. Why are we even gonna play?
But what we all know is there's no way in
hell that that's the way it's actually.
Speaker 3 (01:09:40):
Gonna God no, unless you have the you know what
I mean, the sports almanac from Back to the Future.
Speaker 1 (01:09:48):
That Biff went back and found. Other than that, yeah,
good luck, good luck, good luck.
Speaker 2 (01:09:57):
So I would love to die ime in and learn
a little bit more about where you and I sit
in terms of what we do actually think are the
teams that maybe are being elevated a little bit too much,
and then vice versa, teams that have been dismissed that
could be viable options this year.
Speaker 1 (01:10:21):
So we'll do that coming up in a little bit.
Speaker 2 (01:10:24):
We're livingt the tyrack dot Com Studios want to take
the chance to remind everybody about the return of our
popular Saturday and Sunday pregame shows that are coming up here.
Speaker 1 (01:10:35):
As we said, real soon.
Speaker 2 (01:10:36):
Countdown to Kickoff, presented by bet MGM are coming back
this weekend, so be sure to tune into Fox Sports
Radio every Saturday and Sunday morning three hours before what
would be kickoff time from now all the way through
Super Bowl Sunday. So on Saturdays, great work by Brian
(01:10:56):
no Rich Ornberger, who's getting a hell of a lot
of run tonight. If you're listening, what's up my man?
Betting analyst Jared Smith as well walking you right up
to college football kickoffs and then on NFL Sundays, it's
no along with longtime NFL that Jeff Schwartz and professional
better crack Krackenberger Bill Krackenberger to lead you right up
(01:11:20):
to the early NFL kickoffs. You can listen to countdown
to kickoff weekend mornings right here on Fox Sports Radio
and the iHeartRadio app. Why do we have so many
former offensive linemen running around these parts?
Speaker 1 (01:11:32):
What's up with that?
Speaker 2 (01:11:33):
Man?
Speaker 1 (01:11:39):
You need them?
Speaker 2 (01:11:40):
Salaam salaam Ornberger, Schwartz, What do you think using the
Schwartz we have the best opinions.
Speaker 1 (01:11:48):
We y'all think you're smart, Well, we.
Speaker 3 (01:11:51):
Are smart, and statistically we're the smart if you if
you look at it with the smart as of the
team okay, just it's the position that relies on four
other people to make it go. So when you have that,
it's not an individual effort thing. Everyone has to be
(01:12:13):
on the same page, you know, I get it all
eleven on offense have to be on. But the receiver
not running the right route right has nothing to do
with the protection and opening up the holes and gaining
yards and you know, so we have to be on
the same page.
Speaker 2 (01:12:31):
That's why outside of yes, we have an opinion. You know,
do you know what else? So you may have opinions
outside of hockey. I've decided you're the most ego free
group in.
Speaker 1 (01:12:42):
Professional period two period because which makes sense. Of course,
it makes sense. Like your job is to protect other people.
That's our job.
Speaker 3 (01:12:53):
We are protecting to eat Yeah, any any did.
Speaker 1 (01:12:58):
You calorie cowt when you're in the league.
Speaker 3 (01:13:00):
I was a small lineman, so I you know, I
could eat anything. I never missed weight or never been
fine for missing when I got drafted. I was to
eighty five when I got to the league. I played
my first year in the league at two eighty five
at a right tackle.
Speaker 1 (01:13:19):
Yeah, that was It sounds fun. It sounds fun to
the rest of us.
Speaker 2 (01:13:22):
I don't know if it actually is the whole like
just constantly eating thing.
Speaker 3 (01:13:28):
No, but you you there was not as much nutrition
back then, so you pretty much could just eat what
you wanted.
Speaker 1 (01:13:37):
To eat fire away. Yeah.
Speaker 3 (01:13:39):
But we were all in shape though, right, we were
all physically fit with stomachs.
Speaker 2 (01:13:50):
Sounds fun, it really does. It sounds fun. I don't
know if it is, but let's dive into some NFC
wind totals here coming up next. Mark with It E
from Salama Fox Sports.
Speaker 1 (01:14:00):
Radio, Okay Live ti rack dot Com Studios from.
Speaker 2 (01:14:06):
Just Chicking In. I checked in off the top of
the show. Everybody in southern California is still okay.
Speaker 1 (01:14:10):
We're still good.
Speaker 2 (01:14:11):
Saw a picture, Okay, I just saw a picture of
Dodger Stadium and I'm like, you sure sure, but he's okay.
Speaker 1 (01:14:18):
It's it's the whole rain, man, It's a whole lot
of water and water right now, a lot of water.
We had a little earthquake earlier too.
Speaker 2 (01:14:28):
I know, I the Hurriques.
