Speaker 1 (00:01):
You're listening to Fox Sports. Yes, living the Drain once
again on another fabulous NFL Sunday. This is Fox Sports
Red Zone Radio. It is Steve Harpin Rich arm Burger
with you. We are getting ready to kick off seven
games around the NFL. Let's give you a quick rundown.
(00:21):
We got the Buccaneers at the Falcons, Cardinals at the Bears,
Chargers at the Bengals, Vikings at the Lions, Giants at
the Dolphins, Eagles at the Jets, and Colts at the Texans.
Week thirteen of the National Football League season. We're motoring
through this year. Rich we uh we actually had extended
(00:44):
time together. On Friday, came on my morning show, then
I co hosted your afternoon shows. We had plenty of
time to talk about this. You know, normally, you you
turn the page into the month of December and it's
like the stretch run, like you know, at the had
of December. Now you get ready for January. Austin, we
were talking about. Now with the extended eighteen week season,
(01:04):
seventeen games schedule, you get to the end of December,
Guess what, There's still two weeks left in the regular season.
So there's no letter. We got a long way to go,
six more weeks here, including this week of the NFL season,
and rich as we go into today, there's no question
there's a lot of things still that we decided right now. Yeah, yeah,
there really is. I mean these conferences near the top,
(01:27):
you start to see a little separation. Um. But but overall,
both the a f C and the NFC, there's a
lot of room for dark horse playoff candidates to make
a run, a late run, albeit, but a run for
a postseason seed. Um, there's gonna be I think, better
opportunities to see starters played deeper into the season because
(01:49):
you're gonna see competition for that one seed in these conferences,
it appears, and so I like it. I like the
fact that there aren't two seeds that get to sit
out that first weekend. I think adding a postseason team,
whereas I'm usually like a more is less or less
is more guy Like, I don't think that the NBA
has it right welcoming in more than half of their
(02:09):
league into their postseason. Midge league Baseball is completely lost.
I don't want to go down that rabbit hole. But
in the case of football, I thought this might dilute things.
I think it actually improved things by adding an extra
team to the post. Well, when you think about a
year ago and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers got in, um
you know, I mean you have the Bears as the
seven seed, but the Buccaneers they had to win three
(02:31):
straight road games just to get to a home game,
which turned out to be the Super Bowl. And the
first road game against Washington, Uh, with Taylor Heineke playing
against the goat Tom Brady, I mean, that was a
near loss for the Bucks. It was a lot of
fun to watch. How about this as we are sitting here,
is to kick off this NFL Sunday Week, thirteen road
teams have won more games than home teams this year.
(02:53):
How about it? Is that unbelievable? I mean, I don't know,
I don't know you would dig through the archives and
try to figure out this deep into the season that
road teams have won more games than the home team.
So that's where we are as we head into this week.
Third team. All right, a lot of things happening today
outside of this. We're gonna find out which four teams
are gonna end up in the college football playoffs? Is
(03:14):
that done? Is that done yet. Do we know yet
which teams are going to be in the College there
It is Alabama, Michigan, Georgia and Cincinnati. And Cincinnati makes
it into the playoff as well as they should have.
I don't know how you could have denied them because
they beat Notre Dame and that was that. Obama after
their stunning victory demolition of Georgia yesterday, proving once again
(03:37):
they are the team to be. They will be playing
Cincinnati in one semi and then Michigan and Georgia. That's
gonna be a hell of a matchup. George has got
to be in shock. I mean, this was a defense
that was giving up about six points a game. And
obviously Bryce Young wrapped up this Heisman Trophy yesterday, but
I mean, no one could have seen George's defense just
get throttled the way they did by that Alabama a
(04:00):
team yesterday. Well we know this about Alabama. If there's
any team to do it, it's a Nick Saban coached
Alabama team with a lot of talent. They have a
lot of talent every single year. So this is the
best of the best facing off against each other end
of the season. Both of them relatively healthy, um truly
a heavyweight title fight, and they may see each other again.
And for Cincinnati to make it the first group of
(04:22):
five school ever make it into the college football Playoff,
it's good news, bad news, good news because it does prove,
I guess, possible for a group of five team to
make it to the playoff because they just did it.
But also, by the way, Chargers have got a first
down inside the five yard line. We're gonna update you
on that. But also, you got three of the five
power conferences out No Big twelve, No Pack twelve, and
(04:46):
No A C C. And you know those three conferences
aren't happy right now with two SEC teams and a
group of five teams. So if anything else, what's gonna
happen here, They're gonna get back to the drawing board
and figure out an expansion of the college football Playoff,
no question about that. This this is long overdue, and
I think people are tired of seeing just four teams
(05:06):
in and I think because of uh, frankly, just the
conference realignment talk this decade, things are gonna get awfully
weird in college football and then it will settle down again.
But we're gonna see a lot of movement here in
the next really half a decade, probably the next five years,
everything's gonna look different, alright. So the game of the
morning definitely is this Chargers game against the Bengals. The Bengals,
(05:27):
after bad losses the Jets and Browns had a bye week,
have come back with back to back big performances, including
their blowout of the Steelers last week. Meanwhile, the Chargers
Rich have lost four their last six games, and it's
been a lack of defense, maybe a young quarterback trying
to do too much suddenly throwing a few more interceptions
(05:48):
then we saw a little bit earlier in the year.
But the Charges looking good on this opening dry They
have a third and goal right now. But these are
two teams featuring young quarterbacks that figure to be mainstays
in this league for many many years they had and
justin Herbert Joe Burrow. Which one are these two teams
right now? Looks more like a playoff team to you? Well,
you know you, it's it's I They're so even the
(06:11):
reason why I'm sitting here waffling is because they really
they both have had their problems, but they both have
elite quarterbacks in this league. And I truly feel that
way about Joe Burrow and Justin Herbert. Anybody who has
any questions as to whether or not the future of
the NFL is safe in the hands of the young
talent coming up through the QB ranks rest assured because
(06:32):
these two are going to be stars for years to come.
The Chargers went for a corner route on third and goal,
and they're gonna go for it on complete. Yeah, it
was a well designed play. It was essentially a pick
play that worked, but the Paul was over thrown too high.
They have a fourth and goal at the four yard line.
This has been the play for the Chargers all season long.
(06:53):
Touchdown Chargers keenan Allen over the middle of the defense,
just a stop route and a bullet thrown by Us
and Herbert through the heart of the Cincinnati defense. They
score first on the road, all right. So the Chargers
take the early six nothing lead, penning the extra point
against the Bengals. We got a lot of games of
interest today, no question about that. And by the way, Steve,
(07:14):
that was not the first touchdown of the day. The
Jets scored the first touchdown of the day, but also
the first missed extra point. There we go Alex Kesman
with the missed extra point for the Jets. That was
a touchdown pass by the way, Zack Wilson to Elijah Moore,
a little three yard touchdown pass. So indeed they only
(07:37):
had twenty yards on that drive. I don't know how
they got the ball in such great position. We'll find out.
But the Jets take an early six nothing lead against
the Philadelphia Eagles. Um. You know, again, looking around this
league right now, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are watching Tom
Brady in action right now going against this Atlanta Falcons team.
And we've been talking about this with the emergence of
(07:57):
the new Eingham Patriots. Of course they're gonna play tomorrow
night on the road against the Buffalo Bills. About the
possibility of a Patriots Buccaneers Super Bowl. Uh, the Bucks,
they'll have problems. I mean, they've got players suspended right now.
There seems to be some questions on how they've handled
the COVID situation, Like how is it that you went
(08:19):
into the season professing to be on vaccinated and now
you've got two active players a former player that we
find out lied about their vaccination cards. So there's a
little scrutiny right now, hovering over to the defending Super
Bowl champions. Yeah, there's no doubt about it. Here's the
way I feel about this um. Look, you know this
is true with any company, any business, you're gonna have
(08:42):
bad actors. And I'm not saying that necessarily. The three
players who were found guilty of this fence are bad people,
but they certainly made bad decisions like that is not
something that you can get away with in today's world.
And so unfortunately they get caught, They get suspended for
three games, send an awful lot of money, but you're
not missing an awful lot of talent. So outside of
(09:04):
just the media scrutiny, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers lost some
partial contributors to their team. All Right, Tampa Bay has
just scored touchdown. By the way, we are two for
two on extra points. Dustin Hopkins missed the extra point
for the Chargers. So the first two extra point attempts
of the day missed. We'll see how Tampa fares. It
(09:25):
was Leonard for Nett who got in the end zone
for the Tampa matched by Fournett by the way, he
got soft hands out of the backfield. This is something
that A lot of people watched this catch here by
four net. Yeah, it was just it was just a
flat route. Excuse me, it was really a corner route
that went to the pylon. Alright, let's see if you
make an extra point. Also, the Colts just got into
the end zone. We'll update you there against the hapless Texans.
(09:48):
All right, we're looking for and made extra point. We're
all for two on the day, and the extra point
is good. All right, so we finally got an extra point. Meanwhile,
Jonathan Taylor just got in the end zone. How many
times have we heard that as a and they did
it out of the Wildcats. So they set up with
uh three tight ends set two to the right side,
and what blocking by the offensive line on that play?
(10:09):
That was just a walk in for Jonathan Taylor. He
didn't have He barely had a run. That was just
a light pace jog into the end zone from five
yards out. Also, the Cardinals have taken early seven. Nothing
laid against the Bears. Man, we are often running here
early on this NFL Sunday. Let's hear the Jets score.
Zach Wilson right back into the shotgun poman who was
(10:31):
right against two receivers to the rush. Jets playing with
tempo play accents, slaps back in the end zone talk
touchdown I like to do alright, Jets Radio Network. Extra
point was missed. Six nothing, Jets lead the Eagles. All right,
we're just getting started right now. You know where to
hang you just hang with us. We will give you
all the scores, all the stats, everything you need to
know on this NFL Sunday. This is Fox Sports Red
(10:54):
Zone Radio's Fox rad Zone Radio, and we've got the
place that you may have missed. Motion man Titan left
the right, looking left, still looking left, Herbert shuffle speed middle,
the ends up, caught touchdown. Chargers Keenan Allen with a
(11:17):
bullet from Sustin Herbert. Now back live to the studios
of Fox Sports Radio. This is Fox Red Zone Radio. Hi,
that was k y s R and N eight seven
Chargers Radio Network. Chargers score touchdown, miss the extra point.
(11:39):
Now they just added a field goal. It is now
nine nothing. Chargers winning on the road against the Cincinnati Bengals.
Here we are in Fox Sports Red Zone Radio, brought
to you by one of our favorite cities, Las Vegas,
your home for it Live sports and that means all sports,
every game, match, race and competition. It is always on.
Now go on a planning your trips to visit Las
(12:01):
Vegas dot com see the best and brightest in Vegas,
the greatest arena on Earth. I'm gonna be in Vegas
in just two days. I'm there for the big College
Football Hall of Fame dinner. Our dear friend Eric Dickerson
is going to be inductive, one of the many inductees,
Carson Palmer Romo and uh so I'm gonna be enjoying
that big banquet coming up on Monday. Hey, let's hear
the Buccaneers getting on the board. Play action looks towards playoffs.
(12:24):
The ball he makes the catch touchdown Tampa Bay, one
handed catch of the Inzon. What a play by the
NFC offensive player of the week. All right, Nanty of
Rock and the Buccaneers radio netwar, But Atlanta answers back.
They have just scored. So that is seven seven right now,
Buccaneers and Falcons seven nothing, Cardinals over the Bears. Who
(12:45):
mentioned the Chargers nine nothing over the Bengals, no score, Vikings, Lions, Giants, Dolphins,
Eagles have come back to take a seven sixth lead
over the Jets, and the Colds lead the Texans by
a score of a seven to nothing. By the way,
Kyler Urry is back in this game against the Bears,
and he's looking like Kyler Murray. That hook up between
him and DeAndre Hopkins for their first score, of course,
(13:07):
scoring on the turnover, Dalton threw a pick and uh
it resulted in the seven points that are on the
boards right now for the Cardinals. I mean it was
it was a push right for a while there, We're
like Kyler Murray's running away with the m v P
early this season, he gets hurt. Colt McCoy goes in
for three games, goes two and one. So when you
(13:27):
talk about value to an organization, you sort of get
lost in that. Well, how valuable is Kyler Murray If
Colpe McCoy the backup could go to and one while
he's out, But then he goes and does Kyler Murray things,
and you're like, oh, yeah, that's right, he's pretty fantastic.
I know a lot of people are still hesitant to
say the Arizona Cardinals are the best team in the NFL,
(13:48):
although they are still sitting with the best record in
the league. How about this we mentioned the great road
record around the NFL. There's six and oh on the road. Yeah,
they had a loss a road game. Yet they are
six and oh on the road, three and two at
home on the road today against the Bears, and the
Cardinals are leading this game by a score of seven
and nothing. Normally at this time, you know, you've sort
(14:09):
of whiled the down, like you know, one or two
teams to really stand out as teams to beat. That
doesn't always mean they go on to win Super Bowls,
because we've seen plenty of upsets over the years, as
Rich experienced in his third season with the New England
Patriots losing to a lowly giant team in that Super Bowl.
But right now, I mean you you're looking at I mean,
(14:32):
on the A f C side, obviously, there's a huge
Monday night matchup where we got the Bills hosting the
New England Patriots. You got the Ravens who really haven't
looked right, but they're sort of there. You know. The
Titans have been trying to hang on to their playoff
position with the absence of Derrick Hennery. They seem to
be waffling. Right now, we're talking about this Bengals team
that came in looking good, but right now they're down
(14:53):
nothing nine nothing to the Chargers at home. The entire
a f C West goes into Week thirteen with a
winning record. I don't know if that's ever happened before.
Another interception for the Cardinals, Buddha Baker pixel Andy Dalton.
There's a flag on the field, so we'll see what
that is. But a rough day in Chicago, rainy day
for the Bear, pouring rain there and when it rains,
(15:14):
it pours, and it is for the Bears right now. Yeah,
this is not good for Matt Naggy who he may
have survived Thanksgiving weekend, but he's not going to survive
this season. I don't see that. He's there four and
seven and seemingly going nowhere right now. A team that's
snuck into the playoffs a year ago. Buccaneers have the
ball back seven seven their game right now against the Falcons.
(15:35):
And then look at that Brady pass Man that is
that is so on the money to God, when I
mean you talk about a guy who at age forty
four is in that m v P conversational question about
that this year when you can still make throws like
we just saw this thing is absolutely on the money,
well covered back shoulder perfect. Yeah. Yeah, it was just
(16:00):
uh yeah, you gotta right, Steve. It was just it
was just one of those corner routes. Yeah. God been
working the sideline from from the slap position and he
just put it in the only place. It was well
defended me to Atlanta's credit, like the corner who was
or Nickel who was facing Godwin was all over him
and looking back for the football. Clean little contact at
(16:23):
the top of the round. No problem there. But Brady
just finds a way to fit his passes in where
only his player has an opportunity to grab at it.
I don't know how he's doing it, because at twenty
eight years old in the NFL, my body was falling
to pieces. I mean I was legitimately being held together
by chewed bubblegum and paper clips. I had no idea
(16:45):
if I was gonna be able to last another down
my final season before finally hanging up and getting back surgery.
And this guy through it all and granted offensive one
very different positions, very different, but just another perfect this
time to Mike Evans him. All right, let's hear the
Falcons getting even in their game against these Bucks. First down,
(17:05):
they're gonna hand to Davis Mike left side at the
Tan Mike five, Mike touchdown at Latta whoa point nine
the game Falcons Radio Network. But now the Buccaneers of
answer back there now inside the ten yard line of
the Falcons looking to score again. Um. You know one
of the things that has sort of flown under the radar,
(17:28):
but it's out there, and that is the rising number
of positive tests around the National Football League for COVID.
Really quick, we have some breaking NFL news here, this
via Ian Rappaport just tweeted this out. The Panthers have
fired offensive coordinator Joe Brady. Wow. Wow, think about that
for a moment, right, So Matt Rule takes over at
(17:50):
Carolina and he gets the hottest offensive coordinating really wasn't
in the coordinator Ellis You remember, he was sort of
like the quarterback guru that turned Joe Burrow from just
a guy into one of the all time great college quarterbacks.
So they thought, all right, this is gonna be a
good dynamic and it didn't really work all that well
with Teddy Bridgewater, certainly didn't work well with Sam Donald
(18:13):
last week was a disaster with Cam Newton, and so
Joe Brady takes the fall. Well, somebody, how long is
Matt Rule gonna be around after that? Well, he's not
long for this job. We know how this goes. You know,
all of a sudden you start whittling it down to
common denominators, and you know, if you want to say,
while it was Joe Brady's, there better be improvement in
this offense. Immediately incept what a play. Joe Burrow throws
(18:38):
the ball down the side pass and it was on
the money. His receiver drops it, the ball pops up
in the air and a Charger's defensive back falls down
with it. Chargers football on the road against Jamar Chase,
who has been catching everything since the preseason, was right
in his hands and he interception off the tip ball.
(19:01):
Unbelievable play by this Chargers defense. Chargers lead by nine
nothing instance. He wow, I got a sinking feeling right now, now,
Rich last week I had one of those weeks where
I got everything right. My pick of the day, my
bonus picked this week Bengals minus three. My pick of
the week. I just thought, going in the Chargers are struggling.
(19:26):
They've lost four out of six. The Bengals just blowing
up teams the last couple of weeks. Plus the fact
that Joe Mixon is coming off a career day and
now he's going against the worst run defense in the NFL.
Now it's still really it's nine nothing. I mean, obviously,
but when you start watching the game and every bounce
is going one team's way, usually an indication of things
(19:48):
to come. The Buccaneers, Uh, how about this. They just
missed an extra point. Buccaneers score and they missed and
we got miss extra points folks all over the place, which,
by the way, from thirte three yards is absolutely inexcusable.
I don't know how teams employ kickers that can't make
an extra point. It's not like they're being blocked, they're
(20:11):
off the uprights, they're pulled, they're missed, just absolute misses.
So the Buccaneers have a thirteen seven lead over the Falcons.
