The UK Anti-Doping Agency have determined Joseph Parker's nutritionist was the reason traces of cocaine were found in a positive anti-doping test last year.

He's free to fight again after serving a three-month suspension and has denied knowingly taken banned substances.

A statement from UKAD says Parker's nutritionist was a regular user of the drug leading up to the sample being taken.

Parker told Mike Hosking that he noticed the nutritionist was dealing with a few issues while on the training camp, and advised him to stop.

But he said his food or drink was probably contaminated.

He says he had no idea when he hired the nutritionist that he was going through things, but he’s happy he's getting the help he needs.

Speaker 1 (00:00):
Good week for Joseph Parker as he got the all
clear to fight again. The provisional suspension has been lifted.
Still some questions to be answered, and I think we
can answer them probably this morning. Joseph Parker is with us.
Good to see you, mate, Good morning, Good morning, very.
I can't tell you. As a person who loves you
and a big fan of yours, I can't tell you.
And I assume this is applicable to lots of people
all over the world. What the news did when it

(00:21):
came through, and I thought, how's that possible? And fortunately
it sort of wasn't was it? And it's worked out. Okay, Listen,
when the.

Speaker 2 (00:33):
News first came out, shocked, surprised, how did this happen?
But now that the listen, We've cleared from this case.
Now obviously I've been it's been just hovering over me
for the last nearly a year. So now that the
news is out there were cleared, I am over the moon, happy, delighted,
and I can't wait to get back into the ring

(00:53):
and fight again.

Speaker 1 (00:53):
Good we'll we'll talk about finding it just a moment.
So the UK Antidoping Authority is said overnight it's the
nutritionist was the nutritionist and it was he's got will
you tell us? You tell us the story?

Speaker 2 (01:08):
Uh, like the nutritionists is one of the best in
the world, and he made a big change in my
career when we linked up and we were together three years.
And I feel like with if the camp that we had,
he probably had a few issues that was going through
and probably contaminated my food or drink or whatever it was.

Speaker 1 (01:29):
So he was a drug user basically.

Speaker 2 (01:31):
Not in the beginning, towards the end.

Speaker 1 (01:33):
Yeah, and so you saw trouble within the camp.

Speaker 2 (01:36):
I saw that on and I advised him to stop
and advise listen, we need to get this fight. Everyone
needs to be serious and on point. But this fight
games is not a It's not a joke.

Speaker 1 (01:47):
Right when you got pinged, which you did get pinged,
what did you think, I mean, apart from the surprise
in the shock, I mean, you can't have seen that coming,
given you you're not a drug user.

Speaker 2 (01:58):
Just listen, they told us. And I looked at my
wife and I said, how tears. No, I was emotional
because I've been final thirteen years, never failed a drug test,
and then all of a sudden this happens.

Speaker 1 (02:12):
Did you know what had happened, or suspect what had happened.

Speaker 2 (02:15):
I had no idea.

Speaker 1 (02:16):
When did you find out or how did you find out?

Speaker 2 (02:21):
I was talking to a lot of the team in
the camp, and that's how I found out that this
stuff was happening. But before that, just like I said, shocked, surprised,
and did everybody do not want to say?

Speaker 1 (02:32):
Yeah?

Speaker 2 (02:33):
So?

Speaker 1 (02:33):
Which led you to from memory you issued that statement
saying it's not me, I'll be clear and eventually so
that then the wheels start to turn. There's nothing you
can do about the timeline.

Speaker 2 (02:44):
There is absolutely enough you can do. You can only
be patient and just wait for things to take care
of itself.

Speaker 1 (02:51):
Did everyone believe you within your group?

Speaker 2 (02:55):
Everyone in my group believe me, but I listened to
the public and everyone else had their own opinions.

Speaker 1 (03:01):
Was that tough?

Speaker 2 (03:03):
It was tough at first, but then I, you know,
I realized like that, as long as I have the
people around me, all close to me that believe in me,
and I believe in myself, and I believe I didn't
do anything wrong, and that's fine. I'm happy.

Speaker 1 (03:16):
When did you know?

Speaker 2 (03:18):
So?

Speaker 1 (03:18):
This news came out earlier this week and this stuff
we just talked about with the nutritionists came out overnight.
When did you know that something was going to go
your way by way of a decision. I always knew, No,
I know you, but officially, when did When did they
tell you that, look this this, we can prove this,
or it will work out okay for you?

Speaker 2 (03:39):
They taught us three weeks ago, they taught us. Right,
we've been since the fight, or since the drug results
came out, We've just been going back and forth with
lawyers and you can and just trying to kill the case.

Speaker 1 (03:52):
Yeah, well what do you can't do anything.

Speaker 2 (03:55):
You listen to it's out of my control and you
can't do you can't do nothing right.

Speaker 1 (04:01):
The bloke who let you down is obviously gone now,
and and you know, we don't want to dwell on
his problems whatever they may. But is there anything you
could have done to avoid that? Because you hire these guys,
so so the decision was iron was on you, But
you didn't know.

Speaker 2 (04:16):
I had no idea. Like everyone in the team brings
the best, and he is the best. And then also
everyone in life have issues that they go through, you know,
So I'm just happy that he's getting to help their needs.

Speaker 1 (04:28):
Has he Have you talked to him during that whole process?

Speaker 2 (04:31):
Yeah? I talked to him a lot. He's all good friends.

Speaker 1 (04:33):
Seriously, how's he handled it with you?

