(00:00):

full time gig. Whether you arejust at the start of your songwriting journey
or a seasoned industry professional, thisshow is made for you. Welcome to
the Songwriter Show, bringing together songwriting, news, interviews and communitating. Now

(00:21):
welcome your host, Sirronto. Thankyou so much for tuning in, and
welcome back to the Songwriters Show righthere on Reality Radio one oh one.
I'm your host, Torontos, asolo music artist who's been writing lyrics for
as long as I can remember.Words mean the world to me, and
that's why I'm thrilled to host thisshow for you every single Tuesday evening.

(00:43):
I believe that every song is astory. Tonight, we're brought to have
Cat Daddy, a fantastical, funkyduo with a flair for all things funk
music. They're making their debut ontothe scene with the release of their first
single, Disco Love out June twentyfifth, twenty twenty three. Composed of
Aidan Paul and Leonardo Bacon, CatDaddy will be releasing this first single after

(01:04):
Wiley, groovy and wonderfully eccentric.Cat Daddy EP to debut later this year
with the electronic pop funk elements ofdaft punk, the abstract yet catchy structure
of Parcels in the disco sole lessonsof Hall and Oates. This powerful pair
has joined forces on a mission tofuse retro and mainstream relevance, captivating the
new listener and bringing nostalgia to theexperience. There and now welcome this week's

(01:29):
special guest. Welcome to show guys, how you do? Very good?
Thanks Sam, You welcome. Sohow did you guys get together? Well,
Leo and I have known each othersince elementary school and we went to
the same elementary, middle and highschool. But it wasn't actually until twenty

(01:51):
twenty, in the midst of theCOVID pandemic, that we got together to
just jam. And it turned outto be a lot more than that,
obviously. Yeah. We we likedthe chemistry, we liked our ideas,
and we tried making a song andthen from there we decided to come together

(02:14):
right now as cat Daddy and dothis song here. Well, I'm sure
the world is going to be happyyou did that. So tell us a
little bit about your songwriting process. There's want that you do a certain part.
You do things together, like howdo you do this? Usually usually
it's pretty random. I wouldn't saythere's a particular way we work. I
think that we get a feeling andusually when we're together, we were trying

(02:38):
to track something that like already existed, and then that's when everything else comes
to us and we end up spendingtime doing that instead of the song at
focused, but the project at hand. Right, so we it could be
Aiden singing a melody and then Ipick up an instrument closest to me and
I start playing to Aiden, orpick up an instrument and just start randomly

(03:02):
doing a riff for core progression andAid and will sing and we usually continue
that way. Yeah, for DiscoLove, I was intrigued by the melody
that Leo wrote, and he writesa lot of different melodies and just records
them into his phone and we'll gothrough those. And when he played the

(03:24):
original melody Disco Love, it justpopped out to me and I immediately started
getting ideas for lyrics. And asa songwriter, I tend to need to
hear the music first and then thelyrics come to me. And Leo tends
to be the one that composes amelody and I help him along with the

(03:50):
structure of the song. And Itend to be the lyricist at times,
at least for a Disco Love andthe few songs we have releasing in the
future. But overall, we definitelyhelp each other with the entire process in
each in each field. Yeah, that's cool. Tell us a little bit

(04:10):
about I heard this EPs coming out. Tell us a little bit about that.
So it's a five or six songEP starting with Disco Love. We
are with this EP project where wewant to explore the genres of disco pop
and funk. Funk is something thatwe realized, you know, that's the

(04:31):
genre we want to pursue and explore, and we're doing it in different ways.
With Disco Love, obviously it's adisco funk track, but you'll also
be hearing a rock funk track,a soul funk and kind of you know,
soul R and B and what's theother It was more of a low

(04:57):
low FW fight type like R andB hip hop funk. Yeah, so
anything that can get funky, everygenre is capable is potentially can potentially get
funky, you know, Yeah, absolutely, So that's what we like to
explore with with this EP. Yeah, tell us a little bit about your
inspirations musically. I grew up listeningto my dad listened to and at first

(05:24):
I was introduced to rock and alot of soft rock and a lot of
like UM disco, A lot ofpop fifties to nineties is surrounded my life
growing up. So a lot oftimes I take from the artists, my
favorite artists, which are like Iincluded hollow notes because they they they rhyme

(05:46):
with us. I feel like theway we write music is is similar to
how they did. I've seen manyinterviews they've done, and that's that's basically
where I draw my inspiration from anythingfunky and and like classic, like classic
rock and stuff. For me,my background is more church music. U