Speaker 1 (01:14:33):
H we're doubling up on us now, God, is that
what we're doing? Well? I mean right, yeah, yeah, I
like I don't know, I don't know if Earth is
still livable anymore. I'm not sure. Well, my kids are
still kids, so I know, brother, I know.
Speaker 2 (01:14:56):
But I'm just saying, doesn't feel like the last five
years just a pretty consistent message go away humans.
Speaker 3 (01:15:05):
Well, I mean, it will get out of here, it
will rid itself of something that's trying to kill it.
Speaker 1 (01:15:10):
So that's right, that's right.
Speaker 2 (01:15:14):
Things will normalize and uh and even out. And we
laughed so that so that we don't we don't, Lord, brother,
hurriquake in southic.
Speaker 1 (01:15:31):
What it is not a hurricane. I tell you what.
Speaker 3 (01:15:33):
I was in a hurricane in Houston, and that is not.
Well you've been there, old brother. Oh man, that's not
what you do. You remember the one that ripped the stadium,
the roof off the stadium.
Speaker 1 (01:15:44):
Oh yes, yeah, you were there.
Speaker 3 (01:15:47):
S mac dab in the middle of that one. Oh man, No, no, no.
When the power goes out, first of all, it's already
one hundred and ten outside, but when the power goes out,
it's now one hundred and twenty in side.
Speaker 1 (01:16:01):
Mm hmm.
Speaker 3 (01:16:03):
I saw people at Costco yesterday buying generators and I'm like,
what are y'all doing?
Speaker 2 (01:16:10):
Well, that's that has become the Pavlovian response to disaster
in America. Whenever the news is like, brace yourselves, sixty
five percent of our population goes I need to go
to Costa.
Speaker 3 (01:16:24):
Everybody's going, and I'm like, you will be able to
drive to get water.
Speaker 1 (01:16:30):
That's right.
Speaker 3 (01:16:33):
The store bombs isn't gonna close. It's not gonna be closed.
Speaker 2 (01:16:38):
Well, who knows if all the windows bust out, it
will I don't know. I don't know, but sometimes I
do dig that because that's not those things are not
normally most people don't wake up with those being their priorities.
Speaker 1 (01:16:52):
We should drink more.
Speaker 2 (01:16:53):
Water, but most people are like, I'm gonna have some
coffee and then a cocktail. But when when when it
goes down, man, people remember water. And then the same
with toilet paper. Nobody's excited about toilet paper until something
goes wrong, and then everybody gets really excited about toilet paper.
Speaker 1 (01:17:12):
Man.
Speaker 3 (01:17:13):
Real fact where it's crazy. I'm like, what are y'all
doing on this toilet paper? What you well, yeah, what
somebody should do?
Speaker 2 (01:17:24):
That story in the news like go to the person
went to Costco.
Speaker 3 (01:17:32):
Thirteen thousand pounds of toilet papers, sir.
Speaker 2 (01:17:36):
Now now that the storm has passed and it's just Monday,
and here you are with an absolute storage unit full
of toilet paper.
Speaker 1 (01:17:46):
What are your plans?
Speaker 3 (01:17:47):
Now, Well, you're always gonna be able, you're always gonna
need it, So I got.
Speaker 2 (01:17:57):
I don't want spider webs coming out of the toilet
paper w when you finally get to it. But anyway, yeah,
that's I've noticed that that's what people do. Water, toilet paper,
sometimes paper towels, and that's about it.
Speaker 1 (01:18:16):
I'm glad you're doing okay, let me know if the
power goes out.
Speaker 3 (01:18:21):
If it does, you won't you will you will know
me if it does you you'll definitely know.
Speaker 1 (01:18:28):
Ah uh uh aphrom, I'll know you're absolutely right. All right, man,
let's play around with this a little bit. Let's do it.
Speaker 2 (01:18:41):
Let's do right, Let's do some NFL and we can
just kind of we'll dive into it full bore here
in just a second. But if I just threw these
at you, you let me know what kind of what
kind of jumps out. I'll just give you NFC teams.
The Cowboys are are nine and a half. This is
(01:19:02):
your preseason bet over under win totals. The forty nine
Ers are at ten and a half. The Seahawks are
at eight and a half, the Falcons are at eight
and a half, the Bears eleven and a half. The
Falcons are at eight and a half. The Bears are
at seven and a half. Packers seven and a half,
Lions nine and a half, Vikings eight and a half,
(01:19:26):
Panthers seven and a half, Giant seven and a half,
Commanders six and a half, Cardinals four and a half,
Rams six and a half, Eagles eleven and a half,
that's the highest, Saints nine and a half, Buccaneers six
and a half. Those are the NFC win totals for
(01:19:50):
the upcoming season as they.
Speaker 1 (01:19:52):
Currently sit right now.
Speaker 2 (01:19:55):
So anything kind of jump out at you, you can
stir that around and your drink a little bit. Yeah,
uh huh okay, let's hear about it. We'll go through
all of these coming up next. Mark weather need from
Salam Fox Sports Radio.

