You see another article. "This platform just changed everything." And suddenly, the AI platform you've been using for months feels completely inadequate. You wonder if you're behind. You wonder if you should switch again.

Neo and I have had this conversation more times than we can count, and it's one of the questions we get asked constantly at Inventium AI. Which of the four major AI platforms, Copilot, ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini, should you actually be using?

In this How I AI episode, Neo and I walk through the three questions you should ask yourself before committing to any platform, then go through each one in turn to unpack where it shines and where it falls short. By the end, you will have a clear enough picture to make a call, or at least know which one to try next.

What you'll learn:

  • The three questions to ask before committing to any AI platform
  • Why your data's location could rule out certain options entirely
  • Which platform actually plugs into your daily work apps
  • How pricing models are shifting in ways that could blindside your budget
  • What to weigh before moving your whole company over
  • Practical AI tools for productivity and focus
  • Real-world AI workflows used by high performers
  • How to use AI at work without burning out
  • Smart shortcuts for managing time and mental load

Speaker 1 (00:01):
You see another article.

Speaker 2 (00:03):
This platform just changed everything, and suddenly the AI platform
that you've been using for the last few months feels
completely inadequate. You wonder if you're behind You wonder if
you should switch again. Neo and I have had this
conversation more times than we can count, and it's one

(00:24):
of the questions that we get asked a lot at
inventium AI. Which of the four major AI platforms being Copilot, Chat, GPT,
Claude and Gemini should you actually be using. In this episode,
we walk through the three questions you should ask yourself
before committing to any platform, specifically where your files and

(00:48):
emails live, which offers apps to use daily, and whether
your data neath to stay in Australia. We then go
platform by a platform, covering what makes each one worth
considering and where each one falls short. By the end
of this episode, you will have a clear enough picture
to actually make a call, or at least no which

(01:09):
one to try.

Speaker 3 (01:10):
Next.

Speaker 2 (01:16):
Welcome to how IAI with me, Doctor Amantha Imba and
Neo Applin, head of inventium AI. Each episode we share
one practical way to use AI better at work and
in life. No fluff, no tech jargon, just things you
can use straight away. One of the questions that we

(01:37):
get asked a lot, and I feel like we're getting
asked it more often now at Inventium AI is which
of the four major AI platforms should I choose for
my business or for me as an individual?

Speaker 1 (01:50):
And of course there are four main players.

Speaker 2 (01:52):
So we've got Microsoft's co Pilot, we have got chat
Shipt by OpenAI, we've got chlawed Bianthropic, and we've got
Gemini by Google. So neo, where should we start in
unpacking this decision?

Speaker 3 (02:08):
And the fomo is real because you'll see these articles
and they'll be like, oh, there's this new feature in
the other tool that you don't have, and so you
want to then jump over or should I jump arovid?
I'm not quite sure. So the first thing I'm going
to say is these are all excellent tools. There will
be fomo. There will always be a new update from
the other provider that you'll maybe want to jump into.

(02:29):
At an individual level, Absolutely do that, and I encourage
you to jump around, pay make sure you're securing your data,
all those kind of normal good things. But you'll be
able to then see what is out there. Because when
we look at these different tools. One's not so much
better than the other. They're all very smart, they just
have slightly different features, and so they may have different

(02:50):
features that work better for you as a person, or
you as a person who's making this decision on behalf
of your company. So a couple of questions you may
want to ask. So one of them is where are
your emails and files? Because these systems are so much
more effective if they can plug into your emails and
your files to be able to work with you and
work where you are working. So the Microsoft tools work,

(03:12):
of course, really well within the Microsoft M three six
five platform. So as you imagine, Copilot works really well
with Microsoft three six five users, and Gemini works really
well if you're in the G suite. So if you're
already in the G suite, consider looking at Gemini. If
you're in the Microsoft suite, look at potentially looking at Copilot.

Speaker 2 (03:33):
I've always wondered with claud and chat GPT, do they
work equally well in terms of if I'm in the
Google ecosystem or I'm in the Microsoft ecosystem, or do
they favor one of those two ecosystems.

Speaker 3 (03:48):
They're Switzerland at the moment, yeah, they're able to plug
in reasonably equally to both. The connectors they called connectors,
and you can use connectors. Each of the systems have
a look different way to get to those connectors. You
can even ask your system how to set up a
connector to g Suite or Microsoft. The connectors are slightly
different for both. But yeah, they're almost Switzerland. So you

(04:09):
could pick between Microsoft or the Google Suite if you
wanted to for both those systems.

Speaker 2 (04:16):
Okay, so what other questions, aside from where desired emails
and callender live should we be asking to make a
good decision.

