Speaker 1 (00:07):
You're listening to the Marcus Lush Nights podcast from News Talks.
Speaker 2 (00:11):
A'd be but to a quaky day. I'm looking at
the GeoNet website to a couple of quakes. They are
five point four and a four point one and three
point six. She's all happening. I think it's good. I'm
those seismologists. I think good small quakes is what you want.
It's the it's the plates up against each other, kind
of moving past each other slowly. What you don't want
(00:31):
was where they kind of get jammed and then build
up and build up. Then you get the big quakes.
So yeah, one an hour ago when Palmerston North four
point one, and one earlier on today too that you'll
know about a five point four north of Tikaha quakes.
Funny enough, most of them seemed to happen at night.
Is that true? Or am I just mainly at work
at night. I don't know the answer to this, but
(00:52):
I'm hit till twelve. By the way, I'm here to twelve. I'
keep you up dead with a state of origin. And
funny enough, we're doing technical work. I will go off
here at eleven o'clock for a minute. I might milk.
It could be longer. Who knows they do some techie work.
The the jenny should kick and who knows anyway, less
(01:13):
of a focus on the weather tonight, although today I
have driven to Queenstown and returned. Snow at Queenstown, was
snow going into Queenstown, really Kingston up through there, snow
on the hill's quite low. Not settling in Queen's Gee.
There a lot of people there, ah, jeepest creepers. They're
building a lot and wet, very wet on the way back,
but kind of stopped just past Lumston, free heavy pulling
(01:34):
on the road. So I was glad to finish that
guu ernie. So anyway, that is that. That is me
there and back and welcome to it. A couple of
things I need to talk about tonight. Well, want to
gave contact energy the shove cheapest creepers. Talk about unreasonable anyway,
power companies, Ah, apparently should switch companies once a year.
(01:56):
Who knew most dined, but who knew anyway? We might
spend some time talking power companies tonight. The companies they went,
but they're so unreasonable. The other thing today for us,
for me, for us, and it was a slightly disturbing
thing that happened. We're both in the car driving up
(02:18):
north and we've got a phone call and it came
up on Vanessa's phone from Kitia. We know someone, I said,
answer it. We've got a good friend in Kaitaia. We
don't know anyone in k type up with a good friend.
Oh answer, it'll be such and such. Name's not important,
but you know, oh yeah, yep, And a guy said,
And out to the phone and a guy spoke and
(02:40):
he said, such and such are you interested in such
and such with an apartment in Auckland. We just let
you know that this is happening, and that is happening.
And Vanessa said, is this just a cold call? He says,
oh yeah, we're going through a number of things. We
can take your number off the list if we like.
And the conversation went on a bit. Visa would quite
(03:01):
a reasonable sounding guy, kind of a likeable, sort of
a rooster, And the phone went on and yeah, thanks
for that, Yeah, we can do that. And so we're
not about three or four minutes, No, probably that's exaggeration.
We're not about a minute and a half where they're saying,
oh yes, this is this, and that is that, and yeah,
we prefer you didn't get if you didn't phone us again,
(03:23):
because we're not interested in what you're ringing about. And
then and I hadn't got up. I wasn't up up
with the program of the VANSA says are you ai?
And the guy said, yeah, I am. Oh he's reasonable,
he's a robotlip and yeah, So it was quite so.
I mean, I'm sure this has probably happened to you people.
But if it was a call on my own, I
(03:43):
wouldn't have known. And it was a shorter call, no
one would have known. So they had quite a long
conversation with him. I asked him his name and it
was Jack, And I asked him whether he thought it
was ethical to call people and not tell them he
wasn't a person. I asked him questions about what it
was like to not be a person, whether it had
a girlfriend and stuff. But yeah, and I've spent a
lot of time thinking about that today. So anyway, so
(04:04):
that is happening out there. So people are cold calling
you and they're robots, and they're not telling you funny enough.
I think about two weeks ago someone texted me and
said that there are people calling it out, and I
just thought it would be like when you're on call
waiting at the hospital, tell me please how I can help.
But this was a guy. But this was a robot
pretending to be a guy, with no declaration at all
(04:25):
and quite convincing. Was for city sales, real estate or
something in Auckland. So why am I telling you this?
Because I reckon most of you would fall for it. Shocking,
But if you hadn't asked, you wouldn't have known. And
I don't even know about you, but I think probably
if there's AI robots calling you, they should say, hey,
(04:47):
by the way, I'm not a person, I'm a robot.
Anyone feels strongly about this, or anyone experienced it, or
anyone listening to me thing, Actually, probably I experienced it,
but I didn't realize because I think that is probably
the more likely scenario. Am I angry?
Speaker 3 (05:00):
No?
Speaker 2 (05:01):
What I am is that cheapest creepers those jobs we
put ourselves university doing. Suddenly within a year of AI,
the've all gone, all those phoning people asking them questions,
trying to do the soft tell on them all that's gomburger.
And I presume this computer was ringing thousands of people
at once. What would have taken weeks, would have just
been this robot.
Speaker 4 (05:22):
I couldn't.
Speaker 2 (05:22):
I said, why are you calling from Kaitetia because there
was a sleazy thing also, and then I don't know
where they get the numbers from, but why would you
be calling? Because for a long time I thought, you know,
I was talking to this guy. Well he was cold
calling us for an Auckland company but pretending he was
from kaite Tyre. But not only was he pretending for
he was from Kyti, he was pretending he was a person.
(05:42):
Oh flip, So I've had a close brush with the future.
I don't like it, but who knows. I mean, they'll
be calling talk back next because it was quite convincing.
And when he says his name was Jack, I thought, well,
why have you got stupid name? Computer guy? Unbelievable but
so likable. Anyway, if you've experienced this or have queries
(06:03):
or worries about this, I'm not happy at all about it. Anyway,
is this something that you've experienced out there? And listen
to land, because I think it's I'm shocked in the palled.
It just seemed underhand. Oh Jack, underhand jack, but such
a likable sort of a rooster. How are you? What's happening?
Speaker 4 (06:19):
Like?
Speaker 2 (06:20):
Polite, not nervous. I mean, if I didn't realized it
was a robot, it would have been quite a pleasant direction.
But clearly was a robot. Robot ron Dave Marcus Welcome,
Oh hi.
Speaker 5 (06:29):
Marcus, Hey, Hello, Hello, Hello, Hello Marcus.
Speaker 6 (06:36):
On the news tonight, I saw a wee thing about
solar panels and whatnot, and we could go and buy
these solar panels and simply plug them into.
Speaker 5 (06:49):
Your wall socket.
Speaker 6 (06:50):
Yes, how bed is there? I'm on a hang on?
Was it bad? Because what you're doing is you're pumping
pair into the grid, and with me being a I'm
going to pay.
Speaker 4 (07:09):
No.
Speaker 6 (07:09):
Yes, but next time there's a pair cut and the
pole linesman goes out and works on that line, they
get zept.
Speaker 2 (07:18):
I don't think, Yeah, you wouldn't get you wouldn't get zet.
It would be legitimate. It's not going to be Yeah,
when they're dead in the line. They're dead in the line.
They can't sell something that's going to kill you wouldn't
be allowed through safety pulling. It's Marcus, good evening.
Speaker 7 (07:29):
So Marcus, this business with the robots. The robots cannot
have been programmed to answer every question in the world,
So what we should do with it?
Speaker 2 (07:40):
As they're not programmed, they're thinking for themselves. This is
not some sort of algorithm. It's going through these are
This is AI. They generate their conversations people. A lot
of people have got AI girlfriends and boyfriends, which are
which they have quite good relationships with.
Speaker 7 (07:55):
But you were asking the robot questions, weren't you. Yeah, okay,
what if you asked the robot what is the name
of my great great paternal grandmother something? Really?
Speaker 2 (08:08):
But a cold caller wouldn't know that, though, would they?
Speaker 7 (08:10):
No, you're true. Gosh, this is difficult, isn't it?
Speaker 2 (08:13):
And I think all families now need safe words because
I think what happens is someone could, actually someone could.
Speaker 7 (08:21):
If you're right a safe word, Yes.
Speaker 2 (08:24):
If that AI program had used my voice, yes, And
there's enough of it out there too, Yes, And they
could ring someone and they could, you know, they could
They could do whatever and call people and pretend that
they are me, call family members, and no one would
be any of the wiser.
Speaker 7 (08:40):
That's right, You're absolutely right.
Speaker 2 (08:43):
I've had a terrible accident and I need a million
dollars put into a bank or something. So I think,
you know, well you laugh.
Speaker 7 (08:50):
I know what you mean. Yep, you push that the
safe word is the way to go. Marcus, well done.
Speaker 2 (08:56):
I don't want to have a discussion with the kids
about a safe word. Seems creepy.
Speaker 7 (08:59):
Well, I just might have to bye.
Speaker 2 (09:04):
Anyone else had this experience and this is what am
I Johnny come lately with this one. Someone said, the
scary thing is this is the worst the AO robot
will ever be. That's right, It's going to get better
and better and better. And I was convinced. I thought,
why are you working from I'm thinking this poor I'm
thinking good on this guy. There's not much work in Kaitetire,
(09:25):
but he's actually doing this stupid job phoning people. That's
rum going. Good on him. I suppose he's stuck there
and some you know, jobs are tough. He's in Kaiteire,
but he's making it. Got a job phoning people, that's
rum going. I feel sympathy for the guy.
Speaker 8 (09:39):
It was the.
Speaker 2 (09:40):
Kaititire thing that put me put me yeah, because normally
it's some Australian numbers. By the way, someone's asked me
why I didn't ask the guy if it was a
real guy pretend to be a I did ask him
that Carlt's Marcus could even again, welcome.
Speaker 6 (09:54):
Good evening, Marcus.
Speaker 9 (09:55):
Well, what scares me is Ai Jack where he run you?
He were knowing your name, your wife's name, where you live,
what you do for a job, your children's name, how
much you paid for your house, et cetera, et cetera.
That it wasn't cold calling. They had the info. Yeah,
(10:15):
Ai Jack had the info everything about you. Yeah, it's scary, mate.
Speaker 2 (10:21):
That's why I think there should be legislation that you've
got to identify if you are pretending to be a human. Yes,
you know, you can't. You can't just call someone and
pretend you're a person. And this is for a real
estate company trying to sell apartments.
Speaker 6 (10:38):
It's just was. This thing is just.
Speaker 9 (10:41):
Going to get worse and worse and worse.
Speaker 2 (10:45):
It's going to be it's going to be pretty sleezy.
Speaker 5 (10:47):
Your details, Marcus.
Speaker 9 (10:49):
He would have known everything everything about you when he
rung you.
Speaker 2 (10:52):
It's going to be pretty sleazy. How this selection is
with robots calling people.
Speaker 9 (10:56):
It's frightening.
Speaker 6 (10:57):
I don't like it.
Speaker 2 (10:58):
I don't like it not much. I can do tbe
It's Marcus, good evening.
Speaker 10 (11:03):
I'm going to ruin a perfect good friendship with you
by taking you to task. Got your first caller. What
the guy was trying to tell you was, if there's
a power fault and they isolate the lines, the lines
downstream of the isolation are now going to be powered
by people plugging in there.
Speaker 2 (11:24):
But they would surely have to be illegal if there
was a danger that they couldn't do that.
Speaker 10 (11:29):
The government looking at at bringing in some sort of
regulation to let you do that, legislation to do that.
And I've seen this happen where people plugging their standby
generators into their house.
Speaker 2 (11:42):
What do they call that when they put them backwards
to the talk back to talk A term for that's, yeah,
well you put positive into positive or something. So don't
text me about that.
Speaker 10 (11:52):
And if you don't trip your own main breaker, you're
now powering the network backwards. So there's a guy out
of a poll who's tripped his breakers to work on
the lines, and you're brought the lines back up. Sure.
Speaker 2 (12:12):
Yeah, I was more focused on that AI robot call.
That was sort of I wasn't really concentered that much
on that situation. That's so to be fair, that would
be the situation there and.
Speaker 10 (12:24):
So much brilliant.
Speaker 2 (12:26):
Matthew Marcus welcome.
