Speaker 1 (00:00):
Well, plenty happening around the place, plenty making local news headlines,
and I'm very pleased to say that joining me back
in the studio for the 11 o'clock hour, it is
our very own Kathleen Gazzola. Good morning to you, Kat.

Speaker 2 (00:13):
Good morning. Not for the whole hour.

Speaker 1 (00:14):
Oh, go on. Just stay in here. Help a sister out.

Speaker 2 (00:19):
Yeah, you're checking out, are you?

Speaker 1 (00:20):
Yeah, I'm nearly on holiday, so just... You know, zoning
out early. We can just talk about whatever we want
for an hour. Yeah, see, I mean, that's what we
generally do anyway, isn't it?

Speaker 2 (00:30):
Exactly.

Speaker 1 (00:30):
That's what our listeners do with us as well. Yeah,
that's it. Let us know what's on their mind each
and every day, which I love. Gives me something to
chat about, that's for sure. But we'd better get to
local news. I know there's lots making local news headlines
this morning. And, of course, news brought to you by
Motor Accidents Compensation. And I'm just trying to find my
bit of info there. But by Motor Accidents Compensation, if

(00:53):
you moved to the Territory recently, you must change or
update your registration within three months. Get NT registered today.
No rego, no cover.

Speaker 2 (01:01):
A teenager remains on the run after absconding from Holtz
Youth Detention Centre yesterday evening. NT Police say the 17-year-old
boy absconded from the facility on foot at about 6.45.
General duties, dog operations and drone units were deployed to
the area, but the teen remains at large. If you
have any information on his whereabouts, call police on 131 444.

(01:24):
A woman remains on the run after an alleged domestic
violence assault in Palmerston. NT Police say a man in
his 20s had been assaulted by a woman known to
him at a home in Woodroof on Tuesday evening. The
30-year-old woman is accused of assaulting the man with a
blunt weapon, causing a deep laceration to his back. She's
further accused of fleeing the scene before police arrived and
the man was taken to hospital in a stable condition.

(01:47):
Efforts are ongoing to locate the woman, with police urging
anyone with information to call 131 444. The future of
Luke Gosling's court case remains under a question mark, with
the NT Director of Public Prosecution still considering alternative arrangements.
The member for Solomon is accused of assaulting the NT administrator,
David Connolly, and allegedly breaching his bail. According to the ABC,

(02:11):
the NTDPP hasn't settled on what agency will prosecute the
case after a request from the Commonwealth to take carriage
of it was denied. The NTDPP told the national broadcaster
it should not have conduct of the matter because of
a perceived conflict of interest. Mr Gosling has categorically denied
all allegations against him, and says he will contest the

(02:33):
charges in court. And Australia's largest shark sighting app is
expanding into crocodile reports. The NT News reports the app's founder,
Sarah Beardmore, says the new feature could give Territorians a
clearer picture of where crocs are spotted. Launched in 2015,
the community-based app plans to introduce crocodile sightings by the

(02:55):
end of the year. Ms Beardmore says the company had
received requests for years from NT users, who wanted croc
sightings tracked. She said the app would support official reporting systems,
not replace them. I thought that was kind of timely
given what we talked about in your chat with Sam.

Speaker 1 (03:13):
Can you imagine like there's going to be so many spots,
it'll be all just totally filled.

Speaker 2 (03:18):
Yes, I think probably maybe more around the beaches. I
think that's what the app's generally used for, you know,
around down south where they see sharks at beaches. So
perhaps it's the same. We might have had, you know,
the caller who was at East Point, he saw the
croc down there, that would be an opportunity to report it.

Speaker 1 (03:34):
You do, you see them about. And somebody else had
messaged through and said, Katie, I cannot believe that that
person jumped in the water to save their dog and had,
you know, said that they and others at work were
smacking their foreheads. crocodile got my dog i'd try and
stop it somehow i don't know how i don't know
if i want to jump.

Speaker 2 (03:55):
In might depend on how big the animal is if
it's a four metering i think oh.

Speaker 1 (04:00):
Definitely not no thank you um yeah i yeah.

Speaker 2 (04:05):
It's a hard decision to make when you're in that
fight or flight right yeah.

Speaker 1 (04:09):
Yeah absolutely and you sort of go oh my goodness
if your beloved dog was being taken by a small
crocodile would you try poke it in the eyes or
something I don't know.

Speaker 2 (04:19):
Yeah, I don't know if they're as susceptible to that
as sharks.

Speaker 1 (04:23):
I don't know. On sharks, right? So there are so
many sharks as well out in our waters and people
just think, oh, yeah, we don't need to worry about that.
But you think, my goodness, who would ever put their
toes in the water in the Northern Territory between the sharks,
the crocodiles and the jellyfish?

Speaker 2 (04:39):
Just looking for trouble. Imagine those free divers, the spear fishermen.

Speaker 1 (04:42):
Oh, no.

Speaker 2 (04:43):
You know, especially when visibility isn't great in our harbour,
you know, anything could be coming at you.

Speaker 1 (04:49):
Anything could happen. Do you know, my son came home
from Andorra one day and said, I want to start spearfishing.
And my husband, I'm like, no, I don't think so, mate. Nip.
you're dreaming. He said, oh no, this bloke was, you know,
this bloke was spearfishing out at Mandora and came up
with like a massive barrow. I was like, yeah, you're
like a lure bouncing around in the water. Yeah, not wrong. No,

(05:11):
thank you.

Speaker 2 (05:12):
Yeah, it's not my idea of a good time, that's
for sure. I'd rather be in a metal vessel.

Speaker 1 (05:18):
The bigger, the better, I say.

Speaker 2 (05:19):
Absolutely.

Speaker 1 (05:20):
I would be, I'm a scaredy cat. There's no other
way to put it. But you know, young men, They
are adventurous, that is for sure.

Speaker 2 (05:27):
Yeah, I'm not looking forward to those conversations with my
son when he gets a bit older.

Speaker 1 (05:31):
I look forward to the phone calls that I'm surely
going to get from you. Hey, I did on a
more serious note as well. Gee, we have covered everything
this morning on the show. I did get a message
that says, hey, Katie, another mental health line is 13 Yarn.
This is for the First Nations people and the First
Nations people alike. they answer the calls as well. So

(05:53):
thank you very much for that message. I appreciate it.

Speaker 2 (05:55):
Yeah, there's been some really incredible advice and support and tips.
I think it is very important to reach out or
to take up that lifeline sort of thing if someone
does ask if you're okay and you're really not. It's
extremely important. I know I've certainly accessed opportunities to speak
to a psychiatrist when I haven't been dealing very well

(06:16):
and and found it extremely helpful yeah.

Speaker 1 (06:19):
Absolutely really really good advice Kathleen Gazzola, always a pleasure. Now,
I know our listeners are wondering, are you going on
holidays as well? Are you having next week off?

Speaker 2 (06:28):
I will be here next week reading the news with Sarah,
but then the following week I'll be off.

Speaker 1 (06:32):
And I'll tell you, I'm trying to talk her into,
just to our listeners, you know, at some point getting
to the point where she covers the show for us
down the track.

Speaker 2 (06:39):
Down the track.

Speaker 1 (06:40):
We'll get there. We'll get there.

Speaker 2 (06:41):
I need a bit more sleep, I think, to be
firing on all cylinders.

Speaker 1 (06:44):
I think you can do it with your eyes closed.
Thank you. And patting your head, you know. Kathleen, thank
you as always. Thank you.
