The Odyssey 

Christopher Nolan's 2026 film The Odyssey is a massive sci-fi-scale, mythic action epic adapting Homer's ancient Greek poem. It follows Odysseus’s perilous 10-year journey to return to his family on Ithaca after the Trojan War, surviving sea monsters, angry gods, and the dangerous suitors attempting to usurp his throne.  

I, Object  

Grieving the loss of his father and unable to relate to the people in his life, 10-year-old Tom takes refuge in the everyday objects around him. They reveal their true identities and speak to Tom, helping him in his healing process.

It's time to catch up with Francisca rud Can, our
film reviewer and get her picks for the week. He
out of Francisca, good morning. This one's had a lot
of high I'm really looking forward to your thoughts on it.
Let's have a listen, first of all, to Christopher Nolan's
brand new The Odyssey.

Speaker 3 (00:26):
This is the household when from Master, I want you
to choose screens because King is coming back.

No, he's no, don't do Dan.

Speaker 2 (00:41):
This is, of course Homer is ancient epic Greek poem.
I'm ashamed to say I haven't read The Odyssey, and
I think I'm probably going to see the film before
I read it.

Speaker 4 (00:50):
Yet. Look, I haven't read it either, so I'm not
coming to this film review as an academic and an
expert on the Odyssey. But from what I do know
about the poem, I think Nolan has stuck to the
kind of the events that we all know of and
the themes as well. That and there are so many different
things in this story in this poem, this twelve thousand

(01:14):
line poem, and it is a story that has everything.
It's got every story and has sort of been responsible
for creating all sorts of genres from you know, sort
of fantasy and science fiction, all sorts of things. It's
all in here, and as you say, been a lot
of hype. He released a trailer. Everybody got upset about

(01:36):
different things, the modern dialogue, the American accents, the questionable
historical details, the casting choices, and I just think everyone
just needs to calm down and go to the movie.
You're going to need to find yourself one hundred and
seventy two spend minutes because it is very, very long.
We're almost hitting the to our mark, but it is.
It is a masterpiece. He has reverted back to sort

(02:00):
of very classic filmmaking. He's hardly used any computer generated imagery.
He's used puppets and things to create all these monsters.
So there's an absolute joy to watch on the big screen.
It's also been shot if this is Christopher Nolan's first

(02:21):
to feature film shot entirely on Imax cameras, so it's
seventeen milimeter film. I saw it in the Imax. I
have a bit of a love hate relationship with the
Imax theater. Unless you're back in the middle. It can
be really distracting trying to watch everything.

Speaker 2 (02:35):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, I.

Speaker 4 (02:38):
Just wanted to sit back and take this in. But this,
you know, this is a film that is made to
be seen at this at a cinema. So just wherever
you are in the country, find the biggest screen you
can and go and enjoy this film. I was a
little worried about Matt Damon as our hero does. Yes,
I didn't know whether he quite had the gravitas to
pull it off. But as the film progresses and we
see the huge impact that the Battle of Troy had

(03:00):
on him, how the impact of this war and the
consequences of his leadership kind of broke him as a man.
You know, the weight of the decisions that he made
and the sacrifices that you know, that were made by
his men under him as that way sort of wears

(03:21):
him down. I think he does a really beautiful job.
All the performances are very good, They're very intimate. As
I say, you know, it looks spectacular a little bit
too long. Lots of little came lots of famous people
are popping up for sort of little rolls here and there.
Pace wined a little for me. At a few moments,
I thought, yeah, we could have just sped this up

(03:41):
a little bit. But all in all, he's done, and
as you would expect from Christopher Nolan, it is not
a linear kind of structure to this film. We're sort
of flicking back and forward in time into different places
and things. And I think he's done really a really
nice job of it.

Speaker 2 (03:55):
Oh, very good. Okay, I can't wait to see it.
So The Odyssey is showing in cinemas obviously Imax cinemas
around the country at the moment. Next up, also showing
in cinemas, This is I Object.

Hi, Tom, We're worried about you, Thomas.

Speaker 4 (04:11):
We've seen you talking to these things. Maybe it's just
something he's going through.

Speaker 1 (04:17):
No, the boy needs help.

Speaker 2 (04:20):
Okay, So that's eye Object.

Speaker 4 (04:23):
So this is a new film from Andrew Nicole, who
is a screenwriter, director, and producer. You know, he's a
key web. He is responsible for films like Gatica, He
wrote and produced The Truman Show, The Terminal. He you know,
he's been there, done it. This is a really sweet film.
It's a family film. It's a film for children that

(04:43):
discusses some quite serious, has some quite serious themes in it,
but he's dealt with it in quite a light and
fun way, but not not sort of but also you know,
I think is respectful of younger people and what they
can potentially manage and things. It's a live action animation.
Our young hero Tom. He's a ten year old boy.

(05:04):
His father has died and he's really struggling with the
changes in his life. And he has this disease which
actually Andrew and his daughter have and they see faces
and objects and this is actually a real thing, and
these objects talk to him, and this is sort of
he's verted into his imagination to deal with what's going
on in his life. And it's the story of how
he manages to kind of reconnect with humans thanks to

(05:28):
the help of these objects and things. As I said,
really sweet. It's a family film. It's a little bit different.
It's almost like a little bit of a sort of
an arthouthy kids film in a way. But you know,
he's done a really nice job of it. Ed it's
got a fabulous cast as well.

Speaker 2 (05:43):
