Richard Arnold: US Correspondent on the weather, Donald Trump's speech to the nation today

US President Donald Trump is set to make a nation-wide address today, and elections and voting machines are on the agenda.  

The primetime speech is expected to reveal information from newly declassified intelligence on investigations into US elections, and what the White House says are voting machine vulnerabilities.  

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt says that people will find details of the address "shocking", and that the issue should be nonpartisan.  

US Correspondent Richard Arnold told Mike Hosking that Trump has been pressing claims about fraud and interference since his loss to Joe Biden in the 2020 election. 

He says over 60 lawsuits have been filed since challenging the results, all of which, barring one that gave him a minor point, lost.

It's Mother Nature on the rain. Badge got to say,
we have floods, fires, and a pall of smoke across
seventeen states right now. When deadly flash floods hit Texas
last year, you recall around Camp Mystic, that summer camp
for kids, more than one hundred people died, including twenty
five young girls. That was described as a once in
a century event, maybe once in five hundred years.

Now, yeah, just twelve months on, those floods are being repeated.
Texas Governor Greg Abbott saying of this new flooding.

Is likely going to break records in Texas history.

Speaker 2 (00:36):
They have had up to twenty inches of rain about
fifty centimeters in a couple of days. Almost half of
that just this morning on the river that runs by
the now closed Camp Mystic. Sections of that waterway rose
by more than thirty feet nine meters in a matter
of hours. Say officials, this is a life threatening weather event.

I don't want to immense words about how serious this
situation is.

Speaker 2 (00:58):
One person has died to this point, they've rescued dozens
of people. Black Hawk helicopters involved in that effort. Meantime,
in New York, the Mayor, Zor Mandani, is urging people
to stay indoors if possible, because a massive smoke plume
is stretching down from Canada, where there are hundreds coundom
hundreds of bush fires, effecting not only the NYC, but
also Chicago, Cleveland, Detroit, Minneapolis, Toronto.

Mandani says everyone, not just people with asthma and heart conditions,
not just older adults. Everyone may feel health effects. So
today every New Yorker should take precautions, limit your time outdoors,
especially strenuous activity.

Speaker 2 (01:38):
Well, they're also offering free k and ninety five masks
at hundreds of spots around the city of folks can
get to them, while across and border there are some
pretty terrifying scenes. In all, there are presently eight hundred
and thirty eight bush fires wildfires burning. These used to
be rare as well, but in the past several years
they've become a feature of the season. Here. The air
quality in Toronto listed right now was dangerous. First Nations

tribal village has been completely destroyed in northern Ontario, says
one evacuee.

Well, perhaps the most shocking image is that one of
a freight train that people might have seen where the
workers took video of the cap totally surrounded by flames,
and then they called for help.

Okay, y'all need to hurry up here, like seriously, we're

How that man sayds so calm. I don't know how
they got that crew out of there, dun'no, but they
were rescued. They did get out alive.

Very Canadian. Actually one o'clock my time. I'm ready. What's

Well, with all that's going on in the world, could
be a number of things, right, Yeah, Trump in a
bit over three hours will focus on the election he
lost in twenty twenty, right, and I'm trying to maintain
power for the midterms. The White House says there will
be important new info on China's efforts to interfere with
the those six years ago. In that election, Biden, of course,
defeated Trump three hundred and six electric college es and

fifty one point three percent of the popular vote to
Trump's two hundred and thirty two electoral votes forty six
point eight of the popular vote. Since then, Trump has
been pressing claims that he didn't really lose, that it
was all rigged. He's always been a winner, couldn't possibly
have lost this thing. There have been since then over
sixty lawsuits that have been filed challenging the results. Every
one of them lost except for one that gave him

a minor point. Since then, Trump has been pressing for
what he calls the Save America Act that would require
a photo ID for proof of citizenship here, something that
would be difficult for some minorities in terms of documentation,
for women who took on different names when they married,
and so on and on. This legislation would suppress legitimate votes. Basically,
Trump is saying, it doesn't.

Get bigger because without free and fair elections, you're.

not going to do this with you.

He was then asked some twenty times to say who
won this thing? Rather than just accept that Biden was certified?

Who won having twenty elections? I have answered answer it?
What is your answer?

I've given you my answer?

What is your answer?

Alsof then concluded, in this line of questioning, isn't.

Speaker 4 (04:36):
It humiliating to be unable to answer this question? To
have to indulge the president's delusions? We know, you know,
everybody in this room knows the truthful answer to that question.
Why can you not give it? I think I gave
you the answer.

Speaker 2 (04:56):
If you don't sign on to the Trump approach, you
don't get the job right. Meantime, not clear whether the
television networks here are going to air this primetime address live,
even Foxes debating it. Typically an Oval Office address would
deal with things like, you know, war and peace. But
then there aren't any wars going on? Are there?

Speaker 1 (05:12):
Every good weekend? Richard Arnold, there's still after that playing
thing from Turkey last week where he swap planes. They're
still investigating that, and they're asking people to turn over
their phones to try and get to the bottom of
who leaked that, because they're arguing a major security issue.
And there's also a scrap. Speaking of New York, there's
this data center thing. The world's turning on data center.
So Hokeel, who's the New York governor, said there are

no more for now because we've got too many water
and power consumption problems. There are no more data centers,
to which Trump entered and go. You know, it's about jobs,
it's about money. You don't know what you're doing. So
that scrap's going on. But the whole discussion around data
centers globally is turning and remains as interesting as ever.
