I don't even gotta talk trash about the week zero
slate just yet. That'll come in my next breath. Right now,
ball is back in the Irish or here. I'm ready
let's go.

Speaker 5 (01:43):
Yeah, I mean, how could you complain? Honestly, I get it.
I know there will be some complaining, but football's back.
We have Week zero. It's it's what we've been waiting for.
And regardless of the slate of games, I'm absolutely pummed
that we get to talk.

Speaker 2 (02:01):
We're actually counting down to kickoff.

Speaker 5 (02:04):
This this uh, this morning, this is this is great.

Speaker 4 (02:09):
This is what the show was designed for. Yeah, you know,
actually counting down to a kickoff? Yeah, yeah, we have
that now. Like, man, the Week zero slate. I don't
know what it is with college football, but it's like
being excited for a huge fireworks display and the only
thing laying around or some sparklers, you know what I mean.

(02:31):
Like we're ready for the oohs and o's and the
big matchups, and we got a couple of Sparklers. But
we have two huge brand names in Notre Dame and USC.
Both will be taking the field and it is cool
to see an overseas game, Navy against Notre Dame in Ireland.
It'll be fun. So I'm ready here, man, let's go,

(02:51):
let's get after it.

Speaker 5 (02:53):
Yeah, this is uh, this is one of those experiences
where when when you have when you have the opportunity
to take in any football whatsoever, it's awesome, but there
is an added benefit to having games played overseas. I
played in a London game when I was with the
New England Patriots my rookie year with them back in
two thousand and nine, and I remember thinking to myself,

(03:18):
you know, this is you gotta go a long way
to play the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Like this is more
of a hassle than anything else. But in retrospect, after
actually enjoying the experience, you know, going and staying in London,
seeing the sites, interacting with fans out there a lot
of fans of American football in Europe, and realizing that

(03:40):
it wasn't just you know, fans who live in Europe,
it was also American fans heading over to Europe. So
you had this influx of people coming in touring the
city before the game. The game that I was playing
in was was hosted at Wembley Stadium. But just like
Notre Dame Navy going to Ireland, like you're going to
have an influx of American tourists out there, You're going

(04:03):
to have interest from all across Europe. There's going to
be a lot of people who don't normally have access
to live American football. We're going to be able to
see it spreading the borders of the game. We really
love here. I actually I've grown to really love this
aspect of college football in the NFL. And I think
it's inclusivity that I appreciate.

Speaker 2 (04:24):
I like that.

Speaker 3 (04:25):
I like that you appreciate it. That's awesome.

Speaker 4 (04:27):
And hey man, when you get a taste of those
fans from abroad when you were back in your playing days,
and that's awesome. I've sure this is a great experience
for both sides, for both Navy and Notre Dame. Notre
Dame heavy favorites here, Rich Heavy. We're talking twenty and
a half right now at BEDMGM.

Speaker 3 (04:45):
The total is forty nine. The total has crept.

Speaker 4 (04:48):
Down, down, down, and that's one of the more interesting
things to me. This has been the off season of realignment.
It's just hey, USC and UCLA, that's old news, right,
they're going to the Big ten next year. Oh, by
the way, Oregon, Washington, they're going to Big ten. All
these teams going to the Big twelve. YadA YadA, YadA, YadA.
It's been one thing after another. And oh, by the way,

(05:11):
flying under the radar this change to the clock. They've
got a running clock after first downs. It's not stopping
except for the final two minutes of each half. So
you think about a heavy run based offense in Navy,
they're gonna.

Speaker 3 (05:26):
Be throwing it around a little bit more.

Speaker 1 (05:28):
Now.

Speaker 4 (05:28):
It's a new day and age for Navy football, but
they're going to run it. That's their bread and butter.
Think about every first down for Navy, in particular. If
they're running the ball a lot, the clock is just running, running, winding, going,
So you're gonna see some of these point totals look
a little lower to begin this year because of this

(05:50):
mammoth change to the clock running after first downs.

Speaker 5 (05:53):
Yeah, everybody is in a race all across sports to
have quicker, more intense action, right, Baseball made all those adjustments,
larger baits, bases on the base path, banning the infield shift,
making changes to the pitch clock that were instituted at
the minor league level but came to Major League Baseball

(06:13):
this year. College football, there's been a complaint a lot
of these games take too long. There's a lot of
people who want to flip around on a college football
Saturday and feel like they're getting locked in on too
many of these games punching up on each other. And
you know, all this is made for TV. Yeah, so
the television schedules are really important to these networks to

(06:35):
make sure you're flowing seamlessly from game to game to
game outside of overtime situations.

Speaker 2 (06:40):
And so that's a part of it too. I agree
with you.

Speaker 5 (06:42):
I think a lot of these totals will hit under
to start the season because we're going to see a
lot of offenses really struggling and offensive coordinators really struggling
to figure out exactly how they're going to execute offense
with these constraints.

Speaker 4 (06:57):
Yeah, man, and think about this too, rich, where just
the way the game is gonna flow. This is a
big deal because the clock stops after first downs, the
final two minutes of each half. But let's just say
that you're trailing by I don't know, ten points and
it's the middle of the fourth quarter. It's go time, Okay,
it's you got to pick up the pace over here.

(07:18):
And so if you are driving, and let's say you
pick up three first downs on a drive, even though
you're in a hurry up up tempo type offense, if
the clock keeps running after three of your first downs,
when the old rules, you would have gotten maybe let's
say seven eight seconds roughly of the clock stopping after

(07:40):
each first down. You add that up, you're talking in
the neighborhood of maybe twenty five seconds. So think if
you are down by three points at the end of
the game, those twenty five seconds that could swing it
whether you have enough time to try to tie it
up or whether you run out of time. So that
running clock, that's gonna be a big big deal, especially

(08:01):
early on adjusting to it in college football.

Speaker 5 (08:04):
Yeah, and you're seeing a lot of time being spent
working on the two minute drill the end of game
situations at practices all across the country in college football,
which takes away from some of your normal preparation because
you have to get used to those new rules. Now,
it's a long offseason. These coaches have a lot of
time with these players, and you have Springball two where

(08:25):
these rule changes were first instituted. But yeah, it's going
to be an adjustment, and I'm very curious to see
what it does to the length of these games and
also how offenses operate down the stretch. I mean, you're
probably going to see more passing, because that's what this sort.

Speaker 2 (08:41):
Of rule change encourages.

Speaker 5 (08:44):
You want to see the ball in there right in completion,
stop the clock. Passing toward the sideline a lot easier
to get out of bounds than starting to play even
from the hashes where they're close to the sideline in
college football. So going to be very interesting to see
the impact this has on the game this year.

Speaker 4 (08:59):
Okay, now put San Diego State to the side. Yeah,
because I know that's you know, you cover the team,
you talk about them there doing local radio in San Diego.
I know you're ready for Ohio San Diego State. Yeah, okay,
but this is one of seven games today right the
Ohio San Diego State tilt. What is the game you're
least excited for That's what I want to know is

(09:20):
that UTEP Jacksonville State. We're talking you mess New Mexico State.

Speaker 6 (09:26):
That is a.

Speaker 4 (09:26):
Gigantic fight right there. Yeah, that's a minute.

Speaker 2 (09:30):
Man.

Speaker 5 (09:30):
I don't know if I'm gonna be tuning in for
that one. But you know what, It's so funny we
often underrate how good a college football game could be
because of the teams. You know, look a lot of
times there's no juice, there's low buzz. You're not going
to miss out on anything extraordinary, but sometimes you do.

(09:51):
So I won't put it past any of these games
end up being a barn burner or something fun to
peek back in on later on.

Speaker 2 (09:58):
I'll tell you what. Outside of San.

Speaker 5 (10:00):
Diego State, Ohio, the game I'm most excited to see
is usc San Jose State. And really it comes down
to Caleb Williams. We know what's happened to college football,
same things happen to high school football. On the pros,
it's all about the quarterback now and defending his Heisman
Trophy and seeing what he does as a follow up act.

(10:21):
This is I mean, they're regarding him last year as
Patrick Mahomes. I can't mispick. I'll lia Andrew Luck coming
out of Stanford for this upcoming NFL draft. So two
things are going to be hugely consequential. Obviously how he plays,
but also his health. We've seen this so many times,
players who are huge prospects, they get banged up, they

(10:43):
have a down year, and then all of a sudden,
their draft stock plummets. I'm really curious to see how USC.
First of all, how USC protects him and if they
change anything offensively to get the ball out of his
hands quicker. And then also conversely with the defense is
due to him, because if you want to rattle a
guy's cage who's got huge things in the very near distance,

(11:07):
hit him early and hit him hard, you know, get
him thinking about, you know, his running gear a little
bit early in a game, make him a little trigger shy,
and you could force some mistakes, which obviously has a
top over effect that could affect the way he plays.

Speaker 4 (11:23):
Man very excited to see Caleb Williams. Of course, he
had that hammy injury in the Big twelve championship game
against Utah, came back and played the bowl game against Tulane,
but the season fizzled out for USC. It was right
there for we're talking playoff birth and who knows what,
but it came unraveling there. So to see Caleb Williams

(11:44):
back in another season, can't wait for that. Can he
defend his Heisman? Can he be the first player in
fifty years to be a back to back Heisman winner?
Two time guy? And the other thing he threw it
out there this week where he's like, I might come
back to USC next year, which I gotta see to believe.
But he's at least throwing it out there, like if

(12:04):
I don't like who's picking at the top of the draft, I.

Speaker 3 (12:08):
Might run it back here again.

Speaker 4 (12:11):
So we'll see what happens as far as all that
goes with Caleb Williams. But him being back, he's big time, right.
He is one of those huge names and so to
see him in week zero, that definitely is cool. Hey,

Trey Lance, former San Francisco forty nine ers quarterback. Earlier
this week, he was demoted from pick number three to

(13:58):
QB three. He went from the third overall pick in
the draft to the third quarterback on the Niners depth chart.
They traded Trey Lance yesterday to the Dallas Cowboys for
a fourth round pick. The first thing I think of is, obviously,
actions speak a lot louder than words. And I was
watching the Niners preseason game last night. Might have had

(14:19):
a vested interest in that contest, and if it goes south,
you think, why am I betting on preseason action? But
sometimes they went out, sometimes they went But I'm watching
the game and they're interviewing John Lynch on the forty
nine Ers TV network and John Lynch the GM. He's
saying all these flowery things like, hey, we still think
the utmost of Trey Lance and he could turn around

(14:42):
and have a solid career. Listen, man, it's all about actions.
Trey Lance was QB three, then he got traded for
a fourth round pick to a team that's one of
the top squads in your same conference, in the Dallas Cowboys.
Those actions tell you exactly what the forty nine ers

(15:02):
thought and think of Trey Lance, which is not highly,
not highly at all. It's not like they said Okay,
it's a second round or a fine, we'll deal him
in conference they said, fourth round are fine, just get
him out of here. It didn't work out. And those
actions tell you everything you need to know about what
the Niners think of Trey Lance.

Speaker 5 (15:22):
What the Niners think is they finally got rid of
one of the worst decisions they've made as a franchise
so they don't have to stare at it every single day.
And that's what Trey Lance represented to John Lynch and
to Kyle Shanahan, the biggest career mistake either one of

(15:42):
them have had as a member of the front office
or as a coach. Imagine every single day that player
walks through the doors, and it's not his fault, right,
I mean, to a certain extent, it's not his fault.
He didn't want to break his finger. He didn't want to,
you know, have his meniscus trim or break his ankle
and dislocate the sucker. But that's those are the breaks,

(16:04):
and those things happen his performance, his play. Kyle Shanahan
admitted this. You know, he came out, he spoke publicly
about this. He said, you know, I feel personally responsible
for not putting him in a position for success, and
that's on me. So imagine spending every single day walking
into that building and thinking to yourself, you know we're

(16:26):
gonna be joined by pretty soon here or maybe he's
already walked through the doors.

Speaker 2 (16:32):
Our biggest mistake that weighs on you, That.

Speaker 5 (16:36):
Leads to a lack of confidence, It leads to maybe
some doubt. I mean, football is the ultimate ego sport.
You need to be so cock sure every time you
hit the field, every time you put on that headset
to call plays, every time you're sitting with a phone
in your hand and you're talking to a rival general manager,
which the Dallas Cowboys and Jerry Jones their rivals. I

(17:00):
mean they've met in the postseason many times and making
those decisions, you better be sure. And I think when
you had Trey Lance in that building, there was a
feeling of doubt. There was a feeling of our are
we really are we really good at this? Because if
you miss that big and that that never resolved itself

(17:21):
while he was a forty nine er, it's a problem,
it really is. It's a problem, and it's one that
they found a fourth round solution to.

Speaker 7 (17:29):
Yeah, it was interesting good morning, by the way, guys
on two.

Speaker 2 (17:33):
Week zero week zero college football.

Speaker 7 (17:36):
As a right man, I could not be more excited
to wake up today and bet on college football.

Speaker 2 (17:39):
You have no idea.

Speaker 6 (17:42):
The trailer I listen.

Speaker 7 (17:43):
I feel bad for Trade because I think the circumstances, unfortunately,
he was set up to fail from the start.

Speaker 6 (17:50):
He was drafted at.

Speaker 7 (17:51):
A position that was way way over his skis any
anyone else's skis, your skis my skis, and to try
to live up to those expectations it was impossible because
that wasn't who Trey Lance was. He wasn't a guy
that was going to be the savior, top five pick
of a franchise, come in and all of a sudden

(18:12):
everything was gonna be great for the next decade. And
I feel the same way about Zach Wilson too, And
I'm happy that the happy ending is.

Speaker 6 (18:20):
Kind of occurring in with the Jets right now.

Speaker 7 (18:23):
And I think for Trey Lance, the best possible thing
was for him to get out of town and to
start fresh somewhere else. I will say this, Jerry Jones
does have a way of making things interesting. The second
that Dak Prescott struggles and it's going to happen. At
some point this year, we are going to be hearing rumblings.
Is Trey Lance gonna get a chance? Is this gonna happen?