it's just a straight NFL Sunday spilling out all over
(01:20:56):
your radio coming up three weeks from tonight. We are
full in the process of getting you ready for that.
I threw all the win totals out and because you
mentioned the Falcons first, in no particular order, let's go
to all of the NFC divisions and start with the
NFC South. As mentioned, the Falcons are sitting at eight
(01:21:21):
and a.
Speaker 1 (01:21:21):
Half for their win total. You said that stood out.
Why it's.
Speaker 3 (01:21:32):
I don't think I don't see them winning eight games?
Do you like, I don't I don't see I don't
know if they have. Well, when you look at that
division and it's a the division is up for grabs, Clearly,
the Saints are in a better position than any other team.
(01:21:57):
They actually have two quarterbacks that can play, that can
start right and any on any of these other teams.
But I just I feel like and and look the Falcons,
they have a favorable schedule, but I don't see them
(01:22:23):
winning eight games. Eight games is a lot of games
to win when you don't have the tools and the
team uh to get that done well.
Speaker 2 (01:22:33):
I mean, I think that the simplistic way of saying
what you're saying is there's only one team in the
division who has a quarterback we trust, yes, and and
and you look at the other three that that that
does not mean they're going to get poor quarterback play, but.
Speaker 1 (01:22:54):
It seems probable.
Speaker 2 (01:22:56):
I mean, you got you got one team who's who's
having a slap fight between Baker Mayfield and Kyle Trask.
You've got another team that went with the number one
overall pick in the draft.
Speaker 1 (01:23:07):
And so this will be his baby season, if you will.
Speaker 2 (01:23:11):
And then the team that we're talking about here, Look,
Desmond Ritter has now been there for a little bit.
I don't think that we've seen anything that brings about optimism.
But Ephraim, you tell me because the first thing I do,
and this goes with any spread, a win total of spread.
(01:23:31):
The first thing that goes through my head when something
stands out to you like that is why did they
put the number there? Yes, this is a multi billion
dollar industry here, and they didn't just huck a ball
at a velkrow board to come up with that number.
(01:23:54):
So if they're telling you that the Falcons are literally
sitting and they're at fifty to fifty each week, eight
and a half is the win total out of a
seventeen game schedule, I'm with you. On the surface, it
feels like they should be a sub five hundred team,
(01:24:14):
So why is the number there?
Speaker 1 (01:24:18):
The complete lack of faith in any other team in
the division? Right? They get to all play each other twice? Correct?
Speaker 2 (01:24:31):
I don't know, you know, but that's kind of my like,
that's my feeling on the Saints. The Saints are at
nine and a half, and I'm I'm all in on
the over because ten wins is not even what it
used to be in the NFL. It's kind of like
like you're ten wins, ten and seven. You're just like
kind of marginally barely above five hundred now in order
to win ten games, and they've got six games against
(01:24:53):
these other three teams that we just talked about, Like,
gotta think that they're going to.
Speaker 1 (01:24:57):
At least get four or five of those. And if
that's the case, gosh.
Speaker 2 (01:25:03):
With your remaining eleven games, all you got to do
is play five hundred and you're there.
Speaker 3 (01:25:10):
Yeah, I would I would see the Saints being over
there that being the playoff team in the NFC North.
I mean, excuse me, NFC South. It's just a it's
it's going to be what the it's going to be
what the NFC East East was. When teams who are
(01:25:32):
making the playoffs below five hundred, it's a division of parody.
Speaker 1 (01:25:43):
Uh.
Speaker 3 (01:25:43):
The interesting one for me is the NFC North in
those totals, what they have the Vikings.
Speaker 2 (01:25:51):
The Vikings are sitting at also eight and a half.
Speaker 1 (01:25:57):
Now that's interesting, the.
Speaker 2 (01:25:59):
Packers seven and a half, the Lions nine and a half,
and then the last team in that.
Speaker 1 (01:26:10):
The Bears. The last team in.
Speaker 2 (01:26:12):
That division is the Bears, and they are also at
seven and a half. Packers and Bears both at seven
and a half. So now I'm tempted to go over
on the Bears.
Speaker 1 (01:26:22):
I'm going over on the Vikings.
Speaker 2 (01:26:26):
I'll remember those Gosh, remember how quirky that was last year?
Speaker 1 (01:26:32):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (01:26:33):
They were I think they were thirteen and four and
had a negative point differential, and now they lose Dalvin
Cook and I don't know how much they did to
improve what I felt was one of the worst defenses
in the NFL.
