Speaker 1 (00:00):
Going right around the country with the biggest dozz he
hits at night for Oz Made it's Maddie Gold. I'm
also been doing this for a little while, probably getting
to one of my biggest fan girl moments right now,
because we have got some brand new music out from
Phil Jamison. And if you're kind of in the ear
where I grew up, Grinspoon was a massive influence for me. Well,
this is new stuff lights on from Phil Jameson myselfs
(00:21):
got the new album Somebody Else currently in tour, and
he's graciously taking some time out right now. Phil Jamison,
filling the void of the high school days that I
was missing for so so long. Thank you for spending
some time here and I was made my friend.
Speaker 2 (00:34):
Thank you, Maddie. Why has it taken six years for
me to talk to you.
Speaker 3 (00:38):
I have no idea.
Speaker 1 (00:40):
I am fathomed at the thought that has taken this
long for us to connect and to connect so beautifully
if I do say, because your energy is also quad infectious, Phil,
thank you.
Speaker 2 (00:52):
I'm doing my best out here. I'm really proud of
this record and it's a lot of fun to play
live around the country at the moment, So I'm getting
around doing some shows and selling some records and having
the time of my life's be on.
Speaker 3 (01:04):
And doing heaps of shows too. So what do we
kick off?
Speaker 2 (01:06):
God? I think I started on Wednesday, the second, like
Eltham Hotel, which is that side of Lismore, which is nice,
serendipitously because I wrote a lot of songs there in
my youth in the store. Then we went to gold
co Sunny Coast, Brisbane, Melbourne, and then we continue on
through Canberra and and Central Coast. So yeah, it's all
kind of busy and fun. And in between that, I'm
(01:26):
doing a few Grinner's gigs as well, so get to
wear a slightly different hat.
Speaker 1 (01:30):
Yeah, and putting on that different hat from Grinner's to
your solo stuff.
Speaker 3 (01:34):
What's it been like going out on your own?
Speaker 2 (01:36):
Well, I'm the boss, which is nice. So I decided work,
I decided track the thing. I decide what songs go
on there. I think over the last two years, due
to the tyranny of distance and the isolation, we had
had these songs floating around. They really didn't fit in
a Grinspoon frame. There's a boss and over there's like
a little soft songs. There's some riffs as well, so
I was like, look, I'm going to get this out
(01:56):
just so I can do a creative reset and you
look forward rather than backwards. Yeah, I don't get bossed
around by Patcho and crits, which is really nice as well.
Speaker 3 (02:04):
Do they come to your gigs and heck are you
from the side They.
Speaker 2 (02:07):
Are yet to come to any come on, and I'm
marking them each day like we're actually playing at Adelaide.
I'm playing solo on the twelfth of August Linear Factory
in Adelaide, and then on the thirteenth of August Green
and have a show. So if they don't come to
the Friday, I'll be like, dude, come on, Like it's
literally a one meter step from the hotel to come on.
(02:29):
What we do my Philly j solo garbage, So come
on down. Maybe even I'll get Pad up to do
some songs.
Speaker 1 (02:34):
Cool a little bit with that sort of different feel
that you were talking about, which, of course we are
loving with the brand new album as well.
Speaker 3 (02:41):
So somebody else does it have a theme that's going
through it.
Speaker 2 (02:44):
For you, Phil, I guess the theme for me is
I'm a fairly hard marker on songs. I had to
like the material. That was the first and foremost thing.
So there's themes of escapism, joy, love, disappointment, trouble obviously
the second single, which was about getting in trouble, which
is a lot of fun to write because I think
in the past I've written songs, they've made albums. I'm
(03:05):
like sure, so I like all these eight tracks on
this record awesome.
Speaker 1 (03:09):
So in saying that, then, Phil, what do we expect
when we come along to see it? Well, expect nothing
like this is what I go in to keep your
expectations low and you'll never be disappointed.
Speaker 2 (03:18):
Exactly, thank you, mate. So what you can expect is
me reasonably well dressed playing a black guitar. I'll have
a harmonica, and you'll hear songs from the new album,
all of them. Actually, I played all eight and maybe
some select covers. And I've got a great support band
called The Pictures doing it support. So don't come in
with massive expectations, and they'll always be met. They'll be met.
Speaker 1 (03:39):
It's like that line is in Dodge Bowl where he
says he doesn't have goals because anyone ever fail something
very inspiring like that. So I would be disappointed with myself,
Phil Jamison from Grinspoon, if I didn't ask doing the
high school rock scene basically being a Grinspoon cover band.
We played nine songs. We've talked about one of them,
(04:01):
DC X three. What do you think, Phil Jameson, that
the other tracks might have been.
Speaker 2 (04:08):
I'm going to roll with Champion more than you are
just a already one might have done some deep cut
two and two had lost control. I said that already,
no Reasonaby, How's that pretty?
Speaker 3 (04:22):
Pretty close? We did sign Post?
Speaker 2 (04:24):
Oh wow, that's a deep cut off.
Speaker 3 (04:26):
Yeah, we did Signpost.
Speaker 2 (04:28):
Signpost is a deep deep cut, I reckon. I can't
believe you got into Signposts. It's that tricky middle eighth
section where the drums come back on it. Awesome, man,
that's unreal matter that makes a couple.
Speaker 1 (04:41):
Excellent. No, it's been an absolute ripper chat and again,
I can't believe it's taken so long to connect. Phil Jameson,
we're loving not only being able to me personally to
reflect on on my kind of influences growing up with Grinspoon,
but also your brand new solo stuff too, Bitter Lights
on the new album with Somebody Else, and also the
tour dates that You're bless everyone and hitting some really
great places around a beautiful country too. We'll have to
(05:03):
check all those ones up Adultsmadradio dot Com today. You
but you're going right through until about Friday, the fourth
of November, I believe, so eat the time and heats
the spots for people to catch you.
Speaker 2 (05:11):
Thanks so much for your time tonight, Maddie, and I
really appreciate it.
Speaker 1 (05:14):
No worries, mate. I'm gonna go against all of my
inner high school and not play anything from Greenspoon, but
we are gonna because we love spinning lights on. Playing
it right here and I was made Phil Jamison, would
you like to introduce it for me?
Speaker 2 (05:26):
Yes, this is me Phil Jamison with my latest single
of my debut album, somebody Else. This is lights On.
Speaker 1 (05:41):
I love you on the street house and no one
can still remember.
Speaker 2 (05:57):
Things that.
Speaker 1 (05:59):
Every body knows. Wear a part together, like.
Speaker 2 (06:05):
Be in a lonely crowd and we can walk away.
Speaker 1 (06:10):
Just hold up to.
Speaker 3 (06:12):
The lever that body shuts it down.
Speaker 2 (06:19):
If I let you back him? Would you close go?
Speaker 1 (06:28):
This joke is wearing him and I have run out
words to do.
Speaker 2 (06:42):
You have to think of this old bunny on the phone.
Speaker 1 (06:51):
There's no shaking, the last last.
Speaker 2 (07:13):
There's no one I have.
Speaker 3 (07:14):
To blame since you stole all the money.
Speaker 1 (07:19):
It's catched away in the hide and I can hear
you breathe it still awake and hiding your brother.
Speaker 3 (07:29):
Don't get outside.
Speaker 1 (07:33):
If I let you back.
Speaker 2 (07:36):
In, would you close the door.
Speaker 1 (07:42):
This shoke his wearing film.
Speaker 3 (07:46):
And I have brought out words not
