Speaker 1 (00:01):
You don't listening to Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 2 (00:04):
Oh let's go. Let's do this. Really fun to hear
the stinking genius Arnie Spanier my partner on Sunday nights. Now, Uh,
you get a lot of Arnie and I over the
next couple of days, because obviously you just had Arnie
with Aaron Torres filling in for Jason and Mike. You
got me coming up until five ay Eastern for a
(00:25):
Central time. Then Arnie and I are back later tonight
in Jason and Aaron's slot. Is that you breed that's
gonna be producer? Did you know that? Oh yeah, I'm pumped.
And then back in our regular Sunday slot from ten
p to one A Central eleven to two A. And
(00:47):
I just I had to laugh because I am a
and by the way, so good, so good to be bad, guys.
I was telling Mark and Brie before the show. I
had my vacation last week. And anytime that you don't
have to be up unless you're partying, anytime you don't
have to be up to this hour of the night,
it's kind of a good thing. I mean, I'm not listen,
(01:07):
I'm not trying to bite the hand that feeds me.
But whenever you can sleep at normal hours. Pretty cool, right,
pretty cool? But I even on my vacation, I was like,
I should have done the show, should have done. I
still should have done the show. Still could have and
should have. Now every one of that Airbnb would have
hated me, hated me. But I just felt like there
(01:29):
was so much because Brie, you and I the last
time we did the show together, last time the whole
band was together. The Thunder hadn't even won the title yet.
I mean, Lebron was still undecided about his future. Oh wait,
that's still a thing. Wait, some things never change. But
there was so much that happened with the first week
(01:50):
of NBA free agency and then the fallout from it,
and the ended up with the Damian Lillard saga and
the Miles Turner and oh, by the way, the Thunder
didn't have to do anything. And there's still a decisive
favorite to go back to back. But well, we'll talk
about that later. And I you know, as we hit
the air tonight. At least based on my quick math,
we're only twenty six days away from the first NFL
(02:11):
preseason game. We are forty nine days, nine hours away
from the first college football game. So the Gridiron is coming,
and I really I hated missing last week, but I
had this question that I just I carried over from
last week because it is a problem with me and
I think this is a me thing. So Brie, you
(02:33):
being a diehard sports fan, mark you being a diehard
sports fan, I'd love to get you all steak on
this and please help me out on the old Twitter machine,
the X machine. Tonight at Plank Show at Fox Sports Radio.
Bretan these twenty what I take one day off and
I forget it, Britan These twenty six.
Speaker 3 (02:50):
Twenty sixth house Coever, let's go.
Speaker 2 (02:55):
I vacation in Colorado and I like it's It's one
one of the most beautiful places on the planet. And
I've I've traveled a bit, right, but Colorado to me
and where we were. We go to a place in
Manitou Springs. It's it's in the mountains, we stay in
the mountains. It's just it's breathtaking. But it always bothers
(03:18):
me as a sports fan that I like it so
much because it's the state that houses the Broncos and
no no offense Denver fans to cover your team I'm
not the most objective guy because I'm a Raiders fan,
but like it it takes away from like, oh my gosh,
isn't this place look at it? Look at the sky,
I look at the scenery. He's like, oh, and the
Broncos live here. Then it's the same with the NBA.
(03:39):
It's like, oh, man, look at the look at this boutique,
look at these these cool little stores, and all the
backdrop is the Mountain Range. But a freaking Nugget fan,
I don't know wan to deal with that. I can
even go to college if you would like, and I
won't pick on the Rockies because I mean, I think
you guys go through enough pain watching this team. But
even college, he's like, oh, it's gorgeous, George, I'm so relaxed. Ah,
(04:03):
But they gotta deal with colorad of Buffalo fans. So again,
I'm trying to ask a question without making too many
fans mad. But is it Fairbury to allow a vacation
destination to be either minimized or you, as a sports fan,
to be affected because it's where your rival is house
and me like me going to Austin and saying, oh
(04:24):
my gosh, what a great place like completely ignoring the
twelve million homeless people. But ah, sorry, Austin, just playing.
But seriously, if you think about it, I mean it's
almost as if you can't really allow yourself to like
a place where your rivals are, right, Yeah.
Speaker 3 (04:39):
It's funny.
Speaker 4 (04:40):
I mean I was thinking, like, like, I'm a Suns fan, right,
so Suns and Lakers are kind of rivals, and I
live in.
Speaker 2 (04:46):
La Oh yeah, got me.
Speaker 4 (04:47):
And then I hate the Rams because of twenty nineteen,
after the whole thing with the Saints in the past interference.
Speaker 3 (04:53):
So I just feel like I live in enemy territory
all the.
Speaker 5 (04:56):
Time, so you live it. It's a little different for you,
tad Mark, Is that fair of me? Do I need
to let go? And we went to Denver for the
first time. Denver is about an hour and a half.
None of you people know how to drive in Denver
and so it's a little bit of a drive. So
we went to downtown Denver, which is cool, which is awesome,
which is great, And the whole time, I'm like, look
(05:17):
at that stadium over there, that's where the Broncos play.
I mean, this is gross.
Speaker 6 (05:21):
You gotta be able to separate. I gotta separate it, right,
You gotta be able to like the song. You got
to keep it separated. You got to be able to
do that and just enjoy where you are, look at
the mountains and the whole thing.
Speaker 2 (05:34):
You just can't.
Speaker 6 (05:35):
You can't allow the whole sports thing because then it
can get you all riled up and you start to
boil over like a pot of boiling water.
Speaker 2 (05:43):
You can't.
Speaker 6 (05:43):
You can't let that happen. And this is up the
rest of the day.
Speaker 2 (05:46):
Literally, and this is this shows you. I think sometimes
I need to give you evidence of how how dumb
of a fan I can be, because the whole time
that I'm thinking about the Broncos and how Denver has
suddenly become what everybody's man look out for Denver. We
got for the Denver Broncos. They might be something. And
don't get me wrong, I think they're really really good.
(06:09):
But I go back to last year when the two
and two Las Vegas Raiders were driving with a chance
to take I believe what was going to be the
time a three score lead, or at least a two
score lead, and that freaking dope Gardner Minshew basically overthrows
(06:30):
a wide. Oh yeah, it was going to be a
three score lead. It was ten to three, and he's
throwing into the end zone to give the Raiders a
seventeen to three lead and throws the worst interception I
have ever seen in my entire life. It was, in
a word, pathetic. So yeah, this shows you how terrible
(06:53):
of a fan I am, or maybe even of a
person that I am. But congratulations to Colorado. You got
all my money, man, that's for sir. I might have
a disdain for your teams, but my gosh, I love
your state. I could see myself living there all right.
Eight seven seven ninety nine on Fox eight seven seven
nine ninety six six three six nine. By the way,
Roger the engineer checks in very early on the Super
(07:15):
Secret text line says, it's always fun bringing up the
Chiefs when I'm in Colorado. They love that. You gotta
get a better team. Yeah, you know what, in fairness,
that might be a me problem. All right, that might
just be my allegiances and a me problem. So welcome
into the program. We do have a busy docket of
topics and takes for the night. If you guys know
(07:36):
what you want to talk about before we jump into it.
Eight seven, seven ninety nine on Fox eight seven seven
nine ninety six six three six nine. Okay, now then
I've got that out of the way. Pre how was
your last two weeks? It's been a minute since we've
had Well, actually, we had a chance to do the
Sunday Show and that was right after the Kevin Durant move,
so we were able to dive into that a little bit.
But how the last few weeks been for you?
Speaker 3 (07:57):
Pretty good? Pretty awesome?
Speaker 2 (08:00):
Good?
Speaker 3 (08:00):
I really busy.
Speaker 2 (08:02):
Yeah, you know, I feel like as much as everyone
and there's a few people that I work with that
the lawyer's like, oh, there's just nothing to talk about.
I'm like, dude, what are you talking about? Nothing to
talk about? Diving in a little of this college football
nonsense it's going on. I mean major League Baseball. I
heard tourists kind of dumping on MLB. I don't think
today was MLB's fault. I thought Major League Baseball was
(08:25):
awesome today. We'll get to that coming up in just
a bit. But I feel like there's a lot going on.
I think it's been a sneaky busy time in the sports. Well, Mark,
how's your as we mentioned off the top, good? Day,
fourth of July, Mark Ramsey, where does it rank as
far as your holidays are.
Speaker 6 (08:40):
Concerned, Well, the holidays have changed being a part time
employee that gets plugged in over here. I feel you
there so and when I have the downtime, I'm with
my eyes closed snapping, So that's okay. So that's the
part of my I could hear the bombs now right,
the fireworks in my neighborhood, which could take any small
(09:01):
country and in the world based on what I heard.
But on my downtime is sleep time, So.
Speaker 2 (09:08):
I am, I am. I'm with you on that. And
my kids like to remind me that I don't often
get an opportunity to do a ton on the fourth
of July because, as you mentioned, holidays, for those of
us who are part times or feelings, it's a big day, right,
because our big week, whatever it might be, because you
can kind of make your nut just on a couple
(09:28):
of days here or there. With that in mind, fourth
of July is like number one, number one on my
depth chart. I love it. And you know what, I
don't really know if I'm an overly big fireworksky, but
I'm a fatty So you get a chance to eat
burgers and brats and hot dogs and swim and drink beer,
and it's just it's all about America. But here is
(09:51):
one thing that I did want to say, because I
don't know if there's a better thing when you have
a holiday that lands either on a Thursday or a Tuesday.
Because again, this year's Fourth of July falls on a Friday,
and next year is on a Saturday. So you're like,
come on, guys, let's get that extra day. My bosses
gave me an extra day off, like the third I
was off, so it was it adds to it even more, right,
(10:13):
But I feel like the fourth of July has been
an underutilized or at least an underappreciated date on the
calendar for sporting events. I used to love what NASCAR
would do on the Fourth of July weekend. I'm a
big NASCAR guy, right, don't. I haven't found a way
to make it overly entertaining to debate it on the radio.
(10:35):
You got the Dale Junior podcast, and Kevin Harvick does
a good job, But I mean, those are dudes that
dry like me sitting here. He's like, oh man, what
do you gotta think of that pit? Stop with twelve
to go. Let me get your calls at eight seven,
seven ninety nine on Fox, Like, there's not really a
lot of I guess, talking points unless you get two
guys throwing hands. But NASCAR took what was one of
the greatest races on the schedule, in the Daytona Night Race,
(10:58):
and they took it away from a holiday weekend, and
now they've made the streets of Chicago an absolute disaster.
I'm sure for Chicago residents that are tuned in tonight
because they race in the streets this weekend. All right,
cool that it's on the fourth of July, but you
kind of had a built in America event with the
Daytona International Speedway in that race, so that takes a
little bit away from the fourth of July. I am
(11:21):
not a tennis person, so regardless of how much ESPN
tries to cram Wimbledon down my throat, I can't get
into it.
Speaker 7 (11:29):
Now.
Speaker 2 (11:29):
We used to have someone that worked with us at
Fox Sports Radio, Annie Zaderevich, and she loved tennis, and
she used to get on me when I went to
talk about tennis. But I'm like, I don't I don't care.
Everyone was losing their mind and acting like they cared
about tennis yesterday when they suspended the match with basically
you know, set point in match point and I'm like,
(11:50):
A cool, all right, are they in the finals yet?
Speaker 7 (11:53):
No?
Speaker 2 (11:54):
Is my ESPN A. I've got eighty six different wimbleding
things going on. Yeah, so I wish I was into
but I'm just not. I'll add to it the hot
dog getting contest. To me, it kind of jumped the
shark after Joey Chestnut won it the second time, Like,
what more can you do?
Speaker 8 (12:09):
Oh?
Speaker 2 (12:09):
Yeah, he's back. He ate seventy and a half. The
closest person to him had forty six and a half.
That's not really entertainment watching people cram their faces with
hot dogs. It's like we as a sports society, we
try to find everything else, but what truly should work.
On the fourth of July, America, apple pie and baseball,
(12:31):
And I gotta give credit here. I wanted to tip
my cap today on this underappreciated sports today, this underutilized
sports day, to say I thought Major League Baseball did
everything they could to get back to the old school
reference here at top fold, to get back to more
people talking about it, and again, I don't know, maybe
this is maybe this makes me a bad talk show host,
(12:54):
because I don't know if there was a concerted effort
or not. I kind of tried to dig to find
as many stories as I as I possibly could. I
didn't know if this was intentional or not from Major
League Baseball. I don't know if they looked at it
and said, man, the fourth of July from a sports
we got, we got dudes eating hot dogs, We've got Wimbledon,
(13:15):
We've got you know. I guess you could say NASCAR
has kind of gone a little bit of a different direction,
not like I think baseball needs to worry about NASCAR.
Football is still ways off the ratings dominator that is
the NFL. Hew, the NBA Summer League starts, but you know,
the NBA just crowded's champions So maybe there's a little
bit of NBA fatigue where people are talking more about
team building than they are the actual games. So to me,
(13:38):
I felt like Major League Baseball, either on purpose or
by accident, had a hell of a slate for today.
And if you're complaining that you couldn't find it or
you couldn't watch it, I mean even to that point,
Major League Baseball said, hey, you know what we'll do.
We'll give you a day free of our version of
Sunday Ticket on the fourth of July. You know, MLB
(14:02):
dot tv had a free preview all week. And I
mean I and I'm not a big I'm not a
big consumer of MLB dot tv. It's like I've had
the app. But you know, I'm in a weird market, guys.
I'm in a market where, like four teams are blacked out.
It makes you no sense. What's so I live in
Oklahoma and we've got four teams that are blacked out,
(14:22):
and I'm not gonna spend for a VPN in order
to circumvent it to watch all the Dodger games that
I want to watch when they play teams that are
blacked out here. But it was awesome. I mean I
sat and I watched part of the Pirates game today.
I was, I watched all of the Subway series between
the Yankees and the Mets. I mean, if you want
to get mad at anyone, I mean, I think you
pull back and you you look at the expert. All right,
(14:43):
excuse me the networks, because to me, it was it
was the networks who just kind of decided to say no, no, no,
we're gonna we're gonna put this this hot dog any
contests in a full day's worth of of documentaries or
I don't know, slippery steps. Look at Fox who said no, no, no, man,
we got to get our Friday rotation of those daytime shows.
(15:06):
And I don't even know who controls that for Fox.
But to me, if you're looking at MLB, I gotta
tip my cap to them, because I think within even
the matchups, got the Cups Cardinals, which is a great rivalry,
you got Subway Series, which by the way, has been
going on since nineteen ninety seven. That kind of shook
me a little bit. So for as many things as
(15:29):
baseball has done wrong and as much as they've done it,
kind of I don't know if the term would be
disassociate themselves from the die hard old school fans with
the ghost Runner and the pitch clock and things of
that nature. I mean, I think you look at the
fourth of July, I mean, even look at the history,
look at this day in sports history on the fourth
of July. I mean, Arnie's playing the Luke Garrick speech,
(15:50):
which is an iconic moment, But we're going back eighty years.