(18:44):
And it's only going to make things more difficult for
the Dallas Cowboys this year. I frankly, I don't think
this trade was a smart trade for Dallas.

Speaker 6 (18:53):
For San Francisco.

Speaker 7 (18:55):
Get him out of town and start fresh and try
to heal some of those wounds. Trey, it's a fantastic rebuild,
restart in a new place where he can kind of
recalibrate a little bit. But for Dallas, I'm just like, what, Like,
why would you bring him in unless you really think
he's going to play? Why would you bring him into
that to that room where I think Dak's mentality, as

(19:18):
Rich alluded to, is already a little bit fragile in
certain areas, and if he struggles at all this year,
the distractions are only going to get more and more
intense as the year goes on.

Speaker 4 (19:30):
Well, here's the thing, man, I could talk about this
for the rest of the show. There's so many angles.
Like one of the angles is for Dak Prescott. This
might not be great for Dak, could be good for
the Cowboys. You'd take a flyer and a guy that
was once a third overall pick, and Trey Lance could
be good for the Cowboys. But for Dak Prescott, who
struggled last year through a bunch of interceptions, if he

(19:52):
gets off to a slow start, you know what you're
gonna hear. You're gonna hear, hey, thinking about Trey Lance.
I mean, maybe get Trey Lance out there might not
be the greatest thing. I can't imagine Dak looked at
his phone and said, Hey, we traded for Trey Lance.
It's awesome, man, that's cooling. I can't imagine that. The
other thing about this is I keep hearing these things
like Trey Lance didn't have a chance, Like Trey Lance

(20:13):
was in a tough position. Really, look at all of
the talent there in San Francisco. They are so talented
in terms of supporting cast that rock party, Mister Irrelevant
is thriving right now. And granted, there are a lot
of expectations and there's a lot on Trey Lance's shoulders
when he was drafted where he was and the Niners

(20:34):
trading all of that to get him, But goodness, we're
taking it too far Sam Darnald beat him out for
QB two. Sam Darnold just got there. Trey Lance been
in the system for two years now. I know he's
been nicked up with the finger injury and then the
tibula ankle last year. If he doesn't get hurt, who
knows what we're talking about right now. So there's been

(20:55):
some injury misfortune. But to make it sound like, man,
this guy he didn't have a chance from the get go.

Speaker 3 (21:01):
I just don't buy it. Look at all the talent
around it.

Speaker 4 (21:03):
Sam Darnold is looking at the talent in San Francisco
is saying, man, as a former number three overall pick myself,
if I had this with the Jets, good.

Speaker 3 (21:12):
Lord, I would have crushed it. So I just don't
buy it.

Speaker 4 (21:15):
From that standpoint, he was swimming in talent and still
couldn't be even QB two.

Speaker 3 (21:21):
That's on him.

Speaker 4 (21:22):
It's not on Kyle Shanahan not putting him in the
right position for success.

Speaker 3 (21:26):
It's a bailout.

Speaker 4 (21:27):
It's a nice thing to say as the guy's going
out the door and shipped off for a fourth round
pick because he couldn't get it done.

Speaker 5 (21:33):
Now everybody is concentrating on the Trey Lance side of
the Trey Lance trade. But I'm focused on the Brock
Perdi side of the Trey Lance trade, because what this
essentially means is, mister Irrelevant, the last pick of the
NFL draft from twenty twenty two is your starter. He's
your starter. Now, Like this isn't just hey, I'm I'm

(21:56):
filling in. Uh, Jimmy g got hurt and so did
trade and now I'm the guy and it went pretty well. No, no, no,
you're not just keeping the wheels on. You are the guy.
And so brock Purdy and his surgically repaired elbow have
the weight of this entire organization on them. So you
better be sure. The first five games is a gauntlet.

(22:17):
You face the Giants pass rush, the Steelers pass rush,
You're gonna face the Cowboys pass rush within the first
five games of this season. So this move to me,
and by the way, sending him off to Dallas, who
you'll see this move to me, indicates that they are
so one hundred percent all in on brock Purdy, especially

(22:38):
since Sam Darnold is the backup. Can't you can't imagine
a circumstance where he's a great option for the San
Francisco forty nine ers, So there's certainty here. If this
goes wrong, this again could be another one of those
moves where John Lynch and Kyle Shanahan are going to
be left holding the bag, where they say okay, the
fan base says, okay, you know, so you draft the guy,

(23:01):
you spend three first rounders to bring him through the doors,
you kick him out for a fourth rounder, and then
we're left with Brock Purdy if this goes sideways. So again,
they better be sure that Brock Purdy is that guy
because this is the ultimate test. Now, this is training
wheels off. There is no Trey Lance backing him up.

(23:21):
It's your team now, Brock. And I'm very curious what
the results are going to be early this season. He's
got a couple of teams, he's got a couple of
defenses that he didn't really see who are going to
be all sorts of fired up to start this season.
And it's tough, man, it's tough filling in a lot
of people talked about how few reps he took throughout

(23:41):
the course of the season as a scout team quarterback,
and he wasn't really working with the ones and the
starters during the regular season last year, and yeah, that is.
There's a whole list of reasons why what he did
was insanely impressive, and I gave him his flowers last
year for it. It's a whole different story when you're
the starting quarterback from day one.

Speaker 6 (24:00):
And that's the key, right.

Speaker 7 (24:01):
We put these expectations on Trey Lance for being the
number three pick. He didn't live up to them. Everyone's
going to be down on him, blah blah blah. It
doesn't really matter who was to blame for that situation.
The reality is he's gone now. And the way you
framed it, Rich was was correct. Like to me now,
that pressure, right is all on another person's shoulders. If

(24:23):
I'm Trey, I mean, Trey should be over the moon today,
the monkey the pressure off of his back completely when
you're in Dallas. And I don't know those I've never
played football for the Cowboys, but I'm just assuming based
off of the vibe over the last however many years,
Jerry Jones has been the owner a lot more pressure
on him than there is I think on a lot
of the players, or maybe the head.

Speaker 2 (24:44):
Coach perhaps too.

Speaker 7 (24:45):
But Dak Prescott now you know, assumes all of that
pressure and Trey can just kind of exist and just
learn and and hopefully not have to worry about a
lot of those things that he's probably been losing sleepover
the last two years. Because if I was the number
three pick in the draft and I wasn't living up
to expectations, it would haunt me every night. It would

(25:07):
affect how I felt when I woke up in the morning,
and it would.

Speaker 6 (25:10):
Probably cause me to lose sleep at night.

Speaker 7 (25:12):
So I'm happy for Trey that he gets a reboot here,
and it's just gonna be a really interesting few weeks
for the Niners, because, let's be honest, outside of the
quarterback situation, that roster is ready to roll, and we
just don't know because we haven't seen enough of Brock
to really feel comfortable giving him the keys to the car.

(25:33):
But clearly the Niners do feel comfortable, and I think
that's gonna be It is an interesting way to look
at the trade. As much as I am happy for
Trey Lance, I think it speaks a lot more to
where the Niners are as a team right now than
anything else.

Speaker 4 (25:45):
We're gonna speak a lot more about Isaac Lohenkron. That's
what we're gonna do right now, because this man, he
is a man's man. He is a poet on the updates,
and you're gonna hear more of his poetry right now.

Speaker 3 (25:59):
I love what's going on, and.

Speaker 1 (26:00):
Good morning, fellas.

Speaker 8 (26:02):
Eclectic subject matter from the world of sports to catch
you up on, Starting with a scary incident in Major
League Baseball last night, when two female fans were wounded
by gunfire at Guaranteed ray Field, the home of the
Chicago White Sox, during their game against Oakland. One woman
wounded in the leg in fair condition, the other sustaining

(26:22):
a gray's wound in the abdomen and refused medical treatment.
The White Sox said it was unclear whether the shots
were fired from inside or outside the ballpark. Now the
Associated Press obtained wide angle video that shows fans in
a section of the left field bleachers reacting to the
apparent incident while play was going on, just as three

(26:43):
small children were walking up a nearby ale Elsewhere. On
Friday night, the Seattle Mariners to be the Kansas City
Royals seven to five to tie Texas for first place
in the Al West NFL. Friday evening the San Francisco
forty nine Ers traded quarterback and former number three overall
draft pick Trey Lance to the Dallas Cowboys for a
fourth round pick, because apparently you can't say trade without

(27:05):
Trey anyway elsewhere. A short time ago, FIFA Soccer's governing
body provisionally suspended Spain Football Federation president Luis Rubialez for
ninety days after a non consensually kissed Spain player Jenny
Hermoso on the mouth moments after Spain's victory. Recently in

(27:26):
the World Cup Final. In its opening game of the
FOBA World Cup of Basketball, Team USA as a forty
five to thirty six lead over New Zealand at halftime. However,
fellas Team USA actually fell behind at the start of
this game fourteen to four, but has now recovered somewhat
back to.

Speaker 4 (27:44):
You get it together, Steve Kerr, huh boy, tell me
about it.

Speaker 1 (27:48):
What's the deal, Jim?

Speaker 4 (27:49):
Is it is Fox Sports Radio's Countdown to Kickoff, presented
by Bett MGM. At the end of your first year,
discover credit cards automatically double all the cash back you've earned.
That's right, everything you earned doubled. Seriously see terms and
check it out for yourself at discover dot com slash match. Okay,
so you know, Rich, you had to do the mayonnaise

(28:11):
bet payoff last last year, and I thought it'd be
a good way to kick off a new college football season.

Speaker 3 (28:18):
You know it's week zero right now.

Speaker 4 (28:20):
Absolutely not something that happened this week that caught my attention.

Speaker 3 (28:25):
This would be one.

Speaker 2 (28:26):
I'm not drinking maynaise again. Don't do it. Don't say
it was. What are you trying to say.

Speaker 3 (28:31):
There's no bet proposal just yet.

Speaker 4 (28:33):
But Will Levis now Tennessee Titans quarterback. He infamously dumped
mayonnaise in his coffee last year during SEC media days. Right,
he's a member of Kentucky, former quarterback there, and so
now he has signed a lifetime contract with Hellman's. That's right,

(28:54):
all the mayonnaise you could ever want. He's now with Hellman's.
Here's a portion of how this like fake press conference went,
very funny stuff.

Speaker 9 (29:01):
Today is a very special day. It's not every day
that someone offers to compensate you in mayonnaise. I'm proud
to officially announce that I've signed a lifetime supply of
Hellman's contract. I'd like to thank my mom who introduced
me to Hellman's mayonnaise and started my love for the
beautiful condiment that it is, as well as my high

(29:22):
school lunch lady, Miss Lisa, who knew that extra mayonnaise
meant extra mayonnaise.

Speaker 4 (29:30):
And I think this is the clincher right here now.
Now listen to this question, and in the background, especially
you rich, you can hear Will Levis just pouring in
the mayonnaise to his coffee.

Speaker 3 (29:45):
Check this out.

Speaker 1 (29:46):
Now that you've reached the highest level of the sport,
what does this epic signing mean to you?

Speaker 9 (29:54):
I mean, it just means the world to me, honestly.

Speaker 6 (29:57):
Oh that is foul.

Speaker 2 (30:00):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (30:00):
Yeah, it actually tastes worse than it sounds or you
think it would. I mean, there was a part of
me when I was executing the payoff of that bet
that we made over the course of the college football
season last year where I was like, well, this can't
possibly be that bad.

Speaker 2 (30:18):
Oh it's that bad.

Speaker 5 (30:19):
First of all, the new squeeze bottle of the Best
Foods or Helman's Mayonnaise, depending on which coast or what
store you buy it in. When it squeezes into the
hot coffee, it looks like ramen noodles in a dark
brown beef broth. And then you go to stir it
and you assume, well, these two liquids will find solution.

Speaker 2 (30:43):
No, no, they don't.

Speaker 6 (30:45):
No.

Speaker 5 (30:45):
What happens is they suspend the Helman's mayonnaise into a.

Speaker 2 (30:51):
Globule effect that while you're.

Speaker 5 (30:53):
Drinking the coffee, the chunks are real.

Speaker 2 (30:57):
Guys, I'm near and I clear we blew them right
back out.

Speaker 5 (31:02):
It was one of the most revolting experiences of my life.
And the fact that this is now, this, this gentleman
prefers his coffee, it sends up huge red flags for.

Speaker 2 (31:14):
The Titans organization. I gotta be honest with you.

Speaker 7 (31:16):
Yeah, yeah, I don't really have much to add to
this other than I wish I wish Will the best
in his mayonnaise career.

Speaker 4 (31:23):
Hey, you know what brought this all about was our
picks at the end of each show, right, And.

Speaker 2 (31:31):
Are we doing a similar bet this year?

Speaker 3 (31:33):
I'm just throwing it out there. What are we putting
on the line.

Speaker 2 (31:36):
Well, we can decide that later, but I mean, it
can't be mayonnaise again, guys.

Speaker 5 (31:41):
I think I will I will never bet again if
the stakes are that high.

Speaker 6 (31:47):
I don't know.

Speaker 4 (31:49):
I think that fear has to fuel you to some degree,
you know what I mean.

Speaker 6 (31:53):
There's some ballid point.

Speaker 4 (31:54):
I think Mark Schlareth remember the old offensive lineman. He
talked about just being full every single day. He was
gonna get cut. This is it for me. So he
was working his butt off that sort of thing. Maybe
that's the fuel you need for better picks this year.

Speaker 5 (32:11):
Rich, I just had like a cold shiver. Just chase
me up my spine. I I mean I I might.

Speaker 2 (32:19):
You might have to find a third host.

Speaker 5 (32:22):
You can do it, Rich, No, no, no, no, all right, listen.
The only way I agree to this is is to
to maybe potentially one day see one of you two
have to struggle.

Speaker 3 (32:35):
That's the thing.

