(00:00):
Hey, it's Neil Savedra. You'relistening to kfi EM six forty the four
Purport on demand on the iHeartRadio app. Thanks for hanging out on this Mother's
Day weekend. Having a happy Mother'sDay to you all. Happy Mother's Day
to my mom Kay, looking forwardto seeing her tomorrow, making breakfast for
her and her brood. A goodchunk of us will be visiting there.
(00:25):
A happy Mother's Day to my motherin law Mary, who I saw briefly
this morning, and of course tomy wife Tracy, who is the best
mom in the world to me,and she's a pretty good mom to Max
two, because there's two kids inthis house. And I wish that was
(00:48):
a joke, but theree reality isI probably get more. Put that down,
don't touch that. You're making amess. Why are you holding that.
Don't light fires there? That isnot allowed in the house. No,
well, that is not a pet. That's a wild animal. That's
her talking to me. So Godbless that woman. We're lucky to have
her. Now, if you're amom and you're looking for, you know,
(01:12):
something to take the edge off.Walches has cocktails? What yep,
welches, My beloved Grape Beverage hassomething new, very exciting for adults this
summer. They're introducing a special lineof canned cocktails mixes their famous real fruit
(01:34):
juices with a bit of kick.Five point nine percent alcohol by volume to
be exact. So for those ofyou who go, well, what does
that mean? Five point nine,Well, round up to six. You
double that and you've got twelve what'syou might call it that? Twelve proof
(01:55):
is what it is. So that'show you do it. Whatever somebody says
alcohol by volume, you double thatand that is what the proof is.
So twelve proof alcohol in these drinksnot bad, not bad at all,
A refreshing summer drink that they're veryexcited about. It comes in four tasty
flavors, all inspired by Welch's wellknown fruit flavors. So there's the vodka
(02:19):
transfusion, which, by the way, if you're sick, don't do that.
Won't be good. Vodka cranberry, watermelon mule, and passion fruit mohito.
Wait a second, where's the Ithink you're going to get that grape
juice in there somewhere. So thevodka transfusion is a twist on the classic
(02:39):
country club cocktail, so it blendsWelch's concord grape juice. Now we're talking,
I'm listening with hints of ginger andcitrus. Well, that actually sounds
like a fantastic combination there. Thevodka Cranberry uses tanging cranberry juice as it's
base, and so that's going tobe kind of in the order of a
(03:00):
cosmo, is what. That's goingto be a nice combination there. For
the watermelon mule, they're gonna mixreal watermelon fruit juice with zesty lime and
ginger, so you're gonna get likea Moscow mule with that, leaning on
the watermelon flavor there. And thepassion fruit mochito, which combines mouth watering
(03:20):
passion fruit juice, gets that sweetand tangy mint and the lime flavor there.
So it's a good mix of thosethings. And don't worry, these
drinks are made with real spirits,so they're gonna be tasty and they're gonna
have just enough to be able toenjoy. As we move out of spring
into summer and the weather is startingto stabilize, I know, it was
(03:43):
a little weird for a while, seemed like it was raining every single weekend
that you're gonna want to be pullingthese out a nice little I'm looking kind
of forward to trying them. Thepre made cocktails are getting way better.
I was not a fan when theyfirst came out. I am becoming a
huge fan. One of the onesthat I am loving is Mission Cocktails,
(04:03):
by the way, and they sentme some samples recently. I mean samples.
They sent me whole bottles, butthey've been on I met them when
I was filling in for Gary oneday with Shannon Farren on The Gary and
Shannon Show, and they brought themin and I fell in love with their
product. So that's another one thatI'm a huge fan of. Check out
(04:28):
Mission Cocktails. Not only Mission isvery cool because some of the money goes
to charity, but I love thetwo guys, their friends. They came
up with us and the cocktails arefantastic. One of the few bottled pre
made old fashions that I think standsup with a artistically mixed right in front
(04:49):
of you cocktail along with their Cosmothe My Tie is fabulous. Manhattan is
great, very very very good,by the way. Anyways, I kind
of went on a side trail therebut check them out. What do the
cans look like? I'm wearing Somekids going to be like, oh,
so now back to Welch's cocktails.Yeah, you don't want them to look
(05:13):
No, I'm right with you thatyou don't want it to look like,
you know, high c or somethinglike that. So I have not seen.
