Speaker 1 (00:01):
Don't listening to Fox Sports. You one sport throws a
major curve that's coming right up right now. It's time
to say yes, he's Bucky Brooks. I'm a defirmative for
Jordan's knocks on the way we go, Buck, I can't
believe it back for an Encore. I don't know how
you can handle it, really and really don't. I'm looking
forward to it. It's gonna be a lot of fun.
So much to talk about. It really is how you doing?

(00:23):
Everything looks I haven't seen you talked to you about
in two weeks now. A man, things are good. Man,
getting excited. We have the Final Four this weekend. We
got baseball kicking off in Earnest, You've got some football
games coming on. I mean it is a I mean,
it's a nice time of year right now. It really is.
Everything is coming together right now. But you know, it's
funny I mentioned that a major sports throws a curve
about Major League Baseball. They're move into one All Star

(00:44):
game and one draft out of Atlanta in response to
this Georgia controversial new voting law. And look, it's a
story here that borderlines on sports and politics whatever it
may be. But certainly. I think we have to discuss
because there's a lot of layers on here. And I
will say this. You know, as an athlete, you're an athlete,
once an athlete, always an athlete. Athletes and activism has
always gone hand in hand. This isn't something new, all right.

(01:06):
So when you heard the story, you kind of scratched
your head and say, yeah, I get it. And I
get it too. The one thing I don't get is
that there's so much backlash on this and people are
against it. And I tell you what, I'd be quite
honest with you. I'm not one that kind of faulters
for an opinion. I'll tell you right here and now,
I think it's a good move. I don't like what
they're doing in Georgia, and I don't like what the
athletes are doing because they have the stage to do it. Yeah.

(01:29):
Look here, here's the thing, like um, politics and sports
have always been intertwined. And what you're seeing now is
you're saying a faction of folks that are more aware
of the things that are going on in their communities.
And so when the decisions were made in Georgia about
the voting laws and those things, like you have a
large faction of people that were really upset about what

(01:50):
appeared to be voter suppression tactics. And so for the MLB,
they were stuck um between a rock and hard place
either way because a political statement was going to be
perceived based on their reactions. If they continue to host
the game in Atlanta, then there's gonna be some that
view this as okay, you're okay with some of the
things that are going on. By taking the game out

(02:12):
of Georgia, now you have another faction of folks that
are upset because they're saying sports are meddling in with politics.
But I think this is a situation where it had
to happen. I mean, we've seen this happen before the
super Bowl was poured out of Arizona over the MLK holiday,
and so it's the line now more than ever. It's

(02:33):
hard to separate your athletes from civilians because they're more
than just athletes, and so you have to treat them
as such. And so you're going to have these things
always intertwined, right, And it's not to say that people
will be hurt by this decision. I'm talking about the
people that work on the airport, the airport workers, the
hotel workers, the restaurant workers, cab drivers, ushers, vendors, and

(02:54):
on and on, and of course the economic kickstart provided
by COVID nineteen, it's gonna hurt. I don't think it's
gonna hurt that much because of the COVID restrictions in
the city of Atlanta. But you know, getting back to
what you mentioned as far as the law. The Law
Georgia was signed last week by their government, Republican Governor
Briant Kemp was the first major bill of the voting
restrictions to be passed in the States since the election.

(03:14):
Now what it did was it added new identification requirements
for absentee voting, limited the use of drop boxes, granted
more authority over elections to the legislature, and made it
a misdemeanor for groups to offer food or water to vote.
His wedding in line nep folding places. So it restricts
maybe minorities, whatever it may be. But there's a lot
of corporate pressure here. Players wanted to boycott, and I

(03:36):
read a report that Dave Roberts, who was to be
managing the National League team because he won the World
Series with the Dodgers. He was even considering not even
managing the game. So I think major League Baseball, the
the hand, their hand, was forced to cancel this and
move on. Yeah, I mean I think they had to.
I think when you talk about the tactics like the
voter suppressing tactics that were in there, like, it appears

(03:58):
that they were directly targeted too. I mean minorities. Um.
We saw the election, we saw how the runoffs and
those things turned out. We saw the uptick and the
amount of participation in UM African American community. UM, it
appeared that these rewritten laws were specifically designed to minimize
their participation. And so when you talk about maybe muting

(04:21):
the will of the people, you're gonna have some issues.
And with athletes now finding their voice and increasingly becoming
increasingly more comfortable utilizing their platforms and using their voice, yes,
this is gonna have to be something that MLB was
going to have to address. And Rob Manford was on
the front end of it, and so that's why they
poured a game. Yeah, and there are people there and
I'm hearing talk radio throughout the day list couple of

(04:42):
days when this was hit on Friday, UH and it's
saying like, wow, I'm not gonna go anymore to baseball game. Look,
you have to separate your love for sport, no matter
what the sport maybe, and what's right and what's wrong.
This is a situation and add legitimate grievances right here.
And it's not the first time something like this has happened.
The nt double A band games in states with Confederate flags.
Good for them. I remember when that happened and the

(05:02):
NBA pulled the All Star Game out of Charlotte back
in seventeen after North Carolina pissed that called bathroom bill
discriminating against transgender people. So look, it's not the first time.
But I don't understand how someone could be so adamant
saying it's gonna kill Baseball's gonna hurt baseball. I get it.
I get that the NBA took a hit at a
big time hit with black lives matter what they did. Sorry,

(05:26):
you know what, separated. If you love basketball, you still
love basketball. You gotta just separate the two. I gotta
understand that these athletes are not poems. They are people
like you and I and I have feelings and they
want to stand up for what they can't stand up
for and they have the stage to do it. Yeah,
I mean this, this is part of the new normal. Um.
You're going to have athletes who participate in these things

(05:47):
just like citizens participate in the process. Athletes are going
to voice their concerns when certain things impact them in
the community. And I think as we see them speak
up for breast cancer and other autism and other issues,
you're also going to see them talk about civil rights
and those things. And I think what athletes are realizing
is that they have a platform where they can be

(06:07):
the voice to the voiceless, and they're becoming more comfortable
utilizing that platform, and so they're able to put pressure
on leagues because everybody now is beginning to speak up.
And so it's one of those things, right, And I
will say this now, it's Brooks who is the apthlete
of the group. What do you do if you're a
member of the ball club and you are totally against

(06:30):
the situation, say why are we not playing there? Why
are we not playing? You know, it could create a
divide within the clubhouse on players on various teams. That's
the question. And only you, Bucky Brooks, can answer that
because you played the game well. I mean, look, there's
always been political differences that existed in locker rooms. I mean,
everyone doesn't vote for one political party. They don't have

(06:53):
the same view in terms of how the country should move,
whether it's conservative or more liberal, but those things have
always been able to be worked out in the locker room.
I think the locker room is much like the microcosm
of the country, where you have people who are gonna
have differences, but they can cast aside their differences to
work together. And so I don't think it would be
an issue because there are times where there have been

(07:13):
things that players didn't necessarily agree with, but they were
able to show up and do those things, go about
their business, do their job, and so it will continue
to be that. And so everybody on a team, they
won't all get along from a political standpoint, but they
can find a way to find a meeting happy around
where they can make it happen. Have you seen athletes

(07:34):
and you don't have to mention any names, I'm sure
you weren't anyway, but have you seen athletes that were
shunned and weren't part of the so cold group because
like they went their own way I mean no, like
I think. I think the one thing that we found
in the locker room, like the locker room, is for
giving the locker room. Guys gotta figure it out. They
got to figure out how to coexist. And we all

(07:55):
come from different walks of life. We all have different viewpoints,
um from a religious and political standpoint, but when we're
in the locker room, were on the field, everybody is
able to leave those things outside of that and you're
able to kind of have these conversations. You're able to
maybe agree to disagree, but continue to work as a team.
And I think that is the beauty of sports, that

(08:15):
you can bring a bunch of people together that may
not come from the same background, but you can put it.
You can put all those things aside and work for
the common goal, work for the team, and do those things.
I think the best example I just came to my
mind right now was the Drew Brees situation before the
football season began. He said something I guess that was
a counter to the Black Lives Matter movement and of

(08:39):
course somewhat of a firestorm, and I thought that he
would not be able to relate with his teammates. He
apologized uh, several times. I mean, he was, but it wasn't.
It wasn't necessarily like like declared, It wasn't about Black
Lives matter. It was what Drew Brees did is Drew
Brees talked about his love and the flag and what
the flag meant for him and why he stands for
the national anthem. But in doing so, what he did

(09:01):
he was dismissive of his teammates feelings who may not
feel the same um adoration for the flag based on
whatever they may have encountered, or maybe whatever their families
have encountered. And what his teammates were trying to do
is like, hey, it's cool that you feel that way
about the flag, and that is great about your grandfather
and those things, but we also may feel a particular

(09:23):
way about the flag and the national anthem based on
what our experience have been and what our families have experienced.
And so they were just trying to let him know that, Hey,
it's fine that you speak for yourself, but you also
need to be aware of the sensitivity of the topic
as it relates to your teammates. Yeah, that that could
have been a problem, and I look, I haven't been
in the new Orleans Saints locker room. Haven't been around

(09:44):
the team, believe me, But I am believe him. I
must have been a cold shoulder maybe for a while
for Drew Brees. No, I think like what happens in
those situations, man, you just have to have some hard conversations,
meaning you just have to have the conversation. You have
to let him know here's how some guys in the
locker room feel. You express your way or whatever, and
what anyone what everyone wants in the locker room. They

(10:07):
just want their opinions respected. You don't have to agree,
you can't respectfully disagree and move on. But the main
thing that you want to do is you want to
make sure that your voice is heard, your voice is respected,
and then beyond that we can move forward and find
a way to cooperate and get along. You know what,
I find the truly disgusting buck, I really do when

(10:29):
fans say they're gonna stay away, and certainly they did
stay away on mass h during the NBA C the
attendance was down, viewership is down for whatever the reason.
But you know they blame it on the social aspect
of it, and players basically standing up for what they
believe in, and now they're gonna say they're gonna stay
away from baseball. I've heard it this morning listen to
a local radio talk show in Cincinnati said, I've had it.

(10:51):
The hosted I've had it with I don't get it.
Explain that to me. What am I missing between my
ears that I don't understand why someone who loves to
go out, have a cold, being a hot dog, stood
on the sun and watch baseball, but they're not gonna
go because of what an athlete believes in. I don't
get it. Well, I mean, I mean in those situations,
what you're getting is you're getting, Um, you're seeing fans

(11:15):
who don't necessarily care about their athletes beyond what they
can do for them between the lines, and so um
that has happened, that has occurred, and so that's what
you're seeing. And so you're seeing people who can't separate
the player from the person. And if they don't respect
you as a person, then it doesn't matter because they

(11:35):
really don't respect you as a player. You provide entertainment
for them, but you don't provide value for them outside
of that. And so you're going to have a small
minority of folks that feel that way, and I think
the majority of athletes understand that is it is what
it is in this climate. You just have to be
able to be okay with it. Yeah, I I don't
understand that. I really don't. It's kind of like that

(11:56):
female talk show host who said, just shut up and
dribble the lebron I'm really I mean, And she never
got any any heat on that, but she basically went
public with that. She said, just shut up and dribble.
Other words, I'm paying my way. I want to see
you play dribble the ball, but don't say anything because
you really can't. You just a basketball player. And to me,
that's the biggest thing, soul little all. You know, it

(12:16):
used to be like the colden athletes soft that was
a big deal and it was hot. It was bad,
I will tell you this much. I think that's even
worse to say, shut up and dribble. I mean, it
is worse. It's disrespectful because what you're doing is you're saying, um, hey,
I just want you to play and be quiet. I
don't really care about who you are as a person.
I just want you to entertain me. And so she

(12:38):
said that she said that the choiet part out loud,
and we've seen more people say that, but it's always
kind of been one of those things that UM athletes
have had to UM maybe kind of grapple with that.
Sometimes the people in the stands don't really care about
you beyond what you can do for them as a performer.

(12:58):
And so I mean that how it is that? I
mean that is that has kind of been the thing
for it a long time for certain athletes. You know,
it's funny, not even athletes, but entertainers as well. One
of my favorites is Stevie Wonder. And I saw Stevie
Wonder and concert years ago in Cincinnati, and during the
break he started talking about, you know what the problems
were in Africa with kids in Africa, and he asked

(13:19):
people that don't and and some people in the audience
were booing. I mean, come on, he has the stage
to do it. Let him do it. I mean, did
I really care? No? I want to see Stevie one.
I love him, I really do. But when he did that,
some people even walked out and I just shook my head.
I can't believe it, you know, yeah, yeah, that's what

(13:39):
he did. I'm Sorry, you know, I just had to
get that off my chest. But that's what that's what
they did. Oh boy, it's gonna be one of those days. Uh,
one of those days. I get it. Okay, all right, Sorry,
I don't know what you're talking about. All right? Could
you have them have him leave the room where you

you and me Bucky Brooks. You and me, we're gonna
work it out. Play, play it, turn it up. I

(15:48):
love yeah, me too. See see thing my way? Okay,
here we go. I'll tell you what you know. Really
and truly, there's a guy who needs some counseling. He
needs someone to be with him. Tremendous basketball player. I
enjoy watching him play, but maybe he needs to shut
down his Twitter account. I'll talking about k D. Kevin Durant.

(16:10):
It coursed a fifty grand for offensive the derogatory language
towards actor Michael Rappaport. And if you don't believe me,
take a listen to his so called apology. Here's k D.
What's your response to the reaction to the social media
messages that were made public? And get on social media.
I'm sorry that people seen, uh that language I use.

(16:31):
It's not really what I want people to see and
hear from me. But hopefully I can move past it
and get back out on the floor. The apology, he
said he was sorry that people could see the language.
He should have said he was sorry he said it.
He should have said he sorry he wrote it book,
not that they saw it. I mean, come on, k D.