That was sucked up there, that missed that extra point. Meanwhile,
the Vikings on the board early three nothing against the
Detroit Lions. Are the Lions gonna win a game this year?
What's the deal? Well, you know, I keep saying this,
and it's true what I say. The Detroit Lions are
(20:33):
one of the most confounding teams in the NFL right
now from the standpoint of their record versus how they
look when they play. I mean, they play virtually everyone
they face extremely tough. Um last game is a perfect example.
The loss of the Bears sixteen fourteen, the game prior
to that, the loss on the road to the Browns
thirteen ten, the tie to the Steelers sixteen all. I mean,
(20:56):
they got blown out by the Eagles, and you have
Dan Campbell, the head coach, called that game a river
of trash. But that was the only blowout that or
what was it? It was a sea of trash what
you call But that was only blowout lost. Other than that,
the Detroit lines had played everybody, including great teams on
their schedule, extremely close. So I have to imagine they're
(21:20):
gonna win one of these. Well again, when you got
a coach Stan Campbell, who is an emotional leader, and
you know they're fighting for this guy. But when you
get caught calling back to back time outs what turns
out to be the game winning drive, you can't do that.
And that's that's not only a no no, that's also
a delay game penalty. I charges trying to add to
(21:42):
their nine nothing lead, looking deep. And that's a great
catch right there. Mike Williams. Just jump ball and and
that's beautiful. When you have a receiver like Mike Williams
and he's going against a corner who's given up, I'm
gonna argue six inches. Just toss the ball up down
the sideline. Let your big man, your receiver with speed,
go play basketball. Perfect play, perfect pass, perfect catch. Chargers
(22:07):
are on a roll. All right, let's find out what's
trending right now. So we welcome infn Ralphie. How are
you today? I am glorious, gentlemen. I hope you are
doing as well on this interesting starts the NFL Saturday,
and it becomes interesting because we start with talking about
college football really quickly. Our final four is set. Number
(22:28):
one Alabama, number four Cincinnati that will be in the
Cotton Bowl. Number two Michigan will face number three Georgia
in the Orange Bowl. Those games will be on New
Year's Eve. Number five was Notre Dame. Number six Ohio State.
They're just on the outside looking in Oklahoma close to
bringing in Brent Venable's replacing Lincoln Riley as the head
coach of the Sooners. He was an assistant in Oklahoma
(22:49):
from eleven before he went to Clemson. And then we
talked about the NFL news as the Panthers cutting ties
with their offensive coordinator Joe A. D. Guys talked about
that Chargers interception Jamaar Chase with a catching ability like
Joe Brady, a lot of time, with a lot of success,
and then suddenly it's gone. Keep considering he had five
(23:12):
NFL job interviews head coach interviews this past off season.
Now he's fired as a coordinator. Now onto the field.
You mentioned at Minnesota forty one yard field goal from
Great Joseph. They lead Detroit three nothing, four fifty four
to play in the first quarter, Jonathan Taylor's touchdown run
giving Indie the seven nothing lead over Houston three and
a half to play in the first quarter. There the
(23:34):
Chargers with that nine nothing lead at Cincinnati to to
play in the first quarter, the Jets have just taken
back the lead Zack Wilson a one yard run twelve
seven Jets are they still reviewing this play, but right
now it is ruled a touchdown? Uh check that Now
the extra point was missed again. The extra point was
(23:57):
missed again. It's two misses for the Jets today in
your daily double seven Jets over Philadelphia three eight teen
to play in the first quarter of that contest. How
about Tom Brady rollout that Brady flo to the ends.
I'll call it vault touched out. Tampa Bay break Caber
break eighty four not eighty seven. Last Jean jecker Hoff
(24:17):
coming to you One Rock and the Buccaneers Radio Network.
Tampa Bay a thirteen seven leader at Atlanta three twenty
to play in the first quarter. The Arizona Cardinals doing
their damage Kyler Murray and nine yard touchdown run fourteen nothing.
They lead in a porning, rainy Chicago fourteen nothing, one
(24:37):
nine to play in the first quarter of that contest,
and in a shocker to No. One. The Jets and
Miamier scoreless thirty eight seconds left to play in the
first quarter. As we sent it back, it's Red Zone
Radio on Fox Sports Radio NFL Sunday, Steve Hartman and
rich One Hi Ralph and the Chargers have scored again.
A second touchdown passed from Justin Herbert to Keenan Alan
(25:01):
who was uncovered and wide open the end zones. So
the Bengals are reeling right now, down fifteen nothing. I say,
pennying extra point. We've had missed extra points all over
the place today. Uh, and we've already had one by
the Chargers. Let's see if they can actually salvage an
extra point. I'm holding my breath like this is like
the biggest player of the game now is an extra point?
Can they make it? He did? All right? So sixteen
(25:24):
nothing Chargers lead the Bengals and we are still in
the first quarter of that game. Meanwhile, the Jets, they
got on the board again. Wilson another quarterback sneak. This
time he scoops under a couple of blockers submarines for
the gold on. Is he in again? No signal from
the official there it is. That's a touch that Jets
(25:44):
radio network. And then Kessman missed his second extra point
of the game. So the Jets are leading the Eagles
by a score of twelve to seven. New York caught
a little bit of what the Los Angeles Chargers have
had for years now. They have no kicking and and
it's been a problem. They've evolved that door as much
as any team in the NFL of of recent note. Um,
(26:06):
But yeah, I just can't get right at the kicker position,
and that's been a problem for the Chargers. In fact,
it's been such a bizarre problem for the Chargers that
they'll bring in kickers, they'll struggle with the Chargers, they'll
leave and go sign with other teams and have instant success.
Like Josh Lambo became a very prominent kicker with the
Jacksonville Jaguars. You had Young Waiku who's revived his career
(26:29):
with the Falcons. You've had Michael Badgeley who's who's joined
the Cults and he's he's been fine. It's just a
very strange situation for the Chargers year after year. Absolutely
now Rich yesterday was in the city of Carson watching
Sandy Go steak at throttled by Utah State in the
Mountain West Conference Championship game. Speaking of kickers, they have
(26:50):
a punter by the name of matter Rice who had
a fabulous season this year, probably is gonna win the
Ray Guy Award as the nation's top hunter. When you
watch teams struggle with their kicking game, whether it's punting,
place kicking, or whatever, does this put even a higher
premium on going out and getting a kicker. By the way,
over the history of the NFL, there have been on
some high draft picks with kickers, and not all of
(27:12):
them have succeeded. So if you're a general manager, do
you roll the dice on a punter or kicker as
far as a first or second day draft pick? I mean,
don't get me wrong, Um, they are prized possessions on
your roster when you have a great kicker or I mean,
think of some of the grades right like Vinitary. Look
(27:34):
at the wind in Chicago. Justin Tucker. He's insanely accurate
and he's insanely uh consistent. Um, you know, you think
about great punters to the lecklers of of the past,
and it's just when you have a guy who can
boom it, who can change field position, When you have
(27:55):
a guy who can make from forty yards out, it
makes offense planning offensively and defensively so much easier because
it's difficult to score on a long field and it's
a lot easier as an offensive coordinator to dial up
your playbook when you have a kicker who can make
from far out. So should teams consider taking a high
draft pick attempt at a kicker, a punter, The answer
(28:16):
is most likely no, yeah, And the reason is because
general managers want to keep their jobs and if you
draft wrong at that position, there's no wiggle group. If
you get it wrong with a quarterback, people will give
you the benefit of doubt if you if you miss it,
they will never let you forget it. The Raiders made
right Guy a first round pick in nineteen seventy three
and never regretted it because obviously he ended up the
(28:38):
Hall of Fame one three Super Bowls with that team.
By the way, they just showed a shot at like
the top of the stadium, a Soldier Field in Chicago.
The wind is blowing, it's pouring rain, and I'm just
you know, you know this as well as I do.
There's there's cold wind in a lot of cities, but
there's nothing like Chicago. I mean, I remember going to
(28:59):
a bar Is game and that wind blows off that
lake and I mean, I don't know what the temperature was.
It just felt twenty degrees colder than it actually was.
It's insane how cold it is. When I was with
New England, we played i want to say a late
November December game, I soldier field and and what you
(29:21):
just said, there was snow blanketing the field. We shoveled
it off before the game, and I remember we went
out for pregame warm up and that wind just cuts
right through your soul. It's ridiculous. Let's go to Ralph
Irvan Ryan now Ralphie real quick, guys. Uh. Just James
Palmer from NFL Network reporting that Joey Bosa headed the
locker room without a helmet. So while things are rosy
(29:44):
on the scoreboard in Cincinnati, not good for the Chargers. Yeah,
well they're good and they're up sixteen nothing. But we
did see him go off the field. We don't know
what injury he is suffering, but losing Joey Bosa could
do some damage, but not the way the Bengals defense
is playing today. I is here. The Cardinals are rolling
it up. Murray takes the shotguns, nap straight, drop back,
(30:04):
washed out of the pocket, rolling white pink chase. He talks,
He runs at the five and he heads to the
corner and he's into the end zone for the touchdown.
That is FM Arizona Sports a station. So the Cardinals
up on the Bears and freezing Soldier Field by a
score of fourteen to nothing. And Kyler Murray's got thirty
(30:26):
yards through the air and a touchdown, and he has
seventeen yards rushing in a touchdown. So Murray two touchdowns
responsible for early on in this game on the road
against the Bears. What a beautiful play. I just wentness.
Joe Burrow completed a pass, just a crossing pattern over
the middle. Just Jamaar Chase settling down in the middle
of his zone, gets his hands on the football and convert,
(30:48):
converts the third down. But there's a holding call on
the play, So the repeat third down and it's third
and forever now on their own side of the field. Yeah,
it is not the Bengals day. And here's proof of it. No,
Herbert keeps it and so touched Chargers Pete and Alan
with his second of the day. Herbert with his second
(31:09):
of the day k y SR Chargers Radio Network. So
Chargers leading the Bengals sixteen to nothing. As we've come
to the end of the first quarter in that game,
the Vikings have added a second field goal. They lead
the Lions six nothing inside a minute to go in
the first quarter. There we're in the second quarter, right now,
we got no score Giants and the Dolphins. The Dolphins
(31:30):
have won four straight games going into this game rich
after that one and seven star Bryan Flores was under fire.
But this team has found their way at least over
the last four games. But right now the Giants are
hanging tough. No score in this game. By the way,
Mike Glennon is the quarterback for the Giants today and
he's eleven of thirteen seventy five yards but has thrown
(31:53):
an interception to a tongue of viola. Is struggling throwing
the ball early on just four or six for twenty
six yards. And you know, you go into this game saying,
is Daniel Jones a franchise quarterback is to a tongue
of iolo of franchise quarterback? You know, yesterday we saw
a guy that's certainly uh is on his way to
(32:14):
winning a Heisman Trophy UH at Alabama. But you know
he and c. J. Stroud are both young quarterbacks that
have to play another year of college ball. They're not
eligible until the tree NFL Draft. And whether it's Bryce
Young or uh Stroud right now because this year's draft,
I don't know. Pick it. You know, I had a
(32:35):
pretty good senior year for pitt. I mean, the guy
was it was almost like a Joe Burrow situation where
he can pick it. Had been there for a couple
of years, no one really taking any notice as the guy,
and all of a sudden he throws forty two touchdown
passes and leads bit to an a c C championship.
Is he a guy late bloomer so to speak, where
all of a sudden, maybe this guy is gonna rise
up the charge because once again everyone's in search of
(32:57):
a franchise quarterback and what maybe a third this league
has what we would term a franchise quarterback. We we
uh don't underrate the power of the off season uh
draft machine, because what's going to happen is you're gonna
see a guy like pick It out of pit or
Carson Strong out of Nevada, or you know name him.
They come out of everywhere and and their stock rises
(33:20):
in the off season. And why it's because even if
they weren't the best at the college level, even if
they were just passable or at sometimes great other times
not so great, their stock rises because it's such a
position of premium at the NFL level, and a lot
of these coaches, a lot of these offensive coaches especially,
have egos in this league and think, well, just let
me get my hands on him, and I can make
(33:42):
him a winner at this level as long as he
has the skills. Now, in terms of Daniel Jones into
a tongue of Valo of both, there's some issues, man,
because I look at two against the teams that he's
supposed to be he shines, you know what I mean.
His recent games against Carolina, New York, the Jets, against
the Alanta Falcons, he looks great. But when he plays
against better defenses like the Buffalo Bills or the Baltimore Ravens,
(34:07):
he really struggles. He needs to start playing better against
better defenses before he's gonna be trusted as a franchise
guy in Miami. Al Right, Eagles have retaken the lead.
Let's see here, Gardner Minshew touchdown to Goddard Goddard. Alright,
so there you go. Gardner Minshew by the way, at
(34:27):
quarterback today for the Eagles. Uh, he's seven for seven
a hundred yards in a touchdown. Yes, who's back? Yeah Minshew?
Magic Minshew up and happy with Jalen Hurts. The last
couple of weeks talking about decision making with Jalen Hurts.
So Gardner Minshew getting the start for the Eagles today
and he's now well, wait eight for eight hundred twenty
(34:48):
five yards and two touchdowns. He is the greatest quarterback
in the history of the National Football lad Do you
think that's what it is? I don't know is anybody
better than eighth for eight hund yards to challenge? By
the way, that's a passer rating, that's perfect one eight
point three. All right, we're rolling along. We got a
lot of action going on very early on this Sunday
(35:08):
around the NFL Week thirteen. Just keep it here for
all your updates. This is Fox Sports Red Zone Radio.
He's my Karmen. I'm Dan Buyer. Do We have a

ready to dominate the competition, listen to I Want Your
Flex with Mike Carmen and Met Dan Buyer on the
(35:50):
I Heart Radio app, Apple Podcast and wherever you get
your podcasts. Oh, this is Fox reds Own Radio and
we've got the plays that you may admits. Sho takes
the snack, he backs up. It looks he is looking
in catching it daughter and for a second touchdown. Maybe
(36:12):
look he's now back live to the studios of Fox
Sports Radio. This is Fox Red Zone Radio. That's ninety
four w i P Eagles Radio Network. Perfect star for
Gardner Minshew and for the injured jail and hers. Today
(36:34):
eight for eight hundred yards, two touchdowns and because the
Eagles can make extra points, they lead the Jets fourteen
to twelve. The Jets of miss both of their extra
point attempts. Today, the Giants finally get on the board.
They take a three nothing lead against the Dolphins. Not
much happening in that Colts Texans game. UH Jonathan Taylor
had an early touchdown. Still seven nothing, Colts leading their
(36:57):
uh Cardinals Bears. Bears do get in the end zone.
So now fourteen seven Cardinals leading the Bears, and we've
been watching this Chargers Bengals game. As a little surprise here,
Rich Chargers had a fourth and seven at the Bengals
forty yard line. All year long, Brandon Staley has been
going with the analytics saying, yeah, I'm I'm going for it.
(37:20):
And we were in Bengals territory, We got all the momentum,
Chargers leading sixteen nothing, they decide a punt and they
put into the end zone. So that's a net punt
of fifteen yards. Yeah, that's not good analytics there. Yeah,
So so I'm looking at the actual analytics. It's, uh,
it's a toss up. So when you when you look
(37:41):
at the success rate for a punt versus a field
goal attempt versus a go for it, they're all they're
all equal because if you punt successfully and pin them deep,
you're going to have a short field next time. If
you go for it, you have about an eighty two
percent chance of getting the yardage needed. Uh. And if
you turn it over, there's there's a long field that
(38:03):
your opponent faces and then a field goals and about
so either way you dice it. This is a clean
decision from from the head coach because he's got about
even odds that it works out in their favor whatever direction.
He goes hell and we got breaking news, breaking news.
The Lions got in the end zone. The snap back looks, grows,
(38:24):
ends up, talk touchsdown. Detroit Lions t J hawcketson w
x Y t FM one the Ticket Lions radio network.
So the Lions have a seven to sixth lead, looking
for their first win of the season. They are oh
and five at home this year, but right now they
(38:44):
have a seven sixth lead over the Minnesota Vikings. Again,
a lot of those teams when you look at the
standings right now playoffs standings in the NFC. Currently the
final playoff spot, the number seven seed is held down
by a five and six Washington foot ball team. Right now,
they're in that seven slot. We have an injury update
right now. Let's go over to Ralph Irvin. What do
(39:06):
you got for us, Ralph when you're talking about that
Detroit Minnesota game. Minnesota not the same offense without Adam
feeling out with an ankle injury. Well, that hurts. And
again I mentioned the five weeks questionable, but he is
pretty much they're talking about him being out all right, Well,
we'll keep an eye on that. The Vikings desperately need
to win this game. They keep their hopes alive of
staying in the playoff chase, like the Washington football team.
(39:29):
They come into this week of the record of five
and six. Meanwhile, we're just watching this Charger defense eat
up Joe Burrow big sack on a third and eight,
So that was they take it over after the bad
punt by the Chargers and they go nowhere they have
negative yards. So I'm a week to week in the NFL.
I don't know. I explained that. You look at the Bengals.
The last couple of weeks, offense was clicking up. Everything
(39:52):
is rolling good, Joe Burrow back on track, and today
they've been doing nothing against the Chargers. Well, and this
is a Chargers team right now that's playing shortmanned up
front on their defensive line, so getting that sack is
even more impressive. Joey Bosa walked to the locker room
without his helmet on, so they're getting this done. They're
getting pressure on Borrow regardless of missing a Pro Bowl
(40:13):
pass rusher last two weeks, Joe Mixon had a hundred
twenty three yards against the Raiders a hundred and sixty
five yards against the Steelers. Both those games, he scored
a couple of touchdowns. Today, six carries two yards against
the worst run defense, dead last in the NFL. You
(40:33):
try to explain this leak to me, will you place?
You can't. And this is why I was all in
on the Bengals today as my pick of the day. It's, uh,
it's a season anybody you talked to about this year,
it's I mean, look to your point, um, he's recorded
multiple touchdowns Joe mixing in four straight games. Todowns hot.