I mean, what else has happened historically on the fourth
of July? Think about it, dig into it. It's like
Mickey mannle got three, had the career hint on this day.
You know, the Steve McNair tragedy happened on this day.
I mean, there's just not a lot. So on a
day where yeah, we're about cookouts, maybe even vacations, fireworks,
(16:15):
I kind of pull back and I'm like, hey, baseball,
good job, all right. Now next year, let's see whomever
that future media partner is. If it's NBC, if it
continues to be Fox, let's get these games in front
of more people. Because I thought with at least that
maybe it's a first step. Maybe it's something that they've
tried to do in the past and they just haven't
(16:36):
had the right matchups. But I'll challenge anyone that sits
around and complains about not getting enough baseball or not
seeing enough baseball. If you sat and you watched the
Yankees Mets game today, like I did, it was freaking awesome.
It was a fun day. So I don't know, I
don't know that we've used or had a lot of
(16:57):
Baseball Talk on this year program. And I don't know
if we will beyond the fourth of July, depending on
what the trade deadline looks like in like thirty days
from now, but I thought for it today. I give
the old a for effort to Major League Baseball for
doing everything it could and can you know, outside of
getting the ESPNS and the Foxes to step up and
(17:18):
maybe put a game on in their regular spot or
in primetime, but I thought MLB TV did a great
job and giving it for free. Hey listen, giving that
for free YouTube. I'm looking at you right now with
this five hundred dollars price tag on the Sunday ticket.
You know what was great about Direct TV? Do you
know what they would do the first Sunday of the
NFL season. They'd give you the Sunday ticket for free.
(17:40):
Now that you're basically forcing me to go to take
out a second mortgage on my home to pay for
Sunday ticket, why not take a little bit of a
page out of the old school DirecTV and maybe the
MLB Dot TV book and give us a day just
to day all right? When we come back, got some
football stuff to get to. We had an extension in Pittsburgh.
That's left me scratching my head. College football. Tonight, we
(18:03):
had a very interesting conversation here on Fox Sports Radio
that I think we need to revisit and oh yeah, Brion,
I've got an entire reworked Sun's roster to dive into
and we'll do it all on a busy night of
the Plank Show. Right You're on Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 9 (18:18):
Fox Sports Radio has the best sports talk lineup in
the nation. Catch all of our shows at foxsports Radio
dot com and within the iHeartRadio app search FSR to
listen live.
Speaker 2 (18:30):
Oh man, I love the Fourth of July weekend, but
I think it's fair to say it's never really been
a massive sports weekend. If you're into Wimbledon, it's big
time because you got tennis. If you love baseball, you
all right, So it's a regular day in baseball. Now.
To give credit to MLB, they've tried to step up.
(18:50):
See I've always looked at the Fourth of July as
this too. It's the weekend where you can truly start
thinking about football. When it's done. As soon as you
wrap up the Fourth of July weekend, you kind of
get to move away from Aaron Aaron Rodgers quarterback conversations
(19:15):
overly dramatic conversations about collusion that have been all over
Pro football talk this week. You can you can move
past generated debates, right you kind of start getting to
where you get some evidence, you start. Yeah, for instance,
I'm gonna just be honest with you guys. We'll have
probably a little bit of a generator and I hope
at least to some of your phone calls at eight seven,
(19:36):
seven ninety nine on Fox tonight talking about the Steelers
and the extension for Omar Khan. But in like a
week from now, teams are going to be reporting for camp,
and in twenty six days we'll have the we'll have
the exhibition opener. You know, you'll have the what is
it the Chargers and the Lions in the in the
(19:57):
Hall of Fame game? Is that right? Does that sound
right to you? Oh? Look, get me. Memory has been okay,
been a little bit rough this week. I'm forgetting a
lot of stuff. Man, old age sucks. Probably having about
fifteen bud Heavies doesn't help too much throughout the weekend.
But my point is I love the fourth of July,
and I think part of the reason why I've fallen
(20:18):
in love with it is because it truly signals, hey, bro,
football is around the corner, not really an end to
the summer. Maybe in some ways, kind of the quarter pole.
It's like we're approaching down the stretch they come, which
is August, even though it's still going to be one
hundred degrees whenever we're playing games in late August and
(20:38):
in it September. But especially on the college side of things,
I mean, I live, eat, breathe college football. I live
in a market where college football is king. Don't don't
give up on me, Shady Sean. I'm not going in
on college football here, buddy. You don't have to crush me.
But I'll say, we've spent so much time talking about
everything in college sports, but the games we really truly do.
(21:01):
It's conference realignment. It's it. You know, Aaron and Arnie
had the agent for the Ojo kid that just got
a five million guaranteed contract over three years. You know,
I still don't know how that works with rev share.
I mean, they're just giving him, like, what that's pretty
high percent of your of your budget, of your roster,
right whenever you talk about the salary cap. But I mean,
(21:22):
we're talking about salary caps, and we're talking about rev share,
and we're talking about still a Texas state team that's
in San Marcos, Texas that is freaking in the PAC twelve,
now right, I mean, make it makes sense. But we
finally get to start thinking about the games. We don't
have to debate, Oh, what's the playoffs gonna look like?
It's gonna be twelve teams? Sixteen to eight team? Is
(21:44):
there gonna be four automatic bids or just five? What's
it gonna look like? Who's who's really got the power
the SEC or the big ten? In your calls? You know,
it's just now you start cresting that hill where you
can see the sunlight, you can say, all right, I
see the sea is coming. So fourth of July. That's
what it's all about to me. Now, before we get
(22:06):
to your calls coming up at eight seven, seven ninety
nine on Fox and I see you lining up eight
seven seven nine nine six sixty three sixt nine, Brie,
I have so many Phoenix suns slash, I guess now
Laker related questions for you. But before we dive into
like the post Durant era, which boy Kevin Durant's left
(22:28):
a couple of places where you just ugh, you obviously,
this is the anniversary. We are, what nine years, ten
years since Kevin Durant left Oklahoma City for Golden State,
and he won a couple of titles, but ten years later, look, okay,
soe just won a title. Whenever. We've kind of left
them for dead the decade after he left. But he's
(22:49):
out in Brooklyn and now in Phoenix. It's not the
most glowing reviews of his time there. But I'm just
I'm curious, what have you made first of the whole
that Phoenix in some people's eyes got in others that
they did not for Kevin Ram because I kind of
like Pari Smith a little bit. I think he's pretty good.
What do you think?
Speaker 4 (23:08):
Yeah, I mean I think a lot of people are
trying to convince themselves on Jalen Green.
Speaker 2 (23:14):
I said to Barik Smith, I'm sorry, right, Jaalen Green,
I don't.
Speaker 3 (23:18):
No, Yeah, And so I feel like it's funny.
Speaker 4 (23:20):
I feel like we're at this point where we're just
trying so hard it's like delusional a little bit. I'm like,
oh no, no, actually, you know, Jalen Green is gonna
be Oh yeah, okay, yeah, and so like we're at
that point and I don't I'm so concerned about Bradley
Beale's contract and like what we're gonna do with him?
Speaker 2 (23:38):
Are they just gonna pun him? Or am I think so?
Speaker 1 (23:40):
Yeah?
Speaker 4 (23:40):
I think I think he's gonna get bought out, like
that's or yeah, I think that's yeah and so and
then I'm just at a point too where like Devin Booker,
if I'm him, I don't I never want to think
like what are you doing with like what are we
doing here?
Speaker 3 (23:55):
Like what's the point right in his career?
Speaker 4 (23:58):
And maybe he can go somewhere else and win because
I just like I would never look at that roster.
Speaker 3 (24:02):
And think like, hey man, we're like a fifth seed.
We're going to be a fifth seed in the West.
Speaker 4 (24:07):
Like there's no way that I look at this roster
right now and think that, you know, that's it's tough.
Speaker 3 (24:11):
I'm not happy.
Speaker 2 (24:12):
Now, let me pose the other side of this, where
you are an expert. Okay, there are a lot of
fans of the Purple and Gold who are getting cold.
Speaker 4 (24:22):
DeAndre Ayton about and oh man, Chris, go ahead, I
am so excited. I am like I am, Like, I'm
not like a reality TV show girl like I wish
I was. Like the Real Housewives seemed really interesting to me.
I just can't get into it. But that is going
to be so much fun to watch it. I'm gonna
be so happy to be here. I don't know, like
I almost want to like become like a credentialed like
(24:45):
Laker person, or like I want to go, like I
want to go to everything I want to see. I
just want to go to the post game. I don't
care about the games, but I want to see, like
JJ I wanted all the passive aggressive comments about effort
and everything. I mean, DeAndre Ayden is the worst player
that can like pair up with like a JJ Reddick team.
Speaker 2 (25:03):
Okay, I truly do.
Speaker 3 (25:05):
Feel that way. And everybody's like, oh, well, it's a
change of scenery. He's gonna fit in great. It's coming
to la it's gonna be oh my gosh.
Speaker 4 (25:12):
You know how many video game conventions are going to
come into town, and he's just gonna be there and
he's not gonna show up to practice. He's the most
inconsistent basketball player I think has ever lived.
Speaker 6 (25:22):
Like, honestly, I I kind of thought that.
Speaker 2 (25:29):
The change of scenery might be a good thing. Okay,
so no, no, no, I'm not. But then I started
reading a little bit and I was like, I get to,
I get to I can't wait to hear what Brie
has to say on Friday Night. It's and then everyone's like, well,
just wait till he gets around Lebron James and that
work ethic. And then now and you're like, well, is
(25:50):
Lebron even gonna be there? And I mean, what's his work?
I'll never question Lebron james work ethic by any stretch
of the imagination. But I mean, you've already got Rich
Paul with the passive aggressive, you know kind of comments
that are out there about his futures. So I don't know, man.
I still think it's wild that Lebron has played with
nine first overall picks in the NBA draft. That's pretty wild,
(26:15):
and at different times in their careers. You know, Shack
whatever he played with the mc cleveland was not the
same Shack that was the number one overall pick by
the Magic. But I guess what I realized more than
anything else is you're not bringing in even if I
use the term prime DeAndre eight, and you're not bringing
in the number one overall pick in the draft. You're
(26:35):
bringing in a dude that I mean, he missed a
game because he couldn't get out of his driveway whenever
he was snowed in, and everyone's like, hey, we're gonna
come get you. We got She's like, no, man, I'm
snowed in. You can't get me, so don't. I don't
know what to make And you mentioned that apparently he's
got this addiction and I just use that term probably
unfairly to video games, right, But you're not saying we
should be overly excited. It's like your fans with this.
Speaker 4 (26:57):
No and it's like, oh what you know what Jackson
hates is just so bad, So we're just so excited.
And I'm like, okay, that's so. That's the that's the comparison. Yeah,
that's that's where you're trying to convince yourself.
Speaker 3 (27:08):
Of Jackson Hayes is just so bad. So it's just
so excited. And it's eight million dollars, it doesn't mean anything.
Speaker 4 (27:13):
It's like, okay, he's still a roster spot though it
doesn't matter. It's eight million dollars.
Speaker 3 (27:17):
It's like nothing. I think it's the mle or whatever.
Speaker 4 (27:19):
But I don't know. I just I'm excited. I'm excited
to see the chaos that's gonna come out of it.
Speaker 2 (27:24):
Well, listen, here's the thing. Let's be very clear here, Breeze.
Excitement Laker fans is much different than your excitement. Her
excitement is to watch it burn to the.
Speaker 3 (27:33):
Ground, to the ground.
Speaker 4 (27:37):
And I'm not usually that kind of person, Chris, I'm
really not.
Speaker 3 (27:40):
I really am not. But I think just watching it
from the beginning of people like, oh wow, oh wow,
he's getting bought out by Portland. Wow, he's gonna come
to La Okay, here we go.
Speaker 4 (27:50):
And then it's like and then it happens, I'm like,
oh my god, you.
Speaker 3 (27:53):
Guys are excited about this, Like, really, you.
Speaker 4 (27:56):
Think that the purple and gold is just he's gonna
walk in and then he's magically gonna gain a work ethic. Okay,
you got it, you got it. I just I can't
wait to see it not come into play. But i'd
be okay, just because like the whole JJ Reddick thing too.
I guess maybe that's also it's being kind of a
hard ass. Yeah, he's gonna look at DeAndre Ayton and
be like my son's teammates, the eight year old. My
(28:18):
eight year old son's teammates play harder than him. He's
gonna wish he was back in Brooklyn coaching his son's players.
Speaker 3 (28:24):
Like, I don't know, that's just me, that's.
Speaker 2 (28:26):
My thing, I think. So I get odds. There's different
sports books that every single time there's a major story,
their goal is to have you to talk about them,
So they'll send out these odds and these stories to you.
So moving real quick before we grab a break, and
then it sure, guys calls the rest of the hour
(28:47):
and the rest of the morning at eight seven, seven
ninety nine on Fox. I got odds in the inbox
late last week, well actually it was early this week
on Lebron James Next landing spot. And I found it
interesting because, like I thought, the opting in with the
fifty two million dollars this year should have been in
(29:10):
ball games, like, hey, you're in, You're good. And then
all of a sudden, it's like, well he wants to
play for a championship. Well I don't about you, guys.
You know, I understand now we've reached this point in
sports where we go ahead, and I love Jeff Schwartz,
but he's as guilty as anyone. You're ending team's chances
at doing anything before the season even starts. Well, the
Steelers are't gonna win anything this year. It's like, well,
I mean, you never know, well, you're not gonna do
(29:32):
And Arnie's very good. I work with Arnie all the time.
He's very guilty of this. And we're seeing it a
lot in the NBA. And maybe it's a little different
this year with the injuries to Jason Tatum and what
we've seen now with Tyreez Haliburton, or maybe Indy and
Boston maybe heading for a bit of a soft reset
in twenty five twenty six. But I know the West
is tough. But if you have a team that has
(29:52):
Luca and Lebron, we saw what they became when they
got to play together for not even a full half
of a season and they got knocked out by the
t Wolves, who got harassed and embarrassed by the thunder.
But it's still Shaney. You get a pretty good big
in there, and I think they've got something. So people
and even you know, you got the agent who comes
(30:13):
out and says, well, he wants to compete for a championship.
I'm not counting out anyone right now. I mean, hell, guys,
the thunder were the one seat last year, didn't even
play on Christmas. This year, they had the greatest regular
season we've seen this side of Steph Curry whenever he
was in his prime, and they win the title. No
one was picking. Okay, see, before the season started, no
(30:34):
one was. They had great odds. But if you look
at any expert, I don't think you'd find many they
were saying, okay, see, he's gonna win the title. Everyone
liked their roster, but no one was picking him to
win the title. Now, all of a sudden, we look
at Lebron and Luca like, well, you know, we know
the Lakers are building for the future. No, bro, you
don't build for the future in Los Angeles. You gotta
win now. And so that's why when that quote came
(30:56):
out from Rich Paul, I was a little bit taken aback.