(16:54):
He had buried yourself twice. I don't get it. You're
a great player, you know, and for this this action
right now on call for maybe you have too much
free time on your hands. I don't know what it is, Buck,
I mean, you've seen it, and I've seen it with
seen the athletes all over. Maybe they think they're ontouchables,
they could do whatever they want. I don't get it. Well,
I mean, here's the thing. I'm not gonna say that
the God needs to uh necessarily uh shut down his

(17:18):
Twitter account and not engaged, see, because I think for
him and for a lot of people, and it's probably you,
I'm sure to get this too. And people say crazy
stuff to you at all times. And people think that
just because you have an opinion, that I need to
hear your opinion, or that athletes need to hear your opinion,
or others need to hear your opinion. And so if

(17:38):
Michael Rappingport says something about Kevin Durant, he should expect
that he's gonna get some heat back. Now. The language
is unbecoming. The language is distasteful and not what we
would like, are like anybody to share with another person.
But I do understand Kevin Durant wanting to fire back
because I think sometimes people kind of just say stuff

(18:01):
and things that they can say without having to deal
with the person that they're talking about. And I think
Kevin Durant was very, very um aggressive in replying and
responding to whatever Michael Rappaport has said about it right.
And I understand there are some people who go on
Twitter just debate people like you and me, and I
get it, and I like to be bated, and I
bade people as well. But this whole situation with Michael

(18:21):
Rappaport and Cady started well in the NBA on t
n T and the NBA t ANT crew were mocking
Durant for his low key demeanor which he has and
when he had an interview with Charles Barkley and I
don't think he was over And this is a quote.
Now k D seemed deeply in his feelings with the
TNT crew after the game. This is what Rappaport tweeted
at the time, and he goes, quote, damn it, he's

(18:41):
super sensitive about everything. Don't do the interview, okay, And
then all of a sudden, Durant snapped back by calling
rapp report the B word, the P word, and a
piece of S and his d M s. In addition,
Durant also made multiple homophonic references directed at Rappaport and
private messages, which really and I mean there was no
no reason for that. I mean, people get what I

(19:04):
call those beer muscles when they get on social media
because you can't be seen, you can't be touched, but
you could really attack and I could hurt people both ways, Yeah,
I can. I would say this. I don't mind like
the words and and and like I understand him fight
like firing back with force for language. I don't like
the homophobic stuff. I think, like, look, man, we we

(19:26):
can't use that language one nor should you kind of
have that in your heart. What I will say though,
is this, Michael rapp Report and other guys, they have
to be careful when you call people out because like
what people love to do is to tell others how
they should be acting or how they should be living.
And so when Michael Rappaport talked about k D being
sensitive or not sensitive or not, shouldn't do the interview

(19:49):
because the response wasn't to Michael Rappaport's liking. Hey man,
Kadi is well within his rights to fire back and say,
I don't really care what you think, Michael rapp report.
Now the language is spicier than I would have chosen,
and the homophobic stuff like, certainly don't like the language
and the choice of words that Katie used and he
should be better than that. But I do understand his

(20:12):
desire to want to fire back because there are a
lot of people that feel like they can just say
anything and never get checked. And I think Kevin Durant
wanted to check Michael Rappaport. He did it inappropriately, but
I think he wanted to make sure that Michael Rappaport
knew that a words have consequences and so when your
words are put out there, I'm gonna give him back

(20:32):
to you. And so I hear, buck I hear. But
then again k d doubled down because he came back
again and he took shots at Rappaport's wife. And then
get this, he challenges Rappaport to a fight on the
streets of New York City, which I have loved to seen.
I would have loved to seen that he tried to
a fight and then rapping what comes back? He says,
quote I received threats and disgusting messages every day, but never,

(20:54):
he says, never in my wildest dreams that I think
Kevin Durant will be among them. This is what he
sweet it. Just the other day, he says, Uh, he
had the snake emoji. He's now threatening me, He's bringing
up my wife and he wants to fight. This is
supposed to be America's sweetheart, he says, I never thought
Kevin Durant was america sweet. Yeah, but Michael, look now,
Michael rapp Board can't have it both ways right, like

(21:16):
like you can't. You can't pick a fight. You can't
you can't throw lobs and then get mad when people
come back at you. Now I can talk about and
I can criticize Kevin Durant for using inappropriate language and
words and those things, but Michael rapping Board can't act
like he's above reproach by being able to offer his
opinion but not take it back. And so, if you
don't want Kevin Durant to come at you, then keep

(21:36):
Kevin Durant's name out of your mouth. But if you're
going to say something, be prepared to have somebody clap back.
And I think it has been in an environment, a
climate has been created where people feel like they can
say anything and not get the clap back. And Kevin
Durant is not afraid to clap back, even though in
this in this interaction, he was inappropriate with the language

(21:59):
and the things that he used. Okay, now let's get
up close in person the heck with Kevin Durant. Let's
talk about Bucky Brooks and what his experiences have been
with players in the locker room in the National Football
lagualaty were there you play there? Twitter is a big deal,
number one. What do coaches say about using Twitter? And
have you seen Twitter and activity in locker rooms before games?

(22:20):
I mean it's the way of the world now with
it that that this generation has has grown up with
social media being a huge part of uh their daily life.
And so yeah, I mean people use Twitter, Instagram is
more so, the thing TikTok. They use all of those
things like they consume all of that. Um, you would
like them to be able to focus. But I mean
we've heard that people scoffed and laughed when Cliff Kingsbury

(22:42):
talked about the electronic break. Well, I've heard other coaches
talking about a man, you gotta get these guys a
little time, because five minutes so they can get on
the phone and check their messages and see what's going
on in I G like that is a part of
coaching the modern athlete. And we can sit there and
uh kind of be the old man talking about get
off my law. But this is the way of the world.

(23:02):
When you have these young people that they have grown up.
All they know is this climate of social media i g.
People being behind the scenes seeing everything, documenting everything for
the world to see. This is what they know. So
I can't. I can't. I can't be upset at them
for doing what you're doing. However, I do try and
tell them, hey, man, turn it down, because I've dealt

(23:24):
with high school players that we've gotta be like, hey,
put the phone away, let's see still stay engaged. But
I mean, it's their daily existence. They can be sitting
beside one another and texting each other, right. But but honestly,
there's gotta be some coach that would say, well, maybe
the PR director of the ball club would say, look,
you're representing not only yourself, you're representing the organization that
has the uniform's name on the team's name on your chest.

(23:47):
So there's gotta be some sort of a ruling man
that you know, just watch it. Don't cross the line,
is there? Yeah? Yeah, I mean training. I mean we
all undergo social media training, understanding the dudes and don't
on social media, being able to um understand how you
portray yourself and how whatever you say on Twitter or

(24:09):
what you put out there on Instagram or TikTok, those
things come back. And so you want to make sure
that you're very responsible in terms of what you're putting
out there, with your language, with your words, how you depicted.
All of that stuff reflects back on the franchise and
the organization. So you want to equip the players with
the tools to be able to make good decisions. But
even if you equipped them with the tools, it still

(24:31):
doesn't mean that they're going to know how to use it.
I'm jealous. I gotta tell you right now. I'm jealous.
I'll tell you what because Kevin Durant, if I wrote
with Kevin Durant wrote, not only would I be throwing
out the door by Fox Sports Radio, I'd have to
change my name to get a job somewhere. Couldn't be
a garbage collective. Not really, I'm jealous. Really, I mean
not that I want to put those terms and words.
I don't. I don't feel that way, but if I did, No,

(24:53):
I mean I understand that. And Kevin Durant is very
very fortunate that they haven't come down. Yes, he's gotten
fines and those things, but he has um you know,
I mean, he's accumulated enough wealth where he doesn't have
to worry about working at nine to five when basketball
is done, I would think, and so um, with with that,

(25:14):
you are right because the rules are always different, you know,
they're different for everybody like um, he is going to
be given some leeway and some exceptions based on who
he is and those things. But I will say the
language that he used was inappropriate. It was despicable. He
shouldn't use that kind of language. However, I do understand
why he was feisty and fiery when someone is talking

(25:36):
about you, well said, he's Bucket Brooks at Bucket Brooks
on Twitter, and don't I keep it clean? Keep it clean? Please?
How did Andy from an episode eight seven seven ninety
that's our phone number and one team is stuck with
this coach for life. That's next, but first with stuck
with David dash On with the latest in sports. That's next,
great introduction. Andy Bailey right now leading in Houston seventeen

(25:57):
of eleven. It's one or two games today and n
C double a Navute Barris had that six point lead
right now, There's eleven fifty two to play in the
opening half. Usually agains Zona tonight. A game will tip
off at eight thirty four Eastern Zag's fourteen point favorites
in that contest. Major League Baseball on FS one Philadelphia
leading Atlanta three nothing that came from the top of
the sixth inning. Zach Wheelier five and one thirds inning

(26:19):
so far seven k is a hit and no Urn
runs against Cupies just closed out things against the Pirates.
Five one was the final. Jake Garrietta with the W
and that one. Royal scored eleven on answer runs on
thirteen hits to beat the Rangers eleven and four, and
the Yankees prevailed today over the Blue Jays. Five three
was the final score letter on today on the ice,
Rangers and Sabers will at things underway from Buffalo De

(26:40):
Trent Falls at Tampa. Boston scored five times in the
second period to beat the Penguins seven to five. Brad
Marshan a hat trick and also an assist. Four point
day for him. Guys, back to you, thank you seeing
an now at David Gascon. Alright, he is Bucky Brooks.
I'm Andy from and if A Jonah Snocks. And this
is Fox Sports Saturday on Fox Splits Radio, thirty three
minutes pan us the hour. And this could be a

(27:01):
big mistake. We'll tell you all about it in just
about a minute. But uh, you know, the n C
double As are going on right now, the National semifinals.
Any rooting interest in your behalf? And what about I
hate to even asked the question because I know mine's
torn to shreds. What about your bracket? Oh no, no, no,
I mean look, I'm over there like his baseball seat.
I'm not worried about bracket. Oh. You know, we're all

(27:23):
We're all, We're all done, all done, all the right.
I was done after the first weekend. It's it's amazing.
It really just can't figure it out. What about U
C l A. I mean, and I'm I'm rooting for that.
I don't really have a rooting interest in any of
these four teams. I like Calvin Sampson. He's a friend.
I'd like to see Houston win. I don't think they're
gonna be Baylor. But mt Cronin coached the University of Cincinnati.
Got to know him real well. He's a Cincinnati guy,

(27:44):
and what he has done over the less several games
is nothing should have amazing. Really do you see l A.
So I'd like to see him go. But I don't
think anybody. I think some NBA teams have a hard
time beating Gonzaga. Really never know, man, I know, I
know you never know. All you need, all you need
is one shot. And so if you're if you're U

(28:04):
c l a allre you trying to do is get
this game. You want to break this game up into
itty bitty chunks, and if you can get it where
the game is within range the last four minutes, that's
what you're asking for. And so I will give mc
cronin credit for what he's been able to do with
U c l a UM. Having been out here, one
haven't seen how his teams played back there, right, you
talking about Cincinnati UM kind of old school, grinded, physical, tough,

(28:28):
hugging mug type basketball normally out west That doesn't fly
in terms of fans don't like that style. They don't
appreciate that style. U c l A like look the
Wizard of Westwood john Wood and how he went up
and down. But this grinded out style and getting his
team to play with effort and toughness in those things
it works. And so if yeah, and so if they

(28:49):
can control the tempo, who knows, man, you never know
in one game, just never know, because all the press
fourteen points, their fourteen point dogs take the points. Mean,
I don't mind. I don't speaking a basketball. What's going
on right now? Kansas University of Kansas day basketball coach
Bill Self, he's agreed, and why wouldn't you agree to this,
to a new contract that's gonna keep him with the

(29:11):
Jayhawks until he retires, basically a lifetime contract. That's the
good news. The questionable news, And I say, maybe it's
very questionable the gray matter here, even though the school
is a wedding, a decision from an independent panel investigating
not one, not two, not three, but five level one
in fractions charged alleged by the n C double A.

(29:32):
And really I don't understand what the rush was. Why
are they gonna sign him here, and he's gonna be
He's closing in on the end of a ten year
deal right now that guaranteed him over fifty two million
along with the seven point two million retention bonus. That
bonus is gonna be paid a hundred thousand dollars monthly
installments over seven years. Not a bad gig if you
can get it. But look, if the n C double

(29:53):
A comes down hard on this guy, how do you
keep in there? That's the question I have because he's one,
because that's what matters UM and I think that's that's
what we have to become increasingly comfortable with when it
comes to coaches and how they viewed and all these
things like we can talk about the pint of Scott stuff,

(30:15):
and we can talk about UM how we view these
coaches and role models and programs and higher learning and
this stuff. But at the end of the day, coaches
are paid a tremendous amount of money to coach, and
they won't see the bottom line wins and losses because
from an economic standpoint, it impacts the university. And so
we can talk about graduation rates and oh, they're graduating

(30:38):
all your players, but if you're graduating your players and
you're not winning. No one really cares, and that's unfortunate,
but that's what it is. And so Kansas is letting
us know where they place their values. Their values are
on the wins and the losses when it comes to
the basketball team because it defines their athletic department. That's
what Kansas is known for their basketball team. He's been successful.

