After briefly re-opening the Strait of Hormuz, Iran closed it again after the US did not meet demands to unblock Iranian ports.

Former US Army Major General told Mike Hosking, "unfortunately, I have to say that the Iranians have assessed the situation probably the most accurate, which is there's inconsistency on the American position, and we just don't know where this is going."

Speaker 1 (00:00):
So it might just be the weekly dipic fury finally
comes to some sort of end Round two of talks
in Pakistan, the straight up of the weekend open and shot.
Of course. Randy Manner is the former US Army major
general and Buce chief of the US National Guard. Back
with us. Randy, morning to you, Good morning to you, sir.
Is this begin to bang some heads and they'll get
there in the end time vibe to it to you
or not?

Speaker 2 (00:20):
I tell you what I'm just the whole thing goes
up and down, backwards and forwards. Unfortunately, I have to
say that the Iranians have assess the situation probably the
most accurate, which is there's inconsistency on the American position
and we just don't know where this is going.

Speaker 1 (00:36):
Did so you hopeful for the week or you literally
wouldn't have a clue.

Speaker 2 (00:42):
I don't mean to laugh, but this is a situation
where I cannot predict the unpredictableness of this American president.
I certainly am hopeful. I'm always hopeful because we need
the world to return to a piece of stability and
less chaos, and we need to get those gas prices down.
We need to be able to keep people safe on

(01:03):
all sides, and I certainly hope that's where we go.

Speaker 1 (01:06):
Your Saints in America, you can help us out with this.
The average American, they are feeling it. We know that numerically.
Is it a thing that is haunting the president politically
or can he get away with it for now?

Speaker 2 (01:20):
So I think this is haunting the president incredibly. While
there are and I'm not acting as a polster, there's
hardcore Magot people maybe twenty percent that support him no
matter what he would do, the reality is those more
moderate Republicans and middle Republicans are abandoning him left and right.
The Republicans have not won a major election in the

(01:42):
past year, and they're losing in every single area as
we go forward. So the President is probably very concerned
about what's going to go happen between now and November.

Speaker 1 (01:52):
If this happens this week, that some sort of deal
is cut, and you will have heard the President died
of the weekend saying the going to get that nuclear
dust with these big dig is in the gain of
political If all of that comes to pass, is he
a hero? And has it been worth it? Do you think.

Speaker 2 (02:07):
This is absolutely not worth it. From my point of
view as a retired military officer who served in the
Middle East as the deputy Commanding General third US Army,
it's not worth it. The objectives were never clear. They're
still not clear. This is something where it is. Any
nation has three powers. They have economic power, they have

(02:28):
diplomatic power, and they have military power. This president seemed
to go right to the military power without truly exhausting
the diplomatic and economic spending one day with the vice
president in Pakistan and saying, oh, we're done here. That
was hard work. That does not make any sense to
me whatsoever. It takes many hard sessions of negotiating to

(02:49):
get people to come to some kind of understanding together.

Speaker 1 (02:52):
Appreciate your expertise. As always, we'll get you back. Brandy Manna,
who's the former US Army major general and vice president
of the US National God. More from the Mic Asking Breakfast.

Kingdom of Fraud

Kingdom of Fraud

It’s the unlikeliest of criminal partnerships: a devout polygamist from an insular Utah sect joining forces with a shadowy Armenian tycoon from LA. The result - a billion dollar fraud conspiracy. In Kingdom of Fraud, investigative reporter Michele McPhee traces the origins of the extraordinary alliance between Jacob Kingston and Levon Termendzhyan. Together, the two men trigger the largest tax investigation in American history and weave around themselves a web of dirty cops, influential political relationships and transnational money laundering. All this is set against the backdrop of Jacob Kingston’s clan – The Order. A powerful and secretive polygamist organization in Salt Lake City. To whom Jacob is desperate to prove his worth.