I mean, outside of maybe Jonathan Taylor in the absence
(40:55):
of Derrick Henry, these are the two hottest running backs
in the way. That is the longest current streak in
the NFL today, and that is the longest streak ever
in franchise history in Cincinnati Bengals uh long history as
an FC T I mean, it doesn't make much sense
that they've been able to bottle him up today, But
somehow this Chargers run defense is doing the task. Justin
(41:18):
Herbert by the way, ten of four yards, two touchdowns
and no pick, so he's putting up some mighty numbers.
Right now. We just got a field goal from Atlanta.
Is that right? The Falcons just got a field goal.
Thirteen ten. Now Buccaneers lead the Atlanta Falcons. All right,
we still got a long way to go. Busy Sunday.

Now it's time for the NFL Fox Focus. Hi, this
(42:04):
is Fox Sports Red Zone Radio. Harbin and Orn Burger
with you, brought to you by one of our favorite cities,
Las Vegas, the greatest arena on Earth. Playing your tip
today at visit Las Vegas dot com and joining us
right now. He's gonna be on the call for the
game later on as the Raiders will host the Washington
football team. Greg Olsen joining us once again here on
Fox Sports Radio. And you know, Greg, first of all,
(42:27):
thanks for joining us. We always appreciate your time getting
ready for this matchup between the Raiders and the Washington
football team. And as we head into week third, team.
Both of these teams are started trying to hang on
to the idea of making the postseason. Technically, Washingtons there's
a seventh seed despite their five and six record. The Raiders,
at six and five, are the eighth seed going into
(42:49):
this week. So when you look at these two teams, Greg,
which team do you think looks most like a playoff
team heady into week thirteam? You know, I think the team.
I think they both have a shot. You know, as
you said, they're both really in the mix. You know,
Las Vegas a little further down than Washington is, albeit
not that much. I just think Washington might have the
(43:10):
slight advantage just due to the fact that after today,
the last five games, they kind of control their destiny
playing within their division of the you know, it's been
a long time, you know, since the nineties that a
team will finish the season with five divisional games. So
if you're Washington, you know, you get through today and
you go back home, you're telling you guys, you know,
we got a five game, We got a five game
spurred here within our division. We control our own destiny.
(43:32):
We'll they'll play the Cowboys twice. You know, the team
right now it's obviously first in that division. So I
think just if there's gonna be a tie, I think
the tie goes to the team that has the most
divisional opportunities to get wins and and and move up
the ladder. And you know, everyone's ultimate goal every year
is to win their division. And you know, a few
weeks ago, you didn't think Washington, the fact that we're
talking about Washington potentially, you know, passing by Dallas seemed
(43:56):
all but impossible and a few weeks ago, but yet
that's where we are. You know. I saw an interesting
stat leading up to this game this week, Greg. The
Raiders are six and oh this season when Derek Carr
throws for three hundred plus yards, But most of those
performances when were when he had Henry Ruggs. You know,
So how did the Raiders get back to what they
were doing? Uh? Pre I I want to just say incident,
(44:19):
I guess with Henry Rugg's off the field that led
to him not being with the team any longer. Yeah,
and that and that's been something that everyone all week,
and you know, for the last few weeks has talked
about it. Of course, that was a tragedy and a
terrible situation to to lose a player, you know, for
those reasons, um, you know, but as far as the
football is concerned, you know, he brought a lot. You know,
he brought what they're trying to fill in, you know
(44:39):
with with the signing of the Shawan Jackson and that
downfield threat and what looked to be a slow, you know,
kind of integration of of of DeShawn into the offense.
The last week looked like it came to life. You know,
he made some really impactful plays on that Thanksgiving Day
game against Dallas and if they can continue to have that,
you know, that kind of level of impact and DeShawn
and getting down the field been put layers into the
(45:01):
defense very similar to Henry Ruggs did for them earlier
in the year. That's really what this offense wants to be.
Derek Carr wants to push the ball downfield. He wants
this to be a pass first offense. And as you said,
when they are successful in passing the ball and preventing
the turnovers, they they're six and oh. So that's their formula.
That's who they need to be. And and you know,
especially without without Darren Waller today, you know, Deshan Jackson's
(45:24):
role in this offense, I think is gonna continue to
grow each week. Great, you had a long and successful
career in the NFL. I was just thinking about this.
You know, normally you guys would turn the page in December.
Has been a long season, and now you're either on
one of those teams grinding to get into the postseason
or playing out the string and then it's January and
the playoffs. But we get to the end of December
(45:45):
this year, guess what, there's still two weeks left in
the regular season. It doesn't then until January eleven, the
added week, the added game. Will it have any impact?
Do you think this season in the NFL? Ya know,
I I don't. I think in the grand scheme of things,
whether you play sixteen or seventeen, I know it feels longer.
(46:05):
I know it looks longer on the calendar. I know
there's been a lot of conversation, what seems like, for
years about whether the NFL was going to expand and
add that eighteenth week, seventeenth game. You know, I think,
but once you're in the thick of it, at this point,
you've kind of gotten your routine. You're so focused each week,
especially the for the contending teams. I'll tell you the
teams that are gonna feel long are the teams that
are out of it. You know that who are out
(46:25):
of it five weeks ago and they're just trying to
survive and and get to the off season. But for
the teams that are in the playoff hunt, for teams
that are so locked in each week, where each game
is so vitally important, I don't think that extra game
going into January and pushing the season back a week
or two is gonna really have much effect. I think
injuries are pretty much a commonality regardless of the length
of the season. Um. I do think there is an
(46:47):
element to when you get your by. I think maybe
this year, the later by seems to be helping, you know,
the so called playoff contenders and the title contenders. So
I think there might be a little element of luck
based on when the schedule makers gave you your I.
But but all in all, I think if you find
yourself in the playoff hunt and you're a team that
feels like they have a shot, I don't think the
idea of playing one more game is really having too
(47:08):
much effect on your mindset. We have some overlap. Here
is Jack del Rio's defensive coordinator for this Washington football team.
He was the Raiders head coach until seventeen. He was
fired after a six and ten season. However, that season
we all remember at twelve and four Derek cart On
a on an m v P chase before his injury.
(47:29):
He had success with the Raiders so much so it
was their first playoff birth since the early two thousands. Um,
there's only a couple of players left on the Raiders
who actually played under del Rio when he was the
head coach. But is this a little bit of a
grudge match? You know del Rio grew up a Raiders coach,
you know, playing against the old team for the first
time in Vegas? Is is this gonna be one of
(47:50):
those wins that he's really hoped to have in his
back pocket. Did you get a chance to talk to him?
You know, we we didn't have a chance to talk
to him. Hopefully we can grab him before where the
where the game starts here in pregames shortly. But I
think any coach or any player that goes back to
an organization where they had, you know, an element of
their career and let alone a lot of success. I
(48:11):
think it's always a little bit of a different experience,
and I think, you know, you'll hear coaches and players
around the league say, oh, it's just another game and
it's no different. But inside, I mean, I've been there,
you know, when I when I got traded to Carolina
from Chicago. The first year I was gone, we went
back to Soldier Field and played them, and it is different.
You know, you see a lot of familiar faces, you
see those uniforms, you you know, a lot of memories
(48:31):
that you know come flooding back, you know, the good,
the bad, And like you said, you know in sixth team,
that Raiders team is a is a Derek Carr injury
away from you know who. Who knows how far they
take it, you know, AFC Champ. I mean, who knows, right,
you don't know the you don't know the future, you know,
after that injury kind of derailed them, so and I'm
sure he brings back a lot of those memories. No
one likes to be fired, no one likes to be
(48:51):
told or moving on without you. So I think for
him to come back out here, there's no doubt in
my mind that he's saying I hope, I want, I
need my defense to go have a good showing, and uh,
today would be a great day for it. Greg, I
just have a personal question for you, if it's okay,
I mean, fourteen years in the NFL, you retire, this
your first year broadcasting, and by the way, you're doing
(49:12):
a great job. We see everywhere sometimes you're in a
pre game obviously you're calling games and everything else. But
as a guy that played as long as you did
in the NFL and now you're on the other side
of it as a broadcaster, what has it been like?
I mean, have you have you got a new perspective
on the game? What what exactly have been your observations
as an observer rather than a participant in the NFL.
(49:35):
You know, I think you appreciate from the outside. You know,
you appreciate what these guys do. You know, when you're
in the thick of it and you're in that week
the week grind and season after season, it's all you know.
You know, it's the world that I lived in for
a long time, and when you're in it, you don't
really have any other perspective that but from the inside.
But now that you move out and you're watching these
guys and you're seeing what they battle through, and you're talking,
you know, you're talking to them during the week, and
(49:56):
they're getting through injuries and they're hoping to practice and
they're hoping to get on the game. You just have
such a respect for the grind that these guys go through.
And you know, now looking at it from the other
side and sitting up in the booth and preparing for games.
You know, I watch a lot of offense. I watch
a lot of defense. You know, you're watching special teams.
You're really studying the entire game. You know. As a player,
you know, I was really just focused on the other
team's defense, right what their offense did didn't really have
(50:18):
much concern for me. So, you know, opening my eyes
a little bit to studying other play callers, studying other systems,
you know, different type, you know, talking to the coaches,
still being engaged with the with the you know, with
the players and the staffs. It's it's really been a
fun and eye opening experience. You know, It's it's been challenging.
There's a lot of things to learn. Um, you know,
every time, every week it seems like there's something new
(50:38):
that I'm learning, So it's been a fun challenge for me.
It's been a great way to stay engaged with the game,
the game that I've been involved this for a long
time that I really enjoyed talking, I really enjoyed observing
and studying. So it's been kind of the next best
thing for me at this stage of my career after
stepping away from playing, to still be able to each Sunday,
you know, get a little nervous butterflies getting ready to
(51:00):
at this point call a game as opposed to worrying
about going out there and playing. Yeah, you know, And
and we were just before we had you on reviewing
some of your stats throughout your career, and it's just
amazing what you were able to accomplish, especially later in
your career as the tight end position developed into way
more of a passing target. Do you feel like, in
some part, in some small way, you shepherded in a
(51:22):
new age of tight end play in the NFL, because
really and truly you and your contemporaries were on the
front edge of what we're seeing now with the Darren
Wallers or the gronks of of today's NFL. Yeah, you know,
I think each each generation of players that you know,
particular position kind of hopefully raises the bar for the
(51:43):
guys to come past them. You know, the guys that
were on the front to the front end of my career,
you know, the Tony Gonzales and the Antonio Gates and
Witten and you know, those guys just elevated the position
on the backs of Shannon Sharp, and you know, it
just kind of goes down through history. There's always that
guy or two or handful. As I think now the differences,
they're just more of them. Right you look around the
(52:03):
league right now and what the tight ends. It seems
like every single team who has a good offense, every
single team who's a playoff contender, a Super Bowl contender,
the one thing they all have is they have a
tight end who's a threat in the passing game. They
can create mismatches, and I think offensive coordinators and play
callers are really understanding just how dynamic that position can
be if you can find one. So I think we're
(52:24):
seeing it continue to grow. In the college game. You
saw what that guy from Georgia dude did, Yes, hey
against Alabama. I know they lost, but he was incredible.
I mean, you're just seeing the position take on such
more prominence at all levels of football. And that's and
and as a big advocate for the position, and as
a big fan and someone who really appreciates what's asked
of the tight end, you know, I hate that Waller
(52:46):
is not playing today. You know he I could have
talked for three hours on how special he is. But
you know, it's it's a fun position to play, it's
a challenging position to play. And I think it's kind
of cool that over the course of my career I
saw the interest in the respect, in the notoriety of
the position just continue to grow. All right, it's gonna
be the Raiders hosting the Washington football team on Fox,
(53:07):
and this man, Greg Olsen is gonna be there to
give you all the flavor of what's happening in the game. Greg,
we always appreciate at the time, have a great afternoon,
Thanks so much. Appreciate it. That's Greg Olsen there all right.
On the other side, we're gonna get right back to
everything that's currently going on. We've got seven games right
now around the NFL and we're approaching halftime and all
(53:28):
those games, keep it right here. This is Fox Sports.

catching up to do after our interview with Greg Olsen.
(54:12):
Preview in the game between the Raiders and the Washington

end zone. Four the touchdown. I thought it was wrong

connern FM Arizona's sports station. So the Cardinals lead the
Bears right now one seven. We got a minute to
go in the half. Kyler Murray has thrown two touchdown passes.
He has also scored a touchdown on the ground. Meanwhile,
the Jets have shown some life today. Crowder and Molson's
left to right tea receivers left back to throw Wilson
(54:54):
cloating in the ends on. There's a wide open touchdown
crab for Ryan Griffith, the tight a leaked off the line,
and a touch pass for Zach Wilson. Jets Radio Network,
bad news. So the Jets they have three touchdowns, so
we haven't made an extra point to miss kicks and
to miss two point conversion. They trailed the Eagles thirty
(55:14):
seconds to go in the first half of this game.
Team of the Day the Chargers takes the hand off,
sets his feet, takes a shot down to the left corner,
has Jalen Giton and that ball is there's a flag,
there is a fight for it, and it is a touchdown.
Hand off tackler on the reverse to Chenan Philly special Herbert,
(55:35):
it's good, Hey y s R seven Chargers Radio Network.
That gave the Chargers a twenty four to nothing lead
against the Bengals. Butt and we're gonna have an update
on this in a moment. The Bengals have just scored again,
so now it's twenty four to twelve. Still over two
and a half minutes to go on the first half.
The Bengals trying to amount a comeback against the Chargers
(55:57):
in that game. How about the Lions today? Golf takes turns,
wants to throw off the play acts if fake does
take middle to a touchs down Detroit Lions prock right, Hey,
rookie tot fick tot stomp w x y t FM

(56:18):
believe it? The Lions have a seventeen six lead against
the five Kings. Minute have to go on the half.
Lions looking for their first win of the year. Buccaneers, Well,
they won a lot of games this year, Brady half
time blood. Let's go on the cross the clock Bronkowski
five three to one touch stout Tampa Bay Brodkowski ninety
a rock and the Buccaneers Radio Network bucks right now
(56:40):
leading the Falcons twenty to seventeen, twenty two seconds to
go on the half. Hey, let's go back to the
Eagles taking a lead. It goes to gangwell up the
middle league class practice cocker at the time, touchdown kind
of Kangwell, that's ninety four w I P. Eagles Radio
Network Eagles have just added a field goal, goes over
(57:00):
the Jets nineteen seconds to go in the half. Give
me one more highlight. How about the Bengals coming back?
Burrow drops back to throw flings at deep down field

Higgins as t used his height and his wing spanned
(57:21):
a holiday in all right, Bengals Radio Network. They have
come back from a twenty four nothing deficit, now trailing
the Chargers with two forty to go in the half.
I'm exhausted. So that's a lot of highlights we have had.
I mean, really, you know, recent weeks, richly have been
sitting here sort of like complaining that we haven't seen
a whole lot of scoring defenses taken over. But at
(57:41):
least the seven games you going going on right now,
we've seen plenty of offense today. All right. A couple
of injury situations to keep an eye on us. This
game approaches halftime between the Los Angeles Chargers and the Bengals.
Chargers leading them right now in Cincinnati. Bosa already out
for now. We'll see if he can return in the
second half. Uh Joe Burrow injured his finger on that
(58:05):
rushing touchdown. Uh, we'll see if that has any effect
on his throwing ability, but it is it's his right pinky.
He was holding it as he ran off the field
to the sideline. And they're showing on the television broadcast
him getting taped up on that pinky by a member
of the athletic training staff. To other games that we
(58:25):
didn't have any highlights on, just one an update. Two
Dolphins leading the Giants ten to three at the half,
and the Colts are leading the Texans fourteen to nothing,
and uh, we had twenty five seconds to go in
the half and that game all right, let's go back
to a Colts highlight. Wins pulling it out of Taylor.
He throws upfield and it is a catch for Ashton
(58:46):
del and fit it touchdown. What a catch? Do it?
And he too drops himself in the back of the
ends and with the snag he got two puppies and
bowls and from the back hiad line touchdown. Colt Colts
Radio Network And so the cold seat in this game
fourteen nothing. By the way, interested in this game again,
just about at halftime. Jonathan Taylor Rich has nineteen carries
(59:10):
in the first half of this game sixty seven yards,
so it's only three and a half yards to carry
one touchdown. But Carson Wentz is only thrown twelve passes
eight to twelve sixty eight yards to score. No picks
for Carson Wentz. But it's apparent now that Frank Reich
has decided we're just gonna pound the football. If you
keep down the past attempts for Carson wins, that's actually
(59:33):
a good thing for this Colts team. Yeah, and it
and it has been the recipe for success, especially as
of late with this Indianapolis Colts team. Carson Wentz is
a fine quarterback. He's not what he used to be
pre injuries in Philadelphia, but he's having one of those
years where you look at the statistics and again just
the statistics, and you say, this is a guy who's
(59:54):
keeping this team together to a certain extent. He's thrown
close to three thousand yards on the season, he's close
to cracking the top ten there. He's thrown twenty one
touchdowns to five interceptions, so he's protecting the football. I mean,
this is what you need to do if you're going
to run an offense with an extremely talented running back
and in a supremely talented offensive line, just play keep away,
(01:00:18):
be you know, don't give it away, and let what
your your team essentially wants you to do, which is
played great defense which they can and rush the football
and they're doing that. By the way. A couple of
things in this Bengals come back against the Chargers again.
Charges have dominated this game. They're up twenty four nothing.
The Bengals then scored a touchdown to get to six.
(01:00:38):
Makes sense you go for a two point conversion. They
get called for delay of game. On a two point conversion.
Joe makes it with throwing his hands up in the air,
so they bring on the kicker for the extra point missed.
Then the Bengals got the ball on a fumble that
a lot of people were looking at this play about
Austin Ekeler went down. They rolled a fumble in the field.
(01:01:01):
The replay seemed to show his knee was down, but
it was upheld, and then the Bengals doe down to score.
Let's hear it right now, Golf from the six burrow
will look to pass looking running coming up the middle
of the field, and he will go into the end
zone standing up touchdown. Bengals as Burrow scores his second
(01:01:24):
rushing touchdown in as many weights. Alright, so that is
the Bengals radio network right now. So what appeared to
be over a game suddenly is a game. As the
Bengals trailed the game by keep the highlights coming, Sam
being golf from the five to we're rolling. Thus throws
in touchdown, like hang on, hang on it. Hollins bobble
(01:01:48):
it right at the corner, but I think he kept
ongo it. Let's look take ahot look at it. But
they called him a touchdown. They bobbled it and he
kept those feet in. They're gonna give him the touchdown.