And also, you know, you opt in for fifty two mil.
I don't really know if you care too much about
building the rest of the roster. But to the point,
sports Betting Dot Ag sent me the list of Lebron's
next team odds and I found it interesting in the
(31:18):
first five I guess you could say opportunities. The Mavericks
were the odds on favorite at five to two, which
would basically be getting the old twenty twenty Lakers back
together with a sprinkle of Kyrie Irving depending on when
he's going to be back. And yes, Cooper Flagg, who
is the greatest thing that we've ever seen in the
history of the NBA before he ever, you know, plays
(31:39):
a minute an I'm not hating. I think he's going
to be really special. But let's see it. Everyone told
me that Victor wimbin Yama was going to take over
the league. Haven't seen it yet. The Calves are the
second pick at four to one, and tonight we have
pictures surfacing of Lebron visiting the Calves practice facility. But Cleveland,
I don't think they can really make it work financially.
(32:01):
But every time I hear that something can't work financially,
guess what it magically does? It works. The Warriors are
the third choice at five to one, with the Knicks
at six to one, and according to this from sports
betting dot Age, the fifth pick are the fifth best
odds to land Lebron James the San Antonio Spurs at
eight to one. Now it's interesting. Bill Simmons came up
(32:23):
with some of his infamous mock trades, and he brought
up maybe a straight up swap Lebron for Karl Anthony Towns,
which I think could be a fascinating shift. And then
the other one was Lebron straight up for Kawhi Leonard,
which I think the Clippers might actually say no to.
But this is we're seeing something we've never seen before.
Lebron James is playing in a contract year. This has
(32:45):
never happened in his career. I don't know if I
buy would And I can't disagree with Brian Windhorse because
he's right so much. But Brie, you're telling me that
the Lakers are just looking at Lebron as an expiring
contract right now? Come on, that can't be the case,
can it.
Speaker 3 (33:00):
I don't think so. I don't think so at all.
That's crazy.
Speaker 2 (33:03):
I just I don't understand. Everything is calculated because Rich
Paul and Lebron James knows how the media is going
to spend anything that they say. But to me, when
you say, hey, we got to see him commitment to
play for a championship. But you guys went into last
year is what the two seed, three seed in the playoffs.
I mean, that's not bad. So I just felt like
(33:26):
that was one of the most passive aggressive bs things
I've seen in a long time. And everyone eats it
up because it's Lebron and Rich Paul and you're either
committed to the Lakers or you're gone. You got to
move on. If you're LA. It's not the Lakers fault.
It adds to that level of disdain and dismay for
(33:47):
the way that Lebron allows things to play out in public.
The dude can squash, I'm sorry, quash all of this
with either a simple tweet or a simple statement, Hey man,
you guys got to cut this out. Rich Paul said,
I understand, but I ain't going anywhere. I'm committed to
the Lakers. Guess what. He hasn't done any of that.
Some might say, well, he doesn't know that, to us,
(34:08):
you bet your ass he does, especially whenever you have
your agent coming out with comments like that. And Rich
Paul's the man, he can do whatever he wants. But
now all of a sudden, he's like oh, you know,
you opted it for fifty two mil. But he's got
to see you commit to go win a title. I mean,
I don't know what the Luca trade look like to you,
but it looked like a team that's committed to try
to be relevant for a long time after you retire.
(34:29):
All right, get a break, Get your calls coming up.
I see you Line, do I see a drom, I
see you Tony. Get your calls coming up next at
eight seven, seven ninety nine on Fox, It's The Plank
Show from a Friday night into a Saturday morning, right
here on Fox Sports Radio. And it's the Plank Show
right here on Fox Sports Radio. Let's get some of
your calls going. I didn't mean again, I'm not trying
to twist off on lebron. I'll leave that to everyone else.
(34:51):
It's just you can end all of this. You know,
the Bronn he's got to face the mic, sit there
and answer questions about and I'm sure he's used it.
He's done it his whole life. But you know, unless
you're just sitting around eating popcorn watching the debate shows,
or you got the iHeartRadio app up and you're tuning
into Fox Sports radio. I don't know, is this is
(35:13):
this what you want or do you want to really
truly try to build a team and win a title.
The Lakers, Lakers, they're good, They're good. And I don't
get this whole. I gotta find a team that's gonna
win a championship. Okay, go to OKAC. They don't I mean,
I'm no offense Will brun but they don't want you
right now. Go to the East. Go to the East.
(35:33):
There's your chance to at least play in the finals.
I mean, the Knicks are probably gonna be the favorite
to come out of the East next year. I just
I don't. I don't get it. Just go to Tony
and oh no, Tony dropped on. Let me get Jerome
and Charleston. What a way to kick it off tonight
by heading out to jeromar Man and Charleston. What's going
on Drome?
Speaker 10 (35:48):
Hey, you win one talent. You already starts doing all
bou don't you. We all need no sticking lebron jams.
Get him out of here, man, we don't need him.
Two hundred and eighty three million dollars shave push off
elbow you Alexander, By the way, there's too much dog
on money, A sportsman too a lot of money. He's
(36:11):
gonna make life. What seventy million dollars? What do they
do with all that money? And you think that a
lot of money? He about this soccer guy nearmar made
like a hundred million in like eighteen months. They never
talking about them soccer guys. They're over there too, and
nobody And I don't even care about soccer. I don't
(36:31):
even know why I.
Speaker 11 (36:32):
Talk about him. I just noticed that. But hey, I
don't trust two leagas man.
Speaker 10 (36:36):
You think JJ Redditt of the defensive minded guru coach,
Fuck no, man, that guy all he made a living
out of shooting the ball. He hasn't defended anybody yet, okay,
and he went to do I don't trust damn man.
They don't play any defense and until they do, you know,
(36:56):
Dodgers come to a defensive stopper. Dodgers Old Bob taking
crazy shots, doesn't get back on defense, always always on
tripping at the fires. You trust him? And DeAndre, by
the way, I gotta scattle on him for you. Three
eighty career blocks.
Speaker 11 (37:15):
But he's made a ton of money and he's not hungry.
So what do you expect.
Speaker 10 (37:19):
Man, do you expect me to trust him? No way, man, Oklahoma,
they're gonna be the favorites again next year.
Speaker 11 (37:25):
Okay, they're gonna be the favorites again next year. They're loaded.
But they're gonna have to stop paying people showing on me.
Speaker 2 (37:30):
So yeah, it's gonna it's gonna catch up to him.
Thanks good, good way to start it. Did we have
to catch a bomb in there? Or did he say? Heck? Anyway,
I gotta tell you something, jerm It shows you how
drunk right now people are for Shay Gil just Alexander
in the state of Oklahoma to where the dude got
the richest contract that you could ever receive from a
per year basis, and the response is he could have
(37:53):
been more, could have paid him more if you would
to wait another year. I'm like, hey, I have calmed down.
I mean, Oklahoma City is going to be in a
spot where they got to pay Jalen Williams, they got
to pay chet Holme Grin, and they're gonna have decisions
to make, and the way that it looks right now,
they're not afraid to get into whatever extra Apron needs
to be towed into in order to make sure that
(38:14):
you keep your core together. I'm with you, though, on
the defensive mindset of the Lakers. That's what got him
beat against Minnesota. You know you can. I've always been
a believer that I would be a terrible basketball coach,
not only because I suck at basketball, but because I
would go into any press conference and when they would
(38:35):
ask why didn't you win? My answer would be, we
didn't make shots? Oh really, so what happened? We missed shots?
I mean, shot making, to me is the ultimate key
to winning in basketball. But you gotta be able to
play some defense when you're not making shots, and the
Lakers did not show the ability to consistently do that.
They made Rudy Gobert look like Kream Abdul Jabbar whenever
(38:59):
he was playing against and they got to get better
on that front. They haven't really made a time. In fact,
they let their best defensive player slip away and drin
Finney Smith, which made no sense to me whatsoever. But
I'm with you. That's where the Lakers have got to
be better. But I gotta tell you something. I wonder
how much of this from Rich Paul. I wonder how
(39:22):
much of this is because A, he hasn't had the
warm and fuzzies from the Lakers that he would want,
and and B maybe the Lakers are kind of pushing
it a little bit, saying, man, you know, there might
be some options out there for us, if you guys
want to look at New York or maybe the Clippers
or what I mean. I don't know. It just seemed
(39:42):
odd to go from having a player opt in to
a fifty two million dollar contract with a lot of money,
and then he immediately becomes well, we don't know where
the Lakers are focused right now. It's like, what, all right,
how are one of the books I see hanging there? Column?
I'm gonna get right to your Poppy's picks coming up, Tony,
get back here, man, I want to talk to you guys.
At eight seven, seven ninety nine on Fox we got
(40:03):
baseball to dive into. I've got omar con conversations that
you had. Where's my Steelers fans at? And we're getting
you ready for a busy Saturday in sports on Fox
Sports Radio.
Speaker 1 (40:16):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio Radio.
Speaker 2 (40:19):
All right, there we go hour or two coming to
you live from the Fox Sports Radio studios and getting
your calls rolling at eight seven seven ninety nine on
Fox eight seven seven nine ninety six six three six nine.
I'm just curious we haven't had a chance to talk
a lot of Lebron. James hit that a lot in
the second half the last hour. Where you stand Laker
fans and if you're if you're a Knicks fan right now,
(40:42):
are you down with the possibility of making a push
to go get them? And then if you're let's go
ahead and keep that on the Lakers side of things
because NBA free agency, I still think is one of,
if not the biggest story going in sports right now.
If you are a the Lakers fan, are you cool
with just plenty on Lebron and getting another player? I
(41:02):
mean you feel like you need to get draft assets
for the future or no. Also, Man Breed, you really
brought people down whenever it came to DeAndre Ayton coming
to the Lakers. But I feel like, well, I think
they need that reality check.
Speaker 3 (41:17):
Oh good, because I don't think.
Speaker 2 (41:18):
I'm wrong, Like I don't think you're wrong either, because
I usually.
Speaker 4 (41:21):
I'll be like, I could be wrong, I could be
like looking very like I'm very emotional person, but no,
I kind of just think I'm.
Speaker 2 (41:27):
Right nature boy with a double shot here right, So
I'm with Brie. I can't wait to see the carnage
for the Lakers, and then adds eight and the Lakers
now gives them two Yokos to live with well for now.
Speaker 3 (41:40):
For wow, that's great.
Speaker 2 (41:43):
It's true. Unfortunately, but I am I'll tell you what.
People are kind of drunk on what Houston in Atlanta
did in free agency right now. I like what Houston
did a lot, but everyone's chasing, okay see, and I'm not.
You know, they've they've you know, Chet Holmgren battled some
injuries and I know Jalen Williams just had the risk surgery.
But I just I feel like as long as Shay
(42:04):
Gil just Alexander is healthy, I think it's going to
be tough to beat them again in twenty twenty five.
And they got topitch who I mean, it's supposed to
be something pretty special, was gonna be a lottery pick,
slid to them last year in the draft because of
an injury. I should say it was going to be
a top five pick, but slid to him and last
year's drafts and then missed the whole year with an injury.
So I just I found this to be fascinating to
(42:26):
where everyone is talking about moves made here and there,
and yet no one's bringing up that no one did anything.
It seemed that what he clips the thunder. Now you
could also add, I like what Denver did a lot,
and Denver came pretty damn close to eliminating OKC if
not for a game seven complete meltdown, and you know
that Aaron Gordon injury hampered him quite a bit. Just
(42:48):
a fascinating team building time and we get a chance
to see the fruits of those labors starting now because
the Summer League is this weekend. So NBA has been
a big topic tonight in Major League Baseball. I mentioned
this often. You're not gonna sit here, I think on
a Friday night into a Saturday morning and here a
ton of Major League Baseball game by game talk. You know,
(43:08):
we'll dive into the big stories and the trade deadlines
coming up, and then went the playoffs, and we'll debate
about who's a buyer and who's a seller, and we'll
debate about who's gonna end up being a difference maker
in the postseason. All those fun baseball conversations but from
a day to day you really got to be invested, right,
And I thought Major League Baseball tried its damn this
today to get more juice. I mean, you had a
(43:33):
lot of great matchups. Now the Dodgers forgot to show up,
but yeah, Dodgers Astros, which could be a World Series preview.
You had the Mets and the Yankees. You know, by
the way, the Mets and the Yankees game was fantastic.
You had MLB dot TV free for a day. You
gotta get the networks to help you out. I mean,
there's no reason why our friends over at Fox shouldn't
(43:53):
have had a couple games today. My local Fox had
like Judge Judy on. So you're telling me I couldn't
get the Mets and the Yankees that of like hot bench.
I mean, come on, let we at least do that.
And then finally, we are twenty six days away from
the NFL. That's the preseason, or as my man Arnie
Spanier likes to say, the preseason is the preseason Steeler fans.
(44:13):
I wanted to lay out a couple of things in
hour three, but I'm kind of moving things. I'm switching
the lineup up here a bit. I think next segment,
I want to get into a little Steelers football and
kind of how we're feeling about what direction they're headed,
because I don't know if I agree with Mike Florio
that the three year extension for Omar Khan means that
(44:37):
nobody's on the hot seat. But I will say when
you get an extension, when you get a new deal,
from any walk of life, in any industry, that is
a signal that they feel like you're doing a good job.
And I don't know that you can say Pittsburgh has
done a good job and it's roster building the last
few seasons. I mean now they haven't won a playoff game,
and like, what sixteen seventeen years? So I think I'm
(45:00):
I was very dramatic about that nine or ten years. Sorry,
got a little bit carried away, was feeling my oats.
But Steeler fans, where do we stand on the con extension?
Eight seven, seven ninety nine On Fox? All right, let's
go to Alberta. I love hearing from my man Colin. Colin,
welcome into Fox Sports. Ready, what's going on?
Speaker 12 (45:18):
Hey, Chris, Nice to be able to talk to you again.
Speaker 2 (45:21):
Could you hear your voice? Colin, how you been.
Speaker 12 (45:23):
Oh good, good, I'm I think I'm over the my
Edmonton Oiters losing the second straight sound the Cup Final.
I'll probably never watch an NHL hockey game again, but
I'm over it.
Speaker 2 (45:36):
Why would you never watch an NHL game? Just that
down about it right now.
Speaker 12 (45:40):
That was I've been watching. I was born and raised
in Edmonton, so like I'm born nineteen seventy five, so
I'm about the same age as you. And that was
like some of the worst officiating ever seen of any
hockey ever. And yeah, I know, I'll just put on
my tinfoil hat and go about how bad the officiating
(46:02):
was and that, and it's just I'm just kind of
done with it. And I don't like watching hockey in June.
