Barra joined Russell to unpack yet another massive weekend in sport  and there was plenty to get through. First up, all the big talking points from the 2nd Ashes Test. Then over to the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, where Lando Norris crossed the line in first place. And to wrap it up, the Perth Wildcats’ tribute to Bryce Cotton… which certainly raised a few eyebrows.

Speaker 1 (00:01):
Time for Barry's bits. Good morning, sir rats, how are
you mate?

Speaker 2 (00:08):
You and I today are dissect one.

Speaker 3 (00:11):
Heck of a weekend in sport.

Speaker 4 (00:13):
A lot of sport. Obviously, the Second Test ended, and
of course the f ones were on. There was golf
and the wildcats were so weird. We'll get to that
in a moment. But the Second Test, Mitch Stark, it's
eight wickeds, it's seventy seven runs.

Speaker 1 (00:27):
Man in the match again, he just.

Speaker 4 (00:29):
Lifted because you know, the two other bokes are out,
his two mates are out, and he could just see
he's carrying Australia.

Speaker 1 (00:34):
And then Smith gets the glory at the end.

Speaker 4 (00:37):
And he also champed, didn't he He champed the Pomp's
most ferocious biolo, je Off Rahtcher then hiting for six.

Speaker 3 (00:44):
What a way to end, What a way to end.

Speaker 1 (00:46):
It took an incredible catch too, which was absolutely cruise.

Speaker 2 (00:49):
That was a real turning point, was it? Because they
were like they were they're actually been quite annoying.

Speaker 4 (00:54):
That catches win matches. As we say, it's Australia won
by eight wickets. But Smith's saying to art your bowl
fast when there's nothing going on.

Speaker 3 (01:02):
Champion where were you earlier?

Speaker 1 (01:04):
Champion? That's elite level shade. Don't worry about that.

Speaker 4 (01:08):
It's not as much a sledge as a performance review,
isn't it pretty much he'll still be thinking about that
and known as Smudge obviously Smithy.

Speaker 1 (01:17):
But he champed him. There's three levels of Australian disrespect.

Speaker 4 (01:21):
Good one mate, yeah, good one mate, Yeah, good on
your mate, yeah good one power he won power, Yeah,
good on your power and good one champ or champion.

Speaker 3 (01:30):
He went to level three.

Speaker 4 (01:32):
He went to boss level and then knocked him over
the fence and went and won the have some of
this bang four six I.

Speaker 2 (01:40):
Was stunning, but at least we got nearly four days,
nearly the full four days this time, so you know.

Speaker 4 (01:46):
It's and now the Third Test starts in Adelaide on Wednesday,
so Wednesday week, so December seventeen, so they're like it.
So the weird thing is they're likely to bring back
their captain. So Pat Cummins one of the best bowls
in the world, so just going to get worse the
too and froms and also Nathan Lyon Australia's best ever
off spinner.

Speaker 1 (02:05):
So who goes out which to reach.

Speaker 3 (02:07):
The hand out against him. If he slaps no, you
won't slap it away. You'll take it.

Speaker 4 (02:12):
Because he'll playing the last three tests s CG and
mcg as well. But so dogg, it goes out and
probably Nissa who got a five. Yeah, I know you've
got a Michelle Pfeiffer.

Speaker 2 (02:23):
How how good is it to have, you know, to
be dropping someone who just took five wickets.

Speaker 1 (02:28):
Maybe to be in that position, poor bugger.

Speaker 4 (02:30):
So he'll he'll go out and those two will come
in and we might win fivel We might actually whitewash
him unless he's rain or something.

Speaker 3 (02:36):
You don't call it. Yeah, I reckon, go careful, very
let's just win the series.