Speaker 3 (04:27):
One of them is about your office apps. And I
think most of the people listening to us, and you're
out there listening to us, a lot of people are
office workers, and we are building things, we're making things,
and often we're in a particular suite. So we add Dementium.
We're very much in the Microsoft suites. We're using PowerPoint,
we're using Excel, all those kind of things. So Copilot
and Claude work really well with those apps. They've even

(04:48):
got like in app thing, and it can even puppet
master your Excel spreadsheet, say, which is quite wonderful. Of course,
if you're in Google Suite, in the G Suite, then
Gemini will do things like that for you. So maybe
if you're in the G Suite, want to lean more
towards Jim and I for those kind of things. But yeah,
certainly PowerPoint XL. I do love the Claude and Copilot

(05:08):
plugins that you've got that sit alongside you in the app.

Speaker 2 (05:11):
There so office apps and what about chatchapt Does that
play in either of those office.

Speaker 3 (05:17):
Pops in it? But both it and Claude, even if
you don't connect them, you can still upload one of
your documents. You can upload a spreadsheet and it will
then do build you a new one effectively. But it
doesn't so much puppet master. It can't see what you're seeing.
It can't just move things around for you. It's more like, oh,
give you a file CHETBT and then you'll do some

(05:39):
stuff and you will give me another file back, which
may or may not be similar to the first.

Speaker 2 (05:43):
Roun Are there any other overarching questions that we need
to be asking when making a decision about which of
these floor flour platforms should we go with before we
get into the differences between them.

Speaker 3 (06:00):
There is an important one for the decision makers listening.
If you are a company and maybe healthcare or finance
or potentially you've got some contracts where it says your
data can only be in Australia, then your one and
only choice is Copilot using the Microsoft three six five
Copilot suite. The reason for that is the Copilot is
the only one that has all of their servers in Australia. Yes,

(06:23):
they do have an ability to be able to use
Claud inside Copilot. That's the Claud models inside the Copilot
screens if you'd like, If you are going to use
Claud in Copilot, it will send your data to Claud
in America. So if you're worried about that, turn Claud off.
But yeah, if you want just straight copilot all in Australia, brilliant.
But if you can't have your data overseas, stick with Copilt.

(06:43):
All the others will work overseas and so it's not
a problem there. Look for a business like ours, just
an SME, it's probably not a problem. But if you've
got a contractory like healthcare data or finance data, sometimes
you've got requirements on you about that.

Speaker 2 (06:56):
Okay, so maybe now let's get into the difference between
the platforms, obviously knowing that they are all incredibly smart,
but there are some differences between them in terms of
where they're at right now at the end of June,
at the time of our recording.

Speaker 1 (07:13):
So where do you want to start? Neo?

Speaker 3 (07:15):
This is like the AI dating show. It's like Love
is Blind for AI. Okay, so if let's start with Claude,
and I'm going to go with Claude because it's the
cool kid in town at the moment. It's all over
the news and everyone's got fomo about Claude, So it
might be your pick. If you want those cool features
and tools that seem to be out there at the moment,

(07:37):
it might be your pick. If you're in the Microsoft
ecosystem particularly, I love how can then be in your
speadsheets and things like that very much. So I really
do like that. I do like their ethics personally, notwithstanding
of what's happening with the US government at the time
of recording with their stuff there. But generally they don't
want a model that's going to break society like that,

(08:00):
so they will generally try to pause on things. And
I do like the way that they're currently working. I
love what they've got with some of their features with
Claude and Clawed Cowork with which is another episode we've done,
and also claud Code. If you're a developer or you're
a big geek like me, then some of these features
they're building are just powerful and awesome to be able

(08:22):
to get work done more efficiently rather than just to
answer questions. It's helped me do that job, and I
think that Claude currently is winning the race on help
me do that job. Other small things are that it
also talks nicely. It's like a smart buddy vibe, and
I like the way it talks over the others at

(08:43):
the moment. Of course, all these things can change, but
it's certainly got a nicer vibe to it. So that's Claude.
Where do you want me to go next?

Speaker 1 (08:50):
Let's go to chat JPT.

Speaker 3 (08:53):
Right, so CHATTERBT. I take it as a really smart consultant,
and I like going to CHATJPT if I want best practice,
I want a cold hard SmackDown of everyone everything that
I'm thinking about or a document that I've got. CHECHABT
is awesome for that clinical what's right, what's not right
kind of thing, and it's got most of the core

(09:14):
features and tools that the Claude does like. It even
has skills. It's got some agen D type things in there.
It doesn't have a coworky thing yet, although that's definitely
coming watch this space. That is going to change. They've
got Codex and a whole bunch of other things kind
of pulling in together. But yeah, if you want that
smart professor type vibe, then absolutely, chetchapt maybe your pick.

(09:35):
And even though Claude is the dialing of the media today,
I think that Claude and Chechabt are going to be
racing for the top spot for a while.

Speaker 2 (09:43):
Yet, let's look at Gemini, which, interestingly, if I think
about all our clients at inventium AI and also people
that come along to our public programs, Geminis is probably
the least used platform.

Speaker 1 (10:02):
Would you agree with that.