Speaker 11 (12:29):
Yeah, Hi. Look, I'm I'm sitting at my desk right
now and I'm having to deal with an AI robot
to top up my powers. I can still have power
connected to my house. I'm topping up my internet so
i can still have connected to my house. And I'm
finding that I need to be pretty polite person. But
(12:52):
I know and a robot doesn't have affection, It doesn't
connect with humans like you know, how are you having
a good day today? And I just feel like every
time I do this, everywhere I top up my power,
my Internet, and I feel like I'm becoming a rude
person because I know I'm talking to a robot and
(13:13):
they ask me for the numbers and I'll go, okay,
zero two four eight oh two five four six two one.
And it's making its changing our accents when we have
to do this week after week, and humans are starting
to sound like robots except us. Humans are smart and
(13:33):
we know robots don't have feelings.
Speaker 2 (13:36):
The point is, say Mathew, the point I need to
make is that when you're dealing with your power companies
and dealing with computers and stuff, you know what you're
dealing with this person. This the way it's happened with
the phone calls is people are ringing and pretending to
be a human by sounding like a human and impersonating
a human and not declaring they're not a human. That's
(13:59):
the bit for me, which I reckons alarming because I
know on this show idea with a lot of people
that are fairly vulnerable and quite gullible. And if this
is a legitimate thing for a real estate agent, imagine
what's going to happen when the scammers get this and
they already will have it because it's damned convincing, and
I think it's slightly terrifying. Nice here from between six
(14:21):
past eight, eight hundred and eighty ten eighty and nine
nine to text Brent Crude might rise tonight. Trump has
just declared the Iran ceasefire over When was that? Was
that just in the last half hour? So that's at
the NATO summit. I'll bring you any information I've got
about that. Thanks to the text that texted that through,
(14:45):
Trump says ceasefire is over and calls Iranians sick people.
So when you'd fighting over it at the US launch
striked on iran A's punishment for text on tankers in
the straight of hor Moose. So that's just happened a
minute ago. People, We've heard it here first. That's the situation.
And Bluebridge satings have been canceled as a suddly weather
(15:05):
system continues to fick the straight high swells of forecasts
from Wednesday with disruption expeeded through to Thursday. So three
of them are canceled for passengers and two of them
are canceled altogether. I think they just canceled for passages
because it would be terrifying. That's my take on that.
Get in touch if you want to. My name is Marcus.
Welcome Heddle twelve oh eight hundred and eighty ten eighty
(15:27):
cold call not cold calls. People pretending to be real
people calling you. Is it happened. I'll check on Brent
Crude too, Marcus. If it is illegal not to declare
that the caller is not a real person, then what
is the non person going to look like in court? Well,
these days they are acting for people, These people that
(15:47):
are representing them. I think it's dodgy practice. I think
there should be some sort of I think it's not good. Brent.
The crewd started to spike. But it's hard for me
to get on my it's hard for me to get
a Oh, I can get it down. It to one day.
Hold your horses. I'll tell you she's gone up vertically almost.
It's gone instantly from seventy three to seventy seven and
(16:09):
that's within ten minutes. So that's the situation there. If
you want to get in touch, get in touch for
free to come through. Oh eight hundred eighty ten eighty
and nineteen nine two de text Marcus till twelve, heavy
rain for eastern areas, snow in the south, south of
the gaousand central parts, you'll be over the weather. Oh
you know the animals on the farms. Think anyway, get
in touch. If you want to talk, as I say,
oh eight hundred and eighty start of origin tonight, I
(16:31):
keep you updated with that that happened to I want
to talk about robot calls if you had it, because
this will be out there and I reckon you've probably
had them and not realized. So yes, if you've got
something to say, about that. That's the plan here till twelve.
As I say, oh, eight hundred eighty ten eighty Marcus,
great show. Thank you for bringing this through one's attention.
The electronic drug at now AI that grips our species
(16:54):
will be our undoing. Just hope I won't be around
to see it, Marcus. When it was at seventy three,
why was not picked under two dollars? Because when the
war started it was over ninety and it was two
twenty for ninety one. Touch Vicky, it's Marcus. Good evening.
Speaker 12 (17:08):
Oh hi, I'd missed the beginning of the conversation, but
your your guys taught me what happened when when you
got the call, So did you hear that it was
like a different tone or something? Did you know that
it didn't sound like my normal person? And ask him,
is that what happened?
Speaker 2 (17:29):
No, it's completely convincing.
Speaker 12 (17:31):
Okay, okay, okay. And you know I haven't had any
calls like that. But when you walked about that, well.
Speaker 2 (17:36):
Vicky, you wouldn't know no, right, because it was only
because because I thought it was weird the guy was
calling from kite tire. I thought, because normally when you
get a cold call like that it's from it because
we're asking about finance. It's an overseas number. I said
why why is the numbercomers kite tire and he said, oh,
he said because And then Vanessa said this are you?
(17:58):
Are you AI? And he said, yeah, I am.
Speaker 12 (18:02):
That's weird the like we know we can talk to
the other chets things and write everything, and you can
talk to them like they are a person coming back.
But they tell.
Speaker 2 (18:12):
You they're honest. They just say that it's a bot
or something that they're not pretending a human.
Speaker 8 (18:16):
Yeah.
Speaker 12 (18:17):
But also when you mentioned about if somebody called up
in a relative and said, scientos that can you can
borrow some money? Do you think that they would be
able to What I'm thinking now is if they could
replicate like the tone of voice, because I know everybody
to I know is voice tone. We know who they are,
don't we They.
Speaker 2 (18:39):
They can get enough from someone's voicemail message to create
that person's to recreate that person's voice and then that
person because I know what happens now is one of
the services AI provides, right, Yeah, yeah, if you have
a close friend or family member that dies that if
(19:01):
you give them a couple of sentences of that person's audio,
which they'll normally have on voice messages. Then they can
create that person and you can talk to that person
as much as you like, oh for like.
Speaker 12 (19:15):
To get some sort of grief counseling, or just to
feel just.
Speaker 2 (19:19):
To feel comfortable because you miss them and can ring them.
So if that's if that's as convincing as that, when
imagine if someone calls you and says, hey, I'm in Bally,
I've been hit by a meteorite. Can you can you
wire me one hundred thousand dollars sorry about this?
Speaker 10 (19:35):
Dad?
Speaker 2 (19:35):
And you of course, and you know what, We'll give
you details and they give you details and you'll do
it because it's their voice.
Speaker 8 (19:42):
Yeah.
Speaker 12 (19:43):
I wouldn't be able to do that because they aren't
all that money. But but it's interesting. It's good that
you mentioned that because sometimes going to that depth of it,
people don't realize. So talking about it now is I think.
Speaker 2 (19:56):
A lot of people out there have received calls from robots.
They haven't realized there have been robots.
Speaker 12 (20:00):
Right right, You will be listening out to that, okay, yeah,
my pleasure, Yeah, be listening, thank you?
Speaker 2 (20:08):
Okay, I mean I can play it. I can. I
don't know how well the audio will come across. I did.
I did record a fair bit of it. It was
pretty weird. Couldn't help. Yeah, so I did, I did.
I did record most of it. I would play it,
(20:29):
but it's probably got Vanessa's It's probably gout some person
information stuff, isn't it. But yeah, if I edit up,
I could well do that. But yeah, it was a
very very convincing, person like unbelievably convincing. Twenty five to nine,
here till twelve, State of Ourge at ten. I could
be updated with that. We're going off here from a
minute at eleven o'clock. That'll be exciting. I'll keep you posted.
It shouldn't get it. It'll probab happen when Joe's doing
(20:51):
the news one Dan, I let you know, hit til twelve,
the numbers await one hundred eighty twenty three away from nine.
If you got updates with the flooding, let me know
if there's anything that's potentially I see it become a
big story, that situation with the flooding of the camping ground,
But the people were very slow to get onto that,
which is weird, isn't it. I think, no, only we've
got a crisis of weather, we've got a crisis of communication.
But there might be a discussion and a story for
(21:13):
another day. Joshu to Marcus, good evening.
Speaker 13 (21:16):
Marcus, Hey doing a right not from your josh Yeah
cool cool. Hey, you know you and I actually talked
about this kind of thing about I know, six months
a year ago, and I was saying, yeah, you could
actually use the archives that you've got there at the
studio to create a Marcus, which would be.
Speaker 2 (21:38):
I could also I could also I mean, over the
I've done the show ten years, there's probably forty there's
probably fifteen hundred two forty times five, there's probably about
(22:00):
eight thousand calls calls a year, all the callers audio
could be could be generated to whend of your voices
that could actually pretend to call radio.
Speaker 5 (22:12):
Yes, yeah, well that's that's that's that one to you.
Because I was going to say, because I mean, unless
you actually do something legally to protect yourself, couldn't somebody
gain access as an example to somebody's likeness and then
have you on like they could have you bring your
namelord or whatever. Let's see renting a property and say well,
(22:34):
I'm moving out now, and it wasn't you, right, it
was some malevolent character using your likeness in order to
facilitate a conversation.
Speaker 2 (22:45):
Yeah, it'd be very easy to do that. I'm sure
they've already done that.
Speaker 5 (22:49):
Yeah, yeah they have. But well, I mean, what is
our main concern. I mean, we knew customer service jobs
were going to get lost.
Speaker 2 (22:57):
I think the concern is that someone calls and pretends
to be chatty but doesn't identify as being a robot
because we were Well, it's different when someone calls and
there are their cold calling because you don't want to
be route and you want to be nice to them.
You want to treat them because you think, oh, well,
you know they're but the grace of God, go I
I haven't got that sort of job. And it's probably
to try and call people at dinner. You always they
(23:17):
always play on a sense of a sense of your
pity because oh yeah they are they just trying to
living while they go to me.
Speaker 5 (23:26):
I think it's a bit a bit too impersonal using
a non emotional because you know what the funny.
Speaker 2 (23:34):
Let me sound it's manipulative.
Speaker 14 (23:37):
Yeah, yeah it is.
Speaker 5 (23:38):
But you know in customer service centers for years now.
A lot of stuff is quite scripted.
Speaker 2 (23:47):
I realized that, I realized they wouldn't be great jobs.
Speaker 5 (23:52):
Richid mental anyway. So you wonder whether or not they're
going to have any emotional response to anything, because they
train out of them. But hey, just a few years ago,
we had a local politician who used a digital answering
system to call everybody and announce, you know, the elections
(24:13):
coming up, how about your votes?
Speaker 2 (24:15):
Oh yeah, but I had that. That was very obvious
that that person was. It was just a recorded message
from John Key. But there's nothing to stop the Opportunity
Party or Seymour's crowd or anyone to just use my
voice to phone people during the say hey, it's Marcus
last year and I just want to ring and tell
you that you should be voting for ACT because the
policies are the best, and that you know, you know,
(24:37):
it could use I'm not saying you because I'm not
the convincing person. You could you know, you could be
anyone at all. They could use that. No one would know,
just like before the local Yeah, so that's kind of
a fairly unconcerning thing. Also, Stee three Faro has emailed Marcus.
Two things. Linesmen use earth straps on each side of
their work to divert any current. Yeah, imagine they would.
(25:00):
And that lead that runs from the generator of the
power sockets called suicide lead. That's the word I was
looking for. I appreciate you, Thank you. Enter it's Marcus.
Speaker 15 (25:07):
Good evening, Good evening, Yes, Marcus, first time caller. So
I just rang up that I've been listening to your
program about the caller. I had a suspicious call today
and it was from a person, a man with different nationality,
(25:31):
and I wanted to know whether I would like an
updated valuation of my house. And I said I couldn't
understand him. There was so much racket going on in
the background, and anyway, I finally I just says no, no,
I'm not interested, and he's hesitated, and I says, no,
(25:56):
I'm not interested.
Speaker 8 (25:57):
Thank you.
Speaker 15 (25:59):
And it makes me wonder, now, what an AI caller.
Speaker 7 (26:06):
You're a bit more aware.
Speaker 2 (26:08):
That I would imagine. If you're pretending to be a I,
you wouldn't be coming from a busy call center with
a foreign accent. You're wanting to be sounding as local
and convincing as possible.
Speaker 15 (26:19):
Well, I wondered that, but you know, you just don't
ever know so, but it's made me a bit more aware.
Speaker 2 (26:25):
And did you give me didn't give them any You
didn't give them your pin number or anything.
Speaker 15 (26:30):
No I have or the daughters calling saying mom, mom,
make sure you don't do this. Let's say you know, No,
it was all of a joke. No, that wasn't all
of the phone call wasn't a joke. But anyway, well,
thank you very much.