Speaker 3 (01:26:49):
Yeah, but they're playing in a division now with no
Aaron Rodgers upstart Lions team with expectations now and a
Bears team that has, in his opinion, one of the
top five best running quarterbacks and justin field. So to me,
(01:27:12):
kirk Cousins, I would hang my hat on him more
than any other signal caller, including Jarrett Golf. I like
the Lions. I like them. They weren't able to stop
anybody defensively, having a defensive minded head coach, they weren't
able to stop anybody. So you you look at the
(01:27:35):
situation where I know the Vikings have had their issues,
but for whatever reason, kirk Cousins gets them across the line,
and I mean until the Lions take it. I mean
I would I would give the Vikings the over it
(01:27:56):
was they eight and a half. I would give them
over that eight.
Speaker 1 (01:27:58):
And a half.
Speaker 2 (01:28:00):
Before we dive too far into that one, I want
to you said something that perked my ears up when
we were still talking about the Atlanta Falcons.
Speaker 1 (01:28:09):
And if I.
Speaker 2 (01:28:11):
Name these teams, you'll know where I'm going with this,
right if I go, Okay, Philadelphia, Dallas, San Francisco, Detroit,
Kansas City, the Chargers, the Bengals, the Ravens, the Bills, and.
Speaker 1 (01:28:35):
The Dolphins.
Speaker 2 (01:28:36):
These are like what I just named, that is essentially
the top ten in terms of Vegas odds to win
the Super Bowl this year.
Speaker 1 (01:28:47):
That's the beef of the NFL.
Speaker 2 (01:28:50):
Do you know how many games the Atlanta Falcons have
against those ten teams.
Speaker 1 (01:28:57):
That actually might have named eleven? None?
Speaker 2 (01:29:03):
The Atlanta Falcons play that group one one time. One time.
The Falcons will go to Detroit Week three, Sunday, September
twenty fourth.
Speaker 1 (01:29:16):
That's it.
Speaker 2 (01:29:17):
Their schedule goes Carolina, Green Bay, Detroit, Jacksonville, Houston, Washington, Tampa, Tennessee, Minnesota, Arizona,
New Orleans, the Jets, Tampa, Carolina, Indy, Bears, Saints. So
that's the kind of dive where you go, why are
they at eight and a half? Well, that's probably why.
Speaker 1 (01:29:37):
It's pretty favorable there.
Speaker 2 (01:29:39):
There is like zero juggernaut, like the even the good
teams are like the Lions and the Jacks.
Speaker 1 (01:29:46):
You still got to be a throw ball though you
still got no I know, I'm not like I'm with you.
That's my institute too. It's hard to beat bad teams
in the NFL.
Speaker 2 (01:29:56):
I get it, I get it, but like there's you
know what I mean, The Falcons are not going to
end up on the other end of anybody's survivor pool
this year because nobody's looking at that and going well,
Washington will definitely get them in week six, eh, Sam Howell.
(01:30:18):
I mean they literally go the entire month of October
without facing a quarterback. And I don't mean that in
a disrespectful way, but like approven QB. They got Houston,
They'll got c. J. Stroud, then they got Sam Howell.
Then they've got the winner of Baker versus Kyle, and
then they finished with Tennessee and will Tannehill be benched
(01:30:39):
by then?
Speaker 1 (01:30:43):
Well, it's right there for the taking. Can they take it? Though?
Can they take it? All? Right?
Speaker 2 (01:30:52):
So give me this then, Falcons at eight and a half,
you're going under.
Speaker 1 (01:30:56):
I'm going under. Saints at night, go with you, Saints
at nine and a half, over and under over, I'll
go over. I'm with you.
Speaker 2 (01:31:07):
Also in Division Carolina Panthers over or under seven and.
Speaker 1 (01:31:12):
A half mm under under.
Speaker 2 (01:31:25):
I think I'm with you, Tampa Bay Bucks over under
six and a half under.
Speaker 1 (01:31:35):
Under.
Speaker 2 (01:31:38):
I think we have consensus. I'm in agreement with are
often wrong? Oh I'm sorry?
Speaker 1 (01:31:46):
Was that not? How was that not? How it was
supposed to finish the sentence? My bad?
Speaker 2 (01:31:51):

already dove. We were walking through some wind totals. We
dove into the NFC South. You took us over to
the NFC North. You're hot on the Vikings over the
(01:33:21):
eight and a half.
Speaker 1 (01:33:21):
Is that right? Yes? Yeah, I just same question, same
question that we had.
Speaker 2 (01:33:29):
Before with regard to the Falcons and the Vikings having
the same over under number.
Speaker 1 (01:33:38):
The question is.
Speaker 2 (01:33:39):
Why the Vikings just went thirteen and four not that
much change. Sure, Dalvincook is out, but why would the
Vikings be so low? To me, that's one of those
where I'm gonna buck against the system because that feel
(01:34:00):
like they're trying to sucker you in.
Speaker 1 (01:34:02):
I'll go under on Minnesota this year.
Speaker 2 (01:34:06):
I'll go under on Minnesota and it ushers Kirk Cousins
onto a new roster next year.