That's mac Collins alright, A and five sixty the Joe
q a M. Dolphins radio network. So Dolphins lee. The
Giants tend to three at the half to a tongue
of VLO twenty one twenty five. But get this, Rich
(01:02:09):
for only a hundred and thirty seven yards, they're averaging
six and a half yards per reception in this game.
They have only twenty eight yards rushing, but going against
a struggling Giants team, it's enough. As the Dolphins are
looking for their fifth straight win. Yeah, look, you know
when it's good, it's good in this league. This year.
You know, we saw the Dallas Cowboys early on rack Off.
(01:02:32):
I believe it was a six game winning streak, the
Patriots on her six game winning streak. The Dolphins are
on a five game winning streak. If they can put
away the Giants today. It's strange, right We're seeing a
very streaky year in the NFL. Teams are able to
put it together for weeks and weeks on end, and
then all of a sudden, a drought hits. And it's
hit virtually every team that's went on a lengthy win streak,
(01:02:55):
and and I guess it's better to be to be
great late this you have momentum going into the postseason.
But it's been such a weird year. And that's the
reason why the middle of both these conferences and the
playoff chases is wide open right now, because nobody can
get the ball rolling in their direction consistently enough this year.
Another crazy day, another crazy Sunday in the NFL. To
(01:03:20):
make sense of it all, let's find out what's trendy
right now. Ralph Irvan, he's one of those guys that
sort of a voice of reason into what's happening around
the national football like, what do you got for us here?
Let's follow up on what Rich was talking about with
Joe Burrow. Basically, every time they're showing him throwing on
the sidelines, every time he's throwing, he's wincing. Now, the
interesting thing is this game still us a minute and
(01:03:41):
a half to play in the first half of everybody
else is at halftime, are about to go to halftime,
so he's gonna be able to get some treatment. But
it will be interesting to see as this is now
an eleven point game, will they have to maybe start
to rely on Joe Mixon in a comeback effort. Who
knows could be. But the Chargers do lead over Cincinnati again,
(01:04:01):
one to play in the first half. Fifteen seconds to
go in the first half in Detroit where the Lions
have a seventeen six lead over bid Minnesota. Jared Goff
two touchdown passes so far in this game. Everything else
at the half Philadelphia two touchdown passes for Gardner Minshew.
(01:04:22):
They have lead over the New York Jets. Indianapolis. You
mentioned the fourteen nothing lead over Houston at the half.
Tampa Bay interesting game. Tom Brady three touchdown passes. He
also has thrown a pick six five straight games that
Brady has thrown in an interception. It's seventeen Tampa Bay
over Atlanta. Arizona has two touchdown passes from Kyler Murray.
(01:04:46):
He's also run for a score seven. They lead at
Chicago at the intermission and to a Tonga Voloa again
with the touchdown pass. Miami a ten three lead over
the Giants. And talk about twa on the day. Tw
me one of thirty seven yards passing and the one score.
So it's been a pretty good day for a lot
(01:05:06):
of quarterbacks in the league. And who knows Cincinnati maybe
be able to make amount of comeback against the Chargers
in this contest one tend to play again. They're down
eleven and they just picked off Justin Herbert. It looks
like so yeah, uh tell you what, what looked like
an absolute laugher. They're not laughing right now. Uh. The
(01:05:26):
Chargers were up twenty four to nothing. I mean, it
was just a miserable day for the Bengals. But Justin
Herbert just got sacked twice here rich and then he
just threw up an interception and they get the ball
near midfield. Now, we're gonna see about the condition of
Joe Burrows. Ralph mentioned during the update he was seemed
to be wincing every time he was throwing the ball.
(01:05:47):
But he's gonna be back on the field still over
a minute ago in the first half. So what looked
like an absolutely, you know, turn off the game. Let's
move on to something else. Very much a game right now,
Bengales down by eleven with a minute end to go
in the first half. Yeah, a lot of injuries on
the field today. We mentioned Joey Bossa and then Joe
Burrow and then a Noonway one of the corners for
(01:06:07):
the Bengals had to be carried off the field after
that interception, a lower injury, leg injury for sure. But
Joe Burrow, he is helming this offense for Cincinnati coming
off the down. Ye Yeah, the return went back to midfield,
but apparently a knee was down early. So where the
interception was made at their own twelve yard line. All right,
(01:06:29):
let's get to a Falcon's comeback against the box. So
here's Brady three steps gonna loop into four dads intercept
that touchdown at Latta. Oh my goodness, holy spokes. Marlon
Davidson has a pick six off Tom Brady. Yeah nine
the game Falcons Radio Network. So Toms had a good game,
(01:06:51):
I mean, twenty to seventeen, three touchdowns, but all of
a sudden he throws a pick six and the Buccaneers
are only leading twenty seven team at the half against Atlanta. Yeah. Look,
you know this sounds like patting myself on the back,
but there's something about this season that just leads me
to believe Atlanta is gonna make a late run. And
(01:07:12):
I you know, call it, you know, late season scheduling
luck or whatever, you know. Coming off a huge win
for Tampa Bay going into Atlanta, who's been playing relatively
well this this season in spurts and hasn't been consistent
at all. They've been beating a lot of lousy teams,
but you just sort of feel like they're gonna get
one where you scratch your head and say, how this
(01:07:33):
felt like the week? The Falcons, at least at halftime,
are looking good here, only trailing three points at home.
I believe Tom Brady has never lost a game to Atlanta.
That would not surprise me, including a Super Bowl. Uh
comeback by the way for Atlanta in this game. You
talk about a guy that's really had a breakout season
although he's been on the scene for a while. Multiple
(01:07:55):
time Pro Bowler is a return guy called Darrel Patterson.
Six carry sixty six yards. I don't know when I
have a guy averaging eleven yards and carry. And by
the way, Mike Davis three carries twenty nine yards and
a touchdown. Um Matt Raylandy has a hundred sixteen yards
passing in this game. But Cordero Patterson's one of those guys.
He's been, like I said, a Pro Bowl return guy,
(01:08:16):
but he's done a heck of a job as a
running back this year for Atlanta. Yeah, he certainly has. Uh,
it's it's amazing what can happen when you allow an
athlete to explore a new positions. Sometimes you find something
you didn't expect in Cordell Parrott Patterson, who has been
used as a receiver return man throughout most of his career,
getting it done in the run game for the Falcons
(01:08:36):
as of late. And I I gotta tell you, you know,
one of the things that Cincinnati and and and Los
Angeles the Chargers have having common both with second year
quarterbacks who are excellent quarterbacks, and Burrow and Herbert, they
just have a hard time protecting these quarterbacks. And so
you're you saw it with Herbert, or excuse me, with
Burrow earlier in this game with the pinky injury. But
(01:08:58):
these quarterbacks both are just be savaged upfront by these
defensive lines. They need to get They need to reinvest.
I'm talking the Bengals, I'm talking to charges. They need
to reinvest in the line of scrimmage otherwise these are
gonna be short career. All right, Joe Burrow just made
a throw there that just didn't make any sense. They
have no time outs, and now what Okay, so they're
(01:09:21):
they're trying to get into field goal position, but it
didn't happen. They ran out of time. So instead of
throwing the ball away or spiking the ball to least
give him a chance for a hail mary, he threw
the ball in the middle of the field, tackle was made,
and that's the end of the half. So a mistake
there by Joe Burrow costing the Bengals an opportunity to
(01:09:41):
maybe at the very least get a long field goal
attempt or a hail mary attempt. Didn't happen. So we're
now at the half and the Chargers are leading the
Bengal And this is again when we get back to
these two young quarterbacks that have all this immense talent
and figured both these guys are gonna be starts for
a year to come. In the NFL, you still see
the youth sometimes like you're trying to make something happen
(01:10:03):
when you need to be paying attention to the clock
or the game position, and you're forcing a few things
out there. We sort of saw that on both sides
at the end of the half. But the Bengals right
now at halftime trailing the Chargers bias score of twenty
four to thirteen. Just updating the stats, justin Herbert seventeen
and twenty three two two yards, three touchdowns. He did
(01:10:24):
throw that interception late, and they half Joe Burrow twelve
of seventeen hundred forty two yards a touchdown, and a
picked Joe Mixon, who's been one of the hottest running
backs in this league, going against the worst run defense
in the NFL, has just ten carries for eighteen yards
in the first half against the Chargers. That's got to change.
(01:10:45):
If the Bengals are gonna come back in the second half,
especially with an injured quarterback. Now Burrow went out there
and he braved whatever pain he's going through. And look
for anybody who doesn't know this, you know, NFL players,
college players, especially at the FBS level, you know, the
game is more important than any one injury if it
can be played through. So there's going to be a
(01:11:06):
lot of conversation on on the training room table as
far as what they could do to Joe Burrows throwing
hand to help ease the pain and keep him in
the game. So you're you're gonna see numbing shots going
into that right hand knuckle. It's it's going to be
it's going to be. Uh, it's going to be one
(01:11:27):
of those doctor visits instead of a normal intermission for
Joe Burrow. We'll see how he can play with that
in the second half. And as far as Joe mixing,
they need to find a way to slow down this
Chargers front seven because they're stuffing the run. They're getting
an awful lot of pressure on Joe Burrow. That is
the that is the solution to all their problems in
this game. A game where they trail by a bunch
(01:11:50):
at home, I've always asked you, as a former NFL player, Uh,
what are the what when you have extreme weather? There's
five things extreme Either you have extreme heat, extreme cold,
extreme rain, extreme wind, extreme snow. And you've always said
the easiest of those would be snow. But in Chicago today,
how about extreme wind and extreme rain? Cold? That is
(01:12:13):
a trifect. It's a sub thirty degree day. Yeah, it
is a trifect, and not cold enough to snow, but boy,
that rain is coming down. Uh. And the halftime stats
Arizona leading this game twenty one to seven. Kyler Murray
has only thrown eight passes, understandably so, but he's made
the most of it five of eight, seventy three yards,
two touchdowns, no picks. He's also scored a rushing touchdown.
(01:12:35):
He has nineteen yards rushing in this game. Andy Dalton,
don't ask, uh, nine of fourteen only fifty eight yards,
no touchdowns, two picks. Uh. And the Bears are losing
this game at the half by score of seventeen. Really
the story, uh, of first half performances around the NFL
is Gardner Minshew, who found out he was going to
(01:12:55):
be starting today for an injured jail and Hurts Eagles
leading the Jets by his score at the half. Minshew
is fourteen of fifteen, eight yards, two touchdowns and no picks. Meanwhile,
on the other side, Zack Wilson has played well. He
is twelve of fourteen only a hundred eight yards, but
he also has two touchdowns and no picks. Uh so
(01:13:17):
a little higher scoring. I think a lot of people
thought this game was gonna be as the Eagles are
leading into Jets by a score of that's the Minshew
magic baby. Sometimes you just need a little firecracker off
the bench. By the way, he showed up wearing aviators
and the bomber jacket in this visit, I mean, I
can't get enough of this guy. It's just unbelievable. Well,
(01:13:38):
he's gonna have a long career in this league because
he is a guy who when he comes into the game,
he may not be a starting quarterback, but he's a
guy that can come in the game and make things happen.
And he's doing it today for the Eagles. Is this
the day the Lions finally win a game? They are
leading the Vikings twenty to six at halftime, and Jared
Goff has had a huge first half. He has thirteen
(01:14:00):
of seventeen a hundred eighty five yards, two touchdowns, no picks.
That's a pass the ratio of over a hundred and fifty.
Can they hang on? Is this their finally day? Because
by the way, this is a huge game for the Vikings.
They come in at five and six. Lose this game
and the Vikings are gonna find themselves in deep trouble.
Kirk Cousins thirteen of nineteen, hundred thirty three yards, no touchdowns,
(01:14:23):
no picks. But you feel like this is it Lions
finally get their day. It feels like it, But we
know the Lions. They seem to find ways every game
to allow uh, the the the what is it the
jaws of of defeat snag victory from It's just it's
just been that kind of year. So I'm not gonna
call this one over until it's officially over. But to
(01:14:46):
Jared Goff's credit, Dan Campbell about a month back said
we need more out of the quarterback position, and he
was talking specifically about his new quarterback in Detroit, Jared Goff,
and he had been under performing for weeks and it
looks like he's trying to turn it around. And against
a good defense. You know, the Vikings. You could say
a lot about their offense, and Kirk Cousins and Justin
(01:15:06):
Jefferson and Dalla Dalvin Cook and and Adam Feeling, who
by the way, is out injured in this game. We'll
see if he returns in the second half. But this
defense is really loaded for bear and they're struggling to
stop the Detroit Lions today. One thing that is official
after what we've seen so far today, the Houston Texans
are as bad as advertised. They're losing to the Colts
(01:15:29):
fourteen nothing, but it's much worse than that. To Rod,
don't call me Tyrod. Taylor's three of ten for thirty
two yards in a pick. They have eight yards net
passing forty eight total yards, three first downs, time of
possession twe nine in favor of the Colts. The Texans
at two and nine coming in cam In is a
(01:15:51):
bad team. They look even worse today. Yeah, look that
there are certain years where you know what it is
and any or any coach, any member of the staff
in Houston know what it is. This just isn't gonna
be their year. They started the season with a backup
quarterback who got hurt, and so then their third string quarterback,
(01:16:12):
Davis Mills played a bunch Uh there bereft of a
lot of talent due to salary cap issues, and they
have a starting quarterback who is, um, well, let's face it.
I mean, he's got a lot more going on off
the field than he does on the field, but he
doesn't even want to be in Houston anymore. So it's, uh,
it's just one of those situations where everybody knew where
(01:16:33):
this season was heading, and it's heading exactly the direction
you assumed. By the way to Rod Taylor's passer rating,
we figured it out. So I mentioned earlier, hundred fifty
eight point three is perfect, and you had Jarich Goff
at one fifty point four. Trod Taylor's passer rating in
the first day a half point eight. That's a zero
(01:16:55):
point eight passer rating in the first half. What's odd
when you look at these two teams, they both have
you know, equal third down efficiency. Both have had seven
attempts and only converted three of them. But the Indianapolis
Colts they've got thirteen first downs to the Houston Texans three,
which means that they're moving the football in the early
(01:17:17):
downs and still extending their drives. It's look, nothing's going
right for Houston this season, and I don't think it's
gonna get better as we we enter the holiday season.
All Right, we are at halftime in these games early
games today around the NFL. Seven games in progress. You
got four more games they're gonna be kicking off in
(01:17:38):
a couple of hours, Washing at the Raiders, Jags at
the Rams, Ravens at the Steelers, forty Niners at the Seahawks.
We're gonna give you a sneak peak coming up right
here on Fox Sports Red Zone Radio. This is Fox
Red Zone Radio, and we've got the plays that you
may have missed. But while they Cox motions on the
(01:18:04):
left side, they get off the Taylor right up there,
cut touchdown in d Y. Jonathan Taylor put this second
rushing score of the ball game, and the Cults have
broken and open twenty to nothing. Now back live to
the studios of Fox Sports Radio. This is Fox Red
(01:18:24):
Zone Radio. All right. That was colds a radio network
calls demolishing the Texans twenty one and nuh nothing right now.
Ago in the third quarter of the game, we got
third quarters underway across the NFL. The Cardinals have added
a field goals, so they now lead the Bears by
(01:18:45):
the score of four to seven. All the other scores
as they were at the half. I want to ask
you about a team very quickly here before the top
of the hour, Rich, They're playing a little bit later
on this afternoon, and that is the Seattle Seahawks. They
are three and eight. Uh. What I've seen from Russell
Wilson since his comeback from his injury, he is unrecognizable
(01:19:08):
from the great quarterback that he has been throughout his career.
He got a seven year old coach, uh that seemingly
has no answers right now. In fact, he actually walked
out of a postgame press conference returned apologize, simply stating,
I've never been in this position. I don't know what
to say. What do you see in the future of
the Seattle Seahawks right now? Three and eight playing a
(01:19:30):
forty niner team that's on a roll right now, probably
a forty victory most likely today. Where are we going
next with Seattle? Well, I mean nowhere, good, nowhere fast.
They just signed thirty six year old Adrian Peterson off
their practice squad earlier this week, as a reinforcement for
their banged up backfield. And that has been the story
(01:19:51):
of the past couple of seasons for the Seattle Seahawks.
They can't find any health in their their offensive backfield
and whether that be their running backs are now their
quarterback this season, it's just been a tragedy of of
injury woes. And can you can you link that back
to the head coach? Well, no, not necessarily, but you
(01:20:12):
can say you can be critical of the offensive performances
when everybody is of relative health. You could be critical
of the way they've built this team. The offensive line
has been inferior compared to the rest of the league
for many years. UH. Protecting a franchise quarterback like Russell
Wilson in this defense since the legion of Boom Days
(01:20:32):
hasn't been a defense that scares anyone in this league.
And in order to win, Russell Wilson has to win
a shootout every week. So I I don't know how
much longer Pete Carroll is for this job. And I'm
very curious if if it really goes sideways down the
stretch of this season, does he announce his retirement. I
have to wonder, because he did get an extension. And
(01:20:54):
remember this team won twelve games last year. It didn't
seem to be any slowdown. We were sort of, you know,
caught off guard with Russell Wilson along with Aaron Rodgers,
you know, threatening if you don't make some changes or
you know, put me in the mix to make some
calls that I want out of here. Well now if
he wants out the market for Russell Wilson, which a
year ago this time would have been you know, three
(01:21:15):
or four first round picks, Now all of a sudden,
you're looking at the situation saying, I don't know, is
this just an aberration or is he losing something right now?
Because it has been an absolute mess in Seattle. Meanwhile,
we're keeping our eye on this Bengals Chargers game again.
This game seemingly was turned off the TV. It is over.
Chargers are up twenty four to nothing, but the Bengals
(01:21:37):
got a couple of late scores to end the first half.