You know what, The only the best thing on ice
in June is Bourbon. Whether it's whether it's the Eagle
Rare or Blanton's or just a plain Woodford Reserve. That's
(46:22):
what I want on ice in June, not hockey.
Speaker 11 (46:24):
So so I.
Speaker 12 (46:27):
Was gonna, oh, by the way, yeah, there is no
free season with Arnie.
Speaker 2 (46:31):
Let's just nah, I know, just get give him give
him as his feeling that there is He's gonna he's
gonna say there is even if it's not. So that's
the thing you got to live with.
Speaker 12 (46:40):
Yeah, there's still an administration fee involved that, that's right.
So I was listening to your uh just the first
part of the show, and you're getting kind of excited
about the college football season. Yes, and I've had a question.
I've kind of wanted to ask you it for a
little while. So because like I'm a very very casual
(47:04):
college football guy, like growing up, we got our American
feet from school can so like other than like, you know,
the Washington Cougars, who like I mean they had drew
bled so like and the Pac ten back in the day,
that's all we had. So I wanted to ask you
about so, like, when did you start watching.
Speaker 2 (47:24):
College when I came when I moved to Oklahoma. Okay,
so yeah, yeah, yeah, So I'm not I can't even
sit here and say that I'm a lifelong sports fan.
But I lived in a major League baseball city college.
I grew up in Saint Louis, so you know, and
I lived in at the time Major League Baseball, NFL
and hockey, so you know, we would be in the
(47:44):
MLB playoffs when college football would start and we'd be
talking about the Saint Louis Cardinals at the time. So
I didn't really catch and again we're going back to
the nineteen hundreds, yere breeze, and I'll make fun of me.
But I didn't really get into college football until I
was immersed in my college and I'm like, oh, okay,
so this is what house football is like, yeah, because.
Speaker 12 (48:04):
Like the one of that, I want to ask you
a questions and then I want to tell you my
thought is and then and then you just kind.
Speaker 2 (48:09):
Of go off on it.
Speaker 12 (48:11):
So like when you started watching, like I started watching
a little bit of the nineties, I can't really get
into it too much, just because I never went to
an American college, and like I've been listening to American
sports talk radio for like twenty years, so I still
kind of follow it and and and know what's kind
of going on and watch and because of the NFL Draft,
(48:34):
and I watched like the playoffs, so like in your time,
it went from where that was the weird thing in
the nineties where you know, every team would play a
bowl game and then the and then the college or
the coaches polls that determine the champion, right, and then
in Saint king About was it ninety eight or ninety
(48:54):
nine they went to the Bold Championship, Yeah, which used
the computer. And then in twenty your team that wants
the fourteen playoffs and then now the twelve team playoffs.
So if you were in control of the NCAAA and
you have the choice of whatever you want to do
of those and maybe tweak it, which one would you
want to do for the playoffs?
Speaker 13 (49:13):
Well?
Speaker 2 (49:14):
Good question? All right, So Colin, appreciate your phone call,
Thanks for checking in. I am not so. I'm okay
with sixteen. I really like twelve though, And I know
that there's a lot of people right now that are
say twelve. Well, some you made the playoffs, and there's
(49:36):
they steak and boys. These things I understand, but I
have a little I'm I'm saying twelve with no automatic
bits and you just getting the twelve best teams in
college football. You might say to yourself, doesn't that takeaway
from conference championships? Now go still have your beloved Bowl
Tians if you want to. If the Rose Bowl is
(49:58):
causing all these problem are at LEAs wise, I think the
Rose Bulls kind of come to its census, give me
a playoff the twelve best teams, and if the Big
twelve is mad because they want a certain amount of teams,
the Big ten or whatever, that's fine. Let them go
out and still play in their bowl games, and give
me twelve, the top twelve teams in college football, and
(50:20):
then we'll play them out and we'll have And in fact,
you know what, I wouldn't have a problem even saying
one through sixteen, because I'm not a big first round
by guy Colin. I kind of like the idea of
just saying, hey, go let's go, go play. You don't
need to be sitting around, and I don't want any
games off campus until we get to the final four.
(50:42):
You're playing the first round of the playoffs on campus,
You're playing the second round of the playoffs on campus.
And then when you get to your final four teams,
your two semi finals can be bowl games, and I'm
fine with it. Put those in neutral site. Higher rated
team gets to host, and those schools get that money
split between the two, with a little extra extra cash
going to the home team. So I feel and I
(51:06):
just I feel like conferences have gotten ridiculous. Telling me
right now today that COW and SMU are in the
Atlantic Coast Conference. I mean, we're talking about college You
should think that at the very least the names of
our conferences could kind of make some sense. The Big
(51:27):
Ten has eighteen teams in it, right, the Big Twelve
has sixteen. You know, what are we doing? Let's just
let's forget about Oh well, they they need to have
a set and now everyone needs to get an automatic
bid or are four for the SEC? And if you're
wondering right now, there's this conversation about four automatic bids
in the sixteen team playoffs for the SEC and four
(51:47):
for the Big Ten, and then two for the ACC
and the Big twelve each, and then you've got that
large it's kept it just no. If you want to
go with five automatic qualifiers, I won't push back too much.
But if you're gonna do twelve, just give me the
best twelve. You're gonna do sixteen, give me the best sixteen.
I don't think it's that hard. I don't know why
we over complicated. You know, Arizona State nearly beat Texas
(52:09):
last year in the playoffs. Arizona State had no business being
in the playoffs. Boise State had no business being in
the playoffs last year they won a playoff team. SMU,
to a certain extent, really had no business being in
the playoffs last year, but because we had these ridiculous
ranking systems, they ended up sliding in. So Clemson. Actually,
that might be a better example in SMU. Clemson had
(52:32):
no business being in the playoffs last year, but they
won the ACC title game. So I am. I get
very frustrated by college sports because I feel like that
there's very simple answers, and the last thing we want
to do is the easy answer. We want to over
complicate everything. Colin, Oh, hey, what are we doing here?
So wait, we have a twelve team playoff. Well that's
(52:53):
not good enough. We got to get to sixteen. They
gave They give the twelve team playoff not even a
full year before they started talking about expanding it to sixteen.
And there is no sport right now that is more
clinging to or run by TV money than college football.
So they're gonna do whatever the networks want. So I'm
through all of that. And I could talk about this
(53:13):
all night, but I won't because I don't want to
make Sean mad at me. But I'm just about the
best twelve or sixteen teams. But you've got to make
sure that the Big twelve and the ACC is represented.
Why why what is the Big twelve one that didn't
involve Oklahom and Texas and its history?
Speaker 10 (53:33):
Is?
Speaker 2 (53:33):
What is the ACC done recently?
Speaker 14 (53:36):
You know?
Speaker 2 (53:36):
Why? Get better and then maybe you can earn those
spots as being a top sixteen team if you're that good.
It's just these automatic bids. And listen Tony Pettiti. I
understand why he doesn't talk, because the guy makes no sense.
A four four to two and a half model. You're
(53:57):
gonna have a playing game for the third spot out
of the Big twelve for the ACCS, You're gonna have
their third place teams play in a championship game. Like,
what the hell are we doing? Can't wait to tune
in for that Kansas State Miami show now to find
out who the other playoff team is going to be? Said,
no one ever. Just if you got to have the
automatic qualifiers, fine, but we don't need to be giving
(54:21):
extra automatic qualifiers. This is not an invitational, it's a playoff.
This is not some sort of preseason event. This is
the championship. Give me the best teams sorry, they get
a little carried away there, bree Let me let me
let me cleanse the palette here a little bit. Colin,
thanks for the phone call. Let me get Poppy in
here with this pick. That'll help cleanse everything college sports related.
What's going on, Poppy out in San Diego? How are you.
Speaker 15 (54:44):
Welcome back?
Speaker 7 (54:46):
Exact?
Speaker 15 (54:46):
Think I'm doing good. Thanks for asking. I'm super excited,
you know, I'm happy for you. Congratulations to the Thunder
getting the first NBA championship, and you know, Scottsofser help hey.
Speaker 2 (55:01):
I will say, you know, it's kind of wild from
someone who lived here well before it became even a
professional sports town to living here and seeing the reaction
now from it, it's pretty. It's pretty amazing, man, It's
pretty and still very shocking, very shocking to say that
Oklahoma City has won a national or an NBA title.
(55:22):
It's amazing.
Speaker 11 (55:23):
Okay, well, that's amazing.
Speaker 13 (55:24):
I'm not surprised.
Speaker 15 (55:25):
I did tell you on here, Cris that that we're
going to win and I needed that energy. So everyone
that's listen on Alcloholma, thanks for bringing that energy. You know,
I noticed it's difference, So you guys were actually chearing.
Speaker 16 (55:36):
I'm not like when you guys lost, you know to
the Pacers, right, But anyways, I'm really glad about that.
Speaker 14 (55:43):
And I know you guys want to hear the pick
because we made money with Dounder last time when we
were here, we said them and we made that bling
bling and I got some pick for you guys and
honoring you for your show, Chris, I'm gonna get free picks.
Speaker 15 (55:54):
Oh, let's go, Let's go, and uh, you know the
first game is.
Speaker 7 (55:58):
I know you were.
Speaker 16 (55:59):
Passion a lot of Dodgers, and I love that the
Master Dodgers. They got spanked right uh in fourth of July.
I guess they were a little bit like hungover pre party.
They were a bitchre going with too much beers and uh,
you know they're gonna get back to reality. Tomorrow is
gonna be the revenge game for them. And we got Otani.
I love Otani and I feel that Otani's gonna help
(56:21):
the Dodgers are gonna wake up tomorrow and the money line,
we're gonna take up minus one on the money line,
and it's gonna be a revenge game for the Dodgers.
So they're gonna wake up tomorrow and another.
Speaker 14 (56:32):
Game I like, I know there's a lot of sucker
going on. And by here in Fox Sports.
Speaker 15 (56:35):
Did you get to talk a little bit more the
FIFA Club Soccer.
Speaker 14 (56:38):
There's a game at nine am, guys, so it's Real Madrid.
I get the BMD Real Madrid. I really like them
to the better teams from Europe. They won the Champions League.
They want the league over there in Spain, and I'm
liking them at minus one thing because I did the
better teams. Thatcond is gonna be early, so I'm really
liking them. And save the best for last.
Speaker 15 (56:58):
Right here on Fox Sports, right, you know, the Gold
Cup to get Mexico. And if you guys don't know
about soccer, it's like, let me kind of say, like
this Mexico, it's like Team USA and the A team
with Lebron James and all the superstars, right, Jason Tatum,
you know the one that you know, the championship right
for the world, right, and Team USA is like the
(57:21):
B team because all the A players badge up on
you guys, and you guys are listening, they said, hey,
we're too good, We're not going to go on there.
And this Team USA has done an amazing job at
the B team, players from the MLS, even some players
you know tours from San Diego SC representing you know,
the United States national team. But that's the B team.
Speaker 10 (57:43):
Mexico.
Speaker 15 (57:43):
A team is loaded, guys. This game is gonna be
in Houston at four PM. A lot of fans are
going to be in Mexican fans and not only that,
the Mexican the media for soccer, they're bashing a lot
the Mexican team. There's a lot of pressure on them
to perform. And I feel like I've either coach and
all the players on this Mexican national team are gonna win.
So so I was gonna take the Mexico Chrisprank plus
(58:06):
one fifty and they're gonna win against the USA.
Speaker 2 (58:10):
There you thanks, Boddy, all right, Poppy. I wish there
are certain sports that when I see the passion, all
I can say is, man, I wish I was into that.
I wish I was in hockey, and I wish that
I was into soccer a little bit more. Maybe I
throw tennis in that mix too.
Speaker 3 (58:27):
We're not playoff hockey though, is.
Speaker 2 (58:28):
That Wayoff hockey was fun?
Speaker 7 (58:30):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (58:30):
Whyoff hockey was fun? No lies. All right, Thanks Poppy,
We're gonna break eight seven, seven ninety nine on Fox.
Sorry to get a little bit loose for my college
football thoughts, but it's just it's pinned top right. I've
been I've been trying to harness it all and we're
just now. You know, we are forty nine days, eight
hours away from the start of the college football season,
and it's it's getting here. It's getting here, and that
(58:53):
means we're no longer going to talk about these stupid
playoff potentials. Talk about the games, all right when we
come back. Speaking to the game Steeler fans, I need
your out. I'm feeling about the Omar Con extension. We'll
give you the details and X on Fox Sports Radio.

iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcast or wherever you get your podcast.
Speaker 2 (59:52):
All right, it's the Plank Show Into the Night here
on Fox Sports Radio. Don't forget our man Bernie Fratto
coming up Saturday night. I see, I'm curious if Bernie
is already into the full breakdown of kind of how
he's feeling on NFL teams. Right, this is that period where,
in some people's eyes as still a little too early.
(01:00:15):
Let me see a couple of preseason games, let me
see a little let me see a little bit of practice,
make sure no injuries take place. And I kind of
am like that, right, I want to see a little
bit before I'm here to tell you well, I think
this team is going to be X Y and Z,
but I have some feelings about the Steelers. So at
(01:00:38):
eight seven, seven ninety nine on Fox, I am sitting
here begging for a Steelers fan tonight, begging. I see,
I've got Robert in Vegas, got Jay Boone and Maine
Andrew and Beakersfield. Give me just like two minutes here, guys,
because I don't know what to make of what the
Steelers have done this offseason. Now, the over under total
(01:01:01):
for the Pittsburgh Steelers this year is eight and a half,
which to me, Brie, I don't know about you. Eight
and a half screams of mediocrity, right. That's you're either
nine to eight or eight and nine, which means you're
either on the cusp at least in the eyes of
Vegas and the odds makers, which means you're kind of
on the cusp of being maybe a wild card team
(01:01:25):
like me. For instance, here's the teams at last check,
and this was through BENMGM. The teams at nine and
a half right now for an over under total are
the Bengals, Broncos, Packers, Texans, Chargers, Rams, Buccaneers, and Commanders.
Eight teams that I think everyone looks at as playoff teams. Right,
It's like, oh, those teams have a shot at the
playoffs this year. Your teams at eight and a half
(01:01:46):
are a much different group, right. It's the Arizona Cardinals,
the Chicago Bears, Miami Dolphins, like, what are the Dolphins
doing right now? Minnesota with the first year starting quarterback,
New England, Seattle, and Pittsburgh. So it's weird because I'm
a fan of a team where if I have the
kind of consistency the Pittsburgh hat right now, I'd be
(01:02:08):
in heaven. I'm like, oh my gosh, look where we
have a winning record. It's the greatest thing that's ever happened.
