Speaker 1 (00:00):
That and all the other songs at the Regal Theater
from tonight until July nineteen, when mamay A launched His
tickets are available through ticke Tech and Wabra Alarm. Tanil
Benzel is joining us. Good morning morning. This is a
full circle moment because you, I believe you made your
debut in Mama Mia. Yeah, but as Sophie's understudy, because.
Speaker 2 (00:20):
It was all those yeah yeah, yeah, long twenty four
years all right, yeah, yes, I was in the ensemble
and I got to cover Sophie. So that was a
real thrill.
Speaker 1 (00:36):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (00:37):
Absolutely. So you get a crowd tonight, hey, yes, it
is wonderful all the work that's gone.
Speaker 2 (00:42):
Yeah yeah, first preview tonight, So it'd be wonderful to
hear everyone singing and dancing along.
Speaker 1 (00:47):
So yeah, great, So audience participation is encouraged.
Speaker 2 (00:52):
Absolutely. Yes.
Speaker 1 (00:55):
Now you're playing Rosie, famously played by Julie Walters just
Adore in the movie Wonderful of Fun. How much fun
play this character?
Speaker 2 (01:03):
Yeah? This character is. She does provide a little bit
of comic relief in the show. She gets to sing
take a Chance, which is just a well known ABBA song,
and she is one third of the Dynamos. So we
also get to sing Dancing Queen, which is lots of fun,
a real treat.
Speaker 1 (01:23):
Yes, I mean, is there any do you have a
favorite a song?
Speaker 2 (01:29):
It would be yes, absolutely, and you should hear Alithia
Sartarelli who's playing on our singers sense chills absolutely. But
I would have to say, and probably now that I
have small children, Elliott and Evelyn, we slipping through my
fingers is probably the most really heart wrenching one for me.
Speaker 3 (01:49):
I think it's a bit more poignant.
Speaker 4 (01:51):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, so yeah, show like this there must
be times when you go, wow, I'm working, but it
doesn't like it just feels like credible firm.
Speaker 2 (02:02):
Yeah, and particularly this show, it just has got such
a joyful effervescence about it, and the music is so
familiar it just really warms the heart. And I have
to say, the two lovely ladies that are the other Dynamos,
we're very good friends. So we're having a real wonderful
time and it's just such a.
Speaker 3 (02:22):
Treat finding your spots and finding your marks very professional. Absolutely,
that's correct.
Speaker 1 (02:30):
This is a one Perth show, Perth cast, Perth production
and only on in Perth.
Speaker 2 (02:35):
Yes, that's right. Yeah, so just at the Regal for
for the next few weeks and yes, a full Perth production.
Speaker 1 (02:42):
So the really Perth.
Speaker 2 (02:44):
Talent is just incredible and the creatives have just brought
together such a wonderful, amazing show.
Speaker 1 (02:52):
So do you feel more comfortable or more nervous when
you're performing for a home crowd? Crowd, I you know
there's going to be someone you know.
Speaker 2 (03:06):
Yeah, I usually find the audition process a little more
nerve recognize. So the actual performing side of it is
like I sort of feel quite at home there. Yeah,
So I'm being on stage is just the best place.
Speaker 3 (03:22):
I want to call you, miss Hanigan, because I've seen Annie,
You've done a lot, You've got a lot of shows
under your belt now quite a career. Must be must
be a great feeling to have that success, but also
to perform in front of friends and family. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (03:37):
Absolutely, Yeah, I'm doing the big touring shows. You know,
there's there's I never quite got the opportunity to come
home to Perth because I grew up in Perth, but
I never quite got the opportunity to come home with
those shows. So I've been really fortunate over the past
couple of years to get to do a few local
Perth productions and get to work with professional Perth companies here,
(03:57):
which is just fantastic. Yes, so that's that's been a
really nice thing. And then my children have been able
to come and see me too, which.
Speaker 1 (04:07):
Also well. Those some of those shows include Wicked, Any
Guys and Dolls, Rocky Horr, Doctor Chicago, which you were
nominated for a Helpman Award for. What is there a
role or production on your wish list which you've never
got to do? Yes, so many yet.
Speaker 2 (04:24):
Maybe Chicago. I don't know if my dancing skills quite
up to physic I'd have to say Fontine in Lamy. Okay, Yeah,
that would absolutely be my legit musical theater dreams.
Speaker 3 (04:39):
Yeah, speaking of dreams, costume mind back and think of
Tiny to Neil on the set of Ship to Shore.
Could you have ever imagined what were your hopes and
dreams deck there?
Speaker 2 (04:47):
Well? It just for me, It was always what I
wanted to do. Yeah, it was very clear from very
early age that this was going to be something that
I pursued. So yes, I think Little to Neil would
be pretty excited about it. What I've done over the
past twenty thirty.
Speaker 1 (05:07):
Years and you went to Whopper, which is you know,
we think it's the greatest theater school going around. Yeah,
and there's plenty of people that wouldn't dis agree with us, no,
that have come out.
Speaker 2 (05:18):
Of there, that's right. Yes, very well known Perth people
such as Tim Mention and Lucy you out so many yep, yep, yep.
Speaker 3 (05:30):
Name Jackman. But I'm a nerd. I'd get the broch
I'd be at the books when you go into the
shows and I look through and there's so many of
the cast of every sharp you're so brochure.
Speaker 1 (05:40):
Book did you get it? Time, time, ground record, interval.
Speaker 3 (05:47):
Record, And I'm looking through it on so so many
Whopper grads. All of the cuts shows in the brochure.
Speaker 2 (05:54):
Six of us were cast in the original Muma Mia
straight out of back in two thousand and one. So yeah,
it creates just those fundamental skills to really launch into
a very competitive.
Speaker 1 (06:08):
Very competitive well it's coming full circle tonight from that
that first performance. Rosie, we can't wait to see you
on stage. Thanks for coming into now, Thank you so
much for having me early for you, you know your
thanks to keep it warm, not a problem