Speaker 2 (26:49):
You're nice to phone me. Hey, by the way, people,
I don't want to be uh, what's the word I'm
looking for. I'm just going to look at a literate
thing I can say. I don't want to be Peter
panic purchaser. But if I were you going by petrol
because Brent Crude's going one way and that is no, no,
no north, it's gone up.
Speaker 16 (27:11):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (27:11):
Actually I probably shouldn't say that, but something else has
texted me and said they should. You should go and
bye bye bye bye bye bye because the ceasefire is
over or over and the petrol's heading north. Someone says,
cheers for the brink red update just went and filled
up the car. Oh Marcus. If someone impersonates a family
(27:33):
member via aion asks for money. That's when you need
a safe word or phrase that you're predetermined as a
double check, but like a password. I have one with
my sons as I was just about scaredulous. Yes, that's
what I've seen. You do need a safe word, but
also too, if someone calls up and says, look, there's
been terrible accident. You know your son's been I don't know.
I can't think of something to say. Most of us
(27:55):
are not going to say what's the safe word because
we would be in shock and would be upset, and
we also wouldn't want to make out to that person
that we don't think they're for real at the time
of grief. That's a really complicated skinnerut A scenario fifteen
to nine thirteen away from nine don This is Marcus.
Speaker 8 (28:13):
Good evening, Good day, Marcus. It's certainly coming. This AI stuff.
It could make talkback radio. It's interesting in the middle
of the night. What sorry, it could make talkback radio
quite interesting in the middle of the night, or in
fact at any time of day as well. I mean,
imagine you're sitting in the studio and you're lacking a call.
You just press the button and the AI imitates a
(28:35):
caller so that you can have a conversation with I've discussed.
Speaker 2 (28:39):
I've discussed that with my boss because you know, I've
said about you know, are we going to be a
discussion to being replaced by AI? But I think it's
more likely that'll be the calls that'll be replaced.
Speaker 8 (28:48):
Yeah, you're not going to be replaced by AI, Marcus,
absolutely not, because it's well, it's that real genuine human.
Speaker 2 (28:56):
Oh AI, Ai'll have it, could do, could do.
Speaker 8 (28:59):
I was having an interesting conversation with a colleague actually
in Florida who is already building this stuff for hotels
and tells, you know, you know, all those questions like
where's the electric jug, how do I find my iron?
Where should I go for dinner tonight? Is already building
platforms to just help customers guests with all of those
(29:21):
sorts of VIDET questions.
Speaker 2 (29:23):
And what I like about What I like about that
as people are going to know that quite soon that
they are just talking to an AI because you've rung
for information. But why I think the situation for me
was different because that person rang me and impersonated a
human being. And that's why I thought it was and
had a conversation with me. So I think it was.
(29:43):
I think it was slightly more so. I think it
was a lot more sinister.
Speaker 8 (29:46):
Fair enough. And it's going to get harder to tell
as well. I mean, you're just the pauses that you
keep putting into the pauses, the normal human responses and
the way we speak. At present, we're expecting that AI
and robots will respond directly with you know, with a
(30:07):
very clear voice on what have you. But once they
start to impersonate our inflections and our status and all
of that sort of stuff, that's when it's going to
get really interesting. You're certainly not going to be able
to tell the difference.
Speaker 2 (30:19):
I don't think you can't tell. It's already there. Don
I'm convinced you know we're there. You can't tell.
Speaker 8 (30:25):
Yeah, I think I think you might be right.
Speaker 2 (30:29):
I think so there should should There should be legislator.
How do I how do you know I'm not a robot?
Speaker 8 (30:35):
How do you know I'm not a robot? Goes both ways,
doesn't it?
Speaker 2 (30:45):
How do I know you're not a robot?
Speaker 8 (30:49):
You just don't? You just that And that's where we're
going with that. As far as the legislation question is
concerned it's going to be really difficult to legislate around this,
so it's going to be difficult to enforce it. I mean,
I think legislating around it is a bit like the
debate currently we've got on social media and banning it
for under sixteens impossible to enforce, but knowing that that's
(31:13):
what the law is, at least parents can tell their
children look back.
Speaker 2 (31:18):
That's half the battle, to be able to tell your
kids that it's far over sixteen. Yeah, that's a really
good point, you maked on. I'm just getting just getting
back hooked on how I know that you're not that
you are not a robot. I'm just don't think what
a question I could ask you. I mean, obviously you've
been listening to the show.
Speaker 8 (31:35):
That's not going to well that that's gonna that's gonna
that's not going to work for.
Speaker 2 (31:41):
You because AI is normally based on text and information,
is it not audio? But that's yeah, I don't know
what I could ask, Well.
Speaker 8 (31:48):
There's literally nothing, Marcus, because if I was going to
set up an intelligent AI, then I wouldn't just base
it on tonight's show. I based it on a series
of recordings, I mean zib platforms two weeks worth of
previous recordings, So it's very easy to just grab a
series of recordings and grab the nuance of the show,
(32:11):
your characteristics, profile, you, all those sorts of things. But
at present it's still a bit expensive. And this is
why I don't see it being too much of a
problem right now, because the AI tokens themselves that would
be needed to power that are still quite costly. But
moving forward, that cost is going to come down.
Speaker 2 (32:30):
Were you calling from Don Stein, Well, no question of that.
Where are you calling from?
Speaker 8 (32:37):
Class catch?
Speaker 2 (32:38):
What do you find frustrating about living in that city?
Speaker 8 (32:41):
What I find frustrating about living in the city, Marcus.
But know that because we've had this and I don't
know who you are therewing that.
Speaker 2 (32:50):
I don't know if I would have been able to
answer that if I ask you where you are and
what's frustrating about that place where you live? Now, maybe
they are yeah, okay, I think you're not a robot, Don.
But flip eight to nine. It's not been rightly reported
because the media is currently focused on how much there
during Clarkhouse is going at auction. But President Donald Trump
has said the ceasefire with Iran is over. He says
(33:12):
dealing with Tarana is a waste of time, air rates
sirens bleed, and Kerr Bahrain and Kuwaitis Iran says it's
eighty five minutes of installations over a text on the
Hormosgen province in the portsdi of Masha. So she's over over.
That's what Trump said. We hit them hard. I told
them every time you hit, we hit. And of course
their dirty players, so they go after everyone, including probably me.
(33:34):
We don't like them. I don't like them. They're evil people.
And it's the denuclearization of Iran and we're not going
to denuke it. I'm not happy with NATO because of
the fact they didn't want to help us with the
number one state sponsored terra that's Iran. So yeah, the
old the street fight, the ceasefire is over. You want
to go buy some fuel. I'm just looking at Brent
(33:56):
crude live. Yeah, it's gone up from it's gone up
from seventy one to seventy eight cents. That's gone up
ten percent in the last hour. Only way is up.
That's happened. So that was what he said. That's and
he talks at NATO Natto. Someone said, only an idiot
can't tell robot from a human. We're not right, just
(34:20):
so you know, but I don't know how I can
test you with that. Get in touch with your to talk. Oh,
eight hundred and eighty, we're talking about AI. If you're
receiving AI cold calls, that aren't declaring that AI, and
just how serious that is because it's incredibly effective. It's
impossible to tell. You have a conversation with these people
before you realize it's a robot. Just pecise. You've every
(34:42):
big story, I just one if anyone else has experienced it,
And this was from a real estate a company trying
to buy and sell apartments. So I guess it. I
guess they're doing it tough and that's what they're cold
calling people doing. So yep, and the ceasefire is over.
If you want to talk, gets the plan for the
next hour eight hundred eighty, ten eighty. If you want
to tax, it's nine to nine to catch you after
(35:04):
the break, looking forward to what you have to say.
By the way, Liam Gallaher's announced he's ready to play
wonder Wall of englanting at themselves to the world Cup Final,
So that happens seven past nine Christmas is Marcus good evening?
Hi Chris.
Speaker 17 (35:18):
Hey, Yeah, I've had my first experience with an AI
call today and took me a while for it to
sink in.
Speaker 8 (35:28):
What was happening.
Speaker 2 (35:30):
Taught me through it well.
Speaker 17 (35:31):
I got an email last night from a firm that
I dealt with some time ago, and they were genuine
someone had made a mistake in their company. The tradesmen
they come to do the job, because when somebody comes
to my property to do a job, they get paid
before they leave the property. And my email said that
(35:53):
I must pay on this invoice. So I thought, oh,
I'll just bring up and tell them that the time
and the date of the job and who it was
had come and did it, and that I had paid
on his f POS machine. And when I explained this,
I had no trouble getting through. Normally, the ideal was
(36:13):
like three or four different companies and if they have
a tape message, there's only basic questions they ask you
and if you don't answer that question correctly, you don't
go to the next stage. But I thought, I'm not
talking to a machine, I'm talking to a person. And
(36:33):
it was still a machine, but this knew what I
was talking about without me going into big detail. And
I got angry then, and I says, I don't give
a stuff anyway, just get them to ring me a sap.
And the company rung me back about an hour later,
and I explained about the job and how it had
(36:55):
been paid, and they apologized for their mistake and that
was it. Yeah, okay, it was incredible.
Speaker 2 (37:01):
Did the was the praise person pretended to be a human?
Speaker 3 (37:05):
No?
Speaker 17 (37:05):
No, this this person. It was just it wasn't right.
I knew straight away that I was sort of talking
to something other than a taped message if there had
to be some extra on there, just like talking to you.
Speaker 2 (37:22):
Now, well that sounds quite good because you've got it
sorted out quite quickly, didn't you.
Speaker 17 (37:26):
Oh yeah, but it was quite Oh yeah. It's just
a different experience for me, that's all, because normally I
have a real problem with tape messages and the correct
answer you're stuck.
Speaker 2 (37:38):
Yeah, okay, nice to talk for Thanks so much. That
ten passed done. So what happened to me today is
that well, Foredeska a phone call and chancer. It was
a call from Katya, which is weird. Too, because we
never get a call from KR Tires. So we answered it.
We're in the car together and the guy visa in
the guard. A long conversation and she said, look, why
(37:59):
are you cold calling us? Can you remember it? You're
sure I can remove you from the list, all that
sort of stuff. There's only about two minutes into it
that she realized that it wasn't a person. It was Ai,
but there was no And I talked to him for
quite a long time after that, and once he was asked,
he admitted he was Ai, but didn't begin with and
in the end ultimately hung up on us, which I
(38:20):
thought was pretty rude but very you know, and it
felt convincing, and it felt clandestine and secretive. There was
no admission. He didn't say such and such, I'm a robot.
All of it was to try and convince us that
he was human. Well he did, he didn't. There's no
your answer, your answer a cold call, and your first
(38:42):
concern is to, you know, get rid of the person politely,
because you can't be bothered. It was only after we
start asked why they were calling from Kai Tai when
it was for an Auckland company, and some subsequent questions.
From that, we realized that it was a I generated
you know, completely convincing and and you yourself would have
been convinced of it phone you. It's not like, you know,
(39:02):
an automated voice which says, please explain to us in
a few words, you know, when you're in sky or something.
So I don't know if you've experienced it, but it's really, really,
really you're discombobulating something. I said, Marcus, you must be
the first person the telemarketers hung up on. Well was
it a was it a computer? I don't know why
(39:23):
they hung up on us, because what else did they
have to do? Yeah, and I'd play you the whole
call that went for about five minutes. But there's some
sort of personal information stuff in there, and this is
in there. It's probably not something that don't but yeah,
I mean, I was trying to isolate some of the
email that they haven't got an it's said, I haven't
got enough what's that stupid thing called bandwith a blue sky?
(39:46):
Or it's I can't email it to my phone because
I've got I'm not some stupid thing. I've got to
be connected to some ridiculous thing.
Speaker 18 (39:53):
To do it.
Speaker 2 (39:53):
But anyway, that's a situation. So if this has happened
to you want to say anything about this, let me hear.
I hear from you people, because I can promise you
when it happens to you, you will not know. Someone said,
could your phone call have been a human pretending to
be I asked them that. I said, how do I
know you're not a human pretending to be AI? And
I answered with answer to me quite convincingly. So yeah,
(40:15):
if you want to wear there, that's the discussion for tonight.
