Barra popped in for a chat with Smiley and there was plenty to chat about. First up, the Eagles resuilts were less than desirable and some controversy surrounds North Melbourne. The Green Army is not to be messed with and the NBL grand final. Lots to unpack.

Speaker 1 (00:00):
When you hit off with your mates, can you just
crack gags? I added a lot of color here time
he went to boss level for Barre's bits. Have some
of this bang goals?

Speaker 2 (00:16):
Oh, bar good morning. Let's start with the Eagles, mate, hiding.

Speaker 1 (00:21):
Did you play that song for the Eagles free falling?
A tricky, smiling good one, very good mate. Yeah, game
was gone by quarter time. I know. I heard you
were walking past outside and there was no noise. You thought,
what's happening in there's fifty people. It was a little
bit of booing. It was a real reality check. Yeah,
we know what it was as well. The Eagles were

(00:41):
off for six day break and had the ten youngest
players on the ground, and the Swans are off for
sixteen day breaks, so they never gave up. They were
relentless and said, you know what, I feel fresh, it
is worn on. I feel good. I'm just going to
kick goals. So it wasn't a game as it was
more like fresh legs versus jelly leg that's it. And

(01:02):
I thought, I thought the Eagle's going to turn Optus
into a fortress again. But it's more like an airbnb
for the swanings. Isn't it really want it.

Speaker 2 (01:10):
There were still moments when you could see what this
team is trying to build.

Speaker 1 (01:14):
Oh yeah, yeah, we've got to be we've got to
be positive. It's it's still a long road.

Speaker 2 (01:19):
Because he looked very happy.

Speaker 1 (01:21):
Yeah, well he's probably going, how good's this? I come home.
I flogged my old team and by one hundred and
twenty eight points. It was their biggest win on the
road for the Swanees and the Eagles biggest loss at OPTAs.
It's they're really their bogey team. Have listened to these
smiley six straight wins over the Eagles at the average
of ninety plus points. Six straight at ninety plus I

(01:42):
to reread that twice. I thought, got my math's wrong.
It can't be right. It's a typo. But apparently there's
six wins over ninety points. So now Minnie mcwilder's got
to put Humpty dumpty back together again to gather around
in Adelaide. Against Gelong, he lost by a point and
will be pretty unhappy. So yeah, it doesn't get any easier,
but that's that's a f footy. And then they've had
their two wins, so that's pretty good. I think the

(02:03):
expectations got raised. I mean the Eagles fans do jump
on straight away, don't they. A couple of wins and
we're going to make the finals.

Speaker 2 (02:10):
Harley. That was a tough day at the office for Harley. Yeah,
he was tagged all night.

Speaker 1 (02:14):
I'd like to see a bit more protection there, and
he did stand up for his teammates.

Speaker 2 (02:18):
So that's passion.

Speaker 1 (02:19):
As you heard in the news, there'll be a lot
of ongoing debate about that. You heard that in the
news now the Dockers Daniel Laidley in the West Australia,
she said, Alex Pearce, can you give a ten for
a smother?

Speaker 2 (02:32):
That was brilliant, Absolutely, that mother was brilliant.

Speaker 1 (02:36):
Greater was the replay. The camera was in just the
right spot too, Like he dived and you know who
he looks like, don't you? Oh yeah.

Speaker 2 (02:43):
At Easter it was all over social media.

Speaker 1 (02:46):
J C Mate and the exter miracle and all that
sort of save the day, your courage that centered Freemantle folklore.
Now that died. That was incredible. What leadership you know
it was any minutes to go about executing in the
deciding moment. So there was as wrong Andy Brace or
Murphy reads just unbelievable. Luke Jackson, Shaybo all sensational. And

(03:07):
they had to beat the crowd and the crows because
the crowd was going mad. Can you imagine how loud
it was. And so to beat the crowd and the crows,
that's a great sign and that'll give them such self belief.
I reckon, what's that expression? Like steel forged in fire?
Committee would go with that tempered like steel barrow stronger
than the stronger because of the heat they endured. That's

(03:29):
exactly what it would have been, you know what I mean.

Speaker 2 (03:31):
So Doggers and Pies and this Friday, yeah.