Speaker 6 (32:36):
Yeah, well we very well might if it's not a
good year for us, that's right, all right?

Speaker 5 (32:40):
Well okay, if you got well motivation, if you guys
want to do that again, I guess we can run
it back.

Speaker 6 (32:46):
But fear pressuring.

Speaker 3 (32:50):
So it's best for the show. Do it for ratings, you.

Speaker 6 (32:52):
Know, Let's leave it at this. Let's leave it at this.

Speaker 2 (32:55):
If it's me.

Speaker 6 (32:56):
If it's me, I will have the barf right next.

Speaker 7 (33:00):
To to the situation, and I won't be afraid to
use it.

Speaker 3 (33:06):
You might have to, you might have to.

Speaker 7 (33:08):
All Right, we've got I'm gonna win this contest. So sure,
you guys, bet whatever you want and we'll.

Speaker 3 (33:12):
Worry about Okay.

Speaker 4 (33:14):
All right, mister Vegas, you come in, Joe's work out
the details. I'll be on my throne over here, eating
grapes and being fanned.

Speaker 3 (33:22):
We got it.

Speaker 2 (33:22):
His dog's named Jackpot for crime out.

Speaker 6 (33:25):
I mean, I mean, let's be honest, guys.

Speaker 7 (33:27):
Last year, I think last year was was I would
call it an average year for my picks, and I
still want and I'm being completely honest based on the
things that I looked at last year.

Speaker 5 (33:37):
What you said was hurtful, and I know you didn't
mean it that way, but that's what it was.

Speaker 4 (33:42):
What you said was egotistical. And I'm on a mission
to destroy you this let's go.

Speaker 6 (33:47):
Let's basically it. Yeah, I'm stronger this year.

Speaker 3 (33:51):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (33:51):
I don't know if it's like last year with the
funky math where you get four picks and you just
use the three best ones.

Speaker 1 (33:57):
I don't know.

Speaker 7 (33:57):
I don't know, we can know, honestly, I am okay,
you tweaking the format this year, because I do choose
the best bet every week, and that is a fair
I don't actually, I don't recall the best bet record
off top my head off to go back and look.
But I'm I'm up to tweaking the format if you
guys want to level the playing field a little.

Speaker 6 (34:14):
Bit more this year.

Speaker 7 (34:15):
I'm finding that I'm always down to, you know, change
the terms of engagement.

Speaker 2 (34:20):
As long as it ends with you barfing coffee Maine, and.

Speaker 7 (34:23):
Of course as long as it ends with the winning
then we're good.

Speaker 2 (34:27):
That's right.

Speaker 4 (34:28):
And we've got rich oron Berger, Penn State All American,
Jared Smith FSR betting analyst. I'm Brian No coming up next.
A small payout is cool, but a giant payout that's
way better. It's Fox Sports Radios Countdown to Kickoff presented
by bet MGM. It is Fox Sports Radios Countdown to
Kickoff presented by Bett MGM.

Speaker 3 (34:49):
Let's dive into this.

Speaker 6 (34:54):
Check this out with our late letter, Hey earn.

Speaker 4 (34:58):
A one hundred dollars bonus by signing into bet MGM
and clicking on refer a friend to invite a friend,
and then just a few simple steps both you and
your friend will receive a one hundred dollars bonus bet MGM,
the King of sports books, the King of barlays. Okay,
sound the trumpets. Here comes Jared Smith, rolling out a

(35:21):
parlay platter.

Speaker 2 (35:22):
For us.

Speaker 6 (35:24):
That sounded like a week.

Speaker 7 (35:25):
I feel like you can do the trumpets better than that, right,
We can do a like a more of an overture,
like a you know, the crescendo.

Speaker 6 (35:33):
No, I, I this is a weird This is a
weird day in terms.

Speaker 7 (35:36):
Of a parlay because I don't have a whole lot
of underdog money lines that I really like, so we
can't make that, you know, big payout kind of ticket.
So I just tried to keep it really simple this week.
And I didn't get a chance to chime in on
this topic off the top of the show, but I
heard that you guys discussed the rule changes in college football.
It is going to be a very, very big change

(35:58):
this year. You are going to notice it right out
of the gate. It is going to look and feel
a lot more like an NFL game. The clock will
continue to roll, I would estimate based off of the
rudimentary mat that I've done and some of the sharp people.
I've talked to Shave about a field goal off of
every total right out of the gate, just based on
the rule changes.

Speaker 6 (36:18):
So we're just going to try.

Speaker 7 (36:20):
To capitalize on that today and maybe think that the numbers,
the totals might be a little bit inflated as the
sportsbooks catch up. So I'm just gonna bet under in
three games that I don't really love in terms of
firepower offense, obviously the top one being a high in
San Diego State, and I don't love the fact that
San Diego State's defense is kind of reloading and Rich
could speak to this a little bit better, but their

(36:43):
offense is still one of those plotting offenses. Curtis Wark's
back for Ohio. I think they're going to be a
running team as well. Clock's going to be moving a
lot u Mass Mexico State. Listen, you Mass had the
worst offense in college football last year in Mexico State
not too far behind. I think those two things will continue.
This looks like an NFL total at forty four and
a half.

Speaker 6 (37:00):
We'll go under that as well.

Speaker 7 (37:01):
And finally, I am really interested to watch this UTEP
Jacksonville State game tonight. Rich rod Head coach at Jacksonville State,
first game for the game Cocks at the FBS level,
and I am very high.

Speaker 2 (37:11):
You might be hearing a.

Speaker 7 (37:11):
Little bit of this UTEP team during our future segment
a little later in the show.

Speaker 6 (37:15):
I'm very high on this UTEP team.

Speaker 7 (37:17):
Phil Steele has them as the best offensive line, second
best defensive line in Conference USA. I think they can
be a bowl team this year. And I think you're
going to see that running game really get ramped up today.
Remember the name Dion Hankins. He is going to be
a factor today. So we're going all three unders root
for no points. Ohio San Diego State under forty eight
and a half, U MASS New Mexico State under forty

(37:38):
four and a half, UTEP, Jacksonville State under fifty four
and a half. It's about six to one on the
payout guys one hundred bones for my money pays out
five ninety eight and twenty four cents.

Speaker 6 (37:52):
What do we think?

Speaker 5 (37:54):
Well, what I think is it really matches with what
we were talking about earlier on which is this rule
change definitely could shift the way we see point totals.
They were climbing for years with the air raid offense
and the spread offense dot infiltrated college football. But when
you speed up the clock, when you force decisions to

(38:15):
be made faster, it forces mistakes and it obviously shaves
down the amount of time offenses have to perform. And
I think we see this a lot early in NFL
seasons sometimes, or before the handicap has really honed in
on weather situations, sometimes hunders will hit a lot.

Speaker 2 (38:36):
I think this is going to be one of those situations.

Speaker 6 (38:38):
You know.

Speaker 4 (38:39):
It makes me think sometimes these in game unders are
a good way to go. If you get some heavy
run based teams, you'll see this consistently where you might
see a couple of early scores and you're thinking, whoa
fireworks city, baby, And sometimes you'll see those games just
die in terms of scoring. So it makes me think
about that, and I think it's smart to try to

(39:00):
bounce on the under with the rule changes right away.
Of course, Jared knows it's it's baked into the line.
He knows that, but still these unders could hit, And
I would just throw in a little additional nugget when
you see some scoring right away, Man, if these teams
run a lot, you can see that game scoring wise
slow way down, you can sometimes get an inflated number

(39:21):
with that total just jumps up with early scores. You
can sometimes take advantage of stuff like that.

Speaker 7 (39:27):
Yeah, I think I would say half baked into the
line week zero. I think it Obviously the sportsbooks are
aware of the rule, and I'm sure that they move
the totals down. But I think it's impossible because they
don't have any data on these games. Really, Frankly, it's
an NFL style in terms of the clock. I think
after two or three weeks that's when it'll be fully baked.

(39:47):
But yes, the sports books clearly are aware, and I'm
sure they move.

Speaker 6 (39:50):
Some of the totals down.

Speaker 3 (39:51):
Half baked like this movie one.

Speaker 5 (39:55):
Of my ass doctor sendaknya back out of me.

Speaker 6 (40:01):
Maybe I have a Zaba bar for breakfast, guys, my
only friend.

Speaker 4 (40:04):
Come it up next. We asked about the change, when
would it occur? The change is already here. Are you
ready to witness football?

Speaker 1 (40:15):
Fans? Welcome to the biggest tailgate party in the nation.
Fox Sports Radios Countdown to Kickoff, presented by Bett Mga,
the King of sportsbook. We're setting you up with the
information you need to watch your team win.

Speaker 2 (40:35):
Let's go.

Speaker 1 (40:36):
We're here to break it all down. Let's go, Let's go.
This is Fox Sports Radios Countdown to Kickoff, presented by
Bett mg app. No, we're live from your tailgate. Here's
Brian No, former Penn State All American, Rich Hornberger and
FSR betting analyst Jared Smith.

Speaker 4 (40:56):
Oh, we've got a major change in college boogball this season,
among many, among many that might help out your betting ways.

Speaker 3 (41:06):
That's on the way.

Speaker 2 (41:07):
Hey.

Speaker 4 (41:07):
Every time you make a wager at BETMGM, you earn
BETMGM Rewards points that can be redeemed with things like
free bets and risk free tokens. They can also be
converted to MGM Rewards points that can be used towards dining, shows,

Vegas Experience. Prizes include a three night stay during Super

(41:31):
Bowl weekend at a select MGM property, along with other
prizes like entry to the BETMGM party and food and
beverage credits.

Speaker 3 (41:41):
That is beautiful right there. Okay, let's dive into this.
The Big ten. So they're requiring availability reports.

Speaker 4 (41:50):
So this is because of legalized gambling getting bigger and
bigger and bigger. Sports betting is just continuing to grow,
and so the Big Ten conference there may get mandatory
on game days this season that you give an availability report.
It's required at least two hours before kickoff, so you
know who's in who's out.

Speaker 3 (42:11):
Is a big deal.

Speaker 4 (42:12):
We talked about it last year fellas where think of
a guy like Cam Rising at Utah where you're thinking
he's gonna play and then at the last minute it's like, oh, yeah,
he's not playing, and you're like, cool, I've got the
utes and they're backup quarterback whoever this guy is like.

Speaker 3 (42:26):
So, if you're betting on the Big.

Speaker 4 (42:27):
Ten this year, then you get a little bit more
information where if there's a guy that's iffy for a
game and he's a big time player, you'll know whether
he's going or not. That's a big change this season
and we'll see if other conferences follow suit with the
Big Ten. As far as this availability report goes.

Speaker 5 (42:47):
Well, to me, this is the opening salvo for sportsbooks
to start doing work with universities in terms of advertising.
Like this is where this is heading, because is what
we saw in the NFL was this, you know, almost
church and state attitude, like the NFL will not.

Speaker 2 (43:09):
Will not ever have a team in Las Vegas. Well
guess what.

Speaker 5 (43:13):
Las Vegas offered three quarters of a billion dollars to
the Raiders to move from Oakland, and the NFL said,
oh yes, please. You know, we thought we'd never see
gaming websites or sportsbook apps or shoot sports books out
in Vegas be able to sponsor NFL teams in any way,

(43:33):
shape or fashion. And boy, are the horses out of
the barn. They're running free. So I think what this
is is this is an olive branch. The Big ten
is offering an olive branch to potential advertisers in the
future because this is a huge, huge problem for handicappers,
This is a huge problem for betters, and this is

(43:55):
a huge problem for the Handle. How many people avoided
betting on that game because they didn't have complete information.
And how many handicappers are sports books leave some of
these games off their books completely or entirely miss out
on the Handle because they have incomplete information. So I
think this is an olive branch. I think this is

(44:15):
the first step in many concurrent steps that are going
to lead to sports books, advertising with universities and college
football teams in the future.

Speaker 7 (44:24):
Oh yeah, too much money for there not to be
some sort of a kumbaya there. I mean, I think
information in my line of work is crucial in college football.
That's why it's why this week is a really tough
week to bet. Next week will be even tougher with
a million more games. We don't have a lot of
information during the preseason. It's not like the NFL. These

(44:47):
coaches don't get up after practice every day and say
who's injured. It's very much kind of underneath that iron
curtain of secrecy. Certain coaches do better jobs than others
at keeping things under wraps. Nick Saban is the king
of this, and I think in general this is a
good step for transparency.

Speaker 6 (45:10):
I don't know what the ins and outs of the
rule are.

Speaker 7 (45:12):
I'm sure certain coaches will find loopholes, as the best
coaches do, but this is a positive step in the
direction of free what is it the Foyer Freedom of
Information Act. It's a positive step in that direction where
now there should be more of a precedent set for
those types of injuries. Most injuries don't have an impact

(45:34):
on the game. The one that Brian was referring to
had a massive impact on the game, the quarterback situation,
of course, being the biggest impact in terms of the
point spread.

Speaker 6 (45:45):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (45:46):
Absolutely, man, And.

Speaker 4 (45:48):
For what it's worth, it says that if a school
doesn't send its injury report within two hours of the
start of the game, it could be disciplined. And I
just immediately think, did Jim Harball, what are you gonna
do to us? I mean, really, what are you gonna do?
Is it worth letting you know that my starting left
tackle is out compared to what what we get? A

(46:09):
little slap on the wrist. So I wonder if some
schools just won't adhere to it. It's possible that's the case.
But this is the beginning of a gradual process, conference
by conference of giving an NFL like availability report. You
live by those in the NFL. Oh, some of these
guys that are iffy and you're like, is he in?

Speaker 2 (46:30):
Is he out?

Speaker 4 (46:31):
And just two hours before the game you get these
reports coming out. It affects the points spread a lot,
depending on who it is. So you're starting to see
this in college football. I think you're just gonna see.

Speaker 2 (46:42):
More and more of it.