(30:58):
That is why he's getting paid. That's why he has
a lifetime deal. I want to add something to what
you said. You said schools pay coaches a lot of
money at the coach. I'll also add a little attendant here.
They also paid coaches a lot of money not to coach,
because they have that little cause. When they get fired,
they get brought out. So they got a lot of
money not the coach when they get the boot. So
it's as pretty pretty good profession. You're guaranteed money if

(31:22):
you work, and you're guaranteed money if you don't work.
And he must have one hell of an attorney bill self,
because his new contract includes a clause that says the
school cannot terminate him for cause due to any current
infractions matter that involves conduct that occurred on or prior
to the signing of the new contract. It's unreal. Instead,

(31:43):
he would forefoot Hilf of his base Saturday salary at
professional services pay while he served any suspension handed down
by the Big twelve or the n C double A.
He's gotta made this guy, Bill self. Really, I mean
I won't he has made, but I think he has
a good agent slash attorney who wrote a deal that
would make sure that he's protected. So yes, if he
does get introle, he gets pinched, he has to give

(32:03):
back some of that money um that he's making. But
at the terms that they're talking over five million dollars annually,
I think Bill, So, I think I think Bill. Yeah, Okay,
which brings up the question. I have this view, should
players have streets named after them while they're still active
or be elected to the Hall of Fame while they're
still playing on working For example, Rip Pettino got into

(32:25):
a major mess at Louisville. You know he got bailed
out when the president of Iona College in New Rochelle,
New York, New Pettino. When this president was working at
a college in election to Kentucky, he hired him this
year at Iona. The point is this rip Pettino is
in the Hall of Fame little tarnished there and what
he did in Louisville. Should they wait for a guy's
career to be finished to be put into the Hall

(32:46):
of Fame? M hmm. I mean I think it would
kind of be cool if if I could. I mean,
sometimes you want your flowers while you like like like,
I mean, I think it would kind of be cool.
Like I can imagine being a player who is playing
in his jersey number is already in the Ring of Honor, Like,
how cool is that? Like, I mean, you know, in
Green Bay, Aaron Rodgers is going to go in the

(33:07):
Ring of Honor. Why not do it now so he
can enjoy it while he's playing, you know. I mean,
I think that's one of the things. Why do we
have to have all these rules where you need to
wait and do all this other stuff. No, I'm with you,
But in Cincinnati to have a street called Pete rose Way,
And there was a big stink, big stink when Pete
got into a whale of trouble with the gambling and
the politicians, and since they wanted to have the street removed,

(33:29):
they didn't do it. It's still there Pete Rose way,
but I think there are some people say, look, we
should have waited to see what would happen. Because in
a way that I love Pete Rose I think he's
done wonders and I still think he should be in
the Hall of Fame. But I think he should be.
I mean, you know, he's hit leader, he's a hit king.
Should be there and the story that's it. But I
think there's some people who feel that, you know, he

(33:50):
embarrassed himself, he embarrassed the city, and to have a
street name after him is wrong. So you know, it
goes both ways. And I think it's a big question
because again, Rick Pattino's in a Hall of fame and
he put a school on probation. It's it's crazy, I know.
I mean it's not a great look. It's not a
great look. However, I mean his accompliments speak for themselves.

(34:12):
And so you're talking about Rick Fatina and the things
that he's been able to do. I mean one at
rivals schools, like the fact you in the Kentucky and
Louisville and one they had Iona in the tournament. He's
talking about, Hey, I'm gonna be okay, um being there
for a while, and I'm good with it. I'm okay
with it. Like I know, all of the other stuff
looks nasty, But I don't know if you can write

(34:33):
the history of the game without including And I'll say
one thing else. You know, if you're in the Hall
of Fame, you're in the hall of fame for the
body of work you've done in that sport. And for
a guy to get a speeding ticket, a d uy,
whatever it may be, it just shows that he's no
different than you or I. He could sin, he could
make a mistake, but in his profession, he was the

(34:53):
best there was. And I have no problem with that.
But there are people out there. I remember, look in
the mirror before you complain, look at them. That's all
I'm saying. All right, when are you getting in the
hall of fame? Are you in the North Carolina Hall
of Fame? No? No, no, no, no, no? Really, high
school I'm in. My high school has hall of fame.
I got I got that done. But not a not
in uh not a tough hall of fame. That's a

(35:17):
tough that. That is a very tough one. You know
what I'm really hoping on. I'm hoping for like, I
would just like a I like an honorary honorary degree
from my my school. I like a doctorate or something
like that. I'm glad you mentioned. I think I'll get
some letters out this week for you. I felt like
we might as well use this platform. Like I can't
get my jersey and lights, but I would be okay

(35:38):
if they were, like I could work like I kind
of helped Lincoln Kennedy get into the College Football Hall
of Fame. I have a vote for that. I kind
of helped them. Big Lank Yeah, like links my guy.
I love him to death. He stoles me some of
his cigars. He has his own brand, but I haven't
gotten those yet. We move on, all right. He's Bucky Brooks.
I'm Andy from It. I'm in for Jordas Knots. And

(36:00):
when will it all end? For one NFL quarterback? We'll
have that for you next. How will this end? Well,
that's right around the corner about twall minutes before the
top of the hour. This is Fox Sports Saturday. He's
Bucky Brooks. I'm Andy Ferman in for Jonas Knocks. Last
time I look Bucks fourteen Baylor over Houston, and it
looks like it's a j V against the varsity. In

(36:20):
that game right now, Houston totally overmatched by Baylor. I mean,
Mamma has been good, no more seed, and so we're
seeing that. But the game is settled down, it's still
it's hard to believe these two teams are once in
the same conference, the old Southwest Conference and uh, every way,
way back way. But you know what, speaking of Houston,

(36:40):
the police have Houston had now launched an investigation concerning
Deshaun Watson, and I feel for the guy in some extent.
He's maybe being hung out to dry. I know, they
gotta do investigations here. With two more lawsuits alleging sexual
assault inappropriate behavior well filed against DeShawn Watson, quarterback of
the Houston Texans. One cent that he has unsent messages

(37:02):
on Instagram and he's contacted the women who had previously
massaged him through into media. That's not good. That is
not good. You know, really sometimes just lay low and
I guess out of fear. What doesn't he have an
advisor or attorney say what are you doing? Why are
you contacting these women? I mean, I think we just
need to wait and see how this all plays out

(37:23):
because this is different, right, I mean, this is a a
civil case, not a criminal case, so one the threshhold
is lower in terms of the burden of proof needed
to um prove his his guilt and those things. So
we just kind of have to wait it out now
because there is a police investigation from his size, he
will finally find out some of the names of the

(37:45):
people that are alleging these things happen from him, because
prior to they've had a tough time trying to figure
out who's who and what's what and where is all
this coming from. And so as the police get involved,
they as they become in the investigation and now allows
us maybe to find out a little more. But really

(38:05):
a lot of this has just been weighed in the
court of public opinion. No one really knows what has transpired,
and so I think everyone has to keep an open
mind until the plays out in court and we can
kind of see for ourselves what exactly is real and
what is not. Well, I listened to Mr Bucky Brooks,
believe it that I do, because God gave me two
years one mouth. I listened, and when you were talking

(38:27):
about Kevin Durant way back on the other segment about
this is a social media society. I kind of put
two and two together. I'm saying, you know, what, would
this be such a big deal if we didn't have
social media? For Deshaun Watson. You know, maybe maybe I'm
way off base here, but say ten fifteen years ago
in the National Football League, similar things have happened and
no one knew about it because we don't have social media. Well,

(38:48):
I mean, I'm not gonna say that that's good because
we didn't necessarily know. Um. I think I think the
big thing with with all of it, like is it's different.
I think, Um, we're just learning about this and the
allegations and we still that's what they are right now.
The allegations. We don't really know, um because it hasn't
played out in court. So we'll we'll see because we've

(39:10):
only heard bits and pieces. And yes it's alacious and
and those things, but I mean, we don't know. I
think for him, UM, he's entitled to his day in court,
and so I think as much as we can, we
want to keep an open mind and just wait and
see what it looks like when we hear the evidence
and we hear both sides and we hear them adjudicate

(39:33):
this case. You know, I wish him the best. He said,
the matter is under review according to the National Football League,
and the league has that personal conduct policy. So I
get they're waiting to see I guess the results of
this case, but not that the police are involved. I mean,
are just thinking, I mean, are you leaning in one
direction or the other? Is it looking good for the
Shawan or what do you think? Well, I mean, I

(39:54):
don't know if we can say that it looks good
just because of everything now. It doesn't look at all
that has come out. It's eighteen women who say they
work with this guy, and wow, I mean, like it
doesn't look good right now. But we don't know, Like
right now we have allegations, we haven't seen those allegations
can stand up against cross and all that other stuff.
When when you start digging deep and beginning to pick

(40:16):
apart the evidence and those things, we don't know. I mean,
I think it's one of those situations where you just
have to wait and look if if he has done
those things or whatever, then it'll come out, you know.
And I think for everybody, like we're in such a
rush to kind of make decisions, have opinions rush to
judgment that I thinking this one we have to wait,

(40:36):
like it just as a slow process when it comes
to dealing with the court. I'm amazed. One of the
lawsuits alleges that Watson made up scene in sexual gestures,
and the second says, over the course of four sessions,
he purposely exposed himself to the massage therapist and touched her,
groped her, and uh cursed her and I put her
into a situation. I didn't want to go there. Really,

(40:59):
if you get the at you, I'm not going down
that road. I'm not. But I don't understand why he
would do. I don't. I don't understand why athletes go
in that direction. I mean, is it because they feel
that they're in touchable book? I mean, you've been there,
done that, and you I mean, I mean I think,
I mean, I think there are a lot of factors.
I think without being there, I don't. I mean, I

(41:20):
don't know without hearing Deshon Uh talk about her explain
it like, I don't really know. And so I am
trying to with hold my opinion on all of it
until it comes out. And so I mean, in a
few months we will find out about it all all right,
Next year, it's gonna be impossible to go even We'll
tell you that. Next they'll always be an Odds. That's

(41:40):
coming right up. Yes, he is Bucky Brooks. I'm proud
to be with him. My name is Andy Furman and
UM for Jonah Knocks. And we're getting ready to rock
and roll right here on Fox Sports Saturday. And I
tell you what I wish to Houston Cougar is a
rock and roll a little bit. This thirty eight eighteen.
Last time I looked, and I believe buck. It's the
first time all year long, Houston has played a single
digit team, and it's showing right now. I mean, I mean,

(42:05):
I mean Bailey is the number one seed. I mean
they are the number one seed. They in a team
that we've talked about all year. The two teams were
Gonzaga and Baylor, so I shouldn't be surprised they have.
I'm impressed. I'm impressed the way they play. I really am.
And I expect a little more from Houston. I didn't
think they'd win, but I didn't think it would be
like this. It's early. It's we'll see what happens. I

(42:29):
tell you what do you talk about two hairs. Let's
talk about the National Football League, because it's not gonna
be two hairs. Will be two halves more because they're
moving to seventeen games next year. And I will say this,
if they're concerned with injuries, one more game certainly is
not gonna help that. Cause you know, they cried and
they wine, and they had to pay money on concussions
and things like that. They were so concerned about the

(42:51):
players welfare and their injuries. So what do they do.
They go for the green cabbage, They go for the money.
They take away one preseason game because the owners make
more money during the season, and they ended I mean
the game. I mean the money is significant. I mean
the new TV deals are are major. You're talking about
a bunch of money. I think I saw where they

(43:14):
would pay out maybe three hundred million per team anually.
Oh you have to sign up for that. They didn't
add another game to the slate. They just took away
a preseason game, added a regular season game. So now
players will end up getting more money because it kicks
in a new deal. When it comes to the c
b a UM in terms of player safety, I'm sure

(43:35):
there will be some things where they have to negotiate
or talk about talk to the union about um, you
wanted about practice time, uh, number of players on practice
squads and those things. They may have to expand that out.
But I think this is a win win because now
we may not see that. We shouldn't see the dreaded
five hundred season. Hey man, either win, are your a loser?

(43:56):
So never get a chance to see that. Because you
got a number first time in forty three years. They
moved from a sixteen game schedule to a seventeen game schedule.
Obviously there's gonna be a bye Will there be a
bye week? Now? I don't know. I think there will
be a bye week still, right, Yeah, yeah, I think yeah,
one bye week. They'll push that back because I think
President's Day weekend is going to be when the Super

(44:16):
Bowl is gonna be Ino. And look, this is something
I think that we saw on the horizon was going
to happen. I'm not so certain fans wanted it or
they crave for it, but you can't get enough football.
I mean, let's face it, football is king being NFL,
followed very closely by college football and then maybe the
NBA and baseball which they still called the national pastime.

(44:39):
It is pastime. It's not there anymore for whatever the reason.
It's just football has taken over. Because football is a
three sport. You talk about football, you know. They they've
created a marketing situation because you know, it's playoffs and
there's Super Bowl and this preseason and there's the Combine
when they have it and the draft. It's all over.

(45:00):
It's twelve months. That's what it is. But that was
the plan. The plan was to make sure that you
have to pay attention and put your eyes on the
National Football League every month. And Roger Goodale and his
crew have done a great job of making um and
creating these seminal moments every month where you have to
pay attention to something that's going on with the National

(45:21):
Football League. And so it's been a great marketing plan.
They've swallowed up the rest of the league's in terms
of the eyeballs on the sport and it will continue
to grow and continue to be a machine. And we've
seen it. You can't get enough of it. So if
they can make it through this year without fans, man,
look out when the fans can return. Yeah, you're right

(45:42):
about that, you know, It's funny you mentioned that when
these owners cry that they lost money, maybe I'm mistaken.
I just think that maybe they didn't make as much
as they thought they'd make they would make. I don't
think they lost anything, you know. I told why. I
say that if you're in a business and you're bleeding
and losing a lot of money, what do you usually do?
You put the shingle outside and safe for sale. I

(46:04):
don't see a lot of NFL teams for sale right now.
I don't think they're losing that much. I mean, they
lost some short term money, but you noticed a rushed
to the table to get the TV deals done to
make up for that, and we knew it was going
to happen, and so it happened. Now we should see
the league in a nice and stable situation economically, players

(46:26):
we begin to get paid more. These guys who get
squeezed out, they will always be the I mean the
lower class. Those guys the middle class will get squeezed out.
But I mean, I say, it's a nice trade off
right now. You know me, Buck, I'm a bit of
a geek because I was a high school manager. You
were one of the athletes, and you made fun of

(46:47):
the manage. I mean high schools they did, and they
threw stuff in me. You know they put that high
school Where were you in high school? Ad Lafayette High
School in Brooklyn, New York. I was a basketball manager,
cut the oranges at halftime, and then put that hot
stuff in your jock. You know they they do stuff
like that. You know, that's that's okay, that's okay. I
was part of the crew. I was part of the boys.

