The City of Sails is set to be humming this weekend.

Auckland's hosting a plethora of events, as the Warriors take on the Roosters today, the Blues face the Crusaders tomorrow, and Round the Bays kicks off Sunday.

The city's newest golf tournament will also run across the weekend.

New Zealand Events Association General Manager Elaine Linnell told Mike Hosking they’ll be able to see and feel the financial impact of the weekend after the fact.

She says with events like this, hotels are full, restaurants are booked – it's busy, and it flows through every part of the city.

Speaker 1 (00:00):
Now.

Speaker 2 (00:00):
Part of the reason the Auckland bounce back economically is
on is basically because of weekends like the one we're
about to have. Its events, Central Warriors, Blues Champions, Stay
at Ellerslee, Elite Athletics, Polo, major golf tournament, Round the
Bays is on. I'm looking to do the Round the
Bays in record time this year, so I should be
quite exciting. Auckland FC. They're playing, there's a field, there's
a course, there's a circuit happening near you. Elaine Linnell

(00:22):
is the New Zealand Events Association gm AND is with us. Elaine,
Good morning.

Speaker 1 (00:27):
To you, Good morning, make How are you well?

Speaker 2 (00:29):
Thank you? How out of the box? Is a weekend
with that many events.

Speaker 1 (00:34):
Look, it's something that we haven't really seen that much before.
It's great that Tataki Oakland Unlimited have sort of made
this coordination happen under the Footy Phillies and Sales banner.

Speaker 2 (00:44):
So it is coordinated, so it's not just a whole
bunch of random people who decided to do a bunch
of random things on the same day or.

Speaker 1 (00:49):
Weekend exactly well, especially when it comes to the sporting
events that are taking place. This weekend.

Speaker 2 (00:55):
What would your expectation be around participation and dollars? Will
you be able to, you know, next week see it
and feel it?

Speaker 1 (01:03):
Yeah? Absolutely, you know events like this the hotels are
for the restaurant's book. It's busy, you know. It flows
through every part of the city. You know. People who
come and do riund the bays on Sunday morning will
finish up at the football People who go to the
races can end up at the rugby activity, creating more activity.

Speaker 2 (01:21):
Can you potentially have too many events and stretch a
place and wallets or not?

Speaker 1 (01:28):
No, I don't think so. I think this is sort
of what we can do best. You know, Outland has
done loads of major events in the past. It can
stretch the capacity. But I think what we're seeing is
just the amount of people in the city will just
create that energy and the economic benefits will flow through.

Speaker 2 (01:45):
And the forecast is excellent as well. You have a
good one. Elaine Linnell, who's the New Zealand Events Association
General managing.

Speaker 1 (01:51):
For more from the mic Asking Breakfast, listen live to
news talks.

Speaker 2 (01:55):
It'd be from six am weekdays, or follow the podcast
