Europe's football champions have ruled over the FIFA World Cup champions.

Spain has beaten France 2-nil in the first semi-final of the tournament - denying French manager Didier Deschamps a third successive final as his 14-year-old reign draws to a close.

Sportstalk host D'Arcy Waldegrave recapped the action further.

Speaker 1 (00:01):
Listen, we've just managed to get in touch with the
Poultry Industry Association. These are people who look after the
chicken farmers and the turkey farmers and whatnot in this country,
because of course, the bird flu is a real threat
to that industry. Just kills all the turkeys. Apparently, all
the turkeys will die. Well, not not necessarily. I mean,
if the turkey farmers are doing the right thing and
you know, they've got the buyer protection and whatnot, the
turkeys might not die. But if it gets in there,

(00:22):
the turkeys are dead. So we have a chat to
them after the five o'clock line them up right now,
seventeen past four.

Speaker 2 (00:29):
Are you saying there's going to be no dry main
course for Christmas anymore?

Speaker 1 (00:34):
I mean, I'm not going to miss the turkey, but
the turkey farmers I feel bad for them because they've
got nothing to sell because they're all dead turkeys anyway.
So yeah, so it is actually quite serious, Dart.

Speaker 2 (00:46):
So we don't get that show.

Speaker 1 (00:47):
We make life of it at all. Listen. Seriously, I
was gonna say, the Rugby the football this morning, you
get up and watch it? Yeah, yeah, apparently so our
local cafe was running the football this morning.

Speaker 2 (00:58):
It was humming real easy in there. Wow, the immovable
object and the irresistible force, well, the object didn't move
and the irresistible force just spread to the outside and
did nothing that was sensational by the Spanish, was it.
I think they were wholly out coached the French team
and they had nothing when it really mattered. It was

(01:19):
a pretty poor start for them when you consider that
the penalty that they conceded up to twenty odd minutes,
it was a bit of an unfortunate penalty. But once
they got that, the Spanish were like, this is old
school from when we used to play sport at school.
This is my ball. No, you can't play with it.
And that's what they did.

Speaker 1 (01:37):
Good.

Speaker 2 (01:37):
From there, they hit it up there jumper and ran away.

Speaker 1 (01:39):
Because I was talking to somebody, I think it might
have been Piny actually a couple of weeks back, and
he said, oh, France could be the one they could
take it out.

Speaker 2 (01:47):
I think a lot of people thought that because they
played this beautiful freedom. They had this explosive sense of
how football should be played. It was elaborate, it was
over the top. They were scoring goals, they were it
was the essence of great football, which of course that
never happens when it comes to major finals. You've got
to bore your way into success.

Speaker 1 (02:07):
So have we got the English and the Argis and
the other semi.

Speaker 2 (02:10):
Yeah, tomorrow morning, seven o'clock. Yeah, year can get through
that one. I think I've seen this before that what
England have endured over the last couple of matches that
they're battle hardened. I think they know how to get
the job done when it does get to the down
and dirty. But I also think that there's a bit
of a soft spot towards Argentina from hall FIFA. So

(02:33):
whether that is conspiracy theory, I can't back that up
with anything. Now it'll be an explosive match.

Speaker 1 (02:39):
On the rugger. We can pick who's going to win
a the team's getting named tomorrow and then we're going
to play the Irish and we're going to win Irish
or not? What they were?

Speaker 2 (02:47):
No and am interested in with this and Ian Jones
is going to join us night to talk about it.
What's the weight of expectation like around the fortress that
is Eden Park haven't lost, it's almost like the first lose.
It's going to be quite a relaxing feeling around the rest.

Speaker 1 (03:04):
Of the spring box. Who do it to us?

Speaker 2 (03:06):
Well, we thought that last year and it was a
masterclass by the All Blacks and then they turned up
the week after and Wellington and showed the exact opposite
of that and it was a train wreck. So positive
and I've sold out. It's Eden Park. It's when that
place is sold out, it absolutely bounces. So should be good.
Wouldn't expect the Irish to provide much, but this is

(03:26):
a very new team. Team comes out tomorrow and it
will have to be the best fifteenth Yes that's twenty
three and see who it really really will be.

Speaker 1 (03:34):