(47:08):
But here's the thing. I mean, I was a geek,
and I kept the score book and the statistics, and
I called the newspapers after the game to get the
box scores. Here's the thing. And as far as stats
are concerns, remember Peyton Manning said the NFL single season
record for passing yards hundred seventy seven. Now what could
he have done with this extra game? You know, this
is gonna throw out of whack only statistics and records.

(47:30):
There was a time when the NFL, if you gained
the thousand yards as a rusher, that was great. Doesn't
mean anything. Now you know everybody's getting a thousand yards.
I mean, they just expanded the schedule twelve to sixteen
out to seventeen games. I just think it throws everything
out of whack. Now in baseball, when Roger Marri's back
in sixte hit that sixty one home run, initially they

(47:50):
put an asterisk next to it. They don't do that
in the NFL statistics or statistics. They stay there like blood.
They don't change it, not really, and I think they should.
It doesn't mean anything. I mean, war, you play seventeen
games and you gain you should gain two thousand yards. Yeah,
I mean it will be interesting to see the normal
milestones that we used to celebrate when guys would reach

(48:11):
certain thresholds. They shouldn't be celebrated because the extra game
will kind of throw everything off. But the one thing
I know about the Leady League loves having eyeballs on
it so well, it's kind of crazy. Really. Now they've
got a chart here that I've I've noticed because of
the seventeenth game, and it's the first time since nineteen
seventy eight the NFL regular season is expanding and they're

(48:34):
gonna play seventeen games, and they say there's some teams
now all winners because of the seventeenth game, said the
Philadelphia Eagles, playoff chances roles by two point five percent
because they're gonna play the Jets in the seventeenth week.
It's crazy. It's crazy, isn't It's as to think about it,
but there's so many different scenarios to think about going forward,

(48:58):
so crazy it is nuts. I mean, I'll just I'll
run down this list a little bit. The losers, the
Colts playoff chances dropped because they're gonna play the Buccaneers
in week seventeen. You know, you know, how do you
how do you know? I mean, the Colts right now
could be gonna happen. They could be undefeated going into
weeks seventeen, So are the playoff chance is gonna drop?
But I guess they assume they'll be somewhere around the middle.

(49:18):
But the good news is you're not gonna have a
team that's five anymore. You're not even anyone, can't be even,
all right. The Rams saw their playoff percentage dip because
the new game against the Ravens. All right, that's what
they're saying. And I gotta live with this now. This
is where I gotta live with. The fourty nine is
playoff chances have increased by two point five percent. You know,

(49:39):
why in week seventeen to playing the Cincinnati Bengals. The
Bengals are re emerge. Who knows, I may not figures
it all out. You gotta believe this could be a
tough year for him, don't you think here number three
better make the playoffs this year? I would think. I mean,
but Joe Burrow is the key. Joe Burrows gotta be

(49:59):
the key to come back healthy. I mean, you know
from all reports we hear that he's working out like
a dog. He's gonna be healthy. But again, you've been
around athletics all your life. When was the last time
you heard an athlete coming out of an operation being
an a c L whatever it may be, of neck
injury and arm injury, and they say the the operation
was was not a success. It's always a success. Let's

(50:22):
go off aid he dies. I've never heard that. All
clubs always call the news conference the operation was a success. Well,
to me, it's not gonna be a success until his
buttons on the field in September. Then to me, it's
a success. I understand that if you do want to
take one of those guys in the top of this draft,
you wanted to be plugging and play players. Oh hear

(50:44):
what you're saying. No, No, let me ask you a
quick was I respect you scout for the NFL, and
I'm a Bengals fan in my heart of hearts because
I live in the area and the draft is coming
up right around the corner. Do they go for a
guy on the offensive line to protect Joe Burrow because
all the Bengals have to do is look at the
tape of the game when they played Washington and they

(51:05):
saw a Burrow go down in pain, or that I
go for the receiver that played wide receiver when Borrow
was at LSU. Who Borrow basically is kind of claiming
for he wants he wants the Bengals to draft him.
So what do you do? I go for the protection.
I want this guy protected. He's my Rolls Royce. Yeah,
always the protection because their offensive line struggle mightily a

(51:26):
season ago. I want to make sure he's protected. He
feels good about what we're trying to do, and he can.
You didn't have enough time in the pocket. It's amazing.
I mean, you know, to me, you could have an
average quarterback. And I'm not saying Joe Burrows an average quarterback,
but given any quarterback that plays in the NFL time
he could do damage. I really believe that, and you

(51:47):
played in the game. Is that a true statement. I'm
just blowing smoke. I think give a guy time, he
could beat you. I mean, I think the majority guys
that make it the camp can find it. We're on
the rosses and make teams. Um. The guys they get cut,
it's not necessarily reflection of their talent, their inability to play.
Sometimes familiarity, kind of nuity, those things go into it. Um.

(52:12):
I mean, it's really a tough deal because you have
to hope as a prospect, you have to hope that
you get high, get picked high enough to go to
somewhere where you like while playing in a coaching staff
to understands your talent and how to elevate it. Either
that's a scheme change or something else. That's that part

(52:33):
of it. You could be in a system that basically
is not comfortable for you. But then again, why would
the guy, why would a team draft you? Knowing full
well you know it's funny because I remember years ago
there was a quarterback on the Houston University of Houston
Cougars and the name Escapes right now, but he played
in that running shoot offense, and the Bengals drafted him

(52:53):
and David Klinglond was David Klington. I'm sorry, and he
just didn't fit in. And I don't know why they
drafted him. He just did not fit in to the
offense here in Cincinnati. And really he just was. He
was tremendous in college. I remember clingly, he was unbelievable.
So Gunslinger came to Cincinnati failed, failed miserably because he
didn't fit into the system. And maybe coaches have to
bend over. You gonna draft a guy like that, change

(53:16):
your system to fit the guy you draft. I mean
sometimes sometimes you should consider that, like dependent on the
talent of the player, you should be able to assess
the talent and say, here's what he needs to be
at his best. So let's make sure even if we
have to change the offensive coordinator, change the set, change
the design, let's do it. Let's give us it was
the best opportunity to figure it out. Because it's been tough.

(53:39):
It's been tough. Slat for oh, it certainly has. Hey

Next hour, we have Bruce Kratkowski. He's an eleven year
NFL veteran and analysts for Pro Football Focus, so there's
no need to go anywhere. We have David Gascon. He's
gonna be in the gutter, so so much to do,
so much, so much time to do it in I'm
gonna keep it rolling right now. Now. Why did one
team vote no on this? Adam Kaplan NFL on Sirius
XM tells you all about that and more. Next, Adam

(54:43):
Kaplan Fox Bus Radio NFL insider Sirious x M NFL
will join you momentarily. My name is Andy Ferman. I'm
in for Jonas Knocks and my man Bucky Brooks, the
former NFL And by the way, a programming note right now,
we've made a little bit of a swap in about
a half hour from now, well to have in the
gutter with David Gascon and we're moving the Iowa minutes

(55:04):
to prime time our number three, So David Gascon in
the gutter about a half hour from now. But right now,
let's go to the celebrity hotline. What a celebrite is
Adam Kaplan, Fox Sports Radios, NFL inside of as Kaplan
would to see joining Bucky Brooks and any from A hello,
A see, how are you? God's good to talk to you. Alright.
The NFL right now goes to a seventeen game season,

(55:24):
possibly more injuries, of course. But why did the Chicago
Bears vote against the move that? I don't know, Andy,
I couldn't tell you. It's funny. I talked to the
Bears a lot this week. We didn't talk about that.
That was about fiftie on my list to talk to
them about I got. We talked about let me give
you what we talked about. We talked about play calling, quarterback,
a defensive coordinator, change philosophy, where they're going in the draft.

(55:48):
I mean, I had so much to talk to them about.
But this seventeenth game. You know what's interesting, Andy? And
we saw this with the wild card when the NFL
hinted three years ago that they were going to go
to to an extra wild card per conference. It was
a issue, particularly with fans, not so much with teens,
because it meant more revenue and meant people would keep
their jobs. But yeah, I didn't ask him. I'm not

(56:10):
aware of why the Bears, and I didn't mean to
put I don't know it's it's not something I had
any idea about. It had to be honest with you,
it wasn't something I was looking at. But I'll find out.
I'll find out for next week up. Now that you
mentioned it, it'll give me another reason to call him.
So thank you asked thank I mean, since you were
on the phone with him, and since we did see
the press where Ryan Pace and Matt Nagie were talking
about Andy Dalton, why did they feel the need to

(56:32):
come out, Um, and be so supportive of Andy Dalton
as a starting quarterback. Well, look it, Bucky, they were
either going to sign Um. I reported three or four
weeks ago, was either gonna be Dalton or Ryan Fitzpatrick.
It was really close, to be honest with you, they
just don't want the volatility of Ryan Fitzpatrick. And with
the other reason is because they've been involved. You know,

(56:53):
it's it's not a secret. They they tried to get
Russell Wilson and just is not gonna not gonna happen,
but they tried, and they wanted to show Andy Dalton
that Um they wanted. They wanted him as their quarterback. Now,
by the way, it was Annie's decision not to take
more in to one year deal. He wanted to do
well the season and see what the market would look
like now. And he's in his thirties. But they feel
really good about him because he's a three time Pro bowler.

(57:16):
You know, guy's the former second round pick who's a
bit of decent, better than average, the good quarterback in
times over his career, a good processor. He's just not
the athlete that fits Fitzpatrick is. And they didn't want
the volatility of Fitzpatrick. So now fits is in with
Washington and Dalton will be their their starter this season.
But you know, the Bears have a lot of decisions
to make that they needed to figure out. Now that
they have two quarterbacks under contract, who's gonna be that

(57:38):
young quarterback they're gonna draft. They're gonna draft a quarterback.
It's just a matter of who's that guy gonna be.
Is it gonna be a twenty Probably not. I that's
just my sense. It doesn't mean they won't draft one
in second, third, or fourth round. They have a lot
of needs on their offensive line needs to be They
need to SENDI rebuild on their offensive line. They need
a new right tackle, um, they need corners. Remember, they

(57:59):
surprised Kyle Fuller, but I didn't see that coming. That
was there was one of the few cap casualties that
we had. So look, they have the Bears have a
lot of work to do. And then the other thing
we should mention that yet Naggy decided to keep calling
the place. That's not a surprise. I'm told that he
gave it up last year because he just felt like
they were getting stagnant. He had to get a better

(58:19):
idea of what was going on in offense, and then
not many people know this, he actually took the play
calling back after their by and finished the season calling
the place. And yeah, and by the way, they were
a playoff team. I know, people have our hard time
believe in it. They lost six in a row, then
one three in a row, then they got smoked in
week seventeen and backed in into that least wild card.
We're chatting with Adam Kaplan Foxbie's Radios NFL inside the

(58:40):
Serious x M NFL and I'll try again, Adam, I'll
give you a second shot. Okay, this I found rather shocking.
The NFL owners approved Daniel Snyder's buy out the Washington
Football team of the minority owners. That I scratched my head.
I mean, this guy did everything and anything they get
himself thrown out of the league and now he owns
the team outright. Yeah, Look, this is in in the

(59:00):
works for about two or three years, um. And as
we know, some of his or you should know if
you're not aware, that some of his minority owners did
not want to be part of the team anyway because
the Snyder so he got the team, and the league
would not of of of approved of anything if they
felt there was something that there was an issue with them,
because remember there was there's there's been some question within

(59:21):
the league about some of the allegations but made against
the organization. The NFL is aware of it. They've been
done their information gathering. If they felt that there's something
very very bad with Daniel Snyder, they never would have
allowed this. Just so you're aware of it that it's
you know, they're not talking about it publicly. That's the
way it works if they feel like there's something bad.
If you remember they forced Jerryson, Jerry Richardson, the Panthers owner,

(59:42):
to sell the team. Um that and that was done
rather hastily. It was done very quickly with the allegations
that remained against him some years ago. So in in
thinking about because you kind of briefly mentioned the Carolina Panthers,
I feel like the cannon of the Panther, the Panthers
on the verge of maybe being boxed out of the
core a back market, even though they're sitting at eight.

(01:00:02):
Do you expect him to somehow find a way to
make a movement. Who possibly could they move with because
the Falcons they have four But that's the inner division rival. Yeah,
and and look they've wanted Um, they really want they
wanted Deshaun Watson. They've been they were heavily involved in it.
And it's you know, based on what's been alleged against them.
And I'll see that happening this year. Uh, don't rule

(01:00:23):
them out for Russell Wilson next year if they don't
get their franchise quarterback in this draft. But it see,
here's the thing at quarterback. We we don't know what's
gonna happen. We well, there's a lot of speculation with
the Niners can do with three. We know they're taking
quarterback that's not up to discussion. Was up to discussions.
Who is that guy gonna be here? Is it? Mac
Jones would be a great for for what great fit
for West Coast offense? But to me is would be

(01:00:44):
be would be overdrafted. This is way too early for
for mac Jones. But you got as you know Bucky
and Scott and you just have to be right. You
can't worry about what the public thinks. You just gotta
be right when you trade up for a quarterback. We
saw what happens when you miss The Bears missed. Uh,
woefully on Mitch Dubisky, who should have been a second
round picked on the first round pick, and it set
them back a little bit. So I expect them to

(01:01:04):
do something at quarterback, but there are teamates in transition.
They have a lot of needs, particularly the offensive line
was a disaster last season. Other than right tackle on center,
they need help left tackle and both guard spots. Um.
They need help on defense. They are really super bad
at corner. That is by far the they're probably right
now the worst team in the National Football The quarterback
position they need probably at three through this draft and

(01:01:27):
free ation in a free agency. How do you mentioned
offensive line on one thing that needs offensive line helpers
to Cincinnati Bengals, they picked five always you know that, Andy,
you got to protect the Rolls Royce, and that's Joe Burrow.
He's the Rolls Royce. However, Joe Burrow is encouraging them
to take his guy at L s U Jamaar Chase
the wide receiver. What do you do? Do you appease
him with you go with you with the correct pick.