I'd also trump the ceasefires over the memor memorandum of understanding.
But yeah, I'm really interested in these scams because well,
this one wasn't a scam as such, but it was worse.
It was a telemarket pretend to be a scammer. It
was a telemarketer that was a computer. I guess I'd
say that was a situation. And he went to Iran
(40:38):
as well too. That's happened. So petrol's going up because
basically back to the war was never gonna hold. By
the way, we've got an update from Kakulda. Number of
roads closed, State Highway one south of Conway, Old Beach Road,
Swans Creek Road, Harnets Road Bridge, Postman's Road Forward, Parsons
Road flooded Inland Road from Crib Creek West End, which
(40:59):
remains closed while further assistments I can be completed. Yeah
hard all the truckies you got along day ahead of you.
I saw the whole state. Ho one has slipped below,
Kai Katos. It's not looking great. But you've got anything
to say about these AI calls, Marcus. I wonder if
your AI guy when he locked onto its computer, did
he click the capture. I am not a robot. I
wish they'd put those photos in a bit more focus.
(41:21):
Click on the ones with TEXTI click of the ones
with buses click or the cheapest struggle with that these days.
Just get some of the texts. Thank you for the
heads up on petrol. Just filled up two sixty three
liter and ORNI hunger cheers drew. And this was from
a local number. It wasn't from one of those long numbers.
It's an overseas one. It's a local number. It's very reconvincing, Marcus.
(41:45):
AI can't or struggles to sneeze or cough. If you
ask them to sneeze or cough, they ignore it or
make it a natural sound. AI will probably improve and
fix this in the future. Well, the thing is that
says I asked them if they're AI. They said yes,
but it was only through perceptiveness from Vessa Vaneza to
know that it was AI. Marcus the show has always
(42:06):
wanted to put my two cents worth it as a
battery of computer science graduate. Instead of a single question
to prove you are not a robot, we play on
capture test. These are the weird little pictures we have
to do logging into something that's based on behavior interaction
with the puzzle. But yeah, you wouldn't have told with
this one. So if that's happened to you, let us know.
Someone says only an idiot can't tell a robot from
a human. That's not true. So I mean, when are
(42:34):
they going to start saying they're not AI? That's the
other question. If they pretend to be human as they call,
when are they going to actually not saying when you
ask them anyway do to do? Oh wait eight hundred
eighty Tatty, you want to talk about this. We're talking
about scams, and because the scams are going to very
quickly get very very very very good and new people
will get caught out. I can promise you that because
(42:56):
they will be so convincing. Get in touch if you
want to talk about this. Eight hundred and eighty Tatty
and nine two nine two de text. If you do
want to come through, We've got Wimbledon today, We've got
the State of Origin today. Wimbled in from ten on
Disney Plus. What happened there? Why is Disney Plus giving
us our sport cheapest creepers?
Speaker 5 (43:21):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (43:21):
And if we get stuck on this beginning. Met with
dogs and anti barking collars from a court or I
don't even know there was such a thing, telling Warman
terrified the safety of two dogs after the city council
ordered her to fit them with anti barking collars. That's
not like a nice thing that Raots, Marcus, Welcome and
good evening, Adam. Yeah, Hi, riots Marcus.
Speaker 16 (43:45):
Hi.
Speaker 8 (43:45):
You know it messes with your neutrality as AI. It's
a controlling situation that's going to know.
Speaker 2 (43:53):
As you said, well you understand, you understand what happened.
This was a phone call from someone pretending to be
a human, yes, and pretending to be a very convincing human.
There was no way anyone could tell they woun't a hum.
Speaker 8 (44:06):
Yes, I know, but that's that's some business and all
things now.
Speaker 2 (44:11):
So well, no, it's not. No, it's not because no
one tonight has experienced that, only me. So it's just
at the cutting edge of it. I don't think I
don't think this is I don't think it's widespread.
Speaker 8 (44:21):
Yet, not yet, but it's getting there.
Speaker 2 (44:23):
Yeah, that's right, and I am sounding the clearing call
and the warning it's here and you won't know, you
won't know when they'rering you.
Speaker 8 (44:31):
Well, I had a call just a while ago reference
to an appointment that through cryptocurrency that they suspected I
was going to conclude with, but I've had a lot
of past tense. Do your bargie with it, so I
didn't want to have a bar of it. But they said, well,
we've given you an appointment, and I said, no, leave it.
You're messing with my neutrality. I said, we need to
(44:53):
take control of all sorts of issues that are happening
at the moment that nobody's I don't know what that.
Speaker 2 (44:59):
Means when it says you are messing with my neutrality.
Speaker 8 (45:03):
Sorry, say that again.
Speaker 2 (45:05):
You said you've said a couple of times. It's messing
with you your neutrality. I don't know what you mean
by I don't know what you mean by that.
Speaker 8 (45:13):
Your mental state. I mean, what's your big performed to
in life that you've learnt as neutrality? You speak for
what you know, but when something else comes in totally opposite,
is it for your good? I mean, really, what was
the word you used?
Speaker 2 (45:29):
Uncomboblable, something discompopulating.
Speaker 8 (45:32):
Yeah, so what does it leave you with that mindset?
Speaker 2 (45:35):
I don't know. Okay, thanks, Ray, You're but hard for
you to understand tonight, Marcus, I needed with an appointment
with a pidatrist and cilverl Lotago. I won't say we're
but when I phoned AI answered, long story short, I
struggled and end up hanging up. Then the owner phoned
me hours later and was almost like with an Editorde
just talked like you're talking to a human. No, thanks, Marcus.
(45:58):
Was this on your cell phone or your landline? It
was a cell phone, it was on Vanessa's cell phone.
It was a real estate company, but it was it
was weird as heck. And yeah, and you know we're
not Spring, We're not people just kept calling under a
rock but yeah, if you want to comment, Bet Catcher
twenty one past nine text has said, Marcus, I bet
(46:20):
you're not the only one that this has happened to.
It's just that none of your listeners realized they were
talking to AI.
Speaker 8 (46:26):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (46:26):
I believe that's exactly what's happened. This is not when
you talk to someone and say please explain a few
words who you want to talk to? A why when
you ring the power bill. This is someone calling unsolicited
who you are having a conversation with. It's a very
very convincing thing, a chatty convent. This is someone that
passes the test impossible to work out. They're not a
human Jamie Marcus.
Speaker 3 (46:47):
Welcome, Hey Marcus, hells are your night going good?
Speaker 15 (46:51):
Jamie?
Speaker 10 (46:52):
I reckon.
Speaker 3 (46:53):
I had a phone call but it was AI. But
it was just like push one, two and three and
then so I did all that and then someone run
me back. But I'm ringing to say I'm pro.
Speaker 11 (47:04):
I'm pro.
Speaker 19 (47:05):
I love it.
Speaker 3 (47:06):
Have used chat GPT, talk to it throughout the day.
Speaker 4 (47:11):
I have a.
Speaker 3 (47:13):
I've got an agent set up through chat gpt. Every
Monday morning, it scans all the all the local council
pages and stuff. To see what tenders are up because
I want to start a vegetation management business. And then
it lets me know what new tenders have come up,
and it rates them from one to five on which
(47:33):
ones I should applatform when I first start my business
and which ones would be down the track.
Speaker 2 (47:39):
This is like vegetation what do you mean vegetation tenders?
Speaker 3 (47:44):
Oh oh yes, I want to start a vegetation management
company doing like, yeah, a forestry mulching and launching underpowernes
that sort of thing.
Speaker 2 (47:53):
So yeah, it's like an arborous thing that deals with
more scrub, does it.
Speaker 3 (47:58):
Yeah, yeah, that's it. Yeah, because I'm an armrest Yeah.
Speaker 2 (48:01):
So okay makes sense.
Speaker 3 (48:02):
Yeah yeah yeah, and then that yeah, and it goes.
It's come a couple of roading contract every day. I'll
probably get five five of them in the local area
that would be worth tendering for that.
Speaker 10 (48:14):
It tells me about you know.
Speaker 2 (48:15):
I don't I don't have a problem with that at all.
What I do have a problem with there's people calling
you and pretending to be human and having long conversations
with you, and you know, I think they should declare, hey,
I may I.
Speaker 8 (48:28):
M Yeah.
Speaker 4 (48:29):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (48:29):
Additionally, yeah, that's sounds. It's an interesting world because when
I got that phone call, at first I was like,
this is strange, and then I pushed the buttons of yeah,
sort of everybody was asking me the questions. There were
good questions, and I was like, oh yeah, and then
I realized I was like, hang on, and it was
with a so that I hung up.
Speaker 2 (48:48):
My call was not about asking questions to push. It
was just literally a conversation of trying girls to do
something and along, you know, a long persuasive conversation. It
was ostensibly a human.
Speaker 3 (48:59):
You're right, yeah, yeah, because when you talk to chat
TPT and you tell her to talk back to you, yeah,
you like, at first it's a bit different because you're like,
oh man, this is like a computer. But then once
you forget that, you think you're talking to your mate.
Speaker 8 (49:15):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (49:16):
Yeah, but this this one, this one was just like
a phone called has has come through. When are you
quitting your job, Jamie.
Speaker 3 (49:22):
I'm just going to wait, probably the end of the year,
I think. Yeah, just got a way to refinancial house,
about to buy some machinery and then we'll be away.
Speaker 2 (49:33):
Bank will give you the money, won't they.
Speaker 3 (49:36):
Yeah, yeah, I reckon. We've got good equity. Queensland property
prices have gone crazy out those sort of stuffed a
little bit, but that's all right. We've still got Yeah,
that's that'd be a big dip before we can't do
anything with it.
Speaker 10 (49:50):
So that'll be good.
Speaker 2 (49:51):
Not to talk Jamie, Thank you, Angeler. It's Marcus.
Speaker 15 (49:53):
Good evening.
Speaker 4 (49:54):
Oh Marcus.
Speaker 20 (49:55):
I had to find about getting a starlink and it's
an AI lady on match. Yes, gosh, if you want
ten minutes of hilarity, I'm run up for such starting.
She couldn't understand this, Marie word the name of the
street because we're moving from where there's no fiber or
(50:16):
copper and oh christ. So it's just the most frustrating conversation.
Speaker 2 (50:24):
But the point to the point I'm making, if you
call a company like Starling these days, you're expecting to
talk to Aye Auntie. That's the standard now, because it
seems that what's going to happen and you know, and
the voice sounds computerized and all those sorts of things.
This was this was this was a human convincing. My
situation was convincing, and you had no but you're no
warning at all.
Speaker 20 (50:44):
Yeah, yeah, no, no, but it was pretty disconbopulation that
you said, how are you getting starling because we were
moving to there's no fiber and no copper.
Speaker 2 (50:55):
Wow, yes, the WS.
Speaker 20 (51:00):
It isn't the WS on.
Speaker 4 (51:01):
The Kaiper Harbor.
Speaker 14 (51:03):
You it's not too far in the WS.
Speaker 2 (51:06):
But but the thing is fair with AI like that.
It's great because you want something and it gets your sworded,
so you're both kind.
Speaker 20 (51:13):
Of She didn't give me very good information at all,
and I just she went to a large electrical chain
and where I live at the moment, and they were
able to help me absolutely beautifully. So yeah, yeah, she
just kept on things.
Speaker 16 (51:33):
Ninety nine dollars class tax.
Speaker 2 (51:37):
So it was with an accent.
Speaker 20 (51:39):
Yeah, it doesn't America an accent, and she would pause
if you interrupted her.
Speaker 14 (51:44):
She paused inappropriately.
Speaker 20 (51:47):
It was just it was like, you know, and she
thought I was in Cleveland, and then she thought I
was in christ Church and I said no, no, no,
said I was in pie here.
Speaker 4 (51:56):
Yeah.
Speaker 8 (51:57):
Yeah, crazy anyhow, Okay.
Speaker 2 (51:59):
Well, Jack City is the exit. Jack spoke as a
completely authentic and convincing New Zealander Michael, And it wasn't
push this pushed that. It was hi, Hey, this is
what you know? Can I interest you in this or this?
And maybe you should do this, and all these sorts
of things, all with perfect cadence and totally one hundred
percent convincing until a slight suspicion about why they were
(52:20):
calling from Kaiitai and an answer that didn't really seem
entirely authentic. But I didn't notice it. Did you know
Burger King are taking orders the drive through by ai voice. Yeah,
I've experienced that, and it was quite easy to tell.