Speaker 1 (03:34):
I think they'll win. I think they'll beat Collingwood on
Friday night, even if Deacos plays Nick Dakos and Pendlebury.
They had to fly home on Sunday though, and then
they fly back on Wednesday. So we'll see if Hayden
Young's available. I think he might play in the derby.
He just before we go to the break, I'll tell
you one thing I think happened the other night. I
couldn't sleep, afflicked on the telly and it was about
two am. WA's Tim David Belt at eight six's in

(03:58):
a blistering seventy night out twenty five balls, seventy off,
twenty five on the IPO played for Royal Challenges. One
of them went out out of the stadium. He had
it actually out of the stadium. I know they're not
huge stadiums, but it was on the streets of wherever
they were playing.

Speaker 2 (04:12):
Seventy or twenty five that is bad. Up to eleven.

Speaker 1 (04:16):
He was launching balls into orbit. I was just looking
for the remote, you know what I mean. Unbelie, you
know what he gets paid too. He gets paid half
a million bucks for two months work. Is that right? Half?
And he deserves it, mate. I should have stuck the cricket.
I'll get my son back into it.

Speaker 2 (04:32):
That's a west the well stage goats here.

Speaker 1 (04:34):
I know you saw this great man North Melbourne coach
Alistair Clarkson punching one of his plays, Cody mccirche, and
it was a punch to the chest and the kids
said it was just his way of showing his cares,
which is a weird performance review.

Speaker 2 (04:50):
We've all split, you know, switched off for a split second,
but this one caught the coach's eyeballer.

Speaker 1 (04:55):
Ah would he like Greg's just the boss has just
turned up there, like he's just come straight up in
here and goes, mate, you played the wrong song bang
in the ribs? Would you handle?

Speaker 2 (05:05):
That's it?

Speaker 1 (05:07):
Handle that you'd have to make. You'd be straight off
to h would you. So it's like in the old
days when your dad used to say, this is going
to hurt me more than it hurts you when he
spanks you.

Speaker 2 (05:16):
You know that's Did you ever cop that all the time?

Speaker 1 (05:19):
It's for your own good? Nah? I mean, I don't
like it. I don't know what The reason I don't
like it is because the player is in a powerless
situation and if normally, if a fifty nine year old
short guy hunched a twenty year old super athlete in
the ribs, it wasn't going to end well for the
little guy, was it. But in this situation he had

(05:41):
to just suck it up. But he said, you know,
can a coach give you a jab and you go, nah,
all good? It means it means he likes me. Well,
that's that's what they said. So I don't know. I
don't like to see it because it sets a bad
precedent for junior sport and down the line, all that
sort of stuff. It's old school in old school good points, fever, sensational,
twenty goals. Yeah, they flogged the new South Wales Swifts

(06:05):
in Sydney too. And Ramelda Aiken George she's amazing. She's
she came out of retirement to replace the Janial Fowler
new Pard who was their absolute superstar. She was the
best shoot in the world. And they rang that Ramelda
and said can you come and help us out this year?
And she says, oh okay, she comes in and she
shoots in a two hundred and forty ninth game. I

(06:27):
think she's like in her late thirties. She shot sixty
seven goals.

Speaker 2 (06:33):
Where did the fever get rolling? They are hard to stop?

Speaker 1 (06:36):
Mentioned turning up and gun baying his sixty seven And
then did you watch the NBL final?

Speaker 2 (06:41):
Yes, mate, I saw the highlights and I want to finish.

Speaker 1 (06:44):
Unbelievable Sydney Kings. It started out looking like it's going
to be a terrible series, that thirty six is going
to get flogged, but then Bryce gott and got going.
And then in Game five, in front of I think
it was eight and a half thousand record crowd, the
Kings won in overtime. You know, Bryce had a chance
to win it in regulation and he missed, and then
they went into overtime and the Kings did the job.

Speaker 2 (07:07):
So that was Championship basketball at its best.

Speaker 1 (07:10):
Oh yeah, Kendrick Davis versus Bryce Cotton. And they ended
up hugging it out at the end too, But I'm
not sure that they absolutely love each other. But yeah,
So the Sydney Kings are the winners and the thirty
six has had a great season, and we still try
to work out how we lost Bryce Cotton, you know
what I mean, Like, what is he doing in an Adelaide?
How do we get the Cats fans are just scratching

(07:32):
their head
