Speaker 1 (00:00):
I'll whip around the nation, but I've been talking about
some of the bits and pieces of news around the
nation quite a bit this hour because, yeah, blowing up
slightly is what I've been doing over Aaron Patterson with
the Ozempic. And then, of course, these changes to the algorithm. Well,
I'm not really blowing up over those. I don't mind

(00:20):
so much if that happens or not because it's an opt-in,
an opt-out. You get to decide how you see your feed.
But I did note, Kathleen Gazzola, that We just heard
Michaelia Cash in the national news sort of saying that
Anthony Albanese is going to choose what you see on
your feed.

Speaker 2 (00:35):
Yeah, I just don't think that's the right line to
try and play the political game. You know, surely there's
something else they could have gone after. I just don't,
I think that falls flat because you're kind of getting
a choice of what you want to do.

Speaker 1 (00:47):
Of what you choose.

Speaker 2 (00:48):
It's not Albanese deciding it one way or the other. Yeah.

Speaker 1 (00:50):
And look, I think they're trying to say that, you know,
it's taking things a bit too far or that, you know, the,
The federal government's kind of choosing what you will and
won't be able to see, but they're not choosing it.
You get to choose.

Speaker 2 (01:00):
Yeah, I mean, it's the big media company, the social
media companies that are currently deciding based on their AI algorithm.
It's not the federal government. I think that just falls flat.

Speaker 1 (01:09):
Well, look, not the only thing that the federal government's
making news headlines over this morning, though. Apparently the prime minister,
he has reportedly, according to the ABC online, held an
honorary membership at Marrickville Golf Club. which he's not declared
on his register of interest. So the golf club was
promised $ 6 million at the federal election and the money

(01:31):
awarded through a fund that heavily favoured Labor seats. But
I do note that Anthony Albanese has hit out at
the national broadcaster over reports that he failed to disclose
this honorary membership. And after an investigation by the Centre
for Public Integrity revealed that 73% of funds in a
$ 560 million community grants fund has been funnelled into Labor seats.

(01:56):
The Prime Minister claimed that he was not aware of
an honorary membership at the Marrickville Golf Club, which had
been one... He'd been one of those recipients of government... Well, sorry,
it had been a recipient of a government grant. And
he said 15 years ago, someone decided to say, oh,
we'll make him an honorary member. I don't have a card.
I don't go in there. I haven't been there for years.
I used to walk my dog along the path, he

(02:18):
told the ABC. He went on to claim that the
grant money... had been used by the club to prevent
raw sewage from flowing into the Cooks River during heavy
rains before hitting out at the ABC for their reporting
on the matter, saying the ABC were told information they
chose not to publish appropriately, he reckons. And he went
on to say the ABC chose to do this. That's

(02:39):
up to them. But I make no apologies for the
fact that this was fixed and the ABC should do better,
he reckons.

Speaker 2 (02:46):
Hmm.

Speaker 1 (02:47):
It's unusual to hear him blowing up at the ABC.

Speaker 2 (02:50):
It certainly is. It's usually his favourite broadcaster. I'm not
one to defend the national broadcaster. They do that themselves,
that's for sure. But, you know, as part of the
media industry, certainly having a dig at the media is
an easy way out for the pollies when they clearly
have been– Caught out, you know, I mean, maybe your
staff member didn't pass it on. But let's face it
that those, unfortunately, a big fan of sport, hate to

(03:13):
see sport used in those ways. But we both know
both Labor and the Coalition certainly played that pork barreling
way of funneling money into certain areas that helped their
people to win seats.

Speaker 1 (03:26):
Yeah, it happens like it happens all the time. And
it's just been blatant the past couple of goes, hasn't it?
It happens all the time, like on a federal and
territory or whichever state you live in.

Speaker 2 (03:36):
It's like an easy pick to put money into somewhere.

Speaker 1 (03:39):
Yeah. And, you know, some political parties make no kind
of apologies for it. Like they'll say, oh, so-and-so is
running in this seat. And then, you know, two months later,
if they get elected, this is what that sporting club's
going to receive. And so some of them are quite
kind of upfront about it. I just wonder, because you
do generally, my understanding of sort of registering your interests
or some of the clubs, et cetera, that you're involved in,

(04:01):
like they usually do that every single year. So if
Albo didn't know that he was an honorary member, like
you sort of go, how do you not know? But
then he, like it's obviously not been declared. And usually
like they're pretty upfront about that kind of thing.

Speaker 2 (04:17):
It's just like if you didn't know, hold your hands
up and go, whoops, didn't realise, forgot that one. I
think people are more likely to cop it rather than
be super defensive and move on the attack.

Speaker 1 (04:26):
Yeah, it's a bit off.

Speaker 2 (04:28):
Got under the skin a bit.

Speaker 1 (04:29):
It certainly sounds that way, doesn't it? Anyway, oh, look,

in Alice Springs. The 35-year-old prisoner collapsed at the Correctional

sources and the hard work of one of Strikeforce Trident's
newest members, they managed to track down the alleged offender.
Those are just two of the more than 300 offences
