Speaker 1 (00:00):
We're learning something new, both of us trying to dispel
the myth that some new tricks we go together. Lisa's
learning golf. I'm learning to speak Spanish. And we put
it out there a few weeks ago, didn't we we're
asking for other people to take up things later in life.
Speaker 2 (00:18):
Yes, And we spoke to someone the other day who'd
got their building license so they to build their own house.
That's going very well. And today we want to check
in from with Mark from Palmyra, who's learning the ukuleley.
Speaker 1 (00:32):
Hello, Mark, Morning, Mark.
Speaker 3 (00:34):
Hi, how are you?
Speaker 4 (00:35):
We're good?
Speaker 2 (00:36):
Good?
Speaker 4 (00:36):
Now is it going?
Speaker 3 (00:40):
It's going really well. I've only been learning since August.
I turned sixty in August. And I've got this friend
of the family. He's a really good friend of mine.
He's a multi instruments and he's been singing and he's
been teaching me to sing better and also try and
teach me on the guitar. But guitar is a bit
(01:01):
of an issue for me because I'm only a little
and I've got your hands, Rock.
Speaker 2 (01:05):
I said, I can play the piano for that reason.
I get you.
Speaker 3 (01:09):
It's a bit of a stretch for some of the cords.
Speaker 2 (01:12):
I don't know you.
Speaker 3 (01:14):
Can.
Speaker 1 (01:14):
I can I ask the question has your has your
tutor played this to you? Because this is some great
singing and ukulele together from the late Hawaiian singer Israel
kamakaviv Ole.
Speaker 2 (01:43):
Yeah, it just gives you chills that version, doesn't it.
Speaker 1 (01:51):
Because because Mark, I think anyone with a ukulele who
wants to sing, that's what you're shooting for.
Speaker 2 (01:55):
Yeah, well that tiny tim tiptoe through the tulips.
Speaker 1 (02:00):
I kind of think I'll go with Israels.
Speaker 2 (02:04):
So does it make it easier to learn if you
can already play another instrument? Because I know you're saying
the guitar is hard, but do you know other play
other instruments as well?
Speaker 3 (02:16):
It does actually make it a little bit easier. Even
though some of the chords are a little bit different.
It does make it easier because you've got a bit
of an idea of how the chords work. But they're
just easier and closer on the ukuleles. So I've been
now to pick up the ukulele quite a bit quicker.
Speaker 1 (02:34):
Right, And of course the motivation angel for the jeez,
that's hard. The great thing about the ukulele is it
so small. You can just take it with you to parties.
You know, once you're up and running and playing and
you can be the star of the show. Whip it
out because it's yeah, just whip out the ukulele. And
how men have you done that yet?
Speaker 3 (02:54):
Well, actually a couple of times because oh, my tutor heads,
you know, like find a uklady group and join in.
And so a couple of weeks ago I found this
local group called in my area called you Can Do It.
And every three weeks on a Wednesday night, they have
at Carnabie's restaurant a group singer and they have their
(03:15):
songs and the cords up on the screen. Everyone takes
the ukil adies and you sing along to that. Yes
and yesterday in these three mantle we went down with
our ukil adies and gave the good people of the
instrumentals Christmas spirit with some Christmas Carol.
Speaker 4 (03:34):
Is awesome.
Speaker 2 (03:35):
Now when you say it's called you Can Do It,
is it spelled you do it?
Speaker 3 (03:40):
It is UK in the pretty colol.
Speaker 1 (03:47):
You are well and truly grabbing this by the threat
and running with it, aren't you?
Speaker 3 (03:50):
Friend?
Speaker 2 (03:51):
We have to ask, can you give us a little
demo down the phone line.
Speaker 3 (03:57):
Yes, I thought the first couple of lines of stand
by me.
Speaker 2 (04:02):
Okay, ladies and gentlemen on the ukulele. Mark from Palmyra.
Speaker 4 (04:08):
Oh yes, Oh that the couple lines the phone line
(04:29):
doesn't do it justice. But we heard it there.
Speaker 2 (04:31):
I was right there on the bridge with river feed.
Speaker 4 (04:36):
Mark.
Speaker 2 (04:36):
That's fantastic.
Speaker 1 (04:37):
Well done. Mark.
Speaker 2 (04:38):
We'll keep in touch and and try to get along
to one of your you can do sessions of Carnegie.
Speaker 1 (04:47):
Thanks Mark, no worries, Thank you, Well done, Mark, keep practicing.
Speaker 3 (04:52):
Wow.
Speaker 1 (04:52):
Yeah, I think I think Mark might be a little
further advanced in his ukulele than you and your golf
and me in space. Yes, though, but we do.
Speaker 2 (05:01):
He's going very well.
