Sophie Devine and Suzie Bates will return to the White Ferns for five games against South Africa, as the defence of the T20 World Cup looms in June.

Neither featured in the Zimbabwe series - the first time a New Zealand squad was named without one or the other since 2006.

Sportstalk host D'Arcy Waldegrave explains further.

Speaker 1 (00:00):
And Darcy Watergrave Sports Talk Coasters with us.

Speaker 2 (00:02):
Hello, duce Hi, Heather.

Speaker 1 (00:04):
Okay, so we've got Sophie Divine and Susie Bates back
in the White Fern squad.

Speaker 2 (00:08):
This is good.

Speaker 1 (00:09):
Why are they out?

Speaker 2 (00:10):
Well, Sovie Divine's actually retired from One Day internationals see
but for cover Team Love she's back for the T
twenty defense the World Cup coming up in June. Unfortunately
for Susi Baits she had a carth issue, so she's
been recovering since mid November I think it was, so
she's back in the Fold again as well. Georgia Plmmer

(00:34):
is back in the Fold two. So it's a fifteen
strong T twenty side that's been named. It's South Africa,
who are ranked fifth in the world. He's said on
the rank fourth in the world. There's some very good
players of South Africans. So there's five games and they've
got a fifteen person squad. A couple of the players
likely to who's also just retired from One day internationals,

(00:56):
have got the last three games. Paully Englis has got
the first couple, so they're giving some players some balance
to prove because they've got that squad that's going to
be named and when they get over there and defend that.
So it was a great news for Sezi Bates because
she's been frustrated as you would be as well, constantly
recovering from something banging straight back Indo. Again, it's the

(01:18):
you can argue it's the peak of the summer of
cricket for the women and it's autumn. But this is
an old story where I was going on about this note,
but like I'm looking forward to it. It should be good.
It's five T twenties and three One day Internationals and
it's in cahoots with the blokes as well. They're gonna
be some double headers with both the Jahina and the Tana.
Even it cracks. That's kind of cool and we'll be

(01:39):
talking to Suzi to night on the show as well.

Speaker 1 (01:41):
How much do we know about why these two Crusaders
boys were having a bash of each other.

Speaker 2 (01:46):
Kershaw Sykes Martin a prop and then a lock Will
Tucker came to blows. It was broken up by the
skipper David Haveli and they're all Celebert pess after like
all the fans, after what happened over the weekend twenty nine,
en rolled by the Blues but not hearing a lot.
I've contacted some people and the Crusaders going, can we

(02:07):
maybe have a word. No, we're not putting anyone up. Ah,
but go no, we're not putting anyone up. Rob Penny said,
it's not the first time and it won't be the
last time, and he likes to see the fact there
is tension within the site and sometimes it boils over. Now,
a lot of these practices, these trainings are in private,
so the public don't get to see. This just has

(02:27):
to happen to happen right in front of a media
when the media with their hands has come jumping out
of the media.

Speaker 1 (02:32):
So Rob Penny says, it was a really lovely sight
to see. Actually, it is a reflection of how much
it means the boys aren't happy with the performances and
the outcomes.

Speaker 2 (02:42):
I don't think anybody outcomes stop that word. I don't
think anybody it celebrates out and out violence. But I
think the fans go, yeah, you guys should feel bad
about yourselves. That was pop and this is starting to
roll through that and they're like, nah, hold on this.
I don't think it was a case that someone whispering
the air you got bad breath. I don't think that

(03:03):
would have been the case. It would have been some
explosion and someone got hat. It was all of it. Ah.
I think that last time Rob Penny got into a
bit of strife, he called one of the media under
his breath a nasty word and it came out and
TVNZ played it, and I'm told the cameras were there,
whether we'll say it, and I don't know. Wouldn't you
think in a perfect world, coach or CEO or someone

(03:24):
had come out and go, yeah, this happened, So what
story dies? So story dies straight away.

Speaker 1 (03:30):
I have a long standing theory that part of the
decline of rugby is because it's so bloody boring because
we don't have any good storylines and we forget that
like they are not humans and this is a perfect
storyline and they should own it. And I can't wait
to see the footage of it.

Speaker 2 (03:43):
Well this is that, and why not come out and
talk about it. It's not going to go away because
what we're going to do is going to make up
our own stuff. Now. Nature of bores a vactman going
oh what happened now?

Speaker 1 (03:51):
And I love what Rob Penny said that Darcy, thank you.
I love it mate. Darcy would have Sports Stalk Coaster
be back at seven the seasoning Thank you very much.