But I also understand that you are talking about a
team in Pittsburgh that hasn't necessarily been a true super
Bowl contender since what they won the Super Bowl, that
hasn't really found a way to replace one of the
(01:02:30):
great quarterbacks in Steelers' history over the last couple of seasons,
you know, since Big Men stepped away, they haven't been
able to find any consistency at the quarterback position. So
the last time they want a playoff game was twenty sixteen.
That was when they beat the Chiefs, and by the way,
(01:02:50):
I think that's what led the Chiefs to kind of
start looking at, boy, what do we have to do
at the quarterback position? They played in the AFC Championship
game that year. They haven't been to the super Bowl
since twenty ten. That was that span where they went
to two and three years they beat the Cardinals for
the championship. In eight they won it and won it,
(01:03:14):
and then they lost in twenty ten. Of the Packers
haven't been back since what was that three super Bowls
in a six year stretch that they went to won
two of them. Pretty cool, pretty good run. But we
are talking about five, eight and twenty ten, which now
when you look back then, you know those trophies are
starting to get dusty. And I look at their listen,
(01:03:34):
I count me among the groups of people and I
use that plural that really liked what they did with
the moves with the Dolphins. I like bringing in John
Ui Smith. I think he's still effective. I like bringing
in Jalen Ramsey. I think he still got a little
juice in the tank. But you know, you've heard the
promo a thousand times with Colin Coward. I don't really
(01:03:55):
know if those are like a list moves and Aaron
Rodgers is your guy who's aging and there's no one
really behind him. So I Omar Khan gets the extension,
and I don't know what to make of it, you know,
I don't know if you look at it and say, man,
he's done a great job and it is only a
(01:04:16):
three year extension, But I guess, I guess you could
say it's been a productive couple of seasons. But in
that same Veinbury, we're talking about a team who's expectation
is championships, right, So when you're talking about a squad
that hasn't won a playoff game since when I mentioned, oh, six,
I'm sorry, I keep saying that that's when they won
the Super Bowl? Is since sixteen? I mean that's that
(01:04:42):
to me is a sign of a franchise who has,
you know what, as many Super Bowl wins as anyone
and consistently has found themselves as being a team that's
in the playoffs and winning playoff games prior to this
drought which started in the twenty seventeen season, Like, what
is this it's worth an extension for your general manager?
(01:05:02):
Is this a franchise that's head in the right path?
I don't know, because you're looking at what four straight
seasons of what I would consider mediocrity in the eyes
of Steeler fans ninety seven and one, nine and eight,
ten and seven, ten and seven, without a playoff win.
Does it make sense to extend a GM if that's
what you're doing, I don't know. But Steeler fans, I'm
(01:05:27):
here for you. What do you make of it? Brie?
Are the Steelers headed in the right direction? Is it
worthy of Omar Khan to get an extension like you did?
Speaker 4 (01:05:34):
I think what you were talking about, like consistency. I
think that's what just like what fans just kind of like,
other than wanting a championship, I think they just want consistency.
And if you look elsewhere in like that division, if
you're like a Bengals fan, you're just like, what are
we doing? Why haven't we like all the drama that
happened last offseason with Jamar Chase and everything and t
(01:05:55):
Or Higgins, right, yeah, like all that drama and then
you guys have they haven't extended Tray yet. The Browns,
we don't know what they're doing with their quarterback situation everything.
I guess Baltimore is the only one that has a
clue of what they're headed in the right direction.
Speaker 3 (01:06:11):
But I think Pittsburgh there just it seems like they're.
Speaker 4 (01:06:13):
Just okay with with being just mediocre and that's better
than going like being inconsistent and crazy and going down.
Speaker 2 (01:06:20):
Right, and you're never gonna be in a spot you're
gonna be too good to get a franchise quarterback. You
you sare? I mean, look around the league right now.
And again I'm not picking on Arnie. We do shows together.
We'll do two this week, we'll do one tonight, and
we'll do one tomorrow night. But he's one of those
guys that doesn't believe you need a first round quarterback
until like his team's drafting a quarterback in the first round.
(01:06:41):
But you know, we're talking about looking around the league
right now, most of the starting quarterbacks first round picks,
you know, I mean they really truly are. And I know,
well what about Rock Party and Tom Brady. You're talking
about two guys in like twenty years that you found
beyond the third round that are anything in the league
(01:07:03):
right now. It's just it's you gotta be and you
gotta be high in the first round. So I'm a
firm believer that the Steelers are gonna be a good
team today. And if I a good team this year,
and if I'm a betting man, I'm betting that over
eight and a half, I'm taking it to the bank
and feeling good about it. But is it a program,
a team of franchise that's headed in that championship direction
(01:07:25):
that the Steelers are known for. I'm kind of buying
into the roster this year a little bit. I like
DK Metcalf the Robert Woods. But I also kind of
pull back a bit and say, yeah, but what is
the long term prognosis of this squad? Eight seven, seven
ninety nine on Fox eight seven seven nine ninety six
sixty three six nine. All right, I got a little
bit behind here. It's Andrew and Bakersfield still hanging in
(01:07:46):
their bree or do we want to move on? All right?
Andrew has been patient. I see Matt and I was
a Steelers fan. He's into but hanging there, guys. I'll
get it right to you, Andrew, and Bakersfield has won
the Patience Award tonight. What's going on? Andrew? How are you?
Speaker 8 (01:07:59):
How's it going?
Speaker 2 (01:08:00):
Great man? How are you?
Speaker 8 (01:08:01):
I'm good on the Lakers. I don't see any reason
why Lebron can't stay and we make another run.
Speaker 7 (01:08:11):
Through the playoffs.
Speaker 2 (01:08:12):
Preach not agree more?
Speaker 8 (01:08:15):
Okay? But then secondly, I just random, but I thought
it was kind of cool. When I heard Jason Kidd,
the coach of the Mavericks obviously, you know, but talk
about Cooper Flag and he's like, yeah, I want to
make him uncomfortable, you know, like bring up the ball,
be the point guard and stuff like that. I was like, well,
(01:08:36):
that's interesting, and so I think Jason kids a pretty
good coach, and I thought that was kind of cool.
Speaker 2 (01:08:42):
Yeah, And especially when you say I thinks for the
call make him uncomfortable and be the guy bring the
ball of the court. When you have Kyrie Irving, you know,
it's like there's a guy that's a ball dominant point
guard I and it's going to be a while before
Irving I think is cleared and ready to go. But guys,
I'm telling you what if you haven't watched college basketball
and you didn't care about Duke, and you ever really
watched Cooper Flag, watch the summer league games the Mavericks play.
(01:09:04):
He's really He's a fun watch, he really is. And
to make him uncomfortable. Yeah, he's coming in at the
number one pick and everyone's saying great things about him
and how he's going to be a franchise changer for
a franchise had just got knee capped, right, They just
lost their star in a trade that everyone thinks was underwhelming.
But Cooper Flags, I mean, he's that guy. And you
(01:09:26):
know Jason Kidd, it hasn't ended well for him at
all of his stops. Didn't well for him with the Nets,
didn't end well for him with the Bucks. But I
think he's done a pretty good job with the Dallas Mavericks.
I really do all right, Listen, I wanted a Steelers fan.
Let me get Matt from Iowa straight to the front
front of the line. What's going on, Matt? How are
you welcome to Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 18 (01:09:45):
I'm doing great, just got down the line off a
bunch of explosions celebrating the fourth and I hope you're
having a good.
Speaker 12 (01:09:52):
Nun as well.
Speaker 2 (01:09:52):
No, I did the same thing, man. It was God
bless our ability to fire off fireworks without injuring ourselves. Man,
So what do you make of the Steelers stock? Where
are you out on Omar Khan's extension?
Speaker 19 (01:10:04):
I'm okay with it.
Speaker 18 (01:10:05):
I think for him this three year kind of like
his first shot to actually kind of prove it because
he's kind of just now getting out from what Kevin
Colbert was doing. You know, it's a great point, and
I think he is showing something that Kevin Colbert never did,
which is aggressiveness and free agency. Talking about the DK move,
that the Pickens move, getting that drama in the locker room.
I'm not really going to count Aaron Rodgers. I think
(01:10:27):
he's just a placeholder for this year and then the
trade for Minka. I love him. I never wanted to
see him go, but the last two years he's either
been hurt or just not producing. So I understand.
Speaker 2 (01:10:37):
You know, Matt don't go anywhere. It's funny that you
say that, because I hadn't thought of it that way.
Everyone's like all the steel Florial I use my Glorial
a lot, and he laid out the Steelers are doing
things unlike I've ever seen them do before, because it
seems like they're desk. Well, no, they're doing things different
because Omar Khan has finally been able to put a
stamp on things, and maybe in this area they're gonna
(01:10:59):
be a little bit more free agency. And there's nothing
wrong with that. So maybe this honestly is as confused
as I am by this extension this quick with so
many people feeling like there's not this bright future. Maybe
it's just different in the way that he's approaching it.
And different isn't always bad, is it.
Speaker 10 (01:11:17):
No?
Speaker 18 (01:11:17):
I think it's a it's a good change of pace
for what we have been dealing with of just you know,
not doing anything the free agency, just rolling with what
we got, defense getting older, or we're just like all right,
it's another nine and eighties and Tom Ling needs a
whole lot of that record.
Speaker 7 (01:11:30):
It's nice.
Speaker 18 (01:11:31):
Maybe it's not the right moves that's see it to
be seen, but it's nice to see us making moves
in free agency while we can.
Speaker 2 (01:11:38):
Yeah, hey, thanks for the phone call. I appreciate it. Listen.
Like I said, I don't know how to feel about this.
This is one of those teams that, based on history,
you put an over under for Pittsburgh in the eight
or even I guess now nine range. I'm probably gonna
take the over every single chance I get, and I'm
probably gonna feel like they have a shot. And I
know everyone looks at the division well, you know, as
(01:12:00):
we've learned from Cincinnati, and most teams are like this.
You're one injury away from being very mediocre, very mediocre,
and I think the same can be said for Baltimore
as well. So, I mean I was a little bit
shocked to see the extension, but then to that same
kind of line of thinking, I'm not as down on
(01:12:21):
them as most people are, so I'm gonna pick the
Ravens to win the division, but intriguing to see what
Aaron Rodgers can do. All right, Oh gosh, we got
an all star lineup of callers. I see kiddies in Texas,
Mike de Leprecaun, Mike the Leprechaun. By the way, Brie,
I don't know if you're aware of this, but Mike
de Leprechaun was the star of the fifth hour on
(01:12:43):
the Ben Mallard Podcast. Have you had a chance to
listen in I know you were. You were in with
Ben most of the week, right, Yeah, I.
Speaker 3 (01:12:49):
Did see that on Twitter. I have not listened yet,
but I can only imagine what was said.
Speaker 2 (01:12:54):
My God, Blind Scott is hanging in there as well too,
So we'll get your calls coming up. I'd love to
get some more perspective on pitchurg Is. We start counting
down to the NFL season, I mean, we are twenty
six days away. From the NFL preseason and Pittsburgh extends
its general manager and an all season. That's been questioned
quite a bit, but as you put them in a
better position, I think I'm saying, yes, what's say you?
(01:13:15):
It's Fox Sports Radio, a lot of good stuff on
Twitter to get to as well. I'm at Plank Show.
That's where you can find me at Breed Denise twenty six.
I can't believe I'm remembering that without even writing it down.
So proud of me right now. Gosh, Mark, of all
the things I don't have written down, I don't have
Mark Ramsey. Oh it is at Mark, with only a
(01:13:36):
seat at Mark Ramsey six four nine five zero, easy,
easy to find us. Craig Keller writes, con getting an
extension with the Steelers is okay, only for three years,
still giving the Minka trade a little bit of the
side eye. Minka's twenty seven Ramsey Smith in their early thirties,
but Mika hasn't been producing turnovers the last two seasons,
(01:13:58):
so we'll see. I think that's when I saw it.
When I saw that trade, I was a little bit shook,
because I mean, mik if it's back, still is an
elite guy in my book, But you start looking at
the numbers and you realize, EH, hasn't quite been the
same dude the last few years. All right, let's get
to the phones. Eight seven seven ninety nine on Fox
eight seven seven nine ninety six sixty three sixty nine.
(01:14:21):
Kitty is in Texas. Good morning, Kitty. What's going on?
Speaker 19 (01:14:25):
Hi?
Speaker 2 (01:14:26):
Kitty? What's up?
Speaker 7 (01:14:28):
Hi?
Speaker 18 (01:14:28):
Love you?
Speaker 20 (01:14:29):
I'm I'm so surprised that Ben Mahler isn't on this evening.
Speaker 2 (01:14:34):
Well, Ben Maller only does the weekdays, so I uh,
I do Friday nights and then you get the great
Bernie Fratto on Saturday nights.
Speaker 13 (01:14:42):
Oh that's that's set.
Speaker 2 (01:14:43):
Yeah, I'm sorry about that, Kitty, what's on your mind tonight?
Speaker 18 (01:14:47):
I just want to.
Speaker 15 (01:14:47):
Tell you that I think that your voice is amazing
on the Stone and the.
Speaker 14 (01:14:55):
Eli Dodgers should play the Afters next.
Speaker 2 (01:14:58):
Where are we going with this right now? Kitty? Thanks
for your phone call. I just listen of all the
things I don't hear, it's my voice sounds good. I
don't need that number two. Yes, the Dodgers are playing
the Astros. I have a freaking schedule right in front
of me. Thanks for the call.
Speaker 3 (01:15:12):
Did you know that the Astros are playing the Dodgers.
Speaker 2 (01:15:17):
I'm a big fan of Ben Mahler too.
Speaker 3 (01:15:19):
As a matter of fact, I've never heard of him.
Speaker 2 (01:15:24):
Fifth Hour podcast is worth a listen because our next guest,
our next, I should say, call is a featured guest
on the Fifth Hour. That's Kittie. Thank you for your
phone call. Call more often, Mike the Leprechaun. What's going on, Bud?
How are you hey? What happened to you this week?
What happened to you this week? What were you doing?
Speaker 7 (01:15:45):
Okay, okay, let me tell you what happens?
Speaker 2 (01:15:48):
Okay.
Speaker 7 (01:15:48):
I like walking. I am about five minutes is Brian La?
Speaker 13 (01:15:55):
Oh my god?
Speaker 7 (01:15:56):
So like I walked down the street, I would do
my walk. I like my steps. I went around the building.
I went around the back. I saw the mailroom. Then
the big dude came out and accosted me and said,
this is private property. So anyway, Chris, you hard to
(01:16:16):
Fifth Hours thing, right.
Speaker 2 (01:16:18):
I haven't listened to it yet. I uh, you know,
I don't get I don't get a chance to listen
to the Fifth Hour very often. I'm not gonna lie,
it's uh, it'll be one that I will definitely listen
to though I have in major.
