Speaker 1 (00:00):
The territory football community is rallying behind a special event
for a really special young woman. It's aimed at supporting recovery,
strength and hope really following the injury of young Rosemary
while she was playing football last month. Now you recall
we spoke to her coach who said that she was
in Adelaide being treated. So Rosemary's Round is going to

(00:21):
be held at Raiders Oval on July twelve, bringing together
the girls aged ten to seventeen for a fun filled
footy gala day focused on participation, connection and community spirit.
And joining me in the studio from the Sharks Football Club,
the under fifteen girls manager Danny Everily, Good morning to you.

Speaker 2 (00:41):
Danny. Good morning Katie. Thanks for having me in. It
is lovely to.

Speaker 1 (00:43):
Have you on the show. Now tell me you're helping
in the organization of this. How did it all come about?

Speaker 3 (00:50):
So, Katie, the obviously the injury for Rosemary, it's traumatic.
It was a freak accident and has really impacted the
whole footy community. The Raiders family really rallied behind and
then that's rallied the rest of the footy community and
the go fundme that Marie Greenwood started has been absolutely

(01:14):
wonderful and will provide significant support for the family.

Speaker 2 (01:19):
What we're doing now.

Speaker 3 (01:21):
Is it's really it's been led from a lot of
the girls across the different clubs who have said to me,
you know, we want to do something, but what could
we do. You know, it's not like they're at that
age all at work and can put a heap of
money towards the go fundme, and so we come up
with this idea of bringing them together in a really

(01:42):
fun way where they can do a bit of around
robin type event. They won't be they won't be playing
with their own club teammates, they won't be possibly playing
with their own age groups. It's just going to be
a bit of fun, a bit more like a touch
football style.

Speaker 2 (02:01):
Round and maybe.

Speaker 3 (02:02):
We'll make up some rules as we go, just to
have a bit of fun exactly, and all in Rosemary's name.

Speaker 2 (02:09):
So we'll have some raffles on the day.

Speaker 3 (02:12):
As well, and any funds that we've got there we
will be then providing.

Speaker 2 (02:18):
Back to the family.

Speaker 3 (02:20):
But we're also going to be providing some funds through
to Spinal Fund Australia, who not only do research into
a spinal cure or spinal injury cures, but they also
help families through a number of different ways that have
been impacted by spinal cord injuries.

Speaker 1 (02:38):
Yeah, and look, I know you're not a spokesperson for
the family, so I'm not expecting you to speak out
of turn here or anything. But how's she tracking?

Speaker 2 (02:45):
Do you know? She's okay?

Speaker 3 (02:49):
So and as you say, like, I'm not a spokesperson
for the family, and even through this process, Marie from
the Raiders, who has been the person you know, or
along with the coach obviously working with the family, So
we're not adding an additional person, you know, making contact.

Speaker 2 (03:07):
That's just you know, out of respect more than anything.

Speaker 3 (03:11):
And so probably respectfully as well, I'll.

Speaker 2 (03:15):
Say, she's exactly.

Speaker 1 (03:17):
That's all right. Look, this is I think this is
a really lovely thing to do to show Rosemary that
support as well. You know, the raising money is excellent,
but for her to see all the girls that she
plays with, all the girls that she plays against, coming
together for her, I reckon, it's a wonderful thing. If like,

(03:37):
it gives me goosebumps just thinking about the young girls
wanting to do that for her.

Speaker 3 (03:42):
Meet her, Katie and you know who knows. If this
goes well, it could be something that we have every year.
So it's a non league round, so it's just before
the girls go or before everybody goes back to school,
just to the holidays, and so it's you know, it
won't be a competition round anything like that. It purely

(04:03):
is an event in Rosemary's name.

Speaker 2 (04:07):
So what day is.

Speaker 1 (04:08):
It happening and do you still need sponsors?

Speaker 3 (04:10):
Absolutely Sunday, the twelfth of July, So the event itself
will go from ten am to two pm, so you know,
right in the beautiful part of the day, but in
the middle of the dry season, so it'll be wonderful. Yeah, tough,
trust me, they are.

Speaker 2 (04:30):
Yes, So we are.

Speaker 3 (04:33):
We are keen to have anyone on board. And what
we've suggested is a three hundred dollars sponsorship, so coming
to the end of the financial year, you never know,
businesses might have that little bit of extra cash that
they're able to put somewhere and to such.

Speaker 2 (04:51):
A good cause.

Speaker 3 (04:52):
And then for the girls themselves that are interested in playing,
it'll be a ten dollars registration fee, and then for
spectators it'll be ten dollars.

Speaker 2 (05:04):
For adults five dollars for youth and then the little
is will be free, but all.

Speaker 1 (05:09):
Going towards some of course that you had spoken about there. Now,
how can people get involved If they're listening this morning
and they're thinking, well, first off, I want my daughters
to play, or I want what you know, what about
if they're listening and they're going, actually I want the
boys to support them as well.

Speaker 3 (05:22):
Look, we want the boys there, Yeah, absolutely, we want
the boys there, running water. We want the boys there,
you know, cheering on the girls. This isn't yes it's
a it's a girl's on the field playing, but that
doesn't mean that any other gender is not welcome. So
we want we want the boys there selling the raffle tickets,

(05:43):
you know, shaking the tin, serving the soft drinks or yeah,
making sure the water is there and just having fun
there to support.

Speaker 2 (05:53):
Yeah, yeah, I agree with you.

Speaker 1 (05:55):
So jump online. They can have a bit of a
look on the Raiders page. They can have a look
on the Sharks page. I'm sure you're all all.

Speaker 2 (06:00):
Spreading the word.

Speaker 3 (06:01):
Absolutely absolutely, every club is behind it, naturally, and you know,
we really we just want everybody to come along and really,
you know, understand and recognize that there has been a
traumatic incident and it was a freak accident that is
going to impact a poor young a young woman's life.

(06:24):
And so with that, we don't want it to be morbid.
This isn't it's not about you know, reflecting in a
sad negative way, and that's why it really is about
that have fun, connection, community and yeah, all good stuff.

Speaker 1 (06:42):
Well, Danny, I did get in contact with the Dolphins
and I think they've been in contact with her family
with the message for Rosemary. So yeah, so hopefully, and
I am sure that there's going to be a lot
of people attending this event. So it's called Rosemary's Round.
Is that what it's called?

Speaker 2 (06:58):
Correct?

Speaker 3 (06:59):
I love it.

Speaker 2 (07:00):
I love it.

Speaker 1 (07:01):
I think let doors.

Speaker 3 (07:04):
Does.

Speaker 1 (07:04):
It's so good, Danny, thank you as always for coming
into the studio and having a talk with me and day.
I wish Rosemary all the best, but I hope that
this day goes fantastically as well, and that you goals
and guys raise plenty of money.

Speaker 2 (07:18):
Awesome, Thanks so much, thank you, Thanks so much.
