Hello Emma, Hello.
Speaker 4 (00:26):
We've got a big, messy court case to talk about today, Rebel.
Speaker 2 (00:29):
I say which one? I was about to say, take
a number? Which which messy court case is it?
Speaker 3 (00:34):
I know it's a messy time, isn't it.
Speaker 1 (00:36):
Well?
Speaker 4 (00:36):
This messy court case relates to Rebel Wilson. She's being
sued for defamation. And wow, there are so many headaches
in unraveling this one.
Speaker 3 (00:44):
It's a very she said, she said, but I'm going
to try and make sense of it for you.
Speaker 4 (00:48):
Rebel Wilson obviously famous Ossie actor, Hollywood star. She's featured
in films like Pitch Perfect and Bridesmaids. She is being
sued by an actor and singer songwriter, Charlotte mckinners. She's
a dodging Aussie talent who stars in Wilson's directorial debut,
The deb a musical comedy. It's out now. It's set
in rural New South Wales. It was only recently released
(01:10):
due to various legal battles. This one included. But this
one centers around an incident that happened during filming for
the deb So. The allegations are that the co producer
of the movie, a lady named Amanda Ghost assisted by McKinnes,
suffered a medical episode at Bondi Beach.
Speaker 3 (01:28):
So they were filming at Bondai.
Speaker 4 (01:29):
It was freezing cold, so they went back to a
penthouse in Bondai where some of the cast and crew
were staying.
Speaker 3 (01:35):
The pair got in a bath together.
Speaker 4 (01:36):
They were wearing their swimmers the whole time, but they've
been staying there during filming and they got in the
bath to warm Amanda Ghost up.
Speaker 3 (01:43):
Now Rebel wils Rebel Wilson.
Speaker 4 (01:45):
Claims that the actor mckinner's confided in her that she
was sexually harassed by the producer, that she.
Speaker 3 (01:52):
Didn't feel comfortable during the incident.
Speaker 4 (01:55):
Now, the actor says that that never happened and that
Wilson made that claes up. Wilson says that the actor
retracted her claim to further her career. So this lawsuit
centers around a series of social media posts that Rebel
Wilson made speaking about the incident. This was on her
stories for twenty four hours for her eleven million followers,
(02:17):
which basically suggested that this producer, Amanda Ghost, was behaving
in a predatory way and that this actor had retracted
her complaint in exchange for better acting and music opportunities.
Speaker 3 (02:29):
It's so bizarre, so messy.
Speaker 4 (02:32):
In the court this week, we've heard accusations against Rebel
Wilson that she hired a PR crisis agency based in
the US that it published malicious smear websites that attacked
the producer alleging that she was a sex trafficker the actor.
Rebel Wilson denies any involvement in these websites. She says
there's no evidence to support the allegation. The court was
(02:53):
also told that Rebel took out defamation insurance.
Speaker 3 (02:57):
Which I don't know if that's a.
Speaker 4 (02:58):
Legally binding thing before she posted about all of this
online with her directorial debut. There's this other case about
writing credits, that Wilson expected a writing credit on the
movie that she didn't get and that this is a
kind of vendetta that she has against the crew for not.
Speaker 3 (03:15):
Giving her that writing credit.
Speaker 4 (03:17):
There are two other legal battles going on related to
this film, one with the production company who alleges that
Wilson falsely accused it of trying to block the release
of the movie the deb and another from producers and
the production company suing Wilson in California over allegedly defamatory
claims she made publicly about them. There so two defamation
(03:39):
cases in different jurisdictions in different countries. It's all sounding
like very expensive legal bills for both sides.
Speaker 1 (03:45):
And what a shame for an emerging Australian film, emerging
Australian talents, her first victorial debut young actors involved. What
a shame that the productions come to this.
Speaker 3 (03:57):
It's really overshadowed the movie, which has gotten great review used.
But it's so bizarre.
Speaker 4 (04:01):
We've got this battle playing out in the courts right now,
and at the same time you can pop down the
road and go and see this movie at the center
of it in real times right a very strange time
in the world of entertainment and the justice system.
Speaker 2 (04:15):
Wow, Rebel would really know what the inside of a
court room is. She seems to like going back for that.
Speaker 3 (04:21):
That is true. And she's got a law degree herself.
Speaker 2 (04:23):
So now there you go.
Speaker 3 (04:24):
Her staff.
Speaker 2 (04:25):
Yes, because you know what they say, someone who represents
themselves has a fool for a client.
Speaker 3 (04:31):
That's a good one.
Speaker 2 (04:32):
It's my head, m It is great talking to you.
Speaker 3 (04:35):