(01:01:48):
What's the right The right pick would be the offensive lineman.
That that that to me, Andy, is they've done an
awful job of building that offensive line. Unfortunately, Johnah Williams
MRS Rookie season due to injury. Uh he maybe wanted
playing guards someday. Right now, he's thet left tackle. Riley
Reef is a fill in at right tackle. He's a
below average right tackle. It's the way the league sees him.

(01:02:08):
They resigned Quentin Spain, who was just a journeyman who
who shouldn't be starting. They're not very good at center
or left guard. Their disaster on the offensive line. You
can't win the National Football League without a quality offensive line.
It's it's just hard and um, look, do they need
another receiver? Yes, they've got Tee Higgins was a surprise
that as a second round pick. Tyler Boy, it's really good.
Another former second round pick, autum t it's been a

(01:02:29):
good backup. Do they need another player? Yeah? But to me,
why don't you build an offensive line for a change.
You know that that would be great. You always talk
about we always talk about like weapons, particularly when it
comes to the Green Bay Packers. What is going on
with Aaron Rodgers in the Packers front office? Because it's
just I mean, we knew there was some disconnect, but

(01:02:49):
each and every week it seems like a new story
coming on about Well, here's the thing with Aaron Rodgers.
He obviously was not happy and it was shocking that
they selected Jordan's Love where they did. And and it's
ironic he went through the same Brett Fave went through
the same situation in twenty in two thousand and five,
but that that was a con that was not their plan.

(01:03:11):
By the way, it's just that Fred, it's just the
Aaron Rodgers lasted. They were not expecting that. So they
just took him, thinking like they would just sit on
him for a couple of years, and they did it.
They did. He didn't play for three years. Whereas we
know in these days Jordan's Love, this will be the
last year he sits. Theoretically, theoretically they can move on
after without Aaron Rodgers to trade him after the season.

(01:03:34):
That would not surprise me. I know he was terrific
last season. I'm not gonna argue that he's and he
maybe he was motivated by Jordan's Love. But you know what,
he does, turn thirty eight in December. Man, where's the
time gone. He's still at the top of his game. Heck,
he's doing Jeopardy as a host who knew, but UM,
just keep an eye on that situation. What I've been
on record saying, Russell Wilson will not finish his career

(01:03:54):
as a Seahawk. That'll. I do believe that there's a
very realistic chance that he gets traded after the season,
because Bucky, you and I have talked about, UM, you
and I have talked about how um they've been not
on the same page Russell Wilson, P. Carroll. I do
really wonder what's going on with Aaron. You know, Aaron
Rodgers the type a he he could rub people the

(01:04:15):
wrong way sometimes. But guys at Hall of Fame quarterback,
how do you move on from him? While you do
that when you selected a quarterback into love in the
first round. Okay, we'll pushed against the clock right now,
so I gotta ask you this quickie right now? Does
Aaron Rodger told Rodgers? Does he get the Jeopardy gig?
Do you know? What? Do you know? Inside? Tell us?
I wish I did, But I'll tell you what, I
cannot wait to watch him very because I read his quote.

(01:04:38):
Apparently he really studied hard for it because he's his
type A didn't want to. He doesn't want not to go. Well,
I'm very curious how he'll do. It's just not that
he needs the money. Obviously, he's a multi millionaire with
all the contracts he's gotten. But I'm really looking forward
to seeing how he does. And with these rotating hosts
for the late Aux Trabeck. Yes, thank as so much

(01:05:00):
as always. Adam Kaplan with the c Fox Boats Radio's
NFL inside of Sirius x M NFL. Get him on
Twitter at Kaplan C A P l A N Kaplan NFL.
God bless you. We'll see you down the road, Adam,
Thank you so much. All right. Bucky brooks Andy from
an infant Jonah knocks Fox Sports Saturday and one NFL
owner says it's time to start winning. That's next, but

(01:05:22):
first to a real winner. David Cascon with the Latest
Man is not looking good for Cougar fans out there, guys.
They're getting blown out in this game Baylor fort over Houston.
As we speak, they had a twenty five point lead
at the end of the first half. Biggest reason for
that Baylor shooting fifty eight percent from the field and
fat They're eight of sixteen from downtown in the first half,

(01:05:44):
Cougar shot twenty seven percent, So that's why they're behind
the eight ball, down by twenty three points as we speak.
Used to La and Gonzaga lit on tonight tip off
times at eight thirty four. Eastern Gonzaga fifteen point favorites
in that contest. Now. Major League Baseball Phillies four nothing,
top of the ninth thing on FS one, Astros five
a's one, red's nine three lead over the St. Louis Cardinals,

(01:06:05):
and the Yankees felt today to the Blue Jays five
or three was the final score. Guys, I don't know
if you saw this, but a Tom Brady rookie card
selling in an auction just yesterday for over two million
dollars two point to five billion dollars. At the same
rookie card last month sold for over a million dollars.
You know what, David, I'm I'm more impressed with the
guy who wrote the check for the car than the

(01:06:26):
car itself. And I want to see who did that.
I mean, what kind of money do you have? What
do you do with it? What do you do when
you get the card? Really, that's Bucky Brooks cash. You know,
you just put a baby. That's you, buck Yeah, you
just just put it on. Put on, take the card out,
take the card out. I know you got it, really,

(01:06:46):
I mean I I never got the kid. I used
to click baseball cars to put on my bike and
flip them around the wheels, and now it's basically it.
But and my mom throw out most of my cars
that were worth something to calls from the sixties. So
what do I got? I got nothing. Could have got
the college to the baseball cards. Well that's the story
of my life. I got nothing and I got Bucket Brooks.
And he's probably seeing the same thing. I'm like your anchor.

(01:07:06):
I'm your anchor. Pressure or stupidity will get to that
in a minute. I'm in for a Jonas knocks. He's
Bucky Brooks, And look, I'm gonna get into your wheelhouse
right now. Because you're a footballer, by nature, by God's gift.
You're a footballer. You played, you played in college, you
played in the NFL, and I gotta I want to
kind of touch you a little and get some inside
information when a when a coach speaks, I didn't mean

(01:07:29):
it that way. You know when a coach speaks like
it or not doesn't usually have the final word. All right,
I mean really, coach says something and I want you
by eleven o'clock, I do bed checks. I want this.
You may not agree, but that's basically the coaches on
the on the road trips. We're gonna wear a shirt
and tie. We're gonna do it this, you know. Isn't
that the final word the coach um? I mean he

(01:07:50):
does have the final word. However, all things have to
be run in pros, everything has to be run by
the general managing the people up top, because when you're
paying for it, it's different and so you have control.
But some of that control needs to be approved just
to make sure that everyone is okay with it. Did
the coach have to give you, guys, like a dress

(01:08:11):
code being in college or the pros? Oh? In the
pros uh Jacksonville, Tom Colson, we had a dress code
school on the road. You had to be in your
tie uh ty had to be sent st up on
the airplane to and from When you were in the hotel,
you had the choice of waring khaki shorts or khaki pants,

(01:08:34):
but you had no no jeans, hard soul shoes, college
shirt at all times so whenever you're out the room,
you need to be in a collared shirt that's out
the window. That on every team, I'm sure, I mean
someone would think. Yeah. And so coming from Green Bay
where coach Holgren didn't operate under those rules, Hey man,
come as you are. Um, just play hard on the field,

(01:08:57):
Just playlet let's do it. But I don't want to
see name and the police blotter. That's it. Yeah. So,
but it depends. I mean, everywhere is different. Um. I
see the value of having a dress God, because I
see why you want a team to look a certain way. Um,
but I also see if you have a mature team,
you can trust that they know what they're doing. Yeah. Oh,
I hear what you're saying. Now, we moved from the

(01:09:18):
coach now to the co owner of the New York
Football Giants, John Mara. He approved the spending to see
of one of the hundred million dollars and guaranteed money,
which is great. But now narras saying, I want to
return from my investment. I want, but I want some
return for my money. He said, it's about time for
us to start winning. Now. Guy says that to me,
and if I'm the general manager, I start getting my

(01:09:39):
resume ready. Really pressure. He put pressure on Dave gentleman
there as at the general man and the coaches. No, honestly,
as a player, do you honestly care what the owner
has to say? I mean, I'm sure I'm various teams
you've been on the owner was quoted saying something. Actually,
how many times did you have a meet or see
or talk to the owner of the teams that you
played for? Just depends because um, like Mr Davis, Al

(01:10:04):
Davis was always around. He was a fan, but he
was a fan. Yeah, he's always there. Thursday was his day.
He's coming out there. He's gonna be out there coaching
him up. He's gonna be involved, he's gonna know everything. Um,
the other owners. When I was in Buffalo, Mr Wilson
come around every now and then, Mr Weaver, your name

(01:10:24):
the Mr Wilson even though your name, ah, did you think, well,
I'm impressed Ralph Wilson. Yeah, and you called him Mr Wilson.
You you couldn't say Ralph Ralph I did, I know,
I know, I know it's loosen up sometimes and whatever not.
That's Mr Wilson when it comes to it now, I
will say this, you probably could have got away with

(01:10:45):
that or whatever one person you couldn't. Even today, when
you listen to people talk about um Al Davis, when
they're talking about him personally, it's always Mr Davis. Really Yeah,
I think he played football for Erasmus Hight cool and bro.
He was a football player. He's from Brooklyn. I think
he played. He was a player. Al Davis, wasn't he.

(01:11:05):
I think, like I know, he's a brilliant football mind.
I know he coached and Um kind of made his
way of the ranks as the managing general partner for
the Raiders, but he was respected for his coaching prowess
before he became owner and general managing all that other stuff. Okay, look,
since the Giants of New York have a record of

(01:11:30):
eighteen and forty six, that ties them with the Jets
for the NFL's worst record during this span. All right,
when the owner who to me? And I don't know
John Mara from Frank Mara. I don't know this guy really,
but it seems to me he's a blowhard. He's spending
a lot of money, really, and he wants everybody to
know he's spending the money. I mean, look, it's time
to start winning. Sure, it's time. You should have said

(01:11:51):
that seven years ago. It's time to start winning. What
kind of pressure does this do? And if I'm a player,
I'm just rolling my eyes. I mean, just stay in
the back and signed the checks. You gotta do right
when you when you write to check, you get to
have an opinion, you get to say some things. Um,
I would say this, The Giants are under pressure because

(01:12:12):
the clock is ticking on Daniel Jones. Um, teams are
going to the Super Bowl. I have to get it
done with the quarterback on the original Ricky contract because
it's just so team friendly. It gives you the opportunity
to build up the rest of parts of the team.
And so if your quarterback isn't getting it in doing
it playing at a high level, you're heading into year four. Man,

(01:12:33):
You're you're up against it. Because if he plays well,
he goes back, he resigns with the team and makes it.
If he does way well, then are you in the mix.
So it's a weird. It's weird. Weird. Well, look, he
did spend some money. I think that you're right about
Daniel Jones. But he's given Daniel Jones some receivers at
Kenny Golladay and Karl Rudolph the tight end. They're gonna

(01:12:53):
be with the Giants this year. And he gave Rudolph
something like twelve million dollars. I think that's gotta help.
Daniel Jones will see what kind of a whatever beck
he is now. Now he's got some targets, and he
does have some targets. Kenning Galladay has been heard has
talent when he's available, but he has been hurt. So
I think it's important that we reference that. Um, they
need everyone there to play. It's pressure on all everybody, alight.

(01:13:16):
They can't backslide. This is a team that was in contention,
fell apart down the stretch. They can't backslide. They're close.
They need to get over that. They need to get
over the hump when it comes to it. I don't
understand why, and maybe you could explain this to me.
There are certain teams that just can't get off the hump.
The Jets and the Giants. I mean, for some reason.
I'm not gonna say that that cursed, but honestly, you

(01:13:39):
gotta believe the way the system is set up that
if you finish at the bottom of the barrel. You
get the best picks to come back up unless the
personnel people are not making the right picks or that
just hex I don't understand it. You gotta be able
to just turn it around sooner than later, and they can't. Yeah,
I mean, you like, you gotta turn around. The pressure
is a man and no one cares what the circumstances are.

(01:14:03):
You brought in to win, figure out a way to win,
and you have to win with other people's players, and
so you can start winning with your players. And I
mean that's the reality of it. It's amazing. I just
and I feel for the fans that come out year
in year out. They're paying good money. They want to
go and see their team win, be competitive. It's just
to me, like in Cincinnati, they don't even go anymore.

(01:14:26):
I mean, they've invented social distancing, they really have. I mean,
they had social distancing assist that it was cool before
anybody even knew what social distancing was. I mean, you
can have your own section at the stadium Paul Brown Stadium.
No one goes to the game, and I don't blame him.
I mean, really, was bucks a ticket? Maybe parking the
whole deal. I mean, come on, really, give me a product.

(01:14:47):
Please give your product. I get it, I understand it.
I understand where you're coming from. Um it's difficult, right,
it's difficult because, Um the challenge when you're an owner
is you're so outside of your box and your comfort zone.
As you became like famous lower, you became wealthy through
business adventures that are right, completely different football, and you

(01:15:09):
hit it on the head. These guys made their money
and everything but sports, and they have no idea how
to relate to sports. And they think because you put
money into something, it's going to be successful, and it's not.
You buy. If you're in real estate, you buy a
couple of buildings, Yeah, you're gonna make money. In sports,
you buy a couple of players. They may not pan out.
That's the key that is true. You pay players, you
better make sure that they're going to pan out. There

(01:15:31):
you go, he's Bucky Brooks, he always pans out. He's
the man I'm in for. Jonah Knocks, I'm Andy Ferminant.
By the way, David Gascon gonna take you within the
gunner right here. Next, David Gascon takes you down into
the gutter and just a couple of minutes, thirteen minutes
before the top of the hour. This is Fox Sports Saturday.
He's Bucky Brooks on Andy ferminhim in for Jonas Knocks.

