Speaker 1 (00:07):
You're listening to the Marcus lash Night's podcast from News Talks.

Speaker 2 (00:11):
I'd be.

Speaker 3 (00:13):
Rob.

Speaker 2 (00:13):
This is Marcus Welcome.

Speaker 3 (00:15):
Yeah, yeah, good, good evening, Marcus. I've got two quick
stories for you. I learned to drive into Austin Allegro
when I was fourteen. So I used to take my
sister and brother and mate to school and Astor Legro
and there was a column change and they had four gears,
but they had dropped second gear. So I used to

(00:36):
go from first and the third of the fourth. And yeah,
that's that's how I learned to drive.

Speaker 2 (00:43):
Really ugly car, one of the worst car looking cars.

Speaker 3 (00:46):
Either exactly they were, but they were quite roomy inside.

Speaker 2 (00:51):
They had to be something.

Speaker 3 (00:52):
Yes, look, I was a little bit naughty when I
was fifteen and I stole a car.

Speaker 1 (00:59):
Oh go.

Speaker 3 (01:00):
It was a Mark Mark one callteina ye. And what
happened was I was with an eighteen year old and
we were just walking along and I don't know what
for some stupid recent we saw this car. They had
its keys in it parked outside a BP service station
and fielding. So we jump and I jump in the
driver's seat, I could drive, and off we go and

(01:22):
we pulled our money and we drive to Parmaston North
and we go to Central Service station and put five
dollars worth of fuel on it, and we bought a
packet of Benson and Hedges cigarettes and we were just
driving around the city and then we head back to
Fielding and in those days they used to have the
wooden markers along the side of the road, and we
were knocking over a few of those and then the guy,

(01:46):
the guy I was worth, he was desperate for a drive,
so he was like eighteen ospit. I relented and I
pulled over. I pulled over, got out of the car.
He got out of the car to jump in the
driver's seat. And then this car came roaring up to us.
Two guys jumped out of it and they go, you
little shits, and they were the owners of the car.

(02:10):
So I sprinted off up the street like a hare.
I was just going, you running, and he drove off
in the car and then I stopped. I said, oh, sorry, sorry,
and he goes, you're going to get a hiding, and
so I sprinted off again. And it was in a
residential area and I darted down this house and I

(02:31):
hid in the garden and the venting garden and at
moments like that, and I was sweating, and I could
hear my heart beat, and I was wondering whether they
could hear it that the guy's chasing me. And then
after about forty minutes, I left the property and I thought, oh, well,
what if they're driving down the streets still looking looking
for me. So I had a bomber jacket on and

(02:54):
I turned it inside out and it had a white
woolen inside. And then this car drives past. It's the
same guys, but they drove straight past me because I
I was wearing a different a different jacket because I
just turned it inside out. So I thought, oh, I
better get home. So I rushed home and I told them.

(03:15):
And as I was going home, about a kilometer up
the road, I saw these emergency lights and police lights going.
So I go home and tell my dad. I said, oh, sorry,
we've stolen the car. And so he chucks me in
the car takes me down the road to where this
accident happened. And the guy had had flown over the
railway lines and busted the axles.

Speaker 2 (03:38):
And then you got your mate head.

Speaker 3 (03:41):
Yes, yes, because he had gotten the driver's seat and
then he crashed the car, just blewed the bits, and
so my dad took me down there and then he
said to the police, so, well, here's the here's the accomplice.
And then you know, back in those days, the cops,
you know, the police were really big men, and they looked,
frowned at me, grabbed hold of me, taken me back

(04:02):
to the police car. And then this lady come up
to me and goes, oh, you don't have to say nothing,
don't comment, don't say nothing to them. So they chuck
me in the backseat. And in those days you went.

Speaker 2 (04:15):
Just hang on there, rob, I just got commercials. Just
don't don't go anywhere. So the woman comes and sees,
you don't have to say anything. Then the cops take
you away.

Speaker 3 (04:23):
Yes, yes, and they take me back to the station.
So I don't say nothing to them. And back in
those days, you came up before the court speadly quickly.
So it was so in a week's time that that
sent me all the information. I had a teen courts.
I go into court there with my brief and then
the senior sergeant reads helped the chargers, and so I

(04:44):
accept the charges and then he say he's also hasn't
disclosed who the third person was involved in the theft
of the stackle. When I saw a look at my
brief and I said, no, no, no, there was no
third person. And then the senior sergeant goes, he hasn't
said who it is. And then I click and I said,
oh no, no, that third person was mean because in

(05:06):
my jacket inside help to avoid.

Speaker 4 (05:15):
Yeah, the judge, the judge, he sort of puuses, he
pulls his glass and across his nose and then he
sort of looks over it. Yeah, and even my parents
were stubbed the bill that they couldn't believed it. They said, oh, well,
you didn't tell us about this person. I said, oh no, no,

(05:38):
that was me. So yeah, so I got six month supervision.
But but I settled down after that, got my license,
got a job, and uh yeah, yeah, everything worked, everything
worked out good.

Speaker 2 (05:51):
Can you make you make turned out all right?

Speaker 4 (05:53):
He did? Yeah.

Speaker 3 (05:54):
Yeah, he was injured. Yeah, I don't know, he had stretches.
I think he had his arm and a sling for
a little bit. But he Yeah, he got worse than me.
He got fined four hundred bucks. And yeah, I just
got six months supervision and that was a good wake
up call.

Speaker 2 (06:09):
Fantastic story, Rob, Thank you Ruver very much for that
love that you had to get that story and that's
a ripper the Third Guy.