Speaker 5 (46:44):
Listen, what is the through line sport to sport, league
to league, College versus pro is profitability. If something proves
to be profitable, if the proof of concept is there
at any level, all of a sudden, you see these
things trickling into other sports, into other leagues and to

(47:04):
the professional level or to the collegiate level. It's just
it's a copycat world. People want to mimic others when
they're successful.

Speaker 6 (47:14):
You know.

Speaker 5 (47:14):
You see the Kansas City Chiefs have success offensively, well,
all of a sudden, everybody's looking for their Patrick Mahomes.

Speaker 2 (47:22):
It's just the way the world works.

Speaker 5 (47:24):
So I think college football is very carefully scrutinizing the
situation they're currently in with name, image and likeness and
some of the issues that coaches have voiced on a
myriad occasions that this is becoming, you know, free agency

(47:44):
without any restrictions, and YadA, YadA, YadA.

Speaker 2 (47:47):
They need to.

Speaker 5 (47:48):
Find a way to fill coffers while some of the
monies are now being directed to the athletes themselves. And so,
like I said, I just think that this is something
that has been proven. The concept has been proven at
the NFL level, where okay, yeah, there have been some busts.
You've had a couple of players get suspended, and you've
had a couple of coaches involved in some things they

(48:10):
shouldn't have been per the rules, per the bylaws of
the NFL. But overall it's been a success because the
NFL is making handover fists advertising with these sportsbooks. So
I think college football, I mean, especially these conference commissioners,
they're looking around going how do we protect our jobs
because it looks like more and more conferences are getting

(48:32):
completely scalped and they're getting torn apart at the seams.
How do we prove our worth well, we take steps
towards making our conferences more profitable by potentially easing the
regulations and the rules and showing that we can have
a more symbiotic relationship with betting. And I think that's

(48:56):
where the future of college football is heading. I think
we're going to see, you know, potentially even stadiums names
being changed like they have at the professional level.

Speaker 6 (49:05):
Yeah.

Speaker 7 (49:05):
I remember when I worked at FAU and I used
to go in the compliance office to talk to people
about things and you know, for you know, random sid
you know, tasks throughout the course of the day.

Speaker 6 (49:15):
And the first thing I always remember.

Speaker 7 (49:18):
I mean, I've been betting on sports since long before
I worked there, But I remember walking into that office
and the first thing I saw was this giant poster
above the you know commissioners who handled the compliance's desk,
that said don't bet on it. And it was you know,
every person that walked in, and it was the rule
amongst all college sports, obviously athletes, but administrators and coach everything,

(49:43):
and it's I remember looking at it, like, yeah, I'm
betting on this every week, so just don't look at
my direction. But it's just that that vibe has changed
so much, and it's filtered down now to all levels
of college sports, where even you can bet on the
Division two games. Now you can bet on the FCS games.

(50:04):
Remember last year betting on Incarnate Word and Sacramento State.
And it just that type of atmosphere breeds excitement and
it gets people invested. And now the NFL has seen it,
other leagues have seen it, it's going to take longer
to infiltrate the college football ranks because of that staunch

(50:25):
resistance to it. That's, frankly, I think stiffer than the
resistance they met in the professional leagues. Because of the
amateurism that is involved in the nc DOUBLEA. But slowly
but surely the NIL infiltrated its way in and now
the gambling sphere has become very prevalent.

Speaker 6 (50:42):
So it is just a matter of time. It might
take some time, but it is just a matter of time.

Speaker 7 (50:47):
It is when, not if, that all of these things
just kind of come to fruition in the college realm.

Speaker 4 (50:54):
It's funny the current NFL poster of don't bet on
it would have like nineteen little subheadings where it's like,
don't bet on it unless it's not the NFL, and
as long as you're not at the facility at work,
and blah blah blah blah. The fine print it's so convoluted,
I'm curious how it's going to continue to change. And

(51:18):
we're taking steps toward embracing sports betting. You're seeing that
much more with the NFL. This is a small indication
with the Big Ten and their mandatory availability report due
two hours before kickoff, that's another step in the direction
of giving it a figurative hug, right like you are
living in a world where you're not trying to give

(51:38):
it the heisman pose and giving it the stiff arm,
like get it away here, you're embracing it a bit.

Speaker 3 (51:44):
I think it's smarter to do that.

Speaker 4 (51:46):
I'm just curious how many steps both the NFL and
college football take as the years go on. ESPN put
together a piece where they interviewed fifty three current players
in the NFL, a full roster size. They're just asking
them questions about the gambling policy, like do you understand it,

(52:06):
do you agree with it?

Speaker 3 (52:07):
That sort of thing.

Speaker 4 (52:08):
And Commander's punter Tressway said something interesting. He said, if
a guy's in the facility betting on the NBA Finals,
I have a tough time seeing how that's a big deal.
You can't bet on anything while at the facility, while
basically at work in the team hotel, on the team bus,
but whatever, you can't do it while you're at work.

(52:30):
And I agree with truss Way. I think that's stupid.
I think they're just creating an unnecessary hurdle. I want
to see if the NFL relaxes that in the not
too distant future. Where as long as you're not betting
on the NFL, it's all good. That's a whole lot.

Speaker 3 (52:46):
More easier to understand than the way they have it
even now.

Speaker 5 (52:49):
Yeah, I mean, look, I hate to bring this to
a completely different place, but I think it's comparable. I
had a lot of players who talk stocks constantly. It
was something they were interested in, and they played the
stock market, and sometimes they had people helping them with it,
sometimes they didn't. Sometimes they were on their Merrill Lynch

(53:10):
app and you know, it was what they had open
at all times around the building. And you can't tell
me that that's not betting.

Speaker 2 (53:20):
It is. You're betting on a stocks future.

Speaker 5 (53:23):
You're betting on a company that they're not going to
have some sort of scandal that affects the shareholder price.
And I mean it is legalized gambling, and so that
is a risk portfolio, just like your betting slips are,
and that is something that can be all consuming and
can become a problem if you allow it to, especially

(53:44):
if you're involved in day trading, and it can affect
your finances. Nobody seems to turn a side eye at
any of that stuff. But as soon as we're talking
about betting on sports, and look, I get it, there's
a gray area there where if you're betting on your
own sport, we can get into some murky waters. I'm
not oblivious to that, but that that statement about betting

(54:08):
on like an NBA final from a team bus on
your way to the airport forty eight hours away from
an East coast kickoff, like give me a break, that
is having zero effect on the dignity of the game.

Speaker 2 (54:24):
It just it has. It has a zero factor.

Speaker 5 (54:26):
And so these are adults, They're capable of making their
own decisions, and as long as they're not doing anything
elicit or illegal, I say more power to them.

Speaker 6 (54:36):
Yeah, I agree.

Speaker 7 (54:38):
I think when you when you zoom out and you
look at the big picture of the gambling space right now,
I know that there are bad actors. There are always
bad actors in every single industry. So the small issues
that we've had a few, I know, the Iowa State
thing was really weird, and and then of course the
the Calvin Ridley stuff, and you know, we had some

(54:58):
other you know NFL this year that we're kind of
dinged for it. But if you zoom out and you
see the impact that it's having in engagement levels.

Speaker 6 (55:08):
And obviously revenue, it is impossible to look at it.

Speaker 7 (55:12):
I mean, we're doing this show for crying out loud,
because of it that it is not having a positive
impact on the overall sports landscape. Again, there are negatives
to every situation. I don't care how positive anything is.
There's always an underside. There's always bad actors. There's always
going to be those negative stories that pop up. But
Money talks, and what Rich said is spot on. You're

(55:34):
talking to someone who used to be a financial advisor.
It is gambling, betting on stocks, especially like the derivative markets, options.

Speaker 6 (55:43):
Puts, and calls, and I won't get into it. It
is gambling.

Speaker 7 (55:46):
I look at my Robinhood app some days and it
goes up twenty percent and it goes down twenty percent.
That feeling of looking at your phone and seeing what
the stock is doing that day is the exact same
dopamine hit as watching your team that you bet on
score the winning touchdown to win your bet, or on
the flip side, the team you bet again scoring the
winning touchdown to lose your bet. So I think all

(56:10):
of those things are now becoming more acceptable in society
and the gambling space. While there are bad actors, and
I don't encourage anyone to break the rules, I think
we can all exist in a happy Universe. Well, we're
having fun, we're enjoying it, and it makes a lot
of money for a lot of people.

Speaker 3 (56:26):
That's some real dopamine when you bet on the wrong side.

Speaker 2 (56:30):
Oh yeah, oh yeah. Hey.

Also, Navy, we haven't got into week We only owns Navy.

Speaker 7 (57:01):
Actually, he's only owned Navy shirts the whole time, and
we've just been looking at the screens.

Speaker 9 (57:05):
Row.

Speaker 2 (57:05):
Well, no, he's got it right most weeks.

Speaker 5 (57:08):
Look, I'm not into regular season form yet. It's week zero, guys, let.

Speaker 2 (57:11):
Me ease it in. He's it in.

Speaker 3 (57:13):
We got Jared Smith FSR betting analyst. Let me see
what are you rocking there?

Speaker 6 (57:17):
What T shirt did you say?

Speaker 1 (57:18):
So?

Speaker 7 (57:18):
I have a new graphic T I bought like fifteen
of them in the off season. I have a new team,
new graphic t every week.

Speaker 3 (57:25):
Last week and I rocking the dju Wei.

Speaker 6 (57:29):
Huh, well, just wait till we get starter. At your segment,
you'll hear a little more from the.

Speaker 4 (57:32):
Beabs Brian though you know me only rocking the Irish
in week zero comes.

Speaker 2 (57:40):
There you go.

Speaker 4 (57:42):
We're gonna break for another two and a half minutes.
Though that's the only downside to IOWA playing to play
it all entirety. And I'm just kidding all right. Coming
up next, back to the futures. Oh man, another contest
involving all of us. And uh, let's say the NFL's
gambling policy might be easier to understand then, love.

Speaker 3 (58:04):
We got going on to this, but it should be fun.

Speaker 3 (58:35):
Let's get into this.

Speaker 1 (58:38):
It's back to the futures.

Speaker 6 (58:41):
Maybe we can voice couple bets.

Speaker 4 (58:44):
Oh yes, future bets over here, get go in a
lot of different directions, win totals, heisben, who's gonna win
a championship, who's going to be in the playoffs?

Speaker 3 (58:55):
All kinds of good stuff.

Speaker 4 (58:56):
Now, Rich, I'll let you explain the rules, because I
think it'll sound much easier if you do it.

Speaker 5 (59:02):
Okay, I think it's relatively easy. And if it isn't,
we could just update people throughout the season on what
our futures bets were. But we each picked five futures
we love season long, and then throughout the season we
can offer each other cash outs.

Speaker 2 (59:18):
Here's the one rule.

Speaker 5 (59:19):
You got to put one hundred dollars or one hundred
fictitious dollars on each one of these bets, right, and
so you start with a bank roll of five hundred bucks.
And throughout the season we can maybe talking out of
going the full season if something's performing really well, or
maybe we can beg for a cash out ourselves at
some point, and whoever has the highest bank roll at

(59:40):
the end of the season wins.

Speaker 7 (59:44):
I make an amendment. Yeah, yeah, So I personally like
the idea of allocating the bankroll accordingly. So five hundred
dollars to me, does it mean five bets with one
hundred each? It could be four bets. One of them's
two hundred, the other three or one hundred each. And again,

(01:00:04):
I think that makes it a little more interesting to
me because then I can kind of allocate the bet
that I like the most to be worth more. But
if you want to make a fifth bet, I can
pull one out for you quickly. Can I only have
four for you as right now?

Speaker 2 (01:00:18):
All right? All right, But but we need to agree
on all the rules. We need to all have a
virtual handshake. Brian. We think we think we're the final
decider for us.

Speaker 4 (01:00:29):
I think I think going uniform is the way to go.
If you have five different bets, one hundred bones apiece
makes it easy.

Speaker 7 (01:00:37):
The other thing true, the odds can be difficult because
if it's minus money, you won't win one hundred dollars.

Speaker 6 (01:00:43):
If you just risk it.

Speaker 4 (01:00:44):
Got to take that into account, Yeah, I got to
take that into account. Yeah that's fair for sure.

Speaker 6 (01:00:48):
All right, so then a fifth bet. It is five bets.

Speaker 3 (01:00:52):
Okay, Rich, you want to start us off here?

Speaker 5 (01:00:54):
Yeah, sure, all right, I am going to start you
off with my national champion. I got Alabama to win
it all at plus six hundred. A Nick Saban led
team always has a chance. There's no such thing as
a down year in Tuscaloosa.

Speaker 2 (01:01:11):
I like roll tied there. Jordan Travis. We already talked
about this last week.

Speaker 5 (01:01:15):
His Heisman odds are astronomical, and there's great value there
because we know this is narrative driven and obviously win driven.
I think they're gonna win a lot of games at
Florida State this year. So I got Jordan Travis at
plus twelve hundred, the Chiefs winning the Super Bowl, because
who else is gonna win it at plus six hundred?

Speaker 6 (01:01:34):
Oh you do NFL here too?

Speaker 2 (01:01:37):
Yeah? Well, I mean I don't know now, I'm now
we gotta chalk TUC rules again.

Speaker 6 (01:01:43):
All of a sudden, I thought this was college only. Okay, okay,
all right, yes, he'd because NFL NFL.

Speaker 5 (01:01:50):
I'm very glad that you're fine with NFL, because I'm
very fine with NFL.

Speaker 6 (01:01:55):
Well, in that case, I know what one of my
ficks gonna be that.

Speaker 5 (01:01:58):
I'm gonna go Patriots over their seven and a half
win total at plus one twenty five. Okay, and then
I'm taking the Jets over their win total at nine
and a half at minus one twenty five.

Speaker 3 (01:02:11):
Okay, interesting stuff right there.

Speaker 7 (01:02:15):
Yeah?

Speaker 2 (01:02:15):
Yeah. Do you want me to go next? Brian? You
want to go next?