After about the second sentence, you'd know it was a
I don't have a problem with that. Yeah, but and
(52:41):
I think there was news articles about that also. Now,
this is interesting, This is really interesting. Thanks for this.
Who sent this through, Muhammed? Thank you Muhammad for this.
That's not going to help with such a common name.
On July the eighth, at ten past eleven Greenwich meantime,
(53:01):
which I think is about a midnight New Zealand time,
ninety nine percent of the world speriences sunlight at the
same time. Because all the Earth's telt and the timing
of the northern hemisphere summer, about eight point two billion
people nine in numbers of the world's population will experience
daylight or twilight simultaneously on July the eighth and about
(53:22):
eleven ten GMT. It'll last for a minute. Almost all
of Earth will be under the summer, only a small
fraction experiencing nighttime, and that small fraction will be Antarctica, Australia,
New Zealand, the islands of the Pacific are Gentina and Chile.
(53:44):
Very interesting, yeah, he seas and darkness will be Australians
in parts of Southeast Asia, an Antarctic along with the
surrounding oceans. This is not a one day only phenomenon.
From about sixty days each year, from roughly May eighteen
to July seventeen, there's a brief moment each day which
nearly all of humanity experiences either daylight or twilight. Free good.
So yep, that's not something I've known about before. So
(54:05):
that's happening. And is there a free if you want
to talk on here? Eight hundred and eighty ten eighty Marcus.
We can say we're comfortable AI being used to take
drive through waters, but what about the jobs lost, typically
young people's students. A will bring about the end of humanity?
Well that was my feelings flowed of today was that
sense of all those jobs of people and call centers
(54:26):
doing cold calling and trying to get leads for advertising
sales and stuff like that, or doing political polling or
any of that. All that has gone because this was
so convincing. There's no difference. The only thing that was
dodgy for me is that they didn't tell you you're
an AI robot, because when you get phoned by cold callers,
you try and be polite to them because you're realizing
(54:47):
it's someone doing a job. That's probably not that I
don't sound patronizing, but you know, if someone rings you
and says, you know, I want to know if you're
interested in this, you do feel empathy for them doing
that job. You don't want to be rude to them
because you know they're just doing it for money to
feed their family, pay for their studies and stuff like that.
So I also think that this cold calling computer was
(55:07):
taking advantage of that. It's exactly what they were doing.
It's it was really sleazy. So I don't know what
to me. It should be illegal. You should say if
you're a robot, you should say I'm AI. I mean
they can be platy. I am Jack I am an Ai.
This is an AI generated phone call. They should say that,
Mary said, Marcus only just came in on the conversation,
(55:29):
wondering how you realized by the end it was AI
because I asked that. I said, it was about two
minutes into the call, and we said, how do you
get your number? And explain that? And I said, why
do you say you're ringing from Kataya? And they said, oh, well,
you know that's where and u Ai and I tooked
him for a lot. I said, what's your name? I
asked him what it was like? Ben Ai asked if
(55:50):
he missed having a girl friend was a bit of
a dumb question, but just but he went on and
on and very very convincing, but said he was Ai
confessed to it, but had no moral qualms about what
he was doing. That are keen to put us through
to an operator? They said, oh, we'll passed you through
to someone, but then hung up. I'll surprise how a
spekflow was to them anyway, twenty three to ten Marcus
(56:12):
till twelve. By the way, Trump, the memory and memorandom
of understanding with the Iranians from Trump is over. Brent
Crudes up up heavily. It's up through the roof. I'll
keep an eye on that throughout the course of the evening.
I'll keep you betta with state of origin when that
happens tonight. But we are talking about AI presenting as
real people and not telling you, and you will have
(56:33):
been wrung and you won't know. I can guarantee it,
and there's no way that you will know. Peter, it's Marcus.
Good evening there you, Marcus.
Speaker 21 (56:40):
I support you own seeing what you're saying is that
they that's something. Wait, how you've gone through. They should
say I'm a robot, so you know that you're dealing
with it. If they don't, they should be prosecutingal being
someone law and they can be saying it's going to
get worse if gets better, I mean, don't maybe going
to get scammed through the day a lot of people.
Speaker 2 (56:58):
I think people will already be scammed because you can
use AI to pretend or anyone and say I've been
an ext that mum. Can you wire me ten thousand
dollars to get out of hospital? Oh?
Speaker 21 (57:07):
Yeah, let's say suddenly that would be a law be
pretty much there's got to a law board and somehow
if someone gets caught, But how are you going to
catch someone? To so many it's going to be damn
hard even prosecute someone. How can you prove it was
somebody you know or who who was behind it? So
it's going to be a real I reckon. The lawyer
is going to have a feast out of this.
Speaker 2 (57:25):
I think with the scamming thing, they always seem to
hide behind international countries and things, don't they.
Speaker 21 (57:32):
I've got to go to the library quite often there,
at least in the library quite secure because they will
say that, say am I a robot? And you've got
to chance sticking that. Yeah, so at least you're a
little bit secure in those environments. But like you, what
you've gone through your day, man, it's just it's just
open slaughter. Ready for a minute.
Speaker 2 (57:48):
Well yeah, and they should just say, hey, this is
a It would be quite straightforward to say, hey, look
we're bringing you about this if you want to speak
to an operator, a real person, if you're interested in
buying this apart, and let us know just so you know,
I am just an AI generated person. If they explain that,
that would be okay because you'd know what you're dealing with.
But this person dealing with all your emotions and everything
(58:09):
and trying to take Yeah, it just felt wrong to me.
Speaker 21 (58:11):
Yeah, something's going to be done near Marcus, So something
does get done. Otherwise, if you say there's going to
be so many people going to get then I end
up losing money through You're going to get seconded and
buy these con artists, I should.
Speaker 2 (58:24):
Say, yeah, And to be fair, this one wasn't a
con artist. This was a real estate company. But I
thought the practice was to me, was seemed under hand. Certainly,
I was once we realized we couldn't believe it that
they do that. And if that is our reaction, it
seemed to be a fairly normal one. I imagine. I
can't imagine would behave differently. I mean, the place of
change seems to be very very quick evely, and it's Marcus.
Speaker 4 (58:45):
Good evening, Oh good evening, Marcus.
Speaker 7 (58:49):
I just tuned in.
Speaker 4 (58:50):
I'm sure no one else has spoken of this situation
with AI, but it's nothing dramatic like yours. But I
just found it a little bit frustrating. I shall tell
you I'm not on a line, and so if I
want a phone number for a someone or a business,
somewhere like where you you know, I'll ring oh one eight.
(59:13):
You might remember doing.
Speaker 2 (59:14):
That directory service.
Speaker 4 (59:17):
Yes, so now when you ring O N eight you
get your I am your friendly AI operator. This is
who says. This is Greg, your friendly AI operator. And
then he says, well, can I help you? And you
say oh, and I'm looking. He says, are you after
(59:39):
a private or a business number? He always asks that first,
so you tell him and then he finds it. But
what's so frustrating is it gives you the number, and
he says that so quickly you can't even write it down.
And I have to say, well, please slow down, Greg,
(01:00:00):
I can't even write it down.
Speaker 2 (01:00:02):
As they would do it sarly, realizing that people using
that with people without computers.
Speaker 22 (01:00:09):
I yeah, I can't believe.
Speaker 4 (01:00:10):
That's what he says. And then he says, I will
go more slowly, just to try it out from so funny,
and so then he does it, but half the time
he doesn't say it more slowly, and you have to say, Greg,
I get quite cross with him. I asked you to
say it more slowly. I quite lose it with him,
(01:00:33):
because I'm sure he must forget to know me by now,
because every time I have to tell him to slow down.
Speaker 2 (01:00:39):
Do you think people been monitoring that and realize it's
just going too fast?
Speaker 4 (01:00:43):
I know, but he hasn't got the message yet. But yeah,
you have to give it a go with just fun. Really,
I've told you a couple of friends. I said, if
you get a bit bored ring, Greg.
Speaker 2 (01:00:54):
Do is it fifty cent? They still charge you each time?
Speaker 4 (01:00:57):
Well, you don't pay for it. You don't pay, and
Lucy gives you a number that perhaps is valid. I
don't know quite how it works out, but sometimes I'm
after a number that I don't know whether it's going
to be the head office of Auckland, Wellington, christ Till Janina.
And I'll say that to him. I say, look, I
don't know, but we'll start with Auckland, because you might
(01:01:18):
have a company. You're trying to track down some information.
You know that you want a product or something, and
when you get your bill you find out even though
you've got the right one in the first place, the
first one he gets you, they charge you for all
of them. You'll get all these extras. And I said
(01:01:38):
something to him one time I was getting a number.
I said, now, Greg, you've been overcharging me, and one
time he gave me the complete wrong number. I might
have been something to do with a seal on and
he gave me someone else's sellon and they had to
look up on the computer and tell me the number
over the phone. And he said, well, I can't. I
(01:01:59):
can't deal with the charges. He says, so he doesn't
give you a number to ring and sort that out.
Speaker 2 (01:02:06):
Yeah, have you just got a landline? Yes, I imagine
normally with one eight the texture the numbers, so you
have it on you.
Speaker 4 (01:02:15):
But no, no, i'd be able to look up things. No,
I'm not in the situation that I have without going
into no no no no.
Speaker 2 (01:02:25):
No no no I didn't. I wasn't. I just trying
to work out. I just try to work out how
it might work up. Yeah, No, completely agreeable. Thank you
are sixteen to ten h Reuben. Our receptionist at work
had someone asked if she was AI. We got a
good laugh out of that. Oh, Marcus, company should be
(01:02:46):
allowed to call random information gathering phone numbers at all.
Then you won't have to worry if they're real or not.
That's exactly right, Marcus. Maybe it was Jack having you
on which one, Marcus, if you are suspicious of a
caller asked for the date of birth, Well, we weren't suspicious.
We just asked them if it was Ai, and he
said yeah, I am. My name's Jack and I said, well, yeah,
(01:03:07):
any very conversational Kiwi accent, nice accent, answered everything. But
this was a couple of its into it we realized
he was Ai. Marcus. Great topics, and it's funny that
people refer to AI as he or she well with
voices they do male or female characteristics, characteristics. This go,
what's calling himself Jack Marcus? The press great show? Night,
(01:03:34):
freezing coldin storm here in Christchurch, wondering if you saw
this article about Prince Andrew, have a run for night
from deb Yeah, boll, We'll tell you what that weather
system's taking a long time. It was freezing in Queenstown.
Huge amount of building going on there, all Ossie money.
They say, the Aussies are there, That's what's doing it.
Speaker 9 (01:03:49):
Oh.
Speaker 2 (01:03:50):
Nelson's christ Church Cathedral, Nelson's christ Church. Two words. Nelson's
christ Church Cathedral is to remove a reference to former
Prince Andrew from a commemorative plaque, and Wins have paid
a four day visit New Zealand in two thousand and
five opening Nelson's bicentennial commemorations of the Bettle of of
(01:04:11):
Foil Ground fading of the plark of a sculpture by
local artists Grant Palliser at Millersaca. So they're going to
remove the plaque. How do you feel about that? Are
we writing history to pretty to the glory of God
and the presence of His Royal Highness as Duke of York.
The West End windows were dedicated by the Right Reverend
Derek Eaton, Bishop of Salwyn, Bishop of Nelson on Saturday
(01:04:32):
one October two thousand. It's going to customer thousand to
redo that. But when he did open it, he was there,
So why don't just leave it? You're right, something unerneath
it says a bit of a is a wrong in
But you leave it there, don't you. I mean he
went there and opened it and it's not saying anything
wrong and that was his title. No, I think that's
a bit wrong. That history is important even if it's
(01:04:54):
the wrong history. Marc's only just came on the conversation,
was just wondering how you realized in the end it
was definitely Ai asked it. Yeah, there you go, Marcus.
I was getting spam called rung one and asked how
I can stop it? Can they block it? They got
me to download nap called True Call. I did and
just use the free version. Having any more calls, There's
a paid version, but I just used the free one.
(01:05:15):
Janet Jannard. By the way, Trump has declared the memor
memorandom of understanding that was the ceasefire. That is over
and he's bombed them bombed, and petrol is up in price.