Speaker 3 (01:34:12):
All right, because looking at their schedule, you got the Eagles,
the Vikings, I mean the Eagles, the Chargers.
Speaker 2 (01:34:19):
I was gonna say, they play themselves and they were
really well for them.
Speaker 1 (01:34:23):
Yep, the Bengals, the Lions, so you know, yep. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:34:37):
So they're matched up with the AFC West, and then
their extra game is Cincinnati. You know how everybody used
to be matched up with one division in the other
conference every year, Yes, and that is.
Speaker 1 (01:34:47):
Still the case.
Speaker 2 (01:34:48):
But because of the seventeenth game, you get another one
thrown in there, and that just happens to be a
roadie to Cincinnati in December. That's a tough one, right, which, man,
So that means you've already they got to play the Chief,
they got to play the Chargers, they got to play
the Broncos.
Speaker 1 (01:35:04):
As you mentioned, both Philadelphia and the.
Speaker 2 (01:35:06):
Forty nine Ers are are part of the conference schedule.
Speaker 1 (01:35:13):
So it is a trip to well Lambeau.
Speaker 2 (01:35:18):
Obviously they're always going to do that, but so is
So you've got your games with Green Bay, Detroit, Chicago.
Speaker 1 (01:35:25):
They got to take on the Saints.
Speaker 2 (01:35:28):
They do get the Falcons and the Panthers and Tampa.
Speaker 1 (01:35:32):
This Detroit. It's a lot interesting.
Speaker 2 (01:35:36):
Can talk to me because they're in that division nine
and a half.
Speaker 3 (01:35:40):
There's a lot of there's a lot of hope on
the horizon for them.
Speaker 1 (01:35:44):
There's a lot of hope. And sure.
Speaker 3 (01:35:50):
Is there more hope now than when Matthew Stafford was there?
It was there and Calvin Johnson, you know, Megatron, Like,
what is there more hope now? Because Matthew did take
them to the playoffs one time? So I'm trying to try.
I'm trying to gauge. Is Jared answer? Yes, Stafford. Do
(01:36:13):
they have anybody on that team offensively better than Calvin Johnson?
Speaker 1 (01:36:18):
No?
Speaker 2 (01:36:18):
But I'll tell you why the hope is higher now,
and it's because of something you mentioned about ten minutes ago.
And this is the first season since as long as
I can remember ever where the Packers weren't, where the
Packers weren't facing you with farvar Rogers, the Lions aren't.
It's not just hope for them being good. They are
the favorite. They are weird. It is the weird thing
(01:36:41):
to say in the division exactly.
Speaker 1 (01:36:44):
But it is.
Speaker 2 (01:36:44):
Don't you think that's why? Like, no matter what's been
going on with that roster in Green Bay for a while, Like,
we're a quarterback driven NFL fans society, and so to
favor the Lions over the Packers for the last fifteen
years has.
Speaker 3 (01:37:00):
Been ridiculous would be lunacy, right, But here we are. Yeah,
it's a you know, it's interesting thing. I'm really looking
forward to see if Dan Campbell and that team can
take that next step and really be considered a viable
(01:37:22):
option because look, you mentioned them in the teams in
those ten eleven teams to vie for a championship. Yep,
that seems to be a lot of pressure from a
team who hasn't been able to get it right for
a long time pretty much. Ever, So how does that
(01:37:47):
shake out now with the expectations of it all? Everything
changes when you have When there's expectations, people expect you
to win, they're not surprised when you win.
Speaker 1 (01:38:01):
I just looked it up.
Speaker 2 (01:38:03):
They are the ninth favorite in the NFL to win
the Super Bowl.
Speaker 1 (01:38:07):
Wow.
Speaker 2 (01:38:09):
Their current odds are tied with the Miami Dolphins at
plus two thousand, tied for ninth, just ahead of the Jags, Chargers, Seahawks, Saints,
and Browns and just narrowly behind the Ravens and the Jets.
And then I think everybody sort of knows who the
(01:38:29):
top six are, the top three in each conference Chiefs, Eagles, Bills, Bengals,
forty nine, Ers, Cowboys, those are the top six, and
the Cowboys are actually significantly the.
Speaker 1 (01:38:41):
Sixth of those six.
Speaker 3 (01:38:46):
Man.
Speaker 1 (01:38:46):
So yeah, that's what they're being asked to do.
Speaker 2 (01:38:49):
And I'm with you. I'm with you. They look great
at the end of last year. I know they were
exciting for people's fantasy teams. They were on hard knocks,
like the world got to know them. And I do
think there's a tax there. In other words, we favor
things that we know, and we got to know the
Lions and they went on a run. It does not
(01:39:11):
necessarily translate.
Speaker 1 (01:39:12):
I will tell.