Speaker 2 (04:38):
He he wanted to do everything that he could to make.

Speaker 1 (04:42):
It right right, So, and do you forgive him for that?

Speaker 2 (04:46):
I forgive him. Lets everyone makes mistakes. It was a
big mistake and it costs me a lot, and it
cost me time out of the ring, opportunity looking after
my family. But it also gave me time to spend
more time here at home. Yeah.

Speaker 1 (05:00):
But in the meantime, until you wait it. You know
in your heart of hearts you're going to be cleared.
But until you are cleared, you can't fight.

Speaker 2 (05:07):
Can't fight. No, you can train, yeah, but you can't fight.
And for me and well as a fighter, when you train,
you want to fight.

Speaker 1 (05:17):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (05:17):
And I'm happy that's clear now because I do want
to fight sooner.

Speaker 1 (05:20):
So you're not resentful in any way that this has
happened to you.

Speaker 2 (05:24):
That's all part of the journey. Journey continues, it makes
the journey goes up and down, up and down, up
and down.

Speaker 1 (05:30):
Wow, So are you fit and ready to go?

Speaker 2 (05:34):
I'm fit now? And give me a few weeks and
I'm ready to go. Right.

Speaker 1 (05:38):
So where are we at with the fight? What do
you need? But who's next? Are you looking at?

Speaker 2 (05:45):
David? David?

Speaker 1 (05:46):
David's the man. The man, David Higgins, your promoter, is
the man. He's got a few things in the fire.

Speaker 2 (05:50):
David, my manager, is talking to a lot of the
promoters and trying to get the best deal. And I've
said to David, just locked me in the fight with anyone.
I don't care what anyone.

Speaker 1 (06:00):
He says, A couple of fights maybe before the end
of the year, is that possible?

Speaker 2 (06:03):
Probably one or two faces before the end of the year, okay,
and then carry on for a bit more and then.

Speaker 1 (06:09):
You're off and running. So where are you at in
terms of the whole business of getting to a title shot?
If that's still your aim? I mean, how many fights
off that are you? Potentially?

Speaker 2 (06:20):
Before the last fight, we're so close. But now that
we've been cleared, I feel like it won't take too long.
Two or three fights and you're back fighting for a
world title.

Speaker 1 (06:28):
And you reckon. You can come back and give them
the gap and all of that and the training and
the fitness so far so Duboir Wardley, you'd look at
the You'd look at whoever wins out of that.

Speaker 2 (06:38):
If I can get that fight between the winner of
the buy and Wardley for the championship.

Speaker 1 (06:42):
Of the world, that'll be next level.

Speaker 2 (06:45):
That'll be an amazing opportunity.

Speaker 1 (06:46):
You will you be seen or treated differently within the
boxing community through David and promotions and getting fights and
stuff like that. All people see this for what it is,
and you're clean, clear and good to go.

Speaker 2 (06:57):
I think most people in boxing will see see how
it is or see it for what it is. Yeah,
and I do have a good reputation in boxing just
because of how we've presented ourselves.

Speaker 1 (07:08):
Yeah, okay, so that's the next one. While I've got you,
I'll get to do nicro in just a couple of moments.
As far as Joshua the other day, when I was
watching that fight, So for people who didn't watch it,
Joshua comes out, gets knocked down, gets knocked down twice,
gets back up, smacks the other guy. So two part
question how does that happen? And two that other guy

(07:30):
is he any good? The Albanian?

Speaker 2 (07:33):
I thank the Albanian guy was picked for Joshua to
look good against whoops, That's what I feel, and for
his comeback fight. But with Joshua being dropped twice, it
just shows that you have to be wary and you
have to be careful for every second of every men,
of every round. You can't let your guy down.

Speaker 1 (07:51):
Is that Were you impressed by the fact he got
knocked over twice but came back up.

Speaker 2 (07:55):
That's impressive because a lot of guys will get knocked
over twice and then that's they're gone, they're done. But
he got up and he was able to give it back.

Speaker 1 (08:04):
Fantastic. And now in your role as promoter, of course
you got the.

Speaker 2 (08:08):
Nika Promotions presents.

Speaker 1 (08:14):
We had him in the studio. What an impressive guy,
isn't he? I mean you would know that.

Speaker 2 (08:20):
He's impressive, talented, he's smart, articulate, and he just wants
to go out there and be the best. And he's
got abs. He does that I would like to have
one day.

Speaker 1 (08:32):
Yeah, that is. Is he good for it? I mean,
is he gonna win? Is he good enough?

Speaker 2 (08:35):
I feel like he's gonna win, Like he's he's not
only fighting for himself and New Zealand, but he's fighting
for his missus, his girlfriend, his family, and there's a
lot of things that he's fighting for and I do
feel that he's you know, he's taking this camp more
seriously than other camps and he's in phenomenal shape.

Speaker 1 (08:53):
Fantastic. Well, listen, all I can do is wish you
all the very best. I'm so so pleased it's worked out.

Speaker 2 (08:59):
In making im back and I can't wait.

Speaker 1 (09:01):
Honestly, I'm good.

Speaker 2 (09:02):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (09:02):
Is there a weight lifted off your shoulder despite the
fact you see them at peace and.

Speaker 2 (09:05):
There's something hovering everything I was doing every day, just
something was always there and now it's gone fantastic.

Speaker 1 (09:11):
Well, good luck this weekend with the Nika fight and
good to see you and before when you announce your
