Enda Brady: UK correspondent on heatwave conditions continuing in the UK

Heatwave conditions are set to continue across the UK over the next few days, according to new reports. 

More than eight million households in England are now living under hosepipe bans, and some parts have recorded a wet weather shortage. 

UK correspondent Enda Brady says more people are also working from home to beat the heat.

Okay now into the woodacom Muda is now being investigated
as possibly a terrorism attach, is it?

Yes? Counter Terrorism police are leading the investigation. This is
a pretty sharp handbrake turn from what we were told
Friday morning that Devon and Cornwall police were leading the investigation.
It was not being treated as terrorism and a twenty
six year old local man had been arrested. Well within
a matter of hours that man had been released completely

from the investigation and is not involved in any of this.
And they made an arrest in the town of Rotherham
in South Yorkshire where they picked up a twenty eight
year old man. He's now in police custody. They've gone
into his property in the town of Rotherham, searched it
and as a result of what's been found in there,
counter terror cops in London are now in charge of

the investigation. So a huge turnaround. Some of the newspapers
are speculating that Russian communist propaganda and literature was found
in the property in Yorkshire.

Speaker 1 (01:04):
Ah, that's interesting, isn't it. Hey, I mean it seems
something somewhat trivial to talk about this, but what's going
on with the temperature.

Speaker 2 (01:12):
It keeps climbing and the weather forecast today tells us
that the heat wave in the UK our third heat
wave of the summer. Remember we had one in May,
we have one in June, and now we're going through this.
It's continuing through all of next week as well. Shocking temperatures.
I mean we've hit thirty five celsius I think on
six separate days this summer. Reservoirs are running out of water.

Eight million people have hosepipe bands being in placed and
restrictions on water usage. This is not good and this
is a summer like we've never had before. And every
year those records keep tumbling. So it just struck me.
I looked in the diary today. We're actually going on
holidays next Friday to the Canary Islands, where it's seven
degrees cooler than where we live in England right now.

(01:56):
You know we used to go on holidays to get
a bit of sunshine. We're going on home for a
bit of respite.

Speaker 1 (02:02):
Apart from that, when you were actually stuck in the
hot temperature, what are you doing to cool down?

Speaker 2 (02:06):
We've got air Conon in this office right now, which
is wonderful, drinking a lot of water, staying hydrated and
staying in the shade and just kind of being smart
about exercise and being exposed to the sun. It's the
tube is the real problem, because anyone, everyone knows, anyone
who wants to get around London, you need the tube.

(02:28):
And it is hot and sticky and quite grim. And
I'm noticing the numbers are falling day by day. I
think an awful lot of people are just working from home.

Speaker 1 (02:35):
Yeah, fair enough, I can understand. Now, do you guys
think that you're going to make it through to the finals?

Speaker 2 (02:39):
Do you?

Speaker 1 (02:41):
Well?

Speaker 2 (02:41):
The English certainly do, Heather, God bless them. Look a
little man called Lionel Messi may have something to say
early hours of Thursday morning, your time about this England Argentina.
I hope England win. I know several of the lads
playing in the England first time and they're really, really
good boys. It would be incredible. I think it would
give the country such a lift if England can be Argentina.

(03:03):
Keir Starmer, we hear these are his last few days
in power. Sunday will be his last day in the
Prime Minister's office in Number ten Downing Street. If England
be Argentina, Starmer will be going immediately to America where
he will go and watch the World Cup final on Sunday,
and that would be his last day as Prime Minister.
He would fly back overnight, hopefully with England with the trophy,

(03:27):
and then Starmer would head off to see King Charles
and resign formally and step down. That's what Downing Street
are saying. But Starmer being Starmer, he'll probably change his
mind before the match kicks.
