I never thought much of myself. I was taught from an early age to be humble, that pride was a sin. As a result, I had difficulty ever seeing anything good in myself. I knew instinctively that God did not create any of us to suffer. Lack of self-love leads to self-loathing, and that is excruciatingly painful. How could I love myself when I engage in such despicable acts against myself and others? And was it even possible to love myself without being boastful or full of pride?