(01:15:52):
But right now, let's cut it, David Gascon, let's get
in to the gunner. Get your mind out of the gunner.
He only fights the best stories. Flash it's in the
gutter with David GAG's up. Fellas up. I don't know, Bucky,

(01:16:15):
you uh with some of your football program here in
the next couple of weeks we played starting Friday. Excited
about it? Yeah, super exciting for a ball You know
that Bucky is a high school football coach too, right, Yes,
I do. I don't think we need to do is
easy ways to promote his other businesses. Really, I saw

(01:16:38):
pencils on the street corner. Do I talk about that
on the radio? I mean really, I just don't think
it's right. It's somewhat of a conflict of interest. I'm
not going to go down that road. I don't need
to be calling to human resources. I've been there, done that.
I don't want to do it. I love Bucky. I
wish him well, and let's move on into the gutter. Wow,
so you are not all about that team action. How
about this, you guys, you're gonna tape Wait a minute,

(01:16:59):
pretty play, don't be going there, don't go down that road.
How I wish him well? I do anything I can.
I'd even cheat for him if I was a schooky.
But I'm not gonna talk about it on the radio
and give you a tip sheet. Then for the last
races at Santa Anita, guys, how about this, you guys
are both active on social media. A relationship guru by

(01:17:19):
the name of Derrick Jackson. Um, he's got over a
million Instagram followers, one point three to be exact. Um,
he has a show. It's called Healing and Healthy Relationships. Um.
Just a couple of days ago, guys, he had to
confess to his public that, you know, the marriage that
he's in right now is not really a trustworthy one.

(01:17:39):
A guy that professes health and healing and relationships and bonding,
uh is in a in an affair right now. He's
in an affair, and Uh he had to speak out
to it two point six million views on one day
just last week, uh, confessing that he had to uh
make amends with his wife for cheating on here. How
about that hypocrisy. He's a fake, he's a only he's

(01:18:00):
a fraud. That's what he is. You're talking about, man,
That's what it is. It's a charlatan, charlatan. We've covered
some things overseas quite a bit. How about this story
in the UK an I T teacher twenty seven years
of age. Um, he tried an he little female, he's

(01:18:22):
a male, well he would be a male. Yeah, that's
a man, baby, guys. Um, he tried to pay off
a call girl by burglarizing his neighbor's flat. Uh, got caught,
now six years in prison. He had a girlfriend at

(01:18:42):
the time, but just recently obviously not so much anymore
about that in your mid twenties. You talk about a
low life piece of scum. That's basically what he is.
That's really big. Seven years of age when he basically
did it was tried to bring in a call a
girl to a three hundred thousand euro apartment, but she

(01:19:04):
actually wanted more money, uh for for drugs that he
ordered online and the encounter obviously wouldn't flat. He had
to pay his due and uh, come that time, he
was caught red handed and no Moss now six years
in prison. How about that that? You know what, if
he was in the US of A, he he'd beat
the thirty days and out. Do you think? So? Yeah,

(01:19:24):
what do you think Buck? You know? Yeah, I think
it depends on the state, right, Maybe thirty days thirty
days would have fine. Um, it's kind of an interesting
story here states. I wouldn't talk much about Alaska. Um, guys,

(01:19:46):
some shoppers at a costco in Alaska saying that they've
actually had their groceries stolen by ravens and store parking lots.
Have you guys heard of something like this before? What
drug day on? I don't know, man, but some special
some shoppers were actually saying that they were packing their
groceries into their car parking lot at an Anchorage Costco

(01:20:08):
running Ravens souped in and started stealing short ribs from there. Oh,
I know, maybe there's the Baltimore Ravens mag there's Lamar Jackson.
It's kind of bad. It's kind of bad. Andy. I'm trying.
I'm trying. What can I tell you tonight? It's not
it's not good. Um, guys. Uh, Bozeman, Montana. This is

(01:20:33):
more fit for the eyes than it is for radio.
But a man was just caught recently on a surveillance
video going through uh Town Pump convenience store on a horse.
This is like the equivalent of some true Yes, they
are all true. They're not from the Onion, they're not
from the Babylon Bee. They're straight authentic, something like a

(01:20:55):
book that you've written. Caught on a surveillance camera rolling
through a convenience store on a worse Ever seen anything
like that? Of the nature? No, the Bucky. Are you
aware that Andy is a huge fan of the ponies?
Oh well, I think I did. I knew like to
dabble a little bit. I might call it a problem.

(01:21:16):
Oh jeez, I don't think it's a problem. I don't
think so. But some have gone to uh to counseling
for it. Yes, exactly right now, Andy, on on a
scale of on a scale of eight to ten, what
would you give the gutter here today? Just based on
the substance, you didn't. You didn't give me much of
your choice. I would go below below that. Why well,

(01:21:37):
I mean I wasn't impressed. I'd be honest with you,
you know that, But I just you know, eight to ten,
you know, first, you boxing me in a little bit here.
Why is give it to Bucky? It's Bucky what he
thinks because but put the pressure on me. Bucky will
give me some raving reviews no matter what. Typically part
of the same team of Andy. I know you like
to freelance a little bit. Yeah, I owe nobody nothing.

(01:22:00):
You know what I'm saying my own man. Look, I
think the presentation was good, the story is a little weird.
I'll give you an eight al right from you. You
know what I want from Buck? I want Buck to
take his high school football team fly at the Cincinnati
and play perennial power molars. Nor All right, we'll come back.

(01:22:23):
We got another big hour to go. We're Bucket Brooks
right here. Fox, they know, why can't we We'll get
to that in just about a minute. He is the
aforementioned Bucky Brooks, the former pro the coach, He's got
it all. The renaissance man. I'm in for Jonas Knocks.
My name is Andy Ferman, and we're rocking and rolling
our number three right here. But I'll tell you who's

(01:22:44):
not rocking and rolling. The Cougars of Houston down twenty
sixty six and Buck that brings me to mine basketball.
I'm gonna ask you to close your eyes and dream
a little bit for a minute. Who speaking of basketball,
you're a man. Roy Williams retired the other day after
already three years on the job, and he says, I
give him a credit for this, or maybe he was
forced out. Who knows? You know me, I have always

(01:23:06):
that little itching me to push. Maybe he said his
time for a new man to lead. Maybe he did
say that from his heart of hearts. Maybe they told
to say that. I don't know, but you played in
North Carolina. You're a tar heel for life. What was
it like down there with basketball? I guess football was
almost an afterthought really down in North Carolina. No, basketball
has always been king um Dean Smith. Certainly, UH did

(01:23:31):
a lot in terms of establishing the brand of North
Carolina in North Carolina athletics. Roy Williams was a longtime
assistant under coach Smith left when to Kansas established his
own name as one of the top coaches. But then
he had to come back home. And when he came
back home, three national titles. UH got us back on track.
And I think what happened. He's grown tired of the

(01:23:55):
new college basketball situation, the one and dunes, the transfer portal,
all of the stuff that happens away from the court
that really makes it tough maybe for the coaches to
do what they want to do on the court. And
you know, he's has some issues. Um I think he's
well documented about him um passing out, getting lightheaded at

(01:24:16):
some games and stuff in the past. And so I
think it's time you have nine wins um Man at
some point he comes. Everybody, it's a great career. You know,
you touched on southing. I think it needs to be
kind of discussed for at least a few minutes. This
transfer portal. You know, initially when it came out, I said,
finally they let the kids who are the stars. They

(01:24:39):
are basically the show. They don't get a nickel, but
everybody else is collecting on their name and what they do.
You know, people watch them and then the only workers
in America that don't get paid. So at least they
have an opportunity now to go their own way. They're
not under pressure to stay after they signed with the school,
and they want to leave for many reasons, maybe the sick,

(01:25:00):
maybe they want more playing time, maybe their buddies in
another school. He just don't know. Maybe one school is
in a locale that they don't want to be in
and it doesn't make a difference. But this transfer portal
has caused such a mess. Even Dick Vitale was on
Twitter the other day saying it's gonna kill college basketball.
I don't think it will. I think it's gonna settle in.
I think kids basically are homesick of times and they

(01:25:22):
want to go back to their roots. There's nothing wrong
with that. They want their mama and papa to see
them play. Maybe, I mean that's some of that, um,
But then I would say there's also, um, this thing
where players don't want to sit and earn their opportunity
on the court. They want everything given to them right

(01:25:42):
and right away. The ansd him gratification of being able. Hey,
I was a five star, accrued I should get right
on the floor. I should be guaranteed playing time and
those things. And for someone who is like coach uh
coach Williams, who is old school and his beliefs, Man,
that's a hard adjustment. Do you understand that? What do

(01:26:04):
you mean you have to play right away? Um? That's
tough and I think he just it's tired of having
to deal with all of those things. There's so many
things outside of the basketball arena that he has to
take care of. I just I can just see where
that you just become fatigued. The're tired of dealing. I
hear what you're saying, But you know, they keep on
saying that the transfer portal is going to be the

(01:26:25):
root nation of college basketball. In my situation, whem, I
would say that if I'm a coach, I'm not as
concerned as the transfer portal. Just close to a thousand
kids in there right now, there's gonna be some kids
that I could get that will come to my school.
I'm more concerned with the G League because a kid
could go there and get paid. That's the different though.
Really there's could be some kids getting paid in college.
And you were in North Carolina. Let's not go there,

(01:26:47):
but you probably saw something. You probably saw something that
I don't know, just saying all right, but really the
G League is the competition because if you're a high
school player and you're gonna go to college and you
have visions are going to the next level of the NBA,
why do the college and perhaps a have to do
term papers in finals, be the opportunity you may get
hurt and see where you could just play basketball, learn

(01:27:09):
the game and get paid. Because there's also something to
being part of the brand in college sports. And so
you have the opportunity to be a part of the
Carolina Family, the Duke family, UM, some of these other
prominent schools, Kentucky, UM. You're always tied and synonymous with
their school. There's value to that after you're playing days

(01:27:31):
are done, and so I think some of these guys
had dreams of playing for these schools, but those dreams
just consists of a one year stint at their school.
And that can be frustrating because let's look at let's
be honest, at the final four. Right, there's only one
major brand in the final four, and we can say
that's U C. L A And Zaga Houston no seniors

(01:27:53):
on their team, right, I mean that's it. And then
when you think about the Zags and the teams that
are really done the most in the tournament, did a
team with the older players, and so to get older
players in college, that means you may have to sacrifice
going after four and five stars and maybe you get
three stars because the three stars stay around or international

(01:28:14):
place does. Yeah, so I mean technically you have to
change how you go about building your team. I hear
what you're saying, and I think it's worked for Gonzaga,
and I don't know how. I mean, I give Mark
Feuds so much credit because no one heard of Gonzaga
before he got there, and we thought they were a

(01:28:35):
flesh in the pan early on. But he's managed to
continue year in and year out, and hopefully he gets
his ring this year. He's come close before, but he'll
get the ring this year. And it amazes me what
he has done at that tiny school to get a
kid to go to Gonzaga, to me, is an accomplishment
just and I know it's beautiful country out there, but

(01:28:55):
still in all it's not in a tremendous conference. They
don't get a lot of exposure, and let's face it,
all the big newspapers immediate contacts are on the East coast,
and you don't see Gonzaga much on TV because the
game start too late from the West coast. I mean, yeah,
I mean, it's it's a difficult deal, right, It's a
difficult deal when it comes to being able to see him,

(01:29:18):
but they have found their niche. It works for them.
They've been dominant in their conference. They've won a lot
of games, and I mean, I look, they're they're known
nationally um as brand down. The press is on them
to be able to get this done because they've kind
of been in this situation in terms of they've been
talked about and they've been America's darling and stuff. But

(01:29:40):
at some point, you gotta be able to get to
the winner circle. They'll do it this year. I think
they definitely will, you know, talk about the winners. So
let's talk about a guy who's been to the winners circle.
I want to mention him, uh in passing Tiger Woods.
All Right, He's been there, done that. They arguably maybe
the greatest golfer of all time, and if not, pretty
close to it. I mean you can argue that this

(01:30:00):
week the l A County Services Detectives have determined what
caused Tiger to crash his SUV and so cal last month,
but they're not going to release the details due to
prophecy concerns. Now that they said that, I want to know,
and I don't think I want to know what happened
because I think because they're not releasing it leaves the

(01:30:20):
questions suspicion. Look, he's a public figure. That's bull he's
a public figure. I know he's got to release it
is up to him and that's his choice. But the
fact that he's not releasing it lends the speculation that
maybe drugs may not really because he had some problems
with with drugs prior before taking those painkilling drugs. So

(01:30:42):
to me, he'd be better served to tell people what happened.
They'll sleep at the wheel and the car turned over,
then they're gonna talk about it anyway. They're speculating that now, right, Yeah,
speculating to see, speculation and confirmation are two different things.
That just to put an end to it, just say,
I want to make an announcement. I did take this prescription.

(01:31:03):
Maybe it's whom I took too much of it, I
took the wrong one, whatever it was, I dozed off
at the wheel, the car made the turn, I turned over.
That was the end of it, and people it'll be over.
But now people to keep on throwing another log on
the fire. I want to know, you know. I was like,
you're throwing the log on the fire. You talk about people. People.