Speaker 7 (01:16:29):
Trouble and then mals in major trouble.
Speaker 2 (01:16:30):
Now, so listen. Don't let Ben Mallard hey get it
right here, Ben Maler, don't let him fool you. He
runs this place, okay, he never gets in trouble.
Speaker 7 (01:16:41):
He runs. No, he's a famfire, he's a nice person.
Speaker 3 (01:16:45):
Yeah, and so I want to we can.
Speaker 2 (01:16:48):
That's a good question, Brie. Why why did you come?
Were you just out walking? He thought you check it out?
Why did you come during the day?
Speaker 7 (01:16:54):
I walked past. I'm five minutes away. I walked five minutes.
I went around the studio. I wanted to see where
the studio was. And I've got a major trouble anyway. So,
brit did you get some of the candies in us?
Speaker 3 (01:17:08):
I know I did not Where are they?
Speaker 7 (01:17:12):
So I brought a major sash of candy and Ben
probably already in all the other.
Speaker 4 (01:17:19):
Yeah, because I don't see anything around, but thank you,
I'll take a look around.
Speaker 2 (01:17:23):
So how was by the way, did you have your
did you become a grandpa this week?
Speaker 7 (01:17:28):
Yes? How did you know that?
Speaker 2 (01:17:29):
Well? You told me the last time you were here.
Speaker 6 (01:17:31):
Congratulations yesterday yesterday, fourth of July, Baby.
Speaker 7 (01:17:37):
The first time Grandpa.
Speaker 20 (01:17:39):
Congratulations nine pounds and nine pounds tang.
Speaker 2 (01:17:44):
So let's let's get this right. In a week, Mike,
the Leprechaun gets costed by security for creeping around the Fox,
starts radio studios, and becomes a quite a week for
you man.
Speaker 7 (01:17:55):
Well, I'm loving La. La has I went to the universe.
So I went to the Getty Museum.
Speaker 20 (01:18:03):
I'm going to I'm doing the whole shebang when you
add back, I was at the pool all day today.
Every nice tim and anyway, I have patience beyond belief.
Speaker 7 (01:18:17):
Oh yeah, anyway, I have. I have a nice line
for b for Bree. Reality.
Speaker 9 (01:18:24):
Huh okay, so reality reality.
Speaker 3 (01:18:28):
Like a reality check.
Speaker 7 (01:18:30):
I like the reality check.
Speaker 2 (01:18:32):
Mike. You might have just brought something to the show
unknowingly the reality check like you're doing with DeAndre Aiden
right now for everyone, I'm.
Speaker 7 (01:18:39):
Going to friends. Here's my bodyguard?
Speaker 3 (01:18:43):
Is that a chicken?
Speaker 7 (01:18:44):
I brought the drunk?
Speaker 3 (01:18:46):
That sounds like, when are you leaving La with your chicken?
Speaker 7 (01:18:52):
Okay it's a tricken?
Speaker 9 (01:18:54):
Yeah?
Speaker 3 (01:18:54):
And when are you going to leave La and go
to Reno?
Speaker 7 (01:18:56):
I'm leaving La on Sunday Red Eye.
Speaker 3 (01:18:59):
And oh well, have fun.
Speaker 2 (01:19:03):
Well, thanks, Mike, I'm glad that you survived security, buddy,
Thanks for the call. Yeah, I got a note from
an unknown source this week that said, your boy, Mike
the Leprechaun just got in trouble by security because he
was walking around trying to find old Ben Maler in
the middle of the day. Oh my gosh, Mike. Well,
(01:19:25):
I will give him credit on one front. To still
find a way to end up on the Fifth Hour
after getting accosted by security is quite the power move.
I can't wait to listen to the Fifth Hour podcast. Hey,
Blind Scott's gonna kick off hour three, so don't go anywhere.
I'm pumped for that. Plus, we got Breeze three's right
(01:19:45):
around the corner. And I want to remind you to
check out the Fox Sports Radio YouTube channel. There's tons
of great videos from many of our Fox Sports Radio shows.
Just search Fox Sports Radio on YouTube and you'll see
a whole bunch of video highlights from our shows. And
be sure to subscribe so you always have instant access

(01:20:06):
happen to run across Mike the leprechaon this week during
his trips to studio Bri, I did not.
Speaker 4 (01:20:12):
I've been working all the night shifts, so I haven't
seen anybody during the day.
Speaker 2 (01:20:17):
I mean, I can understand. You see the studios, Like
when you're driving down. Oh my gosh, look, there's Fox
Sports Radio on the side of a building there. It's
that the logo. You can't miss it. Oh, they go
walk around check it out. There's a mall that's right
over o. Is there still a mall.
Speaker 3 (01:20:32):
That's over more It's like half Alive? Yeah, half Live.
The DSW just closed and I had a meltdown.
Speaker 2 (01:20:37):
Oh my gosh.
Speaker 4 (01:20:38):
What Yeah, unbelievable.
Speaker 2 (01:20:42):
I want to give one other quick note. I posted
it earlier on my social media, but I just there's
been some terrible storms that have taken place in Texas
that has led to some tragic flooding. I just wanted
everyone to know that tonight you're in our thoughts and
you're in our prayers, and I hope everything turns out
for the best. It's Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 1 (01:21:02):
Please don't listening to Fox Sports Radio Radio.
Speaker 2 (01:21:06):
Fun Day Man, Fun Show. As we hit our three

in all of our Fox Sports Radio shows live twenty

Simply search for Fox Sports Radio and you'll be able
(01:21:27):

car on your radio dial. So preset Fox Sports Radio
in the iHeart Radio app or app, and always, always
it'll pop up on the top of your main screen. Now,
I do have a non sports question here for you guys,
real quick. Pre Do you guys still have to deal
(01:21:50):
with the fireworks beyond the Fourth of July? I kind
of feel like with the fourth now in the past,
you'll still have Fourth of July celebrations on probably Saturday
and Sunday night, right, So well you'll will you still
be dealing with fireworks NonStop.
Speaker 4 (01:22:04):
You know what's funny is they started yesterday or they
started the third for me.
Speaker 2 (01:22:08):
Wow.
Speaker 4 (01:22:08):
So when I actually was coming to work on Thursday night,
I laughed at like nine o'clock and there was all
these people, and I live in like a coastal area,
and a lot of people were kind of headed towards
this little park with their like chairs and like coolers
and everything. I'm like, oh my god, it's nine o'clock
(01:22:28):
at night, what are you all doing? And I heard
that there were fireworks. I'm like, that's not even the fourth,
Like it's the third, So I geah, it's gonna be
an all weekend thing. I feel like I think it's
gonna all the time. This is weekend.
Speaker 2 (01:22:42):
I'm a big I'm a big Fourth of July guy.
We're a big Fourth of July family. We usually have
a party. We didn't this year because I'm just I've
been a nightmare of an outdoorsman. I just my pulls
a mass the yards of mass. Everything sucks. But we've
gone all the local fireworks shows, and you had one
on the third, we had one tonight, we got one
(01:23:03):
tomorrow night, and I think we even have one on Sunday.
I mean, it's been NonStop, Brey. So sorry to all
those of you that aren't big fireworks fans. I feel
like it's gotta keep going through the entire weekend.
Speaker 6 (01:23:14):
There's a bunch of schools in my neighborhood. So there's
the big celebration in the school, like their yard, the
big open area they're shooting off fireworks at night, or
just someone in the neighborhood has you know, M eighty
somewhere blowing up stuff.
Speaker 2 (01:23:30):
I'll tell you one thing. Fireworks this year. I live
in a state where you can legally buy them. Whenever
I was a kid, I grew up on the border
of Illinois and Missouri, and we couldn't legally buy fireworks
in Illinois, so you would have to cross the river
over into the I guess what would be the west
side of Missouri. You have to cross the river over
(01:23:52):
to Saint Louis to buy your fireworks. And I'll never
forget as a kid feeling like I was like Bo
and Luke Duke crossing the border with illegal fireworks, Like
put on the truck in case we get pulled over
they can't find the illegal fireworks. Fireworks laws are weird, man,
take some time and look through them. It's just weird.
(01:24:14):
Some places are all in in someplace like no fireworks
laws are unique.
Speaker 4 (01:24:19):
So people like love fireworks, like what are what am
I missing? Because I just feel like and maybe because
I grew up going to Disneyland in my childhood.
Speaker 2 (01:24:28):
Oh you didn't like the fireworks or Disneyland?
Speaker 3 (01:24:30):
No, I no, No, they were fine. I mean I think,
I just I how many?
Speaker 4 (01:24:34):
How many times can you look at fireworks and be
like wow, like, what's so special and new about them?
Speaker 3 (01:24:39):
Every time you watch them?
Speaker 4 (01:24:40):
Like I feel like if you see question one fireworks show,
you've seen them all.
Speaker 6 (01:24:45):
But when they go up high in the sky and
explodes and makes a big ball, the colors of it,
so the different colors that come.
Speaker 3 (01:24:53):
Out, different colors.
Speaker 2 (01:24:54):
My wife sent up.
Speaker 6 (01:24:55):
Some at the same time, so three could go up.
You don't see, but you see the explosion and then
they color.
Speaker 3 (01:25:00):
And sometimes there's two that go up, and there's different.
Speaker 6 (01:25:02):
Colors, three or four colors. And the way the shapes
are in the after the explosion makes it exciting for
those who like it, and the colors and the shape.
Speaker 2 (01:25:13):
I guess I'll tell you what it is for me
is how now everyone this is gonna ruin fireworks for you.
I'm telling you right now, everyone's gotta have their drone
up there now. Not talking about a drone show. I'm
talking about fireworks Like there was one time five years
ago where someone's like, I flew my drone and the
fireworks and they were amazing, got like a billion hits.
(01:25:34):
So now everyone tries to do it. So now while
there's a fireworks show, you got twenty drones that are
flying around it that are trying to get the same
freaking video the whole time. Ruins it for everybody. But yeah,
we we had a city celebration. I live around like
twelve cities, so we had our Norman celebration. We got
a more celebration. We go to Tulsi get a celebration.
It's just NonStop. We love our fireworks here in Oklahoma, bree.
(01:25:57):
So if you're missing out or if you if you
need it to be re established that joy for fireworks
got plenty of opportunities if you had down south, just
say it.
Speaker 3 (01:26:06):
So they're special there.
Speaker 2 (01:26:07):
Everyone be safe. I think my favorite tweet that I
saw all week long was the tweet that said, someone
sitting at their office right now not realizing it's their
last week with ten fingers. Pretty well done, right, Listen
Isot's Scott, He's still hanging in there. I think this
is a great way to start the final hour. Love
me some Blind Scott. What's going on, Blind Scott? How
(01:26:29):
are you man?
Speaker 13 (01:26:30):
Pretty good?
Speaker 4 (01:26:31):
Yeah?
Speaker 13 (01:26:31):
I used to buy those big M eighties. But fireworks
have always been illegal in mass Chusetts. And really, yeah
they're still legal because people live so close to each other.
You could burn someone's house down.
Speaker 2 (01:26:41):
You know what I mean. Yeah, that's not good.
Speaker 13 (01:26:44):
Yeah, so I didn't hear any fireworks. Scout was sleeping.
But dude, I got this ACC thing to tell you.
Like Bill O'Brien and Bill Belichick, if you didn't hear
their coaching in.
Speaker 21 (01:26:54):
The ACC, that's right, you're in.
Speaker 13 (01:26:56):
The BT has a game against Notre Dame this year.
BT's going to be really good this year. I don't
see how you can think the ACC is not going
to be relevant this year. I'm I'll probably go to
a lot of BC games and then this Carl Anthony
Towns in the New York Knicks. I'm a big James
Doone fan. I'm a big New York Knicks fan. And
Karl Anthony Towns I swear he's the best big man
(01:27:17):
to ever play in the NBA.
Speaker 2 (01:27:19):
What are you talking about? I swear?
Speaker 13 (01:27:22):
Yeah, he was injured in the playoffs. You know, So
this guy Tibbs.
Speaker 12 (01:27:27):
So here's why.
Speaker 13 (01:27:28):
Tims got fired. He didn't know how to coach Carl
Anthony Towns. During the regular season, him and Dolan had it,
you know, had a fight, so they got rid of him.
So Carl Anthony town played injured all through the playoffs.
You know what I'm saying. I mean, I picked this
up off of Infinity Radio Network talking to this guy,
and he convinced about it. He must have grown up
with Carl Anthony Towns because he's from New Jersey from
(01:27:51):
what I gather. You know, but the guy's seven feet tall.
He can do just about everything on the court. You
know what I'm saying. I'm all for bringing the Bron
James to New York City right now to play basketball.
It means so much for the United States of America.
I think as a country, if Lebron James goes to
New York City, it means a lot to the NBA.
(01:28:11):
I think it's the biggest move that could happen in
talk radio, just for people that do your job. One
other thing too, like the thing with fireworks, is it's
kind of a low IQ type of hobby, you know
what I'm saying, And and uh, it's the truth, you
know what I mean. Like I've used guy dogs my
whole life. My guy dog pulled me into the woods
(01:28:33):
once when I went out for fireworks. You know what
I'm saying.
Speaker 10 (01:28:35):
They're the worst.
Speaker 13 (01:28:36):
Things for dogs. But I was praying when I was
on hold for the people in Texas, like it couldn't
be more centertive. Everybody was camping, and I mean, it's
just such a terrible story to end such like a
great holiday, you know what I mean. And when you
went to Colorado, you obviously drove, you drove your family
there and color Yeah, I went to prep school with
(01:28:58):
people from Boulder. They were actually like in the like
I'm the same age as like the whole Columbine thing,
you know what I mean. So after that happened, Yeah,
Like Boulder was like real rich community. So after that happened,
Like I went to prep school with kids from that area,
So I have like a real like I love Colorado
just because there's so much off there. It has a city,
(01:29:18):
it has camping, it has skiing, you know what I mean.
I didn't realize you were from the Illinois though. I
thought you were from Oklahoma because I have like Oklahoma.
I like Oklahoma so much because it seems like it
has the most kindest people in the world. You know
what I'm saying, Like, when you took that call from
Kitty last hour, I thought maybe that was a prank call.
Did you think it was a prank call? Maybe?
Speaker 2 (01:29:39):
I think it was. I think someone was setting me up.
I didn't want to risk going there, but Brief saved
me on it.
Speaker 7 (01:29:45):
Yeah.
Speaker 13 (01:29:45):
I'm glad that you thought it was a prank because
I did too. We won't go there. But you don't
celebrate Halloween.
Speaker 11 (01:29:49):
Do not?
Speaker 2 (01:29:51):
Really? It's usually the middle football season. So I'm busy.