Speaker 2 (01:39:13):
You the biggest question for me for the Lions this
year is the thing that most casual fans can't answer. Like,
we can sit here this time of year and I
can go well, golf was reliable. A'man ross Saint Brown
leads a talented group of receivers were interested in Jamiir
(01:39:33):
Gibbs as they change the backfield. The backfield goes from
DeAndre Swift and Jamal Williams now to Jamiir Gibbs and
David Montgomery. But listen to everything I'm saying, it's all
on the offensive side of the ball. Nobody knows a
damn thing about defense. There's a few things we know
(01:39:54):
or like. The Niners are good, the Jets are good.
I think the Bills are going to be good. And
most of the AFC North like that. That's you, that's
but we don't know. Aiden Hutchinson good player, really good, young,
exciting player. But that defense was awful last year.
Speaker 1 (01:40:11):
It was really bad. Man and and and.
Speaker 2 (01:40:14):
Unless they're less, if they're markedly better, then I'm all
in on this team.
Speaker 1 (01:40:19):
But if they're not, then they're just fun. That's all
they are. That's not necessarily good. They're fun. You know,
when I think we get caught in the.
Speaker 3 (01:40:30):
In the offensive prowess of these teams because we're always saying, well,
they don't have a quarterback, Well they how can they
get those wins without a quarterback? And then when you
look at a team with a quarterback and a good offense,
you realize, oh wait, they can't stop anybody. So I
think we we don't see the big picture when we're
(01:40:52):
talking about these teams until you really really dive into
them and you're like, oh, that's right. There was a
reason why they couldn't get over the hump because they
would score forty points and give up forty four. Have
they fixed that? We've talked about Jared Goff and the
(01:41:13):
steps he took, and I'm in Saint Raw and the
new running backs, and we talked about all those things.
And now we're now, after going through all of that,
we're talking about a Nutchinson and the defense and oh,
that's right, they were god awful.
Speaker 1 (01:41:32):
Did they fix it? Did they reset that thing? Did
they add when they were losing games?
Speaker 2 (01:41:45):
When they were losing games largely at the beginning of
the year, Like once we got to November, they lost
to Buffalo on Thanksgiving twenty eight, twenty five, they lost
on Christmas Eve to Carolina.
Speaker 1 (01:41:57):
That's it. Those are only losses once we got to November.
Speaker 2 (01:42:00):
But early in the year Philadelphia thirty Just tell me
if you can sense a trend here. Philadelphia thirty eight
thirty five, Minnesota twenty eight twenty four, Seattle forty eight
to forty five Miami thirty one to twenty seven. This
team was uncorking twenty five to thirty five points on
(01:42:23):
most weekends and lost a lot.
Speaker 1 (01:42:26):
Of those games.
Speaker 3 (01:42:29):
And I think that's why we get so infatuated with them.
Speaker 1 (01:42:32):
Oh they can put up points, but if.
Speaker 3 (01:42:34):
They haven't fixed that leaky roof, it doesn't matter how
nice your couch is or your TV is, doesn't matter. Eventually,
that roof's gonna come crashing down to ruin everything. And
that's where they are. I don't know. We have to see,
(01:42:55):
all right, So.
Speaker 2 (01:42:55):
You're taking the over on the Vikings eight and a half,
I'll go under, Lions nine and a half over under over.
Speaker 1 (01:43:05):
Oh after all that, you're gonna go over with the Niners. No, no, No, Lions,
Lions nine and a half, Lions nine and a half. No,
I'm going under. I am two. I'm going under.
Speaker 2 (01:43:19):
But it's largely it's largely because of what I'm gonna
do with the other two teams. Bears seven and a
half over under under, I'll go over, and Packers over
under seven.
Speaker 1 (01:43:33):
And a half under, I'm gonna go over.
Speaker 2 (01:43:39):
I think this is an absolute dogfight of four teams
that are all going to be between seven to ten wins,
all four of them.
Speaker 1 (01:43:50):
I think that division is going to be wild.
Speaker 2 (01:43:52):
Okay, we have not done the West yet, we have
not done the East yet. I will take the over
on what we think of Nick cop after this performance
that he is about to encork. So let's find out
what's trending here.
Speaker 1 (01:44:07):
He is Nick Cope.
Speaker 5 (01:44:08):
Ladies and gentlemen, all right, thank you for that very
wonderful introduction.
Speaker 1 (01:44:13):
Mark, Let's stick in.
Speaker 5 (01:44:14):
The NFL just got word in the Saints and Texans
have mutually agreed to cancel their joint practices this week.
That's the second set of joint practices to be canceled.
