A New Zealand clinical study's found plant-based weight loss alternatives can stimulate the same hormones targeted by the likes of Ozempic and Wegovy.

Calocurb researchers say participants lost an average of nearly four kilos over six months, compared with less than half a kilo for those taking a placebo.

The natural GLP-1 activator is made from Kiwi hops and vegetable oil and is designed to preserve lean muscle.

Calocurb CEO Sarah Kennedy told Mike Hosking it's changed the conversation around weight loss.

She says it stimulates a natural hormone to make people eat less.

Speaker 1 (00:00):
Another look at the GOLP one revolution, which is fascinating.

(00:02):
New study backed by the government funded Bioeconomy Science Institute
shows that plant based, a plant derived alternative can stimulate
the same hormones that are targeted by the likes of
a zempic. And we're going so, Sarah Kennedy is Kalaicub's
CEO and she's with us morning. Hi, Matt, where are
we at with the chicken and egg situation? Did you
get here before the glps or did they get there
before you were all sort of involved and unfolded at

(00:24):
the same time.

Speaker 2 (00:26):
Well, no, we got here a long time before. We
started this research, this New Zealand research in twenty ten.
So it's been sixteen years and thirty million dollars so far.

Speaker 1 (00:37):
So has the golp story of late pharmaceutically speaking helped
your cause in terms of awareness of what's possible?

Speaker 2 (00:45):
Oh totally. It totally changed the conversation around weight loss
and went away from it less move more to understanding
how weight loss is physiologically driven. We have a primitive
hindbrain which tells us to eat, and GLP one is
actually a natural hormone. We won't make in our body.

(01:05):
But with the synthetics, you're injecting them in with calicurb
we're stimulating them naturally. We're superstimulating them to make you
eat less.

Speaker 1 (01:14):
Okay, and what do I take? Do I take Powders pills?
What do I do?

Speaker 2 (01:19):
There're two very small pills there, one hundred percent natural.
They're actually made out of New Zealand hops. It's an
extract of a particularly a New Zealand hop with a
vegetaboil oil. And that's taken. It reduces your calorie intake
by eighteen percent. But Mike, the exciting thing was over
the weekend our fourth human clinical got published and Obesity

(01:41):
Pillars in America, and what it showed, which is just groundbreaking,
is that we help you lose weight but without the muscle.
So we lost ten in a six months placebo controlled trial.
People lost just an average of ten pounds of fat,
but absolutely no muscle. Now you know with injectibles they

(02:02):
will lose up to forty percent of muscle, So this
is incredible for us. It's all fat and no muscle.

Speaker 1 (02:10):
The muscle story has not been told, I don't think
yet has it in the sense that you're supposed to
stay eat healthy, and I'm just not sure that people
are having themselves necessarily do or anyone's following that up
and that might come back to buy to some future years.
Would that be fair?

Speaker 2 (02:24):
Oh? Absolutely, you're losing It's like this long yo yo.
You're losing forty percent or up to forty percent of muscle.
And listen, it's because of the rapid weight loss and
you're losing this muscle and you're losing it even you
know you're trying to get more protein and you're trying
to exercise that you're still losing muscle, which can be

(02:45):
a problem. As you ate. I want to say it again,
this is groundbreaking, this is New Zealand research. This has
been four years in the making, this clinical it was
one hundred and fifty people, ten pounds of fat and
no muscle. It's amazing.

Speaker 1 (03:01):
Just correct me if I'm wrong. But according to your number,
three point seven seven kgs after six months? Is that correct?
And if it is correct, that's less though than a
GLP one will do you jab yourself? Well?

Speaker 2 (03:12):
Interesting you asked that because there is a comparison to
a study of GLP one where they lost fourteen pounds
and twenty four. You remember this is twenty four weeks,
not sixty two, and we lost ten point four pounds, right,
so there's three pounds difference in that, and that's I'm
doing corrected for them because that's worth that's worth five

(03:36):
point five pounds of muscle.

Speaker 1 (03:39):
Well, you know, big picture, where do you reckon? This goes?
I think this is a revolution now. I mean, whether
it's pharmaceutical or natural doesn't really matter if it works
and it works. I mean, we're solving one of the
Western world's great problems, aren't we potentially?

Speaker 2 (03:53):
Oh no, it's brilliant. And this is natural. I mean
you may say natural or pharmaceutical. This is natural. It's
affordable and it works. So you know, at the moment,
ninety percent of our sales are in the US, and
we're just selling into the UK. Of course we sell
here in New Zealand as well, but this is extraordinary.
The other thing is we are stimulating your natural hormones.

(04:17):
We're not giving you any synthetic hormones, so we're kind
of rebooting and we're not kind of we are rebooting
your gut brain access.

Speaker 1 (04:25):
All right, sir, appreciated Sarah Kennedy Who's worth Keller curb
