Luke Metcalf is poised to leave the Warriors.

The NRL club have agreed to a request from Metcalf's management to talk with other clubs.

It's unclear whether they would allow an immediate release for the halfback, who only re-signed until 2028 late last year.

Metcalf has been unable to regain his halfback role since returning from injury with Tanah Boyd impressing in his absence and retaining the jersey.

Former Kiwis and Queensland Maroons Head Coach Sir Graham Lowe told Mike Hosking the situation highlights how the Warriors have grown.

He says Metcalf is a brilliant player and a game-breaker, but Boyd’s unlocked the whole team and is a key to their performance.

Speaker 1 (00:00):
Call.

Speaker 2 (00:00):
I mean last season, you couldn't see this coming in
a month of Sundays, could you be? Luke Metcalf is
most likely off. He's been given the go ahead to
go look for a new club as of next year.
That's despite signing that two year extinction just six months ago.
So Graham lows, well, that's Graham, how are you?

Speaker 1 (00:13):
Hell? Are you?

Speaker 2 (00:14):
Mike brilliant? This are the best of problems, I suppose
if you're looking glass, half fall is the best of problems.
Doesn't he got too much talent?

Speaker 1 (00:21):
I think it's a great problem. But it's also I
think highlighted how the Warriors have grown, how the whole
system of the Warriors has grown up in a way.
And I think it's fantastic that they've allowed Metcalf to
have a look around if he wants to. I mean,
if that's the case. But I also think it's fantastic
for a lot of people who are hoping to make

(00:41):
the grade at some stage, a talent boy has showed
them that being a tradesman will still hit you there.
You don't have to be a seper star, you just
got to be a good tradesman. And that's what he's done.
He's unlocked the power being a good tradesman, he's unlocked
the power of the club, of the team.

Speaker 2 (00:57):
Is Metcalf over mean, has it been unfortunate with the injury?
If he hadn't been so injured, it would have been different.

Speaker 1 (01:04):
Yeah, maybe so, but also might maybe the teamwork with
a balance of the of the side wouldn't have been
the same as it is with Tanner Boyd. But there's
no doubt about it. Metcalf's a brilliant player and he's
a game breaker and there's no doubt about that. But
the thing is with Tanner board he is a tradesman.
He does his job exceptionally well, and he's I think

(01:27):
he's unlocked the whole Warriors team. He's he's a key
to how they're performing, and I think the club's done
a fantastic or the coach that's done a great job
and keeping.

Speaker 2 (01:38):
Me do you think he's Is he so good? See
here's my problem with him. He can't kick. He can't kick,
and so my problem is no one points this out
because is he's so good with the rest of it,
they forget the fact he can't kick.

Speaker 1 (01:50):
Well, the thing is he mightn't be able to kick
might but they're coming second on the ladder, so he's
doing something right there. So it's still working for them.

Speaker 2 (02:00):
But you know what's going to happen, Grin, They're going
to lose by two or four one time and we're
going to go I want to shame you can't kick
and see all I'm doing is flagging a problem.

Speaker 1 (02:08):
I actually for the Thirst instance, the Warriors existence, I
actually I've got a brutal, big chance of winning at
this idea to be brad to say, I think you're
going to be really bright, point out a side that
can beat them. The Warriors can beat everywhere else as well,
and I think it's the first time they've been together.

(02:28):
And you've got to say the Tanner Board and the
Brave and I think the most one of the most
difficult parts about being the coach is selecting. And I
think coach is an outstanding job. He is.

Speaker 2 (02:40):
He's a winner, no question about that. Good catch up
with you. I'm sorry about the quality of phone at
the end there that prevented him from really saying out
loud this is our year, didn't it. I mean, basically
he wanted to say this is our year, but his
phone was cracking up at the end of it. For