Now they're on the move once again to open up
the second half. So Chargers leading the Bengals by a
score of twenty four to thirteen. And one thing we
mentioned the first half, Joe Mixon had just eighteen yards
rushing against the worst running defense where they're trying to
run the ball right now, I has picked up ten
yards to open up the second half. Joe Burrow now
(01:21:59):
thirteen of eighteen hunte yards a touchdown in a score.
So Bengals trying to come back in this game, trailing
the Chargers by a score of two to thirteen. I'm
act just to see Atlanta in the second half, but
they're still in this game against the Buccaneers. In fact,
right now, Atlanta has the ball down seventeen about eight
(01:22:20):
minutes ago in the third quarter, and they have just
picked up a first down and more they are in
Buccaneers territory. So can the Falcons beat Joe Brady. I've
Joe Brady who got fired today, Tom Brady who's still
very much active. Uh, he has never lost the game
to the Atlanta Falcons in his career. I like what
they're doing right now. I mean they're finding ways against
(01:22:40):
a really really stout rushing defense of this Tampa Bay
Buccaneers team to advance the football. All right, we have
lots going on. Second half's underway, seven games going on
right now. Keep it here on Fox Sports Red Zone Radio,

(01:23:03):
Search f s R to listen live. Alright, So rolling
along here Week thirteen, Sunday around the National Football League,
teams trying to staying contention, getting contention put themselves either
further ahead or further behind teams in contention. It is
a pivotal week around the National Football League. Big story
(01:23:25):
of the day, Joe Brady was fired his offensive coordinator
at the Carolina Panthers. As Ralph Irvin mentioned earlier, Rich
has got the interviewed for several head coaching jobs around
the NFL in this past off season, and now he's
just looking for work. Is it just has not been
working for the Panthers with Joe Brady's offensive coordinator. Uh.
(01:23:46):
There's also report out of Tampa right now that indeed
they may decide to cut ways with Antonio Brown, who
obviously is serving a three game suspension right now for again,
I guess, falsifying a vaccination card, which by the way,
happens to be a federal offense. Um to forget the
(01:24:09):
three game suspension by the NFL, he could be facing
criminal charges. Nothing on that, but it it does appear
now that the Buccaneers may decide, you know what, Antonio
was great, Well it lasted, but uh, we really don't
need you. I mean, you're a nice guy to have.
It's always nice to have an extra layer as far
as receivers are concerned. But uh, I think we can
(01:24:31):
survive without you. Yeah. Well again this was all for
show to a certain extent. I mean the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Well,
could they benefit from having Antonio Brown on their roster? Yeah, sure,
but they don't miss much without him. They have Gronk,
they have God when they have Evans, they have for Net. Uh,
they have Cameron Brady, they have a lot of weapons.
(01:24:51):
They have Tom Brady, but they got Scottie Miller. They
have Tom Brady. Tom Brady has made mediocre receivers look
like all pros throughout his career. This is this is
like saying, you know, the Los Angeles Lakers, can they
move on with their eleventh player on their bench? It's like, yeah, probably,
I think they're gonna be okay. You know. So it's
it is one of those stories that has a lot
(01:25:14):
of buzz and a lot of tension because Antonio Brown
is a big name still in the NFL, but he
isn't a big contributor in the NFL. So a slap
on the wrist goes to Aaron Rodgers, who had spoke, uh,
you know, and lied to the media earlier this season
and saying that he's been immunized, essentially answering a question,
(01:25:35):
are you vaccinated? Said yeah, uh, and he got a
slap on the wrist. He got a small fine, the
team was fined. But the NFL, when it comes to
a player like Antonio Brown, who isn't a main contributor,
isn't a huge draw, isn't a big attention getter anymore
for his play on the field, they're gonna hit him
with a three game suspension to spread the word that
(01:25:56):
we're taking these COVID protocols very seriously. Yeah, it's amazing
his penalty, all right. Uh, the Chargers Bengals got a
field goal to cut the Chargers lead to twenty four
to sixteen. So now it's a one score game. Inside
ten minutes ago in the third quarter, this was a
game that the Chargers led twenty four to nothing. Uh,
the Chargers just had an incomplete pass, but there appeared
(01:26:19):
to be a penalty against the Chargers on this place,
so we're gonna get an update right now. Offensive pass
interference on Keenan Allen. You know they're calling the push
off at the top of this dig route he was running.
So that walks the Chargers back to a first in
twenty from their own fifteen. And another flag on the field,
(01:26:40):
another penalty against the Chargers, most likely here illegal procedure,
So now they got first in twenty five. Everything was
going right for the Chargers in this game, and all
of a sudden, talk about the Big mo. You ever
had one of those games where it seemed like it's
your day, man, Like, Okay, we got this one all
wrapped up, and then all of a sudden, you lose
it and it ravels on you. Oh of course. Yeah.
(01:27:02):
It's it's almost impossible not to have that moments if
you play enough football throughout the course of your life,
because football is a game where you need eleven guys
on both side of the field, uh, executing all at
the same time, and it all takes is one player
out of position defensively, missing their block, offensively, uh dropping
(01:27:23):
a ball in a crucial third down moment whatever, and
it screws up the whole play. One guy that screws
up the whole place, so it can happen fast. And
it looks like it's unwinding a little bit for the
Chargers here in Cincinnati leading seen tin Let's trying to
get a w Today would be the Atlanta Falcons. Again,
they've never beaten Tom Brady in his history, and that's
(01:27:43):
a lot of years. And right now the Falcons are
trailing the Buccaneers twenty to seventeen. We're talking a little
bit about Leonard for Nette earlier in the show. Remember
when learning for Nette came out of high school. I mean,
this was a superstar and he goes to l s
U and he had some great seasons, had some injury,
he's there, but his career was seemingly going nowhere until
(01:28:04):
he joined the Buccaneers. And he has become a complete back.
Uh he is now to me a better player coming
out of the backfield receiving. The boy's got seven catches today,
forty eight yards in a touchdown. And it just goes
to show again how when you play with someone like
Tom Brady, first of all, you almost feel an obligation
(01:28:27):
to play your best when you're playing with the best.
And then again going back to his pedigree with the Patriots,
and we've talked about so many times, and that you
were part of the idea of recognizing talent and putting
players in a position to exploit what they do best
on the field has always been a trademark of the
(01:28:48):
of the of the Patriots, and Tom Brady brings that
mentality and he finds a way to put his guys
in a position to succeed. Let me describe it this way, Um,
did you ever I mean, and I've got this not
really for you, but for people listening. I'll describe it
this way. If you've ever had like a supervisor who
(01:29:11):
moved on to a different company, and then a new
supervisor was cutting their teeth out of position, and all
of a sudden, you gotta you have to pledge your
allegiance to this new member of management. But they don't
know where all the knocks and crannies are hidden, and
you can get away with a lot more, right, you know,
so maybe you can clock in later. Because he doesn't
understand the attendance system the same way the old supervisor did.
(01:29:34):
There's things that you could sort of get away with.
Tom Brady sees all of it, you know. So, yeah,
Bruce arians is the head coach. He's got to oversee
the defense, offensive, special teams. He's got a lot of
balls that he's got to keep in the air. Tom
Brady is the head coach of the offense. So Tom
Brady sees everything everyone's doing. If you're not getting the
job done as an offensive tackle, you don't have to
only answer to your offensive line coach. You gotta answer
(01:29:57):
to Tom Brady. If you're running back and you ran
your route sloppy, you don't just gotta talk to your
running backs coach. You gotta answer to Tom Brady. If
you're a wide receiver and you drop a game ceiling
touchdown pass in the end zone, yeah, your receiver coach
is gonna get on you, but you got answer to
Tom Brady. And so it's an extra set of eyes
on the job who's been there before and knows how
to do it. There is a There was a third
(01:30:18):
and seven for Tampa on the Atlanta thirty five yard line.
Tom Brady put a pass where you know he's asking
his receiver to make a tough catch and Mike Evans
just made a tough catch, so they now have a
first down to the seventeen yard line. I meanwhile, the
Chargers have suddenly turned the ball over. What happened here?
(01:30:38):
How did the bank I was looking at? The Chargers
had a first down, and all of a sudden, the
Bengals have the ball down to the twenty five yard
Lubbel recovered by the Bengals. It was a shotgun pass,
Joe or excuse me, Justin Herbert short pass up the middle.
Austin Ackler twice in this game. That's his third fumble
of the game when he recovered. But that's a third
(01:30:59):
fumble in this game for Eckler. Yep, it was fun.
It was recovered by Cincinnati at the Chargers thirty two.
That's where this drive gets underway for Burrow and the Bengals. Alright,
so now this goes twenty four to nothing Chargers. It's sixteen,
so theoretically it is a one score game. Third and
(01:31:20):
four right now for the Bengals. Developing since we got
a first down, first and ten for the Bengals, deep
into Chargers territory. Developing situation in this Buccaneers Atlanta Falcons game.
Chris Godwin is down to look like his left leg
got twisted up while he was being tackled, and so uh,
they go to injury time out there. But that could
(01:31:41):
be a huge blow to a Tampa Bay offense that's
been working well at least through the first three quarters
against Atlanta Falcons, but only lead by a slim margin
seventeen in Atlanta. Alright, so tough day for Austin Ekeler
has lost a couple of fumbles that have helped Cincinnati
get right back in this game. They are now at
(01:32:01):
the seventeen yard line of the Chargers first and ten
and Joe Mixon runs tim ars up the middle. Although
there's a flag on the defensive offsides, there was an
encroachment from one of the defensive linemen of the Chargers
jumped into the neutral zone as the ball was being snapped,
So free play for the Bengals. I think this penalty
will be declined and they'll take the yardage. Yeah, this
(01:32:24):
will set up like a second and one, which is
always an ideal situation for any offense out there. So
the Bengals are rolling. You don't see teams blow twenty
four point leads very often in the NFL. In fact,
the last game I ever worked for the Raiders, we
were down twenty four, not the in halftime against the
Denver Broncos and a Monday night game, came back to
win thirty to twenty seven, and our new coach, Mike
(01:32:46):
Shanahan ordered game balls for the entire organization. He was
so excited about it. I got mine in a box.
But now the Bengals they have a first and goal.
So that actually was a first uh down run by
Joe Mixon. He walks in the end zone. Just like that.
The Bengals are now a two point conversion a way
of tying up this game having trailed by a score
(01:33:07):
of twenty four to nothing. All Right, we're gonna continue
on as we're heading to fourth quarters around the National
Football League. Just keep it there on Fox Sports Red
Zone Radio. This is Fox Red Zone Radio, and we've
got the place that you may have missed Snapdalton Fires website.
(01:33:31):
He is Talk Jimmy Graham. Touchdown Bears, I one your toss,
go to one of the premier pass catching tight ends
in the red zone in NFL history. Jimmy Graham on
the board. Now back live to the studios of Fox
Sports Radio. This is Fox Red Zone Radio. That was
(01:33:57):
w BBM News Radio. I'm one of five point nine
FM Bears Radio network. So Bears trying to come back
trailing the Cardinals. Started the fourth quarter. There updating on
all the games around the NFL. Tampa Bay leading the
Falcons twenty seven to seventeen. Just got a touchdown past
Tom Brady, his fourth of the game, this time to Gronk.
(01:34:17):
So ten point lead for the Bucks over the Falcons
going into the fourth quarter. Suddenly that Lions fourteen point
half time lead is just five. Lions trying to get
their first win of the season. They lead the Vikings
twenty to fifteen, three and a half minutes to go
on the third quarter. Dolphins over the Giants ten to six.
It's been a snoozer. They're just started the fourth quarter.
(01:34:37):
Eagles still leading the Jets eighteen coming to the end
of the third quarter. In that game, it's been all
Colts blowing out the Texas to day twenty one nothing.
Ten and a half minutes to go on the fourth quarter,
and the game of the day has gotten very very interesting.
Twenty four two Chargers hanging on to a lead the
Bengals went for a two point conversion, actually got a
(01:34:58):
penalty against the Chargers, uh for too many men on
the field on the two point conversion put the ball
the one yard line. But Joe Mixing on a straight
run was stoned by that Chargers defense. And right now
justin Herbert is under siege by this Bengals defense. Yeah,
they're doing a nice job covering, Uh, these deep routes
(01:35:19):
that the Chargers are trying to go for some shots
down field, and the pressure is coming for Herbert on
a rollout pass there he was held up sacked on
a second and six play and the Chargers face third
and eighteen and it's getting loud in Cincinnati. It is
getting loud, and they are coming out of another sack. Yeah,
they are right now rolling it up and somehow the
(01:35:42):
Chargers are trying to stop the bleeding. What do you
got here, Sam, let me hear it. Burro catches the shotgun,
snap hands to mix In, fight through a hole and
runs it into the end zone. Touchdown Bengals. Alright, so
that's Bengals Radio network. That was the touchdown. Did not
get the two point conversion, But now the Bengals are
(01:36:03):
gonna get the ball back trailing this game two to
the Chargers, a game in which the Chargers led twenty
four to nothing. How about a little Tampa Bay highlight
snapped Brady has passed, caught ball, touchdown Tampa Bay. Rob
Gronkowski has got two today. He has had an unbelievable
(01:36:23):
season this year, by the way. That is ninety eight
Rock and the Buccaneers Radio network. So Tampa leading twenty
seven to seventeen. Gronk today two catches, thirty eight yards
and two touchdowns. And I'm this guy has had a
great comeback season. I mean last year was a comeback
season obviously after sitting out a year. But Gronk, even
(01:36:45):
though he's had some injury problems this year when he's played,
he's looked as good as ever. Yeah, Yeah, Look, Gronkowski
and Tom Brady, the chemistry is real. We're we're we've
seen it in the past, obviously a long time with
New England. But the way they're able to get Gronk
open via route schemes, and again, you know, going back
(01:37:06):
to what we talked about earlier, there are just so
many offensive options on the field at the same time,
you gotta yeah, you're facing an issue like can you
double anybody? You got God, when you got Evans, you
got Leonard four Nett out of the backfield, you got Gronk.
Who do you pay the most attention to and coverage?
So when Gronk is single covered, it's very difficult to
(01:37:28):
stop him, and he often is because there's so many
other weapons on the field. At the same time, a
couple of field goals. The Cults have added a field goal,
now twenty four to nothing, their lead over the Texans.
By the way, today Jonathan Taylor twenty eight carries a
hundred twenty five yards and two touchdowns. Right now, he
is the hottest running back in the league. Lions have
(01:37:48):
added a field goal so now twenty three to fifteen,
as they lead the Vikings inside two minutes to go
on the third quarter. Again, the Lions, looking for their
first win of the Sea said, we mentioned we got
games are gonna be kicking off in less than an hour. Uh,
the Rams and the Jaguars. This is another team, the
Rams that have become discombobulated. They went over in the
(01:38:12):
month of November. They did not win. They have not
won a game since Halloween. And how about this, not
only they lost three straight games. There was also a
bye weekend there. Matthew Stafford has thrown picks sixes in
three straight games. Yeah. Look, Matthew Stafford is suffering the
same ills that I think other quarterbacks have suffered in
(01:38:33):
the very recent past. I think Dak Prescott and the
Dallas Cowboys. What's wrong with with the Dallas Cowboys? Until
they finally got right on Thanksgiving? It was their run game,
or excuse me not on Thanksgiving their last game. It's
their run game. You know they really If you don't
support a Dak Prescott or if you don't support Matthew
Stafford with a great run game, these two quarterbacks will struggle.
(01:38:56):
We've seen in the past and we're seeing it this
season as well. One thinging that is a through line
every loss the Ramps have had this season is the
rushing offense has been suppressed and more of the pressure
is on Matthew Stafford and he struggled to keep the
team afloat on his own Alright, The Bengals now have
the ball trailing twenty two again. They were down twenty
(01:39:17):
four to nothing in the first half of this game
against the Chargers. Now trying to mount the Uh come
back to take the lead, and we've got a complete
a pass for a first down to Jamaar Chase. So
they are on the move already nearing midfield as the Chargers,
as I mentioned earlier, just trying to stop the bleeding
right now and start slowing down UH this Bengals attack,
(01:39:39):
you know, And something that we haven't really brushed or
we glossed over, is the fact that Zach Taylor and
Brandon Staley, both the head coaches of the Bengals and
the Chargers respectively, are off that Sean McVeigh coaching tree.
So there's definitely a little bit of added pressure here
for the head coaches in these squads to get the
job done. If Staley loses this game, I mean, he's
(01:40:00):
done so in embarrassing fashion to one of his contemporaries,
somebody who I'm sure he would have loved to come
home on the flight with his team victorious, blowing out
the Bengals, which is what it looked like he was
heading toward in the first quarter. And the Bengals since
then have really taken control and will take control of
(01:40:21):
their playoff opportunity in the wild Card, putting the Chargers
in jeopardy to be leapfrog by the Raiders the Broncos,
both in the same division. Uh yeah, I mean you've
got teams nipping up your heels in that seventh playoff seed. Yeah.
One of the things the Bengals are gonna try to
do now that they've gotten it down to a two
point game is trying to take advantage of their running
(01:40:43):
game that's been so effective in recent weeks. I mean,
Joe Mixon has been almost three in our yards rushing
over the last couple of weeks. He's had double digit
touchdowns the last several weeks, only had eighteen yards rushing
in the first half, thirty yards rushing and still not
doing what they I'm sure expected to do going into
this game running the ball against the worst rush defense
(01:41:03):
for the Chargers. That's one positive today for the Chargers
is the fact that their run defense, at least to
this point, has held up. Right now, the Bengals have
a third and seven at their own forty six yard
line trying to continue to move and the Chargers on
the blitz have sacked burros So and he got hit.
He got hit hard, and it was Derwin James on
(01:41:27):
a safety Blitz. I believe got the Borrow first. I mean,
what what an unbelievable acquisition in the draft a few
years back that they were able to get him. And
it looks like on that play was that p Rhyan Yeah,
I believe it was p Ryan grabbing his knee. Yeah,
who went down hard. He got kind of undercut by
(01:41:47):
one of the other Chargers players and he's being helped
off the field. So get the little spin in the
backfield for the Bengals. Yeah. Absolutely. It was interesting watching
Derwin James Uh, instead of really blasting Burrow, He's start
a dove for the football. If you saw he was
sort of he was trying to do the strip. Very
smart play in the process was able to bring him down.