Speaker 13 (01:29:54):
Because you can't do those those you must get those jokes,
those pirate jokes, like I don't know if that's your
real last name, that's.
Speaker 2 (01:30:00):
Just your last name.
Speaker 15 (01:30:01):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, but that.
Speaker 13 (01:30:03):
Must have been tough growing up, you know what I'm saying, Like.
Speaker 2 (01:30:05):
You know what's interesting enough, Scott, My friends weren't that creative.
They didn't really come until college, believe it or not.
Speaker 11 (01:30:14):
Yeah.
Speaker 21 (01:30:14):
One other thing though, So the Knicks don't have a
coach yet, right, it's not official. Yeah, so they did
get rid of Tibbs for no reason, like he could
still be coaching there, but they have four candidates that
they like to have on the on the New York
Nicks team. I do a lot of New York Knicks
talk radios. That's why I'm a huge fan, you know.
But when you go on New York Knicks talk radio,
(01:30:35):
you can't say anything bad about James Dolng because he
owned so many radio stations, you know, so you always
have to say you're a huge James Dowin fan. And
then for some reason, James Dong he knows Karl Anthony Town,
so you have to say he's the best big man
to ever do it, and then you can just go
you can go from there.
Speaker 13 (01:30:52):
But it's really hard to talk to those people, you know.
Speaker 2 (01:30:55):
I'll make sure to take that note. Thanks Flying Scott.
It's good to your voice and that man. I hope
you have an awesome rest of your weekend. He mentioned
the situation in Texas. I brought it up near the
end of hour two. I mean, we've dealt with unbelievable
rain in the South this year, and at least twenty
(01:31:16):
twenty four people have died in dozens are missing after
the catastrophic flooding that swept through Texas. This was basically,
over the last twenty four to forty eight hours, the
Guadalupe River in Hunt, Texas surged thirty feet above normal
and did so in a very brief amount of time.
It devastated homes, It swept away vehicles and buildings, and unfortunately,
(01:31:40):
among the missing are twenty three campers from something called
Camp Mystic, and it was involving young girls. So far,
there's twenty four people that have lost their lives. Dozens
more are still missing. And it was it ran thirty
feet above its normal levels in a very short amount
of time. So thoughts and prayers. I'm glad you mentioned it, Scott,
(01:32:03):
because I have friends that have been affected by this.
You know. I saw a friend of mine that I
work with whose niece is missing. So I hope for
the most amazing positive outcome on that front. And the
other side of it. Karl Anthony Town's one of the
best big men to ever do it. I mean, Bri,
I feel like that's I feel like that's Scott getting
a little carried away, don't you.
Speaker 4 (01:32:24):
That's Jason Smith saying that Jalen Brunson is the best
nick of.
Speaker 2 (01:32:27):
Oh my gosh, oh my gosh, I'm still triggered by that.
The night the Knicks make the Eastern Conference Final, Jason
Smith is on the air saying that Jalen Brunson is
the greatest Nick of all time. Now, I will give
Mike Carmen credit because literally he's like, so how long
before they build a statue? Yes, it's like brilliant. Hey,
did Rob hang in there?
Speaker 3 (01:32:48):
By the way, he's here?
Speaker 2 (01:32:49):
Okay, Robin Orlando, you get the last word on the
phone tonight, and I appreciate your patience because you know
I'm all in on Steelers Talk tonight. So welcome to
the show. What's going on?
Speaker 19 (01:32:57):
Rob, hey man, Glad to have you back on this weekend.
Speaker 2 (01:33:00):
Thank you, dude.
Speaker 19 (01:33:01):
Listen, let me just be the voice.
Speaker 22 (01:33:03):
Of reason on the Steelers moves this offseason. First off,
we have twelve first round draft there, excuse me, twelve
draft picks in next year's draft. Let's start with that, okay,
And all of the moves that con has made this
offseason are relatively short term moves. We have like one
hundred and thirty five million dollars an available salarycap in
(01:33:26):
twenty twenty six. Okay, So what we're doing is we're.
Speaker 19 (01:33:31):
Taking a shot this year with the core that we have.
So we've got too many good players just to give up, right,
So we're taking the best shot we can and we're
set up for complete rebuild next year if we need to,
whether it's whether it's leveraging all that draft capital to
move up for a quarterback, or if we decide that
(01:33:52):
Will Howard is potentially the guy moving forward, then we
get draft and fill out the roster way more cheaply,
you know.
Speaker 2 (01:34:00):
And that's the interesting part. And I appreciate the call,
Rob because I think guys like me, we look at
it and say, well, what are you gonna do this year?
You got Aaron Rodgers? The future doesn't look bright. And
then you'll hear from a handful of people that cover
the team, and what do they say, Oh, never seen
them do this before. But I think you're on a
I think you're onto something. This is Hey, what do
(01:34:20):
we have to lose? Right, We're gonna go to Aaron Rodgers.
He's gonna be our guy. We're gonna build around him
for a season. If Will Howard is the future, boy,
what a fine right is your fourth fifth round pick?
Speaker 13 (01:34:34):
Oh?
Speaker 2 (01:34:34):
Let me double check that I might've even been sixth
where they got him. Yeah, sixth round pick. Let's go
ahead and make this move. Bring in Jalen Ramsey. Let's
get John H. Smith and pair him up with you know,
Pat Fryermuth, who might be one of the better tight
ends right and a couple of receivers around DK Metcalf.
(01:34:57):
Offensive line is pretty much in play, so let's go.
I just went specifically on the offense. We know how
good their defense is, but I like it. And then
you're set up in the future because with the draft
picks that you're gonna have going forward, maybe you could
get into that top ten, that top eight you know
there's projected right now, gotch, I better be careful here
because we're up against a break and I'm gonna delve
(01:35:19):
into draft talk. And if you think I'm bad, Bree
whenever it comes to getting carried away with draft talk
with the week of the draft, when we're talking a
year in advance, because no one's gonna remember this right
when it No one's be like man Blank said two
years ago. No, the twenty twenty six draft is going
to be loaded at quarterback.
Speaker 8 (01:35:38):
Now.
Speaker 2 (01:35:38):
I don't know how good any of these quarterbacks are
going to be but it's going to be loaded at
quarterback right now. According to Matt Miller ESPN Draft guru,
there could be as many as five quarterbacks go in
the first round. And if you're thinking about arch Manning
is one of those five. Arch Manning is telling everyone
who will listen that he's not turning pro. And arch
(01:35:59):
Manning has it played a college football game from start
to finish against a ranked opponent yet, But he's the
number one pick in the draft. Like, what are we
doing right now?
Speaker 3 (01:36:09):
Do you see what he Steve Spurrier said about.
Speaker 2 (01:36:12):
Arch It was brilliant. It was brilliant. Yeah, I think
it was right. But you also have names like John
Mattier at Oklahoma who could find himself moving into the
first round. No One before the twenty one year did
Kyler go number one overall? Was that the twenty nineteen draft.
No one before the twenty nineteen draft was talking about
Kyler Murray as the number one pick in the draft.
(01:36:33):
No one was And what do he end up doing
going number one overall in the draft. So right now
we are, you know, a little less than a year
from the draft, and you're talking about five quarterbacks who
could go in the first round. So Drew Aller is
one of those. I'm not really And like I said,
I don't know how good they're gonna be because three
of the five I sure has held don't won my
team drafting. But still, maybe we're onto something, Rob Maybe
(01:36:54):
you think as a Steelers fan or swinging for the
fan to see if we can get it done in
twenty twenty five. If we can't, if we come up short,
well guess what Aaron Rodgers is moving on. There wasn't
a great quarterback option. They didn't believe in Shador Sanders.
They weren't gonna move up to the number one pick
overall to get cam Ward there. I mean, you're gonna
spend on Sam Darnold. Let's see how that plays out.
(01:37:15):
I mean, I think throughout the course of this show tonight,
I came in with strong feelings believing that, hey, I
would take an over on the Steelers. I think they're
a team that can compete in their division. I don't
think there's been anything from Steeler fans tonight that would
deviate me from that feeling. And I don't think looking
at Omar Khan's extension is anything where you say, oh yeah,
(01:37:37):
they're just making everyone comfortable. Now, they're telling him, hey,
we like what you're doing. I don't know if ten
and seven, ten and seven, and nine and eight is
truly Steeler way, but tonight the fans need to be
pretty fired up about it going forward. Cautiously optimistic would
be the term I use. All Right, I can't wait.
Breeze three is back and it's next right here on

into Countdown presented by bet MGM every Saturday and Sunday

available on the iHeartRadio app. You know, it's kind of
interesting real quick. Before Breeze three started the show talking
about baseball and how excited I was baseball. Try to
do some things to make the fourth of July a
little bit more baseball centric, have a subway series, MLBtv
(01:38:55):
was free, and then I think we've spent maybe one
segment tonight on baseball. So I guess I guess in
those instances, I'm part of the problem, right which, again
shout out to my guy Michael, who did try to
keep baseball a topic on Twitter, who writes, blank, just
want to let you know the Rangers play the Padres tomorrow. Yep.
That's it. See, that's all we needed. That's all we
(01:39:18):
needed on the baseball front tonight. Michael appreciates you. All right,
It's what you all came for tonight. It's that time.
Let's do a little Breeze three, not one, but three.
It's entertainment.
Speaker 1 (01:39:32):
It's good, it's Breeze three.
Speaker 3 (01:39:38):
Let's go bree alrighty.
Speaker 4 (01:39:41):
So earlier this week, Ay Adams Strunk, which is such
an incredible name, the controlling owner of the Tennessee Titans,
recently hosted her daughter Blanche's wedding at Nan Stadium, which
is incredible. I think it's kind of awesome to have
(01:40:02):
such a huge event at a stadium. If you have
the power, the money, and the opportunity to do it,
why not, right, great, awesome.
Speaker 3 (01:40:14):
It was kind of cool.
Speaker 4 (01:40:15):
So it just kind of got me thinking if you
could have a life event or just any kind of something,
like if you wanted to like hold like a birthday party,
or like a front party, or like get married. I
don't want to say funeral because I think that's a
little morbid, but if you could throw that in there,
if you can pick three venues to have something, yeah, for.
Speaker 2 (01:40:40):
A major life yes, yes.
Speaker 4 (01:40:42):
Or like you know, just like like even just like
a birthday party. It's like a life event, right. So yeah,
So that was that was my mindset. So I went
for my first one. I would want I would want
to have a party at like Dodger Stadium.
Speaker 7 (01:40:58):
Oh.
Speaker 3 (01:40:58):
I think it would be so fun.
Speaker 4 (01:41:00):
Yes, like the best food, but not the best food,
but yeah, pretty good food and like drinks, everything in
the view and the mountains in the back.
Speaker 3 (01:41:07):
I think it'd be so pretty.
Speaker 2 (01:41:08):
I was telling a story during the break that my
son is in town. My son is a student at
west Point. He's going into his senior year, and he
was in town on leave and he never liked sports
growing up, and he didn't realize the free pass he had,
I think until he got to West Point. And it's
funny because I'll get a text from him randomly on
(01:41:30):
a Wednesday night, and he's at every stadium I've never
been to yet, a text room. Once he was at
Wrigley Field. Got a text from him at a Red Sox game,
and just last I guess you could say now year,
almost to the day, I got a text from him
when he was at Chavez Ravine at Dodger's game.
Speaker 21 (01:41:47):
Nice.
Speaker 2 (01:41:48):
You know what his dad has never done. He's never
been to a Doyer's game. He's a diehard Doyers fan.
I've never been. And I've been to a lot of
Dodger Cardinal games in Saint Louis because I grew up
in Saint Louis, but I never had been to it.
I've never Beenravine.
Speaker 6 (01:42:01):
You're serious, hand to god, yeah, I know, right, heartbreaking.
Speaker 4 (01:42:05):
So every time you've come down here, you've just never
gone to a game.
Speaker 2 (01:42:08):
The no, it's it they've either been out of town.
I had a chance to go to the Rocky Stodgers
game last week, but it's like it's a Rocky stay.
So I I've never I've never been in town when
the Dodgers are actually at home. Yeah, and so it's
just never worked out for me. And I've gone a
couple of times just to like see the stadium because
I'm sure I'd be a bubbling mess if I saw it,
(01:42:32):
but it's it's always closed. A friend of mine took
me on the drive around the neighborhood where you can
kind of see it because it's literally right in the
middle of the neighborhood, and so I kind of got
to experience it. So basically what I'm saying is I
would be right there with you because it would at
least give me a chance to not only have a
life event there, but go into Chavezravine, go into Dodgers
Stadium for the first time in my life.
Speaker 12 (01:42:52):
Oh my god.
Speaker 3 (01:42:52):
We have to plan that.
Speaker 2 (01:42:54):
I know, I know I need to.
Speaker 3 (01:42:57):
I'm like, my mouth is like dry candy.
Speaker 4 (01:42:59):
I don't you've come down here?
Speaker 2 (01:43:01):
So time, I know grew and I didn't get to
go my first trip to la came. Gosh, you're like
twenty thirteen, so it's we're talking about twelve years where
I've been there quite a bit. But it just seems
to always fall when the Dodgers aren't at home. Sucks.
Oh my, yeah, that's why. I didn't mean to take
(01:43:23):
away from the rest of free story. But yeah, it sucks.
Speaker 16 (01:43:27):
No.
Speaker 3 (01:43:27):
I was just like so surprised. That's just crazy.
Speaker 4 (01:43:31):
I'm okay, wow, oh my god. Well I want to
make that like happen. We I agree, we could do
like a tour. You should do a tour there too,
do the whole shebang. I'm all about it, all about
that too.
Speaker 2 (01:43:43):
I would be telling everyone random moments that happened at
certain spots in the stadium. Well, this is while jose
Offerman booted a ball that seeks thinning. It gets there.
You go Cardinals in nineteen ninety nine.
Speaker 3 (01:43:51):
You can even do the tour yourself. Would be even better.
Speaker 2 (01:43:54):
All right, where's number two? Number two?
Speaker 4 (01:43:57):
Okay, I'm I have to say I'd want to get
married in the Superdome. Yes, I want to get married
in the Super Dome. I think that'd be amazing. I
don't obviously, I'm not from New Orleans. I have no
I have no really tie other than I'm a huge
Saints fan. But I think it'd be super fun to
(01:44:17):
get married. There'd be so cool in the dome and
then also have like the Saints are coming playing through
the speakers, you know. I think that'd be pretty awesome
instead of like cool, but like and then also maybe
like an orchestra playing that just to make it more
like fancy, you know, just you know, class it up
just a little bit. And then my last one, I
(01:44:38):
was between two PNC Park.
Speaker 3 (01:44:42):
Yes, I would want that stadium.
Speaker 4 (01:44:45):
I would want to like put a projector up and
then just like watch like a really cool movie, like
maybe like a Lord of the Rings Marathon or something. Okay, yeah,
and then just that whole backdrop this city in the background.
