Rohan Metrani: SolarZero customer on being locked into a contract with the liquidated solar-panel subscription service

Customers of a liquidated solar-panel subscription service are complaining they're stuck in expensive contracts.  

SolarZero went into liquidation in 2024, with thousands of customers still on 20-year-agreements.

Now many customers say their power bills are rising more than expected - with no easy solution. 

Customer Rohan Metrani says he has no one to speak to, to cancel his contract. 

"We want to get rid of their system, we're paying for the rental - which isn't really getting us any savings. So it's become more of a liability."

Listen, we got to talk about Solar Zero.

Solar Zero.

Speaker 1 (00:02):
Do you remember that panel business, Solar Zero that went
into liquidation a couple of years back. It's customers are
still having problems today, two years after it went bust.
Many customers are complaining that their power bills are going
up more than they were told and they're trapped in
these twenty year contracts. Rohan Mitrani is a Solar Zero
customer and with us now.

Speaker 2 (00:20):
Hi, Rohan, Hello, good afternoon.

Speaker 1 (00:23):
Hey, So what's going on for you?

Speaker 2 (00:26):
For me?

Speaker 3 (00:27):
We've been trapped for the last i would say about
five ish years since they first started, and we have
been trying to get out for a while, and they
have mentioned that you need to pay about five or
seven thousand. This was before they went bust, and right
now we don't have any other contact that can advise
or give us any sort of indication about how we
can come out.

Speaker 1 (00:47):
Hold on, So, even if you wanted to get out
right now, you don't know who to talk to.

Speaker 2 (00:51):
We don't know who to talk to. Know.

Speaker 1 (00:53):
Can't you just cancel your payments or is it a
direct debit?

Speaker 3 (00:57):
The only thing we're worry about is just the credit
because if we don't pay them, then there's a few
people who have mentioned that you reduce your credit score,
and that's something that none of us want either, do
you know, unless.

Speaker 2 (01:08):
There is a possibility, yeah, carry on, carry on?

Speaker 3 (01:11):
Sorry, unless there have been mentions about people mentioning that
you can raise a dispute and then stop paying. But
I haven't gone down that route yet.

Speaker 1 (01:18):
Is it worth going down that route? Mate?

Speaker 3 (01:21):
Possibly, because it's become more of a liability at this stage.
So initially the way it was promised was that it's
a win win for everyone. So Soloso makes money by
selling the excess power to the grid and then we
also make a bit of savings. But at the moment,
I'm looking for about three four hundred dollars a month
and it's just me and my messes and plus the rental.

Speaker 2 (01:41):
And this is only for the lighting or.

Speaker 3 (01:44):
If it's the TVs or the lapps because we've got
and I don't have electric vehicle, and even for the
cook even for the cooking and the hot water that's
on bottled gas.

Speaker 1 (01:53):
Hold on, are you telling me that you're paying about
four hundred bucks a month for just losing and your
lighting and it's just too, you yes, and then what's
the rental?

Speaker 3 (02:02):
On top of that rental, I'm paying one hundred and nine,
there's wonder four people that have been paying quite a
bit more than that.

Speaker 1 (02:09):
Che okay, okay, So I mean it seems to me
the situation because just explain to me why it is
that you guys are complaining before you actually raise a dispute.

Speaker 3 (02:21):
We're complaining because we're paying quite a bit more than
any regular customer, so we pay for the rental, and
then on top of that, we also paying quite a
substantial amount for the for the n I understand.

Speaker 1 (02:33):
I mean, would my bloody be complaining about it as
well if I was you. But what are you hoping
to get from complaining about it?

Speaker 3 (02:38):
We want to get rid of their system because that's
become a liability. First of all, that there's a few
people who've also mentioned that it has caused leaks in
the roof or the condition of the roof has been compromised.
That's one issue that's not a lot of us. That's
although there is some of us. Then the other issues
that we're paying for the rental, which isn't really getting
us any savings, So it's become more of liability that

we're still being for that, but then again we've being
just as any other customer would.

Speaker 1 (03:05):
Okay, well listen, good luck with that. I think I
think it's probably I think we've reached the conclusion where
we've realized what you need to do here, which is
