Speaker 1 (00:00):
The pub test.

Speaker 2 (00:00):
Pub test.

Speaker 3 (00:01):
It's past the pub test.

Speaker 2 (00:02):
If something sounds unlikely, then it should fail. The pub test.

Speaker 4 (00:06):
Yeah, the pub test.

Speaker 5 (00:06):
It doesn't pass the sniff test.

Speaker 3 (00:08):
Stop it. It's not helpful.

Speaker 4 (00:09):
Today, encores.

Speaker 2 (00:11):
We're putting encores to the pub test. I read a
New York Times opinion piece that said, encores are corny,
cringe and pointless. It's time we put them to the back,
send them out to pasture. We are sick of them.

Speaker 4 (00:23):
They're embarrassing.

Speaker 2 (00:24):
I'm not very embarrassing. Well, it's embarrassing for the band.

Speaker 3 (00:28):
We.

Speaker 2 (00:29):
We sit there like performing seals going, come on, we
adore you. And they go, okay, here we come. We'll
play the one big song we haven't got around to.

Speaker 4 (00:37):
It's all fake. Yeah. You look at it. And I look,
now bands put the whole song list on the website.

Speaker 2 (00:46):
Yeah, so you know what to stick around for.

Speaker 4 (00:47):
And you even know what's going to be in the encore.

Speaker 2 (00:49):
So someone said here it's just adult peekaboo. Everyone knows
when the venue has to shut down so they'll just
keep playing until then. It's 11 o'clock.

Speaker 4 (00:56):
It's the end of it. How do you feel?

Speaker 2 (00:58):
Are they cringy?

Speaker 4 (00:59):
Are they dramatic? Do you love them?

Speaker 2 (01:00):
Encores, they pass the pub test.

Speaker 3 (01:02):
Oh, mate, most certainly do. That's the best part of
the night, I reckon, the encores. People get up, you
get up and dance and sing along and it's just wild,
you know. Don't worry about the traffic. You'll get home eventually.
Might be three or four hours before you get out,
but that's all right. You've got your money's worth.

Speaker 1 (01:20):
No, not really.

Speaker 5 (01:21):
If you know they haven't played their best songs, you
know that they're going to come up. But I went
with my wife to see Go West on Friday. And
they just said, we're not going to do this encore thing.
These are the last songs and that's it. And they
played all their best songs. They didn't go off stage
and come back again. We didn't have to stand there
clapping and clapping like crazy. So I think they're a
thing of the past.

Speaker 3 (01:41):
Yeah, they do. I think it's pretty fun. Good to
have a little... exciting bit of the show at the
end and maybe listen to a song that everyone didn't
get to hear but uh everyone.

Speaker 1 (01:51):
Likes yeah no because you know you have to stay
for the encore because you know that for the best
songs they're going to come 90 percent of the time
as simple as that but interesting fact to say elvis
has left the building that came across because he never
did encore and they had to come out on the
stage and tell the audience go home elvis has left.

Speaker 2 (02:08):
The building Wawani have left the building, everyone.

Speaker 4 (02:12):
The knee has gone. The knee has gone. You don't
have to go home, but you can't stay here.

Speaker 3 (02:17):
Mm-hmm.