They do come in twelve ounce cansthough, and they come in four
packs, but they're hinting that there'sgonna be these bigger packs on the way
sooner or later. So these newcocktails will be available in several states.
(05:34):
Keep an eye out at your localstores. You can also go check them
out at Welch'scraftcocktails dot com Welch'scraftcocktails dotCom to see where they're going to be
near you. So there, youknow, they have all these things,
Joe, when you do packaging tomake them look at you know, less
(05:57):
like you know, they have lawsfor alcohol like, but I don't think
they look kind of like can theylook like soda cans? It says vodka
transfusion. Oh we've got problems, sho. Yeah, are you gonna drink
them? No? You don't drinkalcohol. No, I I like to
(06:18):
keep it just straight you know.Yeah, it's that no offense to welches.
Please don't do me. But thatto me is like a hangover and
a can. Wow, strong words. I know. Yeah, I don't
like sugary. I just I justfeel I could feel the hangover. Oh
(06:39):
you aren't kidding. These look likesoda. They do. Wow, I'm
over open. No, that's notgood if you're drinking. I'm sure they're
wonderful. But their line is onthe on the website. Kids have their
(07:00):
crafts. You have yours, likethis is their craft crafted to So find
a store. Let's see where arethey. Let's see in California. Where
are we want to find a store? People, let us know where can
we find them? Molhito vodka, cran Wow. So they looks like they
do sell them in California. Ohokay, the full locators coming soon,
(07:28):
but it looks like they will behere in California. Wow. Well,
I'm very surprised if you're holding thatand covering the bottom the bottom half of
that that looks soda or juice.Oh boy, the laws for all that
stuff, well maybe those are justmock upstatful. I think you're being very
(07:55):
generous, Joe. I think we'regoing to see some issues. Well we'll
find out more. But they soundtasty. I'll be I'll be curious.
They the cocktails I was talking aboutfrom Mission Mission cocktails. They're pre mixed
in bottles and the packaging is stunning, So I think they come in a
set of three different flavors and ithas like this beautiful black box with gold
(08:18):
lettering on it, and the boxis magnetic and lifts up and it's got
these The foam is laser cut tofit the individual bottles, and the bottles
themselves are weighted and lovely and great. I can't say enough good things about
them. Nonprofits too, Yeah,it really is a neat. I'm you
(08:41):
know, trying to get them onthe show again, hopefully for before Father's
Day, because I really really believein what they're doing. But I'm very
impressed and blown away by their premade cocktails, the quality of the packaging,
the quality of the the you know, the guys behind it. You're
listening to The Four Report with NilSavedra on demand from KFI AM six forty.
(09:05):
I hope you are enjoying family andplanning to do so. Tomorrow.