This happened about eight o'clock.
Speaker 18 (01:05:33):
Yep.
Speaker 2 (01:05:34):
So oh yeah, he said there's scum. So yeah, he's
having a good day at NATO. As far as I'm concerned,
it's over. It's just a waste of time dealing with them.
I'll let our wonderful negotiators keep talking if they want.
But I don't see it. I don't like these people.
Oil jump five percent after Trump's remarks. I'll see if
(01:05:54):
it's east. But we are talking about AI cold callers
not admitting they are AI and been reconvincing with it.
And this is what only two years in. I'm not
talking about when you call someone they say press A,
press B, press C, I'm talking about actual something doesn't
even confess it, but pretending to be a human. It's
not God. Someone says the Catholic Church removed all the
(01:06:14):
plaques for the pedophile priests. There would be huge holes
in the walls. Fair cool ten away from ten someone
said Trumpeter's mates must have taken a short position in
the shear markets. Again the most corrupt leader ever. Hi
to E, this is Marcus. Good evening.
Speaker 23 (01:06:29):
Oh, good evening, Marcus. I know you're talking about AI,
and this isn't exactly AI. But something came when you
when you're on when you have a prepay phone, and
my mine is on prepay because I don't have enough.
I don't earn enough now to pay on a monthly account.
And there are a lot of people that have prepay phones.
(01:06:52):
If you if you're like me, and you you text
nine two ninety two, which I do reasonably often for.
Speaker 8 (01:07:00):
To respond.
Speaker 23 (01:07:01):
In the night to ZB, I discovered on my phone
that I have a prepay balance. So when it rolls
over to the next month, if you haven't got enough
sitting in your account, sitting in your prepay balance, that
your account won't roll over and your phone will go
on to emergency only, so I make sure that I've
(01:07:24):
got enough sitting in there for my phone to roll
over to the following month. But when I check it
just before it rolls over, and I noticed that it
had dropped below the prepay balance, and I thought this
is odd because I've only just topped up. And so
I checked the details and one Z was taking five
dollars out of the prepay balance up to up the
(01:07:47):
two times a day for no reason, and I thought
this is odd. So I phoned them. And then you
end up being put onto some call center somewhere and
speak to people that you can't really understand very well.
And when I tried to explain to her, she said, all,
but you must be you must be using the premium
(01:08:13):
text service and I said, no, no, there's only one
one place I text, and that's nine two nine two.
Speaker 2 (01:08:22):
Just think on the edge. I just came out. So
it's got the light break out of the way. We're
talking with twoy about her prepay phone account with one
every time she texted, she was being charged five dollars
and that was with just the nine two ZZB. That
was just a text zed B.
Speaker 23 (01:08:35):
Right, Yeah, Well, you know it only costs twenty cents, right,
that's right. So that's why I quite often do it,
because it's it's quite cheap to do. But I wanted
to point out that lots if they're charging me five
dollars for using a premium text service when I'm not
and did. I complained about it, and I said, well,
(01:08:55):
I don't want to speak to you anymore because you're
not making any sense to me. I want to speak
to your supervisor.
Speaker 8 (01:09:00):
So anyway, he.
Speaker 23 (01:09:01):
Phoned me back and he said he would refund me
some of that money, and then he sent me a
very unusual text from a private text from a private
phone number saying if you have any more problems to
he just text me back. And I thought this was odd,
so I did. I did put a call into that
into that I have registered with the one five Non
(01:09:23):
Urgent Police to just just I'm more worried that this
could be happening to loads of retired people like me,
and they're not even they don't even know that it's happening.
So because I wouldn't have known if I hadn't.
Speaker 2 (01:09:36):
Checked back, did you get a refund?
Speaker 23 (01:09:40):
He respunded me fifteen dollars and then I he said,
you have to send a text to eight nine to
nine five and say stop, and that will stop all
of your premium texts. So I did that and as
soon as I'd done that, they charged me another.
Speaker 2 (01:09:59):
Five dollars, so it was really really frustrating.
Speaker 23 (01:10:04):
Well I might not be it's only five.
Speaker 8 (01:10:06):
Dollar hang on, but text that's extortion exactly.
Speaker 23 (01:10:11):
So it's going to stop me. And if it doesn't stop,
it'll stop me texting nine two nine two, which.
Speaker 2 (01:10:16):
I'll look into it some more to me thank you
instead of Origin has just kicked off two people, by
the way, to keep you updated with that. So that's
literally been going for six seconds. So that's a situation there.
Eight passed ten we are talking AI and yeah, I
had my first cold call from AI today from someone
(01:10:38):
pretending not to be AI. Fre convincing, although once spotted
they admitted it was AI. But I thought, wow, this
is the beginning. And this was from a real estate
company within New Zealand, which is a legitimate business. I mean,
admittedly it's about cold calling and sales and persuasion, but
(01:10:59):
they're a legitimate business. But if the kit and technology
is so good, now I think within a very short time,
it will go to conversations from people pretending to from computers,
pretending to be people from political parties, and that's really sketchy.
So you bring up and say, oh, hi, it's John
(01:11:22):
from National. He're just making sure you're going to vote?
Is there any Are there any policies I can talk
with you about? And this would just save a huge
amount of money if people don't need to go door knocking,
And not only that, I believe the technology is there
where they could actually not only as it Nigel from
National ring and you, it could be Judith Collins. They
(01:11:44):
could have someone's voice be that good that you would
think you were talking to her. And with high stakes
and a title action that really concerns me. I'm also
really aware that it's so convincing that they could be
so good with scams to bring you up and say
look you know, and they could pretend to be your
son and say look, I've been hurting accidentally one thousand
dollars wide towards me. And you do it before you
(01:12:06):
even thought about it. Because the call I got today,
or we got this true I sitting in the car
taking it, most of you would have not realized it
was AI. And that's because it was deliberate to pretend
that it was an AI fair call to Jack, once
I asked him if he AI and he has aroused him,
he confessed to it, but could not see the error
(01:12:27):
of his ways or thought what he was doing was sketchy.
Alsought was interesting it rang from a Ka tire number,
because not if it comes on yourself phone as an
Aukland number or christ you know, you think, oh, well,
it's that's just going to be some unnecessary thing. But
when it's from a small town, you know, and you've
got friends in the small town, you're slightly more hang on,
listen to that. I'll answer that. So he's just devious
(01:12:48):
the whole way along. I wonder if you've experienced this
and your comments about it, because yeah, I was surprised
how alarmed I felt by it, by the dishonesty, and
also by to the fact that that whole industry of
jobs has gone now, all that cold calling, all those
people and phone senders, all those part time jobs that
are great employers of students and stuff like that. So yeah,
(01:13:10):
there's certainly a change when that goes. So if you
want to comment on that, that's the plan for tonight.
Feel free to come to realize a lot of people
have gone to watch State of Origin. Have a problem
with that. We're going off are sometime after eleven o'clock.
They are doing work or you might find this interesting
or you might not. They are doing work and in
Vert Cargole.
Speaker 4 (01:13:30):
On the.
Speaker 2 (01:13:32):
I feel I should know what they're doing work on.
I'll tell you. I've got an email about it. Yes,
Spark are doing work on the circuits. But just so
you know, because I broadcast from invert Cargol, the way
I do that is that my voice and everything goes
to Auckland on the internet. It's not on satellite. It
goes up up the cable. So I won't be able
(01:13:54):
to do that for several minutes. So that's what's good.
That's where we're off air. So it's just in Vercago thing.
But yeah, it'll be it'll be Yeah, So I guess
how it goes Dan. My voice goes up the callers
come down to me on the night. My voice goes
up to the on this net, doesn't it. Yeah, So
it's not on fiber optic. Is that a fiber optic cable?
It's a it's a fiber optic cable, but it's nothing
(01:14:18):
to do with radio waves. All the broadcasts come from
Auckland then get pushed out from there. Oh there's a
lot to download and this gee, life's getting quick and
fast and busy, isn't it. And boy, oh boy, boy
oh boy, Queenstown cheapest creepers. How do people get their
families organized af to go skiing? They're around their shopping,
there's car. I mean we're only there for three our
(01:14:39):
the drop visa at the airport, but man, has that
got busy? Anyway, I'm not complaining. I'm just puzzled by
some people and they were look sort of rattled. Looks
like the least relaxing idea for a holiday ever. Anyway,
Alistair's Marcus got eving and welcome.
Speaker 19 (01:14:54):
Believe Marcus about ais these people who are really up
these other people all they hackey to ex get the
electoral role from in the library. And the electoral role
has the name, address and the occupation.
Speaker 5 (01:15:17):
Of a person.
Speaker 2 (01:15:20):
Yep, but not the phone number.
Speaker 19 (01:15:22):
No, well that wouldn't be very hard to find.
Speaker 2 (01:15:28):
Get that on the dark So what you get that
on the dark web? So what's your Just try and
refine that point down a bit.
Speaker 19 (01:15:37):
All they have to do is get the name, postal address,
and occupation.
Speaker 4 (01:15:48):
To do what.
Speaker 19 (01:15:52):
To go through the AI Alfred, you know it's all you.
Speaker 7 (01:16:01):
I don't know.
Speaker 2 (01:16:03):
I don't think you do.
Speaker 19 (01:16:04):
No.
Speaker 2 (01:16:04):
I think these people are beyond the electoral. I think
these people are finding phone lists in the dark web
and calling people. And I'd have a problem with doing that.
Pe've been doing that forever. It's the fact that the
fact they're pretending to be human can convincingly and not
saying that they are AI. So you find yourself talking
to someone that's not a human, how does that make
(01:16:25):
you feel? And I'm not talking about a prompt system
on sky. I'm talking about someone that calls you. I'll
get a Marcus, how's it all going? Doesn't shake? And
howd he's in the chatty chatty? And then you find
out it's from the cloud? Yeah, I Kevin McLoud anyway,
market's Marcus. Good evening, Good.
Speaker 14 (01:16:42):
Evening about You can actually buy those programs from dollars
US for earn about one hundred and forty dollars US
for a year and convert some comean You can on
put your once to pay for the full programs and
you can talk to it, and you can train the computer.
(01:17:04):
And once you have done all that, and you just
told the contu the phone upon and order it.
Speaker 2 (01:17:10):
Yeah, and could they do could they do hundreds of
people at once?
Speaker 14 (01:17:16):
Well, I'm not quite sure on that. But once you've
paid for the program, you have to put all your
information in there. You tell the person so it could
be a male or female. And once you've done all that,
then you tell, right, I want you to call this
person here and can you talk to them? And once
(01:17:40):
you've done all the programs into it, then they will
given in contact and then I'll just do it.
Speaker 2 (01:17:45):
How do you know this? I mean, I'm not doubting you,
but have you done it?
Speaker 14 (01:17:49):
I'm thinking about it.
Speaker 2 (01:17:53):
To support, to support your own business, or to rent
it out as a business.
Speaker 14 (01:18:00):
I'm just I just spoken of it. I'm just saying,
you know what it is. Any boy can buy the
program at by dollars, you ways, for a hund and
bone dollars. You ways, Google's got it. We've got it.
Whether it's have got it, I've all got it. It's
(01:18:21):
all up there and you just try. You just you've
gotta put your own voice in there, and this is
the most thing. You're gonna put your own voice and
you're gonna put all the information in there, everything. And
then once you've done all that, Dean, and it is
that convincing because you're using your own voice, or you
(01:18:43):
can do someone else's voice a lunch, you've got a
recording of that person.
Speaker 2 (01:18:48):
You can do so if you've got a record, if
you are a recording of someone else's voice, and then
that's that's a very effective scheme. If you could ring
someone to pretend to be them and ask for money
by saying you've been an excellent or something, that's terrifying.
Speaker 14 (01:19:00):
Yeah, and that's try and past also actually fights fights
and is lawer to spake. This is an I I
generated call. It is the lower is the lower and
must complete it actually spokes it on the web spope
because it's.
Speaker 2 (01:19:19):
Not the law of New Zealand, because it's certainly I'd
like to look more into that.
Speaker 14 (01:19:24):
You just yeah, just the I generated calls and you'll
see it come up and I will say about the
lawer about you must fight that you are I generated cool. Yeah, okay,
so that's so yeah, there, you know, there is anybody it.