Speaker 7 (01:02:17):
What do you want to do here?

Speaker 4 (01:02:19):
We'll get to both of our picks coming up in
just a second. Okay, let's work I low into the
four man weave. Now you haven't heard of this before,
you know the three man weave in basketball? Or no,
it's a new day and age.

Speaker 3 (01:02:33):
We go four man weave. Isaac Lohencron with the latest.

Speaker 8 (01:02:41):
Oh sorry about that, fellas, I was just refreshing the
US World Cup score TVUSA now up ninety five to
seventy over New Zealand with one aweight and county left
on the fourth quarter of their opener at the Feeble
World Cup of Basketball. They actually fell behind this game
fourteen tofore, but have restore to a very big lead.

(01:03:01):
Palo Banchero actually their leading scorer with twenty one points
off the bench on eight out of ten shooting from
the field. In Major League Baseball, two fans were wounded
by gunfire at Guaranteed Rate Field, the home of the
Chicago White Sox, during their game on Friday night against Oakland.
One fan was wounded in the leg and is in
fair condition. The other sustained a gray's wound in the

(01:03:23):
abdomen and declined medical treatment. The White Sox said it
was unclear whether the shots were fired from inside or
outside the ballpark. The Associated Press actually obtained wide angle
video that shows fans in a section of the left
field bleachers reacting to the apparent incident that occurred while
play was going on. Today, FIFA, the governing body of soccer,

(01:03:46):
provisionally suspended Spain Football Federation president Luis Rubialez for ninety
days after a non consensually kissed Spain player Jenny Hermoso
on the mouth moments after victory in the recent World
Cup final. Finally, in the NFL, on Friday night, the
San Francisco forty nine Ers traded quarterback and former number

(01:04:10):
three overall draft pick Trey Lance to the Dallas Cowboys
for a fourth round draft pick, and they are in
the final seconds of the team USA FOEBA World Cup
of basketball opener in New Zealand, which just missed a shot.
Final buzzer sounds in Team USA has won their opener
ninety nine to seventy two. Steve Kerr guy's getting off

(01:04:32):
the hook after folling behind fourteen to four. Apparently back
to you.

Speaker 3 (01:04:36):
Thank you, I Low.

Speaker 4 (01:04:37):

just watching the Team USA FOEBA game against New Zealand.

(01:04:58):
In game line, US favored by twenty seven and a half.
They won by twenty seven. I didn't bet either way.
It's just it's sick close. They convinced it is just wild.
But we get to back to the futures. Looking at
future bets, we'll have five of them, one hundred fictitious
dollars a piast on these bad boys, and I think

(01:05:22):
I need more long shots in mine. I'm updating my
portfolioh wow. Looking at a lot of season win totals here.
But Jared, we'll go with you. Man, what are your
five futures bets that you're thinking of.

Speaker 7 (01:05:33):
I guess I'm gonna be the conservative one here because
I have no long shots, no divisions, no Heisman's, no natties,
just straight win totals. And I'll be frank to me.
The win total market in college football and the NFL
is are could be my favorite way to bet both leagues.
I think it's more efficient. I think you don't worry
about the point spread. It's just winning games. And then

(01:05:54):
as the season goes on, as Rich alluded to, the
ability to play those win totals off of each other
and bet against the team that you bet the over
win total on later in the year opens up some
interesting opportunities.

Speaker 6 (01:06:06):
But we're not there yet.

Speaker 7 (01:06:07):
I think all five of these are winning bets, and
I would make all five of them very confidently. We'll
start with the UTEP Miners. I mentioned them a little
bit earlier in the show. They played Jacksonville State tonight.
Their win totals five and a half. I really really
like this UTEP team. It's probably my favorite win total
on the board in college football. They returned fifteen total
starters off a team that won five games last year,
and Gavin Hardison, I think is gonna have a little

(01:06:28):
bit of an easier time at quarterback.

Speaker 6 (01:06:31):
Got hurt didn't play the final two games.

Speaker 7 (01:06:33):
UTEPS offensive line again Hardison in front of him has
arguably the best offensive line in Conference USA, the second
best defensive line according to Phil Steel. And keep an
eye on Dion Ankins, second team All Conference last year.
I think he has a big season this year. The
other colleg football win total, I really like his. Oregon
State over eight wins. Their non conference schedule is a cinch.
They will start three to zero as long as they

(01:06:54):
can beat Rich's Aztecs with I think it's the toughest
of those three non conference games. But then we get
into Pac twelve play and they've got kind of an
easier road where they don't have to go on the
road and face a lot of these tough teams. And
if DJ you can figure out whatever ailed him at
Clemson oh Man. The rest of this Oregon State team's legit.
Their offensive line, defensive line one of the best in
the Pac twelve. Last year, they had the best overall

(01:07:15):
defense in the conference, one of the few teams in
the Pac twelve.

Speaker 6 (01:07:18):
That actually likes to play d NFL.

Speaker 7 (01:07:20):
The three teams that I'm betting on in the NFL
this year, I'm betting two overs in one under.

Speaker 6 (01:07:25):
The Steelers over eight and a half wins.

Speaker 2 (01:07:27):
I really think Pittsburgh is ready to roll.

Speaker 7 (01:07:29):
I think Kenny Pickett's undervalued, and I think the offensive
line again is as strong.

Speaker 6 (01:07:34):
As any unit in football.

Speaker 7 (01:07:35):
We know how good the defense is, we know how
good of a coach Mike Tomlin is twenty excuse me,
sixteen consecutive years without a losing season.

Speaker 6 (01:07:43):
I think they make it seventeen. I think they go
over eight and a half wins. Panthers under seven and
a half regular season wins.

Speaker 7 (01:07:48):
I don't really like the vibe I seeing Carolina right now,
especially upfront protecting Bryce Young. He is going to have
a tough time early in his career with the pieces
they have in front of him.

Speaker 6 (01:07:59):
And finally, this is Brian and I's a dueling battle
this year.

Speaker 7 (01:08:03):
The Green Bay Packers over seven and a half regular
season wins.

Speaker 6 (01:08:08):
I love Jordan Love. What can I say? The rest
of the team I think is legit.

Speaker 7 (01:08:13):
They've got a fantastic defense, great secondary, the offensive line
is one of the best, and if Jordan Love plays
above expectation, I think the Packers go way over the
win totals.

Speaker 6 (01:08:21):
So I'll give in to you one more time.

Speaker 7 (01:08:22):
UTEP over five and a half wins minus one, fifteen
Oregon State over eight wins minus one, twenty Steelers over
eight and a half wins minus one, forty Panthers under
seven and a half wins minus one, ten Packers over
seven and a half wins minus one, twenty two.

Speaker 4 (01:08:39):
All right, I'm going I'm going all season win totals
as well. I you know, I might sift through and
pick a long shot, but time is of the essence,
you know what I mean, And so we're going with
strong plays, not huge payouts, but I think solid plays.
I'll give you my three to zero and my two

(01:09:01):
unders to follow. I like over six and a half
for the Rams. I think they're completely undervalued. I think
we're just going off of what we saw last season.
It was a disaster, but it was fueled by a
rash of injuries. But you have your three core players
in Stafford Cup and Aaron Donald all hurt missed extensive time.

(01:09:21):
I think they're blessed with better health this season and
getting to seven wins. I don't think that's too high
of a bar for them to reach. I love the
Rams over six and a half. I love the Cowboys
over nine and a half. Goodness, that roster is so
loaded that Dak Press got missed five games through a
ton of interceptions when he was in there, and they
still won twelve games. That is not a loaded conference.

(01:09:44):
I'm taking the Cowboys to at least get to ten
wins and not homering out here. I see ten wins
at least for the Dolphins. You get Vic Fangio in
there to coach up the defense. I love his schemes.
It's being mimicked throughout most of football he's been able
to do. And then I think that Tua hopefully remains upright.

(01:10:05):
That's the wild card here. But without him remaining upright
last season, they still got to nine and eight. I
think it's going to be a track meet with those
playmakers on the outside and Tyreek Hill and Jayleen Waddle
and coupled with a defense that once they get you know,
Jalen Ramsey back healthy around Christmas, which is a huge loss.

(01:10:25):
I still think that Vic fango is gonna make a
big difference. Give me the Dolphins over nine and a
half the unders. I'll go to college football. I'm going
with Nebraska under six. That's at plus money. It's at
plus one thirty. I think Matt Rule will turn things around,
but I don't think right away, Wow, that is not
a deep team whatsoever. And when I get plus money,

(01:10:46):
I don't see Nebraska getting to seven wins. So I'm
thinking worst case scenario we push. I like the under
at plus money because that could absolutely hit coming off
a four and eight season. So give me under six
for the corn Huskers and then saving the best for last.
I don't love Love. If you're not not in twenty

(01:11:08):
twenty three, I am down on Jordan Love. I don't
think he hits the ground running. You had Aaron Rodgers
back to back MVP take a noticeable step back last season.
Might have had something to do with a bunch of
young guys all around him in terms of who he's
throwing to not named Devonte Adams. Jordan Love in his
eighty three career passing attempts in the NFL. He's not

(01:11:30):
gonna hit the ground running. It's an underperforming defense. And
so you're gonna play like the Patriots. It's gonna be
run the ball, primarily, mix in the pass, rely on
your defense. That to me, with the way the schedule
lays out, I don't like how it sets up for
the Packers. Some big road tests, some primetime games. They
have six primetime games, like they're gonna be good or something.

(01:11:52):
So some of these road games, like the Raiders, that's
a fair ball matchup. That's a Monday night road game
that might not even be a w So I've got
under seven and a half for the Packers. Those are
my future place.

Speaker 2 (01:12:06):
All right. All right, well, okay, we're gonna have to
keep track of this.

Speaker 5 (01:12:12):
Uh so send them, send them to the group text boys,
and we'll be checking in throughout the season.

Speaker 7 (01:12:17):
We should do a graphic with our faces on it
with all the picks, and then we can continuously enjoy
the back to the Futures updates throughout the course of
the season. I think I think we should have a
separate side bet dope with the Packers, Brian, I really do,
I honestly do. I'm very confident aboutise.

Speaker 3 (01:12:41):
Yeah, listen to you. Yeah, you're his advicestander. Just trying
to fuel this whole.

Speaker 5 (01:12:46):
Baby, I don't just I'm just a guy.

Speaker 6 (01:12:49):
We'll come up with something. We'll come up with something
that's amenable for both.

Speaker 4 (01:12:54):
Well, I did say, filling in for Milwaukee Radio, I
said that if Jordan Loved Wayne Lair was a guest,
they're played by play guy who's awesome, and he's like,
I think twenty six and ten could happen for Jordan
Love touchdowns to interceptions, and I'm like, you're out of
your mind. And so I said I would get a
Nick Kurios. It was something we were talking about at

(01:13:16):
the time. Nick Kurrios to tennis player has this elaborate
Pokemon back mural he's got, He's all tatted up.

Speaker 3 (01:13:24):
Yeah, very elaborate.

Speaker 4 (01:13:25):
I said, I will get the exact same thing if
Jordan Love goes twenty six and ten or better, because
that is just craziness right there. Aaron Rodgers went twenty
six and twelve last season with all of his experience. Meanwhile,
eighty three passing attempts for Jordan Love. He's doing better than.

Speaker 3 (01:13:44):
That right out of the gate. That's insane. Milwaukee's not
very fond of me right now.

Speaker 7 (01:13:50):
I'm gonna say you're probably public enemy number one in
the entire.

Speaker 6 (01:13:53):
State of Wisconsin right now.

Speaker 7 (01:13:55):
You can't You're not allowed to beat cheese until the
end of football season.

Speaker 3 (01:13:59):
You know, man, I'm not trying to be loved. I'm
just trying to tell you the truth as I see it.

Speaker 7 (01:14:04):
That's fair, that's not gonna beauty of football. We can
differentiate on opinions. And I went on a show actually
a couple of days ago, and I gave my Packers
take and I got a lot of pushback about Jordan Love.
And to me, that's the beauty of the NFL markets
is when there is a difference of opinion at quarterback.
One man's trash is another man's treasure because it impacts

(01:14:25):
the line so much that if one person's really high
on Jordan Love, seven and a half wins is bottom basement.
If someone's really low on him, seven and a half
wins is the penthouse. So it really does make for
an interesting journey throughout the season.

Speaker 2 (01:14:39):
We need to make this a cheese bet.

Speaker 5 (01:14:42):
So whoever loses just said it's gonna have to eat
a big old stinking Morganzola.

Speaker 2 (01:14:49):
I think that's yeah, just.

Speaker 6 (01:14:51):
What cheese do you like the least, Brian, I have
no idea.

Speaker 3 (01:14:54):
I'm not a big cheese guy.

Speaker 2 (01:14:56):
Perfect something that smells like socks?

Speaker 6 (01:15:01):
Now, how about how about this?

Speaker 7 (01:15:02):
How about a spoonful, like a big fat spoonful of
blue cheese straight up like the dress. I'm talking like
the cheese dress. You gotta pour it into a cop
and take a big scoop and just go hard on it.

Speaker 2 (01:15:16):
It's got to be.

Speaker 5 (01:15:17):
It's gotta be one of those cheeses like from the
cartoons where you have the green little stenchlines that are
just heaving and waving above it, like I want to
be to see how bad they stink.

Speaker 2 (01:15:29):
I I think that.

Speaker 6 (01:15:30):
I think the cheese bet is a is a really
good idea.

Speaker 3 (01:15:33):
Something about mate that might be it.

Speaker 4 (01:15:36):
I feel like something like flying to Green Bay while
wearing a cheese head, you know, like something like this,
something that's a lot, you know.

Speaker 3 (01:15:46):
Yeah, that's what I'm thinking. Something along those.

Speaker 6 (01:15:49):
I'm gonna lose.

Speaker 7 (01:15:49):
I'm gonna lose more money on on the plane ticket
to Milwaukee than I did on the back.

