Speaker 1 (00:00):
So while we were on break for a couple of weeks,
Lisa discovered that she's quite a di.

Speaker 2 (00:07):
Wire Lady Trady Lady trading air tasker.

Speaker 3 (00:12):
Did a bit of work. Yesterday.

Speaker 2 (00:13):
I was sitting on my couch looking around like it
was a color bond, Dad going nice.

Speaker 3 (00:18):
The wolves came up. A tree didn't look like oh,
mister Hart, Yeah, wasn't quite know.

Speaker 2 (00:23):
The front door, which used to be ugly mission brown wood,
is now a lovely, you know, off white with a
low sheine. I don't like a two glossy, but it
just sets off the walls nicely because it's much the
same color, but it's got that contrast of a sheene.

Speaker 3 (00:38):
Mister sheen, you know what I mean. So we're talking.

Speaker 4 (00:42):
I think that's something different, But.

Speaker 3 (00:45):
We're talking going tails from the DIY. What have you
done that you're really proud of? Around the around the house.

Speaker 1 (00:52):
Nothing as spectacular as yourself. My whole home because it's
an old house.

Speaker 4 (00:57):
Yeah, my whole house.

Speaker 1 (00:58):
Always something is a whole DIY project on a daily basis.
At the moment, I'm just trying to get the garden
to grow because I've discovered, well.

Speaker 3 (01:07):
Is this the right time of you don't worry about
it now to.

Speaker 1 (01:09):
No, no, because I've discovered that there's a stretch of
soil where the soil is too alkaline so things won't grow.
So plant so that the leaves change color and then
it stunts the growth. So I'm in the process of
changing the pH.

Speaker 4 (01:23):
Balance very absolutely.

Speaker 1 (01:26):
And it says to do it around about now, so
that it's got all winter to work and get the
balance right and then it's ready for spring.

Speaker 3 (01:32):
Well, tell us about your DIY trades or chemistry.

Speaker 4 (01:35):
So I don't feel whether it's successful yet. I'll let
you know in September.

Speaker 2 (01:38):
October Brandon from Harrisdale and the text said, if you know,
you know.

Speaker 3 (01:42):
But being able to sit back and watch all the
sprinklers work.

Speaker 2 (01:45):
At the start of summer, Oh, it was like the
old days of trying to put up the Christmas tree
lights and they'd well, you know, you'd be going through
looking for the one bowl that They're not like that
anymore because they're digital, so they work all led.

Speaker 3 (01:59):
But getting them up on the roof that loses mine.

Speaker 4 (02:03):
I start to get nervous around.

Speaker 3 (02:04):
October them on the roof.

Speaker 4 (02:06):
I have to put.

Speaker 3 (02:09):
What's his name Griswold.

Speaker 4 (02:11):
Yes.

Speaker 1 (02:12):
Every year, Christmas, yes, and about October I get nervous
about the fact that, oh god, I'm going to put
these things.

Speaker 3 (02:21):
I used to putting things on the roof. Carolyn in Greenwood,
go morning, good morning. What's your di y tail?

Speaker 5 (02:31):
Which one?

Speaker 4 (02:34):
We've all got a few?

Speaker 3 (02:35):
Tell us about painting the house and came there.

Speaker 5 (02:39):
That's the last one, and they're all related to painting.
I was living in grell Up in a massive home.
It was a five by two with a formal dining
and laundry at the front of the house and the
games room at the back.

Speaker 4 (02:53):
Of the hell did you have help in the house.

Speaker 5 (03:00):
The three kids?

Speaker 1 (03:00):
You?

Speaker 3 (03:03):
Yeah?

Speaker 5 (03:04):
So anyway, I decided that I wanted to sell the
house and build, so I thought, yep, I'm going to paint.
So you know, the back end of the house was okay.
It was fairly neutral, and I just tackled room by room,
and you know, it wasn't too fussed about, you know,
getting the carpet dirty because I was going to replace

(03:25):
the carpet as well.

Speaker 3 (03:27):
So that is the burden.

Speaker 5 (03:28):
It really does, it really does.

Speaker 3 (03:31):
You can separate.