Speaker 4 (02:41):
And then their coach McCullum came out and said that
they'd overtrained or something. I think he must have been
misquoted or he meant something else. We're in the nets
for five days, mate. But the other big story overnight,
of course, is the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, and yes
it has happened. And if you don't know, Lando Norris

(03:02):
has won the drivers Championship. Max Forstappan actually won the race.
Oscar Piastre was second, but Lando he only needed a
third and he just drive that way to get to third, basically.

Speaker 3 (03:13):
All and he didn't want to take any risks.

Speaker 4 (03:15):
And you know what, I've changed my opinion a bit
of Lando. So since that race, he's really sort of
opened up about who he is. And there's a big
four minute slab where he's interviewed on his own apologizes
to everyone where he said stupid things and he said
it wasn't really me, it's just the heat of the moment,
and I'm really sorry, apologized to Max and Lewis Hamilton

(03:36):
and stuff. I actually think he might be a good guy,
and it's more.

Speaker 1 (03:40):
It's his team. Yeah, but it's.

Speaker 3 (03:44):
Had a problem with Yeah.

Speaker 4 (03:45):
I know a lot of people thought he was a
bit of a halfback flanker as well. But I think
he actually is a good guy and despite beating our man,
of course, but this audio here sums it up. So
when he got this is him crossing the line that
commentator and then he gets on the radio and he
basically says tells his mom and daddy loves him.

Speaker 5 (04:03):
And after twenty four rounds Lando Norris, he's the Formula
one Wold champion. Norris wins the title in twenty twenty five.

Speaker 1 (04:15):
That's it.

Speaker 2 (04:16):
You are world champion, champion, one.

Speaker 1 (04:20):
Of my I'm so proud, Landa. This is Zam from McLaren.

Speaker 3 (04:24):
It's just the world champion.

Speaker 5 (04:26):
Hotlke. Yeah you.

Speaker 3 (04:37):
Okayful, gonna crash the car now.

Speaker 5 (04:39):
Thank you guys, Oh my god, he made a history
from true. Thanks so much. I love you guys, Thanks
for everything. You deserve it.

Speaker 4 (04:51):
I love your mom, I love you has thanks everything.

Speaker 5 (04:57):
I'm not crying.

Speaker 1 (04:58):
I'm not crying.

Speaker 3 (05:00):
That's relief right there.

Speaker 1 (05:02):
That's incredible.

Speaker 4 (05:03):
But here that was actually straight up through across the line,
that wasn't made up, wouldn't put together. That's actually how
it happened, went to air around the world like it was.

Speaker 1 (05:12):
No. I think he has won me over there, and
you have a look at the other end.

Speaker 2 (05:15):
Of the instry conducted himself well magnificent after the race
as well.

Speaker 3 (05:21):
Yeah no, but he's got he's got still, he's going
to be. He's got the desire. His family were there,
they gave him big focus. He can do it.

Speaker 1 (05:28):
We were as for a while there.

Speaker 4 (05:31):
I wanted to mention the Wildcats because something remark I
know we joked about it last week and we thought
this probably, this probably can't happen.

Speaker 1 (05:38):
But it did happen.

Speaker 4 (05:39):
It happened at rac Arena, full house, thirteen or fourteen
thousand people playing against Bryce Cotton, their former champion, and.

Speaker 1 (05:46):
He's still a champion.

Speaker 4 (05:47):
There the MVP and several times arguably the greatest ever player.
He comes back, and he comes out and they roll
a tribute video.

Speaker 1 (05:56):
They rolled the tribute.

Speaker 3 (05:57):
Video suggest that that was to throw him, not that
it was a.

Speaker 4 (06:00):
Joke, but no, they didn't throw him, and then the
clap crowd got right into it, stood up standing o MVP.

Speaker 1 (06:08):
MVP was the chance was.

Speaker 4 (06:10):
It was actually unbelievable, and he was quite moved by
the whole thing. I've never seen anything like it, I thought.
I actually thought I would have loved it more if they'd.

Speaker 3 (06:20):
Won, because it would have gone to plan that way.