So fourth down four the Bengals and they're gonna have
(01:42:10):
to punt the ball away inside two minutes ago now
in the third quarter. Huge game for both these teams,
Bengals coming in at seven and four and the Chargers
the current seventh seed in the a f C at
six and five. Just updating the stats here, justin Herbert
sixty six yards, three touchdowns and most pick no one pick.
(01:42:32):
Most of that damage in the first half. Joe Burrow
eighteen and twenty six two oh nine, a touchdown and
pick let's hear from the Dolphins actually fake toa rowing
to his left role fire, So there are to who
kept his feet inbounds. Isaiah Ford his second touch down
of the year, just his eighth reception A and five
(01:42:53):
sixty the Joe w q A m Dolphins Radio networks.
So with eleven minutes the on the fourth quarter of
the Miami Dolphins leading the Giants by a score of
seventeen to six. Weird stats. Honestly, for two he's twenty
eight out of thirties for two eleven yards. That's barely
seven yards of reception. More importantly though, two touchdowns, no interceptions,
(01:43:15):
and again Miami trying to win their fifth straight game. Yeah, Miami, look,
they've they've done well against the teams they should be
We've been talking about this, uh or I shouldn't even
say that, because earlier this season they went on this
rash of losses and some of those teams, you know,
those close losses and and in certain cases you could
say really Miami outclassed them and got unlucky. But recently
(01:43:38):
they've been able to rattle off wins against teams beatable teams. Uh,
and so they're doing the job they're supposed to be
doing the Giants. This should be a win for for
the Dolphins, especially if they think they have their franchise
quarterback into a tongue of Valoa, who against inferior defenses
really does shine and appears the same as happening today. Oh,
we talked about this Dolphins team before the season. They
(01:44:00):
won ten games, missed out on the playoffs. But you
know we we said if two can develop at the
quarterbacks about they got everything else. Whether defense was rattled
earlier this season, they were giving up some big points,
but the last four games, all Dolphins victories, they've given
up nine, ten, seventeen ten, and they've only given up
six today. So that Dolphins defense getting the job done again.
(01:44:21):
Looking for their fifth straight win. And when you look
ahead to their schedule, they will host the Jets next week,
then they take on a floundering Saints team on the road,
Then they're at the Titans, another team banged up before
they finished the season at home against the Patriots. So
(01:44:41):
when you start one in seven and you lose seven
games in a row, you think your seasons over. But
I'm telling you they might be able to sneak in. Yeah. Look,
this is what this is what we've been talking about.
Nobody's really out of it. With the exception of maybe
five or six teams this season, you have the majority
(01:45:04):
of them NFL still vying for playoff positioning and it's
a lot of fun. I don't know if it's because
they added the team to the postseason last year, the
seven instead of the six on each conference side. I
don't know if it's because of the eighteenth week of
the regular season, but this is going to be a
photo finished from the majority of the teams in the NFL. Alright,
(01:45:25):
three and out for the Chargers. They just planted the
ball right back to the Bengals are gonna take over
near midfield. Let's find out what's trending right now. Once
again the man that will break it all down, Ralpher.
You know, you're watching this game and it's like, how
can the Chargers blow this? And you forget that they Yeah,
they wanted that Monday night game against the Raiders, but
(01:45:47):
they had a dominant lead in that game and blew that.
So this is becoming a trend for this team and
the Bengals starting again very close to midfield at their
own three yard line, UH down two points, l A
with the lead thirty seconds to play in the third quarter.
Meanwhile eating a half to play in the fourth quarter.
(01:46:09):
Indianapolis rolling over Houston twenty four nothing ten thirty nine
to go in the fourth, Tampa Bay the seventeen lead
over Atlanta a second touchdown to Rob Gronkowski in that one.
The Bears do score, but Arizona still is fourteen leader
for Chicago eleven and a half to play in the
fourth quarter there to a Tonga Voloa's second touchdown pass
(01:46:29):
Miami the seventeen six lead over the Giants ten eleven
in that game. Philadelphia just doing damage today uh the
Eagles with a thirty to eight team lead now at
the New York Jets. How's Gardner Minshew doing not too
bad ninety one yards, two touchdowns, no interceptions as he
(01:46:50):
sits in for Jalen Hurds and Detroit holding on to
that lead over Minnesota thirteen to play in the fourth
quarter and break news and not big news, but it
relates to you both. The Holiday Bowl will be u
C l A versus North Carolina State in San Diego,
so I know that which is gonna be on the
(01:47:12):
callum exactly, That's right, yep. I'll be on the call
for the Frisco Bowl between the San Diego State Aztecs
and the Roadrunners of Texas San Antonio. And I'll be
on the call the very next week, on the same
day Tuesday, as u c l A takes on and
see State, and as rumors swirl about Mario Christo Ball
at Oregon, It's gonna be Oregon Oklahoma in the uh
(01:47:35):
Alamo Bowl, So you might have two interim coaches in that.
By the way, staying with you, Ralph, here you mentioned
there's a twist though on this crist of Ball move
to Miami because they still have a coach. Yes, And
in fact, Mario Cristo Ball is recruiting in southern California
for Oregon today. Manny Diaz is recruiting in South Florida
(01:47:56):
fort Miami today. And yet there's talking that Mario Christo
Ball take over from Anny Diaz, who has not yet
been fired, in part because there is not an athletic
director at Miami. And as I understand it, their board
of trustees has so many people on it they can't
agree on anything. It's a mess. Yes, I ask you
one more follow up question of this. If Christy Ball
(01:48:16):
does go and take the Miami job, leaving a vacancy
at Oregon, could you see any possibility of Chip Kelly
leaving u c l A to return to Oregon. Reports
from the Pacific Northwest say he is the only candidate
that Oregon is thinking about right now. Wow wow wow wow. Alright,
(01:48:38):
So a lot of the a lot of moving coaches.
I mean, this has been the big story well the
last several weeks, and you've just added another name to
the fire in Joe Brady, who was just released from
his duties with the Carolina Panthers. All right, another question
for you, Ralph, coming from Iowa, Sam Ralph, So all
the bull pairings are out now they are, They are
(01:48:58):
rolling out as we speak. Have you seen where my
freshly trounced Iowa Hawkeyes will end up? I have seen
that they're going into a place that you know called
heartbreaks and Heartbreaks city. No, we don't have it. No,
I don't have the Iowa game yet. And I was like,
where do you expect to go? Where are you going? Alam?
(01:49:18):
Citrus Bowl? Is the Citrus Ball predominant idea that you
think that after forty two to three, Yeah, I mean,
you know, ten and ten three teams, it's a lot
of ten and three team Yeah, you know, not not
allowed if losses. That Michigan has been butting the beating
on everybody. So i was just next in line. It
looks like they could be going to the Citrus Bowl, alright,
(01:49:41):
Critrius Bowl in Orlando. By the way, in the final
college football playoff rankings, Iowa finished fifteen is where they finished.
By the way, San Diego State, despite their thirteen lost,
actually remained in the top twenty five. They dropped a
number twenty four. There you go, there, you go there,
(01:50:01):
and you guys are playing the road Runners. The road
Runners a good team. They won twelve games and twelve
and one. It's gonna be a lot of fun to
see a game. Uh an often explosive offense like them
against one of the nation's top defense. And then, of course,
Chip Kelly and taken on NC State in the wolf Pack. Okay, okay,
down at Peco Park in San Diego. All right, we
(01:50:22):
got a couple of things going on right now. The
Vikings scored to cut the lead of the Lions to
twenty one. They went for a two point conversion stuff,
they got stuffed by the Lions. So the Lions hanging on,
leading by a score of twenty three to twenty one. Meanwhile,
the Bengals have a second and two right now. They
(01:50:43):
are into Chargers territory at the thirty four yard line
and a football by Joe mix It is picked up
by the Chargers and it's gonna be running back for
a touchdown WOWA leavable rank for the Chargers. So Mixing,
who really has been in effective this game so far,
(01:51:05):
in a I don't know, rejuvenated we'll call it rush
defense for the Chargers, gets held up in the backfield
and really just drops it. He just dropped it. Whoa,
And it's picked up about that Chargers and it's run
back for a touchdown. So the Chargers on the ropes
had a two point lead already, the Bengals in a
field goal position and Mixing coughs it up and it's
(01:51:28):
a walk in touchdown for the Chargers. So they lead
thirty to twenty two, uh, penning the extra point. Uh.
And suddenly if they just kick it, and of course
that's a big if with every punt and they're actually
gonna go for a two point conversion, and they got
an illegal procedure on the Chargers. Wow, when you guy
got a man emotion before the ball snap, that's bad sign.
(01:51:50):
You can only have one motion man. Yeah, yeah, yeah,
So illegal procedure is gonna back him up on this too. Now,
what do you do. You're gonna kick a thirty eight
yard now, not with the point conversion, not not with
their kicker. Now, you're gonna go for it. By the way,
if they don't get the conversion, it's still a one
score game. Chargers leading this game by a score of
(01:52:11):
thirty twenty two. Lots of time left. We're just inside
fourteen minutes to go. Uh in the fourth quarter. And wow,
Brandon Staley is losing his mind. Look at him. He
is just hot right now. He's losing his mind screaming
at someone on the field. You'd assume it's the tight end,
and it is, in fact the field goal unit who
(01:52:32):
comes on the team to kick the extra point here,
but from distance this is gonna be spotted at the
twenty eight yard line of thirty eight yard Yeah, the
thirty eight yard extra point attempt here by the Chargers
have already had a missed extra point in this game.
The kick is up and the kick is good. Alright,
so thirty one two now to score game as the Chargers,
(01:52:56):
after that fumble by Joe Mixon, uh taken back control
of this game in Cincinnati. Well crazy stuff again ever, No,
I mean, just when you think all right, it's over,
like the Bengals are gonna take this game, be nine
second and two straight handoff for mixing, you know, trying
to get a first down, and he just dropped the
(01:53:17):
ball and the Chargers take full advantage there. All right.
A couple of games that are coming up here shortly,
Ravens and the Steelers. Rich the Steelers, well, we thought
this earlier this year that they were teetering. By the way,
reports out of Pittsburgh is that Ben Roethlisberger has pretty
much decided this is it. He's gonna retire at the
(01:53:39):
end of the season. But on the other side, he
got the Ravens. You look at their eight and three
record like, okay, looks good. I'm sorry, they just haven't
looked right. Well. It starts with Lamar Jackson, who is
a video game to watch, and I'm not sure if
that's a great thing or not. He's uh, he's obscenely talented.
He's the fastest player on the field. Every single opponent
(01:54:01):
they face, he does some i mean just crazy athletic things,
and so he gives them a chance no matter what.
But there's inconsistencies with his play. There's inconsistencies with the
defensive effort that we've seen over the course of this season.
This offense in general has really had to rely on
a patch work crew at running back to get through
(01:54:22):
the beginning of this season. Well, look at this. I mean,
first of all, you mentioned Lamar Jackson's inconsistencies. Fifteen touchdowns
twelve picks. Yeah, that's not a good ratio. And DeVante
Freeman and let Tavia's Murray combined have less rushing yards
and Lamar Jackson. Yeah, so I mean you're totally reliant
(01:54:42):
on Jackson to do everything and when injury and otherwise
and and he but again same with Jalen Hurts. Like
when you look at the quarterbacks who are tasked to
carry two torches for their offense, uh, you know, both
the football effectively and passing the football effectively. Something's got
(01:55:04):
to give eventually, And if they're having an off day,
your run game and you're passing game struggles, you know,
like we're talking about the Bengals. All right, so Joe
Mixon's having a slow game, Well, Joe Burrows not, you know.
So he's carrying the torch for the offense. But when
you have the torch bearer, uh for both sides of
your offensive strategy, in the run game and the past game,
(01:55:24):
one off day, just not feeling it. Maybe he didn't
get a great night's sleep, maybe going through something off
the field, maybe just facing a defense who's got his
number that day. It's very difficult to get things going.
And so there's a lot on Lamar Jackson's plate. All right,
let's hear the Vikings getting back in this game against
the Lions. Cousins. Shotgun takes the snap, fires to the
center of the inside cut touchdown j Jay Osborne with
(01:55:50):
the TD Cousins under center, I formation behind him, handoff
Madison and he stood up at the line of scrimmage
and he's not gonna get in. Yeah, k Fam Minneapolis.
Some the Vikings radio now are a little surprised by
that very weak uh two point conversion attempt going nowhere.
So the Lions still leading, looking for their first win
of the season, twenty one over the Vikings. Lions have
(01:56:13):
the ball right now and they are in Vikings territory.
So let's see if the Lions can hang on and
get the victory ten minutes ago in the fourth quarter.
All right, we're coming down the stretch around the National
Football League. Seven games in action, four on deck. Keep
it right here. This is Fox Sports Red Zone Radio.
(01:56:35):
This is Fox Red Zone Radio, and we've got the
place that you may have missed. So now they go
Jumbo mix and bounces right all on the ground, scooped up,
scooped up by t Campbell. Forty ten touchdown, shutters, sixty
(01:56:56):
yard fumble return for Tuvan Campbell. Now back live to
the studios of Fox Sports Radio. This is Fox Red
Zone Radio. That was k y s R seven Chargers
Radio network. So just when it looked like the Chargers
(01:57:17):
are about to collapse from an early twenty four nothing lead,
Bengals are down to have the ball in Chargers territory.
Joe Mix and fumbles Chargers running back for a touchdown.
Now the Chargers are knocking on the goal line. They
got a first and goal at the Cincinnati one, Chargers
leading two, about to make it more with eleven and
(01:57:39):
a half minutes to go in the fourth quarter, which
means the only couple of games that we got right
now that are one score games, we do have this
Dolphins Giants game that has been unwatchable. Uh three, one
to go. Miami has the ball and they have a
seventeen to nine lead. The game I'm looking for, guys,
(01:58:02):
is that Lions Vikings game? Like, give me that? Where
is that game? All right? We're coming in right now.
Ryan is coming in, our fearless producer. He's gonna give
us that Lions Vikings game. The Vikings have the ball
we got eight and a half minutes ago, and the
Lions looking for their first win of the season, leading
this game by a score of twenty three to twenty one. Meanwhile,
(01:58:23):
the Cardinals have had today snapped to Murray keeps it again,
runs right, he's at the five, and he walks into
the end zone four his second rushing touchdown, and the
Cardinals just put the Bears away. They lead thirty three
to fourteen with six three to gom Arizona Sports Station.
Murray eleven and fiftd twenty three yards two touchdowns, no picks.
(01:58:45):
He's run from fifty nine yards and two touchdowns, so
two touchdown passes, two touchdowns running. Andy Dalton has thrown
four interceptions today for the Bears, and the clock is
ticking on my Matt Naggi's uh time as the Bears coach.
I'm getting that sense right now? Is there time for
the Falcons to mount a comeback? Can the Falcons reverse
(01:59:07):
the curse against Tom Brady who leads with his Buccaneers Atlanta? Okay,
Buccaneers have the ball at ten point lead there at
Atlanta's twenty three yard Line's three minutes to go in
the game, and he called the time out there worried.
I've already checked this one off. By the way, Tom Brady, Uh,
(01:59:30):
where's his m v P votes? How about thirty eight
of fifty one, three sixty eight yards, four touchdowns and
a pick. Yeah, it sort of feels like he should
win the m v P and nobody wants to admit
it yet I know that. I mean, you keep trying
to run around him, and I'm like, I mean, they're
talking about Aaron Rodgers, Tom Brady. I believe Lea's the
(01:59:51):
league in touchdown passes and by the way, Chris god
went to a fifteen receptions in this game, hundred forty
three yards. Gronc has a couple of touchdowns as well.
All right, let's get that Charger highlight going takes the
hand off, blowers the shoulder touch down Chargers Austin Ekeler
for his eighth rushing touchdown of the season k Y
(02:00:15):
s r N seven Chargers Radio Networks. So that makes
up for a couple of fumbles earlier by Eckler, and
the Chargers now are in firm control, leading thirty eight
to twenty two, still ten minutes ago. Technically it's only
a two score games, sixteen points. But the Bengals are
gonna have to get something going real quick if they
want to come back and win this game against the Chargers.
(02:00:37):
And by the way, if the Chargers do win this game,
that gets them to seven and five, and that would
tie the Bengals, by the way, because the Bengals would
drop to seven and five. We look at that a
f C West. You know, we come into this week
where all four teams have a winning record, which I
don't know if that's ever been a situation like that
(02:00:57):
for any division going into a week third team, we
got the Broncos. I couldn't believe that line. Broncos are
nine and a half point dogs at Kansas City. Yeah,
Chie should be favorite at home, but I don't know
a divisional game like that. Sunday Night football tonight seems
like a big line. I'm expecting a pretty competitive game tonight.
(02:01:18):
I would assume it's gonna be competitive. I mean, the
Broncos are are playing, especially depending on what happens in
the Cincinnati Bengals game, which the Chargers have regained control
of as of late. But depending on how this finishes,
I mean, it has enormous playoff implications for the Broncos,
who are still a bubble team, a dark horse to
(02:01:38):
earn one of the seeds in the NFC. All Right,
the Bengals are now at midfield, so they're trying to
get back in this incomplete pass, but they're gonna have
to score pretty quickly and again down sixteen. Uh, let
me ask you this, if they were to get a
score here in the next minute or so, right, let's say,
over eight minutes to go, do you absolutely go for
two or do you go for one? Thinking? All right,
(02:02:02):
still a two points to score game, touchdown field goal
eventually could win it. I'm I'm a bird in the
hand guy when it comes to playing offensive football and
that sort of strategy if you like. There are a
lot of coaches who like, if they're trailing by eleven points,
you know what I mean, Like they'll score and they'll
kick back to your point and just sort of count on,
you know, getting down to the No, you you go
(02:02:23):
for the two point conversion. Now, you know what I mean,
if you're trailing by by sixteen points, you can't like
stave it off. You need to score. You need to score,
and you need to score the two point conversion so
you know exactly what's ahead of you later on in
the game. Oh no, So the Lions got the ball
back with about four minutes ago having held against the Vikings.