Speaker 3 (01:15:53):
That's what I'm saying.

Speaker 4 (01:15:54):
That's how it goes all right. Coming up next, we've
got Rich orn Berger. Penn State All American Chared Smith,
f R betting analyst. I'm Brian No coming up. You've
heard of unconditional Love. I want to introduce you to
conditional Love. That's on the way. It's Fox Sports Radios

I know we're in football mode, but this basketball story
can also apply to football because something that Yanni said,
dett To Kumbo said caught my attention. He did this

(01:16:55):
sit down interview with the New York Times, and so
he's eligible to sign an extension with the Bucks next month.
Could be a three year extension. He says, probably gonna
wait until next summer because he wants to make sure
the Bucks are fully committed to winning a championship like
he is.

Speaker 3 (01:17:17):
And I thought the interview was really interesting. It boils
down to this.

Speaker 4 (01:17:22):
You might have unconditional love for the team you root for,
maybe you fond memories, you've gone to games with friends
or family members, or you love this team unconditionally. It
doesn't always work that way for the players, and I
have no issue with that. You have to understand that
a lot of times it's conditional love. And Giannis is
looking at it and saying, hey, I love the Bucks,

(01:17:42):
but as long as we're in title contention, because if
we're not, I might have to go elsewhere in spite
of still loving you. Oh I was gonna love you,
but I gotta be in a best the best spot
possible to win another ring. I have no issue with
that whatsoever. That's the way sports works more times than
not with players, They've got to be in an advantageous

(01:18:03):
position to compete at the highest level.

Speaker 3 (01:18:05):
No issue with it at all.

Speaker 2 (01:18:07):
Yeah, Yannis.

Speaker 5 (01:18:08):
To me, there are so many parallels between what he's
doing with the Bucks as what Aaron Rodgers did with
the Green Bay Packers, and oddly enough they were buddies, right.
They definitely spent some time talking while Aaron Rodgers was
still in Wisconsin, and it just it just it doesn't

(01:18:32):
shock me at all that all of a sudden, this
is the way he's looking at the world now. I
think there's a likability with Yannis that was probably missing
with Aaron Rodgers from the national public. A lot of
people were rubbed the wrong way during the pandemic with
some of the statements that he made, and they felt misled.
But this is almost the exact same thing that Aaron

(01:18:53):
Rodgers did to the Green Bay Packers and as a
result forced his way to New York and went to
the exact destination he wanted to and got everything he
needed and wanted. And so there's gonna be a lot
of people who are gonna have hard opinions about Giannis
on the other side of this. But the likability factor
is actually what's making the story feel different. But it
is the same exact tactic that Rogers employed with the Packers.

Speaker 7 (01:19:16):
Yeah, the players of all the power in the NBA,
it's not going to change with the honest and I
think If anything, the star players have even more power.
So it just it makes it makes a lot of sense,
And I can't really disagree with the honest's stancer.

Speaker 4 (01:19:30):
Yeah, he said he he doesn't want to play twenty
years and have just one ring, So hey, I get that.

Speaker 3 (01:19:36):
I totally understand that.

Speaker 4 (01:19:38):
Coming up next a debut that involves more than just
college football Week zero.

Speaker 8 (01:19:45):
Today, FIFA Soccer's governing body provisionally suspended Spain Football Federation
president Luis Rubialez for ninety days after a non consensually
kissed Spain player Jenny Hermoso on the mouth moments after
Spain's victory in the recent World Cup Final. In tm
USA's opening game of the FOEBA World Cup of Basketball today,

(01:20:08):
tm USA fell behind New Zealand early fourteen to four,
but recovered for a ninety nine seventy two victory. In
Major League Baseball, two fans were wounded by gunfire at
Guaranteed Raid Field, the home of the Chicago White Sox,
during their game Friday night against Oakland. One fan was
wounded in the leg and is in fair condition. The

(01:20:28):
others sustained a gray's wound in the abdomen and declined
medical treatment. White Sox said it's unclear whether the shots
were fired from inside or outside the ballpark. I'm Isaac Lahncron.
Are you ready to witness football?

Speaker 1 (01:20:45):

Speaker 2 (01:21:04):
Let's go.

Speaker 1 (01:21:05):
We're here to break it all down as well.

Speaker 6 (01:21:08):
Let's go.

Speaker 1 (01:21:08):
This is Fox Sports Radios Countdown to Kickoff, presented by
bett mgap No, We're live from your tailgame. Here's Brian No,
former Penn State All American, Rich Ornberger, and FSR betting
analyst Jared Smith.

Speaker 4 (01:21:26):
Oh, Week zero isn't the only debut today that is
on the way. Bet MGM is now available under one
wallet in select states. For example, if you're in the
DMV area, no need to worry about making separate accounts
for DC, Maryland and Virginia when crossing state borders. Simply

(01:21:47):
just log into your existing account instead of creating a
new one. Fellas, we're all excited for Week zero, more
so excited for Notre Dame USC. The brand names rich
are excited for Sant Diego State. I can't say I'm
geeked for at Jacksonville State or U Mass Not exactly

(01:22:08):
thrilled for that, But it's not I know, I know,
it's not just college football, the debut of a new
season and week zero today, it is the debut of
one Aaron Rodgers New York Jets quarterbacks, the first time
he's played in a preseason game since twenty eighteen. So
it's gonna be a bit of a dress rehearsal for

(01:22:29):
Gaine Green today against the Giants. And I like what
Mike Tomlin had to say, the Steelers head coach. He said,
I just think it's hard to box without sparring, and
so that's what he's saying about preseason playing some starters.
It's sort of like sparring before a big prize fight
and actually boxing. I like that comparison, and that's at

(01:22:52):
least a little bit of what the Jets are thinking
right now with their head coach Robert Sala and Aaron
Rodgers getting some time on the field.

Speaker 5 (01:23:00):
Yeah, yeah, I think that Aaron Rodgers, even though it's
been a long span since the last time he's played
in the preseason obviously hasn't needed it because the offense
he was playing in was very familiar to him, the
people he was playing with very familiar to him, the
stadium he was playing in for the majority of his

(01:23:20):
games was familiar to him. Well, everything's changed now he's
playing with a brand new franchise. This is the first
major change in his career since he's left college. So
I think it's I think it's a good decision. It's
not the right decision for every quarterback or the right
decision for every team, but for the Jets this year,

(01:23:41):
Aaron Rodgers getting some preseason time with Yeah, a little
bit of a dress rehearsal with his starting offense, I
think is smart.

Speaker 7 (01:23:49):
Yeah, And I think it's not only just a dress rehearsal.
This Jets Giants game feels like the closest thing to
a regular season games you're going to get in the preseason,
and I think that atmosphere will help.

Speaker 6 (01:24:05):
And let's be honest, we waited long enough for this.

Speaker 7 (01:24:08):
I don't know if you guys have kept up with
hard knocks, but it's basically the Aaron Rodgers manifesto. And
don't get me wrong, I love every second of it
as a Jets fan, and I think as a football fan.

Speaker 2 (01:24:20):
I went back and.

Speaker 6 (01:24:21):
Looked at the Hard Knocks. Over the years, we haven't
had a quarterback of Aaron Rodgers caliber on this show.

Speaker 7 (01:24:27):
So the fact that we are getting that glimpse into
his process, into how he feels, into who he is
as a person.

Speaker 6 (01:24:33):
I know a lot of it's probably surface level.

Speaker 7 (01:24:35):
I'm not going to glean too much from it, but
it's exciting that we're gonna get the Hard Knocks version
of this as well and the following week. So I
think there's a lot of really positive things to him
playing in this game.

Speaker 6 (01:24:50):
The one negative is obviously, God forbid he.

Speaker 7 (01:24:54):
Gets injured, but let's be honest, that could happen at
any point in time during the course of the season
at some point point, Like it reminds me of the
when you first buy a new phone and I get
I don't know about you, guys, I'm a little OCD
with some of my stuff. I get like chills when
I finally take that plastic film off the top of it.

(01:25:14):
You know, you're like waiting and you're like, man, this
phone is so crisp, it's so new. I almost don't
want to use it. And then you take that film
off the top, and then you start getting the fingerprints
and the scratches and the dings and the day. Eventually
you have to take the film. You have to unwrap
the present. It can't stay wrapped forever. I think this
is the right time to unwrap it. Me.

Speaker 3 (01:25:33):
It's like eating fries in the new car.

Speaker 4 (01:25:36):
You know, when it's the new car, smell no eating,
no eating of any kind, and then you give it
a little bit of time.

Speaker 6 (01:25:42):
Yep.

Speaker 4 (01:25:43):
I'm like throwing fries in the air and trying to
catch them. You know, that's the way it goes. You know,
I'll go hard knocks and harden on you right here,
because this is what I'm wondering with Aaron Rodgers. Are
we going to see a James Harden like Timeline so At?
James Harden with the seventy six ers he signed last

(01:26:04):
year for less money. He left fifteen million dollars on
the table, said hey, let's build a better supporting cast here.

Speaker 3 (01:26:10):
Let's give it a go. I'm going to worry less
about myself.

Speaker 2 (01:26:13):
I'm gonna worry.

Speaker 4 (01:26:14):
More about my teammates and others. I'm gonna lead the
league in assists. I'm not gonna worry about me scoring points.
Let's worry about team first. It was team first Harden
last season, and that is out the window now. Now
he's calling Darryl Moriy a liar. He's forcing his way
out of Philly. He's back, He's backing better than ever.
That's what I'm wondering with Aaron Rodgers. Aaron Rodgers has

(01:26:36):
been difficult. He's been high maintenance, especially at the end
of his reign in Green Bay. But now it's the
new and improved version. Like Jared just said, this is
the Aaron Rodgers manifesto. This is I'm patient with my teammates.

Speaker 3 (01:26:53):
You ran the wrong route.

Speaker 4 (01:26:54):
It's okay, no biggie, this is the way to do it.
No problem. I'm here anytime you need me. I'm gonna
leave thirty five million dollars on the table.

Speaker 6 (01:27:03):
It's all good.

Speaker 3 (01:27:04):
I'm just happy to be here.

Speaker 6 (01:27:05):
How long I want to know?

Speaker 3 (01:27:07):
What's that?

Speaker 6 (01:27:08):
How long do you think it lasts?

Speaker 3 (01:27:09):
That's what I want to know. How long does this last?

Speaker 4 (01:27:13):
Because I would bet even more that what I'm gonna
bet on the Packers season win total under that it
doesn't last. The entire season where Aaron Rodgers is just
team guy, just team friendly. I think prickly, high maintenance
Rogers rears its ugly head at some point.

Speaker 3 (01:27:33):
I just can't imagine it not.

Speaker 5 (01:27:34):
It's way more fun to be the uncle than the dad, Aaron.
Aaron Rodgers was the dad in Green Bay. He gets
to be the fun uncle. Now it's Uncle Aaron. He's
he's telling jokes, all the jokes that he would tell
in Green Bay that everybody heard a million times. They're
all working on the Jets receivers. Now he's got buddies

(01:27:56):
who are cozying up next to him and doing little
celebra tory handshakes with him on the defense. I mean,
it's it's a different vibe because it's uncle.

Speaker 2 (01:28:06):
It's uncle time. He's still getting used to all these guys.

Speaker 5 (01:28:09):
Nobody knows the quirks, nobody knows each other's personalities. Everybody's
still on their best behavior. We're still in the honeymoon phase.

Speaker 2 (01:28:18):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (01:28:18):
I mean, when you get into the teeth the regular
season and this team faces some adversity and he realizes
that times ticking, not only on this experiment with the
New York Jets, but his legacy Yeah, the teeth are
going to show a little bit more. But right now
what we're watching through Hard Knocks is Uncle Aaron and
he is having a ball with his little nephews.

Speaker 1 (01:28:41):
Yeah.

Speaker 7 (01:28:41):
I think that that really hit home because I am
an uncle and my sister has three kids. And I
don't want to get too much into personal history about me,
but I was very on the fence about kids and
that being an uncle is way better than being a
dad in my opinion at this stage of my life.

(01:29:02):
Maybe I have a different opinion there, but the point
being that vibe makes a lot of sense because the
Jets right now are cool, they're fun, they're exciting.

Speaker 6 (01:29:12):
Dalvin Cook wants to go play there. David Bactiari former.

Speaker 7 (01:29:16):
Packers offensive line and I know it might not happen,
but everybody wants to go play for the Jets right now,
to go hang out with the fun uncle. And we'll
see how long. And as a Jets fan, it pains
me because I take off my analyst hat very rarely
in this space. Now for the Jets, I do it sometimes,
and I started to buy in the hype a little

(01:29:36):
bit when I was watching Hard Knocks.

Speaker 6 (01:29:37):
I'm not gonna lie. I had to stop myself.

Speaker 7 (01:29:39):
I actually stopped Hard Knocks halfway through the first episode
and took a lap because I'm like, if I keep
watching this, I'm gonna keep drinking the kool aid. And
I need to be unbiased about this because right now
the Jets have a lot of really positive things going
for them. We haven't seen anything negative. It's going to happen,
It's inevitable. Even the Chiefs last year had adversity on

(01:29:59):
their way to Super Bowl. Who is the fun uncle
going to What is he going to look like when
that adversity strikes. I don't know the answer to that question.
I'd like to think, in my bright, cheery, sunshine positive
side of the brain that he's gonna handle himself with
a lot of calmness and reaction, not react is like

(01:30:19):
he had in the past. But then there's the negative,
pessimistic side that thinks, to myself, people can only change
ten to fifteen percent of who they really are, no
matter how much they've grown in life. And I don't
know if that gene of h at receivers and be
a little bit more prickly is fully gone. And I'm interested.
That's why I'm excited for this preseason game. Get the

(01:30:42):
adversity out of the way early.

Speaker 4 (01:30:43):
Yeah, you're speaking about the fun uncle. Aaron Rodgers is
apparently the super fun uncle because this happened at Jet's
training camp.