Speaker 1 (06:25):
Bryce put him to He didn't get sentimental.

Speaker 3 (06:27):
Bryce.

Speaker 1 (06:28):
He absolutely put him to.

Speaker 3 (06:29):
The sword in the last quarter, that's how good he is.

Speaker 4 (06:31):
They were twenty one points up and then suddenly he said,
you know what, We're not losing today.

Speaker 1 (06:35):
Boys.

Speaker 4 (06:36):
So it's the only time I've seen a team start
with a tribute video and end with a horror movie.
It was a heartwarming tribute and then Bryce rewrote it
into a revenge thriller. And I think he was looking
at it at the box of the the officials and
the owner and that so.

Speaker 1 (06:54):
The whole I reck.

Speaker 3 (06:54):
This is my description.

Speaker 4 (06:55):
The whole thing was like letting your X make a
speech at your wedding. You know it's not going to
you know exactly anyway he is What is what Bryce.

Speaker 1 (07:05):
Said to say about, you know, the tribute and the
reception he got in Perth.

Speaker 6 (07:11):
It caught me off guard more so, like just hearing
the cheers from the fans.

Speaker 5 (07:15):
Uh.

Speaker 6 (07:15):
The video was cool as well, but even hearing the
MVP chants and all that like it was, it was
really gratifying for me to feel just considering this is
my first time back in the city and over nine
months and at the end of the day, like I've
always said, the city of Perth I got nothing but love,
and the coaches and my teammates or my old teammates,

(07:39):
I got nothing belove for them.

Speaker 3 (07:42):
A lot of love in the room there was, but
we didn't win. So that's that's but that's some of that.
Some of that love dissipated after the.

Speaker 1 (07:48):
Final it's one of those guys when you get.

Speaker 2 (07:51):
Home, you got final buzz and some of that love
just kind of and that's it's exactly what you get home,
you go hang on.

Speaker 4 (07:57):
It wasn't so we gave him a trivia and we lost.
So anyway, world, don't cats fans. Glory is the other
one I wanted to mention before we finished.

Speaker 3 (08:06):
Yes, part of me.

Speaker 1 (08:09):
That's the first time I tried that.

Speaker 4 (08:17):
We'll get that scene too by the technic A bit
brighter please, it's not bright enough anyway, birth Glory won
their third.

Speaker 1 (08:25):
Game in a round.

Speaker 3 (08:25):
They didn't choke.

Speaker 4 (08:26):
Amazing amazing comeback orchestrated by this introm coach Adam Griffiths.
Now's who's obviously probably most probably going to be the
new senior coach.

Speaker 3 (08:37):
I have to win three in a row. He's had
a good audition.

Speaker 1 (08:39):
He's to give him a job.

Speaker 4 (08:40):
Faired income and they beat the Wanderers on the weekend
and he became a bit of juice in the media conference.
He started out by talking about goats and stuff, and
then he compared himself to the King of the Jungle Evelment.

Speaker 7 (08:55):
Probably ask you guys to imagine a sheer cliff two
hundred meters higher, and a mountain goats sitting on it,
and he's eating some moss, some nutrients. But this mountain goat,
he's been there for twenty five years now. I want
you to forget about the mountain goat. A raise it

(09:18):
from your memory, A raise it from your gray matter.

Speaker 3 (09:21):
Delete it. I am a lion.

Speaker 4 (09:28):
All they needed to do was go rah or something
like that. At the end, they would have just brought
their house to Okay anyway, new nickname for Adam Griffiths Kimber, Yeah,
Star or whatever.

Speaker 1 (09:42):
I bet it go.

Speaker 4 (09:42):
I waste enough time scorches veral waste scorches versus stars.
Tomorrow at the Whacker. It's wbbl's eliminator. Go to scorches
for for get along. If you can't catch it.

Speaker 3 (09:54):
It'll be on seven. Do a glory, Yeah, go, don't
do a Wildcats, Do a glory
