Surviving Healthcare Today: Failure to Rescue Leads to the Loss of a Child
October 26, 2016•52 min
Guest: Wade Westhoff tragically lost his daughter to medical errors: "Our twin daughters – Morgan and Hunter – were born in with Patent Ductus Ateriosis, (PDA). Hunter’s surgery was successful, but Morgan was declared brain dead. Afterwards, Children’s Hospital Oakland kicked us to the curb. Hospital leadership did not seek us out to discuss why Morgan’s surgery went so terribly wrong. We received a patient care survey --- 'How can we improve Morgan’s care?'" Morgan was injured when they used surgical equipment against the manufacturer’s recommendations, and then the doctors were slow to call for surgical back up to rescue her.