Speaker 5 (03:33):
So I did ceilings as well as the walls, you know,
painted it all up, got to the front of the house.
Now it's an it's a nineteen ninety seven bill, but
it was built in Federation style. So the front, the
front rooms, which is the master bedroom, the formal dining lounge,
and this massive entrance hall we're all painted Federation red.

(03:56):
Have you ever tried to paint over Federation red?

Speaker 2 (03:59):
I imagine it takes a few coats.

Speaker 5 (04:02):
It was, and also being you know, Federation style, there
was these huge ornate archways and everything looks it's very difficulty.

Speaker 2 (04:13):
Oh my god, try putting your painting tape around a
ceiling rose. That's not easy.

Speaker 3 (04:19):
You know.

Speaker 5 (04:19):
I got one of the kids actual school painting brushes
to do that. Yes, yes, but three coats, three coats
to try and cover this red. But I got there
in the end. I got there in the end. I
was very, very proud of the effort that I put in.
And then the carpet guy came in and ripped up
all the old carpet and put down all the new carpet,

(04:40):
and I had a look around, and the new carpet
sitting about an inch or about a centimeter and a
half lower than the old carpet, so I had to
go through every.

Speaker 6 (04:55):
Room in that house.

Speaker 5 (04:56):
I had to go and retouch.

Speaker 1 (04:57):
So the kid's school page brushes would have come in
handy for that.

Speaker 5 (05:02):
They were just a little bit too small.

Speaker 2 (05:06):
You could have sold it as a feature the little
you know, the strip around.

Speaker 5 (05:13):
The real ironic thing is that when I finally got
the photos up and you know the household. This is
just at the beginning of COVID, so the household really
quickly and for a little bit more than I was expecting.
The guy that bought it, I was actually having a
chatoo him and I said, oh, you should have seen
it before with all these red wolves. He said, well,

(05:34):
actually I did see the old photos of it, and
that's what I liked. Taking a back if you knew,
I never thought I could sell it with red wolves.
When I first bought it, I walked in and thought, oh,
I love the house. That red's got to go.

Speaker 7 (05:50):
Yeah, but I lived with it.

Speaker 5 (05:52):
I lived with it for eight years before I decided
to sell, so.

Speaker 6 (05:57):
You could.

Speaker 4 (06:00):
Look it was still worth the effort. You were happy
it was.

Speaker 3 (06:03):
You know what.

Speaker 5 (06:04):
I swore at the time that I'd never do it again.
But now I'm looking at the walls in my new field,
and I'm thinking, yeah, it might be time for a refreshing.

Speaker 3 (06:13):
Baby. Get the pain.

Speaker 4 (06:15):
Yeah, yeah, you've got the punishment. Thanks Carolyn.

Speaker 8 (06:20):
Thanks guy Bye.

Speaker 4 (06:22):
Are you as proud as Carolyn?

Speaker 3 (06:26):
Well, yes I am.

Speaker 2 (06:27):
You are, on the one hand, but I certainly didn't
do as much work as some wasn't tackling ceilings. Got
an amazing photo on the text line from Tracy in Cloverdale.
She transformed an old caravan in the backyard into a
food van pumps all year round. It looks it's got it's.

Speaker 3 (06:48):
Got some you know some what are those lantern light?

Speaker 2 (06:52):
Bud steps first and lights and it says Mama's place.

Speaker 4 (06:56):
It's very clever what you've done.

Speaker 3 (06:57):
It just looks awesome. Tracy. I want one, maybe, Tracey.

Speaker 4 (07:02):
Have you got an old caravan at the back of
the house.

Speaker 3 (07:04):
To start with?

Speaker 4 (07:05):
You can't have one?

Speaker 3 (07:06):
Can I do it with the shed? Maybe kind of
a window.

Speaker 1 (07:09):
Out of the shep We'll wa an wreck an axle
on it and some wheels and you're away.

Speaker 3 (07:14):
Po Jodler, Hello.

Speaker 6 (07:16):
Morning, he's gone.

Speaker 3 (07:19):
Tell us about yours?

Speaker 5 (07:21):
Yeah?

Speaker 6 (07:21):
We well, we went down south as we do every
Easter to do some fishing. Stayed at the mums and
she said to us, can you have a look at
my washing line? I said, oh, yeah, is you know
the pull out ones you?

Speaker 4 (07:33):
Yeah, yeah, I've got one of those.