Speaker 3 (01:44:57):
It's nice, beautiful.
Speaker 2 (01:45:00):
They do opening day, right.
Speaker 3 (01:45:02):
Yes they do, they do. That'd be amazing. So those
are those were my few.
Speaker 2 (01:45:08):
Okay, I like it so a life event. Where would
you want in Breeze three? Mark it to take place
your dream venus venue based on the celebration of the
Titans owner's daughter getting married in Titan State.
Speaker 6 (01:45:24):
Well, the places that I've picked, I could also attempt
to take care of some other things. So if I
had had a Life of Life event at the Coliseum
in Rome, I would figure out a way how to
get to Coleone Sicily Italy to go see Corleone, to
go where Michael was, you know, to go see his
(01:45:47):
dad's place, and then figure out how to get to
Tuscany because Diane Lane made a movie there Tuscany blah
blah blah. So that's the Rome Italy connection. The next
place I was figuring is Sherwood Forest in England, Old
robin Hood Green. It's just green everywhere. Sherwood Forest, gigantic place.
(01:46:08):
But being there, I could swing by and do all
the London stuff. Go by, see Big Bend, see Piccadilly Squares,
see that egg looking building that has the crazy glass.
So I could take care of two things there. Then
the last place I figured was if I had an event,
I would do it in Maui, and then I would
(01:46:30):
go find the location where George Clooney made the movie
The Descendants in Hawaii. So I just wanted to see
that because Maui the Descendants that hold just everywhere in Hawaii,
and maybe go by the set where they did Jurassic Park,
so I could take care of all that in one place.
Speaker 2 (01:46:49):
So are you a Jurassic Park guy?
Speaker 6 (01:46:52):
I liked the movie, but it was just the you know,
just seeing Hawaii and all that landscape.
Speaker 2 (01:46:57):
That was okay, all right, fair enough, Okay, I've got there.
I've got three. My number one. Number one would be
Augusta National Golf Course. I don't know, I don't know how,
I don't know where. I don't know if it would
be in the clubhouse. I don't know where we could
put it. But yes, three, what I mean, come on now,
let's go right you fall nice work, So give me Augusta,
(01:47:22):
which is kind of funny because I had a roommate
that would always call his hotel or his hotel his
a dorm room. Augusta never got that one. Number two
for me. This is a Homer Pick Gaylord Family Oklahoma
Memorial Stadium. So it's owen Field. It's where the Sooners play.
I've fallen in love with this place. It would be
(01:47:43):
you know, tenfold right. There's a lot of different reasons,
but a lot of my best professional memories have taken
place there, personal memories. It's a great place. My funny
story way back in the day. I used to be
the fill in for five to eight whenever, right before
Clay Travis came and I would fill in when there
(01:48:04):
were vacations and then they found better people. So I've
obviously upgraded because I'm now on one to four AM.
But I would fill in and I would have to
do when I first moved to Oklahoma, well, sorry, when
I first moved to Norman, Guys, I would have to
do the fill ins from the stadium because there was
these things called isd in lines, right, yeah, and that
(01:48:26):
was the only place that had them. So I would
take all my equipment, I'd take it to the football stadium.
I'd sit in the press box and I would do
all of my fill ins right there at at Owenfield
and it was awesome. Every so often, you know, you
notice there'd be someone like walking around. You know it's
security guard. You get freaked out. It's like what someone
doing up there? But yeah, so that's near and dear
(01:48:47):
to my heart. Number two and then number three. Now
we're talking about places a lot that I haven't been.
I've never been to Dodger Stadium before. I don't think
I've ever been to any of the places at Mark listen.
But I have been to the LA Coliseum and I
know it's I know it's not what it once was.
I get it, I understand it. But it's like ten
(01:49:08):
year old Chris would be really excited for something to
happen there for Plank's family at an elder age, if
you will. But that was I mean, that was the
Krim day La Krim. I mean the opening ceremony for
the Olympics. Were there, The Raiders played there, Marcus Allen
played there, Howie Long, Freaking Jim Pluck at Mark Wilson,
(01:49:29):
Rusty Hills, all the greats, all historical historically. So for me,
I would throw the LA Coliseum in their over Lost Vegas,
over Las Vegas and O dot Co because that'd be
afraid of the sewage backup at O dot Co. And
just because still Allegiate stadium is not a home field
advantage for the Raids. She's not too many too many
(01:49:51):
opposing teams fans have come in and taken it over.
So my's ou Stadium Augusta and the LA Coliseum.
Speaker 4 (01:49:59):
So the to your roommate he called his dorm room
that like, because like hole in.
Speaker 2 (01:50:03):
One is that I think it was because of the
entrance rules that he had.
Speaker 3 (01:50:07):
Oh okay, okay, you might have.
Speaker 2 (01:50:09):
Not let certain people in. And I think I might
have been one of those.
Speaker 3 (01:50:12):
Oh okay, gosh, too poor, if you.
Speaker 2 (01:50:14):
Didn't have enough money, if your family wasn't rich. I
don't know. There might have been some other things that
were involved. I don't know, but yeah, August.
Speaker 3 (01:50:21):
Very interesting.
Speaker 2 (01:50:22):
Anything anything that didn't make the list that was on
the cusp for you.
Speaker 3 (01:50:25):
I had the Green Monster. I think that'd be super fun.
And then Madison Square Garden two years ago.
Speaker 2 (01:50:33):
Gosh, this is I'm not trying to go Arnie here
and try to cool whip all your stories. But I
went to Finnway and had a chance to kind of
walk around it, and it is like you it's like
you stepped back in time. It really is, because I
think every Boston fan would agree. I went Foxborough hosted
(01:50:54):
the Army and Avy Game, and I went to cover
it for Serious SEXIM. A couple of years ago, my
son's freshman year. Oh I'm sorry, they don't call him
frat his pleab year, and so I got a chance
to go cover it and we were staying in Boston
and I had some time, and I just went and
walked around the city. I had my mic the Leprechaun
walk and literally breath. It's like you step back in time.
(01:51:16):
It's amazing. It's awesome. And it was set up for
the football game, for the bowl game that they had there,
and I just took in everything that I possibly could.
It was amazing. It would be I'm not a Red
Sox fan, but I would want to go there to
have a major event, even if it's not a baseball game.
Speaker 8 (01:51:33):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (01:51:33):
I was gonna say, I feel like it's like on
an MLB bucket list of places that you have to
go at least once in your life.
Speaker 3 (01:51:39):
That and Wrigley, I think, are my two that I'm like,
I have to go.
Speaker 2 (01:51:41):
Wrigley School, brig School very cool.
Speaker 6 (01:51:44):
Take any Cakes is another place that I just it
sounds like you all the rich people want to go
there and go on vacation and Turks and Caicos and
then Alaska. Something about that. Just seeing that landscape up there,
you see a polar bear.
Speaker 2 (01:52:01):
A couple of notes on this, which I love. Craig
writes three venues for a life event. Number one the
Big House in ann Arbor. I like that it's one
hundred thousand plus people too, Craig, You've got a lot
of friends. Number two Little Caesar's Arena for Detroit, right,
and there are a lot of success there. And Number
three Jerry's World. Jerry's World at and T Stadium, the Cowboys.
(01:52:25):
Steve Rodriguez has a double shot here, he writes. Years ago,
Dodgers catcher Steve Jeger asked Dodgers President Walter O'Malley for
a permission to get married at Dodger Stadium. O'Malley said
he was honored, but convinced Iyager that a church is
the best place to get married, and then he adds,
forget the Raiders. The LA Coliseum was the home of
(01:52:47):
the Rams for over fifty years. Listen, Steve, I understand
what you're saying. Okay, But as a little kid, I
was a Raiders dude man silver and Black, easy e.
I mean, come on, then the Kings had his son
become silver and Black. It's just that that's in my blood.
I appreciate the Rams contribution to that. I will say
(01:53:10):
the Rams played quite a few games when they moved
back right in the coliseum.
Speaker 3 (01:53:15):
They did. I actually saw them play the Saints there.
Speaker 2 (01:53:17):
Yes, they had a playoff game there. It was awesome
and it is it. It's funny because you see it
and it reminds you, like like I said, that's a
nostalgia pic, right, That for me is a nostalgia pick.
But also when you would see them, I'm sure you
experienced this going on. I'm sure fans see it for
USC games when they go there. A little bit behind
(01:53:39):
you know, a lot a lot of places that have
zoomed past that bad boy, but still iconic, still iconic.
All right, well done, another award winning edition of Breeze
three here on Fox Sports Radio. All right, when we
come back, I got the plank parlay, got some of
your tweets. I also want to remind you that if
you missed anything tonight, our podcast will be going up
as soon as we get done. So whatever you missed,
(01:54:01):
if it was our hour one conversation about baseball, talking
about Omark consistitching and the Steelers Pittsburgh's thoughts, hopes, dreams
for twenty twenty five, diving into a little college football talk.
You can find it simply search Fox Sports Radio wherever
you get your podcast, and be sure to follow and
review the podcast rated five stars. Search Fox Sports Radio
wherever you get your podcast, and you'll see today's show
(01:54:23):
posted right after we get off the air, right here
on Fox Sports Radio. All I got to Plank Parlay
here to wrap things up in a couple minutes from now.
It's a Plank show on Fox Sports Radio. Couple of
highlights from last tonight. I wanted to get to these earlier,
but you know, live happens. I thought the Subway series
was great today. Mets Yankees. Mets take Game one thanks
(01:54:47):
to Jeff McNeil, who had a flair for the dramatics
in the game. Hits a two run homer in the
bottom of the seventh inning to give the Mets the lead,
and then all was sudden and done. Mets go on
to win the game six to five. Uh, listen, maybe
it's good that I can't get my highlights to play
because I was gonna play some Dodger highlights. Maybe it's
maybe it's for the best because as far as disappointing performances, dude,
(01:55:13):
I get it. You're gonna have those days whenever you're relying.
As much as the Dodgers, unfortunately, are on a bit
of a makeshift pitching staff. At times, you're gonna have
those moments where it's just, uh, okay, I get it,
I get it. It's just not gonna go well. And
(01:55:34):
for for La, it was not a good day, not
a good day from start to finish. In fact great Unfortunately,
the highlights have started to work here. So we take
it to the top of the third inning for the
Dodgers and Jose Altuve steps to the play. Now listen,
(01:55:56):
I gotta give credit to one person here. Oral Herscheiser
did have a funny line during the broadcast tonight where
he said that the Astros here's the pitch. Oh, hold
on there, the Astros are hitting the Dodgers like they
know what's coming. Well, that's the truth.
Speaker 6 (01:56:10):
Here's the pitch breaking pitch hits it. Well, the left
center field could foto the left fielder. He's going back
and she's gone safe.
Speaker 17 (01:56:19):
What hu two run homer by Al tu Bay, his
first come run at Dodgers Stadium.
Speaker 2 (01:56:26):
In the regular season. Oh you gotta rub that into
don't you see? Astros Radio Network. I think when all
was said and done, the uh the Astros missed on
their two point conversion to really try to rub it
into the Dodgers eighteen runs. Eighteen to one was the
final score. And more on the Dodgers in the Plank
parlay coming up here in just a bit, because I
(01:56:48):
believe I believe I mentioned that home run from Jeff McNeil.
Here's what it sounded like on the Mets radio network.
We're kitting there. He goes, pitch coming and it's drilled,
get right field. McNeil sends this one out of here.
Speaker 15 (01:57:00):
Second that shot, Jeff McNeil.
Speaker 5 (01:57:02):
And the lead tear run bomb and the Mets are
in front six to five.
Speaker 2 (01:57:09):
And the final call was the Mets Staine hots.
Speaker 17 (01:57:13):
Here's the pitch swing on a liner towards second club
smothered by McNeil, gets up frozen time.
Speaker 2 (01:57:20):
What a play by Jeff McNeil.
Speaker 15 (01:57:23):
The Jeff mmeyo.
Speaker 2 (01:57:25):
And then there were the Cubs. Whenever I was a kid,
y'all Cubs Cardinals, that was where it was at. Ryan
Sandberg versus Tommy Hurr walking, Andrew har versus Lee Smith
and now the man with three names.
Speaker 17 (01:57:39):
Now the payoffs of Pete Sw're gonna drive the deep
right field, get out the tap and as your lung
gone off.
Speaker 2 (01:57:47):
The video board. His second of the day, twenty third
of the year. It hit the video.
Speaker 10 (01:57:55):
Board on the fly.
Speaker 2 (01:57:58):
It was not a good day for the sat His Cardinals,
as the Cubs beat him eleven to three in a
game where I'm checking this to make sure that it's right,
because there's a part of me that just won't allow
myself to believe that the Cubs hit eight home runs yesterday,
but they did eight. Steve de Sager had this note,
(01:58:19):
there were forty eight home runs hitt in Major League
Baseball today, forty eight including another one from Cal Raleigh, who,
I mean, always starting to pay attention to this guy,
maybe I don't know, maybe giving a chase to the
single season record. Dude, Raley's been on fire. The Mariners
(01:58:40):
win the game, let's see what we didn't have the
highlight from it. Unfortunately, that's funny based on the conversation
we were just having during the break, Bree, But dudes
on fire. I mean, he is absolutely on fire. Sixth
inning home run. Mariners won it by a final score
of six to zero and four. Raleigh already you know again,
(01:59:01):
we're not quite to the midpoint yet of the season,
and the Baseball All Star Game kind of like the
NBA All Star Game. Whenever it's past the halfway point. Anyway,
look at thirty five right now for cal Raley, so
absolutely outstanding, uh to start his career for cal Rally?
All right, with all the highlights a side, it is time.
(01:59:23):
It is time for the plank parlay. Here we are
a lot of people look at parlay's as what profitability.
I like the amount of money I could win, probability
based on what it shows me, I could possibly want
the plan. You decide if you want to buy yourself.
Speaker 1 (01:59:36):
It's the plank parlay.
Speaker 2 (01:59:39):
It's how we wrap up the show. Last one we
did hit we had two in a row. So it
is time free three leg parlay, not three team there's
only two teams involved here. I'm gonna go with Poppy.
The hear that, Poppy, I'm going with you tonight. I'm
gonna take the Dodgers with the money line, but I'm
(01:59:59):
gonna take the under eight and a half. I know
it's a risky play. It's a risky play, but I
think after nineteen combined runs, I think there's a really
good chance that you see a little bit more of
a pitcher's duel tonight between the Dodgers and the Astros.
So give me the Dodgers the under eight and a
half of that game. And you just heard Cayl Roley's
(02:00:20):
thirty fifth home run of the season. Give me the
Mariners money line against the Pirates tonight. Take money lines
to the Dodgers and the Mariners. Give me the under
eight and a half. There's your plank parlay for tonight.
