Well, so much on the agenda this morning, and we
know that it's always a busy time for our paramedics
for Saint John. And joining us on the line is
Sam Kalek, the director of Ambulance Services with Saint John.

Speaker 2 (00:13):
Good morning, Sam, Good morning Katie. How are you?

Speaker 1 (00:16):
Yeah? Really good, wonderful to have you on the show
And Sam, looks like a busy weekend on Friday evening
seven point thirty Dudley Point Cliffs.

Speaker 2 (00:26):
What happened here? Look, we were called to respond to
a fifteen year old male who fell while attempting to
climb on the on the cliffs and he just located
his shoulder, but thankfully and bystanders got him up to
the top of said cliffs and we were able to
transport him in a stable condition to the World Armen Hospital.

Speaker 1 (00:46):
So wow, So like a teenager. So they were climbing
up there and obviously have it like I'm assuming thinking
they're going to have a bit of fun, but not
so fun then when you end up injured.

Speaker 2 (00:56):
Yeah, not a fun the outcome unfortunately. But obviously there
was a good intention jumping for I mean, but unfortunately
that end up injured in a difficult position yeah, it.

Speaker 1 (01:05):
Sounds like it now. Then on Saturday, Koler linga a
two vehicle quad bike collision. What happened there, Sam.

Speaker 2 (01:13):
Yeah, looked very early in the morning. Two riders did
have a have a collision to sustain some facial injuries
and we transported both of those again through to the
Royal Darwin Hospital and stable conditions.

Speaker 1 (01:25):
And then there was another one Humpty do a little
bit later in the day.

Speaker 2 (01:29):
Yes, the thirty five year old Mail with a collarbone
injury and obviously some chest pain as well from a
quad buggy rollover, again transported to the Royal Darwin in
a stable condition.

Speaker 1 (01:39):
Now, there was a lot of events on the weekend
as well, Sam, We know that it was a busy weekend,
well in the top end of course, with the glenty
as well as well plenty happening with Baranga. There was
a ride against cancer as well, lots on, But you
guys were kept pretty busy at the Fink Desert Race. Unfortunately,

some really sad news out of the Fank.

Speaker 2 (02:04):
Yeah. Look, and first of all, I just wanted to
extend our deepest condolences and sympathies to the family and
the friends of the writer who passed away. In addition,
we also treated fifty people on the track. Twenty of
those were transported through to our Springs Hospital for further treatment.
We about twenty paramedics there and thirty volunteers and some

doctors as well supporting that event.

Speaker 1 (02:27):
Doing an incredible job. It would have been very very busy,
I would imagine, And you know, we know about the
terrible fatality, but I'm guessing that there's probably always quite
a few injuries.

Speaker 2 (02:41):
Yes, look, heaps of injuries through throughout the race for
those who come off at high speed, and of course
we're there to treat it, like I say, pops in
those fifty people on the track and provide some treatment
at the event and then of course transport those who
need it to ongoing care.

Speaker 1 (02:56):
Now the glenty unfortunately, it looks like dehydra was a
bit of a factor. There was a number of people
that needed to be treated for dehydration.

Speaker 2 (03:05):
Was there. He was a very very warm day. I
was there myself. We have thirty volunteers cross both our junior,
youth and adult divisions supporting that weekend, and that was
one of the biggest things there. People weren't hydrated and
so it's an important message for everyone this dry season.
Keep up your fluid intake when you're out there in
the sun.

Speaker 1 (03:22):
Yeah, and it's you know, like we sort of thought,
oh it's a dry season, it's not so warm, but
it was quite dry. Like that was I guess that
was the other interesting part of it.

Speaker 2 (03:33):
Very dry and people are out there enjoying the Greek
festival and the music and the food, and sometimes people
just forget to hydrate.

Speaker 1 (03:41):
Now, Sam, we know that tomorrow is we'll thank a
First Responder Day. Tell us what's going to be happening
for the day.

Speaker 2 (03:49):
Well, look, we want all schools across the territory are
encouraged to get involved. I think is First respond To Day.
There's some free downloable classroom resources on our website and
also at Harvey Norman tomorrow. I'm going to be there
about eight o'clock. Awesome, that are we there? There's coffee,
this food. I mean, it's just there just encouraging people

to get around and think first responders across the territory.

Speaker 1 (04:13):
Oh, it's a fantastic thing to do. Our first responders
do an incredible job and you know, sometimes under really
difficult circumstances, so I think it's a great opportunity to
recognize the work that not only Saint John do, but
all of our wonderful first responders.

Speaker 2 (04:29):
Absolutely, that was that that fire police. Of course, there's
so many first responders across the territory and it's just
a wonderful thing we can all do for them well.

Speaker 1 (04:38):
And as you touched on before as well, we've got
some incredible volunteers like that are so often at some
of the some of those different events. They're the first
to respond to different incidents too.

Speaker 2 (04:49):
Absolutely, and mister I season with so many different events,
you'll see volunteers from Saint John at a lot of
boats and it's really important data to say thank you well.
