Speaker 1 (00:00):
It's the scorches ball at born in Busselton from Dunsborough,
Lance Morris, morning Lance mate, having me on, that's all right.
You're on the freeway at the moment, on your way
to training.

Speaker 2 (00:10):
Yeah, heading into Optors. It's actually nice to have not
too much traffic on the road.

Speaker 1 (00:14):
Yeah, oh good, Okay, well there's an early heads up
on the traffic. It's not too busy on the on
the freeway. Mate. You probably don't get to spend much
time down south around this time of year anymore, No.

Speaker 2 (00:28):
Unfortunately not. I absolutely love it down there. But yeah,
obviously cricket takes precedents these days. So yeah, I'm flying
out to Hobart as you said in.

Speaker 1 (00:37):
The next couple of days, yep, and off the back
of a first up win and a good one too
against the Melbourne Stars back on Sunday at home at
the Furnace. You guys are winning by six wickets seventeen
balls to spare. And how about that crowd when you
walked out onto the field.

Speaker 2 (00:55):
Yeah, always good, always good at Optus. I think it
was awesome to have a real big crowd to the
opening game and I think well, the sounds of the
boxing day game when we get back into town will
be even bigger.

Speaker 1 (01:07):
Yeah, well it's going to be. It's going to be
a big one to top. Just over thirty thousand. It
was the biggest crowd ever for a Big Bash opener
anywhere in Australia and only the fourth time that the
Big Bash at pre Christmas has attracted over thirty thousand,
and that, of course there was another million or so
just watching on TV, so you know, no pressure.

Speaker 2 (01:28):
That's it mate, It's awesome. I think Big Bash obviously
there was a little bit of slump in ratings over
COVID and things like that, but it definitely feels like
crowds are back and people were interested again for sure.

Speaker 1 (01:39):
Yeah, definitely fired up. So as you say, it's now
off to Hobart in a couple of days, you guys,
well you'll get to avoid the heat wave over here anyway,
so that's one thing to look forward to. Playing the
Hurricanes won't be quite such a friendly crowd over there,
won't be as big a crowd, but they certainly won't
make you feel welcome.

Speaker 2 (02:00):
That's it mate. Yeah, it's going to be a good
challenge and Hurricanes always roll out a pretty good outfit,
so it'll be hopefully a good game.

Speaker 1 (02:08):
Yeah. So look, it's very early in the season, you've
only just played your opening game. But you guys getting
any feeling of which team is the one is the
one to beat for the for the ultimate prize this BBL.
Who are you most scared of?

Speaker 2 (02:25):
It's always the same culprits really. I think Sydney six
is relatively unchanged over the last few years. Brisbane Heat
are looking really strong as well, so and then there's
the likes of I think Renegades have a great team
on paper as well. So there's some start power all
around the tournament which is exciting.

Speaker 1 (02:44):
And you've certainly made your impact. You've got a couple
of handy wickets back on the weekends.

Speaker 2 (02:50):
Yeah, it was good to get a couple away there.
I started a little bit slow but got into it nicely.
So yeah, it's nice to be back out there for sure.

Speaker 1 (02:58):
Poor old Hilton Cartwrights didn't well, you put his body
on the line and uh and ended up getting stretched off.
Any word, have you heard on on how he's doing.

Speaker 2 (03:10):
Yeah, that's really Hilts is all clear of anything serious,
so I think he's already back over in Melbourne with
the team. He he dies around all the time and
puts his body on the line. So we love we
love Hilts. He's a w a guy and hopefully he's
all good for the rest of the tournament.

Speaker 1 (03:26):
Yeah, now mate, you've we've had the blurb come through here.
You've earned the nickname the wild Thing. Now, that's not
few efforts off the field, is it? That? That is
on the field?

Speaker 2 (03:39):
On field?

Speaker 1 (03:39):
From field of course? Officially officially, But you know, you're
incredibly fast bowler. You've you've really shocked a few people
since you're since your debut. How how does that? How
do you keep yourself nice and fit, because obviously, when

(04:00):
you're bowling that fast, you're putting your body under a
lot of stress. You must have to really manage yourself.

Speaker 2 (04:06):
Yeah, one hundred percent. I think I've got a lot
better over the last couple of years in managing it.
It's just an element of fast bowling that you you
can you can control to an extent, but there's some
things also that you know, it's just bad luck as well.
So yeah, doing that little one the Sanders obviously jumping
in the ice bath on the massage bed. Yeah, hopefully

(04:30):
hold you in. Good to be on the park for
as long as possible.

Speaker 1 (04:33):
Yeah all right, Well, like we said, you're heading off
to training at Optics today. Just get another feel for
that because you guys will be back there playing what
was on Boxing day, isn't it that? Hopefully we're going
to get a massive, massive crowd before you head out
to the airport in the next couple of days to
take on the Hurricanes, and we're hoping, we're hoping for

(04:54):
another win. Two from two would be nice before you
come home and then you know, notch up the thing
winning a row, get yourself a really good start. Take
on the sixers in the heat who you know on
the Renegades, As you said, they're the ones to beat
this season.

Speaker 2 (05:09):
Absolutely mate, good start of the season. Hopefully we can
keep the ball rolling.

Speaker 1 (05:13):
Well yeah, well we're relying on you, Lance, no pressure.
I'll let you continue away along the freeway. Good to
hear that. That's not too bad. Thanks for your time
this morning, Lance, and yeah, go and chalk up another
win mate.

Speaker 2 (05:28):
Thanks for having me on
