I began working with battered women at a homeless shelter in the ‘90’s. One Monday evening during our anger management group, I posed the following question: “How would you describe yourself?” One resident responded, “I’m the nicest person you’d ever want to meet. I’d do anything for anyone.” (That’s nice to hear, I thought.) “Just don’t ever cross me. You’ll regret the day you ever messed with me.” She can’t be serious! And she wasn't alone: other women chided in that they were the same.
