situation to don going tonight, and I know a couple
of things. One of the things I know is that
at night time it's hard to get information because people
can't see what's going on. But we are here for you,

I'm pretty interested in what the situation, what's happening in
Kakatta as well, because there is flooding there, and if

wouldn't mind gleaning from you. And I just look at Google.
I don't know how important this is in the scheme
of things when you go back to flip flood situation,
but I look at the map of CAUI coulder right
and the stream comes down under the road, under the
railway bridge and then goes right behind the shops. Why

does it not go straight to sea? And is that
where it's flooded? Because looking at that on the map
today when I was listening to new Some'm thinking, well,
if that's why it's flooding, surely that stream needs to
go straight to the water. You all know about this,
but I'm looking where it actually floods, and I guess
it probably floods the other side of the river up
by Hawthorne Road. It seems to be the same stream
that comes up anyway, if you've got the information there

on the spot, let us know what's happening there. But yeah,
we did hear we did here last night that there
was going to be a huge amount of rain in
the hills, and of course the hills end up in
rivers and the rivers end up coming out there. If
you've got some information in us know about that. There's
a situation with Cai Culder. If you are on the
road driving up there, also stay in touch with us,

you updated with that. There will be more evacuations. State
highay ones also closed between Cheviot and CA Coulder, no
alternative routes available, so you got to go right back
through Nelson and well, yes, it's well up to blend
them and down and around and round through the Lewest paths,
so it's a it's difficult as this system moves north.

So Gillings Lane is also one of the places where
people are evacuating, So if you've got the information about
that or about where it floods, because looking at a
map it does appear to be fairly flood prone. But
if you've got the information about that, they apparently had
a big flood in ninety three and a lot of
people think this is deja vu over again. So yeah,
Gillings Lane doesn't appear to be close to winning. Oh,

I know there is a stream that goes through there too,
small streams, but they become big streams, don't they and
rainfall events like this. So you've got information about that,
let us go. I will do what I can to
keep you updated. It's hard from where I'm seeing to
know how much of an active situation that is. But
while it's raining and still raining, I will do what
I can also to I'm seeing that I'll be able
to give you as many updates as I can, so yes,

this guy, this motorist was trapped for four hours, rescued
by Foreign Emergency New Zealand's swift Water Rescue team who
traveled from cal Coulda probably just off there known Calcutta
Road there mountain life. After the alarm was raised, Jeff
after three a m. That was this morning. Didn't even
know we it had such a thing. But I'm pleased we
have the Foreign Emergency New Zealand's swift water rescue team,

and I guess they must move around the country and
go to the areas where potentially they would be needed.
The first to two four wheel drive vehicles carrying four
specially trained rescuers rode at four forty five am. When
they met by the wire volleys the motorists. An older
man was stuck in his car, which being pushed off
a private road where a stream had burst its banks,
so two meters from the vehicle. They said it was

as good as a million miles when you got a
raging torrent. That took four hours. Men caught on a
stump with the full force of the water pushing into
the vehicle side for every dark vere, every cold driving rain.
Between the man and the safety were several willow trees
and quite a bit of flood debris, logs and branches
coming down. What an extraordinary story. They used a group
wading technique which uses strength in numbers to break the

flow with a tethered system. So I guess that's all
linked arms attached to a log. I would imagine they
weren't able to reach the mantil reaching the car around
seven am. He was in good spirits, must have been terrified.

at three o'clock this morning.

at Iron Bridge. The other the rocks had come down

I've been here since just today and that guy sort
of pumped up a bit. The river isn't quite flooding everyone.
Most caravans have been evacuated, and as they're just releasing
the water from upstream, the wind's backed off and it's
not really raining so much anymore.