(06:11):
and my parents are both classical musicians, so I was raised on classical music,
m church music because I grew upsinging in churches and I currently sing
in a Catholic church, but I'vealso sung in Presbyterian churches, UM,
Southern Baptist churches with a lot ofsoul and right now, my inspirations UM,

(06:33):
at least for disco, that wouldbe the weekend UM as well as
Silk Sonic, that duo with AndersonPoc and Bruno mars Um and Daft Punk,
those three are really major well, but for disco and pop that those

(06:55):
are my three. It red Hotof course, you know, is super
inspirational for Cat Daddy, Yeah absolutely, and yeah when I think of yeah,
I think Daft Punk. I meanBruno mars for sure with what he's
done recently. But okay, tellus a little bit about this song we're
going to hear or what inspired it, all right, So Disco Love is

(07:17):
a track about letting the music elevateyou and change your mood, so bring
you from one state wherever you werebefore, whether that was sad or disappointed,
whatever emotion you were experiencing, maybeit was a lower vibration and the

(07:38):
song is meant to elevate your vibration. So in the song, I say,
I've got what it takes to takeyou away with the music I play.
And that's just my message to tellyou, like, music is a
superpower and it has the ability tochange your state of mind and your state
of being, and that's what I'mcommenting on with this song. Um,

(08:01):
and of course, what better genrethan disco to to achieve that. Okay,
very cool, So I'll tell youwhat. Let's take a listen to
the song and then we'll come backand talk a bunch more. Okay,
alrighty, al right, guys, everybody check this out. Here we go.

(08:33):
We both know that there's no bedtime and place. Don't be a
babe, there's no reason not todance the night away, and don't you
shy away? And oh, Igot what it takes. Let's take you
away with the music I play. And you say disco love and the sound

(09:01):
that you're just kicking enough playing thatdisco love. I don't know why,
but the shade is really bug alight. We both know that there's no reason
to run away or hide, andthe sounds so right. I would love

(09:24):
if you were by my side becauseI'm tired. I'm always be in the
moment, past me by yeah, yeah, if you want, and then
you know where it's set out beingback this time side. Got what it

(09:46):
takes to take you away with themusic I play. I can say that
you want to the rhythm inside Ijust want me so right, if it's
only tonight to me baby that thisco love. I got the sound that
you just can't get enough. Saythat this sco love, I don't know

(10:11):
why the beat the ship is reallyborn? And play that disco love.

(10:35):
I got the son that you justcan't get enough. Say that this go
love. I don't know why beatthe Ship is really born? This co
love? I got the sound thatyou just can't get enough. Say that

(10:56):
this is no love. I don'tknow what I would be. This ship
is really bore you won't you playthat? You don't you want it?

(11:43):
I know I gotta hit me baby, Won't you play that stove? Yeah?
I can see you a little funkthat song. So thank you for
sharing it with the audience tonight. No problem, Thanks for having us.

(12:05):
You're welcome. Do you guys havea certain mission with your music or for
each song that you want to sharewith the world. I wouldn't say we
have a particular mission, but wechase a few different ideas with each song
we write. And what's important tous is that we are fully true to

(12:26):
ourselves and our sound, and wealways write music that feels really good to
us because we know that we'll attractthe listeners that are like us and people
that can really vibe and relate tous. And you know, that's who
we want to surround ourselves with andalso be a sound that everybody can enjoy,

(12:50):
no matter what you listen to.But we want to spread that message
of authenticity and being who you areand just enjoying that process. Yeah.
Yeah, I think it's important toenjoy life a little bit too, right.
I think people sometimes get focused onemission, where life just becomes a
blur and passes them by. Yeah. I think it's important to stop around

(13:13):
and look Stop and look around, you know, or else we're gonna miss
it. And I think that ourmusic will do that or try to.
And we don't really want to staystuck on one genre either. We want
to explore, like Aiden said, anything that feels good to us in the

(13:33):
moment. We already have plans forfor hundreds of songs in the future,
different projects, different albums. Yeah, we have plans for a nine song
album after the EP, and it'salready kind of all demoed out. We
have demos for everything. And thething is that it has to be real.