Speaker 3 (10:04):
That's what our stats are showing. I can see where
some people are reluctant to get into Gemini only it
doesn't have the big, showy news articles like some of
the others do. Their models are not quite as smart
as the other provider's models out there. Generally, if you're
a company within the Gemini ecosystem, then it's easy to

(10:24):
bolt in the Gemini tools. But Gemini as an ecosystem
is really quite awesome. So, yes, you've got the Gemini
application and you can have a chat to it and whatnot.
But with Gsuite it becomes quite powerful in with your
emails and your files and things like that. But also
they've got other applications in there as well. So they've
got SA Notebook LM, which is an exceptionally useful tool

(10:46):
for learning about things that within the Gemini ecosystem. You
can do that on your own documents. You can do
that securely. So I see it as like the creative
body that can then do some things quite cleverly on
your ecosystem. And if you're in the Gemini ecosystem, then
you're in the Google ecosystem. I should say. Then Gemini

(11:07):
is a really solid pick.

Speaker 2 (11:09):
I still use Nanobanana in Gemini for image generation. Is
that what you would recommend? Neo Is that still ahead
of the game with image generation?

Speaker 3 (11:21):
Oh, image generation? Any time you're listening to this it
will change. The image generation field is changing too fast.
But at the moment people are arguing that chat GPT's
image generation slightly better than the Gemini one which is
called Nano Banana, which is the coolest product name ever.
So yes, I do love both of them. If you

(11:41):
want to talk about image generation, we can geek out
for hours with different tools in there. Well, one thing
I will say about Gemini is I really at the moment,
I'm recommending it for enterprises. The reason for that is
if you're just on a user plan like your thirty bucks,
a monthy kind of thing, in order to stop it
from training from your data, you've got to turn its

(12:02):
active memory off, which turns it to be not as useful.
So I care deeply about data security, and so if
you're in a SME, then I would definitely look at
the security of it what you're comfortable with if you're
in the Gemini ecosystem.

Speaker 2 (12:18):
Okay, let's finish with Microsoft Copilot. And because a lot
of our clients at INVENTIUMAI are quite large organizations or government,
we have a lot of people that we train that
are using Microsoft co pilots. So what are the pros
and cons of Copilot?

Speaker 3 (12:40):
First, I'm going to say Copilot's not your granddad's copilot.
The copilot from two years ago is not like the
co Pilot today. So if you played with it then
and weren't impressed and you have a go now, it'll
be very different experience. It is a lot smarter, it
is a lot more useful on those kind of perspectives.
It is definitely our pick for if you want an
easy setup of with It is really secure, quite compliant,

(13:03):
all those kind of things. It's not that you can't
do that in the Google ecosystem, but Microsoft's, i think,
is from an administrative kind of view, a lot easier
to set up and manage the security there. So it's
a great unified platform because you've got your DAT, you
got your your teams, you've also got your share Point
and you can access you know, say who can access

(13:24):
all those kind of things. And also co pilot is
becoming so much more useful because it's they are one interface,
has Microsoft's engines coming soon it will have Chechibit's engines,
and it will have already does have clawed engines as well.
So you can pick to run claud inside Copilot, which

(13:46):
is excellent. Now some people would say that it's not
quite like Claude because you've got a lot more governance,
guard railsy type stuff on there, I'd say probably yes,
But from when I'm from my perspective, if it's in
there working with my documents, talking turkey with me, building
the stuff I need to do with the emails and meetings,
that usefulness is so important for me. Over, maybe it's

(14:06):
a little bit more likely to go off the rails
on a guard Raley kind of side with you using
straight off Claude. So I like Microsoft for you know,
it's plug and play. Everything's already in their security Management's
a lot easier. You're already in the Microsoft ecosystem. But
it's a little bit of a smarty, kind of goody
two shoes kind of vibe sometimes and occasionally it'll say,

(14:28):
look up, I've got issues going on here. I'll come
back in a moment. So reliability, I wish they just
pick that up just a smidge, But I've got to
say out of the box set and forget. Well I'm
not set forget, but it's a lot easier to set
up than some of the others. And I can see
why enterprises go for co pilot noo.

Speaker 2 (14:45):
Any final parting words of advice for people that have
listened and they're still thinking, oh, I still don't.

Speaker 3 (14:55):
Know, give it a go personally for a while. You
might find that you like one better than another before
you move your company over. If you're the decision maker,
have a different one than you're using a few company
at home, so you can just see what the others
are doing if you want to do that. Also, have
a look at pricing because the days of thirty bucks

(15:17):
a month per user is generally moving away, particularly looking
at company decisions, so Claude, for example, is moving towards
a token usage basis. Yes, you might pay the thirty
bucks a month, but for every prompt everyone sends through
the kitchen continue, it all adds up. So you might
want to look at the token economics the tokenomics of
each of these tools to see which one fits with

(15:39):
your budget and the way that you and your people
work amazing.

Speaker 2 (15:42):
Hopefully, if you're listening, you are feeling a little bit
clearer on which of the four major platforms you might
want to pick or you might want to move to.