(02:02:46):
Was it a pick or was it a fumble? I'm
watching right now, Detroit trying to get their first win
of the season. Let's check this out. Jared Goff has
had a pretty good game today and Jared gov let's
run the play for thank you very much. Jared Goff
is rolling right and he is going to get stripped
of the ball and it's recovered by the Vikings. It's
(02:03:08):
a beautiful defensive effort by defensive back who was coming
in to cover Kirk Cousin from behind him. He didn't
say down and then was able to get his hand
on Cousin's arm and the Vikings are inside the twenty
yard line of the Lions. Wild Cousins. But yeah, the Lions.
I mean, look, if he lose this game. They were
(02:03:29):
up twenty six at half time. It's just one of
those seasons. And we talked about it earlier, Steve, it's
you mean one of those seasons. How about the for
the last sixty years? New head coach so to Dan
Campbell's first year on the job, but it's for him
specifically for this Detroit Lions team. They just can't get
it right, all right. Bengals now trying to get into
(02:03:50):
the end zone. Uh, they are incomplete passing the end zone.
But they have a second and goal right now, so
they've moved down the field. We're just talking about this
eight and a half minutes to go still uh in
this for fourth quarter? All right? We have much more
coming up. Don't go anywhere, keep it right here. This
is Fox Sports Red Zone Radio. Fox Sports Radio has
(02:04:10):
the best sports talk lineup in the nation. Catch all
of our shows at Fox Sports Radio dot com and
within the I Heart Radio app search f s R
to listen live. Ellinger pitches left side. This is Jackson
and he goes into the end. Jackson, but this first
career rushing touchdown. Welcome to the NFL. T On checkson
(02:04:32):
POLS thirty and the Texans nothing with a minute fifty
six to go in the fourth quarter. All right, So
that was Colts Radio Network final score. By the way,
in that game, Colt's defeat the Houston Texans thirty one
and nothing. Jonathan Taylor thirty two carries hundred forty three
yards and two scores. Carson Wentz didn't have to do
a whole lot through for a hundred fifty eight yards
(02:04:53):
and one score. Houston's total offense in this game just
a hundred forty one yards and time of his session
forty two minutes for Indie, eighteen for Houston. So the
Texans are a bad team and they look a lot worse.
But a nice win for Indianapolis as they get to
seven and six and keep themselves alive very much so
uh in the playoff chase. Right now, So the Colts
(02:05:16):
winning that game by score a thirty one nothing. Meanwhile,
the Vikings have taken the lead over the Lions twenty
seven and twenty three a touchdown pass by Kirk Cousins.
They went for two, did not get it. So the
Lions now have the ball a minute fifty to go
down four. They need a touchdown? Rich can they get
(02:05:36):
it done for their first win of the season. Yeah?
And by the way, how about the day that Kirk
Cousins is having thirty of forty passing three hundred forty
yards through the air, two touchdown, zero interceptions, and Justin
Jefferson leading the charge for him eleven receptions one eight
two with that touchdown pass he just caught from Kirk
(02:05:57):
Cousins taking the lead in this matchup over the Lions.
Nothing has gone right for the Lions in the second half.
I mean it has been like every week, just a
comedy of errors for them. Interceptions thrown by Jared Goff, fumbles, Um,
that was a fumble by uh no, no it was
Jared Goff again. Remember it was the strip sack that
(02:06:18):
led to this scoring drive for the Vikings. So well,
they got a first down right now, so they're trying
to get things going. There's a minute twenty two and
the clock is running. First down there at their own
thirty six yard line, and they spiked the ball. The Lions,
do they have any time outs left? What do we have? Ryan?
Do you know the time outs? So no timeouts? A
(02:06:39):
minute eighteen so all they can do is spiked the
ball to try to stop the clock. By the way,
I haven't seen many games like this Chargers Bengals game
you talk about. There were like three different games. There
was the beginning of the game when the Chargers are
up twenty four nothing. Then the Bengals rattled off twenty
two unanswered, had all the women in driving down the field,
Joe Mixon fumbles the ball, run back for a touchdown,
(02:07:01):
Chargers at a score, and then Joe Burrow throws an
interception in the end zone. So the Charger is gonna
win this game. They're up thirty two. But really it
was almost like three distinct games in the same game. Well,
can the Bengals score fast? The answer is yes. We
saw that in the first quarter when they got to
get the ball seven minutes left in this game, trailing
(02:07:21):
by sixteen. Is it possible we could see the Bengals
come back and tie this game. Yeah, anything's possible. And
with the way their offense was playing in the first
in the first quarter, I should say, uh, it's possible today.
But like you said, yeah, this, uh, this first in
one situation. Here's a interesting here. So the Chargers have
a fourth and one at their own forty four yard line.
(02:07:43):
I don't know why they're challenging this. He is out
of bounds when he's reaching across. It was short of
a first down. And they're gonna challenge this. They're trying
to say that cook, they're tight end. He's already out
of bounces reaching across. No he's not. No, he's not
any possession of the ball. That's a good challenge, that's
a good They got the first down on they got
the first down. But he's still even when he was
(02:08:06):
reaching out that he were inbounds. It's it's where it's
not where your feet are. It's it's it's where the
ball is when you're down by contact. He wasn't down,
his feet were in bounds. He stretched for the first down. Marker,
Well got the first down. Well, we'll find out because
earlier in this game, the Chargers were charged with a
(02:08:26):
fumble that looked like it wasn't a fumble, and it
was challenged and the fumble was upheld. That was a
big play that really led to the Bengals coming back
in this game. So I don't know what these officials
are looking at right now. From game to game. By
the way, we have a final score. Tampa Bay has
defeated the Falcons thirty to seventeen. Tom Brady three sixty
(02:08:46):
eight yards passing four touchdowns in this game. So the
Buccaneers moved to nine and three. Uh, even with the
challenge right now, again, there's inside seven minutes ago, and
Brandon Staley has been very animated in this game. It's
been a very emotional game, and that's what I was
talking about. Him and Zach Taylor came off of that
same coaching tree with with Sean McVeigh, and they absolutely
(02:09:10):
both want to win this game because it not only
has those tie ins, but also it's for potential playoffs
eating in the n f C. Alright, Lions, right now,
I have a first down there at the thirty three
yard line, but again they have no timeouts. Passes complete
to the twenty four yard line. We're inside forty seconds.
I don't know what st Brown's doing laying on the ground.
(02:09:30):
Seconds are just rattling off right now. Golf is going
to snap the ball and throw it and they're blitzing.
He throws to the end zone and it is almost
intercept in the end zone. So third and one for
the Lions right now, twenty two seconds remaining, trailing by four,
looking for their first win of the season. Meanwhile, we're
(02:09:51):
watching the Rams and the Jaguars kicking off right now.
The Rams open up with a huge kickoff to start
the game deep in Jacksonville Territory in the on the
opening play of this game, and you have an animated
Ram sideline. Not a lot to celebrate with the Rams lately,
but here hosting the Jaguars at least off to a
(02:10:12):
good start, all right, So again some of the final
scores we mentioned Buccaneers defeating Falcons thirties seventeen Dolphins, by
the way, when their fifth straight game. They defeated the
Giants today by a score of twenty to nine. And
they challenge is there's a long talk here and we
can't actually hear what they're saying. They're going into a
(02:10:35):
lengthy conversation. Right, this is the longest this's this officially
is it is an endless dissertation. Okay, So the punt
team's going on the field. So they ruled that he
was short of the first down, so they did not
reverse the call. And the Chargers, smartly, by the way,
with seven minutes to go in a sixteen point lead,
(02:10:56):
will kick to the Bengals. So the Bengals, as he's
met and they still have a shot. All right. Here
we go with the Lions. Right now, third and six
for Detroit. They are at the twenty nine yard line
of the Vikings and they have no timeouts. Pass over
the middle is good for a first down. They got
to get down and run to the ball. Sixteen fifteen.
The clock is taking right now. They try to line up.
(02:11:18):
They spiked the ball twelve seconds to go first down
at the nineteen yard Give me some strategy right now?
What are you what are you doing here? All right?
So again, you got anything over the middle of the
field right now, the clock will probably spire. That's well,
that's not true. Seconds. You can throw over the middle
of the field if it's towards the end zone. But
(02:11:40):
if you don't get in the end zone. No, no, no,
in the end zone. You're you're aiming for the end zones.
Every pass has to be in the end zone right now. No,
you can throw shot pass. You have time for two
plays here, so the first downd doesn't matter. First, where
the Vikings are gonna play wide? Take away the sideline pass.
But they make a sideline s throw that only gets
three yards. No that what are you talking about? That
(02:12:02):
was a nine yard reception on that pass. Yeah, but
you've only got seven seconds left. Now you're at the
leven yard line. What the hell are you Wait a second,
I'm trying to think about getting in the end zone.
Why are you're throwing sideline passes with seven second cut
the distance by half? Well, what's the difference swing? And
let me ask you a question. Is it easier to
(02:12:23):
complete a twenty yard pass? Or I don't know, I
mean giving yourself more. I know you sound like you
don't know. All right, we got third and two right now.
By the way, good third and two like that matters
with eight seconds? On what planet are you on right now?
I'm on a planet to see if the Lions actually
throw the ball in the end zone to try to
win the game him? Are you? Are you trying to
(02:12:47):
drive down the field or actually win the game? At
some point, don't you have to throw the ball in
the end zone? At what point do you think go
throw us the ball in the end zone. This is
why you're not a coach in the NFL. So right now,
Dan Campbell's not much of a coach because he hasn't
won a game. Well, you and Dan Campbell can arm Russell.
So as long as he continues to work his way
down the field, I'm thinking, how about taking a shot
(02:13:09):
in the end zone to actually win the game. I
know you've got a lot of You've got a lot
of wins under your belt, coach, and he's got a
better record. He's well, that doesn't count against them. So
ere we are at the eleven yard Lion. We got
eight seconds ago, the Lions trying to figure out a
way to actually get the ball in the end zone,
(02:13:30):
and Golf now goes back to Bess. He throws that
to the end zone to nobody down now, so this
is it, So you have to do. What do you do? Do?
You go for the first down here? Now you kick
the field goal obviously right trailing by for Stephen your playbook,
that's what I would. Well, it's now fourth and two,
(02:13:51):
so you only have chance for one more play here
with four seconds left. What's your call? Give me a call?
My call. I'm gonna I'm gonna run crossing routes at
the goal line as seen routes at the goal line.
I'm gonna throw it over the middle of the field.
I wasn't sure what that last play was. I'm I'm
losing my coverage on this game, all right, set the
bottom here. Here we go fourth until we have multiple
TV's going up. I am trying to get Dan Campbell
(02:14:15):
a win, is what I'm trying to do right now.
You're trying trying to Jared Goff has never won a game,
and which Sean McVeigh was not his coach, You know that, right.
He's had eighteen starts, he's oh seventeen and one games win.
His coach is not Sean McVeigh. Alright, So Golf is
trying to come up with a play. Let's watch this
(02:14:35):
last play here. He had an open receiver. He just
never looked at him. He didn't see him. Well, he
had the running back coming out of hero into triple coverage.
DeAndre Swift was waiting at the goal line for a
past and Mike Zimmer is mad at his defense for
not covering the back leaking out of the back. All right,
this is it. It's fourth down, so this is one
(02:14:57):
more shot for the Lions win this game. GoF throws
to the end zone and it is complete. It's complete.
The Lions have scarred and the Lions are going to win.
The game is zero zero zero, it's over. How about that?
How about that the Lions win just as it? Credit
(02:15:20):
for this, Steve, I am gonna take When the team
is in the red zone late, right and they've got
over ten seconds left on the clock, you're saying every
pass has to go otherwise they can't win. Right, Well,
let me tell you I'm gonna take credit for this
one Lions win. There's no extra point. Listen, guys, I
want to from my co host from NFL rule. They
(02:15:46):
still need to try the extra point and the Lions
could screw it up where Minnesota returns it for two.
That's right, it's a two point game, so they still
need to at least take a knee. So it's they're
flashing final that you're they have to it's not an over.
You have to play extra point? All right. So we're
watching right now whether or not they're gonna violate NFL rules,
(02:16:09):
they can actually attend. Can you imagine if they don't
and then this game goes final. But then the by
the way, if you're the Lions game, if you're the Lions,
why wouldn't you go for a two and just take
a knee? Right? Why would you kick an extra point
if you could? Just clearly they don't have to because
all the players are leaving the fields. So this is
(02:16:30):
a violation. Is this a major find against the Lions organization? Well,
officials be fired after this game for not allowing the
extra point. Well, so it has happened, folks, that Dan
campbell era can officially begin and Detroit a seven victory
over the Minnesota Vikings at home in front of their

Red Zone Radio. Wow w x y t F M
(02:18:25):
ven won the Ticket Lions Radio network. The drought is over.
The Vikings fall to the Mighty Lions of Detroit. Jared
Goff wins his first game ever without Sean McVeigh. Can
we hear the Vikings called the same plight? Do we
have that? All right? Let's hear the Vikings side of
(02:18:46):
that winning touch up for the Lions. Jared Goff. Three
receivers left, one right. He goes out of the shotgun.
He takes the snap from Evin Brown. He's gonna fire
to the end zone. It's caught. Touchdown. Detroit Lions and
these hardy x Aties have beaten the Minnesota Vikings and
one a game for the first time in three hundred
(02:19:07):
sixty four days. The game winning touchdown was caught by
Amen ra St Brown and for that young man, his
first National Football League touchdown is a memorable one. It
beat the Minnesota Vikings twenty nine seven k FAM Innneapolis
(02:19:28):
and the Vikings radio network. So God finished the game
two nine six yards, three touchdowns and a pick, and
Alliance improved to one ten and one. Is this the
beginning of something good? Because I I'll tell you why
when you looked at the remainder of their schedule, if
they hadn't won this game, there at the Broncos, Cardinals
(02:19:49):
at home, at Atlanta, at Seattle, and they close up
with the Packers at home. So did you gusally got
one win before this weekend? There is about eight things
that need to happen this week and about eight things
per week from that moment moving forward, including the Detroit Lions,
winning out the rest of the way for the Lions
(02:20:11):
to still be in the playoffs. They are still as
of as of yesterday, they were still not mathematically eliminated.
Well again you had. The Washington football team entered the
day as a seven seed, the last playoff spot, with
the record of five and six. That's right, all right,
So final scores in from today, cold speed the Texans
thirty one nothing, Eagles over the Jets thirty three to eighteen,
(02:20:35):
Dolphins beat the Giants twenty to nine, Cardinals over the
Bears thirty three to twenty two. Buccaneers held off the
Falcons thirty to seventeen. And it's just over right now.
The Chargers beat the Bengals forty one to twenty two,
and then of course the Lions, as you just heard,
defeating the Vikings twenty seven. So all the earlier games
(02:20:58):
are in the books. Two games are under way right now.
The Rams are leading the Jaguars tend to nothing. That
didn't take long. The jags Occurs stagger into this game
with a record of two and nine under their rookie
coach Urban Meyer, and the Washington football team has taken
an early seven nothing lead on the road against the Raiders.
(02:21:19):
Taylor Heineke five for five forty eight yards and a
touchdown pass to start this game to Logan Thomas, and
this is a Washington football team that we talked about
this before the season. Both of us really thought they
had a good shot to win the NFC East this
year because of their defense. And then the first part
of the season their defense looked awful. But now all
(02:21:41):
of a sudden, they're on a roll and that defense
is now beginning to look like the defense we thought
they would be at the start of the season. Yeah,
you know, and and it takes time sometimes, right, You know,
every season is different. People always make the assumption because
you have similar players, not the same, but similar players
on your raw surf from year to year, you're going
(02:22:01):
to have similar success, and that just isn't true. You
add new pieces every year. Every year brings new challenges,
a new schedule, playing against different offenses, or if you're
an offense, preparing for different defenses. So the one Washington
football team had things to work out, and it feels
like they're working them out just in time. And as
we speak, they just racked off a nice long run
(02:22:23):
Gibson scampered for about twenty yards getting out of the
shadow of their own gold posts and and getting out
to the twenty six yard line and have a new
set of downs, all right. So while Washington comes into
the day with the seventh slot in the NFC despite
their five and six record, the Raiders at six and
five were sitting on the eight seed. Uh And with
(02:22:44):
the Chargers winning today, that will keep them ahead of
the Raiders as far as the tiebreak is concerned, because
the Chargers beat the Raiders head to head. So the
Raiders really need this game if they want to continue
to keep their playoff hopes alive at home where they
have not been great this year, just three and three
at home. So we got these two games going on
right now, and then coming up here right in a
(02:23:06):
few minutes, we're gonna have the kickoff of two more games.
Pittsburgh Steelers at home against the Ravens. Steelers definitely a
team on life support right now. You know, Mike Tomlins
never had a losing season. He's had a couple of
five hundred seasons, but he's never had a losing season
as the head coach of the Steelers. They are teetering
at five five and one as their home against the
(02:23:29):
Ravens game just kicked off. Ravens come in at eight
and three. You see any chance for the Steelers today? Uh?
Do I see a chance for him? Yeah? Yeah? I
mean because again, you got to play these games, and
Lamar Jackson is careless with the football at times, and
and even in games where he's playing well and he
doesn't need to force things, it's in his d n A.
He's a risk taker with the football and he wants
(02:23:49):
to make things happen, and he puts a lot of
pressure on his shoulders to make things happen. So yeah, yeah,
with a guy who can be a loose candid at
times at quarterback, I think the Steelers have an opportunity
to win this game. I think this game will come
down to the turnover battle. If the Steelers can steal
some possessions, they could potentially get a win at home
(02:24:10):
against the Baltimore Ravens. Let's hear the Rams getting on
the board from the fox stafford from under center opens up.