(01:31:25):
I will say this that you know who through the
initial log on the fire was the Airli County Sheriff
and they said they determined what caused it, that never
should have happened, just let it go. We weren't even
talking about the accident. It was old news. It would happen.
We wish him well, we hope he comes back, We
hope he's a pent. I hope he could walk again,
I really do. I never even thought of him or

(01:31:46):
the accident until the other day when the sheriff came
out and they determined what caused it, and then they
said the next statement, but we can't release it because
it's privacy. I get it, but he's a public figure.
I think he'd be better served if, in fact, they
did release it. Don't you want to know? But come on,
don't you want to know how it happened and what happened?
I mean, come on, something to happen something. I want

(01:32:08):
to know what happened. Really, I think it's gonna come out. Eventually,
someone's gonna talk, someone will talk, and it's gonna come out.
And I and I just think that we should we
should know. Look where the public, we support him, We
love Tiger Woods. We watched him play. We we just
someone needs to get to him and say, look, Tiger,
put an end to it. Just go out there. Look

(01:32:29):
if he could go public when he was going when
his wife on after him with a golf club and
smashed his jeep, remember and he got his tooth chipped
and things like that, if that could be public, how
could this be more embarrassing than that? Right? Think about
that he didn't have a didn't have a choice in
that situation. I understand them, but I mean the world,
the world found out he didn't have and the women

(01:32:50):
that he used to date from the waffle house, I mean,
come on, really, right, and it can't be as bandished
at I mean once time, once upon a time in
my life. That is someone who worked at the waffle
house seeing the bad people. I mean just saying experiencing
house workers. No, No, I love waffle house really smother
than COVID. I mean really, it's a natural here we
go just to bring waffles. They're good. I mean wildfile

(01:33:12):
house is great, open twenty four hours. I love it.
But look we're getting off the track now. You're making
me crazy a little bit. I want Tiger. I would
say if we took a poll, which I'm not going
to do. I'm gonna let it die. I just wanted
to get this off my chest. If we were to
take a poll, I promise you over sixty of the
of the public, of the public, coast to coast, would

(01:33:36):
want to know. Because that's the way we are. We
want to know. We want to know what happened to Tiger.
And it's not fir you know, and like county sheriff knows,
the detective knows. I want to know, really, and I
think we have a right to know. I really do.
He's a public figure. Tell us you know every incident
that happens with coaches, when they get d wise, when

(01:33:56):
they get drunk, when they get beat up, whatever, recruiting,
illegal phone calls. We know everything about these guys. Why
can't we know about Tiger Woods? Right? Maybe at some point? Alright, alright,
I had my little rant. I'm sorry, I need to
take a Okay. Bruce Gratkowski eleven year NFL veteran analysts

(01:34:20):

the answer for you. Next, Bruce Gratkowski coming right up.
Who is he? Bruce Gratkowski and NFL vent analysts for
PFF Pro Football Focus. We'll get to him momentarily. He
Bucky Brooks. He played in the NFL. I'm Andy Firm,

(01:35:02):
and I sweep up the toilets after the show's over.
Get us on Twitter at Andy Firm and FSR at
Bucky Brooks and now we will let you know that
at the bottom of the hour we will have Iowa
Sam and the Iowa Minute. But now to the celebrity
hot long we go, the one the only. Bruce Gradkowski. Hello,
b G, how are you man? I'm doing good? Andy,
Now that I know you do that we could use

(01:35:23):
someone at the restaurant, you know, so maybe if you
have some spare time, Ohio, you have to supply the
rubber gloves and I'm there and you can have all
the free food you want to, So I got a
question for you, okay, And this is gonna be a toughie,
all right. After spending his first four years of his
career with the Cincinnati Bengals, you know about them, William

(01:35:46):
Jackson told the radio station and Washington the other day
that Cincinnati quote got some crude fans, misery loves company.
It's a wonder they're not winning. Bruce. I watched you
play for the Bengals at times. Can you defend a few?
Is that show up? Defend the fans? Bruce Kratkowski the
aspan as William Jackson said, how they crude? Well, look,

(01:36:07):
I mean I really enjoyed my time and since I
thought it's a great city, awesome restaurants, night life, just community.
I felt like it was a home environment like I
like Marvin Lewis. We had a good relationship. Andy Dolton,
A J. Green, Marvin Jones, mohammedsan who. All these guys
were rookies you know at that time. Uh Andrew Whitworth

(01:36:29):
was the left tackle, great leader for our offensive offense
at the time. So I had some good moments. You know.
We went to the playoffs both years I was there.
I thought the fans were solid, you know, so I
couldn't really complain. It's just tough when you go through
you know, somewhat of a drought, I should say. I
could imagine maybe the you know, stands were barre at times.

(01:36:51):
But man, that's you know, on the players as well.
And I think, you know, I've I've always believed you
got to move on and take the high road on things.
And I don't really like players looking back complaining about
organizations they've been on before. You know, Bruce, speaking of
your time in Cincinnati, you were there when Andy Dalton
was there. Um, what do you think about Andy Dalton's

(01:37:13):
fit in Chicago? You know, Bucky, I almost think it's
like a year two rate like last year. I thought
it was like Yeah, And Bill Laser, offensive coordinator for
the Bears, worked with Andy and Cincinnati, and I love,
I really like Dalton. I think he's a smart quarterback.
He's accurate, he's gonna make the smart decisions, and especially

(01:37:34):
if he has a good team around him, he can
make some plays. I mean, I watched him as a
rookie coming to Cincinnati. Understand how he was protected, Understanding
how to pick up blitz is understanding how to read concepts,
audible out of plays into the right plays versus certain
looks against the defense. So to me, I have confidence
Andy can get the job done. I think he's gonna

(01:37:55):
be a way better passer than they've had their uh,
you know, in recent years. So I think for mattny sense,
he's going to be able to construct an offense, call
some plays in expect his quarterback to hit receivers. And
that's one thing I think Andy will bring. Now, I
mean the only thing I think he is, Like, what's

(01:38:16):
the long term future here? But I do think Andy
could be a good fit if things are right around him.
Who execute your offense and whope play well. I was
just waiting for this movie last year. You know, you
speak of quarterbacks and I hear I'm laughing when I
said it's Ron Rivera, the coach of Washington, the Washington
football team, says there's gonna be competition of quarterback. You

(01:38:38):
think they better be competition and Washington look at he's got.
I mean, you want to come out of retirement, you
probably could start there. Ron Fitzpatrick is gonna come out
in a cane. I mean, I love fits. I mean, really,
the fact that he's made seventeen years of of of journeyman.
I mean, he's got the greatest job in the world, really,
but Kyle Allen, I mean, who else did I have there?
There's gotta be a competition really. Well. Yeah, and I'm

(01:39:01):
a fan of Fit. I just love his demeanor. I
love his mentality. He's has been a great team guy.
The locker rooms love him. The offense, He's a very
smart dude, and you know, just kind of that mossy
he brings to a team. So I think this is
great for Washington and were looking Fit his career too,
because he's It's not like when you're a journeyman QB,

(01:39:22):
you're not always on the top teams, and very rarely
are you on good football teams because you're the guy
they bring in because they don't have a quarterback or
the backup the young rinkey quarterback. So you go through
a lot of you know, crapping a sounds. So I
think this pairing right here with fits Magic in Washington
could be a good thing. I mean, he's gonna be

(01:39:43):
more aggressive with the football. I think, you know, the
guys will rally around him and then they have a
very good defense. So this is gonna be fun to watch,
but I agree there should be competition. I actually like
when I saw from Tanner Hanekey last year. He was
a good player, sneaky athletic, made good decision and I
love to keep out an opportunity. So we'll see them
competed out. But I just think fits Magic wins over

(01:40:06):
that locker room, and I think he's a good veteran
for them to have. But Washington has to continue to
figure out their long term playing as well at that position.
You know, it's funny you talk about long term playing
at a position the Sameters, so forty Niners made a
trade to to get to the third spot to presumably
take a quarterback, but yet they're talking about continuing on
with Jimmy Garoppolo. If you're Jimmy Garoppolo and you're retained

(01:40:30):
or they keep you in San Francisco, how do you
handle your business without allowing the new quarterback to impact
how you perform on the field. Yeah, I mean, I
think I think Kyle Shanahan even said it, like Jimmy
G's at his best when he's kind of piste off,
you know, And I think we all are right when
you're operating with that chip on your shoulder. And I

(01:40:51):
just think, you know, it's a big year for Jimmy G.
Because um, he has to show he's reliable, that he
can stay healthy. And I think if he does, this
is a good football team. And I think he could
do a good job. And I don't hate the fact
that Niners keep Jimmy G on the roster, you know,
draft maybe justin fields and number three and you know,
now Jimmy heat balls out this year, it's best for everyone.

(01:41:14):
You know, the Niners have leverages, they want to trade
him away. Hey, they're still sitting in a good spot
if they want to keep them. I mean, so, I
think this could be a good thing overall. But I
think the main thing, if you're Jimmy G, you just
have to go back, man. I just focus on what
I could control. You can't control they're gonna they moved
up in the draft. You can't control what quarterback or
if they take a quarterback number three. Overall, all you

(01:41:37):
could control is how you prepare each and every day,
how you approach your work and be a professional about it.
And Jimmy G already has a leg up because he
knows and understands that offense, he just has to stay healthy.
So if it be so fun to see and I
love this offseason guys with all the trades going on
to the quarterback position. You know, a great draft four quarterbacks,

(01:41:58):
so it's gonna be cool to see how it shakes that. Uh.
He's Bruce Gradkowski, living your NFL veteran and analysts for
Pro Football Focus. Get him on Twitter at b Bradkowski five.
And I want to throw this question at you for
various reasons. Number one, your thoughts on the seventeen games
season for next year. But more than that, statistics are
gonna go out the board because you're gonna have agents

(01:42:18):
telling owners, well, my guy rushed for a thousand yards,
and a thousand yard rushing season in seventeen games is meaningless.
You gotta rush for eighteen hundred yards right now. Thousand
yards used to be the milestone. Stats are thrown out
the window now with seventeen games. No, you're right, it's
gonna be difficult for us as fans in the media
to kind of process and wrap our head around those

(01:42:40):
kind of numbers, right because there's an extra game now
we're talking. We're talking the other day on serious sex
mum about teams, you know, having a ten win season,
and you're like, wait, is ten wins still going to
be looked at the same way we look at a
ten win season now, So it is kind of a
little different. It's gonna be odd, but look, it just

(01:43:01):
shows the games moving in the right direction. Fans love it.
We all love it, guys. We love the action. We
love football. Uh And I think it's a good thing.
As long as the players keep getting taken care of.
I think that that's the most important thing because the
thing that's tough from an ownership perspective, the game will
never end, right, So your product is the players don't

(01:43:21):
come in and out of the door. You'll move on.
Even look Tom Brady, the best ever played the position
he left New England. You know, so times do come
to an end for a player. I just hope, you know,
they continue to be taken care of. You know, it's
funny you talk about like the long season and those things,
because the season is so long, and because now we're

(01:43:44):
looking at fewer preseason games. Of these young quarterbacks that
are coming into the league, who's the one that you
would say is the most ready to play? When we
kick it off next year. Um. You know, I like
Keurvin Lawrence. I like Zack Wilson. Those two are dynamic
and smooth and have the athletic ability with the arm. Um.

(01:44:06):
I like Mac Jones. I think mac Jones is ready
to go. If he goes to a good situation, you're
a good offense. He can operate day one and step
in their process it and get the job done. Now,
he doesn't have the biggest start, but he has enough.
I think he has enough athleticism in the pocket as well.
So uh, it'll be cool to see. I mean. And
then you talk about guys like Justin Fields that he's

(01:44:28):
just big and strong, And sometimes I remember myself as
a rookie start eleven games. Do you rely on your
athletic ability? Look at Josh Allen, you know his his
rookie year, He restaurant. I think the most yards on
his football team. You know, because at times, as a
young quarterback, you go through your progressions and sometimes you
get off number one too fast, too soon, and you

(01:44:48):
don't get through the rest and you just take off
and run because you trust your athletic ability. And sometimes
it's good and sometimes it's not. So good. So I
think a guy like Justin Fields too, with that athlete
can can make some plays. But that's why I think
Zack Wilson he can actually be a guy to step
in and make place fast because at the end of

(01:45:09):
the day, he's kind of hoodinius. You know, he can
make plays out of structure. And if he can learn
the offense and make plays instructure, he could pretty pretty
pretty dangerous. All right, here's the big question of the night.
I want to know what's the specialty on the menu
and Toledo, because I'm coming up there. I'm coming here.
You're not that far from me. Bruce, you know that
I'm coming there. Hey, bro, you come, whatever you want,

(01:45:32):
I got you will go to who have a great meal?
Can night? My wife cooked it up, man, a nice
Easter dinner. She cooked the ham. We had some sweeper tail. Wait,
wait a minute, I can't have him. It's not kosher.
I can't have the ham. Give me something that's you
know what I'm saying. Stray corn, beef. You know what
I'm saying, little pancake, that chicken soup. When you when

(01:45:53):
you come to town, I'm taking you to social You
got your pick of the litter off the menu. We
got some good stuff. Man, I'll beat you up. Don't worry.
I'll put some pounds on you when you come visit
on the On the thank you for Bruce Gradkowski eleven,
your NFL VET atalyst for Pro Football Focus. Get him
on Twitter at b Gradkowski. Always a pleasure. Thank you,
Bruce b Well, Hey, thanks guys, happy eat, have a

(01:46:15):
good weekend. All right, he's Bucky Brooks. I'm Andy from
and infant Jonas knocks on. Of course, Nick I will
admit it. It's all yours snips. But first we go
to David Gascon for the latest and sports, and guys,
it is all over and done with Baylor in Houston. Today,
clock go wind out and the Bears ended their seventy
three year hyper nation from the National Title Game. Baylor

(01:46:40):
defeats Houston seventy eight fifty nine. They're in the National
Championship Game for the first time since nineteen forty eight
and a second time in school history. Called courtesy of
Westwood won Cougars Today in the ballgame, shot thirty eight
percent from the field, Baylor Bears fifty three percent. They
were eleven of two from downtown we'll get things ready

(01:47:02):
in a few hours from now if U c A
and Gonzaga. In fact, they'll tip off at thirty four Eastern.
Zag's fourteen point favorites in that ballgame. Major League Baseball,
a handful of games have gone final. The two too,
swung on and drill the date left hat ball is high,
it is far. It is God the crack and crack swan.
He hits a line drive for a second home run

(01:47:25):
of the year in the left field seats. It gives
the Yankees a to one lead. Ah that Gary is
scary and Gary Sanchez the home run. John Sterling on
the call, Yanke's better than the Blue Jays today. Five
three was the final score. Zach Wheeler a one hit.
Jim Philly is over the braves for nothing. A little nervous, Sandy,
It's time for a whole something something with I was Sam, Yeah,

(01:47:49):
why are you nervous? I don't know, should you be nervous?
She usually like flying without a parachute and wither and
the second I can't wait? All right, it is that time. Yes,
it is the Iowa min coming up next right here
on Fox Sports, and let's hit it. Hey got a
minute heaven, Oh Iowa, like you give a damn Now