Also had the Patriots and Titans canceling theirs. Of course,
that was in the wake of Patriots rookie corner Isaiah
Bolden going down in that game last night. He was
released from the hospital this morning and did travel home
(01:44:37):
with the team elsewhere. Reports A Aaron Rodgers will make
his debut for the Jets in their preseason finale next
Saturday against the Giants. Colts coach Shane Steiken said running
back Jonathan Taylor will travel with the team to Philadelphia
next week and rams receiver Cooper cup is set to
return to practice this week. He's been dealing with a
hamstring injury. Our NFL preseason game win Final Sat speat
(01:45:00):
the Chargers twenty two to seventeen.
Speaker 1 (01:45:02):
We did not see.
Speaker 5 (01:45:03):
Derek Carr four New Orleans or Justin Herbert for Los
Angeles and baseball. The Nationals held off the Phillies four
to three in the MLB Little League Classic in Williamsport, Pennsylvania.
Other finals, Mariners finished off a sweep of the Astro
seven to six. Seattle's won six in a row, and
Julio Rodriguez stays hot. Blue Jays hit five home runs
(01:45:24):
in a ten to two thumping of the Reds Toronto,
just a half game back of Seattle for that final
AL wildcard spot. Yankees have now lost eight in a row,
their long Anguints losing streak since nineteen ninety five. As
a Red Sox beat him six to five. Giants over
the Braves four to three, Twins shut out the Pirates
to nothing. Cubs edged the Royals four to three, and
(01:45:46):
the Brewers. They had another solid day against the Texas Rangers.
Speaker 1 (01:45:50):
Use the pitch and a ground ball fair ball up
the first baseline and all the way into the right field.
Speaker 7 (01:45:56):
Tourner around third is Taylor.
Speaker 1 (01:45:58):
He will score.
Speaker 5 (01:46:00):
Backing in a second with an RBI doubles Yellich.
Speaker 1 (01:46:02):
It's three to one.
Speaker 5 (01:46:03):
Crew Brewers Radio Network. They sweep the Rangers with a
six to two in on Sunday. In the process, Max
Scherzer for Texas. He moved into eleventh place on the
career strikeout list, but he had a bumpy outing. Rangers
have now lost four stray that's their longest losing streak
of the year. Orioles had seventeen hits and a twelve
to one blowout of the A's In golf Victor Honvelin,
(01:46:26):
Storming back on the back nine, he finished with a
course record nine under sixty one to win the BMW
Championship over Scottie Scheffler and Matt Fitzpatrick. Finally, Tennis Cincinnati Open,
the final stop on the train of the US Open,
Novak Djokovic in three sets over Carlos Alkaraz for the
men's title.
Speaker 1 (01:46:45):
Guys, back to.
Speaker 2 (01:46:46):
You, okay, great stuff. Appreciate it so much, Nick Cope.

Speaker 2 (01:47:05):
Check it out for yourself at discover dot com slash match. Okay,
let's dive in to the NFC East, just as a refresher.
The Cowboys over under number is nine and a half.
Looking at the rest of the division, the New York
Giants seven and a half, the Commanders six and a half,
(01:47:30):
the Eagles the top team in the NFC at eleven
and a half. So start with the Cowboys nine and
a half over under.
Speaker 3 (01:47:43):
What do you think under why? I don't think they'll
be able to be I don't think they'll beat the
Giants twice. I don't think they'll beat the Eagles either time.
I really don't. I think we get so used to
the hype of the Cowboys. I think there's some uncertainty
there with with Dak Prescott. Whenever there's all of the
(01:48:06):
noise around the Cowboys, somehow they find a way. Right
you look at their schedule. They got the bills, they
got the at the bill, right, they got at the bills,
They got the Niners at the Niners at the Dolphins
at the Dolphins, right, so you know they had the
(01:48:30):
lines coming into town at the Chargers.
Speaker 1 (01:48:33):
But let's be honest, that'll be all Cowboy fans. But
still it doesn't. But you look at the schedule. I'm
the Jets. Yeah, I'm trying to find nine of these,
nine and a half of these to win. Yeah, they
play the Seahawks.
Speaker 2 (01:48:48):
I mean, if you just if you, if you wanted
to give what are considered and I know that this
isn't fair because who knows what these teams actually look like,
but what what are considered?
Speaker 1 (01:48:57):
The Bunnies they go to Arizona week three.
Speaker 2 (01:49:02):
I don't know what to think about the Rams, but
they do host the Rams a couple of days before Halloween,
they go to Carolina and then outside of that and
they've got their two games against Washington, which I think
they'll just list at.
Speaker 1 (01:49:18):
Which I do too.
Speaker 2 (01:49:19):
But that's the sum total of what you would refer
to as the air quotes easy games on the schedule.
Speaker 1 (01:49:26):
That's it. There's five of them, and I don't even
know if they're actually all that easy. So that's why
I mean notine and a half seems a lot for
the Cowboys. It does but it's Cowboys. You play Cowboy tax,
you know that.