Give Michelle over the left side, driving the pile looking
for the goal line. He's got its touchdown, Sonny Michelle
touch down. L A, two possessions, two scorers for l A. Yeah,
Rams Radio Network, so ten nothing Rams. Meanwhile, here was
(02:24:31):
the Washington football team score. Heide Ki play acts at
Gibson throws, he has a wide opening Logan Thomas touchdown,
touchdown Washington w t e m the team Washington leads
seven nothing over the Vegas Raiders four minutes ago in
the first quarter. There also coming up, we got the
(02:24:54):
forty Niners and the Seahawks. We're talking earlier about a
Seahawks team that is completely bottomed out. Meanwhile, the forty Niners,
they started too and oh lost four in a row.
Now they won four the last five. Jimmy Garoppolo has
been putting up some pretty impressive numbers recently for the
forty Niners. Is this a dark horse in the NFC
right now? They are firmly in a playoff position at
(02:25:16):
six and five. Yeah, about a month ago, I was
talking about this, this uh San Francisco forty Niners team.
After that victory over the Rams, that was a real win.
That defense woke up in a big way, and then
dominated looked at the schedule following that Rams game, going
to the Jaguars, which you felt good about hosting the Vikings,
which was a close game but a victory, and then
(02:25:38):
heading on the road to the San Francisco excuse me,
to the Seahawks. Then you felt good about their opportunity
to start racking off some wins. And that's exactly what
they've done. And think about the rest of their schedule
after that, they're at the Bengals, who've got to be
reeling after this game. Today home against the Falcons should
be a win. At the Titans, we don't know what
kind of Tennessee team that's gonna be at that point,
(02:25:59):
all against the woeful Texans, and then you finish off
at the Rams, knowing that Kyle Shanahan has never lost
a game to Sean McVeigh. That could be for the
NFC West title. Over the last four games, Jimmy Garoppolo,
to your point, is throwing seven touchdowns and only two interceptions.
Even in the loss of Arizona Cardinals that was a
two touchdown one interception game. Forty for three twenty six,
(02:26:21):
he completed seventy of his passes. So Jimmy Garoppolo has
not been a problem in fact, and this is true
with the San Francisco forty nine is win healthy. Garoppolo
is not just good. He he sort of is on
that borderline of great at times, like he can win
you games when your run game is suppressed in some ways.
(02:26:42):
As long as he's protected, as long as he's healthy,
and Jimmy ge is healthy. Right now, all right, Uh,
we are keeping our eye in these games. Right now.
We got a Sunday night game between the Chiefs and Broncos.
Also gonna get to that incredible Monday night matchup. Rare
that the Monday night game is the game of the week,
but this week it is with a Hatriots on the
road against the Bills. But first, let's find out what's
(02:27:02):
trending right now once again? Here is whoa is? What
a day? Huh? Or? And we still have five more
games in the NFL Sunday, four of them on the
field right now. Washington with that seven nothing lead early
over the Las Vegas Raiders Taylor Heineke the touchdown past
(02:27:23):
to Logan Thomas. Meanwhile, the Rams of the Sony Michelle
touchdown run have a ten nothing lead over Jacksonville sixty
six to play in the first quarter of that contest. Uh,
they just got underway. San Francisco and Seattle and an
injury already in this game, um has slowed the game.
(02:27:43):
So I mean, fourteen fifty six to play in the
first quarter and already uh zero zero score. We had
an ambulance on the field, so that had to be
the opening kickoff, right right, I mean it's it's the
game has just gotten underway, so uh an unusual situation
there for sure. Best wishes going out to Seattle, Baltimore,
(02:28:05):
Pittsburgh their scoreless even forty five to play in the
first quarter. Of course, the big story coming out of
the early slay games, first victory of the year on
the line, Golf's got it back, looks Gross and touch downs.
They dated Iman Ross, Brown, Livers, David Oh, the Rye,
(02:28:25):
the field. They've done it. That's w x y T
FM ninety seven one the ticket Lines radio network. They
do beat Minnesota seven. Big win for Tampa Bay thirty seventeen.
In Atlanta, the Chargers finish off Cincinnati for Arizona, now
tending two on the season. They went in Chicago thirty
(02:28:46):
three twenty two. Indianapolis has won three of their last four.
They shout out Houston thirty one nothing in a quick
note from the NBA twenty four seconds to play in
the first half, Utah a fifty seven fifty three lead
in Cleveland. Donovan Mitchell already fifteen points in that contest
as we sent it back. It is Red Zone Radio
(02:29:06):
on Fox Sports NFL Sunday, Steve Hartman and Rich Alright,
we're trying to get some kind of what happened here
on the opening kick of a forty Niner player. So
it's Trenton Cannon who is down on the field the
forty Niners, uh Official Twitter has tweeted out prayers up
(02:29:27):
for number twenty five Trenton Cannon, who is being taken
off the field in an ambulance. Uh So a developing
injury situation. Uh in Seattle during this forty nine or
Seahawks game. Something you never want to see is a
stretcher come out on the field. Uh. And and it's
(02:29:47):
it's even worse than that, because they even backed an
ambulance onto the playing field. So a disturbing scene if
you're a football fan. Uh. Certainly for the players on
the field watching this all uh go down? Yeah, this
is unfortunate. Apparently on the opening kickoff, Trent and Cannon
(02:30:08):
took a knee to the helmet and um, again, we
don't have any information beyond that other than the fact
that when you see an ambulance on the field, Uh,
that is a very very scary sight to to open
up this game between the forty Niners UH and the Seahawks.
So as soon as we can get more information. But
(02:30:30):
the injured player is definitely Trent and Cannon of the
forty Niners. He has been loaded onto the ambulance and
he is now going to be taken off. They're now
showing pictures. He was his arm was moving. That's a
good sign. Yeah, he was speaking, his hands were where
he was able to move his left arm and Uh.
(02:30:53):
But again, like whenever it comes to UH, an injury
to the head or neck area, and as Steve mentioned,
it was a knee a leg of an opposing player
that hit him in the helmet. Uh. You know, they
take excessive caution. So hopefully this is just one of
those situations where you know it was a momentary lapse
and he regains full function. But as we know, it's
(02:31:15):
a violent game and anything can happen. Well, I mean
it shakes up boat teams, I mean, Andy and every
player on that field right now is shaken by anything
that happens to And I watched, I watched a career
end in front of me. I mean, I as a
college football player. Was a practice. It was a really
innocuous When we went back and watched the film, Uh
(02:31:37):
hit to the head one of our defensive lineman took
and same kind of deal. Like, we moved up the
practice play about ten yards while the training staff was
helping this defensive tackle and then they had to bring
an ambulance on the field. And by the grace of God,
this player was able to regain full function. He wasn't paralyzed,
(02:31:57):
but he was in the moment and I'll never get
I mean, they put him on the stretcher. He hadn't
moved a limb from the point of the injury until
they moved him off the field. And all I remember
seeing is just tears streaming down the side of his
face as they load him on that ambulance. It was
the last snap of football you ever played. You But
but again, you know that matters so little when you're
(02:32:17):
talking about a situation like that. All you hope for
is that they can live a full life and have
full function, and he did regain all of his function,
and so we wish the best to Trent and Cannon
his family watching at home. A scary moment for sure
for anybody who who enjoys watching this game or is
close to this young man. Yeah, and and and honestly,
(02:32:38):
it amazes me we think about the thousands and thousands
of football games that are played at every single level,
uh that there aren't more serious injuries. I mean, it
is a violence sport, very dangerous sport out there, that
is for sure. So our thoughts are with him. Um,
I want to get to this game tomorrow. As I mentioned,
you know, back in the old days, Money Night football
(02:32:58):
was a feature game game. But too many times we
get to Monday Night and we get a bunch of
afterthought games, you know, games that really don't have much going.
By the way, the Seahawks are heading into the end zone.
Touchdown Seattle. Now, was that a defensive player a punt return?
Because it was a fourth and six and that was unbelievable?
(02:33:20):
Was that a fake? What the heck just happened? I
have no idea. All of a sudden I looked up
in Seattle's running for a touchdown. It was a fake.
It was a fake punt. It was a fake punt,
and the up guy there was nobody there. Wow, that
worked a perfection and he was untouched all the way
into the end zone. Seattle surprising the forty Niners, Homer
(02:33:43):
because they got you. They got it. Well, you talked
about a Seahawks team we talked about earlier. They just
needed something to give them a spark and they decided
to go for a fake punt early in the game
and the forty Niners were completely blindsided. That was the
longest rush play for the Seattle Seahawks this season, and
it opens up the scoring in this matchup. Seattle leads
(02:34:06):
six nothing, ensuing extra point coming up in just moments
and the kick is up and the kick is good.
So seven nothing lead at home over the forty Niners
to get this one going. Also, guys Lamar Jackson picked
off in the end zone by the steel What I
tell you that is one. That is the one X
factor when it's a Baltimore team taking the field against anybody. Well,
(02:34:28):
it's also a division game. These are bitter rivals, So
rivalry games you never know, even in the NFL. Uh.
Speaking of rivalry games, you got the Patriots and the
Bills coming up tomorrow night, Rich, And you know before
the season, the Bills, obviously we're overwhelming favorites to win
the a f C East. Most people thought their main
(02:34:48):
contender would be the Dolphins this year. Dolphins, by the way,
when they're fifth straight, but they're still way back. I
don't think anybody has thought the Patriots are gonna be there,
especially when they started the season two and four. Now
they're eighting four, they've won six in a row, and
they're not just winning, they're winning impressively week after week
after week. As they go into this game against Buffalo,
(02:35:10):
what are we gonna see tomorrow night, Well, it comes
down to what Mac Jones can get done against a
really commanding Bills defense. Now it's been an up and
down season for the Bills defensively, but when they show up,
I mean, they're arguably one of the best defenses or
defensive units in this league. And so look, if if
I'm going to strategize against the Patriots and how to
(02:35:32):
win against the Patriots, I'm going to attack the middle
of the pocket against the pocket pass. Here. Look, he
wants to get the ball out really quickly, he wants
to get the ball out to shallow routes. So I'm
going to play my coverage is close to the line
of scrimmage, and I Am going to blitz the middle
and try to get pressure up the middle all day long.
That is your best chance of beating the Patriots. Talking
(02:35:55):
about your defense going against their offense. Now offensively, going
against New England. You gotta win on the ground, and
the Patriots are gonna try to snuff out your run game,
and if they can effectively do that, they will win
because if you have to pass it on them, they
get turnovers an alarming rate. They by the way, the
Patriots gave up over two yards rushing last week. Still
(02:36:15):
got the win well there, but but it's because the
takeaways turnovers. The the you lose the turnover battle, you
lose to the Patriots. And that's what the Titans did.
They were lying on their passing game to certain extent
down the stretch of that game, and Tannehill kept making
mistakes plus fourth down conversions they failed twice, giving the
Patriots offense second chance opportunities. You got to get the
(02:36:37):
game on the ground. You gotta keep it out of
the air against this defense, who is now tied for
second in the NFL with takeaways. Matt Jones has completed
over seventy percent of his passes as a rookie. That
obviously would be an NFL rookie record, but even more
impressive as they head into Buffalo tomorrow night, he hasn't
(02:36:57):
lost the road game. He's five and oh to start
his NFL career on the road. I don't care who
you're playing on the road, and I know all this
road success of NFL teams this year, but when you're
five and oh to start your NFL career as a
starting quarterback on the road, it talks about the maturity.
It talks about the coolness factor with mac Jones, that
(02:37:18):
he can stay focused on the field, execute what it
is they're asking with the execute offensively. And that's why
this team is sitting at eight and four with a
chance to really make some noise if they can get
a win tomorrow on the road against the Bills. All right,
on the other side, we're just gonna wrap things up
for us, keep you updated everything going on around the NFL.
This is Fox Sports Red Zone Radio. This is Fox
(02:37:45):
Red Zone Radio, and we got the place that you
May admits, you're gonna fake. The fake is coming near side.
Corny Rick Felids Savis Harmer, Corny Kid's gonna go thirty
her fluck touchdown, Seahawks seventy three yards, pull out all
(02:38:09):
the stops on the first drive in the game. Now
back live to the studios of Fox Sports Radio. This
is Fox Red Zone Radio. Wow, that was a play.
That was Seahawks Radio network. However, the forty Niners have
answered back. So forty Niners and Seahawks seven all ten
(02:38:32):
and a half minutes ago in the first quarter of
that game. Washington Lean the Raiders seven nothing. We're fourteen
minutes to go in the first half. Also fourteen minutes
to go in the first half, Rams over the Jags
ten nothing, no score. Ravens and Steelers five minutes ago
in the first quarter. One. I always think our crew today, Iowa, Sam, uh,
(02:38:53):
have you found out your where your guys are? Is
it all set? Citrus Boiler playing Kentucky. Can't Kentucky. Kentucky
actually not a bad Kentucky team, not at all. They're
I mean, they're not quite at the top of the
SEC yet. But Mark Stoops has been building a program
there for the last you know hour, many years by
seven years. Alright, so your Hawkeyes are going to be
there more like than not. Guys today, but you know
(02:39:15):
it's okay, it's okay. You know you you predicted they
had no chance. Well, no, I said that I take
Iowa with the points. I didn't say I was gonna
although yesterday I worked with Arnie Spannier. Yesterday he predicted
in Iowa victory Michigan. This is like they haven't had
a year like this since ninety seven. This is their
year to go prove something. I'm excited for him. I'll
(02:39:35):
tell you what that semi final game between Michigan and Georgia.
If Georgia can shake off whatever happened to them against Alabama,
that's gonna be a good match. I want to thank
Ralph Irvin of course today. Tremendous job, Ralph keeping us
update on everything, not just in the NFL, whatever is
going on. It's always up to date on just about
every subject in the world. And then there's Ryan who
(02:39:55):
of course, tireless Eport never graduated college. Was was left
on the streets by his parents and five years old
and lived in the streets and just eight out of
dumpsters for years, like so many others who have comes
through the doors here at Fox Sports Radio, that's where
we find Yeah. But but we found him, and we
(02:40:17):
uh were willing to give people another chance, a lot
of second chances. And then we and we told him
you know what, Yeah, you may smell like rotten bananappeals,
but we like the cut of your jim son. You
guys don't eat out of dumpsters either. Just freakld on, listen,
I've done like I will tell a quick story. I
one time made a full bowl of spaghettia meatballs that
(02:40:38):
was poured into the into the garbage can, just to
prove a point about leftovers. Good. Well, I mean it
was it was still fresh. I mean it was only
in the fridge for three days and I found it
on the top of a garbage game. I'm like, what
are we doing to say over here? I was talking
about our our kitchen is under construction, right, that's right.
(02:41:00):
So I only have three eating options, either something that's
coming out of a microwave, a toaster, oven, or a
croc bot. But maybe I should include a trash cat.
Yeah yeah, well, well for lunch today, if I can
find something out the trash. If you need to prove
a point to a significant other who thinks three days
the maximum on leftovers, No, no, no, you got much
(02:41:22):
longer than Yeah, I give it. I give it five
to seven days. And actually, you know when you talk
about extended leftovers, you know Iowa Sam is really an
expert on this. I mean, he can milk it for
a while. You don't. You don't throw it like leftovers
in my family are a big deal. Yeah, those are
meals for days, days, days upon days. We've watched. When
do you deem it a perishable item? At what point?
(02:41:43):
Maybe he's got mold's not smelling fresh anymore. I love mold. Well,
it isn't mold like a really good fiber. Uh, it
can be a good I mean that's where we got antibiotics. Well,
and that's where I run. I'ms back in the conversation.
It's got the gut biome of a vulture. Yeah, this
(02:42:04):
man is a scavenger by trade. Al Right, wheals have
officially come off, And I credit myself by the way,
Penn State taken on Arkansas on the Outback Bowl. Yeah,
my alma mater. So are you are we all set?
With all the ball games pretty much U C l A.
(02:42:26):
Your school is going to face off against NC State, Yes,
in the Holiday Bowl tool north Ridge north But who's
playing in the Rose Bowl? They are not playing, Uh
Notre Dame in Oklahoma State will be in the Fiesta Bowl.
Ohio State taken on Utah in the Rose Bowl. What
(02:42:47):
is the name of the mascot at north Ridge The Matadors?
You know, Matadors. I'm terrible at team name. For years.
Bobby Braswell, longtime basketball coach in north Ridge, he used
to have him on TV be with us. Got they
got a guess who Utah gets in the Rose Bowl?
State they get know How State who did not win
the division, and then pit the champions of the SEC.
(02:43:10):
They get Michigan State. Do you think Iowa blogged in
the Rose Bowl? Well, I mean, listen Ober Ohio State,
I don't think. I think No how State. Utah will
will be a good game. Yeah. So the Peach Bowl
will have Michigan State taken on Pittsburgh, the a c
C champion, So we'll have that and then Baylor we'll
(02:43:32):
take on Old Miss in the Sugar Bowl. By the way,
did you see Lane Kiffin. It's gonna be making close
to eight million dollars a year for the job he's
done down there at Old miss Well. It makes sense.
Plus it sounds like Arch Manning maybe on the horizon
for the number one rated high school quarterback in the country.
(02:43:54):
Arch Manning, who happens to be the son of Cooper Cooper,
the the forgotten brother, who has actually become quite a
media celebrities. He forgot he's doing commercials with Eli. I mean,
he was the oldest, and then there was Peyton and
then obviously much younger Eli Minor League baseball. Well know,
he played. What happened was he went to the University
(02:44:16):
Mississippi as a wide receiver. He was a year ahead
of Payton, and then he had some kind of neck
thing or something, had an injury, and he was forced
to forego his football career. Yeah, it's like the Achilles heel.
It's the Manning neck him and Peyton. I mean, but no,
Coop's doing fine and now his uh son arch not Archie.
(02:44:40):
The Gateway to the West St. Louis alright, um, alright,
very busy week coming up this week around the NFL. Again,
the Money Night Game is gonna be tremendous. I will
have stories from my trip to Vegas. I'm really looking
forward to this College Football Hall of Fame dinner on Tuesday.
Tony robo b It's gonna be one of the honorees.
That's what happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas to some degree. Yeah,
(02:45:02):
I'm a little nervous. I gotta wear a black tie.
I got the whole it's a black tie one. The
next time. We don't want to a black tie event. Uh,
I've never been invited. I think that's probably for the best.
Let's be honest, all right, we'll keep it right here.
This is Fox Sports Red Zone Radio.