Speaker 2 (01:30:53):
I don't know.

Speaker 4 (01:30:53):
It's a part of hard knocks. You can speak better
to it than me, Jared, I haven't kept up the
same way you have.

Speaker 3 (01:30:58):
Well, I don't know. You took a lap. You might have,
you might's. You're back. You're back, You're back, You're back.
You better than ever.

Speaker 6 (01:31:05):
So good.

Speaker 4 (01:31:06):
So Aaron Rodgers and Sauce Gardner, the cornerback who is
the defensive rookie of the year, they're doing a blunt celebration.

Speaker 3 (01:31:16):
So that's what they're doing.

Speaker 4 (01:31:16):
They're acting like they're they're putting a blunt up to
their mouth, you know, kind of like a cigarette. So
they do like this, and this week at training camp
they did it to the water girl. They they walked
up to the water girl. They took their fictitious blunts
and handed them to this water girl and she acted
like she was smoking the fictitious blunts. So that is

(01:31:38):
very fun, very fun Uncle Aaron Rodgers, and or my
mind goes I think you'd absolutely get fined if this
was a celebration in a game in the NFL. I
wonder about the NBA. They don't even test for it anymore,
they don't test for weed. I still think it would
be a fine, wouldn't it where you're promoting it. I
don't think that's what they would want, But I'm curious
if they would actually find you. In the NBA, even

(01:32:00):
they don't test for weed anymore.

Speaker 5 (01:32:02):
Well they shouldn't because in the NFL you had offensive
linemen doing kegstand celebrations and it was hysterical, So I
don't do it. I mean, this is the Randy Moss
mooning the crowd, which, by the way, he didn't actually
moon anyone.

Speaker 2 (01:32:18):
He just intimated that that's what he was doing.

Speaker 5 (01:32:22):
I think I think there's there's way too much of
this puritanical, uh feel put on celebrations sometimes. I think
it kind of like society gets looser and tighter with
the rules around celebrations, or these.

Speaker 2 (01:32:39):
Leagues do.

Speaker 5 (01:32:41):
Almost by the year, Like it seems like the rules
change every year a little bit, whether they're kind of
loosening their grip on how celebratory you can be or
tightening their grip because no, that's that's not how we
represent our game.

Speaker 2 (01:32:54):
It's just it's it's bizarre.

Speaker 5 (01:32:56):
But the line continues to move forward because what we're
moving further and from there toward is a higher entertainment
value and for more of these players to turn themselves
into stars. The NBA is a star driven league. That's
the reason why these athletes are world renowned. Wherever they go,
people want to be near them. The NFL is trying

(01:33:18):
to do the same thing. That's the reason why there's
games in Germany this year. They want to spread that
the more stars you have, the better you are. So
I think these celebrations, I don't know. They probably would
be scrutinized differently because there's a lot of different feelings
about marijuana and smoking marijuana recreationally around this country, and
it's not exactly federally legal yet, so you.

Speaker 2 (01:33:41):
Have that mixed in with the whole thing.

Speaker 5 (01:33:43):
But if you're gonna allow a bunch of fat boys
to do a keg stand, or at least act out
a keg stand in the end zone, then I don't
see anything wrong with somebody putting two fingers to their
lips and imitating taking a hit of that wacky Tobacci.

Speaker 2 (01:33:59):
Yeah.

Speaker 7 (01:33:59):
I mean, I cannot confirm or deny that. One of
my favorite parts about living in Las Vegas is the
fact that it is recreational. I cannot confirm or deny
that fact. But I will say this.

Speaker 3 (01:34:10):
Is that what happened with your your packers?

Speaker 7 (01:34:12):
Bet?

Speaker 2 (01:34:12):
Were you high?

Speaker 6 (01:34:13):
Maybe a high on the packers? And then I stinky
cheese again, stinky stinky cheddars is?

Speaker 7 (01:34:22):
So I mean, am I going to review a part
of my personality here that I have never revealed? I
think it's I think it's absurd that there it's a
it's the no fun lead guys, that's what it's called.
I understand why it's called that way. We're trying to
set an example for kids and and all that stuff.
But at the end of the day, these are human beings.

(01:34:43):
And if it's legal, I don't understand what the issue is.
And it's becoming legal in more and more states as
we speak, in New Jersey medicinally legal, New York, medicinally legal,
recreationally legal. I don't understand why it's such a sticking
point for the league. But if that's where they want

(01:35:04):
to draw the line, then that's where they want to
draw the line. There's a lot worse things you can do.
Marijuana's a plant grows in the ground, and if you
just so happen to set it on fire and be
around at Williams. Yeah, exactly, exactly. Kat Williams' bit is
perfect for this situation. It's a plant, it grows in
the ground. People use it as medicine. It is used

(01:35:28):
as medicine. Let's just leave it at this. Nobody's using
alcohol as medicine that I've never heard of that before.
So I think the stigma on marijuana, just like gambling,
has been slowly eroding over time. It will take more
time for it to be fully eroded, but it's not
if it's when, because it's legal in more than half

(01:35:49):
the states right now.

(01:36:59):

Let's dive into this. All right, we're getting trendy over here.
It's time to get trendy.

Speaker 6 (01:37:08):
As if.

Speaker 4 (01:37:09):
Yeah, Jared Smith, we'll start with you, man. Do you
have any trends that applied a week zero?

Speaker 7 (01:37:14):
Well, we haven't talked about this game a lot, but
I do think the Ohio San Diego State game is
one of the more intriguing ones on the card today.
I am fascinated to hear Rich's thoughts because I think
he can give me a better sense to what we're
going to see with San Diego State's defense, because let's
be honest, when I looked at Phil Steele's book and
I saw they only had six returning starters on defense
and including most of the defensive line, it made me

(01:37:37):
intrigued with where the numbers would be on them, especially
with the totals in addition to the rule changes that
we have heard about. So then I looked at the
trend of San Diego State with totals forty nine or higher,
and since twenty fourteen, by the way, the total is
about forty nine ish today thirty one and thirteen to
the under. That is seven five percent. And if you

(01:38:02):
shorten the sample since twenty seventeen, so the last five
seasons sixteen and four to the under when that total
is sitting at forty nine or higher. So the translation,
if it's high, let it fly to the under because
the Aztecs tend to be a bit of a ground
and pound team. But I'll be honest, this game today

(01:38:22):
is intriguing because again, San Diego State's defensive line is
you know, in flux, and I think this Ohio running game,
especially Curtis Rourke, who was the MAC Player of the
Year last year, is gonna be tough to stop. He
is coming off an injury that could play a factor.
The clock could play a factor as well, but I
would obviously lean to the under day it's in our parlay.
I bet the under San Diego State, Ohio when that

(01:38:42):
totals forty nine or higher.

Speaker 6 (01:38:44):
The trend says undown.

Speaker 5 (01:38:46):
Yeah, yeah, well, I you know, just to fill you
in a little bit from film study of the players
who are returning this upcoming season for the Aztecs and
what they've lost defensively.

Speaker 2 (01:38:58):
You really don't know where you're gonna get.

Speaker 5 (01:39:00):
This has been typically and classically the type of team
San Diego State has been, which is control the clock,
run the football, and play great defense. But I don't
know if they're going to be able to rely solely
on their defense this year like they've had in years past,
because there's so much unproven depth that now has filtered

(01:39:23):
up into starting roles for the Aztecs. They're young in
the secondary, although that's probably their most veteran area of
the field. They're definitely young and unproven at linebacker and
defensive line. So the front seven has a lot to lot.
They've got their hands full. Because you mentioned it. Mac teams,
especially Ohio, strong running game, really talented quarterback in Christian York.

(01:39:46):
So I'm very excited to see what this matchup looks
like myself. But yeah, classically that's been the case with
the Aztecs. We'll see how the trend holds up today.
One trend that I'm spotlighting today.

Speaker 2 (01:39:59):
Is Hawaii on the road.

Speaker 5 (01:40:01):
Hawaii has gone under in the first half total in
their past four road games to finish out the twenty
twenty two football season, and we head into we head
into this football season, it'll be interesting to see if
that continues to hold. I think when they're on the road,
they are slow starters. It's a lot of travel, it's

(01:40:23):
a lot. It's a lot on a team to rack
up that mileage over a long season. So we'll see
what happens on the road this weekend. And then the
other thing in general, unders across the board. We started
the show talking about it. We sprinkled it in the
second hour as well. I think unders are going to
be the flavor of the day in general because of

(01:40:43):
the rule changes to college football, expediting things with the
clock not stopping after first downs.

Speaker 4 (01:40:50):
You know, if I could complain for a second. Yeah,
it really stands out. In week zeros there aren't that
many games. There are seven games, and as you're saying
at Rich, you're talking about the Hawaii Vanderbilt tilt. Yeah,
and I'm like, I'll check that out. Oh it's on
SEC network. Guess I won't, you know what I mean, like, yeah,
that was the of the day USC. No one's gonna

(01:41:12):
watch that back twelve network, Like a lot of people
aren't gonna see that one. So when you have so
few games, when it's a normal college football weekend, and
you're like, oh, I'll check out this, you know, mediocre matchup,
Well it gets lost in the shuffle. You're like, whatever,
I got twenty other options, no, biggie. But in week zero, man,
that really stands out.

Speaker 7 (01:41:31):
How are there no noon games today? Come on college football?
We want a game right when we get off the air.

Speaker 2 (01:41:36):
Yeah, we're counting down to kick off.

Speaker 6 (01:41:41):
Hours till notre Name starts. Now.

Speaker 7 (01:41:42):
Granted that's it's in Ireland, so it's probably a pretty
random location for a game, but let's have yeah fun today.

Speaker 4 (01:41:49):
You're gonna have to get down with I don't know
Guardians blue Jays in the means.

Speaker 7 (01:41:53):
I'm looking at the Yurpy Nurfy card right now. So
that's where that's where I'm at with my day.

Speaker 3 (01:41:57):
I'll tell you though, real fast. Well you're talking about
out jared.

Speaker 4 (01:42:00):
When you throw out a trend and you say this
is it seventy five percent of the time, and it's
not three out of the last four, you know what
I mean?

Speaker 3 (01:42:08):
When you're saying it's.

Speaker 4 (01:42:09):
Thirty something and eleven or whatever it is, the antenna
it raises, it raises when you say that.

Speaker 2 (01:42:18):
Oh man, I'll tell you what this is gonna be.

Speaker 5 (01:42:21):
This is gonna be a long season thinking about one
of the two of you guys scarfing down some corgan zola.

Speaker 7 (01:42:27):
See I love cheese all the time. How about Yarlsburg
Yarlsberg guy.

Speaker 2 (01:42:33):
There was that a Swiss?

Speaker 3 (01:42:35):
Yeah, it's not a good bet. If you're a It's
like a reward, you know what I mean.

Speaker 6 (01:42:42):
A chunk of it just right to the dome.

Speaker 7 (01:42:46):
Probably not as appetizing as when I spread it on
my various meats and charcuterie board that.

Speaker 2 (01:42:51):
I like to gabble with sometimes.

Speaker 10 (01:42:53):
Oh you are jackpot doesn't go crazy in your next
level funny classy guy, he's got oh, I have a
fig spread that's delicious, absolutely smoke Dolmonds.

Speaker 4 (01:43:05):
Speaking of classy, it writes itself, there's one Isaac Loewenkron
who actually wrote the book on class You can check
it out on Amazon here.

Speaker 3 (01:43:19):
He is with the latest ISLA what's going on?

Speaker 8 (01:43:21):
Most of it, in fact, had to do what happened
last year in the college football game in Ireland.

Speaker 1 (01:43:27):
Do you remember, guys?

Speaker 8 (01:43:28):
It was Nebraska and Northwestern and the credit card computers
all went out, so they had to give away beer
to all man.

Speaker 5 (01:43:40):
That's right, hey, didn't we have like a line on
whether or not Nebraska was going to leave Scott Frost
in Ireland?

Speaker 7 (01:43:49):
They just left him on the side of the road
to Nebraska, like eight weeks later, memories.

Speaker 8 (01:43:55):
I think that was one of the greatest greatest experiences
in all of sports. That was one year ago tomorrow
between Northwestern and Nebraska in Ireland. Will lightning strike twice?
I guess we'll find that out later today. Guys, what's trending?
Just a bizarre development in a story we've been following

(01:44:19):
throughout the day. We have new developments to share with
you now. Today, the governing body of soccer FIFA provisionally
suspended Spain Football Federation president Luis Rubializ for ninety days
after a non consensually kissed Spain player Jenny Hermoso on
the mouth moments after Spain's victory in the recent World

(01:44:42):
Cup final. Well, the Spain Football Federation has just doubled down,
issuing a bizarre statement calling Hermoso a liar in bold
face type and then going on to accuse Hermoso of
being abduceda by Spain's player union ab ducda literally translates

(01:45:07):
to abducted. One more development, all of Spain's assistant coaches
have just resigned in solidarity with player Hermoso, in part
saying that for pr purposes that they were forced to
sit in the front row of a press conference where
President Rubiales was defending himself. All that going on today

(01:45:31):
in this developing story in the sport of soccer. Meanwhile,
in basketball and Team USA's opening game of the World
Cup of Basketball today, they fell behind New Zealand early
fourteen to four, but they recovered for a ninety nine
to seventy two victory. And finally, Roster cutdown Day in
the NFL officially on Tuesday, but so far today the

(01:45:55):
Carolina Panthers have released eleven players, including quarterback Jake Lowton
and a linebacker by.

Speaker 3 (01:46:01):
The name of Bumper Pool.

Speaker 8 (01:46:05):
Why didn't anybody tell me there was a guy out
there with the name Bumper Pool?

Speaker 3 (01:46:09):
Back to you, Arkansas man.

Speaker 1 (01:46:11):
Yeah, yeah, and that's his real name too.

