Speaker 1 (00:00):
Very excitingly this sat Well, the Saturday, the twenty ninth
of November, the Catherine is going to be celebrating one
of the most important community infrastructure milestones with the public
reopening of the transformed Catherine Aquatic Center. Joining me on
the line to talk a little more about it is
the Mayor of Catherine, Joanna Holden. Good morning, Joanna.
Speaker 2 (00:24):
Good morning, Katie. How are you this morning.
Speaker 1 (00:26):
I'm very good and I'm guessing that you guys in
Catherine are pretty excited about the reopening of the pool.
Speaker 2 (00:34):
I think so. I think we are more excited than
you are to go on holiday tomorrow.
Speaker 1 (00:41):
Maybe not. We might be a close tie. Oh, Joanna,
it's awesome because you guys have I mean, it's been
a lot of work, right and I know that there's
been criticism about the pool being closed and all that
kind of stuff, but I bet everybody is so pleased
(01:02):
that you know that official opening is happening.
Speaker 2 (01:06):
Look, Katie, it has and the community has been very
patient with the time that it has taken, but it
is going to be well worth the wait. We have
a fantastic facility to do the public opening on Saturday,
and then the official opening on the thirteenth of December.
We've got this beautiful new splash pad for the younger children.
(01:27):
I've actually tried it out myself, and I can let
you know that the bucket does a great job splashing water.
So look, I recognize that the community has been waiting,
and as you know, the weather at this time of
the year, and the community went through it last year
without the pool. You know, it's hot. People are looking
for somewhere to go. But yes, the thing is we've
(01:50):
got a bigger and better facility now because of the
works that have gone on.
Speaker 1 (01:55):
So Johanna, can you tell us a little bit more
about what people can expect or would that be given
too much away?
Speaker 2 (02:02):
Oh, I suppose it's getting close to Christmas, so maybe
I should just keep it a surprise. Maybe I don't know. No,
eleven o'clock on Saturday. It's free entry, So it all
starts at eleven o'clock and we'll go till four o'clock.
We've got a free barbecue and free super dupers and
(02:25):
we'll have a few other bits and pieces happening. So
that's this Saturday, the twenty ninth, at eleven o'clock. And
then on the thirteenth of December at ten am, we
will be having the official opening ceremony with the cutting
of the ribbon, and then following the official ceremony, we
are planning on having a big, cool party. I won't
(02:45):
go into a lot of details about that, but I
can say that there will be lots of fun and
games and activities and it will all be free, how wonderful.
Speaker 1 (02:54):
And in terms of the facility, how like, is it
gonna be quite different to what it was previously.
Speaker 2 (03:01):
So the original pool is there and that has been
religned and had some you know, maintenance works done on it.
There is a new twenty five meter pool which also
has access for people that have mobility need issues, which
I think is fantastic. We haven't previously had that, so yeah,
so it's twenty five meter pool, and then we have
(03:23):
a space pan, which we haven't previously had. So they're
the new items. We don't have the little baby pool
that people may remember previously because that's now been replaced
with the other items. And then we've had you know,
there's some changes to the pump room and some of
the buildings there that you know, obviously are needed to
run the pool itself. So no, so it's yeah, I
(03:45):
guess in some ways, yes, there it's a big differences,
but the old pool is still there as well, so.
Speaker 1 (03:51):
It's going to be fantastic. I know. I've had my
kids there for swimming carnivals over the years as well.
When Catherine holds there are they're swimming carnival the swimming club.
You've got such a strong little swimming club there as
well in Catherine, so I am sure that all of
those regulars will be really happy to get back into
the water, get back into their training.
Speaker 2 (04:11):
Yep. Absolutely, the Catherine Turtles are a fantastic swimming club.
They delivered o'connival here in Catherine not long ago using
its defence's pool. But yes, I know they're looking forward
to it, and I think the parents, who I know,
fifteen minutes doesn't seem far, but when you're in Catherine
and you get survive that it's fifteen minutes, you know
(04:32):
it adds up for you. So yes, so they're certainly
looking forward to getting back to their training ground. And yes,
and we need them to because you know, we need
our future Olympians coming out of that pool spot on.
Speaker 1 (04:44):
And it's such like I just think it's so wonderful
when you've got young people and whatever age you are,
but particularly with some of our young ones that are
engaged in a really positive activity nearly every day. That's
what we want to say, right.
Speaker 2 (05:00):
Absolutely, Katie, it is. It's a positive activity. It has
benefits for your health, for your well being, and we
know that kids that are doing things like swimming or
playing sport achieve at school as well, so you know
there's all these flow on effects from having a facility
such as the pool and having a swimming club that
(05:20):
invests into our young people.
Speaker 1 (05:21):
Yeah, you spot on. Hey Joanna for our listeners in
Catherine this morning, just remind us what time do they
need to be there on the weekend. When's it all
kicking off?
Speaker 2 (05:31):
Thank you, Katie. Eleven o'clock on Saturday the twenty ninth
is when we will be kicking off for our unofficial
opening of the Catherine Pool with a free barbecue and
super dupers. So it'd be great to have as many
people as we can down there for Saturday. But just
on one thing to Katie, just so people are aware
(05:52):
we are opening on Saturday, but we will be closing
on these seconds through to the fourth we are waiting
on a shade. We need to get a shade up
over the brand new twenty five meter pool, and so
that will be happening between the second and the fourth.
We'll be open again for the swimming canal on the fifth,
and then we'll be closing again on the weekend the
sixth and seventh again to just finish off those shade
(06:14):
works and a few other bits and pieces.
Speaker 1 (06:16):
Yeah, fair enough, no, fair enough, well, Catherine mayre Joanna Holden.
It is always great to catch up with you. Thank
you for your time this morning.
Speaker 2 (06:25):
No, thank you, Katie, and you enjoy your well deserved break.
Speaker 1 (06:29):
I will thank you
