Speaker 1 (00:00):
Now, I mentioned a little earlier that I'd received an
email overnight saying, well, this person was actually writing to
their local member and also to the council to advise
some of an incident that had happened last night where
I was woken by a young guy in his twenties
urinating on the front gate, who then started abusing their dog,
abusing them and their children because he's pissed at the gate,

(00:25):
urinating and then causing a ruckus and causing well trouble.
Now joining us on the line to tell us a
little bit more is that resident Mark. Good morning to you.

Speaker 2 (00:35):
Good morning, Katie.

Speaker 1 (00:36):
Tell me what happened last night.

Speaker 2 (00:39):
Oh, we were woken by this guy who was urinating
at our date. He was actually also trying to urinate
on our dog, and our dog we just didn't like it.
And then he started abusing us because our dog was
barking at him. He was intoxicated, and when we tried
to settle the situation, and he was telling us that

(01:02):
we were disrespecting him by interrupting him, and unfortunately, you know,
we did say to him that you know, you're actually
disrespecting us doing it at our front gate where my
kids you know, and everyone else can see as well.
So and I said to him, You've got a whole

(01:23):
park that you could have done it in, but you
decided at the front of our gate and try and
tease our dogs.

Speaker 1 (01:31):
Look, that would infuriate me. I mean, you're a pretty
calm person. I know that. What did What happened next?

Speaker 2 (01:40):
So when he could not get his way with us
in regards to telling us to shut our dog up,
he became actually quite violent. He grabbed our our gate.
He started shaking it quite violently violently. It did come
off the the roller. So that's when we rang Triple zero,

(02:05):
the Triple O call. I could hear him in the background.
He had some family there that was trying to calm
him down and asked us to ring the police as well.
So after about ten minutes of this, he decided to
start walking because we didn't engage him after that. And
after ten minutes of that, he decided to walk over

(02:26):
to the flats which are across the road from us,
and cause a little bit more racket over there.

Speaker 1 (02:33):
And then so you called the police. Did they end up?
Did they end up coming out to your residence?

Speaker 2 (02:39):
So no, after forty minutes I actually rang the one three, one,
triple four and canceled the police coming to my residence
because we weren't in any more danger. And I know
that the police has stretched the limits. I also know
that they're so busy, but because we're not in danger
anymore and all that, I rang them up and said
to him, look, we're safe, we don't need anymore. But

(03:04):
I've got young children, as you know, Katie, that all
were woken from this incident. And yeah, it's happening more
and more around the Malac area as well. And I
know it's happening everywhere else. I do understand that, but
it just seems to be the last couple of weeks
as there's been an increase in use walking around right.

(03:28):
There's also been an increase in drinking around in the
park area, especially at night. I have spoken to our
counsel in Sylvia to see if we can't put lights
in our parks, which she is working on to try
and deter this anti social bavior.

Speaker 1 (03:47):
Well, and look, it sounds like it's needed. I know
that a couple of nights ago as well, there were
two youths trying to break into your neighbors home. She's
eighty years old.

Speaker 2 (03:57):
Yeah, my next or neighbor who's quite upset about it.
She hasn't slept for the last couple of nights. She's
now put an alarm on her cameras which will alert
us if she is in trouble as well, so we'll
kind of assist her if she need it. But she's

(04:18):
got emphaseema as well as she's elderly living by herself,
so she's actually, yeah, she was quite scared for her life.

Speaker 1 (04:30):
I bet like I would be as well. That's a
frightening situation for her. Mark tell me, I know that
you also emailed the local member. Have you had any
word back yet from Brian.

Speaker 2 (04:41):
Yes, So Brian's actually come back and both Sylvia and
Brian have engaged the superintendent of the Caterina Police Station
as well as some anti local agencies to start doing
some more work around the Casina area. But yeah, it's

(05:02):
becoming a big problem, I think in all of our
suburb where you know, it is becoming quiet. The other
day I woke up to five or six years walking
around throwing stones, dogs and people's properties, and that was
that two o'clock in the morning.

Speaker 1 (05:24):
And the thing is like some of it. You might go, oh,
that's not criminal behavior, or you might say, all right,
we'll throwing stones. You know, some people listening might go, okay,
well that's at the lower end of the scale. It
actually doesn't matter because the more that you get away with,
you know, the more that you have somebody rocking up
to your gate, urinating on your fence, thinking that they

(05:44):
can do what they want, the more that there are
youth walking around in the night, you know, the more
trouble that eventually happens. And if you don't sort of
stop it early on and don't you know, disperse people
early on, that's where you see these issues escalate. Now.
I mean even with your neighbor having people trying to

(06:04):
break in, that is incredibly frightening. It's quite debilitating for
an elderly person to have to deal with that.

Speaker 2 (06:12):
Absolutely, And that was at three o'clock in the morning,
and she didn't sleep for the rest of the night.
I saw her the next day and she was absolutely racked.
I said, look, go for a sleep. I'm happy to
look after your property and look around. I'm here for
the entire day, so I'll just come and see how
you're going through the day. Just so you can get

(06:34):
a proper night's sleep. So, and what I'm going to say,
Katie is I'm encouraging everyone to write to their local
members and counselors because sometimes they actually don't get told
about some of these and what they are trying to
do is paint a picture to be able to help

(06:55):
the different suburbs around as well. So I must have
been Council of Sylvia as well as Brian are actually
quite proactive in this area and they want as much
evidence as possible. So even if it's just a small thing,
let them know.

Speaker 1 (07:11):
Yep, I agree with you. I think otherwise, you know,
these things just happen and the behavior deteriorates further and
the issues escalate. So I think that's a really good idea.
