Is a previously used engagement ring bad luck or just practical? In this entertaining episode, Hayley & Max dive into a relationship conundrum that's dividing opinions. When Burgo reveals his ex-turned-current partner Lauren insists on a brand new ring for any future proposal, despite already owning a family heirloom ring with added diamonds, it sparks a heated debate. With thousands already spent on the original ring (which now sits on a different finger), should tradition and superstition win over practicality and finances?

Speaker 1 (00:10):
I heard podcasts here more mix one or two point
three podcasts, playlists and listen live on the free iHeart app.

Speaker 2 (00:17):
You can slide into our DMS whenever you like and
we will sort that problem out for you on the radio.
But someone who slid into our DMS is Burgo in
the studio.

Speaker 1 (00:26):
He sends me a lot of dms, a lot of
them AI generated reals.

Speaker 2 (00:30):
Yeah, I get them too.

Speaker 1 (00:31):
This was a more serious one.

Speaker 2 (00:33):
This is a what do you think of this? And
I think it's going to be quite divisive.

Speaker 3 (00:38):
It's just like I've had a couple of conversations with
a couple of people and I thought, you know, I
need adelaide to settle it once and for all. Basically,
my ex slash situation ship slash baby mama Lauren, who's
your business.

Speaker 1 (00:50):
Partner and my best friend? Your best friend, your sort
of together well there's no.

Speaker 3 (00:55):
Official label, but we're in a very good place. Yeah,
And we have all sorts of future conversations around what
will happen with this, and what will happen with the houses,
and what will happen if you know, will we ever
get married if things kept going in the right direction,
And she said, if we ever decided to get married,
you would have to repropose with a brand new ring

(01:17):
because we were engaged before.

Speaker 1 (01:19):
Yeah, can I put that out there? You were engaged.
You have previously bought her a ring, which what's the
current state of that ring?

Speaker 3 (01:26):
Where is it? It's in her ownership.

Speaker 2 (01:28):
I haven't seen her grandma's diamonds.

Speaker 3 (01:32):
To which I added two other diamonds at a cost
of several thousand.

Speaker 2 (01:35):
I would say, I feel like, because when you guys
got engaged in that you actually you actually broke up
because of the COVID the wedding was can you couldn't?

Speaker 1 (01:46):
Yeah?

Speaker 2 (01:47):
So I feel like that ring has is a bad omen.
I feel like you should you can use No, I
feel like.

Speaker 1 (01:53):
You could reuse the stone.

Speaker 2 (01:54):
No, no, you can reuse Grandma's stone, but you'd have
to make a completely different whole research because at this
stage it's got it's got bad vibes, got bad.

Speaker 1 (02:03):
Such an easy thing to say. When you don't have
to spend like Jack brand on a new.

Speaker 2 (02:08):
You could potentially do it together. You could put the
money in together.

Speaker 1 (02:11):
Oh yeah done, Lauren, I'm going to propose to you again, surprise. Also,
can you give me some money to redesign your ring,
which I'm going.

Speaker 2 (02:18):
To you knowing her, if you do that, she'll call
you a peasant.

Speaker 3 (02:21):
Yes, yeah, And this is the problem that I faced
because in my mind I'm like, no, ready to spin
a couple of grand or a few grand on that.
The ring is there, like you just whipped that back
out again. I'll get back on the if you.

Speaker 1 (02:31):
Does she wear it, No, she doesn't even wear it now.

Speaker 2 (02:34):
She's on a different finger. She wears it on a
different finger, Like it's special because it's got, like you know,
family diamonds in it.

Speaker 3 (02:42):
But that was ring. There was money spent on it.
Why would you do that all over now?

Speaker 2 (02:46):
Because it ended up awful? It was awful and now
it's really nice and I feel like if you were
to do it again, you want something new and fresh.

Speaker 1 (02:52):
And it didn't start again because of the ring.

Speaker 2 (02:56):
No, but it didn't go right.

Speaker 1 (02:58):
Oh, so we have to Ever, do you still own
any clothes from when you first got engaged? Throw them
out because that could be the reason the house that
you guys are in, she g were in that house.
They won't get rid of it.

Speaker 2 (03:08):
She can't live in that house.

Speaker 1 (03:09):
Burn it.

Speaker 2 (03:10):
She can't live in the house that they were in.

Speaker 1 (03:11):
When they broke up, Still drive the same car. Get
rid of that. You can't have anything from the previous relationship.

Speaker 2 (03:16):
If you're gonna, if you want this to be a
forever thing, I feel like you redo it, and you
redo it together, and you can pay together, and it's
made into a new tremendous.

Speaker 1 (03:25):
Waste of money.

Speaker 3 (03:26):
Thank you, Max. And there is so many other and
better things that I could be doing with that money.
I think this is where I want Adelaide thirteen one
oh two three. We're checking the running for one hundred
and fifty dollars Sheene voucher.

Speaker 2 (03:35):
You could buy a ring off Sheen.

Speaker 1 (03:38):
She would love that.

Speaker 3 (03:39):
Are you with Hailey?

Speaker 1 (03:40):
Like?

Speaker 3 (03:40):
Do you is it bad as usual? Do you have
to get a whole new ring or no, that's ridiculous.
Do you use the same ring that you had

Ruthie's Table 4

Ruthie's Table 4

For more than 30 years The River Cafe in London, has been the home-from-home of artists, architects, designers, actors, collectors, writers, activists, and politicians. Michael Caine, Glenn Close, JJ Abrams, Steve McQueen, Victoria and David Beckham, and Lily Allen, are just some of the people who love to call The River Cafe home. On River Cafe Table 4, Rogers sits down with her customers—who have become friends—to talk about food memories. Table 4 explores how food impacts every aspect of our lives. “Foods is politics, food is cultural, food is how you express love, food is about your heritage, it defines who you and who you want to be,” says Rogers. Each week, Rogers invites her guest to reminisce about family suppers and first dates, what they cook, how they eat when performing, the restaurants they choose, and what food they seek when they need comfort. And to punctuate each episode of Table 4, guests such as Ralph Fiennes, Emily Blunt, and Alfonso Cuarón, read their favourite recipe from one of the best-selling River Cafe cookbooks. Table 4 itself, is situated near The River Cafe’s open kitchen, close to the bright pink wood-fired oven and next to the glossy yellow pass, where Ruthie oversees the restaurant. You are invited to take a seat at this intimate table and join the conversation.