Speaker 3 (01:49:40):
Yeah, they'll be on. Everybody be watching them, and it'll
be another one of those. I mean, the Eagles are
clearly the standard. They lost a lot of defensive players,
but they went into the draft and every replenished that
cupboard with young talent that that's going to be there,
uh for for some time now. I just uh, I
(01:50:04):
think the Giants will be okay. I mean, feelings are
getting back to what you know, Brian Dave bol still there.
I still like that. Sekwon Barkley is there.
Speaker 1 (01:50:16):
You like the over for the Giants over seven and
a half.
Speaker 3 (01:50:19):
I like the over for the that I would take
the the Cowboys, and I would give those games to
the Giants.
Speaker 2 (01:50:27):
Okay, I think I'm with you on those two so
far under on Dallas over on the Giants. So if
the Eagles are the standard, I mean, this is a
hell of a bite to take eleven and a half.
You got the you got the you know what's to
take an over taken.
Speaker 1 (01:50:46):
Over on that.
Speaker 3 (01:50:48):
Ah, that's a big number I'm taking. I'm stretching out down,
I'm I'm going out on the limb. I think they
got a lot to prove. I think they're young. I
think they're hungry. I think they understand that they're the
toast of the NFC, and I think they're approaching it
(01:51:08):
like that.
Speaker 1 (01:51:11):
I do. I think they're approaching it to be as
the toast of the NFC.
Speaker 2 (01:51:16):
I mean, if we're if the Cowboy schedule looks like
what we just said, then the Eagles.
Speaker 1 (01:51:22):
They're playing the first place schedule.
Speaker 2 (01:51:24):
Oh yeah, Okay, They've got their games against Washington, as
we know, they're at the Rams, they're at the Box.
But outside of that, they and they've got Arizona at home.
Speaker 1 (01:51:37):
Mm hm. The Bills.
Speaker 2 (01:51:39):
I mean, this is a team, this is a team.
They got the right but the Bills. I mean, they
get the Bills at home. They got the fewenty nine
ers at home. They they gotta gotta go to Seattle,
got to go to Kansas City, got to go to
New England, got to go to the Jets. They've got
Miami coming in Minnesota, coming in Belichick, man, no days, all.
Speaker 1 (01:52:01):
I get it. But to me, that's a favorable schedule.
Speaker 2 (01:52:05):
Okay, that's a favorable when they when they get to November,
forget home and road. I want to read to you
what happens when November starts. It goes Dallas by Kansas City, Buffalo,
San Francisco, Dallas, Seattle, New York Giants, Arizona, New York Giants.
(01:52:27):
That's the second half of the year for the Eagles.
Who's the number one team in the NFC? Yeah, the Eagles,
Well so, I mean, but they're projective. Then it's the Niners.
Speaker 3 (01:52:38):
Okay, but right now, well you know we can say
that if if for no other reason, the Niners division
is easier. True, for no other reason.
Speaker 2 (01:52:51):
That's why if you ask me who I think is
can get the one seed, I'll say the Niners.
Speaker 1 (01:52:55):
And that's my reasoning. Okay, Yeah, I'll take the under
on eleven and a half.
Speaker 3 (01:53:03):
Yeah, I mean most people take the under on that.
That's a big that's a big number. But I'm going
out there on the limb.
Speaker 1 (01:53:10):
Okay, at Washington over under six and a half. I
go under. See, I'm gonna take the over on them
because they can play D. Yeah they can, but they
can play D yeah A good point. All right, yeah, yeah,
no joke. Okay, check it out.

the Eagles played the Chiefs in the Super Bowl last year.
It wasn't the same. Yeah, like, my team not in
this anymore. I don't think I should come to this party,

Yeah, I didn't have that sentiment with this World Cup.
It's been so long since. I mean, last time I
was disappointed like this is when we lost to Japan.
Remember that I was so oh, I do I remember
where I was when that old mad Yeah?
Speaker 1 (01:56:26):
That was well. That one though, that had a lot
more expectation around it than this one.
Speaker 2 (01:56:32):
It really did, like you know what I mean, like
we were already in party mode, like that thing had
already been won.
Speaker 1 (01:56:40):
You know, Japan had never beaten us, and it just.
Speaker 2 (01:56:47):
Well, and that team was more in its prime. I
mean this one, the signs were everywhere this time. Let's
be honest. Yeah, so I just I punt it from
I'm sorry for your loss. I'm sorry.
Speaker 1 (01:57:05):
Hey, we got four years figure.
Speaker 2 (01:57:07):
That's right, that's right, just a just a minute until
we get out of check. I mean, that's that's why
World Cup disappointment.
Speaker 3 (01:57:15):
Man, man, you'd like, yeah, exactly, think about how much
life which change it for you?

Speaker 2 (01:59:17):
Year, but still, and then lastly, the San Francisco forty
nine ers over or under ten and a half?

a half, ten and a half. Oh my goodness, Well
I would I would have to go over.
