Speaker 1 (00:00):
New Jersey and Amanda jam Nation.

Speaker 2 (00:03):
Well, our next guest is known for a string of
classic pop hits that take us straight back.

Speaker 1 (00:08):
Can I say slew?

Speaker 2 (00:10):
And we still can't get enough of Belinda Carlisle Well,
the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee, is bringing
her hit songs to her Australian fans with a brand
new Decades tour. We are thrilled to have her with
us on Zoom.

Speaker 3 (00:23):
Belinda, Hello, she is, I'm fine. How are you?

Speaker 2 (00:26):
We are great? How long is it since you were here?

Speaker 3 (00:30):
Well? I think it's twenty eighteen, so it's been a
while this tours. It's the fourth time it's been scheduled
twice because of COVID. It was canceled once because last
year it was cancer. Because of my knee. I messed
up my knee and it needed a knee replacement. And
now I'm coming there's September with my new knae.

Speaker 2 (00:51):
Well, good luck going through the airport with that. I've
had a couple of hip replacements and you get pat
downs all over the place.

Speaker 3 (00:56):
Yeah, I know, I know.

Speaker 1 (00:59):
And did you the full knee reconstruction, because that's a
that's a brutal operation.

Speaker 3 (01:04):
It was really I don't know what I was thinking.
I was making plans for the next week to go out.
It's nothing, and then and then I got a rude
awaken and it was hardcore hardcore.

Speaker 1 (01:15):
They pretty much chop They pretty much chop your leg off.
It's no, they do, and they reattach it the.

Speaker 3 (01:20):
Do it's extreme. Do they do?

Speaker 2 (01:22):
You would normally have to prepare, I'm sure for a
tour anyway, but with your new new knee, have you
had to sort of rehab your stage moves and things.

Speaker 3 (01:31):
Yes. Actually I'm doing karaoke dancing now and with my
with my physiotherapist, and and it's not easy. It's harder
than being on stage. But yes, trying to figure out
what works and what doesn't work. I mean I'm about
ninety five percent so, but there's certain things I can't
do yet I will.

Speaker 1 (01:49):
Are you Are you much of a dancer on staff?
I'm thinking of when I see you on film clips
and stuff. I've seen you dance, But are you Would
you say that that you'll you really work on the
dance when you're on stage? No?

Speaker 3 (02:02):
No, no, I mean it's it's never nothing is like
a choreograph. It just move a lot and dance a lot.
But and that's just part of it. But but it's
not like choreograph.

Speaker 1 (02:15):
Not like Janet Jackson.

Speaker 3 (02:16):
Yeah no, no, no, not at all. But but I
still have to be in shape for that and and
just you know my limits.

Speaker 1 (02:24):
Yeah, well, because it's like when you see Billy Joel.
You know, when Billy Joel gets up there and he's performing,
and then that film clip for Uptown Girl, you're Christie Brinkley.
Billy's dancing better than Christie in the in the film
for Uptown Girl.

Speaker 2 (02:37):
Yeah, it's not every it's not everyone's special. That's what
I mean.

Speaker 1 (02:40):
You could be a really great singer. And that's why
sometimes I think that's why singers bring stools out on
the stage. They're not going to do any stools.

Speaker 3 (02:48):
Yeah, exactly, exactly.

Speaker 2 (02:50):
So this is your Decades tour. What an incredible career
you've had. Are the sliding doors from the go gos?
What helped you pivot from that to this long career?

Speaker 3 (03:02):
I didn't really, to be honest, I was not planned
at all. I just kind of winged it and I thought, well,
the only thing I know how to do is sing,
So I had the opportunity to make a solo album,
and I knew it was like fifty to fifty maybe
you know that, and so I just nothing was ever

(03:22):
contrived and nothing ever has been contrived actually through the years.
So yeah, I just kind of winged it and it happened. Well, yeah, it.

Speaker 1 (03:32):
Worked out because the guy guys, you would have thought, well,
you know, that was a that was a huge super
group and a pioneering group of the time. It would
have been scary to break out there and just do
your own soulized stuff.

Speaker 3 (03:45):
Yeah. I mean I wasn't really scared until I got
in stage for the first time. I thought it would
have I done, but it was too late.

Speaker 1 (03:51):
I bet I better get dancing.

Speaker 3 (03:53):
Yeah, yeah, me and get it.

Speaker 1 (03:57):
Well, Belinda, it's great. It's great to talk. You can

is your birthday?

Speaker 3 (04:12):

and I'm blessed, you know when I think about my
friends and aren't here. So yeah, absolutely, it's amazing.