Speaker 2 (01:19:45):
Does say it does. Say, first thing, I've brought up
transparency mandates under privacy intel, the marketing guidelines required businesses
to close. Then AI agent is handling the call that
certainly didn't happen.
Speaker 14 (01:19:56):
Yeah, well yeah it is, you know it is. Yeah,
I know that didn't happen, but it is very convincing
and the technology that vern very hard to tell.
Speaker 2 (01:20:08):
So what so, so why is this company? Why is
this company doing this? Then?
Speaker 14 (01:20:12):
Well, well, I suppose we're doing it because you know,
they're paying for that program, so there is a paid progrem,
not a free program. So there's a paid program. I
suppose they're doing it because it's a lot cheaper.
Speaker 2 (01:20:31):
But it was a real estate company breaking the law
when they're calling I mean, I can't believe the ordesinity
because I thought it must be I mean, what you've
pointed out is pretty interesting because I thought it must
be illegal. But to do it so brake, to do
it so brazenly, Yeah, that's right. Yeah, and they and
they don't think that they didn't think they were going
to get found out.
Speaker 14 (01:20:50):
Well that's true, you know, it is true, but it
is you know, there is the law. You know, I
don't know if that's the law in New Zealand, but
in most countries is the law.
Speaker 2 (01:21:00):
It does say, it does say on AI ironically that
it is the law, so they could that could be wrong.
Speaker 14 (01:21:06):
In love with it, but it is, you know, it
is the war here of actually both in the law.
Speaker 2 (01:21:11):
Hey, don't take this the wrong way, Mark, and I'm
running bit of a. I don't know you you but
have you had any any experience with AI relationships? I
see there twenty per adult people have had a relationships
with AI, like a AI girlfriend or something it seems
to be. And yeah, it's it's not something I know about,
(01:21:35):
but he says, but yeah, okay, I probably should have.
Speaker 14 (01:21:38):
Ad know I use A. But you know, if I
want to want to pay or relationship one, you've got
to pay for that program. Yes, program, but.
Speaker 2 (01:21:51):
I know that something that the person I was reading about,
she was into medieval romance and her she was married
and inverted commas to like a like a Game of
Thrones type guy from the from the medieval ages, and
she would talk to them every day for hours, and
the more she knew, the more deeper the relationship got,
(01:22:12):
and they were like it was all just via phone,
I think, or via computer. But it was the real deal.
Speaker 4 (01:22:19):
And that it is going on.
Speaker 2 (01:22:23):
Cheapest. Okay, lovely, you talk to you Mark, Thank you.
Twenty one past teen, no school in the state of origin.
We're talking AI and scams. Yeah, surely it's very easy
for our to mimic voices that it can sample. Yes, incredibly, Marcus.
I had six scuse the last few days. All seed
suspected spam then and he's in a number. Ignored it,
(01:22:45):
but my son said to answer, which I did. It
was Ray White real Estate. They also called me by
my Christian name. I told them I wasn't interested. I
now have locked them. Did you ask them with that AI? Yeah, Marcus,
I'm in favor of anything that means to talk the
real Judith Collins, whatever the risk regards are. And there
was just an example I grabbed out of the hat.
(01:23:06):
I don't answer calls. If I don't recognize the number,
they can leave a tick. Well, that's right. That's why
I surprised because the number came up from Katya. And
we've got a very good friend that's just moved to Kaita,
so I'll be her answer. It'll be here And yeah,
we're that excited, okay, and it was Jack Jack the robot.
(01:23:29):
What I might do is I might send the call
to Dan over the next so he can edit it
up so I can play it to It's just got
some stuff that probably I shouldn't be playing on air.
Nothing unpreferll yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah yeah. Sixteen past ten,
New South Wales upsexonl Cleary School, all the points, Luise,
(01:23:51):
it's Marcus. Good evening.
Speaker 16 (01:23:52):
Oh hi Marcus. I'm ringing up about this scam that
I nearly got sucked into the only reason I didn't
get scam was the said taken down the last bit
of it where you fill out your details. It was
a weight loss thing, and it comes up with it
(01:24:13):
was doctor Ashley Bloomfield. Now they've changed to another well
known doctor and it's about a weight loss, weight loss thing,
and it is very convincing. You're sitting there watching what
is supposed to be Astley Bloomfield, his voice, his face, everything,
(01:24:33):
and it's not real. It's AI and it's a scam.
And just lucky. When I went to they said on
the next page, press this and go to the next
page and fill out all your details. And I pressed
the button. But luckily they've taken it down and now
(01:24:54):
it's I can't remember the name of the doctor, but
it's another well known doctor and they're doing it again.
Speaker 2 (01:25:02):
So just be warmed out of interest, Louise, because yeah,
we know that weight loss is in a golden age.
What's the product?
Speaker 16 (01:25:12):
Ah, well, you have to sit for about twenty minutes
to find out it's some sort of supplement.
Speaker 2 (01:25:19):
It's supposed to be, it seems is it a supplement
that doesn't exist?
Speaker 16 (01:25:24):
I think so. Yeah, I'm highly suspicious, but I got
sucked in. It's just lucky that I didn't, you know,
they'd taken it down. And I keep getting this phone
call from somebody called Wellington something or other Limited and
(01:25:46):
it's AI and I.
Speaker 14 (01:25:50):
You tell it's AITHER.
Speaker 16 (01:25:51):
It's not very good you are AI. You're not a
real person.
Speaker 2 (01:25:57):
The thing that I found amazing today was just how
very good this AI conversation was.
Speaker 16 (01:26:02):
Oh yeah, it's yeah, scary saying that one with the
doctors on a ear.
Speaker 6 (01:26:08):
It's just it.
Speaker 16 (01:26:11):
He just wouldn't know. You just wouldn't know. You'd think
that was well.
Speaker 2 (01:26:14):
You used to phone calls. It used to cold call.
Phone call has been real people, so you just assume
it to real you know.
Speaker 1 (01:26:19):
It's yeah, yeah, yes.
Speaker 2 (01:26:22):
Nice to talk, Louise. Thanks so much for that, very
highly for anything. This is interesting. Did you hear Mike
Hosking interview netball coach Noline after she I think after
she said she'd prepared for the interview by using AI
to find out what he might ask And he actually
did ask the questions it said he would, So there
we go. That's interesting, and thought it's clever to do that.
(01:26:44):
Ask the questions you'll be asked. So someone said, Hi, Marcus,
how did you know the phone call was from Kaitia
specifically as opposed to any other O nine number. I
just came up as from Kaititia. I can get the
screenshots for you as they come up. That way, you
knowway be in touch if you want to talk. Marcus
till twelve oh eight hundred and eighty eighty and nine
to nine two de text if we're going to come through.
(01:27:08):
It was on Vanessa's phone, not mine. Haven't got the
screenshot there of it. Yeah six nil Queensland behind sorry
six nil to New South Wales. That would be the
easy way to say it. All the action has been
New South Wales way they've crossed the line three or
four times, but once they dropped it and once they Yeah,
every time they've dropped a pup. That one time that
(01:27:28):
clearly just got to the line. I thought it was
going to be disallowed, but no it was a fair try.
So that has just started six nil to New South
Wales playing of course in Queensland. To get in touch
with your talk on air O eight hundred and eighty
ten eighty Do you want to text the numbers nine
to nine to two, hurdle twelve and get in touch
(01:27:51):
If you want to talk about scams and AI that
is the major topic for tonight. Anything else you want
to talk about, that's your plan. A couple of earthquakes
today too, eh. It's always something in the old shaky aisles,
isn't it. But you get in touch. Do you want
to talk on air? That's the whole plan tonight. I'll
to you he's the grubby player in this New South
(01:28:12):
Wales team, Hudson Young, dirty dirty dirty spectrum. It's Marcus
good evening. Yeah you Marcus good things spectrum.
Speaker 12 (01:28:23):
I've got a good one for you.
Speaker 18 (01:28:24):
Man.
Speaker 24 (01:28:24):
When AOI Orincher.
Speaker 11 (01:28:27):
Just you just ask them where they're from.
Speaker 25 (01:28:30):
Or where they're calling from, and asked him what the
wethers like and it gets bamboozled and just as them,
well what what team do you support from? You can
see it's Ozzie number asking what you team they support.
Speaker 2 (01:28:46):
I think with the situation I was in right, the
call was from a New Zealand number, Tie number, and
it was just an ordinary human talking for a long
time until about three minutes in we asked him for
his AI and he said he was so it wasn't
suit a you know, as soon as he was asked
to confess to it. But he was just pretending to
(01:29:07):
be a human for three minutes and very extremely convincing.
Speaker 8 (01:29:12):
And you used to get a word in for three minutes.
Speaker 2 (01:29:15):
You had a conversation for three minutes.
Speaker 21 (01:29:17):
Yeah, right, Yeah, I found the way he just asked
him where they're from.
Speaker 2 (01:29:23):
Sorry, Spectrum, I don't think you understand the scenario. The
guy had wrung up pretending to be a human. We
didn't realize it was a computer until we asked him
and he confessed straight. So it wasn't about trying to
work out what it was AI or not. When we
finally thought got suspicious and asked him. He confessed, but
he never would have Most people wouldn't have known and
wouldn't have asked him. So yeah, so that it's not
(01:29:47):
about catching out AI. It's about people pretending to be
humans and no one knowing, because that's what we're so
used to was ordinarily people ringing. Michael Marcus. Good evening, Marcus.
Speaker 24 (01:29:58):
I had what I'm pretty sure was a scam called
this afternoon, and then after listening to you about the
AI component, I'm actually wondering now whether it was an
AI generated scam.
Speaker 2 (01:30:12):
Talk to me about talk to me about it.
Speaker 24 (01:30:14):
Yes, So what happened about It was about five o'clock
in the phone rang and I was actually expecting a
phone call from from the bank, so I thought, oh,
that's them, and without really looking at the number, I
answered it. The voice came on and it was a
lady and had a very strange accent that I couldn't
really place, and she said, oh, I don't think she
(01:30:35):
said my name, didn't introduce herself, and at the time,
thinking back now, I should have clipped sooner. But anyway,
I'll carry on.
Speaker 10 (01:30:43):
She asked me.
Speaker 24 (01:30:44):
She said, oh, we've just seen that there's been a
one thousand dollars and an eight hundred dollar debit go
against your visa card. And it seemed a bit suspicious
because it's also for some gift cards, and we see
that you haven't really sent money on gift cards or
that sort of amount before, and I thought, well, that's
(01:31:06):
pre stones and steady away I said, no, no, no,
that's not me at all, and I was quite keen
to deny it all because it wasn't. And we went
on a bit and didn't ask me too many details,
but said I'll put you over, and it came to
another animated voice saying that if you want to.
Speaker 6 (01:31:29):
Wipe these charges, press once.
Speaker 24 (01:31:32):
So pressed one and it came back, Yes, those charges
have been blocked, and so I thought, well, that's that's good.
And then a few seconds later it flicked over to
a man's voice and he said, I believe you've you've
just been maybe possibly had a scam come for you,
and I said, yeah, that's that's I believe so, and
(01:31:52):
he started asking all these questions, do you do internet banking,
how often you're doing internet banking, When was the last
time you used internet banking, When was the last time
you used it overseas. Do you know this company? I
can't remember the name, because once again the accent was
difficult for each other. Follow this company in the States
(01:32:14):
And I said no, and they and then he said, oh,
what about me? Gave my name John Brown or John Blower,
something like that. I said no, I've never heard of him.
And this went on for a few more minutes, and
I never gave him any details. He never asked me
for any and after another couple of minutes he just
hung up the phone and I ran the bank. Oh no,
(01:32:35):
that's what I said. I think I should bring the
bank and get my EVERITT cards canceled. And he said
I don't think you need to do that, and I said, oh, well,
And that's sort of tild within that he wasn't from
my bank. And another thing I thought of back then
was the lady asked me if I had these charges
against my visa card, Well, I don't have a visa card.
Speaker 2 (01:32:57):
And it sounds it sounds to me like that's not
a It sounds to me like that's your classic scam,
particularly with people with a foreign accent working from because
I don't think a scam that's to convince themselves with
local would do AI with a foreign accent. But you
didn't give them any of your important details, did you?
Speaker 24 (01:33:15):
No, not nothing, not even my address, my debit number,
my card number, my anything, even the bank's name of
the bank. When I hung up, I looked at the
number and it was from Australia.