I'm going to be making brunch formy mom and family and looking forward to
seeing everybody. It's been a while. Schedules don't always work out, I
suppose, so looking forward to itindeed, and hope you get to do
the same. All right, Arby'sToo, Arby's we Go. Arby's is
(09:30):
cooked up a special treat for Beyoncefans. I know it sounds weird,
inspired for her latest album, CowboyCarter, and to celebrate this the upcoming
They did this for the upcoming KentuckyKentucky Derby, which is now passed,
but they launched its fancy version ofits horsey sauce called shardon Nay and eig
(09:58):
H Shardonnay's Yeah, Chardonnay's Horsey Sauce. Why this sauce has a twist of
Chardonnay flavor that they say is perfectfor cowboys and city folks alike. Why
this name, Well, the nameof the sauce pays homage to Beyonce's album
cover, so she's featured there witha horse named Shardonnay. And eig H
(10:26):
So, senior vice president of thePark Word Entertainment, revealed the horse's name
on her Instagram story. So Arby'sjumped on it if you will, they
saddled up. They described the sauceas a sophisticated version of their classic Horsey
sauce, and that it's designed tocompliment, you know, a bunch of
(10:48):
different types of dishes. So whateveryou want to put it on, they're
Horsey sauce. Their normal Horsey saucethere at Arby's has always been a guest
favorite. And now they're, youknow, instead of messing with perfection,
they're taking it up a notch anddoing this and see. But you can
get your hands on the special sauce. It even comes to this beautiful bottle
(11:09):
by the way. But it's onlyavailable online for a limited time, of
course. So you've got to joinArby's Rewards. Have you noticed something,
you know, similarities in the storieswe've been talking about that their rewards cards,
their rewards apps, all these thingsare important. It's really the only
way you're getting any benefits these days. So you join the Arby's Rewards to
(11:33):
get early access to purchase and toreceive more details about when it will go
on sale and ship. So keepyour eyes and ears open for that.
You're listening to the Fork Report withNil Sevedra on demand from KFI AM six
forty. I'm going down on thisArby's kind of rabbit hole right now.
(12:01):
And I was looking through their saucesbecause they have all these different sauces,
and then I came across this list, the ultimate list of ARB's sauces at
I don't know if they have allthese, and I was trying to look
to see if they have which onesthey have all the time, if some
of these come and goh, sothere's the number one on this list is
(12:24):
Arby's sauce itself. Now, ifyou're not familiar with RB's sauce, it's
kind of this kind of a mixture. It's a red sauce, kind of
a mixture of between a ketchup anda barbecue sauce sort of. There's got
vinegar, tomatoes, that type ofthing, spices. That's number one.
The second one is Bronco berry sauce, and it's a popular sauce, sweet
(12:48):
and spicy and gives a little kickto the sandwiches buffalo dipping sauce. I
think we all know that what categorythat goes into the number three, The
buttermilk ranch dressing is now before Ithink We got that cheddar cheese sauce.
Put that on those sandwiches, Dijonhoney mustard. I think we get what
that is. They have a tazekisauce or what they refer to as their
(13:16):
eio or guio or gyro, whateveryou want to pronounce it. Sauce,
honey mustard dipping sauce. Got inthat Horsey sauce, which is a little
bit about what we talked about. That Horsey sauce is like it's you know,
going on roast beef. So whenyou think of roast beef, it's
got horse reddish in, it's gotvinegar, it's got some spices, a
(13:39):
little bit of heat, a littlebit of flavor there in that. The
Kentucky barbecue bourbon sauce. That soundedgood. Bourbon, actually bourbon sounds good
by itself. Of course, ketchupis in there. Arby's light Italian dressing.
They have a mar Nara sauce. They have mayonnaise, you know,
(14:03):
but it's mayonnaise doesn't need any ofits special introduction. Parmesan, pepper,
corn ranch sauce that sounds really good. There are bees red ranch sauce.
So that's got some vinegar that's gottomato, that's got those things in it,
give it a little bit of zest. The roasted garlic aoli, which
is a fancy way of saying mayonnaise. Aoli is just an emulsion just like
(14:28):
mayonnaise with other flavorings in it.Sausage, gravy, smokehouse c sauce or
smoky ce sauce, spicy brown honeymustard sauce, so it's like their regular
honey mustard sauce us as a base. Then it's got some heat in there,
some brown mustard. Uh, treetop apple sauce that's not a sauce.