Speaker 10 (01:46:14):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (01:46:15):
It's Fox Sports Radios Countdown to Kickoff presented by bet MGM.
Hey choose a team to win each week to stay
alive in the bet MGM Football Survivor Pool Challenge. Once
you've selected a team, they cannot be used for the
remainder of the season. Be the last player standing to
win the grand prize of one hundred thousand dollars bet MGM.

(01:46:36):
It's also offering some of the best odds in the
market for NFL futures and the first TD prop this season,
log in and Win with the King of Sports Books. Today,
man now Ilo mentioned roster cutdown Day is Tuesday. Kind
of interesting because that's also the same day the Indianapolis
Colts have said you have until Tuesday. Jonathan Taylor, stud

(01:46:58):
running back to find a trade and so it's two things.
It's the roster cut down and it's also more importantly
for Jonathan Taylor, who's on the pup list right now,
that is the day that players must be either activated
or placed on reserve pup where you would at least
miss the first four weeks. So interesting timing as far

(01:47:21):
as it relates to Jonathan Taylor. There's been a bunch
of teams sniffing around. Reportedly there have been two teams,
including the Dolphins, that have offered the Colts some compensation
to get the running back. Seems like he's gonna be gone.
Do you have a guess as to where Jonathan Taylor
will take his first nap in Week one or I
don't know, if he's on the pup list week five

(01:47:43):
or whatever, Where's he taking his first nap?

Speaker 3 (01:47:46):
Regardless of the week this season, it's gonna be.

Speaker 5 (01:47:48):
With the Colts unless there's a major injury somewhere, and
especially with a team that has cap space, because he's
gonna be looking for a big old extension. I just
think it's most likely going to be the situation that
I feel like it's going to be most likely in
Las Vegas with Josh Jacobs is what team right now

(01:48:11):
is looking to pay something to the tune of ten
plus million dollars for a running back.

Speaker 2 (01:48:17):
I mean, name the team.

Speaker 5 (01:48:18):
I can't think of a single one that would be
interested in a deal like that right now. Maybe earlier
in the offseason, I could have made an argument somewhere,
but a lot of these rosters are getting set. A
lot of these franchises are not looking to add, They're
looking to trim the salary cap they're using, just in

(01:48:39):
case there's an emergency that comes up somewhere down the
line where they need some cap room.

Speaker 2 (01:48:45):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (01:48:45):
So I think most likely Jonathan Taylor is going to
take snaps right where he is right now, which is
in Indianapolis.

Speaker 7 (01:48:54):
I agree, and I think a lot of the discourse
that we're hearing is probably jockeying from both sides, trying
to get the best deal possible. My guess is, if
it was gonna happen, it would have happened already. I
don't think Tuesday's deadline really matters to me. This has
been brewing for weeks now, and the fact that it

(01:49:17):
hasn't happened yet tells me that.

Speaker 6 (01:49:19):
It's probably not going to happen. Before the season starts.

Speaker 7 (01:49:21):
Now, after the season starts, someone gets hurt, movements, running
backs go down, teams get desperate.

Speaker 6 (01:49:30):
That's a different story.

Speaker 7 (01:49:31):
But I don't think Tuesday's deadline is going to be
this line dividing line. I think it could still happen afterwards. Frankly,
if the Colts get the right off or after the deadline,
they'd be foolish to turn it down. I think the
deadline was created because they wanted some of that urgency
and they wanted this to get done. But I don't
think it's going to And I agree with Richard Steak.

(01:49:53):
I think he takes his first snap of the year
if he's on the field, but he will be on
the Colts roster come Week one.

Speaker 4 (01:49:58):
I disagree with you guys. I disagree with you guys
for a couple of reasons. I think that this has
played out in such messy fashion throughout the offseason. It's
not the same thing as Josh Jacobs. You don't have
Mark Davis tweeting like Jim irsay did like tough running backs,
We got a CBA stop bellyaching about getting more money.

(01:50:20):
You didn't have Mark Davis say, hey, when I'm dead
and when Josh Jacobs is out of the league, no
one's gonna miss us like you didn't have Mark Davis
doing any of those things, and that matters. That's why
the relationship between the Colts and Jonathan Taylor is so strained.
And you look at Jonathan Taylor being younger, I think
that being what twenty four years old, that's more appealing

(01:50:43):
to other teams that have already been a couple of
trade offers. So I think he will be gone if
it's Colts or the field where he's gonna be taking
his first nap. I would absolutely take the field. If
you're specifically asking me who it's gonna be, it might
be my fins. I don't love them giving up even
more draft picks. They're becoming the Rams with FM picks.

(01:51:05):
It's Tyreek Hill, it's Jalen Ramsey, it's brad Lee. Shup,
Now we're gonna add Jonathan Taylor. How many picks are
gonna have? You gotta have some draft picks along the way.
But they are not dynamic at running back, and they
might say let's go all in and depending on what
they could get Jonathan Taylor for let's say it's a
three and a seven. I don't know what it's gonna

(01:51:26):
end up being, but they might talk themselves into that.
I don't think he's taking another snap for the Colts.
I'll be surprised if that's the case.

Speaker 2 (01:51:32):
Yeah, what would you set.

Speaker 7 (01:51:33):
The line, Brian on field versus Taylor? You know, Colts,
everyone else? What do you mean you think it's a
favorite that he's gone?

Speaker 4 (01:51:42):
I mean the betting line and what I think is
a lot different, you know what I mean? Like that's
fair my I think if I'm betting, I think there's
a better chance he's elsewhere than with the Colts. But
what the betting line would be, I really don't know.
I think it might at this stage because it's been
so personal. I think it would be minus money on

(01:52:04):
the field, but probably just slightly, is my guess.

Speaker 3 (01:52:08):
You have a guess on that.

Speaker 7 (01:52:09):
I think the field would probably be a slight underdog,
but not heavy. I would say coin flip on both sides. Yeah,
that would be my guess.

Speaker 2 (01:52:16):
Yeah, I agree with you.

Speaker 5 (01:52:17):
I think the margins are relatively slim here because you're
talking about thirty one other teams versus the one he's
currently playing for, but that one he's currently playing for,
he's under contract with. And even though contracts in many
sports leagues aren't as meaningful anymore, in football, they are

(01:52:37):
to a certain extent, and especially at certain positions, and
running back is one of them. I mean, just look
what the Steelers did to Le'Veon Bell, and now I
say the Steelers did to Le'Veon Bell, he also held out,
so a different situation. Look, that was his second franchise tag,
not even his first one, and Jonathan Taylor isn't being tagged.

(01:52:58):
He's under contract, so we're talking about completely different things.
But but technically, all these actions he's using is to
preserve his health. If he's not going to be remunerated
the way he wants to, you know, if he if
he feels like he's not being valued appropriately, he's going
to continue complaining about this ankle until the Colts budge.

(01:53:21):
And I don't know if that means he's gonna be
okay signing a contract like Austin Eckler did, where they
basically boosted his escalators and gave him a little little
more taste of the incentives to make him happy.

Speaker 2 (01:53:35):
Ish, is that going to be what it takes?

Speaker 5 (01:53:38):
But I kind of feel like a middle ground will
be struck at some point between the Colts and the
and the and the player and and if there there isn't,
then this is gonna be This could be a very long,
frigid season for both sides.

Speaker 7 (01:53:55):
Yeah, I think the Bears might have a bit of
a of a of a say in it, at least
the core to some of the rumors that I'm hearing
and some of the other odds that are posted on
which team specifically he might get traded to. The Broncos
and the Rams are also in the mix, but I
don't see those those two things playing out. I think

(01:54:16):
I think Miami does make the most sense. It will
certainly help Brian's win totally over if he gets traded
to Miami, that's for sure, certainly not gonna hurt.

Speaker 6 (01:54:23):
But I would say coin flip right now.

Speaker 7 (01:54:27):
He's an Indy maybe and a slight lean to that side,
but I would not be surprised based on the discourse
if he gets moved. I just don't think Tuesday's deadline matters,
like if they like, for example, what if there's a
major injury that takes place in Week one to a
running back and then the Colts get a great offer.
Are they gonna say no because the deadline has passed?
Like that just makes no sense to me.

Speaker 4 (01:54:47):
It's one of those this would benefit us. This is
not like a firm like Setting Stone. No, of course,
this is a sliding scale, if you will, in terms
of the eight that he gets moved. If he does
get moved, Hey, we got a lot more to go.
We've got Rich Ornberger, Penn State, all American. We've got
Jared Smith FSR betting analyst.

Speaker 3 (01:55:09):
I'm Brian. No, We've got picks the Lore coming up next.

Speaker 4 (01:55:13):
We have tweaked our system where Jared Smith does not
get strike four this year. You got strike four last
year he had four picks and a three hit. Then great,
you got an extra swing up there like he struck
out on.

Speaker 6 (01:55:25):
The ballot box.

Speaker 2 (01:55:26):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (01:55:27):
Yeah, and the umpires no, no, no for you.

Speaker 4 (01:55:29):
Jared Smith. You get strike four, you strike four over.
So we have tweaked our format. All of us just
get three picks. That helps our odds. Here, Rich, so
we will give you our first batch of week zero picks.

Speaker 3 (01:55:43):
That is on the way.

Speaker 4 (01:55:45):
It is Fox Sports Radios Countdown to Kickoff, presented by
bet MGM. It is Fox Sports Radios Countdown to Kickoff,
presented by Bett mgm oh.

Speaker 3 (01:55:55):
It's time for picks galore. Let's dive right in.

Speaker 1 (01:56:02):
Rapid fire.

Speaker 3 (01:56:04):
Okay, so three total picks from all of us.

Speaker 4 (01:56:08):
We're keeping track, and the winner will be exalted, the
loser will be shamed.

Speaker 3 (01:56:15):
That sort of deal.

Speaker 4 (01:56:16):
So, Jared, you have two picks right here. We'll get
your play of the day at the end. But rapid
fire style.

Speaker 3 (01:56:22):
Give us two picks right now.

Speaker 7 (01:56:23):
Yeah, two picks, and then the third pick the play
of the day officially my third. Pretty easy math, right, guys,
we can all keep up with that, all right. I'm
taking Navy in the first half today. I'm taking twelve
and a half points with Navy in the first half.

Speaker 6 (01:56:35):
Listen.

Speaker 7 (01:56:36):
I'm excited to watch Notre Dame play. I am excited
to see Sam Hartman play. But he's been playing in
a very unique offense for several years, and now he's
transitioning to a new offense, new offensive coordinator and Navy's defense.
Go look at the box score from that game against
Notre Dame last year. They held up okay in the
trenches in the running game, and I think they keep
it just close enough to cover that first half spread

(01:56:56):
and then later one of the only overs. The only
over I'm betting today is the San Jose State team
total over.

Speaker 6 (01:57:02):
Seventeen and a half.

Speaker 7 (01:57:03):
Vin Cordero, I think this Spartans offense has enough, US
is gonna playing a lot of backups in the second half.
It should be a blowout, So I think San Jose
State goes over their team total of seventeen aine.

Speaker 2 (01:57:13):
All right, all right, okay.

Speaker 5 (01:57:15):
Notre Dame versus Navy in Ireland the point total set
at forty nine. I like the under and most of
these matchups today, but this one's the exception.

Speaker 2 (01:57:24):
I'm going over.

Speaker 5 (01:57:26):
In Ireland USC San Jose State the total set at
sixty six and a half.

Speaker 2 (01:57:31):
Give me the under on that one.

Speaker 5 (01:57:32):
If the Trojans get up big in the first half,
I don't expect to see much of Caleb Williams in.

Speaker 2 (01:57:36):
The fourth quarter.

Speaker 5 (01:57:37):
That'll have an effect on the offense and Hawaii on
the road to face Vandy. The Rainbows can be slow
starters on the road, So give me the first half
under hitting that's twenty nine and a hook. So I
got Notre Dame Navy going under forty nine. USC SJSU
staying under the sixty six and a half. Hawaii Vandy
first half under twenty nine and a half.

Speaker 4 (01:58:00):
Okay, all right, I am up. Let's go with San
Jose State. This is a little risky, but you gotta
be comfortable being uncomfortable in sports betting. That's what I've
learned over the years. Give me San Jose State, the
fighting Spartans in the first quarter plus seven and a half.

(01:58:20):
USC's defense not convinced. If we put points on the board,
probably gonna be home free. Hopefully USC defers to the
second half. San Jose State gets involved, but I think
the Spartans plus seven and a half in the first quarter.
I'm looking at the Irish. Give me Tobias Mariwather. Keep
your eye on this young man, number five wide receiver
over thirty seven and a half. Sam Hartman gets him

(01:58:42):
at least forty plus in this game. And then I'm
looking at NFL preseason last pick. Give me the Raiders
minus five. Josh McDaniels undefeated in preseason action.

Speaker 3 (01:58:56):
He's six to zero.

Speaker 4 (01:58:57):
Raiders have scored thirty four points in each of their tilts.
I'll take him at Dallas minus the five is what
I'm going with.

Speaker 1 (01:59:04):
All Right, it's time for this.

Speaker 3 (01:59:06):
Let's dive in.

Speaker 1 (01:59:09):
This is the best play of the day, A touchdowns.

Speaker 3 (01:59:15):
All right, Jared, what are you thinking?

Speaker 2 (01:59:16):
Buddy?

Speaker 6 (01:59:17):
Well Rich and I are on opposite sides of the
Navy Notre Dame total. I'm going under forty nine and
a half. Listen.

Speaker 7 (01:59:23):
I think this Navy defense might be a lot better
than people think. So they promoted the defensive coordinator, Brian
Newberry to be the new head coach. I told you
what they did in the game last year. They held
up pretty good in the run. On the offensive side,
new offensive coordinator for Navy comes over for knnessas State.
I think they're gonna throw it a little bit more,
but the personnel at quarterback is really bad for the midshipman.
I think they're going to struggle in that department. I

(01:59:44):
think Notre Dame can run the ball. I think the
new rule changes are going to impact the clock.
