New data shows that Kiwis spent a collective $1.1 billion on takeaways in the first quarter of 2026, as delivery services see more popularity.

Delivereasy, Uber Eats, and DoorDash are becoming a key part of New Zealanders' lives - and diets - and many local eateries are reliant on these services.

Delivereasy founder Tim Robinson says people like the convenience, and the growth has been interesting to watch.

"Even when times are a little bit tough, people seem to like the convenience and the comfort."

Speaker 1 (00:00):
Now New Zealand has been a collective one point one

(00:01):
billion dollars how about that on takeaways in the first
three months of this year, the likes of Uber Eats,
deliver Easy and door Dash and so on. Tim Robinson
is a co founder of deliver Easy and with us.

Speaker 2 (00:12):
High Tim, Hey, nice to talk.

Speaker 1 (00:14):
It's good to talk to you.

Speaker 2 (00:15):
Now.

Speaker 1 (00:15):
I heard apparently there was a sudden surge in just
the last year. Have you seen that.

Speaker 2 (00:20):
Yeah, there's been a bit of a I guess I
kicked back up as the economists maybe picked up a
little bit. Yeah, we've certainly seen it coming through.

Speaker 1 (00:26):
What's going on? Why are we so into this? I mean,
like at one point one billion dollars and three months
is a huge amount of money.

Speaker 2 (00:32):
Yeah, I mean I'm certainly chipping in. It's I think
it's convenience, mate, we all like it. But yeah, I
think there's one of being convenience trends and I think
food has been a huge one in them. And it's yeah,
it's been an interesting watch, but it's yeah, definitely growing
made everyone times a little bit. Tafeople seemed to like
the convenience in the.

Speaker 1 (00:51):
Comfort well because it's a little treat, isn't it Like
it's doesn't have to be super expensive. It can be
fifty bucks, but you can treat yourself and it can
come to you. If you've got little kids, you don't
have to the house. It's just brilliant, isn't it. I
love it. I've really leaned into this. Why should I
go deliver easy over uber each thie?

Speaker 2 (01:07):
Oh, my great question. We'll cure. We owned, so we
started here in twenty sixteen, so it's a complete news
young owned and our creative business. So you're spending here,
you're looking after local people, local jobs, and I mean yeah,
I think in the last four years we've probably paid
twice the text over in his Zealand, which is a
bit of crazy step with that.

Speaker 1 (01:27):
In and of itself, I like, look after yourself. Tim,
Thanks very much, Tim Robinson, Deliver Easy co founder. For
