First of yesterday's news. I'm Glen. We're looking back at Monday.
The texting is super rich as proposed by the Green Party.
A lot of people wanted to talk about that yesterday,
even though it's never going to happen. That's weird. What

Marcus thinks of pitch Invaders after there was a sort
of a multi pronged invasion the Warriors game Sunday afternoon,
before any of that. Uh, key We Saver is going
to be compulsory. National gets its way. You get it,
you get paid, paid off in order to do it

So there's a kind of historical reluctance to invest, and
we have to make it as attractive as possible. Mucking
around with key we Saber doesn't help. I have as
much faith in key We Saver as I have in
the rest of the world. You know, the world continuing
as it is. Yes, there could be a cataclysmic failure

of markets, in which case losing your Kiwi saver is
the least of our worries, so I have faith that
the kei We saver will be there at the end.
It is what most the vast majority of Kiwi's need,
and if they don't have it, they'll need the taxpayer
to prop them up. Surely it is better to encourage
all of us to be contributing to our own futures,

our retirements and the future beyond that. And the best
way to do it is to set the settings and
leave them alone. Don't dip into it, don't muck around
with it, don't change it if you go. If you're
looking for money, which successive governments have had to do.

If you're looking for money, look for it elsewhere. Don't
come sniffing around. Key we save andything. Oh we can
save a few million there, a few hundred million there.
If we cut the contribution, set it and leave it alone,
make it compulsory. That's the bit I agree with.

As much as it pains me to say this, I
kind of agree with Mike Hosking on this that I
feel uncomfortable about being compelled to do things. It can you.
It should be the opportunity for you to opt out.
And do your own thing. Is there is there? I

the details, do we? It seems like a good idea
or a bad idea. We'll vote for it or vote
for the other guys based on half an idea about

But like this Welsh tax the Greens are proposing. Once again?
Am I spending too much time with Mike Hosky? My
Hosking pointed out quite rightly yesterday, who cares what the
Greens are proposing? They don't get to do anything. They're
just a minor partner in any coalition, even if that
coalition should happen to get into government. So I mean,

you know, they can give the vote to worms and
compost piles as they want to. It's never going to happen.

The idea is that somehow this act of forced goodwill,
taxing assets that your family has worked hard to acquire,
using money that's already probably been taxed, earning income that's
already taxed well somewhere, somehow materially change the lives of others.
This idea is byes. I've just been in France where
they have exactly this system. They have high personal income

tax rates, and they are swinging to the far right.
And this plan includes a wealth tax on everything from
shares to companies, which only a handful of other countries do,
by the way, and bother doing because you may have
an asset, but it doesn't mean you've got cash to
pay tax on it. Just a reminder, this is not
how a country gets rich. This is not how you

create more jobs and industry. It is not how you
grow an economy. And if you're not doing that, you're
standing still or going backwards. We've been doing that in
this country for too long. Ideas like this may be
appealing on paper, in reality almost never delivered the things
that the politicians espousing them promise on the hustings. You

don't hear this set often, but thank god for labor
completely ruling this thing out.

Funny. I may I think I mentioned on this podcast
yesterday that the domestic manager was very taken aback by
the Greens tax Land and very angry about it, and
I sort of said, hey, don't worry about it, it's
not going to happen. And then yesterday when it turned
out that they they hadn't done the mass right, and

she actually looked at the details, she actually went, oh, actually,
I don't mind it. It's the kind of thing that
you've got to deal with. These these fickle voters keep
changing their mind us talk say anyway, yeah, they've got
the mass role.

I reckon, they've made another silly mistake here by being
too greedy. So what they've proposed on income tax is
a forty five percent tax rate for anyone earning over
one hundred and sixty thousand dollars. Now one hundred and
sixty thousand dollars a year is not rich. It's just
not rich. It's it's middle income. Raising a family on
one hundred and sixty thousand dollars a year is not easy.

I reckon. This is going to lose the Greens. A
lot of nice people in nice suburbs on nice incomes
who want to save the planet and fixed child poverty.
But not if they are suddenly going to have to
pay forty five percent instead of the thirty three percent
that they are currently paying one hundred and sixty thousand dollars.
That is a massive income it's a massive income tax
jump from thirty three to forty five. I'm surprised the

Greens have made a mistake. This silly because they've already
been told not to be so greedy. It is why
they raise their wealth tax to only ping net assets
over ten million dollars. Cast your mind back last selection
it was two million dollars, right, So they've gone from
two to ten because they say they heard people tell
them it was too low. Well, my guess is they
are about to learn exactly the same lesson with their
forty five percent income tax rate on one hundred and

sixty thousand dollars. It's too low.

It doesn't really inspire confidence. And these guys, if they
can't put the discimal point, was that what the as
she was that they couldn't put the dismal point in
the right place. You can't put them in charge of anything,

on their heads and say nice ideas, guys, thanks for coming.

focus on what people can see, you know.

This tax break to a certain percentage of the population,

But you don't see what's been missed out on, you know,
so you don't see you know, that it's stopped a
business expanding, the pay rise that might have arrived, the
jobs that might have been there, you know, rental properties
that were never built, yep, you know, the infrastructure projects

that weren't done. So you know, you can go, well,
we've done this, we've redistributed that. But you and you go, oh,
well that's great, I'm getting twenty seven dollars extra a week,
But you'll never see what what didn't grow, And that
twenty seven dollars a week may have been a whole
lot more and almost certainly would have been than if
it had just been taken off a productive sector of

the economy and given to you.

Yeah, there's the assumptions, right, the assumption that they're making
in their calculations to say how much extra billion it's
going to bring into the country per year. You just
can't know that because of things like capital flight and
people not setting up businesses because it's no longer financially viable.

And people not hiring people because they've got to pay
tax on their income rather than on their profit.

there's been criticism for how hard security guards tacked a