(14:54):
So interesting. So I guess itdepends where you are. I don't
know why I went down this.I think I'm hungry, and I think
now I'm craving Arby's, and Ican only think of one nearby. I'm
not sure if they deliver, butthat may may that may end up being
dinner, seeing as I'm starting tocrave it so much so. Founded in
(15:16):
nineteen sixty four in Ohio, oneof the largest fast food sandwich chains in
the US. But it's funny becauseyou don't think of them as a sandwich
place per se, but they are. That's what they do. But you
think, like, I don't knowsubway sandwiches or you know, I don't
(15:41):
think of Arby's as a sandwich place, but I guess that's what they are.
They're just a sandwich place. Right. That's a little weird, I
suppose, but that's what it is. And now I'm craving sandwiches. And
it's one of those things that onceyou get it in your mind, you
can't get it out. So nowI'm fighting with that. I'm looking,
okay, saying that's probably going tobe dinner. And should that be my
(16:02):
dinner? I don't know. Let'sgo to the phones. No, I'm
kidding, don't go to the phones. However, Well, what are you
having tonight for dinner? Joe?I think we're going out to eat if
I can make it. Oh yeah, Well how about some curly fries?
Okay, Okay, we'll see thechicken. What do they have here?
I haven't been in I haven't.I have been in a long time,
(16:26):
and it's it's just because they don'treally have a lot of them out here.
So in La, I can onlythink of one. I think it's
on sunset, and so that's theonly one that I can think of it.
It's not that far from me,but they have like chicken nugget kind
of Yeah, I haven't been indecades. Like I'm not even just exaggerating.
But tell your husband and see ifhe thinks you're sick. He probably
(16:48):
has never been too in decades ormaybe never. Yeah, a healthy fella.
Yeah, I mean like we cooka lot, so never any fast
food huh rarely? I know. Was I not judging, I'm just saying.
Did I ever meet him? Yes? Yeah, Michelle's birthday? Yes,
(17:12):
Yes, handsome guy. Look atyou? Hello, Wow, good
for you, Well for you,not me, No, I'm just kidding.
You're all listen. I don't dougly. Sorry, it's not the
way I do. Very smart.Yeah, good for you. You're listening
(17:33):
to the Fork Report with Nil Savedraon demand from kf I am six forty
always happy to be here with you, hanging out on a Saturday. The
sun is up, a little bitof breeze out there, tiny bit hazy.
Should be nice tomorrow as well, but the weather has been so weird.
Who the hell knows. Before weget to Taualla Sharp, we'll chat
(17:56):
with him to see what's coming upon soul Cow Saturday. I wanted to
take you about a thirty year study. In this study, they continue to
do these things on what they referto as ultra processed foods. In this
particular case, it's showing as alwaysthat eating these ultra processed foods is linked
to a higher risk in early death. I get it, but all these
foods are equally risky. And that'swhere it comes in. You need to
(18:21):
be a human and you need tobe smart and choose your foods properly.
So if you've got these foods thatcontain additives that are rarely used in home
cooking, then you should probably stayaway from them or not make them the
mainstay. And that means sodas, chips, packaged soups, processed meats,
sugary foods. These are gonna bethe bigger risk than things like whole grains
(18:45):
or things like that, and theycontinue to do these studies. This particular
study involved over one hundred thousand healthprofessionals, so they found that those consuming
the most ultra processed foods had afour percent higher risk of death. Now
me, I'm not telling you howto live your life. I'll take that
I'll take that if it tastes good. Meat's had a greater impact than other
(19:08):
ultra processed foods, although the correlationvaries. And that's what these things come
down to, so should be limited. They don't all need to be avoided.
Like I said, foods like cereals, whole grain breads, they have
other beneficial nutrients in them that canbe helpful. And you just kind of
look at your overall diet quality ratherthan focus on one food or the other.