(13:58):
It has to be real and howour mission and goal is for people
to feel how how real it feelsto us, and that's going to be
contagious and it's going to attract whowe ask to tell us about balance?
Its balance something you guys try todo between your music life, your personal
lives, your music. How importantis that to you? It's a beautiful,

(14:20):
dremely beautiful question and has everything todo with what we're going through right
now in life. Well if incertain we can talk about balance in a
few different regards in terms of lifestyle, are we do? I think the
secret there is to just get togetherwhenever possible, because we both have lives

(14:43):
outside of music in order to survive. But this is our dream and any
amount of time we can dedicate tothat dream, so and I guess it
naturally balances itself out in that way. But balance has a much deep or
meaning to us, and especially inthe songs we write, we talk about

(15:05):
balance in terms of well. Forexample, you can't have the good without
the bad, So when you arefeeling low, you need to remember that
it's important for you to feel thatway so that you can appreciate how it

(15:26):
feels to feel high and feel good. It's like the yin and yang,
or the balance of chaos and anorder. The two energies need to coexist.
And it's important for us to embracenot just the parts we like about

(15:46):
ourselves, but the dark parts, negative parts, or the parts that we
feel are inadequate. They are justas much part of us as the things
that we like or the things thatsociety tells you to like. And that's
huge for me, especially when Iwrite lyrics. I want to give people
permission to embrace the dark side aswell as the light. Yeah, and

(16:10):
that's important. I think. Tellus about you guys working together, is
there a certain direction you'd like tobe taking two years from now. Absolutely.
I think our big dream is towell, we're a dual band.
We want to have band members.I can see as being a big band,

(16:34):
I can see as being a fivepiece, four piece, but session
musicians, session musicians. Maybe it'sjust us and maybe we'll never find like
a brotherhood type of thing or sisterhood, you know, like a group,
like a group that just stays together. I think our mission is just to
travel the world, and our goalactually is just to travel the world and

(16:56):
perform anywhere we can share our ourour art with anyone. Kim M.
That's where we want to be inthe next two years, like just going
to places like Sweden, in London, Europe, Brazil. Yeah, Brazil.
I'm I'm from Brazil, so Iwould love to go there and perform
and stuff. I mean, yeah, we all want to we all want

(17:18):
to succeed, but I just wantto perform and share the music. Yeah,
I think it. I mean,I've always wanted to travel the world
and like to be able to dothat with my music is definitely one of
my biggest dreams to that to havethat be my purpose to see the world,
is to share music and also discoverother sounds of the world. That's

(17:42):
huge. That's definitely trajectory for CatDaddy. Yeah. How do you respond
to the backup pliant question? Youknow, whether it's family or friends that
think like this just a side gigand you'll eventually get sick of it if
you don't make it. How doyou respond to that? Oh, it
ain't it ain't it ain't leaving us, and we're not leaving it. It's

(18:03):
whether we make it or not. It's it's staying with us. It's something
we just have to do. Yeah. I'm pretty fortunate to have two parents
that are musicians, so they raisedme, they raised their family under an
artist's salary, and they just livedby example and showed me that it's possible.

(18:25):
So I feel very fortunate to seethat it's possible. Not only that,
but to be encouraged to pursue whatmy heart tells me to pursue.
Yeah. My parents also, theywere very supportive and they always kept me
in tune and connect to my talentsfrom a very young age. My mom

(18:45):
put me in art school. Iwas a painter. I tried music school,
I tried everything sports. I'm verygrateful to have a family that's supportive,
and I feel like now we findways to solve the problem, solve
the problem to survive every week, day by day, but we'll never abandon

(19:06):
our where our heart is and that'sthat's where the art is. That's how
we respond. I think that's howwe responded. Is there a specific accomplishment
you guys have made that you're especiallyproud of and indicates who you are as
a person. Yeah. I thinkthe fact that we're still doing this is

(19:27):
Oh yeah, the first part. Our first release is a big deal.
I mean, Disco Love is thefirst track to be released under Kat Daddy,
and that has established us as anentity in the world, and we've
been working on and we've we've beenworking together on music for almost three years
now, three years. Disco Loveis an almost two year project, and

(19:51):
before that release, we were justtwo guys making music together. But now
we're something. Yeah, and it'sjust the beginning. Disco Loves I was
an idea and then this whole timewe were just figuring it out and learning
how to how to make it areal thing, and it just got bigger
and bigger yea, and to thepoint where we ended up taking it to

(20:12):
Sweden to finally produce the track andget it mastered out there. That journey,
that was a journey in them itself. That's awesome. Man. Well,
I'll tell you what. I wantto thank you guys for being on