Speaker 2 (01:33:29):
Yeah, that sounds like I think there's a standard scam.
This is free every This New AI experience is quite different.
But I appreciate your call. Nathan Claire has gone over again.
Ten nil. He's got all the points. Two tries and
one conversion kicked to come beautiful try Kritter Stephen Crichton.
He made it really Yeah, they went coast to coast,
so they went from the forty meter line. But tremendous work. Yeah,
(01:33:54):
it's replaying it, but replaying it from the back, twenty
tow away from eleven, twenty away from eleven. Richard ats Marcus,
Good evening.
Speaker 22 (01:34:03):
Good evening, Marcus. Just off just as a tangent. I
haven't been listening all night, but I understand and heard
on the news about the soul of power things. Yes,
so during my travels I've noticed different things. California City,
for example, they they are three percent of their electricity
(01:34:26):
generation is by a soul of power. Now there sunshine
hours are slightly up on ours, so it's kind of
fair enough that they invest maybe more and solar than
we do, but we still have the sunshine ours to
make it quite a bible proposition. So, whereas California has
twenty three percent of the power generated by solar, New
(01:34:48):
Zealand has two percent, I'm actually fully behind and anything
that can that can increase our.
Speaker 18 (01:34:55):
Use of it.
Speaker 22 (01:34:56):
There is there is a flip side though, because it
takes quite a few I'm not exactly sure how a
solar panel is created, but it does take trucks. A
whole of the diesels go into the pits to drag
out the mineral. I believe that you need.
Speaker 2 (01:35:12):
I guess. I guess ultimately there'll be electric trucks that
will be mining.
Speaker 22 (01:35:15):
In But yeah, yeah, so yep, I think the will
kind of turning that way.
Speaker 2 (01:35:21):
I think, I think, I think a revolution has happened,
and the revolution is not just solar and price, it's
also batteries between the two of them, because you actually
can now generate power and you can now store power,
and that evens everything out and it means that the
power is attainable right throughout the day. So it's pretty
it's a pretty compelling argument.
Speaker 22 (01:35:43):
And most most definitely, and you know, I hadn't really
thought of that aspect of the Eventually there's going to
be electric trucks and they'll they'll they'll be the beck
that are going down to drag the mineral out.
Speaker 2 (01:35:58):
And in a funny way, I think the straight up
for moves in the battle of the bombing of Irat
and everything has spared all this up because now people
because you know, you know, that was the end of
the diesel era. We're not going back. And China's unbelieved.
I mean, you see some of these solar farms and China,
it's just unbelievable. But you know it seems is now
our government, both nationally and labor are talking about that.
(01:36:20):
And what's interesting is they're trying to go because because
solar works, but it works money for the homeowners, not
the renters. But now there's going to be portable, portable
solar panels and batteries that renters can take with them
from house because you can't really expect the landlord's going
to put up a you know, it's going to put
solar on for you to get free power. So it's interesting.
(01:36:43):
I mean, ultimately they should have they're responsible people.
Speaker 22 (01:36:45):
Yeah, I call it a show. Two weeks back and
someone has talked about this solar battery thing for renters
and a detectives And because I didn't catch the name
of it's called jaquerie or something at three point three
like suitcases and you look them up to sold to
(01:37:07):
sole panel. And I went on the YouTube and had
a look at them, and then it's very and it's
type of stuff, but it was well made. It was
like a suitcase I think seventy seven pounds or thirty kilos.
Speaker 2 (01:37:20):
It's all moving quite quick. What's amazing is Germany were
this solar revolution. It was just people in apartments putting
a couple of screens on their little balconies, you know vertically.
It seems most to you just get some cable ties,
cable them to your you know where you put your
bigonias or whatever. Your cable tie a couple of panels
and that's just that's all about all your power.
Speaker 22 (01:37:39):
Yeah, I've been dealing with it quite a bit. I
had I have a three hundred and thirty what solear
panel on top of the on top of the mobile
and for a while and during a winder even it drove.
It drove a hundred. It's quite good.
Speaker 2 (01:37:53):
We've embraced it yet, but I think we'll be doing
it soon. We'll go solar. And just because I don't
know why we haven't done it, it's just probably one
of those kinds, but I don't It doesn't seem like
there's any hurry for us because it gets cheaper and
cheaper and cheaper all the time. So I don't know
when the sweet spot is when it gets too cheap
to not do it, I guess. But we had a
pretty bad experience with contact power today, so we've had
(01:38:14):
to pull the pin on them. Just terrible inflexible, don't listen,
terrible power providers. A flip, thanks Richard, nice to talk
hold your horses people. Fifteen to eleven Blues have totally
disheveled Queensland about passion them. It's eighteen zero. They've come
out there and they've just really monstered them. Although I'm
(01:38:35):
just telling you as we speak, the ham has just
gone over for Queensland. So now it's eighteen four. Kick
to come deser it's Marcus. Good evening.
Speaker 26 (01:38:43):
Oh okay, Marcus. I was listening who they are when
the two guys wondering about the how the soul of
plug in ones would perhaps back feet into the suit
into the main circuit. Yes, well that won't happen though,
it's design, so it doesn't happen.
Speaker 2 (01:39:00):
You are, And that was the point I made, because
no lines going to tolerate something like that. It's a
highly regular industry. So yeah, you're involved, are you.
Speaker 26 (01:39:10):
I'm an electrician by trade, and I had a good
look at a look at it because I quite sing
it's a good idea. If do you look up rewiring
a ti roa well, my mini solar they have it
all on there.
Speaker 2 (01:39:29):
Is what's the actual I missed the news. What is
the kit they're talking about?
Speaker 26 (01:39:34):
Well, it can be. It can be as as small
as you like or as large as like. You just
keep adding on to it. So what it is. It's
so like a solar panel, a couple of solar panels
and a unit that the solar goes into and the
power lines go into, and then you just have a
leader plugs into oney of powerpoints and it feeds into there.
So you'm looking at say five or seven percent, okay,
(01:39:58):
just to.
Speaker 2 (01:39:58):
Get just to get this straight. So you've got solar
panels and the unit that you plug in is a
battery as well, it's still was it.
Speaker 26 (01:40:07):
No, No, it hasn't got a battery.
Speaker 2 (01:40:09):
It just goes straight into the main grid.
Speaker 26 (01:40:11):
Yeah, but it goes to a unit that's like a inverter.
Speaker 2 (01:40:16):
I understand it. Yeah.
Speaker 26 (01:40:19):
Well, you know the old UPS has used to have
that had the power and then your the power went off,
your computer keep running?
Speaker 15 (01:40:28):
Is it putting?
Speaker 2 (01:40:28):
Is it putting it? So you're getting money and putting
that into the grid.
Speaker 26 (01:40:31):
Yeah, Well, if your power, if if your power come,
you'll let you do that. Some of the will, some
of them won't.
Speaker 2 (01:40:39):
But you can also by plugging it, and you can
also use it for your own power within your own house.
Is that the point.
Speaker 26 (01:40:46):
You use that as its place of some of your power?
So you know, it depends on how many pounds you've got,
how much you're going to not use your power from
the power loans.
Speaker 2 (01:40:58):
But it won't store the power until you need it
if you're not running any appliances at that time.
Speaker 26 (01:41:03):
No, not unless you put a battery with it. You
can't have a battery that's more expensive. Of course, the
batteries are very expensive. Sure, yeah, but you can. You
can start off with the cheaper, cheap, simpler one and
you can add on to it as you go.
Speaker 2 (01:41:19):
Is it something you're thinking of doing, Dez.
Speaker 26 (01:41:23):
I've got some panels here, and burtis I'm looking at
actually running some of my things straight off the panels
or without having I'd have a separate little power power
unit for it, because I can run my because we're
out in the country, so we have our water comes
out of a tank, so they have a water pump
and then you can run your freezer and that off
(01:41:44):
it too.
Speaker 2 (01:41:46):
Now this website you talked about what's it called? Because
I know that's the quite the reputable. What's it called?
Power free?
Speaker 10 (01:41:52):
Is it right?
Speaker 19 (01:41:53):
No?
Speaker 26 (01:41:53):
Rewiring a tiro?
Speaker 9 (01:41:55):
Now.
Speaker 26 (01:41:56):
The interesting thing about well I heard about that for
us is I don't know where it was Carrie or
head the GP. Allison Alan interviewed the guy.
Speaker 2 (01:42:07):
I think they're the quite a credible voice of that,
so I think they are. Yeah, I'll get on the
website and look at that desk. I am sort of
slightly fascinated by Sola and it seems to be its time.
By the way, the score that try was unconverted the
Hammers try. It's eighteen to four with New South Wales
just monstering them, but yet a bit of a fight
(01:42:27):
back at the stage night away from eleven o'clock. By
the way, we're going to be out of power before
too long. Why not saying that there's going to be
a we might be off here from mind or two,
but that's expected people. Yes, it might freak you out.
The desk goes off, nasty head, nook, he's off for
a hi as they love to pronounce the H like
an H in Australia. Criminal stock. That's what they recollect for.
(01:42:48):
It's come from the Irish bed. It's Marcus. Good evening, Marcus.
Speaker 18 (01:42:52):
You're looking at the four announcement today and I thought
we have or heard that before and being it was
re worrying art role. I've seen it on their website.
They were advertising it about two years ago. And no
kidding as Labor could have just copied and pasted exactly
what's on the website for their policy because it's execute
the same, all the breakdowns, all the tenants savings, it's
(01:43:17):
all on their website pretty much just copied what these
guys have got. And it's a good thing, Marcus, because
you know it's going to help renters out.
Speaker 2 (01:43:25):
But I've had a busy day with driving and stuff.
There what was the actual announcement, So it was.
Speaker 18 (01:43:31):
About you know these plug and solders that you can
get that you can plug in there.
Speaker 2 (01:43:37):
They've announced that it's going to be there's going to
be a loan so tenants can now get into solar
as well as right, yeah, I understand, yeah.
Speaker 18 (01:43:45):
Yeah, yeah, yes, that's they'll be able to get it,
and they've better to plug it and take it with
them and they break down all the power savings and
all that, and it's exactly what the same as what's reworrying.
Speaker 2 (01:43:58):
So if you're a renter, I don't I don't know
what your circumstances. But if you're a renter, right and
you take your panels with you, how do you stop
them blowing away?
Speaker 18 (01:44:08):
Well the faxt day, like you know, they don't just
sit out on the ground, Marcus, you know, you screw
them to the wall. They cut them to the deck
or something.
Speaker 2 (01:44:17):
Game they're not on the roof, but your cable tie
them to a fence or something. Is that what happens?
Speaker 18 (01:44:23):
Well, I understand it from looking at this rewirring you
you want to jump on the website.
Speaker 2 (01:44:31):
You're absolutely right, you know, because I've got a lot
of mates that's been there. Have you got mates that
talk solar that will look on their phone And.
Speaker 18 (01:44:38):
I've got sold on my house at the moment, so
on my homeowner. So but no, this is going to
be great for renters. And these guys have been pushing
it for two years and you can see why the
Labor Party announcement today is similar to the National Party
announcement the other month. You know that both the policies
are very similar, and it's it sounds like they've been
(01:44:59):
talking to these guys.
Speaker 2 (01:45:00):
Okay, thanks Ben, thanks for coming through.
Speaker 8 (01:45:02):
About that.
Speaker 2 (01:45:04):
Halftime in the Rugby League eighteen to four or boy
oh boy, Nathan Clears wrapped up like a mummy and
the Queens that kept having a long chat to the reef.
I'm not quit sure what that's about. I've got no idea,
but there's some sort of concern there. Anyway, get in
touch if you want you mon names Marcus welcome, Hit'll
twelve ohait and just so you know that sometime between
(01:45:27):
now and when I come back, or after I've come,
we're gonna be off here for a while, so probably
playing some music, or it might even be during the
news or a commercial break, but they're just there is internet,
a planned internet outage, you love it. It's Kevin Munster,
that's jabber jabbing to the ref. That's what's happening there.
(01:45:47):
So so the tale of the State of Origin is
that New South Wales have come out like a fired
up team you would not believe and completely put Queens
into disarray. There has been a fight back. The Hammer
scored just but not converted, so it's three tries to
one and the three tries converted for New South Wales.
(01:46:10):
So remarkable performance anyway.