(01:48:14):
presenting the most up to date happenings from Iowa's four
Division one teams, ladies and gentlemen, thousand pigs. It's the
Iowa Minute. Here's Iowa Sam Andy. The the Iowa Minute
was about forty five minutes later than usual, and I'm
still not completely prepared, you know what. I wish it
was an hour and forty minutes later, but that's okay,

(01:48:34):
it wouldn't actually be on the air at that point. Well,
I'm saying we should have been in the fourth hour, Yes,
the fourth hour, if we if we only had one
All right, guys, well, Andy, we do meet again another
installment of this, this item, the Iowa Minute. Now you
enjoy doing I hate to do you honestly enjoy doing this? Really,
of course I do. But I will tell you that
now is an ideal time to check your home's furnace

(01:48:56):
filter if need be. You know, let me just say
good and rolling. But have you gotten in touch with
the Governor of Iowa or the Chamber of Commerce? And
you should because you're really doing a lot of promotion
for the state. I should do that for you. I
really should it's an infomercial that honestly, no one wants
to hear. Has any choice whether they can they can
turn off, and we we would ask them not to

(01:49:17):
do that. Um, let's let's get started with this. Uh listen, Uh,
I know this is going to what was that we've
used a minute? I know we've already used in the
segments over uh in a actuality. This is where Bucky
gets to check his Twitter, and this is designated meal break,
So Bucky, I'll leave you. I know this is going
to shock some of you and may anger some of you,

(01:49:39):
but I was Luca Garza has been catching Player of
the Year awards like fresh salmon at Pike Place Fish
Market in Seattle. Would you guys like to hear all
the awards Luca Garza has received? No? God, please, do
we have a choice? Do we really have a Uh? Listen,
it's a slow week for the Iron minute lots has

(01:50:00):
apped up recently, but excited to announce I will start
bringing State of Iowa College baseball talk to these fine
air waves. No thanks, I'm good. Alright, Jent's let's run
down the awards Iowa Center. Luka Garzas picked up following
his impressive senior year. And I'll do this as quickly
and painlessly as I can. The Sporting News National Player
of the Year, and he won it two years in
a row. The Big Ten Player of the Year. Whoa

(01:50:23):
where am I at here? Chez uh So he won
the Big Ten Player of the the Year twice. That's a
second year in a row. The Oscar Robertson Trophy, your Diany.
That's the nation's oldest college basketball award, or so I'm told. Uh,
you want more, high, you want more. That's the United
States Basketball Runs Association. Yes, more more, calling for more.
They want to hear more awards. The Luke Olsen National

(01:50:46):
Player of the Year Award, the late Lute coached at
Iowa back in the day. A little left way eye there,
the Athletic National Player of the Year for Luca Garza.
The Associated Press College Basketball Player of the Year. Yeah,
and I stopped you for a snow. Okay, go ahead.
The real question I have is how did he get
stuck in Iowa. A talent like that should have been

(01:51:10):
a duke. He needed to develop. He was a development project,
and develop he did. Let's press on the more of
these awards. You all want to hear the koream A
Budul Jabbar Center of the Year Award. He won the
Senior Class Award winner us b w A District six
Player of the Year and also the n ABC Player
of the Year. If he wins today, less we forget

(01:51:31):
he won the Name Smith Trophy and he wins the
Wooden Award. What he did. He didn't win the n
double A and he's gonna watch the games on TV
like us, look at you, look at you had to
bring that up, right, He did average thirty points a
game in his two NC tournament games. But yeah, where
did it get him? Couch couch for tonight? Well, he's
drying his tears with all these awards. I'll tell you.
If he wins the Wooden Award on Tuesday, he will

(01:51:53):
be the consensus player of the Year in college basketball.
Most people don't even know him. That's okay, We move
on here. He's from Iowa. Noise from d C. But um,
all right, well, if I'm forgetting in awards, please forgive
me listeners. Uh quickly here, guys, Iowa stayed on a
new coach, t j Otzelberger and men's basketball. They got

(01:52:13):
a transfer from Denver a man by the name of
Robert Jones. A lot of guys in the transfer reportal
right now, we were talking about that Andy during a
break and including Joseph Yesafu, who was really came on
strong for Drake late in the season, especially in his
two NC tournament games. He has answered to enter the
transfer transfer portal, taking people by surprise a little bit.

(01:52:33):
And guys, Jordan Bohannon, he's a he was a former
Iowa player. He was among three Big Ten players who
met with n C double A President Mark Emirate this
week about name, image and likeness, you chi usage. And
I should add that there was actually a bill moving
through the Iowa legislature. Let me get my music going again. Here.
It has been way more than a minute. Um, Jordan,

(01:52:56):
I'll wrap up here four minutes. I know we have
to fill a segment here. Jordan bohan and he met
with Mark Emmert and basically a bill was going through
the Iowa legislature and he said, if that bill passes,
he will return to Iowa for his bonus year that
a lot of players are allowed to get. Unfortunately, it
died in the Iowa legislature, so it looks like Jordan
Bohanon is moving on from the Iowa basketball program. Uh

(01:53:19):
you and I and Drake. Uh spring football? Uh you
and I s game was canceled due to COVID concerns,
and we're still canceling games. And Drake had their game
canceled last week. And that's your iamitted. You know you
missed a big story. But the truck stop, that was
the biggest story of Iowa maybe in ages and you
blew that one. And the second big story was the

(01:53:41):
second horse that raised to Keelan race Course and listeners
today the owners are from Iowa. I don't I don't
understand you. You're like a shill. You like a shill
for Carza. You're a shill. Well go, I love you
to death, I do, but you've turned into a shill.
Well I listened. It was a slow week, Like I said,
I will say that. Yes. Uh. The owners of the

(01:54:01):
self proclaimed world's largest truck stop donated a lot of
money to the IO Football ten million dollars. That's a
big story. They the world's are just chuck stopping. Walk
out Iowa, walk out Iowa where I have some roots
there as well. So there's all the things. There's a
lot of roots in Iowa, A lot of roots corners,
sybean roots. Are you finished now? I am finished? Just
in time for Bucky. You could come back now punched

(01:54:23):
back over? Who created I want to who created this segment?
Actually wasn't me, No, it was actually Jonas who came
up with the idea. So yeah, that's why he's not here.
He picked a good week to him missed the Iowa minute,
and he certainly did. It's gonna get worse really because
you start tell about Iowa baseball. No, okay, but they
do have a money league baseball team. They don't they

(01:54:44):
they have, yeah, Triple A. But I just stick to
college sports, so you know, I'll be talking about Iowa
states non existent. Do they have these junior colleges in
the state of Iowa. We'll talk about the junior tons tons.
Let's let's go ahead and stop this segment now, just
get rid of them. Music stopping and I gotta get
a drink. I really do. Okay, he's Bucky Brooks. I

(01:55:04):
may be firm it. I'm in for Joona's knocks. And
by the way, they test for everything, every single thing.
But this that's next. Beck. You didn't know this. We'll
tell you all about it in just about a minute.
It is fourteen minutes before the top of the hour.
In his Fox Sports Saturday he is Bucky Brooks. I'm
mad deferminant for joona'sknocks. And by the way, at the

(01:55:26):
top of the hour, Brian No and I'll be with
Brian No at six am Eastern Tomorrow morning right here
in Fox Sports Radio. But Brian No and e from
Salam will join you at the top of the hour.
That's eight pm on the East coast, and you could
listen on the I Heart Radio app, on Sirius XM
channel Lady three, and of course on many of the
same Fox Sports Radio affiliates. Now, I got a little

(01:55:47):
bit of a breaking news story here in my backyard, buck,
if you're interested. University of Cincinnati put their men's basketball
coach John Brannon on paid leave on administrative paid leave,
pending an investigation. If the six of his players decided
to transfer last month and the school announced that they
lost an investor, they launched an investigation because there was

(01:56:10):
a riff between the coach, John Brannon, and the players,
and the players had led to the requested transfers. Among
the six who led left and they went to the
transfer portal, or were four members of the freshman class. Now,
I think this Obviously, if you have a question about
anything in life, it always boils down to money. And obviously,
if they fired John Brannon, they'd have to pay him

(01:56:33):
five point two million dollars as a buyout. University of
Cincinnati is financially strapped, as many many institutions are across
the country. So I think the investigation, in my mind,
I believe, is they're looking to find something where they
could fire him with cause so they don't have to
pay him. That that's the ugly part of this whole situation. Yeah,

(01:56:53):
obviously that's what they're doing because you want to pay
for him, meaning you want to figure out if they're
any little technical cality that you can find to see
if you can get off the hook without having to
pay him all of his money. Ultimately, this will probably
go to court. They're trying to settlement, uh see if
they find the middle ground it the states because he's
number one, I know the guy. He's a good guy.

(01:57:14):
He's a good coach. Prior to coming to Cincinnati, he
coached at Northern Kentucky, university, he took him to the
anti double as not once but twice. And for kids
to leave and we talked about this in this portal.
There's many reasons for them to leave. And look, he's
never come out and said anything on None of these
transfers have sun have come out publicly and said he
said something that was derogatory, inflammatory, racist, or anything of

(01:57:36):
that matter. So they just didn't like his style. Can
we say that athletes today are softer than when you played,
maybe that's why they're leaving UM, there's something to that,
Like some of this is about looking for the opportunity
to get right on the field or right on the
court right away, and you guys are less likely to
try and stay at a situation where they may have

(01:57:58):
to earn and fight and scratching claw to to get
on the field and get on the court. And it's
frustrating because out of adversity comes so many lessons not
only did it help you on the courter on the field,
but in life. And so some of these guys are
missing out on the blessing that is having to earn
and work for something that you really really want. And

(01:58:19):
from a coaching standpoint, man it's just very, very difficult
to rebuild your team each and every year without continuity
and stability. You crave that. That's why the best teams
have been the ones with the coaches have been there,
uh for years, and it's a machine that they've created
when it comes to recruiting and developing players, um moving on,
being able to like bounce around and do those things.

(01:58:41):
And old school coaches have a tough time because they've
never had to operate like this. Right, let's move away
from the athletes for a second. Let's talk about the coaches.
As you mentioned, you know, now the University of Cincinnati
is is behind the wall, and they got their backs
to the wall to some extent. Why do I say
that these six players that had left will probably have
nothing good to say about the University of Cincinnati for

(01:59:02):
whatever the reason, because they're leaving. So any potential student
athlete that wants to go there and is being recruited
by another school, that coach from the other schools say, well,
why would you want to go there and play for him?
Because he had six kids leave and he's not the
easiest guy to play for, so it's gonna kill their recruiting,
not only that they emptied the bench this year with

(01:59:22):
six guys going, they have nothing left that the cupboards bear.
They have nothing now, but going forward, they won't be
able to get anybody to replace them. Because in the
recruiting game, and you know about that better than anybody,
they're gonna badmouth to schools saying why would you want
to go there? He's tough to play for. Yeah, I mean,
you're going to have to fend that off. And you

(01:59:43):
have a culture of guys departing and it seems like
there's some dysfunction within the program. It's hard to retain,
it's hard to bring on board, uh, four or five
star recruits. And you know, when I think about Cincinnati,
I'm thinking about their basketball tradition, in their legacy. It's about,
you know, those guys that have been developed, that are tough,
that are hardened. Um, those guys are departing like We're

(02:00:05):
Huggy and other guys have had. Those guys stay in
kind of earned their stripes by having aronron Um. They're
not doing that, and so that's an issue. That's a problem.
It's not a good thing, I tell you. Speaking of
the tournament, it's funny the n c double A has
possibly tested for COVID almost daily in this basketball situation,

(02:00:29):
I mean throughout the season. I mean every team was tested.
I've heard stories this year when Team A would fly
to Team B, get off the plane, get tested, they
were positive, get back on the plane, and go back
and then play the game. I've heard stories like that,
say were tested almost on a daily basis, but they
have not been tested. Get this for performance enhancing drugs

(02:00:49):
at March Madness. I'm not so certain that's that's a
big deal. But I was surprised that they wouldn't test
for that. And it doesn't make any sense. So at
schools that are educating their students virtually and they got
wrestler's sweating and spinning on each other. Not really, I
mean you're worried about the COVID and you're letting them
wrestle and that they're rolling and sweat. Explain that to me.

(02:01:12):
It doesn't make any sense. No, I mean, it is
definitely different. We certainly didn't expect that to be something
that that would go on, just because of the intimate
body contact that you see. But I don't know, man,
guys figured it out. I don't. I don't know like
there's been a return to sports and so everything he's going.
So who knows how they're figuring it out. Well, I
think they figure it out because if the sport brings

(02:01:34):
in money, and once again you know you've got a
question just sort of term money out there, that'll be
your answer. Look, if the sport brings in money and
revenue big time for the school in the Anti Double A,
they're gonna play the sport. You know, if it's women's
field hockey, they ain't playing. If it's track and field,
they're not gonna run. If it's swimming, forget about it.
Wrestling they're doing some school I think some schools a
wrestling I don't know, but basically it's football and basketball.

(02:01:56):
Those are those are the sports that bring them money
in and they're gonna continue to do so. And that's
why they're not going to cancel the season. And I
respect the IVY League because for the last two years
they didn't play at all, no football or basketball. That
is crazy. The IVY League has gone basically two years
some change without without participating, and so it's different. It's different,
but they're doing it. And you're right because you pointed

(02:02:18):
out the revenue sports. The revenue sports are the ones
that are driving. There's basketball and football have to go
because they're a lifeline of the athletic departments. And so
that's why we're seeing it. That's why we're seeing march madness.
That's why we saw the push for them to play
games this year and get to the college football playoffs.
It is what it is. That is what we've learned
about the n C double A model. Yeah, and I'm selfish.
I'm happy they're playing, you know. I look, I could

(02:02:40):
sit on my rear random my couch and watch the games,
and I love that. But if I'm a parent of
a kid who's playing, I'm concerned. I'm worried. I really am.
I'm sure how many parents are. But Buck, I love
you to death. I want to thank you for having
me back as the encourt today and I wish you
nothing but success and we'll see you down the road.
See you