Speaker 3 (07:34):
Yeah.

Speaker 6 (07:35):
Anyway, I had a look at it and all the
plastic was gone off the lines and it was like wool.
And that's why I had it sunk so much. It
was just like the sun kissed and like it was
just absolutely gone. So I said, all right, I'll just
go to Bunnings and we'll get a new one. Yes,
And I went down there and I managed to get
the same color, the cream one that matches the shed

(07:56):
it's bolted to in the fence, and the same brand.
I thought, beautiful, because you just like you take the
old one off and slop the new one on, pull
it out and that's it easy.

Speaker 3 (08:06):
Yeah nahn.

Speaker 8 (08:09):
The shrink flations hit again, no way, yeah, and the
and the and what they've done is they're before the
person that's put that one up has drilled through the
shed and through the shelves, so the bolts are actually
holding the shelves up to not just holding the line

(08:29):
up on the outside of the shed. So I turned
into a debarkle, but we got it.

Speaker 6 (08:34):
We did it.

Speaker 3 (08:34):
But I thought shrink flation would strike the pull out
washing line still yeah, and.

Speaker 6 (08:43):
I thought, oh, at least I won't have to put
the bracket on the pole that you click the end
of it. Guess what that said? That was a different
size as well.

Speaker 4 (08:56):
Well, good job, but you did do it, didn't you
pull You're.

Speaker 6 (09:00):
Just it's not touching the ground anymore, so it's good.

Speaker 4 (09:06):
To go through it note for another while.

Speaker 1 (09:08):
Well done, Paul, congratulations mate, Yes, yes, mate, yeah.

Speaker 4 (09:16):
Oh no, well done, Paul.

Speaker 3 (09:18):
I'd have just restrung it.

Speaker 4 (09:19):
Yeah, but he helped Mum. He did the job. The
washing's not hanging on the ground anymore.

Speaker 1 (09:26):
Gold ninety six a FM, David Bowie, it's Lisa, it's Russell.
It's twenty eight past seven. D I wires have been
calling in this morning.

Speaker 2 (09:36):
Carolyn in Willerton, Hello Caroline, what is your dey tail?

Speaker 7 (09:44):
Well, much like Russell older house, it's an entire project. Yes,
my husband's a really.

Speaker 5 (09:49):
Good di wire.

Speaker 7 (09:51):
My husband's a really good trading so I don't get
to do much. So when he goes away on his
boys weekend or a long week, I make sure I
can do something. Then don't tell him, but it was gone.
But my favorite was taking out a wall in the
kitchen and building a cabinet.

Speaker 3 (10:08):
You took out the wall is only one.

Speaker 7 (10:11):
Of those brick pillars. You know that you have the
old seventies brick pillars. Other minute, Yeah, it didn't work.
The pillar took up a chunk of the room. Because thought,
that's going So I got out the sledgehammer, took the
wall down, got a friend to disconnect the tower from
the oven, and then built a cabinet for my pots

(10:32):
and pans, microwaves and cookery books.

Speaker 2 (10:35):
Did you check to see whether the pillar was holding
up anything essential before?

Speaker 3 (10:41):
Yes?

Speaker 5 (10:42):
I did.

Speaker 7 (10:43):
He was clearly just decoration.

Speaker 1 (10:47):
I brought down the pillars and the ceiling and everything,
and we won't be having a while anyway.

Speaker 7 (10:57):
The kicking the pants. I made one mistake on one
measurement and cut one piece of a little bit too short,
and I was, actually, no, I can turn this to
my advantage and changed its location and made a vent
at the back the microwave. Thought, so that that's actually
an mending thing. That'll be fine. And the first thing
you did when he walked in was not wow, It

(11:18):
was like, oh, okay, what did you do there? You
got that wrong? I was like, you spot that? He
the one mistake you walk, gone ceiling, repainted cupboard, everything
I didn't see that, you see the mistake. Well done, Well.

Speaker 3 (11:37):
Well done from me. Anything that involves a sledge hat, Yes.

Speaker 7 (11:43):
I love a gimpy. I love a gimpy.

Speaker 4 (11:45):
Well can.

Speaker 3 (11:51):
Ah. That was Carolyn Willison. Great story.