(19:33):
We just love to demonize things herein the States, and this is
part of it. So you varyyour diet, got fruits, vegetables,
whole grains, timing together. Ofcourse, that moderation word that everybody throws
around is going to be key.And even foods that people refer to as
healthy, I prefer the term nutritiousrather than healthy because that seems to demonize
(19:56):
things. Things either have nutrition orthey don't. Like fruit juice, they
can be higher in sugar, evennatural sugars, and if they're consumed excessively,
can be a problem. So don'tbe fooled. But these studies continue
to pop up all right, comingup moments from now. At the top
of the hour is Soul col Saturdayswith our friend Taola Sharp t what do
(20:18):
you got on the menu today?Ay, and our journey around southern California.
Of course, we have to letyou know about the latest with this
thing and that, from the latesthappenings with Governor Newsom trying to revise this
budget all the way to Disneyland's planson the Disneyland Forward expansion which has finally
just been fully fully ratified and acceptedby Anaheim, and of course small business
(20:45):
Saturday today, I'm going fork reporton them. Yes, I'm going fork
report on them with MGD Hollywood KoreanBarbecue, a premium all you can eat
Korean barbecue restaurant and lounge in theheart of Hollywood. You have finally broken
the code, my friend, inorder to have free food, you gotta
(21:07):
do it. I get it.You broke the code. That's it.
I'm like, So that's how allthe food sells up, exactly. It's
like magic. No. I knowthat super producer Kayla specifically scheduled m GD
Hollywood Korean Barbecue as a way tofinally get ourselves some food here on Soul
Coal Saturday. I know. Yeah, that's why I don't teach her.
(21:32):
I try not to teach your tricksof the trade. Then they just move
along. That's awesome though, becauseI will tell you I've said this before.
It's at the backbone of the FolkReport is that the local economy rises
and falls on the hospitality and foodindustry. So if we don't, you
know, support these places, ithurts the entirety of our economy. Absolutely.
(21:55):
I mean, think about all ofour first jobs, really and truly
most of us started in some formof fast food. I know my first
was Taco Bell way way way backin the day, and it's kind of
like it's where you cut your teethon working professionally, you know, you
I don't really consider like babysitting asa first job, you know, fast
food or supermarket. That's why youbreak in. Yeah, you're right,
(22:21):
that is the thing. And Ithink that that's a powerful statement to the
way things work in the community, and people don't often think that. And
I know we're going, like wetalked about on the show, that they're
going to be rolling all these socalled junk fees into one price, and
that may be sticker shot for somepeople, but I think we need to
realize that it's part of the system. And if prices are going up,
(22:42):
if cost is going up, thenwe're you know, it gets passing along
to us no matter what. Absolutelywell, that sounds good, brother,
sounds like another cram packed show.I will be listening. That is Tuala
Sharp with soul Cow Saturdays coming upat five, So stick around for that,
won't you. Hey? Be kindto each other, be empathetic.
(23:03):
I know some of you may havemothers that passed, or some of you
may have had poor experiences with yourgenetic mom or your biological mom, and
there was another person in your life, male, female or otherwise that stuck
by you and helped you remember thinkabout them and if you pulled yourself up
by your own bootstrap, then celebrateyourself. There's a lot worth celebrating in
(23:27):
this life. And as Toula andToola and I talk about all the time,
because he's always got a grin onhis face, is that when you
wake up and you inhale and you'realive, that's a good day. It
may have circumstances that make it rougherthan other days, but it's still a
good day. So enjoy that.Enjoy your family, and celebrate life this
(23:48):
weekend for sure. That is atthe heart of mothers. They bring life,
all right, be kind to eachother, empathetic and I'll catch on
the flip side. This is NilSevadra, thinks to Joe Kwan. Of
course, Kayla and the team,as we continue to put this show on
for you every single Saturday. Allright, we'll catch you on the on
(24:11):
the flip side, it is ForkReport on Neil Sphedra. This is KFI
and KOSTHD two Los Angeles. You'vebeen listening to the Fork Report. You
can always hear us live on KFIAM six forty two to five pm on
Saturday, and anytime on demand onthe iHeartRadio app.
